The railway industry in Ethiopia has been an important way of communication and transportation for a long time. It is a developing sector with many national plans for future investments. However, the current major corridors of Ethio­-Djibouti and Awash­-Weldiya have interoperability issues due to two different signalling systems being used. Thus, this study was undertaken with the objectives of assessing technical interoperability of the Chinese signalling system (CTCS) and the European signalling system (ETCS), identifying a possible technical solution regarding the interoperability issues, and assessing the economic benefits of a harmonized system. Compatibility of the two signalling systems was analyzed particularly with respect tothe technical configurations by thoroughly investigating each system’s features and making interviews and having discussions with professionals who worked with the two systems. In addition, a life cycle cost analysis of the Ethio­Djibouti signalling system was done with data obtained from Ethiopian Railway Corporation and compared with average life cycle costs of ETCS level 1. After analyzing each system, two possible technical solutions were found to achieve interoperability between the two systems used in Ethiopia currently. The first technical solution is upgrading Ethio­Djiboutirailway line from the current CTCS level 0 to CTCS level 2 to be compatible with the new Awash­Weldiya line which will use ETCS level 1. The second technical solution to make the two systems interoperable is to install ERTMS as an overlay on the existing CTCS level 0 as ERTMS is designed as an overlay system that could be installed on top of an existing national infrastructure and vehicles. However, these technical solutions have to be tested in laboratory and onsite with respect to their practical and economical feasibility.
Järnvägsindustrin i Etiopien har länge varit viktig för kommunikation och transport. Det är en sektor under utveckling med många nationella planer för framtida investeringar. De nuvarande korridorerna i Ethio­Djibouti och Awash­Weldiya har emellertid interoperabilitetsproblem på grund av två olika signalsystem. Detta examensarbete har analyserat kompatibiliteten för de två signalsystemen särskilt med avseende på de tekniska konfigurationerna genom att noggrant undersöka varje systems funktioner och genom intervjuer och diskussioner med yrkesverksamma somhar arbetat med de två systemen. Dessutom genomfördes en livscykelkostnadsanalys av Ethio­Djibouti signalssystemet med den data som erhölls från Ethiopian Railway Corporation. Efter analys av varje system hittades två möjliga tekniska lösningar för att uppnå interoperabilitet mellan de två systemen som används i Etiopien för närvarande. Den första tekniska lösningen är att uppgradera Ethio­Djiboutis järnvägslinje från nuvarande CTCS nivå 0 till CTCS nivå 2 för att vara kompatibel med den nya Awash­Weldiya­linjen som kommer att använda ETCS nivå 1. Den andra tekniska lösningen för att göra de två systemen interoperabla är att installera ERTMS som ett överlägg på det befintliga CTCS­0 signalsystemet, eftersom ERTMS är utformat som ett överläggssystem som kan installeras ovanpå en befintlig nationell infrastruktur. Dessa tekniska lösningar måste dock testas i laboratorium och i fält med avseende på deras praktiska och ekonomiska genomförbarhet.

In an era of acute concern about airline safety, bird strikes are still one of the major hazards to aviation worldwide. The severity of the problem is such that it is mandatory in all developed countries to include bird management as part of airport safety management programs. In Australia, there are approximately 500 bird aircraft strikes per year (Bailey 2000). Brisbane airport has a relatively high occurrence of strikes, with an average of 77 recorded every year (2002-2004). Given the severity of the problem, a variety of techniques have been employed by airports to reduce bird strikes. Scare devices, repellents, continuous patrols for bird hazing, use of raptors to clear airspace of birds and depredation are used by many airports. Even given the diversity of control methods available, it is accepted that habitat management is the most effective long term way to control birds in and around the airport space. Experimental studies have shown that habitat manipulation and active scaring measures (shooting, scaring etc), can reduce bird numbers to an acceptable level. The current study investigated bird populations in six major vegetation habitat types identified within the operational and surrounding areas of Brisbane airport. In order to determine areas where greater bird control and management should be focused, bird abundance, distribution, and activity were recorded and habitats that pose the greatest bird strike risk to aircraft were identified. Secondly, species with high hazard potential were identified and ranked according to their hazard potential to aircraft. This study also investigated the effectiveness of different vegetation management options to reduce bird species abundance within operational areas of Brisbane airport. Four different management options were compared. Each management option was assessed for grass structural complexity and potential food resources available to hazardous bird species. Analysis of recorded data showed that of the habitats compared within the Brisbane airport boundaries, grasslands surrounding runways, taxiways and aprons possess the greatest richness and abundance of bird species that pose the greatest potential hazard to aircraft. Ibis and the Australian kestrel were identified as the bird species that pose the greatest risk to aircraft at Brisbane airport, and both were found in greatest numbers within the managed grasslands surrounding operational areas at the airport. An improved reporting process that allows correct identification of all individual bird species involved in bird strikes will not only increase the accuracy of risk assessments, but will also allow implementation of more effective control strategies at Brisbane airport. Compared with current grassland management practice, a vegetation management option of maintaining grass height at 30-50cm reduced total bird utilisation by 89% while utilisation of grassland by potentially hazardous birds was also reduced by 85%. Maintaining grass height within the 30-50cm range also resulted in a 45% reduction in the number of manipulations required per year (11 to 6), when compared with current management practices, and a 64% reduction in annual maintenance cost per hectare. When extrapolated to the entire maintained grass area at Brisbane airport, this resulted in a saving of over $60 000 annually. Optimisation of potential hazard reduction will rely on future studies that investigate the effect of particular vegetation species that could replace the existing mix of grasses used at Brisbane airport and an understanding of the relative importance of vegetation structure and food supply in determining utilisation by potentially hazardous bird species.

La investigación está orientada al planteamiento de una propuesta de gestión corporativa para empresas familiares del sector transporte, puesto que al analizar este sector se encontró la necesidad de las empresas por plantear estrategias que las ayude a sostenerse en el tiempo, debido a que sus operaciones no las realizan de manera eficiente y por ello no les permite crecer en el mercado. A lo largo de esta investigación se tomó como referencia a diversos autores en temas administrativos que permitieron desarrollar el marco teórico, el cual servirá de base para plantear la propuesta de modelo de gestión corporativa para una empresa familiar con giro de negocio el transporte público en Lima, además como parte del análisis del sector se consultó estudios y datos informativos por parte del ministerio de transportes y comunicaciones, entidad reguladora del sector, para tener un panorama exacto del rubro, además de observar la situación del transporte público en la ciudad y cómo operan en la actualidad. En cuanto a la empresa, el grupo de investigación tuvo contacto con el gerente general de la empresa San Antonio S.A., la cual cumple con las características fundamentales para el desarrollo del trabajo. Finalmente, el proyecto llega a la conclusión que la empresa necesita realizar una correcta gestión corporativa, por ello podría tomar en cuenta la propuesta planteada con la finalidad de poder sostenerse en el tiempo y diferenciarse de la competencia.
The research is oriented to the approach of a company of corporate management for familiar companies of the sector of transport, since to analyze this sector was found the necessity of the companies for the posing strategies that help them to be sustained in the time, because their operations do not perform efficiently and therefore do not allow them to grow in the market. Throughout this research was taken as reference to several authors in administrative subjects that allow to develop the theoretical framework, which serves as a basis to propose the proposal of corporate management model for a family business in business of public transportation in Lima. In addition, as part of the analysis of the sector, studies and informative data were consulted by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the sector regulator, to have an accurate view of the area, as well as to observe the situation of public transport in the city and how they operate now. As for the company, the research group had contact with the general manager of San Antonio Company., which meets the fundamental characteristics for the development of the work. Finally, the project concludes that the company needs to carry out a proper corporate management, so it could take into account the proposed proposal with the aim of being able to be sustained over time and differentiate itself from the competition.

