Resumen
Vigna is a unique genus that consist of multiple crop species that are domesticated in parallel fashion between 7–10 thousand years ago. Here we studied the evolution of nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat receptor (NLR) genes across five crop species of genus Vigna. In total identified 286, 350, 234, 250, 108 and 161 NLR genes were from Phaseolous vulgaris, Vigna. unguiculata, Vigna mungo, Vigna radiata, Vigna angularis and Vigna umbellata respectively. Comprehensive phylogenetic and clusterization analysis reveals the presence of seven subgroups of Coiled coil like NLRs (CC-NLR) genes and four distinct lineages of Toll interleukin receptor like NLRs (TIR-NLR). Subgroup CCG10-NLR shows large scale diversification among Vigna species suggesting genus specific distinct duplication pattern in Vigna species. Mainly birth of new NLR gene families and higher rate of terminal duplication is the major determinants for expansion of NLRome in genus Vigna. Recent expansion of NLRome in V. anguiculata and V. radiata was also observed which might suggest that domestication have supported their duplication of lineage specific NLR genes. In short, large scale difference in the architecture of NLRome were observed in diploid plant species. Our findings allowed us to hypothesized that independent parallel domestication is the major drivers of highly divergent evolution of NLRome in genus Vigna.

Resumen
Abstract— A taxonomic treatment is herein provided for the six primarily Neotropical species of Vigna subg. Lasiospron. This subgenus is distinguished, in part, by its close relationship with Old World Vigna species, but rather than having an Old World Vigna floral asymmetry where distal floral parts can have a right-hand curvature (from a face-view perspective), distal parts of Vigna subg. Lasiospron flowers, like those of American Phaseolinae, curve to the left. Our proposed taxonomy reflects published phylogenetic analyses that resolve the Vigna subg. Lasiospron species in a subclade of the primarily Old World clade of species of Vigna sensu stricto. Vigna subg. Lasiospron is therefore distinctive in having a primarily neotropical distribution. Three of the six Vigna subg. Lasiospron species have an amphi-Atlantic distribution, which we suggest was achieved naturally by the ability of these species to disperse and colonize coastal habitats. Nomenclatural and taxonomic synonyms are reported, along with species descriptions and the biogeographical, genetic, and morphological evidence that argues for each of the six Vigna subg. Lasiospron species fitting a unified species concept.

Resumen
The analysis of nod genes and 16S rRNA gene regions, Nod factors, and nodulation abilities of Brady rhizobium strains isolated from tropical Thai Vigna species is reported. A total of 55 Bradyrhizobium strains isolated from two cultivated and six wild Vigna species growing in central and northern Thailand were evaluated. Thai Vigna spp. Bradyrhizobium strains showed higher levels of nod gene RFLP diversity compared with Thai soybean Brady rhizobium strains or temperate strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum and Bradyrhizobium elkanii. Analysis of the 16S rRNA gene region using selected strains also suggests a high genetic diversity of the Thai Vigna–Bradyrhizobium association. Based on thin-layer chromatography analysis, Nod factors produced by tropical Thai Vigna spp. Brady rhizobium strains are more diverse than temperate Japanese and US strains of B. japonicum and B. elkanii. Thai Vigna spp. Bradyrhizobium strains showed variation in nodulation ability and affinity, estimated by the number of normal nodules versus green nodules in an inoculation study. There are some Bradyrhizobium–host combinations that could not form any nodules, suggesting that some genetic differentiation has evolved in their host range. However, most of the Thai Vigna spp. Bradyrhizobium strains formed nodules on the cultigens soybean (Glycine max), mungbean (Vigna radiata), azuki bean (Vigna angularis), and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata). This is the first study on Bradyrhizobium strains associated with a range of cultivated and wild Vigna and reveals that these Bradyrhizobium strains are diverse and may provide novel sources of useful variation for the improvement of symbiotic systems.Key words: Bradyrhizobium, Vigna, common nod gene, 16S rRNA genes, RFLP, Thailand.

