Kim, Mingwan y Neunghoe Kim. "Mining Hidden and Fragmented API Usages in Android Applications". Applied Sciences 10, n.º 24 (17 de diciembre de 2020): 9048. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/app10249048.

Resumen
Application Programming Interface (API) usage mining is an approach used to extract the common API usage to help developers get used to the APIs. However, in Android applications, the usage can be hidden or fragmented due to class inheritance. Such hidden or fragmented usages could decrease the coverage and accuracy of the existing API mining approaches. Our method aims to resolve the problem of hidden and fragmented usages through API generalization. This generalized usage is expected to be applicable to every class that inherits a class in the usage. In the experiment, among 442,809 Android API usages, 104,839 usages either were hidden or fragmented. By revealing such usages, the accuracy of the code completion was improved by at most 6.66%. The usage generalization was efficient for extracting API usages in Android applications in which the APIs are used through class inheritance.

Resumen
We study usage automata, a formal model for specifying policies on the usage of resources. Usage automata extend finite state automata with some additional features, parameters and guards, that improve their expressivity. We show that usage automata are expressive enough to model policies of real-world applications. We discuss their expressive power, and we prove that the problem of telling whether a computation complies with a usage policy is decidable. The main contribution of this paper is a model checking technique for usage automata. The model is that of usages, i.e. basic processes that describe the possible patterns of resource access and creation. In spite of the model having infinite states, because of recursion and resource creation, we devise a polynomial-time model checking technique for deciding when a usage complies with a usage policy.

Resumen
The current study examines pre-modern and modern Japanese texts from the seventh ~ twentieth century, and documents the semantic and pragmatic change of ni-marked NPs, which include “dative subjects” and NPs which appear to refer to human referents. The data demonstrates that what are called “dative subjects” in modern Japanese are diachronically and synchronically related to the most prototypical meaning/usage of ni-marked NPs as a spatial framework. The original function underwent changes from more propositional to more subjective usages — from its most basic usage, indicating stative locations, to its metonymic usage, marking locations where individuals worthy of respect reside so as to avoid their explicit mention, and finally to its extended usage, indicating human referents. This extended usage further developed into a subjective framework for propositions in contemporary Japanese novels written in the first person perspective. This shift from propositional to expressive/subjective usages is not binary, but rather continual, and the transition from one usage to another involves each new usage coexisting with the prior ones.

Resumen
The family of Chlamydiaceae contains a group of obligate intracellular bacteria that can infect a wide range of hosts. The evolutionary trend of members in this family is a hot topic, which benefits our understanding of the cross-infection of these pathogens. In this study, 14 whole genomes of 12 Chlamydia species were used to investigate the nucleotide, codon, and amino acid usage bias by synonymous codon usage value and information entropy method. The results showed that all the studied Chlamydia spp. had A/T rich genes with over-represented A or T at the third positions and G or C under-represented at these positions, suggesting that nucleotide usages influenced synonymous codon usages. The overall codon usage trend from synonymous codon usage variations divides the Chlamydia spp. into four separate clusters, while amino acid usage divides the Chlamydia spp. into two clusters with some exceptions, which reflected the genetic diversity of the Chlamydiaceae family members. The overall codon usage pattern represented by the effective number of codons (ENC) was significantly positively correlated to gene GC3 content. A negative correlation exists between ENC and the codon adaptation index for some Chlamydia species. These results suggested that mutation pressure caused by nucleotide composition constraint played an important role in shaping synonymous codon usage patterns. Furthermore, codon usage of T3ss and Pmps gene families adapted to that of the corresponding genome. Taken together, analyses help our understanding of evolutionary interactions between nucleotide, synonymous codon, and amino acid usages in genes of Chlamydiaceae family members.

Resumen
As part of web services life-cycle, providers frequently face decision about changes without a clear understanding of the impact on their clients. The identification of clients’ consumption patterns constitutes invaluable information to support more effective decisions. In this paper, the authors present a framework that supports the discovery of service usage profiles, to bring awareness on the distinct groups of consumers, and their usage characterization in terms of detailed service functionality. The framework encompasses a process to cluster client applications and derive usage profiles. The paper also discusses how usage profiles can help to access the real impact on clients of incompatible changes performed over service descriptions, and presents a usage-oriented compatibility assessment algorithm. Experimental results are presented for both the profile discovery process and profile-based compatibility analysis.

