Resumen
PurposeOnline social networks (OSNs) provide users with mechanisms such as social circles and individual selection to define the audiences (i.e., privacy policy) of the shared information. This privacy decision-making process is a hard and tedious task for users because they have to assess the cost-benefit in a complex environment. Moreover, little is known about how users assess the cost-benefit of matching the elements of online communication and their interests. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop and test a research model to understand the impact that the types of receivers and the sensitivity of messages have on privacy decisions.Design/methodology/approachA study was conducted to understand how users evaluate the cost-benefit of the disclosure action in online social networks for the different types of receivers identified and the sensitivity of the message. Data from 400 respondents was collected and analyzed using partial least squares modeling.FindingsThe findings of this study demonstrated a trade-off variance between the perceived cost-benefit and the disclosure of sensitive information with different receiver types. Disclosing personal information with trusted receivers, influencer receivers and receivers from the circle of coworkers had a positive significant effect on social capital building. Conversely, disclosing personal information with receivers from the circle of family or unknown receivers had a significant negative effect on social capital building and even a significant positive effect on privacy concerns.Originality/valueRecent literature has documented the increasing interest of the research community in understanding users' concerns and interests in making the most suitable privacy decisions. However, most researchers have worked on understanding the disclosure action from a user-centered perspective and have not considered all of the elements of online communication. This study puts the focus on all of the elements of communication during disclosure actions, taking into account the properties of the message and receivers and the impact on users' cost benefit value.

Resumen
Jamming is becoming a serious threat to various users of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Therefore, live monitoring tests are required to estimate the sensitivity range of GNSS receivers under jamming. This study analyses the response of some mass-market and professional-grade receivers to intentional interferences based on different 3D jammer positions. First, the vertical jamming was investigated, followed by a horizontal experiment where the receivers were placed at three locations while the jammer was moving within a triangular area. The aim was to determine a fingerprint of the influence of the L1/E1 chirp jammer on receivers used in the research. The results show that low-cost receivers are much more susceptible to interference, while the latest generation of GNSS geodetic receivers are much more resilient. It is encouraging that positioning in the presence of jamming could be achieved on a larger scale, especially by using professional receivers. An attempt to position the jammer will be left for trials when a more frequency stable device is applied.

Resumen
AbstractWe study large deviation principles for a model of wireless networks consisting of Poisson point processes of transmitters and receivers. To each transmitter we associate a family of connectable receivers whose signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio is larger than a certain connectivity threshold. First, we show a large deviation principle for the empirical measure of connectable receivers associated with transmitters in large boxes. Second, making use of the observation that the receivers connectable to the origin form a Cox point process, we derive a large deviation principle for the rescaled process of these receivers as the connection threshold tends to 0. Finally, we show how these results can be used to develop importance sampling algorithms that substantially reduce the variance for the estimation of probabilities of certain rare events such as users being unable to connect.

Resumen
AbstractSince many years the coordinates of the position can be obtained with the use of satellite navigation and augmentation systems, SNS and SBAS, respectively. All these systems are called GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems). The main task of the user segment is to transform the products delivered by the GNSS infrastructure into services that users are mainly interested in. That's why GNSS receiver selection depends on user application. Nowadays several hundred different receivers provided by more than one hundred manufacturers are available on the world market. The review of the performance parameters of GNSS receivers accessible in 2014 and last three years is presented in this paper. Additionally the paper gives the reply to some important questions as: for how many applications the given model is destined, which is the percentage of the receivers designed for marine and navigation users, which equipment features of the receiver are the most important for given application, which satellite signals apart from GPS signals can be tracked in the receiver?

Resumen
We introduce a quantum key distribution protocol using mean multi-kings’ problem. Using this protocol, a sender can share a bit sequence as a secret key with receivers. We consider a relation between information gain by an eavesdropper and disturbance contained in legitimate users’ information. In BB84 protocol, such relation is known as the so-called information disturbance theorem. We focus on a setting that the sender and two receivers try to share bit sequences and the eavesdropper tries to extract information by interacting legitimate users’ systems and an ancilla system. We derive trade-off inequalities between distinguishability of quantum states corresponding to the bit sequence for the eavesdropper and error probability of the bit sequence shared with the legitimate users. Our inequalities show that eavesdropper’s extracting information regarding the secret keys inevitably induces disturbing the states and increasing the error probability.

