Texto completoMolntjänster Inom området videobearbetning är starkt beroende av hårdvarans förmåga att kontinuerligt bearbeta mycket stora mängder paket. Idag har det blivit vanligt inom professionell användning att välja bort tidigare vanliga FPGA-baserade lösningar, till förmån för mer flexibla mjukvarubaserade lösningar. Docker containers har setts som en lovande teknologi för att konstruera pipelines för strömmande video, då de erbjuder ett snabbt och enkelt sätt att paketera och distribuera mjukvara. Utvecklingen inom virtualisering av nätverksfunktioner (NFV) har visat att ramverk för snabb paketprocessning, såsom Intel DPDK, har potential att förbättra prestandan hos kedjor av nätverksfunktioner. Denna teknologi gör det möjligt för mjukvarubaserad videobehandling att hävda sig i jämförense med hårdvarubaserade varianter. Den är dock relativt ny och oprövad och det kvarstår många öppna frågor om användning, driftsättning och prestanda. Detta examensarbete visar att det är möjligt att bygga paketbearbetande pipelines med DPDK, som kör dussintals nätverksfunktioner samtidigt på en maskin. En implementation har konstruerats och utvärderats med fokus på latens och flöde, och beteendemönster för applikationer som kör samtidigt på samma CPU har modellerats.

Texto completoThe administration of medication and nutrients via parenteral is very used nowadays. One of the risks of this procedure is the presence of contaminants, which depending on their nature may cause severe damage to the patients due to the direct way of the administration (in the circulatory stream). In this work we investigated the possibility of the containers to be sources of metals for solutions of parenteral nutrition. The investigated containers are made of different kinds of glass and plastic polymers, namely polypropylene, PVC and EVA. The system container/solution (amino acids, salts, glucose and lipids) individually stored, was submitted to the sterilization process and after that stored for a time period of approximately 10 months, since the shelf-life period of these formulations are generally 2 years. After the sterilization and at regular time intervals, aliquots of each solution were collected and their contents on Al, Pb, Cd, Fe, Cr, Mn, Ba, and Zn were measured by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. The containers were also analyzed for the determination of the amount of each metal they contained. These metals are either constituents of the container material, as Al in glasses, or impurities in the case of plastic polymers. All containers presented the metals investigated. The solutions, depending on their composition (species dissolved) were able to extract the metals either from the glass or the polymers. The highest extraction rates occurred in solutions of the amino acids cysteine and glutamic acid, and in solutions of NaHCO3. The metals released in higher concentration were Ba, Pb and Zn form plastic containers and Al, Pb and Zn form glass containers. A different behavior was observed among the plastic polymers, and the different kinds of glass. While EVA was the most inert polymer, the clear glass ampoule released the highest amount of metals into the solutions. Fifty commercial samples were analyzed as well, and the investigated metals were found in all of them. The commercial formulations presented the same tendency of the individual sample used in the study, either in relation to the behavior of the substance in solution or the container material.
Atualmente a administração parenteral, tanto de medicamentos quanto nutrientes, é uma prática muito difundida. Um dos riscos desta prática é a presença de contaminantes que, dependendo da sua natureza, podem acarretar graves danos aos pacientes devido à forma direta (na corrente circulatória) da administração. Neste trabalho, investigou-se a possibilidade das embalagens serem fontes de contaminação por metais de soluções utilizadas na nutrição parenteral. As embalagens investigadas incluíram vários tipos de vidro e polímeros plásticos mais comumente utilizados (polipropileno, polivinil cloreto (PVC) e etil vinil acetato(EVA)). As embalagens, nas quais foram armazenados individualmente os constituintes das soluções parenterais (aminoácidos, sais, glicose, vitaminas e lipídeos), foram submetidas ao processo de esterilização e de armazenagem a longo prazo, visto que a validade deste tipo de formulação é geralmente de 2 anos. Após a esterilização e em intervalos de tempo regulares, alíquotas das soluções foram retiradas e os teores em Al, Pb, Cd, Fe, Cr, Mn, Ba e Zn foram medidos por espectrometria de absorção atômica forno de grafite (GF AAS) e espectrometria de massa com plasma indutivamente acoplado (ICP-MS). As embalagens utilizadas foram também analisadas para determinar quanto dos metais em estudo elas apresentavam, seja como constituinte, como é o caso do Al no vidro, ou como impureza, no caso de todos os metais nos polímeros plásticos. Todas as embalagens continham os metais em estudo em maior ou menor concentração. As soluções, dependendo dos seus constituintes foram capazes de extrair os metais, tanto do vidro quanto do plástico. As maiores taxas de extração ocorreram com as soluções dos aminoácidos cisteína e acido glutâmico. Os metais extraídos em maiores quantidades foram Ba, Pb e Zn das embalagens plásticas e Al, Pb e Zn das embalagens de vidro. Observou-se diferente comportamento entre os diferentes polímeros e tipos de vidro. O EVA mostrou-se o polímero mais inerte, enquanto que as ampolas transparentes foram as que mais metais liberaram para as soluções. Foram analisadas, também, 50 amostras comerciais, as quais se mostraram contaminadas pelos metais em estudo. Observou-se nas soluções comerciais a mesma tendência das soluções individuais do estudo, tanto com relação ao comportamento da embalagem, quanto ao conteúdo (ação do componente sobre a embalagem) e os metais extraídos.