As the European Commission muscled in the national configuration and domestic actors engaged with the EU institutions, the purpose of this dissertation is to explore the impact of Europeanisation on the state corporatist arrangement encompassing the Greek state and the shipowners. The central argument is that although there is evidence of the reshaping of the relations between the state and Greek shipowners, the direction of change varies across industry segments and is contingent on four conditions. Firstly, it is contingent on the nature of the Greek state and its ability to exercise 'integrated leadership'. Secondly, the domestic actors recognise and act upon the incongruence between EU initiatives and existing domestic or international policies. Thirdly, the shipowners possess the capacity to exit the domestic configuration through capital mobility. Fourthly, alongside the shipowners, the presence of influential formal or factual veto points in the domestic institutional arrangement. The argument made is sustained through the analysis of the impact of Europeanisation on the relations between the Greek state and shipowners in two case studies. The first case study is devoted to ocean-going shipping and the growing EU competence in maritime safety regulation, concentrating on the accelerated phasing- out of single-hull tankers and the constitution of criminal sanctions for ship-source pollution. The Greek ocean-going shipowners in consultation with the incumbent Greek governments mobilized at every possible level to halt or amend the EU initiatives. As a result, there is evidence of the reinforcement of state corporatism which is contingent on the unitary nature of the Greek state, the absence of integrated leadership, the incompatibility between EU and international policies, the capital mobility and ensuing structural power of ocean-going shipowners and the weakness of the other formal or factual veto points in the domestic political process. The second case study concentrates on the coastal shipping sector and EU measures to abolish the cabotage trades across the member states. The coastal shipowners, the incumbent Greek governments and the island communities engaged politically with the EU institutions in advancing their interests. In this instance, there is evidence of the loosening of the state corporatist arrangement between the Greek state and the coastal shipowners. In spite of the unitary nature of the state, the lack of 'integrated leadership' and the incongmence between the EU and domestic policies, the coastal shipowners were more embedded at the national level and contended with an influential factual veto point in the form of the island communities.

A contínua ampliação da infraestrutura viária já se provou ineficaz em resolver os problemas de congestionamento nos grandes centros urbanos e uma solução não sustentável tendo em vista os altos investimentos envolvidos. Em contraposição ao tradicional aumento da capacidade viária, surge a Gestão da Demanda de Viagens (GDV). Uma das medidas englobadas pela GDV é a mobilidade corporativa que visa a promover o uso de opções de transporte mais sustentáveis e eficientes nos deslocamentos casa-trabalho das pessoas. Aproximadamente 50% dos deslocamentos diários nas cidades brasileiras ocorrem por motivo de trabalho. Por isso organizações públicas e privadas desempenham um papel fundamental em questões atreladas ao transporte. Embora não controlem a forma como seus funcionários vão ao trabalho, as organizações, por muitas vezes, podem estimular a mudança de hábitos de deslocamento ao prover informações e incentivos para isso. Este trabalho tem por objetivo verificar a aplicabilidade da adoção de estratégias de mobilidade corporativa em organizações situadas no Brasil. Em um primeiro momento, apresenta-se mais profundamente o conceito, os benefícios e as medidas de mobilidade corporativa que podem ser implementadas. A seguir, são comparados e analisados diferentes métodos existentes para a elaboração de planos de mobilidade corporativa. Propõe-se um novo método adaptado à realidade local composto por sete passos que totalizam 26 atividades que devem ser cumpridas para a construção de um plano bem-sucedido. Realiza-se uma pesquisa-ação em um complexo administrativo que reúne 17 mil funcionários e está localizado a 20 km do centro da cidade. Investiga-se o padrão de deslocamento casa-trabalho dos funcionários da organização e são analisadas que medidas de mobilidade corporativa poderiam ser adotadas para estimular o transporte sustentável entre os funcionários deste local.
The continuous expansion of road infrastructure has proven to be ineffective in solving the problem of congestion in large urban areas. It is also an unsustainable solution due to the high investments involved. Instead of increasing road capacity, Travel Demand Management (TDM) emerges as an alternative to deal with the problem. One of TDM’s measures is corporate mobility, which aims to promote more sustainable and efficient transport options for commuting to work. Approximately 50% of daily trips in Brazilian cities are work related. Therefore public and private organizations play a key role in issues related to transportation. Although they do not control how employees commute to work, organizations have the ability to stimulate travel behavior change by providing information and incentives. This study aims to verify the applicability of the adoption of corporate mobility strategies in organizations located in Brazil. At first, a more in depth concept is explained in addition to the benefits and corporate mobility measures that can be implemented. Then, we compare and analyze different existing methods for the construction of corporate mobility plans. We propose a new method based on the local context. The method is composed by seven steps totalizing 26 activities which must be followed for developing of a successful plan. Finally, we describe the application of the method that was carried out in an Administrative Center which gathers 17 thousand employees and is located 20 km away from the city center. We investigate employees’ commute patterns and analyze which corporate mobility measures could be implemented to promote a more sustainable commute pattern to work.

What makes globalization more challenging is the fact that, even when connected, the differences still exist between people, which seems not to be left alternative but to investigate their national cutltures to draw its essence and make this a tool for international operations. In this globalizations context, there is the air transport sector, which has received notable attention due to its increasing contribution to economic and social development of a country. Concomitant with the concern about global warming, the aviations industry is under the target of public pressure due to its staus as a major consumer of fossil fuels and their harmful consequences to the environment. Few researchs, however, are devoted to analyze how the airlines are positioned facing the issues of social responsibility, as well as the behavior of their consumers. Given this context, this study seeks to examine if there are differences in image perception, attitude and purchase intent of Brazilians and Spanish airlines consumers. Thus, based on the Vila and Gimeno-Rodriguez (2010) model, this study sought to adapt it to the airline industry and validate it. It also sought to identify the relationships of Corporate Social Responsibility (antecedent construct) with the images perception, attitude and purchase intention (consequential constructs) from Spanish and Brazilians air transport consumers. In addition, we sought to investigate whether the culture/nationality influences this relationship. Thus, it was conducted a survey research with 267 Brazilians and Spanish consumers through a questionnaire composed by four scales to measure: CRS of air transport companies, airlines image perceived by consumers, consumer s attitudes and their intention to use the air transport services. To validate Vila e Gimeno- Rodriguez model to the airline industry, it was used the Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The model showed satisfactory rates of adjustment, allowing its reapplication. To assess the relationships between the antecedent and the consequential constructs, this study was held on Structural Equation Modeling, through which were confirmed four research hypotheses: the CSR is an antecedent construct to the image perception, and image is an antecedent construct of attitude and purchase intention. Attiude shown preceding the purchase intention. To check the influence of nationality on these relationships, it was used the Invariance Test. Finally, it was found that nationality influences the relationships between: CSR practices by airlines and the perceived image by consumers; the image perceived by consumers and their approach to buy/use the airlines services; the image perceived by consumers their intention to buy/use the airline services and, the attitudes and their intentions to purchase/use the airlines services.
O que torna a globalização mais desafiadora é o fato de mesmo estando conectados, as diferenças entre os povos seguem existindo, o que parece não restar alternativa que não a de investigar as culturas nacionais para delas extrair sua essência e fazer desta uma ferramenta para as operações internacionais. Neste contexto de globalização, destaca-se o setor de transportes aéreos, o qual vem recebendo notável atenção devido a sua crescente contribuição para o desenvolvimento econômico e social de um país. Concomitante à preocupação com o aquecimento global, a indústria de aviação está sob alvo de pressão pública decorrente de seu status de grande consumidor de combustíveis fósseis e seus reflexos danosos ao meio ambiente. Poucas pesquisas, no entanto, se dedicam a analisar como as companhias aéreas se posicionam frente às questões de responsabilidade social, bem como, ao comportamento de seus consumidores. Diante deste cenário, o presente estudo procura analisar se há diferenças na percepção da imagem, atitude e intenção de compra de consumidores brasileiros e espanhóis frente a ações de responsabilidade social de companhias aéreas. Para tanto, com base no modelo de Vila e Gimeno-Rodriguez (2010), este trabalho procurou adaptá-lo para o setor de transporte aéreo e validá-lo. Buscou-se também, identificar as relações da Responsabilidade Social Corporativa (constructo antecedente) com a percepção da imagem, atitude e intenção de compra (constructos consequentes) de consumidores espanhóis e brasileiros dos serviços de transporte aéreo. Além disso, procurou-se verificar se a cultura/nacionalidade influencia nesta relação. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa do tipo survey com 267 consumidores brasileiros e espanhóis através de um questionário composto por quatro escalas que mediram: a RSC das companhias de transporte aéreo; a imagem das companhias aéreas percebida pelos consumidores; a atitude dos consumidores frente às companhias e; a intenção de uso do transporte aéreo. Para validar o modelo de Vila e Gimeno-Rodriguez (2010), para o setor de transporte aéreo utilizaram-se as técnicas de Análise Fatorial Exploratória e Confirmatória. O modelo apresentou índices satisfatórios de ajuste, possibilitando a reaplicação do mesmo. Para verificar as relações entre o constructo antecedente e os constructos consequentes, realizou-se a Modelagem de Equações Estruturais, através da qual confirmaram-se quatro hipóteses de pesquisa: a RSC é antecedente apenas do constructo imagem e este é antecedente dos constructos atitude e intenção de compra. Já a atitude se mostra antecedente à intenção de compra dos serviços de transporte aéreo. Para verificar a influência da nacionalidade nestas relações, utilizou-se o Teste de Invariância. Finalmente, constatou-se que a nacionalidade influencia as relações entre: a RSC praticada pelas empresas de transporte aéreo e a imagem percebida pelos consumidores; a imagem percebida pelos consumidores e sua atitude de compra/uso; a imagem percebida pelos consumidores suas intenções de compra/uso dos serviços aéreos e; a atitude dos consumidores e suas intenções de compra/uso dos serviços de transporte aéreo.