Resumen
The goal of this article is to describe Usage-Based Instruction (UBI), an innovative approach to teaching interpersonal communication in foreign languages. The UBI was inspired by Usage-Based view of language shared by such disciplines as Cognitive Linguistics, Cognitive Psychology, Construction Grammar, Usage-Based Grammar, and Artificial Intelligence. This approach has been used for a number of years by the Foreign Language Program at a small private Mid-Western university in teaching students to orally communicate in foreign languages in beginning foreign language courses. Students taught by the UBI demonstrate better performance, higher fluency, better accuracy and greater language gain than students taught by a more conventional, textbook-approach. In addition to this, they are more engaged in the learning process and consequently are more motivated to continue foreign language study.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to advance extant theorizing around resource integration by conceptualizing and delineating the notion of a usage center. A usage center consists of a combination of interdependent actors that draw on resources across their individual usage processes to create value. Design/methodology/approach This paper provides a conceptual inquiry into the usage center. Findings This paper delineates the notion of a usage center by way of focal and peripheral resource integrators, as well as focal and peripheral resources that form part of interdependent resource usage processes. The conceptual analysis reveals the need for resources to be accessible and shareable to focal and peripheral actors, with rivalry and emergence central factors influencing the actor’s usage processes. Originality/value Responding to recent calls for research developing insights into multi-actor value cocreation, this paper is the first to comprehensively and coherently conceptualize the notion of a usage center. In doing so, the authors build an important foundation for future theorizing related to the potential emergence of usage centers as well as the cocreation of individual and collective value.

AbstractNon-central usages of datives are defined in terms of increasing deviation from the prototypical, central usage of the dative, i. e. its usage in ditransitive constructions with ‘give’ verbs, on several parameters. The introduction offers an exemplification of the clines of (non-)centrality of dative usages, and specifies the aim of the volume. It also provides an outlook on the individual perspective each contribution takes on this issue.

Resumen
The present research focuses on different usages of deixis by Donald Trump in his speech on 1 June 2020 at Rose Garden, White House. The aim of this research is to analyze the use of deixis in Donald Trump’s speech. The descriptive qualitative method was used in analyzing the data found in this research. The collected data were analysed by observing how the deixis was used in sentences. In analyzing the data, Levinson’s (1983) theory about different usages of deixis was applied. Based on Levinson's theory of deixis usages, deixis can be used through a gestural, symbolic, and non-deictic way. This research found three ways of deixis usages in Donald Trump’s speech, namely gestural, symbolic, and non-deictic use. Symbolic way of deixis usage was the most frequent occurrence, that is 82 times. This finding was followed by the non-deictic usage which occurred 6 times, and gestural usage that occurred 3 times. By investigating the usage of deixis, this study is expected to give an understanding that in delivering a speech, deixis can be used in different ways to support the content meant to be shared by the speaker as well as to make effective message delivery.

Resumen
The large number of ups in Shakespeare's plays has not only conventional usage but also metaphorical usage, especially orientation metaphors. From the aspect of syntactic structure, V+up phrasal verbs combined with verbs are usually metaphorical usages. The types of these verbs include noun-transformed verbs, transitive verbs, and special usages. Based on the metaphorical usage of up, this paper explores the underlying cognitive mechanism behind it, and finds that verbs affect the mapping direction of up, which makes it highlight different metaphorical meanings, and energy transfer between verb phrases. Studying the cognitive mechanism of V+up orientation metaphor helps to further understand the emotions and thoughts of the characters in Shakespeare's plays.

Resumen
Many scholars have looked into relevant problems concerning the usage of causatives in their studies of Classical Chinese grammar. They find that, unlike the derivational system found in most Indo-European languages, the system of word-derivation in Classical Chinese (causative usage included) reveals that certain grammatical and semantic contrasts are regularly associated with tonal contrasts. In spite of such findings, we still consider it rather difficult to separate those derivational causative verbs from the general causative usage to which the syntactic structure is ascribed, not to mention the even harder task of distinguishing the causative usage from the putative one given their similar surface structure.2 Thus, beside the review and summary of causative usages in previous works, this paper re-analyzes certain problematic cases of causatives using different linguistic factors (i.e., phonological, morphological, and syntactical) together with relevant context clues. Although we have yet to come up with a satisfactory explanation concerning the distinction between causative and putative usages, we maintain that the contrast between realis and irrealis can be employed as a means to clarify those subtle differences in the putative usage.

Resumen
A remark concerning the temporal adverb już and its French equivalentsGenerally speaking, this contrastive study of the Polish temporal adverb już and the French déjà is based around the idea that już and déjà have an invariant meaning but it is also true that they follow different idiosyncratic usages. This article has two parts. First, the authors show the usages of już which are equivalent to those of déjà. These usages appear when już and déjà are put in a specific verbal context. The authors describe the four cases in which już and déjà are equivalent: “precocity of event”, existential usage, iterative-continuative usage, experiential perfect usage. Secondly, the authors analyze four cases in which the Polish adverb już can’t be translated by the French déjà. These incompatibilities can be explained by either morphological idiosyncrasy or the conventionalization of deictic meaning of już, which is absent of déjà.
