Texto completoOur current research work aims to identify all the specificities surrounding and characterizing the Peruvian translation of the French Jesuit Pierre Le Moyne’s work: The Gallery of heroick women published in France in 1647 and released in the viceroyalty of Peru in 1702. It is through this rare piece that we wished to embody and problematize our questioning on the multiple relationships between the national identity which was in formation process, Peruvian female identity and franco-peruvian cultural and literary relations. The choice of the study of this book is not only the result of personal inclinations, but constitutes, in our opinion, an emblematic example of the religious, cultural and political use of a literary, artistic and moral document. The 1702 edition is a significant illustration of the dynamic links existing between a literary and an artistic work and its historical context, from the point of view of its inspirations, its roots and its resonances with a given era. In their living forms, these literary and historical links refer as much to the discourses on the social status of women and its mutations, as to the active role that some of the protagonists of the Peruvian publication had within this very period. Thus, beyond the resonance between the original version and the Peruvian version of the text, the main artisans of the Castilian translation of the book were mainly embodied by Pierre Le Moyne, author and poet who accounted for the book , as well as the creoles, don Fernando Bravo de Lagunas translator of the Peruvian version, author of a remarkable dedication; Fray Miguel Adame de Montemayor, engraver and painter who evolved between the seventeenth and eighteenth century and realized the engravings for the Peruvian edition of the text of 1702 and Joseph de Contreras y Alvarado, printer and publisher, which made possible the publication of this first French text translated and published in the viceroyalty of Peru

Texto completoIn this doctoral dissertation, we are studying a selection of both Mexican and French literary works related to the historic events of the Second French Intervention in Mexico (1862-1867) and of the Second Mexican Empire (1864-1867). This body of works has been published between the XIXth and the XXIth century and has been selected, both because their poetic and political thoughts are emblematic of this period and because they have contributed to the construction of a Mexican cultural and identity iconography. We have decided to select the fiction and theatrical genres, to carry out a comparative and diachronic analysis. The decision of which literary works and authors to include has been made based on how both the French Intervention and the way it has been depicted in literature, have been dealt with in particular in each literary work and each author we considered to studied. The studied novels belong to the sub-genre of serialized fiction in the XIXth century with, on the French side, Benito Vázquez (1869) by Lucien Biart and Doña Flor (1877) by Gustave Aimard and, on the Mexican side, Clemencia (1869) by Manuel Altamirano and El Cerro de las Campanas (1868) by Juan Mateos. As far as theatre plays are concerned, we have carried out a comparative study of both Corona de Sombra (1943) by Rodolfo Usigli and Charlotte et Maximilien (1945) by Maurice Rostand. We have completed our analysis with a complementary study of El Tuerto es Rey (1970) by Carlos Fuentes. Regarding more contemporaneous historic and literary creations, we chose to include Noticias del Imperio (1987) by Fernando del Paso and Yo, el francés by Jean Meyer (2002). This corpus allows to carry out a comparative, linguistic, semiotic and literary analysis of afore-mentioned works. Such analysis calls for a thorough reflection on the interpretation of conflict, an armed and political conflict which influenced both History and Mexican and French literary productions

Texto completoA partition of a positive integer n is a decreasing sequence of positive integers such that their sum is equal to n. The integers which appear in this sequence are called the parts of this partition. My thesis studies the partitions of integers and the identities between them. A partition identity is an equality between the number of partitions of an integer n satisfying a certain condition A and the number of partitions of n satisfying another condition B. They play an important role in many areas: number theory, combinatorics, Lie theory, particle physics and statistical mechanics. One of these identities is as follows: Theorem. (The first Rogers-Ramanujan identity) The number of partitions of a positive integer n with no equal or consecutive parts is equal to the number of partitions of n into parts 1 or 4(mod.5). In this work, we study partition identities using the relation between the combinatorics of partitions and the combinatorics of graded algebras associated to an important object of algebraic geometry: arc spaces. Given a field k of characteristic zero and polynomials f1,…,fm in k[x1,…, xn], the associated arc space is the space corresponds to the ideal I of S:=k[x1j,…, xnj|j>-1], generated by the coefficients of some developments associated to the above polynomials and the variables xij. For focussed arcs, which is when we take xi0 = 0 for i=1,…,n, the Hilbert-Poincaré series of the graded algebra S\I is closely related to partitions of integers satisfying conditions depending on I. In the case where f(x) = x^r in k[x], the ideal I of k[x1, x2,… ] is a differential ideal for the derivation D(xi) = xi+1, in the sens that DI is included in I. In fact it is generated by x1^r and all its iterated derivatives. We show that when r = 2 the computation of a Gröbner basis of I with respect to the weighted lexicographical monomial order is related with an identity involving the partitions that appear in the first Rogers-Ramanujan identity. We then prove that a Gröbner basis of this ideal is not differentially finite in contrary with the case of the weighted reverse lexicographical order. We give a prove from this point of view of Gordon’s identities which is a family of important partitions identities. Using differential ideals we state a conjecture which could add a new member to Gordon’s identities. we prove then this conjecture for a special case. At the end, we give a simple and direct proof of a theorem of Nguyen Duc Tam about the Gröbner basis of the differential ideal [x1y1]; we then obtain identities involving partitions with 2 colors