Texto completoLot sizing and scheduling problem has been extensively studied by Operations Research scientists and there is a tendency of incorporating more production processes real aspects in these researches. However, it can be noticed that studies conducted in some industrial sectors neglect important production process technological constraints and it keeps the Operations Research works away from an effective application, as happens with the glass containers industry. In this context, a mixed integer programming model and a solution method were proposed for glass containers industry lot sizing and scheduling problem, the main difference between this work and the others in literature is the inclusion of process specific technological constraints. The proposed model, named CLSD-GCST, was widely validated by a set of tests performed with 40 instances from a large company real problem using the commercial package IBM ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio Version 12.5. The model validation also included a potential business earnings analysis based on SCOR framework. About the proposed solution method, it consists of a Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) metaheuristic and it proved to be promising for the studied problem solution, providing good quality results in low computational time. Moreover, VNS overcame the CPLEX Branch-and-Cut for large instances, in which the commercial package found difficulties. Lastly, the proposed VNS was validated by means of computational tests analysis and its main characteristics were systematically evaluated, generating an information set that may direct this method application and even its evolution in future researches.

Texto completoEm 2019, a Secretaria Geral do Ambiente, Operadora do Programa "Ambiente, Alterações Climáticas e Economia de Baixo Carbono" em Portugal, lançou o concurso "Sistema de reembolso de depósito para garrafas de bebidas e latas", financiando projetos nestas áreas. O objetivo deste trabalho é discutir se os Sistemas de Depósito e Reembolso (SDR) são os instrumentos mais custo-eficientes para fazer a transição de um sistema económico linear, para um sistema circular. Para alcançar este objetivo, esclareceram-se os conceitos de Economia Circular (EC) e de SDR para, depois, os aplicar na análise da circularidade dos projetos. Para o esclarecimento conceptual, fez-se uma revisão da literatura com dois objetivos: enquadrar historicamente o conceito de EC e definir os SDR enquanto instrumentos económicos de mercado simultaneamente custo-eficientes e respeitadores dos princípios da circularidade. Concluiu-se que a literatura aconselha a definição de EC proposta pela fundação Ellen MacArthur e que os SDR são instrumentos custo-eficientes para fechar o ciclo dos fluxos de materiais. Fez-se a análise qualitativa dos projetos de SDR propostos a concurso para avaliar o seu grau de circularidade. Concluiu-se que: aquilo que hoje se designa EC terá as suas raízes nos modelos de fluxos de materiais; que o conceito de EC ainda não está estabilizado; que os SDR são instrumentos de política ambiental mais custo-eficientes para fechar o ciclo de materiais; que, no curto prazo, os indicadores definidos no âmbito do concurso não serão todos cumpridos; e, por último, que nem todos os projetos vão ao encontro dos princípios da Economia Circular.

Texto completoApresentada no Colégio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra, ao abrigo do regime especial (Art.º 31.º, alínea 2-b, do Decreto-Lei n.º 230/2009, de 14 de Setembro), a presente tese reúne o meu corpo de trabalho dos últimos vinte anos, propondo a sua leitura a partir de dois eixos conceptuais: o ideário de contentor e a performance como espectro. A tese está dividida em quatro capítulos, cada um deles correspondendo a um medium: 1. Desenho, 2. Fotografia, 3. Vídeo, 4. Objectos e Instalação. Estes capítulos são precedidos por um Preâmbulo, simultaneamente enunciado das obras a apresentar e apresentação dos conceitos fundamentais que as informam: acção, aleatoriedade, apropriação, auto-reflexividade, delegação, duração, event score, fracasso, guião conceptual, linguagem, performance, repetição e tautologia. O objectivo é problematizar as obras — em cada medium apresentadas por ordem cronológica de modo a garantir uma neutralidade não-hierárquica — no quadro produtivo em que se inscreve cada uma delas, ao mesmo tempo revelando o(s) processo(s) criativo(s) que põem em contacto os diferentes media, nesse contacto residindo o seu fundo conceptual e operativo. Assente numa estrutura rizomática de referências autorais e de conceitos remissivos apresentados nas suas margens laterais, o documento exponencia as possibilidades de leitura das obras, quer individualmente, quer no âmbito do medium em que elas se inserem, quer ainda no contexto geral do corpo de trabalho. É no compromisso desses três níveis de aproximação que cabe ao leitor estabelecer os contágios que indicam pistas de leitura, sabendo que — e essa é a função maior do Posfácio — os eixos conceptuais que as orientam se prolongam nas obras que excedem o período temporal aqui analisado.
Presented to the Colégio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra under the special regime (Article 31, 2-b, of Decree-Law 230/2009 of September 14th), this thesis gathers my work from the last twenty years around a conceptual framework based on two core notions: o ideário do contentor e a performance como espectro. This thesis is divided into four chapters, each one corresponding to a medium: 1. Drawing, 2. Photography, 3. Video, 4. Objects and Installation. These chapters are preceded by a Preamble which simultaneously introduces the artworks and the key concepts to understand them: action, indeterminacy, appropriation, self-reflexivity, delegation, duration, event score, failure, conceptual script, language, performance, repetition and tautology. The aim is to confront the artworks — presented in chronological order in order to assure a non-hierarchical neutrality — within the creative frame that inscribes each one, and furthermore to reveal the creative process(es) linking the different media, there residing its operative and conceptual basis. Built on a rhizomatic structure of authors and concepts, displayed at the border of the pages, this document expands the possibilities of comprehension of the artworks not only individually, but in the context of their medium and in the general context of the work. Negotiating between these three levels of understanding, the reader must establish the links that function as reading cues, while being aware that the conceptual axis which guide them go beyond the time span of this study.
