Resumen
Measurements were made of the ability of 20 subjects to acquire 3, 6 or 9 stationary visual targets and then replace them after they had been removed. The targets were viewed with various sized fields-of-view (FOVs) using a Visually Coupled Airborne Systems Simulator (VCASS), which was mounted on the head and which used head position information to provide space-stabilized computer-generated images. Targets were presented with a blank background or a terrain background. Subjects were instructed to use as much time as they required or to be as quick as possible searching for the targets. Mean times to search for the targets were faster with the larger FOVs and faster with fewer targets. Replacement accuracy was not sensitive to the FOV but decreased with increasing number of targets. Search times were slower, but replacement accuracy was greater with a terrain background than with a blank background. In the fast search conditions, the number of guessed target replacements decreased with decreasing numbers of targets and increasing FOV. It is concluded that target replacement performance was sensitive to manipulation of the independent variables and as such is a potentially useful metric of spatial awareness.

Resumen
Abstract OBJECTIVES We evaluated and compared midterm recurrence results of our patients with great saphenous vein insufficiency who were treated with a 1470-nm diode laser using 2 different types of fibre catheter kits. METHODS A total of 61 consecutive patients were treated between 2013 and 2014 with a bare fibre (BF) tip (BF group) and 60 consecutive patients were treated with a radial fibre (RF) tip (RF group) from 2014 to 2016. First-year venous clinical severity scores (VCSSs) were compared with VCSS before endovenous laser ablation and at the first-month follow-up. Patients were examined for recurrence and classified according to the system developed by Stonebridge. RESULTS There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in terms of VCSS. Examination with Doppler ultrasonography showed no recurrence in the RF group, whereas recurrences were detected in 6 patients in the BF group, which was statistically significant (P = 0.028). All of the recurrences were type 1b (incompetent tributaries) varicose vein recurrences. The VCSS of the patients with recurrence were the same as the scores of patients without recurrence (0.5 ± 0.55). CONCLUSIONS Varicose vein recurrence was more often seen in the BF group than in the RF group. Recanalization-induced and neovascularization-induced recurrences were not found in either group. Saphenofemoral side branch-induced recurrence was more significant in the group treated with the BF tip.

Resumen
Introduction: In 2010, the American Venous Forum developed a Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) scoring system to assess the severity of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI), where this system was said to be more comprehensive than the CEAP system. However, VCSS validation was still lacking. The purpose of this study was to examine VCSS for reflux and leg vein diameter based on ultrasonography. Method: This study was a cross-sectional diagnostic test on women workers with standing work positions of 114 people (228 limbs). VCSS assessment and ultrasound examinations were carried out on all subjects. The relationship between VCSS with reflux and leg vein diameter was analyzed using an odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval. This study was a cross-sectional diagnostic test on women workers with standing work positions of 114 people (228 limbs). VCSS assessment and ultrasound examinations were carried out on all subjects. The relationship between VCSS with reflux and leg vein diameter was analyzed using an odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval. Results: From 228 examined limbs, the VCSS score of 0-3 was 18.4%, and the score of ≥4 was 81.6%. Reflux was found in 21.9% of the limbs. There was a significant relationship between VCSS and reflux in leg veins. The diameter of the great saphenous vein was between 2.1-12.2 mm, the femoral vein was 7.1-17 mm, the popliteal vein as 3-11.4, and the small saphenous vein was 1.7-7mm. When VCSS was analyzed for association with venous diameter, a significant relationship was found. VCSS sensitivity compared with reflux based on USG was 78%, specificity was 98.31%, positive predictive value was 92.86%, and the negative predictive value was 93.86%. Conclusion: From the results of this study, it was concluded that the VCSS score could be used as a method for assessing chronic venous insufficiency. Although VCSS is was to assess the severity of the chronic venous disease, VCSS can also be used for screening because it shows a good relationship with the reflux and venous diameter of the limbs based on ultrasound. Resumen
Objective To evaluate the results of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the great saphenous vein (GSV) using one versus two 20 s energy cycle treatment in the proximal 7 cm segment of the GSV. Methods All patients who underwent RFA of the GSV from 1 May 2013 to 30 September 2013 in eight of our vein centers were included. Duplex ultrasound scans (DUSs) were performed prior to treatment on all patients and 2–3 days, and 1 month after procedure. Demographic data, GSV diameters, and other relevant data were recorded. Clinical, Etiologic, Anatomic, Pathologic (CEAP) classification and Venous Clinical Severity Scores (VCSSs) were determined prior to ablation and one month later. Patients who developed endovenous heat induced thrombosis (EHIT) were followed till resolution. Results A total of 205 patients had one cycle treatment (group A) and 204 had two cycle treatment (group B). The two groups were comparable in their demography, CEAP classification, and VCSS scores. The rate of failure of ablation and incidence of EHIT were also not significantly different. The incidence of complications was low, <5% in both groups and all were minor. Conclusion Two cycle treatment of the proximal GSV for vein ablation does not improve the success rate of vein closure in the short term, compared to one cycle treatment. It also does not increase the risks of DVT, EHIT, major bleeding, and other complications. However, we do not know at what diameter two cycles may be superior to one cycle.