Resumen
Abstract. Studies focusing on virga are rare, even though it is a commonly occurring phenomenon. In this study, we investigated aerosol backscatter profiles from a ceilometer located on The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) campus from 2015–2021 to identify virga events. Ceilometer data effectively captured virga events from regular precipitation based on the backscattering intensities. To characterize the virga phenomena, a systematic method was developed using ceilometer profiles, soundings, surface rain gauges, and radar data from the nearest National Weather Service (NWS) site. A total of 50 virga events were identified during the study period. These events appeared only during a specific time of the year, revealing a seasonal occurrence pattern. We identified and classified these virga events and investigated their impact on the surface measurements recorded by the on-campus Continuous Ambient Air Monitoring Station (CAMS). Virga events were classified as columnar and non-columnar events based on their aerosol profiles. We observed that during some of the columnar virga events, surface particulate matter (PM) levels displayed a sudden upward trend indicating aerosol loading in the surface layer after precipitation evaporation. In total, 20 of the virga events showed a columnar structure out of the 50 identified in this study. More detailed analysis of selected events shows that virga affects regional air quality. A significant result of this study is that analysis of sudden changes in local air quality needs to consider the possible effects of virga on the surface layer.

Tang, Huacheng, Jian Yang y Dongmei Cao. "Effect of Fomesafen on the Nutritional Quality and Amino Acids of Vigna angularis Based on Metabonomics". Agronomy 13, n.º 2 (2 de febrero de 2023): 452. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/agronomy13020452.

Texto completo
Resumen
At present, fomesafen is widely used to control weeds in Vigna angularis fields. To explore the effect of fomesafen (FSA) on the nutritional value and amino acids of Vigna angularis, the protein, fat, water, ash, sand yield, and hundred-grain weight of Vigna angularis were measured using Vigna angularis sprayed with or without FSA. A non-targeted metabonomics and a high-throughput targeted amino acid analysis of Vigna angularis were performed using the metabonomics technology of liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The results showed that the protein (23.39 ± 0.16%) and fat (0.49 ± 0.05%) in sprayed Vigna angularis (Z-2-GS-2) were significantly different from the protein (19.88 ± 0.05%) and fat (0.71 ± 0.06%) in non-sprayed Vigna angularis (GS), indicating that a certain amount of FSA could promote the synthesis of protein in Vigna angularis and inhibit the formation of fat. A total of 63 metabolites with significant differences were screened from the non-targeted metabonomic analysis, including isoprene lipids, carboxylic acids, organic oxygen compounds, and carboxylic acid derivatives. Seventeen metabolic pathways were enriched. Five metabolic pathways with significant differences were screened according to p < 0.05, including alanine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid metabolism, tryptophan metabolism, and arginine biosynthesis, indicating that FSA had a significant effect on amino acid metabolism in Vigna angularis. Through targeted amino acid analysis, 21 different amino acids in Vigna angularis were accurately determined qualitatively and quantitatively. Among them, the contents of Asp and Glu increased under the influence of FSA, while the contents of Phe, His, and Ile decreased, which proved that FSA would cause the sweet taste of Vigna angularis to increase, reducing the flavor. Use of FSA will lead to the increase in protein content, ash content, and sand yield of Vigna angularis, while also leading to the decrease of fat content, water content, and hundred-grain weight. The use of FSA will also have a particular impact on the nutritional value, health care efficacy, and taste of Vigna angularis. The results of this study provide new ideas for follow-up research on the rational use of FSA in the field of Vigna angularis and the development of Vigna angularis health food.

"The Virga-Sniffer – a new tool to identify precipitation evaporation using ground-based remote-sensing observations". Atmospheric Measurement Techniques 16, n.º 6 (29 de marzo de 2023): 1683–704. http://dx.doi.org/10.5194/amt-16-1683-2023.