Spread spectrum based on chaotic sequences is an alternative to spread spectrum based on pseudo-noise sequences. In this letter we present the application of two multi-user detection methods (parallel and successive interference cancellation schemes) to this type of code division multiple access. We demonstrate that, also for chaotic sequence-based communications, multi-user receivers significantly improve the BER with respect to single-user receivers, and that their use is practically essential with a high number of users.

Resumen
Abstract Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is a technique used for position computation with a high accuracy using only one GNSS receiver. It depends on highly accurate satellite position and clock data rather than broadcast ephemeries. PPP precision varies based on positioning technique (static or kinematic), observations type (single or dual frequency) and the duration of collected observations. PPP-(dual frequency receivers) offers comparable accuracy to differential GPS. PPP-single frequency receivers has many applications such as infrastructure, hydrography and precision agriculture. PPP using low cost GPS single-frequency receivers is an area of great interest for millions of users in developing countries such as Egypt. This research presents a study for the variability of single frequency static GPS-PPP precision based on different observation durations.

Resumen
Recently, there has been a good deal of interest in the use of chaotic signals for direct sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) communication systems. The capacity of DS-CDMA systems is interference-limited, and can therefore be increased by techniques that suppress interference. This letter is devoted to the evaluation of the impact of blind multiuser detection techniques on chaos based DS-CDMA systems. Blind receivers can suppress multiple access interference and do not require knowledge of the code sequences and propagation channels of the interference. We demonstrate that, for chaotic sequence-based communications, blind multiuser receivers significantly improve the BER with respect to single-user receivers, and that their use is practically essential with a high number of users.

Social-digital networks are linked to the user-receiver activity theorized by the Columbia school. The link between the media system and the social system that the Columbia school anticipated seems all the more relevant with the collect of information via social networks. Henceforth, the media must reckon with social networks and consequently with users-receivers. By sharing information, each user-receiver can become a short-term opinion leader. The one-off act of sharing materializes this new filter which symbolizes the passage to the second step flow of communication. Sharing is therefore the circumstantial reification of personal influence which transforms the user-receiver into an opinion leader. In this 2.0 user-receiver model of the new media digital-social networks ecosystem, 2.0 opinion leaders can be compared to opinion sharers. In order to understand the situations of opinion influence at work in circulation and reception activities, the information filter processes will be studied by taking up the structural elements of the model proposed by the Columbia school. We are interested in what "real people of everyday life" choose and do with media on social-digital networks, like the Columbia school which was interested in the people's choice and in particular in the part played by people in the flow of mass communications. The objective of this research is thus to transpose this Columbia model to the context of social-digital networks in order to update it and redefine, within it, the notion of opinion leader whose acceptance has been altered. Our contribution is therefore that of a social analysis of human communication of information via social-digital networks

Resumen
AbstractThe current stochastic model in GNSS processing is constructed based on the prior experience, for example the ratio of the weight of the pseudorange and phase observations is generally determined as 1:10000. These methods ignore the precision differences of the different GNSS receivers and observation space. In this paper, the standard deviation of differenced ionosphere-free pseudorange and phase observations is computed with dual-frequency observations and then the weight ratio of the pseudorange and phase observations is obtained using the computed standard deviation. This method is introduced in satellite clock estimating and the data is processed. The results show that the presented method is feasible, with which the accuracy of the estimated satellite clock results is improved. The estimated satellite clock results are further adopted in PPP and the positioning results of the 10 users validate that the estimated satellite clock, which uses the presented method, can accelerate the convergence of PPP compared with the traditional method.