Resumen
This paper examines the petroleum industry's willingness to participate in conservation agreements for the lesser prairie chicken, a candidate for listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Voluntary conservation agreements with assurances (VCAAs) can incentivize habitat conservation and sustain economic development. Using data on oil and natural gas wells in Kansas and Oklahoma, I develop a discrete choice model to examine company preferences for locating wells and participating in VCAAs for the lesser prairie chicken. Participation in VCAAs is low, but I find participating wells are concentrated in areas with the most crucial habitat.

Johnston, George P. "The relationship among organizational involvement, commitment, and success: a case study of Amway Corporation". Diss., Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/87669.

Resumen
Traditionally, organizational commitment has been proposed as an important factor leading to desired behavioral consequences (Angle and Perry, 1981). Organizationally-committed individuals remain in an organization, perform reliably, and are even willing to make contributions to an organization's operation which go beyond what is expected of them (Schein, l980; Steers, 1977). One company that seems to rely heavily on the organizational commitment or its participants is Amway Corporation. Amway Corporation is a multi-level direct sales company that specializes in personal and home care products. In just 25 years it has grown from a low-budget company serving a regional market into a multimillion dollar corporation with markets in over 45 countries and territories and approximately one million distributors. Although some of Amway's remarkable organizational success must be attributed to product quality and its dynamic and inclusive recruitment policy, it seems possible that much of Amway's success must be traced back to the organizational commitment of its distributors. Amway Corporation attempts to enhance distributor commitment to the organization by providing material and non-material incentives, thereby promoting what Weber ( t 978) referred to as instrumental and value-rational, as well as affective forms of social action. The present study focused on the following research questions: What is the relationship between organizational commitment and successful Amway distributor task performance? What effect does the nature of distributor's organizational involvement have on the relationship between organizational commitment and distributor success? What role docs emotional attachment to Amway play in promoting successful distributor task performance? These different types of social action suggest different types of organizational involvement that might be exhibited by individuals in a complex organization. Based largely on the theoretical work of Etzioni (1961, 1975), and Clark and Wilson (1975), organizational involvement is conceptualized in the present study as the importance or material, purposive, and solidary incentives for distributor's continuing participation in Amway, and may be distinguished into two types: calculative and moral. Based on data collected on 121 Amway distributors, using two separate samples, this study found that there is a positive relationship between organizational commitment and distributor success. It was also found that organizational involvement and commitment are highly related. The hypothesis proposing that combining calculative and moral involvement greatly enhances the relationship between organizational commitment and overall distributor success was not supported. Calculative involvement and organizational commitment were found to have an interactive effect on overall distributor success. It was found that various time-use factors, such as number of months respondents had been in Amway, number of hours spent weekly motivating downline distributors, and the number of hours spent weekly selling products were also related to overall distributor success. The total number of hours spent weekly on Amway-related activities, and the number of hours spent weekly showing the Amway Sales and Marketing Plan were not significantly related to overall distributor success.