A reestruturação territorial decorrente dos ajustes espaciais do capitalismo favoreceu a consolidação do agronegócio em Mato Grosso, criando um quadro de uso corporativo do território. A modernização do setor agropecuário implicou na ampliação da produção e na necessidade de uma maior fluidez corporativa, exigindo investimentos no setor de transportes. Porém, como o Estado teve pouca capacidade de dotar o território da logística de transportes adequada aos interesses corporativos, criou-se um quadro que prejudica a competitividade do agronegócio mato-grossense, levando-o a buscar novas alternativas para superar os obstáculos existentes. Nesse contexto, objetivamos compreender os processos advindos dos ajustes espaciais do capitalismo sobre o território para o seu uso corporativo pelo agronegócio, cuja dinâmica produz uma diferenciação territorial quanto às infraestruturas instaladas, gerando um quadro de desenvolvimento pontual em lugares escolhidos pelos agentes hegemônicos.
The territorial restructuring resulting from capitalist spatial adjustments favored the agribusiness consolidation in Mato Grosso, creating a corporate use of the territory. The modernization of the agricultural sector resulted in the expansion of production and the need for greater corporate fluidity, requiring investments in the transportation sector. However, as the state had limited capacity to provide the territory with the appropriate transport logistics to corporate interests, a framework that undermines the competitiveness of Mato Grosso agribusiness was created, leading it to seek new alternatives to overcome the hurdles. In this context, we aim to understand the processes arising from spatial adjustments of capitalism over the territory for its corporate use by the agribusiness sector, whose dynamics produces a territorial differentiation regarding the infrastructure installed, generating a timely development framework in places chosen by hegemonic agents.

This study aims to investigate whether the taking part of the individuals in programs belonging to Corporate Education presents effects on their career or their personal development of the professional. Within the theory scope, approaches are made through Dutra (2002), Fleury (1997), Guns (1998) and others in order to say about learning theme and the works written by Beschizza (2005), Gunz (2007) e Hall (2002) to address the issues related to the career. This study has a qualitative and explorative characteristic with relation to a cargo transportation segment organization. Departmental leaders have taken part in this study though interviews based on semistructured guide in the intention of obtaining the data. As results, they were identified the ways for a corporate education and career development as well. Thus, it was possible to set up a practical model for corporate education towards cargo transportation companies and at the same time, to contribute to create an organizational culture. It was concluded there are effects on the employees-taking part in these programs in Corporate Education.
Esse estudo se propõe analisar se a participação dos indivíduos em programas pertencentes à Educação Corporativa apresenta efeitos sobre a carreira e sobre o desenvolvimento pessoal dos colaboradores. Em âmbito teórico, tomam-se os trabalhos de Dutra (2002), Fleury (1997), Guns (1998) entre outros para tratar da temática de aprendizagem e as obras de Beschizza (2005), Gunz (2007) e Hall (2002) para a questão da carreira. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de cunho, exploratório, em uma organização do segmento de transportes de cargas. Participaram do estudo líderes departamentais, sendo que para obtenção de dados foi utilizada uma entrevista baseada em roteiro semiestruturado. Como resultados, identificaram-se os caminhos da educação corporativa e desenvolvimento da carreira. Desta forma, foi possível caracterizar um modelo e exemplo prático de educação corporativa às empresas de transportes de cargas, contribuindo para a formação de uma cultura organizacional. Conclui-se que se têm efeitos sobre a participação dos colaboradores nos programas de Educação Corporativa.