Texto completoThe presence of two or more languages in audiovisual texts symbolizes an intercultural encounter between social and cultural realities. Likewise, in audiovisual products, multilingualism has been considered a linguistic and social phenomenon that constitutes a central part in the narrative of the plot due to identity or distinctive reasons. In the context of the series, bilingualism constitutes a representative identity trait of the Mexican-American community settled in the United States. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the translation of English-Spanish bilingualism and its impact on the representation of Mexican-American identity in the French dubbing of the series Gentefied (2020). The research is a case study as it seeks to explain and analyze the linguistic phenomenon and identity representation portrayed in the series. For this purpose, we will resort to data collection techniques such as content analysis and contrastive textual analysis. The former will allow the identification of the units of analysis of the source text in Spanglish that show representative traits of the characters; and the second, the contrast between them and the units of analysis of the target text in Frañol.

Texto completoMy Ph.D thesis examines the development of the concept of form in the light of the Post-Impressionist aesthetics of Roger Fry and Clive Bell. While it is often assumed that Virginia Woolf works in their wake, their influence has not been examined in detail before. The dissertation draws attention to the polarity of the views on art which Roger Fry and Clive Bell as art critics pursued, and to the consequences these imply. Fry's and Bell's aesthetics are tested against Virginia Woolf's concern for art in general, and in particular against her statements on the artist in her novels and essays. After an introduction in which the general development of aesthetic criticism in the nineteenth century is traced, the critical ideas of Fry, his influence on Woolf, and the theories of Bell are explored in Chapters 2 to 4. Chapters 5 to 7 examine Woolf's use of their aesthetic ideas in the following novels: To the Lighthouse, The Waves, Between the Acts. Fryian concepts such as beauty, design, rhythm, texture, unity and vision are shown to play a crucial role in her fiction, which, if unacknowledged, limits our understanding of her artistic universe. These concepts represent the background on which all her experimental writing, her study of the re-presentation of reality through the medium of the novel, is based. Woolf's concern for form is thus shown to be a development from the rejection of the mimetic conventions towards abstraction. The extremity of this solution, however, proved its limitation. The predicament in which Bernard, the artist of The Waves, is entrapped directed Woolf away from Bell's decontextualized universe towards the equipoised vision of reality championed by Roger Fry in his work on Cézanne; this constituted the basis for her new concept of beauty, not as truth but as "pied beauty".
Neves, Marta. "Psychometric properties of the portuguese version of Ecological Identity Scale (EIS): a study with youth". Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/1822/76757.
Texto completoA defining feature of environmental psychology has been the attention to the individuals’ relationships with their environments (Swim et al., 2009). Many children feel powerless and hopeless about influencing environmental issues (Ojala, 2015), thus it is important to build their sense of self-efficacy (belief that they can make a difference) and collective efficacy. The present study aims to explore psychometric properties and construct validity of the Ecological Identity Scale (EIS) (Walton & Jones, 2017) in a Portuguese sample of 526 individuals aged between 16 and 25 years old. This instrument is a succinct assessment measure of to what extent self and group ecological identity influence the likelihood of an individual to take (or not take) efforts to minimize the impact, they and others have on the environment. The Portuguese version (EIE) showed adequate reliability and the Confirmatory Factorial Analysis suggested the removal of 4 items, resulting in a 14 items scale. The lack of evidence for full scalar invariance across gender and age groups indicates that female and males (and adolescents and young adults) are not responding similarly to the items of the scale. Suggestions are made regarding the importance of extending research and further validation of the scale to ensure its proper application and the need to correlate this construct with other variables.