As to increase the Through-Silicon-Via (TSV) density in the three-dimensional chip integration, the quality of signal transmission may be problem on the two signals interfering with each other. The major factors of TSV crosstalk are determined by the diameter of TSVs and their spacing between two TSVs. Besides, the thickness and the doping concentration of the silicon substrate also play a key role, where they determine the effectiveness of substrate-grounds. In this thesis, a Vertical-Cross-Chain Substrate Structure (VCCSS) is proposed to enhance the simulation accuracy for TSV coupling analysis. The VCCSS model is an extension of single cross cube, in which the substrate is segmented vertically into several layers. By the conjunction of the corresponding segmented T-model of TSV, they are combined to construct the electrical equivalence under coupling analysis. It is shown that VCCSS will gain the improved accuracy to 18.5%, especially for the cases of substrate grounding, which exhibit the depth effect of converging the emitted current from TSVs into top ground pad. From the viewpoint of crosstalk prevention, both the ways of substrate and TSV grounding are more effective than spacing.

Resumen
In collaborative software development, the utilization of Version Control Systems (VCSs) is a must. For this, a multitude of pessimistic as well as optimistic VCSs for model artifacts emerged. Pessimistic approaches follow the lock-edit-unlock paradigm whereas optimistic approaches allow parallel editing of one resource, which are therefore the preferred ones. To be flexible for the ever increasing variety of modeling environments and languages such tools should be independent of the modeling environment and applicable to various modeling languages. Those VCS characteristics may implicate a lack of information for the conflict detection method by virtue of firstly receiving solely the state of an artifact without concrete editing operations and secondly due to unavailable knowledge about the semantics of a modeling language. However, in optimistic VCSs concurrent changes can result in conflicts and inconsistencies. In environment and language independent VCSs inconsistencies would even arise more often due to information losses. Hence, accurate conflict detection methods are indispensable for the realization of such VCSs. To tackle this task, the “Semantically enhanced Model Version Control System” SMoVer is presented. With SMoVer it is possible to specify the semantics of a modeling language, needed for conflict detection in order to provide more accurate conflict reports than other current environment and language independent VCSs. In this work, it is exemplified how semantics of a specific modeling language can be specified in SMoVer, how those specifications can improve the accuracy of conflict reports and finally how those can be presented to modelers.

In this paper, we first follow Ateniese et al.'s work that provides upper bounds of the pixel expansion of visual cryptography schemes(VCSs) for more kinds of graph access structures, in which we require that a subset of parties can determine the secret if they contain an edge of the graph G. The constructive upper bounds are derived by the graph decomposition technique. Then we generalize Ateniese et al.'s method of comparing the optimal pixel expansion of VCSs with two different access structures.

Resumen
Recent advances in artificial intelligence have led changes to the operation, the capabilities, and the performance of a number of industries. Provision of mental health services is expected to experience a paradigm shift, with the introduction of artificial intelligence-based virtual conversational agents (VCAs). In this conceptual chapter, the authors introduce the term Personalised Anthropomorphic VCAs (PAVCAs). The chapter proposes the use of PAVCAs to support people suffering from Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD), following the loss of a beloved person, aiming to offer solace and companion. To drive meaningful change for the users and to deliver economic value and utility, the chapter argues for PAVCAs to be configured to characteristics of each user's beloved deceased one. Using two models, the authors suggest that the use of these platforms can comprise a reactive approach to the diagnosis of PGD; as well as a proactive approach, dealing with grief before PDG is manifested.

Resumen
Vapor Compression cycle Systems (VCSs) are being considered for thermal management aboard modern aircraft where dynamic changes in heat loads are very common. Predicting dynamic behavior of VCSs is critical to design, sizing, and control of aircraft thermal management systems. A novel Lagrangian method to model the dynamic behavior of VCSs has been developed. This approach divides each fluid flow into a large number of elements having fixed mass, but variable volume and position. At discrete time steps, heat transferred to or from each mass element is determined by component models. This paper gives simulation results showing system startup under PID feedback control. Then, from steady state, the system response to an increase in heat load, an increase in sink availability, a decrease in valve throttle and an increase in compressor speed are simulated and the results reported. Results indicate that the Lagrangian method can provide results for a wide range of cases and that VCC systems require extensive control to meet performance objectives.