Resumen
AbstractIn this chapter, we explore the challenges of achieving a level of awareness of disaster risk, by each person or organisation receiving a warning, which allows them to take actions to reduce potential impacts while being consistent with the warning producer’s capabilities and cost-effectiveness considerations. Firstly we show how people respond to warnings and how the nature and delivery of the warning affects their response. We look at the aims of the person providing the warning, the constraints within which they must act and the judgement process behind the issue of a warning. Then we address the delivery of the warning, noting that warning messages need to be tailored to different groups of receivers, and see how a partnership between warner and warned can produce a more effective result. We include illustrative examples of co-design of warning systems in Argentina and Nepal, experience in communicating uncertainty in Germany and the Weather-Ready Nation initiative in the USA. We conclude with a summary of aspects of the warning that need to be considered between warner and decision-maker when designing or upgrading a warning system.

Resumen
Multicast is an efficient paradigm to support group communications, as it reduces the traffic by simultaneously delivering a single stream of information to multiple receivers on a large scale. Along with widespread deployment of wireless networks and fast improving capabilities of mobile devices, it is reasonable to believe that the integration of wireless and multicast will result in enormous benefits. Before users can enjoy the flexibility and efficiency of wireless multicast, security must be achieved. The core issue of wireless multicast security is access control, which means that only authorized users can participate in the group communications.

Resumen
The twenty-first century problem is of “Othering.” In a world beset by challenges, global, national, and regional conflict wrapped within or organized around group-based difference. The concept of “Othering” is used for social media platforms as the cause of many, if not all of the stresses of globalization, and the “collision of cultures.” This article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of social media in the wake of political othering on the Zimbabwean political landscape. More so, political othering is viewed as exacerbated by the various manipulations of different social media platforms. The article uses critical discourse analysis to unravel the unequal power relations inherent in social media platforms as both users and receivers of the peddled messages. Much as public media platforms are known to propagate a certain kind of mediated reality aimed at agenda setting and ideological persuasion in the presumed receivers. Social media platforms are used to negatively propagate rivalry, especially among political opponents.

Resumen
The Willingness to Communicate (WTC) Scale (McCroskey & Richmond, 1985) measures a respondent’s tendency to approach or avoid initiating communication. The scale is based from Burgoon’s (1976) Unwillingness to Communicate Scale, except the construct is worded in positive terms and assumes the respondent is self aware of his/her own approach/avoidance tendencies. The WTC scale is a 20-item probability-estimate scale (McCroskey, 1992). Eight of the items are fillers and the remaining 12 are scored to yield a total score and three subscores based on types of receivers (strangers, acquaintances, friends) and four subscores based on communication context (public, meeting, group, dyad). Users indicate the percentage of times they would choose to communicate in each type of situation, from 0 (never) to 100 (always). A representative sample of receiver/context items is key to establishing a meaningful norm because people may be more willing to communicate with some kinds of receivers and within some kinds of contexts than others. Resumen
Secondary receivers in Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Cognitive Radio (CR) networks combat interference from primary transmitters while equipped with whitening filters. However, when the MIMO secondary users are employing Radio Frequency (RF) beam-forming networks at the transmitter/receiver front ends to improve the MIMO transmission performance, the whitening filters cannot perform interference cancellation. In this chapter, transmit/receive optimum RF beamforming is proposed for a MIMO spatial multiplexing system. The performance of the optimally designed RF beamforming technique is evaluated over a Rician channel via computer simulations. Simulation results are assessed for different RF beamforming structures and the number of primary transmitters causing interference on the secondary receiver.

Resumen
In this chapter, the authors discuss the design of precoders in cognitive multi-user multi-way relay systems. When multiple secondary users intend to communicate with each other using the spectrum licensed to the primary user, how to manage the interference between primary and secondary networks as well as among multiple secondary users becomes an important design issue. They discuss one possible solution of using a relay station as well as multiple antenna techniques. Precoding design in such a relay supported multiple antenna secondary network is presented based on the Mean Square Error (MSE) design criterion. The joint design of precoding matrices at all the secondary nodes is a non-convex problem. Therefore, an iterative algorithm is proposed to iteratively optimize the precoding matrices at secondary transmitters, the precoding matrix at the secondary relay, and decoding matrices at secondary receivers. Other non-iterative solutions are also presented to strike a balance between performance and complexity.