Resumo: No período atual, as grandes empresas fazem uso dos territórios de acordo com seus interesses e demandas e balizados pela mais-valia global Cada empresa, necessita de pontos e áreas que constituem a base territorial de sua existência, como dados da produção, da circulação e do consumo. Assim, o território aparece como um conjunto de pontos. O uso desses pontos do território nacional é submetido a uma lógica que, por intermédio de uma empresa global, acaba sendo uma lógica global. Procurando demonstrar essas assertivas, este trabalho busca compreender como se dá o uso corporativo do território brasileiro através de uma análise das ações da empresa Cargill nos Circuitos Espaciais Produtivos da soja, da laranja e do cacau e dos Círculos de Cooperação no Espaço decorrentes destes circuitos. Esta empresa estimula e utiliza os sistemas técnicos-científicos-informacionais do meio geográfico brasileiro de forma corporativa, chamando essas áreas agrícolas do território nacional a participem do processo de modernização atual, lugares onde o processo de globalização se territorializa, e por outro lado excluem grande parte da população brasileira das benesses proporcionadas pelo que é produzido nestes mesmos locais, conduzindo a uma fragmentação da nação. Abstract: Nowadays, big companies use the territory according to their interests and demands guided by the global market. Each company needs points and areas that constitute the territorial base of their existence, as production, circulation and market. That way, territory turns out to be a group of points. The use of these national territory points is submitted to a logic that, through the global companies, becomes global. In search of showing that, this work tries to understand how the corporative use of Brazilian territory happens through an analysis of the Cargill corporation actions in the spatial circuits of production of soybean, orange and cocoa in Brazil and the cooperation circles generated from those circuits. This company stimulates and uses the technical-scientific-informational systems of Brazil in a corporative way, bringing several modernizations to some agriculture areas of the national territory, places where the globalization processes materializes and on the other hand excluding great portions of Brazilian people of the goods generated by the production in those places, conducing to a nation fragmentation. Pese a los esfuerzos de las instituciones por regular el gobierno corporativo en Colombia, éstos han sido insuficientes para lograr un marco normativo robusto que obligue las empresas a seguir las directrices establecidas en el actual Código País. Considerando la incipiente fase en la que se encuentra el gobierno corporativo en el país, la literatura alrededor de este tema es escaza; es por esto, que se realiza esta investigación, con el objetivo de evaluar el grado de cumplimiento de las prácticas de gobierno corporativo en las empresas de transporte aéreo que operan en Colombia. Cabe resaltar que esta tesis pretende brindar las pautas iniciales para futuras investigaciones que quieran profundizar en este tema. El presente estudio se elaboró bajo un enfoque cualitativo, de alcance descriptivo y un diseño transversal. Se utilizó una muestra por conveniencia de las aerolíneas que tuvieran la mayor participación en el mercado colombiano al cierre del 2015 y mediante el uso del Código País, se calculó el grado de cumplimiento de las prácticas de gobierno corporativo y se describió una posible relación entre el grado de cumplimiento mencionado y el valor financiero de las aerolíneas que operan en Colombia. Finalmente, con los resultados obtenidos en la investigación, se puede inferir que desde la perspectiva del sector del transporte aéreo en Colombia, existe una posible relación positiva entre el grado de cumplimiento de las prácticas de gobierno corporativo y la generación valor financiero.
Despite of the efforts made by the institutions to regulate corporate governance in Colombia, these have been insufficient to achieve a strong regulatory framework that obliges companies to follow the guidelines established in the current Country Code. Considering the emerging phase in which corporate governance is in the country, the literature around this topic is scarce; this is why, this research is made, with the objective to evaluate the compliance degree of the corporate governance practices in the air transport companies that operate in Colombia. It should be emphasized that this thesis aims to provide the initial guidelines for future researches related to this topic. The present study was elaborated under a qualitative approach, with descriptive scope and transversal design. A convenience sample was used, based on those airlines with the largest participation in the Colombian market at the end of 2015 and using the Country Code, the corporate governance practices compliance degree was calculated and the possible relationship between the compliance degree and the financial results in airlines that operate in Colombia was described. Finally, with the obtained results, it can be inferred that from the Colombia’s air transport sector perspective, there is a possible positive relationship between the corporate governance practices compliance degree and the generation of financial value.

Diante das exigências corporativas de ampliação e intensificação da circulação em escala global, o controle privado de redes de transportes no Brasil emerge como uma característica do uso do território brasileiro. Tal fato é, em grande medida, resultado da redefinição do papel do Estado na gestão das redes técnicas a partir da década de 1990, processo esse orientado por interesses neoliberais e viabilizado, entre outras políticas públicas, pela criação do Programa Nacional de Desestatização (PND). Nesse contexto, iniciou-se no País uma série de privatizações e concessões de redes técnicas, principalmente no setor de transportes (ferrovias, rodovias, portos e aeroportos), cujos desdobramentos se estendem até os dias atuais. Por estes motivos, o objetivo central desta pesquisa foi analisar a concessão das rodovias federais BR-060 e BR-153 em Goiás, uma vez que se trata dos dois principais eixos de circulação no território goiano. Os procedimentos metodológicos basearam-se em levantamento, leitura e sistematização de referências textuais (livros, teses, artigos etc.) sobre Estado, redes de transportes, circulação, fluidez territorial, entre outras temáticas. Também se procedeu ao levantamento, tratamento e análise de dados quantitativos e qualitativos obtidos junto a instituições públicas e privadas de nível nacional, a exemplo da Agência Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT), Banco Nacional do Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social (BNDES), Confederação Nacional dos Transportes (CNT), entre outras. Por fim, realizouse pesquisas de campo para coleta de dados sobre os fixos e fluxos nas rodovias bem como mapeamento dos processos analisados. Considerando a temática da pesquisa, optou-se por utilizar, fundamentalmente, dois conceitos principais: redes e território usado. Justifica tal opção o fato de que as redes técnicas, de modo geral, e a rede de transportes, em particular, constituem não apenas meros elementos técnicos, mas, sobretudo, meios pelos quais circulam os fluxos e as ordens que estruturam o território. Daí a pertinência de analisar não o território em si, mas sim o seu uso. Os resultados apontam para a tese de que, no Brasil, a concessão de rodovias federais – processo em franca expansão no País – caracteriza o uso corporativo do território brasileiro, uma vez que sua efetivação atende a interesses corporativos, seja por meio da acumulação espoliativa (principalmente via cobrança de pedágio) ou da produção e controle da fluidez territorial (ações voltadas à melhoria das condições de circulação). Por esta razão, conclui-se que a concessão das rodovias federais BR-060 e BR-153 em solo goiano, assim como em outras regiões do País, expressa uma estratégica articulação entre Estado e iniciativa privada, cujo objetivo – apoiado em uma base normativa propícia e camuflado por um discurso corporativo-institucional positivo – resulta das tramas políticas que, por meio das redes, estruturam o território e, portanto, definem o seu uso corporativo.

El siguiente texto tiene por objeto la exposición de las directrices y principios para el gobierno corporativo de empresas estatales que la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico ha elaborado durante la última década, sistematizando y unificando lo que han sido años de discusión teórica. Conocer y comprender estas directrices y principios es relevante, no sólo por motivos académicos, sino por el papel que jugaron en las exigencias que dicho organismo internacional impuso a nuestro país para formar parte de él. Esta importancia radica en la influencia que las directrices y principios tuvieron en las modificaciones que se realizaron a la normativa sobre gobiernos corporativos de nuestro país, principalmente a la Ley de Sociedades Anónimas -estructura empresarial bajo la cual se organizan muchas de las empresas estatales nacionales-, y a la modificación del Estatuto Orgánico de CODELCO, la mayor empresa pública del país y una de las compañías mineras más grandes e importantes a nivel mundial, lo que significó una de las mayores reformas realizadas con el objeto de ingresar a la OCDE.

The State reform that developed in the 1990s in several countries, aimed to make the state strong and efficient. To achieve this goal it was necessary to define the functions of the state, reducing its level of interference then increase its governance and governability. The government has thus worrying about organizational development and enhancement, and mainly, with the active participation of society. The e-governance was the means used to reach that information to citizens quickly and efficiently, and in order to facilitate monitoring by users. With this era of information technology governance was needed also in the third sector. This study aims to analyze the practices of e-governance in corporate foundations through an index and its relationship with the financial resources acquired (total and by donations). For this, the methodological procedures were divided into three stages: the first sought to use the literature to identify and organize the set of best practices of e-governance adopted in the foundations, which were divided into 5 groups: content with 18 practices, with 16 services practices, 10 practices with citizen participation, privacy and security practices with 6 and 18-usability and accessibility practices. The second stage sought to use the framework of electronic governance practices for the development of Electronic Governance Index of Foundations called IGEF that was applied on the websites of 58 GIFE foundations associated with the period from 15/12/2012 to 10/01/2013. The third phase sought to identify the relationship between electronic governance, represented by IGEF and total revenues with 39 foundations and endowments with 40. Through IGEF was possible to identify the percentage of practices implemented and concluded that both total revenues and the revenues from donations are positively correlated with the level of implementation of electronic governance practices.

