This research investigates sheltered workshops and the way they contribute to the objective of inclusion of persons with disabilities onto the open labour market in France and in Sweden. Based on different research methods (interviews, observations, collection and analysis of official documentation), our work proposes a transversal analysis of the interdependence of the different levels of policies. By adopting a comparatist approach with Sweden, presented as a model in terms of inclusion, we shed light on the French case by contrast. In a context of increasing labour market demands, our research sheds light on the way specialized devices supporting the inclusion contribute to disabled people’s job placement onto the open labour and/or to an alternative professional activity. Analysing the concrete ways to implement the inclusive model of policies toward disabled persons furthest from the labour market, we nuance the opposition between the objective of inclusion onto the open labour market and specialized institutions. We show that these policy models are cumulative rather than substituting each other. In both France and Sweden, a large sheltered employment sector is maintained. In Sweden, the appropriation of the inclusion objective by all those involved in professional integration has led to a wide dissemination of supported employment methods so that even the beneficiaries of specific schemes work in an ordinary environment. In France, the inclusion objective has remained bounded to the disability sector. New dedicated devices were thus created, indirectly leading to a strengthening of the specializations of the different actors within the disability sector

The idea of a society for everyone is often questioned as soon as mentally disabled persons are implied. Our research seizes this matter and studies cooperative engineering in a medico social institution(ESAT: Etablissement Service d’Aide par le Travail: institution for help to disabled adults through work). Our theoretical frame is anchored in the Joint Action Theory in Didactics. Our methodology is qualitative, ethnographic and clinical. To make visible and understandable the progressive construction of thought collective, we draw on emblematic examples. We analyse them in an ascending and understanding movement. The studied device is relying on everyone's skills in two complementary and linked actions: a collective inquiry work and a didactical activity in the workshops. We understand knowledge as power of action.Throughout twelves meetings of the cooperative engineering, the collective (professionals and the researcher) elaborates work hypotheses, in response to questioning systems derived from work in the workshops. In the ESAT workshops, during the engineering activity, these hypotheses are tested by a specific small group, comprised of one workshop instructor, workers and the researcher. New problems then arise.Analysis of these actions tends to demonstrate that by working together, the collective establishes itself as a cooperative engineering, with its own thought style. In doing so, in the understanding/transforming movement, the perception and conceptualisation of everyone (workers, professionals, and researcher)find themselves transformed

Paid work offers much more to workers than a salary. It affords them a status and legitimacy. It is also linked to their participation to social life as well as to their physical and psychological wellbeing. However, access to work is one of the main obstacles faced by people living with disabilities. In the province of Quebec, there are different measures devised to attenuate this problem. In this master’s thesis, we analyze one of them: non-competitive work. Based upon the work of Mercure and Vultur (2010) and using the sociological concept of work ethos inherited from Max Weber, we strived to understand what motivates people with disabilities to take part in this particular type of work. The objectives of this research are to delimit: 1) the life trajectories of these workers and the impact on their work ethos, 2) what are regular work and non-competitive work for them, 3) the “centrality” and “finality” which is given to work by the participants as well as their views on managerial norms, 4) the similarities and differences of their work ethos when compared to the ones presented in different studies, and finally 5) whether the types of ethos developed by Mercure and Vultur apply to non-competitive workers. Semi-directed interviews were conducted with 13 noncompetitive workers from the Capitale-Nationale region. The results show particularities regarding the meaning given to work by the respondents. This meaning is coloured by their professional and personal histories. We also observe that even though it is possible to assign a type of ethos to each respondent, these workers all express characteristics typical of many types of ethos.

With the successful of the notion informal [unofficial] in the socio-economic analysis of developing countries since the beginning of the 1970's, the notion of informal sector is used to refer to a very heterogeneous group of economic players and micro-businesses (one person or family business) generally set aside of labour laws, who are not registered by the administrative services and hardly benefit from any form of social welfare, judicial or administrative protection on the professional level. Moreover, the informel [unofficial] sector is defined as opposed to the "formal" [official] sector. Also victims of economic insecurity, one might say that informal [unofficial] players are to a large extent victims of the lack of job security. However, in a national socio-economic context characterized by few welfare transfers, almost endemic unemployment and underemployment, a buying power still considered unsuited for the cost of living, etc. , it is difficult to imagine that workers of the modern sector (generally more protected than the those in the informal sector) are safe from a lack of job security. This is at the origine of the idea of there being several kinds of job insecurities in Sengal, among others "formal" and "informal". What singles out our approach of the lack of job security is that it seeks to superpose the objective dimensions of the issue (professional instability, professional dissatisfaction, etc. ) to the sunjective dimensions (perception, feeling of precariousness)

Public intervention in the intimacy of the family is characteristic of the relationships between the institutions and the families in the modern era, marked by the separation of private and public spaces around children when they are taken away from collective space. But those relationships are often studied from the standpoint of power relations rather than from what the different actors have in common. Looking at contracted relationships between parents and child protection services, the present work analyses the changing in parent-institutions relationships in the light of the status of childhood and its changes in time. Through a socio-historical study based on child protection service files since the 1960s and, for the present time, on interviews with parents, we can trace the changes in a social work negotiated with the families. This research shows that children are more and more active in their own protection depending on their age and discernment. This changing could have a reverse effect leading children to be as active in the dangers they are exposed to as in the protection they are entitled to. The present thesis shows that if modern childhood was shaped by specific time and space with an education apart form adults, present childhood, far from being united, is given a totally new status questioning education in the family as well as in the institutions. New socializing ways are emerging adjusting a new mixing of ages without knowing if concrete experience and the specificity of children are really taken in consideration. Public and private interactions are being reshaped through the new status of children: the civil society could play a new role

The study carried out a comparative analysis of territorial management policies implemented in Brazil (State of Amazonas) and France (Rhône-Alpes Region) through the creation and management of protected areas. The objective of the research was to identify and to understand the effects of the territorial management policies on the forms of work and production systems of populations living in legally protected areas in Brazil and in France