Resumen
The Global Positioning System (GPS), as the first fully operational global navigation satellite system, is one of the modern technologies which have been expanding in our everyday life. This system continuously provides accurate three-dimensional position (often indicated in terms of latitude, longitude and altitude) and time data to a user located on the surface of the Earth or in the air. Currently, there are millions of users of GPS receivers worldwide. Not only can these units be used for military, scientific, industrial, agricultural purposes or during outdoor free-time activities, but also in teaching certain subjects from upper primary school level to university level. Using GPS receivers and GPS-based activities gives teachers opportunities to transform their classrooms from teacher-centered environments to environments that focus on student engagement in the learning process. The main purpose of this paper is to outline the possibilities of using handheld GPS receivers in teaching mathematics at primary school level. We introduce and discuss the results of an activity conducted in primary schools in Slovakia and Hungary. The activity included a theoretical as well as a practical part, and the participants were 7th grade (12-13 year old) students. During this activity, the students have learned how to use the handheld GPS receiver, and then solved measuring tasks around the school. Data were gathered by means of observation, analysis of students' tracks, a survey and interviews with students. The results show highly motivated students, who enjoyed participating in the activity. Students indicated they learned how to determine their position, the distance between two locations and the area of polygonal plot of land using a handheld GPS receiver.

Resumen
A key advantage of a frequency-division-multiple-access (FDMA) optical star network is high-speed simultaneous distribution of information to many users. An attractive implementation [1,2] is to frequency-shift-key (FSK) modulate N laser transmitters (Tx) and use direct-detection receivers (Rx), each consisting of a fiber Fabry-Perot [3] demodulator/demultiplexer. One disadvantage of this simple scheme is the limitation placed on the number of network users due to the inherent (1/N) power splitting losses of the N×N star coupler. These splitting losses as well as substantial component insertion losses can be compensated for by including an Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) [4-6] in each receiver [1]. Such amplifiers have the advantages of being compatible with a fiber-based system, providing high gain and output saturation power, and being insensitive to polarization and crosstalk effects.

Resumen
Social media has become part of our daily lives. It brought significant developments in the way we communicate, but it also raised some concerns, including privacy and censorship. In this context, this work presents a social media platform -- EtherYou -- that makes use of cryptographic primitives and an Ethereum smart contract to overcome these issues. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the operating costs involved. The results showed considerable values for senders, zero for receivers, and zero maintenance costs, indicating its potential in scenarios with a reduced number of content producers and a large number of consumers. The proposal offers users privacy over their data, transparency on the system behaviour and censorship resistance.

Resumen
This paper presents a cloud service framework for design evaluation of personalized footwear in augmented reality (AR) via networks. The service allows users to ubiquitously perceive themselves trying on 3D shoe models in a video stream. They upload a clip of feet motion recorded by a commercial depth camera to the cloud. A new clip is generated to display the try-on process and made available to specified receivers via video streaming on a mobile device. The framework design emphasizes making most use of open-source software and off-the-shelf technologies commercially available. A prototyping cloud system implementing the framework demonstrates the practical value of virtual footwear try-on as AR as a Service (ARaaS). This research realizes the idea of human-centric design evaluation in modern e-commerce. The cloud framework may provide a feasible solution to improve the usability for real-time applications of augmented reality.

Resumen
Technological development has changed the way users relate to products, they are no longer passive receivers of functions to interact with increasingly complex systems. This research addresses the problem of consumer interaction with public electronic technology products. There are several studies dealing with the disciplines that study the interaction between the user and the electronic product (Preece, 2005; Johnson-Laird, 1983; Helander, 1997, Sutcliffe, 1995; Norman, 1990; Moraes, 2001), making it possible to obtain knowledge about human beings, technology and the way they operate. This research aims to identify the areas of interaction design that involve the human-machine system, in particular the disciplines that contribute to good usability. Six typologies are proposed that describe specific interface characteristics studied according to the model of complexity defined by Gomes Filho (2003). Exploratory research in Portugal identified twenty-six interactive systems. To characterize the public electronic systems, the study presents a structured analysis of the variables mentioned previously, in relation to both reliability and validity, as well as functionality. The results are compared with the literature and the implications discussed for the design of the User Interface System Model.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4995/IFDP.2016.3287