Na fase preliminar são estabelecidos os pesos metas para todos os grupos de estrutura e sistemas que compõem a aeronave. Estes pesos devem ser estritamente controlados durante toda a fase de desenvolvimento do projeto usando-os sistematicamente como um guia. O controle do peso meta ée uma das ferramentas mais importantes para o sucesso de uma aeronave e ée um requisito de grande preocupação na indústria aeronáutica. De fato, soluções que produzem pesos menores e controlados dos componentes estruturais e de sistemas corroboram, para que se atinja a meta da carga paga, resultando em uma aeronave competitiva e com menor custo de operação. Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar, desenvolver e modificar um programa de computador para o cálculo e estimativa de pesos para aviões comerciais. As modificações propostas são para adaptá-lo e criar um programa específico de estimativa de pesos para a classe executiva. Este programa será utilizado na geração dos pesos metas de projeto do avião executivo em questão, e os resultados derivados deste estudo, serão utilizados nas análises preliminares de peso e balanceamento e demais atividades correlatas. Como forma de aferir e aprovar as modificações, os resultados do programa serão comparados com os pesos reais conhecidos e os métodos acadêmicos existentes.

Previous studies on corporate divestiture in international publications have documented that operations with poor operating performance, financial difficulties or with low investment levels are significant determinants of corporate divestment decisions. They also consider that larger companies, firm age and firms that had previous experience in divestment are more prone to new divestitures. The hypotheses were formulated based on previous results and the research was developed to identify the determinants of divestment for a sample of 161 Brazilian companies for the period from 2004 to 2015 with 352 divestiture events. The findings are consistent with the proposition that firm size and prior divestitures experience are significant determinants of divestitures. As a surprise, the results do not support the hypotheses that poor operating performance, leverage, lower investment level and firm age as determinants of divestiture activities. This study provides an introduction to the topic of corporate divestiture and its determinants in the national academic context.
Estudos anteriores sobre desinvestimento corporativo em publica????es internacionais documentam que opera????es com fraco desempenho operacional, dificuldades financeiras ou com baixo n??vel de investimento s??o significativos determinantes para decis??es de desinvestimento para as empresas. Consideram ainda que empresas maiores, idade da empresas e empresas que tiveram uma experi??ncia anterior em desinvestimento s??o mais propensas a novos desinvestimentos. As hip??teses foram formuladas apoiadas em resultados pr??vios e desenvolveu-se a pesquisa para identificar os determinantes de desinvestimento para uma amostra de 161 empresas brasileiras, para o per??odo de 2004 a 2015 com 352 eventos de desinvestimentos. Os achados s??o consistentes com a proposi????o de que o tamanho da empresa e exist??ncia de desinvestimento pr??vio s??o significativos desencadeadores de desinvestimentos. Como surpresa, os resultados n??o suportam as hip??teses de fraca performance operacional, endividamento, baixo n??vel de investimento e idade da empresa como determinantes de atividades de desinvestimento. Este estudo fornece uma introdu????o para o tema desinvestimento corporativo e seus determinantes no contexto acad??mico nacional.

This work was carried through has as objective to analyze the good impacts of the adoption of corporative governance in Brazil in the period of 2002-2005 through the analysis of the closings daily of the IGC in relation to the Ibovespa and influence of the macroeconomic factors (Risk - Brazil, Selic tax and North American dollar). In the analysis of the impact of the governance one used the closings daily of the IGC, Ibovespa, Risk - Brazil, Tax Selic and North American Dollar in the period of 02/01/2002 the 30/06/2005 and statistical studies of the linear regression, correlation and determination of the risk coefficient. In the conclusion, it was proven that the corporative governance is an important step for the development of the stock market in Brazil, therefore to create one favorable environment the investments in shares, but Brazil still needs to improve its macroeconomic beddings to create an environment propitiates to the sustainable development.

Summary of the main content of the thesis: Confirm the need of human resources practice in both theory and reality. Summarize basic theory of human resources training practice in enterprise (concept, role, content, elements). Present overview of research situation of domestic and international works in staff training and TRACO. Conduct a research by using survey cards, interviewing, observing training practice toward office workers and employees to receive and deliver in TRACO. Use methods of counting, comparing, analyzing staff training practice in the company in recent years. Look for secondary data resources to assess real situation of research issue objectively and subjectively. Come to conclusion (the role of thesis, limitation of research and research orientation in the future) and give some recommendations to promote human resources training practice in TRACO (including four main groups of recommendation to determining the need of human resources training, building plans of staff training, carrying out plans of staff training and assessing staff resources practice) and other recommendations. Results collected can become foundation for TRACO to conduct researches and apply to strengthen quality of staff training practice in the upcoming. Moreover, the results help approach to research in the similar issues to gain better productivity for Master’s thesis in the future.

As the Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation finished, the communication in Taipei has became extremely convenient and peripheral business is thriving and prosperous. However, the most part railway of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation is designed in the underground. Once the accident take place, a lot of people in Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation will be hard to flee for their lives and we are mot able to know how many people are waiting for rescue. And it might cause a great deal of dead and injured. For example, "Lift the Head Skin in Taipei" in 2004, "Subway Fire Accident in Azerbaijan,Russia" in 1995, "Arson in Taegu,South Korea" in 2003, these all show that the importance of people number under supervision. The purpose of this study is to employ the RFID to achieve the goal of control people number. We probe into the advantages and disadvantages of all kinds of card at first, and then introduce the theorem and applications of RFID (Radio Frequency Identification). At last, We use the software "LabVIEW" to simulate the operation of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation and to achieve the goal of verifying the people number under supervision.

Taiwan is an island economy, which lacks natural resources, nor big domestic market. Taiwan’s economic growth must rely on international trade, import of various raw materials, and then processed into products sold to all over the world. The import and export of goods used for the bulk shipping, so marine industry is very important. In the international supply chain, shipping links with different national and regional supply chan. The performance of supply chain and economy indicators are closely related, so this study sought to shipping companies, international supply chain and the economy indicators may be a link to explore. In this study, a literature review conclude to the pattern of international supply chain, and choose A & B to carry out two case studies. The scope of the study are mainly the Asia - U.S. west coast route. Economy indicators choose gross domestic product, industrial production index, consumer price index, producer price index, the federal funds rate and housing starts. The research results summarize in the following three points: 1. The shipping company’s Asia - U.S. west coast route revenue and gross domestic product, industrial production index, consumer price index, producer price index, the federal funds rate and housing starts have a positive relationship. The federal funds rate and the housing starts are leading indicators. 2. International supply chain manufactures sales to U.S. and gross domestic product, industrial production index, consumer price index, producer price index, the federal funds rate and housing starts have a positive relationship. The federal funds rate and the housing starts are leading indicators. 3. The shipping company’s Asia - U.S. west coast route revenue and international supply chain manufactures sales to U.S. have a positive relationship.