Resumen
Abstract. Continuous long-term ground-based remote-sensing observations combined with vertically pointing cloud radar and ceilometer measurements are well suited for identifying precipitation evaporation fall streaks (so-called virga). Here we introduce the functionality and workflow of a new open-source tool, the Virga-Sniffer, which was developed within the framework of RV Meteor observations during the ElUcidating the RolE of Cloud–Circulation Coupling in ClimAte (EUREC4A) field experiment in January–February 2020 in the tropical western Atlantic. The Virga-Sniffer Python package is highly modular and configurable and can be applied to multilayer cloud situations. In the simplest approach, it detects virga from time–height fields of cloud radar reflectivity and time series of ceilometer cloud base height. In addition, optional parameters like lifting condensation level, a surface rain flag, and time–height fields of cloud radar mean Doppler velocity can be added to refine virga event identifications. The netCDF-output files consist of Boolean flags of virga and cloud detection, as well as base and top heights and depth for the detected clouds and virga. The sensitivity of the Virga-Sniffer results to different settings is explored (in the Appendix). The performance of the Virga-Sniffer was assessed by comparing its results to the CloudNet target classification resulting from using the CloudNet processing chain. A total of 86 % of pixels identified as virga correspond to CloudNet target classifications of precipitation. The remaining 14 % of virga pixels correspond to CloudNet target classifications of aerosols and insects (about 10 %), cloud droplets (about 2 %), or clear sky (2 %). Some discrepancies of the virga identification and the CloudNet target classification can be attributed to temporal smoothing that was applied. Additionally, it was found that CloudNet mostly classified aerosols and insects at virga edges, which points to a misclassification caused by CloudNet internal thresholds. For the RV Meteor observations in the downstream winter trades during EUREC4A, about 42 % of all detected clouds with bases below the trade inversion were found to produce precipitation that fully evaporates before reaching the ground. A proportion of 56 % of the detected virga originated from trade wind cumuli. Virga with depths less than 0.2 km most frequently occurred from shallow clouds with depths less than 0.5 km, while virga depths larger than 1 km were mainly associated with clouds of larger depths, ranging between 0.5 and 1 km. The presented results substantiate the importance of complete low-level precipitation evaporation in the downstream winter trades. Possible applications of the Virga-Sniffer within the framework of EUREC4A include detailed studies of precipitation evaporation with a focus on cold pools or cloud organization or distinguishing moist processes based on water vapor isotopic observations. However, we envision extended use of the Virga-Sniffer for other cloud regimes or scientific foci as well.

Nozzolillo, Constance y John McNeill. "Anthocyanin pigmentation in seedlings of selected species of Phaseolus and Vigna (Fabaceae)". Canadian Journal of Botany 63, n.º 6 (1 de junio de 1985): 1066–71. http://dx.doi.org/10.1139/b85-146.

Texto completo
Resumen
Seedlings of 31 taxa of Phaseolus and Vigna were grown in light (cool-white fluorescent, 600 lx) at 20 °C under a 16-h photoperiod. Anthocyanin pigmentation was present in all 9 taxa (6 species) of Phaseolus and in 22 taxa (12 species) of Vigna. Pigmentation appeared in less than 1 week and was usually intense in Phaseolus seedlings. Most Vigna seedlings required a longer period to develop a paler color. Malvidin was the major aglycone in five of the species of Phaseolus examined, whereas delphinidin and cyanidin were major aglycones in three species of Vigna. Anthocyanins were located in the subepidermal layer of the stem and hypocotyl of all taxa except two, P. vulgaris cv. Royalty and P. coccineus, both of which had pigment in the epidermal layer instead. Three Vigna species, V. longifolia (subgenus Lasiopron) and V. adenantha and V. caracalla (subgenus Sigmoidotropis), also had pigment in cortical cells. Anthocyanoplasts were evident only in members of the subgenus Ceratotropis. Numerical analysis of the anthocyanin data placed Vigna longifolia in association with members of Vigna subgenus Vigna, but the two species of Vigna subgenus Sigmoidotropis associated closely with members of the genus Phaseolus. It is concluded that several aspects of seedling anthocyanin pigmentation, when present, can provide additional data useful to the taxonomy of the Phaseolus–Vigna complex. Characters of interest include speed of the photoresponse, tissue site of pigmentation, chemical nature of the pigments, and presence or absence of anthocyanoplasts.