It''s predicted that the scale of Asia liner will exceed Transpacific liner in the coming 5 to 10 years to become one of the developing centers of marine transportation. Starting from oceangoing liner of Europe and America, Yangming Marine Transport Corp. has good liner layout, if could take tremendous cargo resources of oceangoing to coordinate with the development of East Asia, Southeast Asia and mainland China markets, then the Intra-Asia liner service shall be developed well in the future. And if further develops an independent and professional inshore subsidiary company that will bring strategic effect for Yangming group. Since 1991, Yangming Marine Transport Corp. developed Intra-Asia liner service, though the operational scale was growing, the current management strategy, still act the feeder service of oceangoing liner as main role. That no matter in the coverage of liner, supply quantity of ship''s space, independent operational ability (undertaking ability) or profiting are not corresponding to the prosperous development of Intra-Asia market. And its operation scale is far behind the main inshore marine company in Taiwan. In consideration of the Intra-Asia liner service is the main market in the future, to develop it shall be an important thing Yanming Marine Transport Corp. must do immediately. This study is to explore the trend for management environment of marine transportation industry, and management characteristic and trend for market of marine transportation in Intra-Asia; to analyze the management type for marine transportation company in Taiwan and the conditions shall be have for promotion and development, then raise a study frame to analyze the influence on change of outside environment and evaluate the conditions it has so as to prepare the development strategy of Intra-Asia liner service for Yangming Marine Transport Corp. and the enforcement planning hereof. Maritime transport of goods is the most important international logistics transport mode, especially for Taiwan’s international trade and economic development. Since surrounded by sea, he most import and export of goods of Taiwan are transported by maritime transport. Therefore, Taiwan’s top 3 maritime transport corporations are all on the world’s top 20 list. Ocean freight is transported by ship, so shipping companies need to hire capable seafarers to operate ships. In the meanwhile, the hired seafarers must hold a certificate of approval, issued by flag state. In this research, I interviewed with top management of a Taiwanese maritime transport corporation about its human resource(HR) practices on seafarers. I emphasized on staffing and compensation of seafarers, since training/development of seafarers is done by university and vocational school. Seafarers’staffing is affected by international public law, domestic laws and regulations, and policies of company. Therefore, the results of this study include the seafarers'' management (owner’s nationality, seafarer''s nationality, ship’s nationality, port state) and seafarers'' union, shipping division and seafarers place, Taiwanese seafarers'' formal education and their characteristics, the nature of the work of seafarers, staffing management(employment policy, recruitment sources, onboard, employment contracts, retention, termination employment relationship, and promotion), and compensation management(compensation policy, pay structure, overtime pay, injured pay, bonuses, benefits, psychological compensation, foreign seafarers pay). Finally, I discussed the results and made some practical recommendations.

This study is written with objective of evaluating the impacts of relevant factors to passenger satisfaction of Ha Giang Passenger Corporation in the context of Ha Giang Passenger Corporation. By adopting the conceptual research model it is proposed that passenger satisfaction of Ha Giang Passenger Corporation is being impacted by five factors, namely transportation services performance, equipment solutions, customer solution performances, freight loss and damage, service support performances. Using quantitative research method, a survey is conducted with involvement of 200 customers customers who have been using transportation services of Ha Giang Passenger Corporation in last 3 years. There are three data analysis methods that have been utilized, including (1) descriptive statistics, (2) reliability test analysis, and (3) linear regression. Results showed that five factors used in conceptual research model can explain for 58.4 percent of changes satisfaction of Ha Giang Passenger Corporation (R-Square = 0.584). Furthermore, passenger satisfaction on services provided by Ha Giang Passenger Corporation is impacted significantly and statistically by Transportation service performance, Equipment solution, Customer solution performance, Freight loss and damage, and Service support performance. Partial correlation coefficients of these factors are 0.256, 0.092, 0.278, 0.178, and 0.154 and they have T-Tests are statistical significant at 5 percent of confidence interval.

Indian cities rely predominantly on buses for public transport. The issues of performance measurement and efficiency analyses for the bus company have been gaining significance due to severe operating conditions and financial constraints in which these bus companies provide the service. Performance is defined as the levels of success of the service with respect to different parameters such as quality of service, cost effectiveness and safety. Performance is measured in terms of operational efficiency and financial efficiency. Operational Efficiency of an organization is the ability to utilize its available resources to the maximum extent. Financial Efficiency is a measure of the organization’s ability to translate its financial resources into revenue. Public bus transportation plays a pivotal role in India in bringing about greater mobility both within and between urban and rural areas. Through increased mobility, road transport also contributes immensely to social and economic development of different regions of the country. Public transport is provided by surface road transport using buses by the State Road Transport Undertakings (SRTUs) and by private operators. In this thesis, scientific analysis of the performance of SRTUs is carried out at different levels considering physical and financial parameters through multivariate techniques, non-parametric techniques and qualitative techniques. A comprehensive study on all the SRTUs of Karnataka at depot, division level are done and determined which quantitative method is suited for depot level and division level studies. From quantitative and qualitative studies of SRTUs strategies are developed and recommendations are made to improve the performance of SRTUs. Further, in addition to Bangalore metropolitan transport corporation (BMTC) performance analyses, the routes are analyzed to reduce the dead kilometer. Major contributions from this work: 1. Both inter and intra city operations of the public transport corporation in the state of Karnataka have been exhaustively analysed using operational and financial parameters. 2. Large amount of data over a long period has been collated from State road transport units and a standard format has been developed for collecting both operational and financial parameters for SRTU’s. 3. A generic framework and plan for performance evaluation of SRTU’s has been developed using ratio and benchmarking analysis, and, non-parametric and multivariate techniques like DEA (constant return to scale (CRS) and variable return to scale (VRS)), DEA-principal component analysis (PCA), DEA- bootstrapping. These analyses have been carried out at different levels, like transport corporations level (KSRTC NEKRTC, NWKRTC, BMTC), division level (33 divisions), and Depot level (193 depots). 4. Non parametric and multivariate Models have been developed and validated using DEAP and GAMS software before embarking on the above detailed analyses. 5. Analytical hierarchy approach (AHP), which is multi criteria structured technique, has been adopted to evaluate and analyze performance of the SRTU’s, divisions and depots based on qualitative and quantitative data. 6. User and operator perception studies of different SRTU’s of Karnataka have been done to evaluate the performance of these corporations from qualitative techniques. 7. From these comprehensive non parametric techniques, the efficiency of the SRTU’s have been evaluated and found that KSRTC has been the best operating unit among the SRTU’s considered for the study. The same has been observed from the AHP as well as perception surveys carried out as part of this thesis. 8. Operation and financial performance including profitability studies of Mysore urban transportation (Mysore city transport division) has been carried out before and after implementation of intelligent transport system (ITS). 9. The dead kilometer minimization model was formulated, which is a mixed integer programming problem, to get the optimal solution considering the capacity of the depot and time period of operation for the chosen network. An optimization technique has been developed for solving the dead kilometer problem in the operations of BMTC buses for the Volvo division (division operates 794 schedules). The alternative depot locations have been identified to reduce the dead kilometer, leading to large amount of savings for the corporation. 10. From the detailed analyses using non parametric techniques, multivariate and multi-criteria techniques along with perception surveys, strategies and recommendations have been arrived at to improve performance of the public transport corporations. This thesis consists of nine chapters and they are as below; Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction of public bus transport systems in India, their problems and need for performance evaluation of SRTUs. The impacts study of Mysore ITS, dead kilometer minimization problem for BMTC along with evaluating the performance of SRTUs by quantitative and qualitative data. This chapter provides the objective of the work and scope of the work. The main objectives of this research are 1. Indian cities rely predominantly on buses for public transport. The issues of performance measurement and efficiency analyses for the bus company have been gaining significance due to severe operating conditions and financial constraints in which these bus companies provide the service. Performance is defined as the levels of success of the service with respect to different parameters such as quality of service, cost effectiveness and safety. Performance is measured in terms of operational efficiency and financial efficiency. Operational Efficiency of an organization is the ability to utilize its available resources to the maximum extent. Financial Efficiency is a measure of the organization’s ability to translate its financial resources into revenue. Public bus transportation plays a pivotal role in India in bringing about greater mobility both within and between urban and rural areas. Through increased mobility, road transport also contributes immensely to social and economic development of different regions of the country. Public transport is provided by surface road transport using buses by the State Road Transport Undertakings (SRTUs) and by private operators. In this thesis, scientific analysis of the performance of SRTUs is carried out at different levels considering physical and financial parameters through multivariate techniques, non-parametric techniques and qualitative techniques. A comprehensive study on all the SRTUs of Karnataka at depot, division level are done and determined which quantitative method is suited for depot level and division level studies. From quantitative and qualitative studies of SRTUs strategies are developed and recommendations are made to improve the performance of SRTUs. Further, in addition to Bangalore metropolitan transport corporation (BMTC) performance analyses, the routes are analyzed to reduce the dead kilometer. Major contributions from this work: 1. Both inter and intra city operations of the public transport corporation in the state of Karnataka have been exhaustively analysed using operational and financial parameters. 2. Large amount of data over a long period has been collated from State road transport units and a standard format has been developed for collecting both operational and financial parameters for SRTU’s. 3. A generic framework and plan for performance evaluation of SRTU’s has been developed using ratio and benchmarking analysis, and, non-parametric and multivariate techniques like DEA (constant return to scale (CRS) and variable return to scale (VRS)), DEA-principal component analysis (PCA), DEA- bootstrapping. These analyses have been carried out at different levels, like transport corporations level (KSRTC NEKRTC, NWKRTC, BMTC), division level (33 divisions), and Depot level (193 depots). 4. Non parametric and multivariate Models have been developed and validated using DEAP and GAMS software before embarking on the above detailed analyses. 5. Analytical hierarchy approach (AHP), which is multi criteria structured technique, has been adopted to evaluate and analyze performance of the SRTU’s, divisions and depots based on qualitative and quantitative data. 6. User and operator perception studies of different SRTU’s of Karnataka have been done to evaluate the performance of these corporations from qualitative techniques. 7. From these comprehensive non parametric techniques, the efficiency of the SRTU’s have been evaluated and found that KSRTC has been the best operating unit among the SRTU’s considered for the study. The same has been observed from the AHP as well as perception surveys carried out as part of this thesis. 8. Operation and financial performance including profitability studies of Mysore urban transportation (Mysore city transport division) has been carried out before and after implementation of intelligent transport system (ITS). 9. The dead kilometer minimization model was formulated, which is a mixed integer programming problem, to get the optimal solution considering the capacity of the depot and time period of operation for the chosen network. An optimization technique has been developed for solving the dead kilometer problem in the operations of BMTC buses for the Volvo division (division operates 794 schedules). The alternative depot locations have been identified to reduce the dead kilometer, leading to large amount of savings for the corporation. 10. From the detailed analyses using non parametric techniques, multivariate and multi-criteria techniques along with perception surveys, strategies and recommendations have been arrived at to improve performance of the public transport corporations. This thesis consists of nine chapters and they are as below; Chapter 1 provides a brief introduction of public bus transport systems in India, their problems and need for performance evaluation of SRTUs. The impacts study of Mysore ITS, dead kilometer minimization problem for BMTC along with evaluating the performance of SRTUs by quantitative and qualitative data. This chapter provides the objective of the work and scope of the work. The main objectives of this research are 1. To develop a generic framework and plan for evaluation by identifying the performance indicators and data sources for evaluation.

The job satisfaction of employees is a big factor that any organization desires and reaches because it effect directly on job performance and the loyalty of organization’s staff. There are many factors that affect to staff’s satisfaction, but this study is focused on Human Resource strategy (specially: income and promotion training). Using exploratory research, this study can determine the influencing the job satisfaction and loyalty of employees in Hanoi Transport & services corporation (TRANSERCO). The work also presented here has profound implications for future studies of Job satisfaction and employee’s loyalty and may one day help solve the problem of demission in organization.

Safe, high speed, on time, high transport volume, minimum land use, low energy and low pollution are unique features of high-speed rail transport. In countries reaching a threshold level of economic development, traditional railway system will no longer satisfy the need of the mass in cross-township transport. As the cost of energy and demand for environmental protection escalates, high-speed rails have gradually surfaced as a competitive mode of transport in cross-township traveling. Furthermore, it is able to bring regional developments. However, high-speed rail transport is a new industry in Taiwan. There has been no hands-on experience in the passenger service. How then, through the development of marketing strategy and implementation, so as to promote the service quality and customer satisfaction, has been a primary operations objective of high-speed railways. This motivated the need to study the service marketing strategy in high-speed rail transport. The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) is the subject of this study. The 7P marketing mix of the service industry was the theoretical foundation. Historical data on the service and marketing strategies of high-speed railways in countries such as Japan, France and Germany were collected. Questions for conducting in-depth interviews with experts in high-speed railway were devised from the study of these historical data. In addition, a survey questionnaire was developed from the data collected via interviews. Passengers taking the Taiwan High Speed Rail were surveyed for statistical analysis. Finally, an appropriate service and marketing strategy was developed. The results show, the Taiwan High Speed Rail needs to first build a brand image of safety and credibility. It needs to schedule and allocate headways in line with its target passenger group and develop a comprehensive product strategy for its target customers. Having done that, it needs to propose competitive price strategies and promotion programs on corporate customers and travel agencies. Making use of the comprehensive mobile telephony coverage and internet network, and more convenient channels should be further developed. Furthermore, the THSRC needs to solve the problem of passenger transfers in station areas gradually. This is necessary to promote the overall service quality, satisfy divergent needs of the target market, and build up a recognized brand in high-speed railway transport. Finally, the recommendations made to THSRC were compared with service and marketing strategies in other countries. It is hoped that the results would be able to provide THSRC and any other countries planning to develop high-speed railway, some practical reference in planning their marketing strategies.

There is findings about the relationship among Education & Training and Organization Commitment. This Paper try to explore the training satisfaction, performance and needs of Marine Transport Corporation In Taiwan. By the case study to check if Education & Training is not only fitting employee's requirement but also helping for Organization Commitment. At the end, analyzing the needs of employee of Marine Transport Corporation and giving the recommendation. In view of this, it was not only the exploration of scientific or technical literature but also use questionnaire surveys to get empirical data. The research was completed by using sampling method and questionnaire. The total of 200 questionnaires in internet were sent out and 129 valued questionnaires were collected to carry out the analysis. The statistical analysis was conducted by using SPSS statistic software. The series of reliability analysis, descriptive statistic, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis were carried out. Another way, individual in-depth interviews for selected personnel is used to collect qualitative data. After analyzing the quantitative and qualitative data, the research concludes the following results: 1. Education & Training satisfaction and performance has a significant positive influence on Organization Commitment. 2. The predictability of educational & training on the overall organizational commitment attained to 37.3%. 3. To improve Education & Training satisfaction and performance is help to enhance the Organization Commitment, especially the retention commitment. 4. On the analysis of educational & training needs, the content and method of educational & training is important factor to employee. In the end, based upon the research results above, this study offers a variety of suggestions as that to enhance Education & Training planning, build an internal instructor system, and develop knowledge management.

Multinational corporations constitute social problems, which are worsening, including economic problems, conflicts between labor and enterprise, uneven distribution of social resources, and human rights. In addition, they are exploiting natural resources in massive scales, rendering the issue of climate change that cannot be overlooked. With the increasing emphasis on the social responsibilities of enterprises by governments and private institutions, enterprises have included social responsibilities as one of the objectives in sustaining their operations. To upgrade enterprises’ competitiveness they must regard employees as important assets. In recent years, the maritime transportation industry is facing the worsening conditions of economic recession. The employees in enterprises are getting frustrated, beginning to lose faith in them. Therefore, this research investigates the relationship between employee’s Corporate Social Responsibility perception and organization commitment. This study employed questionnaires as its research method, with a Taiwanese shipping company as an example to administer the questionnaire among its internal stakeholders, i.e. employees, with 157 valid questionnaires collected. Then, SPSS was used to conduct descriptive statistical analysis, reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The research results indicate the issue of corporate social responsibilities relies on company governance, employees’ concerns, risk control and security that shows a significant positive association with values promised within an organizational commitment. Company governance and risk control and security that shows a significant positive association with values effort within an organization commitment. In addition, corporate social responsibilities are shown to have a positive association in the goodness of fit between company governance and employees’ concerns. This research suggests when pursuing sustainable development, enterprises should promote the “company governance”, “employees’ concerns” and “risk control and security” in corporate social responsibilities in order to promote employees’ organizational commitment.

In response to globalization, rapid development of trading activities, and demand for transportation from international corporations, the service range of container shipping industry has shifted from regional scale to international one. With expansion of trading and shipping bases, to strengthen the cooperative relationships among overseas branches, headquarters have to dispatch employees overseas serving as representatives to deal with managerial affairs in the branches. Therefore, how to motivate and manage expatriates, assist their adaptation to local contexts, and further accomplish the tasks assigned by the organization have become major challenges to international human resource management. This study examines the relationships among expatriates’ perceived organizational support, overseas adjustment, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment based on social exchange theory. The research results indicate that 1) expatriates’ perceived organizational support has a significant effect on overseas adjustment, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment; 2) expatriates’ perceived organizational support affects expatriates’ job satisfaction through overseas adjustment; 3) expatriates’ perceived organizational support affects expatriates’ organizational commitment through job satisfaction. Implications on international human resource management have been specifically discussed.

The history of Taiwan Sugar Corporation is closely related to that of Taiwan’s economy development. Not only Taiwan Sugar Corporation witnessed the transformation of Taiwan’s economy, but also it used to a great support for early economy. The pervasive railroad of the company in central and southern Taiwan, despite of its transportation use, is a common memory of the last generation. Due to the poor road transportation system back in 1960 to 1970, the communication of some countries solely depended on the small railroad car, namely the traffic vehicles for workers and students. Moreover, the sugarcane, brought by slowly moved Wufen railroad car, became the best snack for those people in their childhood in those poor economy days. Although the white sugarcane bites very hard, it is quite a sweet nostalgia of childhood. However, conditions of the company also changed drastically followed by huge changes of major environment. The principal business of the company, the sugar business, has lost its competitiveness both by the raise of overall labor salary and competitive price of sugar worldwide. Facing the dualistic pressure of deficit and transformation, the sugar railroad lines of multi-function were ceased to apply and waited for tearing down. Alone with the sugar railroad seemed to become history because it lost its function and value, recreation value tendency in holidays became more and more popular. Furthermore, the concepts of preventing local historical landmarks, local identification and local cultural industry rise abruptly. What deserves to be mentioned is that lots of railroad culture prevention personage continues their concern and devotion to railroad affairs, and the preservation and reuse of Wufun railroad car catches lots of concern and help. The Wufun sugar railroad car again goes on under the atmosphere, but the anew initiated car plays an unprecedented brand new role. The lines of sightseeing railroad car converted by Taiwan Sugar Corporation from north to south are Sihu Flower and Plants Culture Park of Sihu sugar factory in Changhua County, Shantou Zhitseng Culture Park of Shantou sugar factory in Chiayi County, Shinyin Railroad Culture Park of Shinyin sugar factory in Tainan County, Wushulin Recreation Park of Wushulin sugar factory in Tainan County, Kaohsiung Flower and Plants Farm Center of Chiaotou sugar factory in Kaohsiung County, and sightseeing railroad car of Nanzhou sugar factory in Pingtong County. However, the history of sugar railroad development and present situation need to be clarified before its restart lest we should lost its function and characteristics as history education in developing culture industries. However, Taiwan Sugar Corporation is a stated-operated enterprise with, complex organization, and the flexibility and speed of it cannot be compared to private enterprises. As the capitalized cost in personnel affairs is much higher, Taiwan Sugar Corporation faces an inferior position in the ability of gaining innate profits. Due to the prior job for Taiwan Sugar Corporation is to turn loss into gain, the railroad car running as a culture industry cannot be an exception since profit speaks. This study employed an example of Sihu Flower and Plants Culture Park to make an overall exploration of sugar railroad construction, and it is hopefully to find the opportunities for restart and transformation for Wufun railroad car. Furthermore, the results of research may provide suggestions in management and adjustment of the park for sustainable operation and prevention and continuation of Wufun railroad car culture.

MTR Corporation Limited (MTR), a public transport company in Hong Kong, has been publishing a monthly newsletter – The MTR Express – for its employees since 1979. It is suggested that MTR must find it worthwhile to do so, using it to influence its employees and make them accept its values as their own. Influence is exerted on staff members through identification-inducement strategies in the newsletter which implant values in their decision-making process so that they always act in the organization’s interest. This is one of the ways through which an organization exercises unobtrusive control over its workforce. The main focus of this study is, using content analysis, to examine the extent of MTR’s use of Cheney’s (1983) identification-inducement strategies and tactics in The MTR Express. The study is the first to develop rules for assessing new strategies to add to Cheney’s (1983) framework. These Criteria for Addition will distinguish legitimate candidates from the others so that not every novel message or presentation method in a newsletter would automatically give rise to a new strategy or tactic. The Criteria for Addition have been used in the study to justify, with evidence from The MTR Express, the addition of the “employee voice” strategy and several tactics to Cheney’s (1983) framework. These new entries show that modifications and additions to Cheney’s (1983) framework are not only possible but also useful to reflect an organization’s persuasive efforts. Proposals to add new tactics in four past studies by other researchers have also been evaluated. No previous research has been conducted on employee newsletters in Hong Kong under Cheney’s (1983) framework. This study will raise organizations’ interest in employee newsletters as well as employees’ and outsiders’ awareness of their purposes. It is also the first comprehensive study of an organization’s newsletter, using all ten editions of MTR’s Newsletter published in 2007 and all the articles in those editions without sampling, enabling a full analysis of the identification-inducement strategies and tactics used. This study illustrates that content analysis can be a versatile tool in the study of newsletters and other materials and that simple EXCEL worksheets can be used to expand its usefulness. It also illustrates that content analysis is not always a quantitative procedure as a significant amount of qualitative work has been involved in the study. Finally, the author advocates a balance between organizational control and employee autonomy and between uniformity and diversity, to nurture an organization’s adaptability to change, which is vital for organizational survival and excellence.

The main objective of this research is to evaluate the socio economic impact of the development programs like MGNREGA, JnNURM and development of Roads project, on the intended target area. The entire thesis can be divided in to two parts; (1) developing method to evaluate the socio economic impact assessment and (2) case studies. Two different techniques were used to evaluate the change in the productivity. Initially the change is measure by calculating the difference in the efficiencies between two time period using base period and current period production technologies. To illustrate this method a case study of MGNREGA has been considered to evaluate the impact of seventeen districts of the country. From the results it is found that there is difficult in comparing the two efficiencies due to the scaling issue of two production technologies. Further Data Envelopment Analysis is used to evaluate the distance function in the calculation of Malmquist index (MI). MI gives the productivity change between two time periods and is calculated as the geometric mean of two ratios measured with reference to the time period and time period respectively. A new approach is presented by interpreting the two ratios of MI separately using the distance functions to identify the productivity change between two time periods. Three different regions were identified to determine the productivity change; improvement region which observe improvement in the productivity between two time periods, deterioration region which indicate deterioration in the productivity and status quo region suggesting the stagnation region. Two case studies i.e. Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and development of roads under the name “5054-Decongestion of Roads project” were considered. The impact of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) funds on the performance of Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is studied using the proposed method. The results suggest that for 50 percent of the overall productivity have improved due to the intervention. The deterioration is mainly because of the addition input surplus in terms of number of buses and output slack in terms of reduced load factor, effective distance travelled, operational costs and increase in number of breakdown and accident rates for these DMU’s. The socio economic impact of the roads developed by Government of Karnataka under the name of “5054-Decongestion of Roads project” in and around Bangalore was also studied using this method and the results shows that out of five DMU’s four DMU’s show improvement in the productivity.
