Texto completoThe literary translator in Iran is the key link in the chain of translation that contributes to the creation and development of new forms and themes in national literature. For the most part, it is the translator who begins the process of producing a translation by selecting the source text. However, this choice is not insignificant: it is affected by the whole trajectory of the translator's social life, his habitus according to Bourdieu and his horizon according to Berman; it is subject to the position occupied by the translator, and depends on the level of his symbolic, social, and economic capital which the previous expression of his standpoints, in this case his translations, have accumulated. Once the source text has been selected, the choice of the translation strategy follows the same pattern. It is the habitus and the position of the translator, which can orient him towards a particular technique or approach. Furthermore, the aim of the translator is important: does he/she want to earn money or recognition from his/her peers? Does he/she choose to subvert the established rules or to respect them in his/her translation? By analyzing the case of (re)translations into Persian of Albert Camus' Caligula, using a multidisciplinary approach at the crossroads of sociology and translation studies, the present study attempts to provide an overview of the field of literary translation in Iran and to identify the role of the agents who play an active role in it such as the translator, the publisher, the controlling authorities and agencies such as cultural ministries and academies, as well as the booksellers whose influence on the reception of (re)translations has often been ignored in translation studies of the Iranian context
Yousefi, Behzadi Majid. "Mohammad-Ali Djamalzadeh et la littérature européenne". Toulouse 2, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003TOU20033.
Texto completoThe aim of this thesis is to study the influence of European literature on the works of Mohammad-Ali Djamalzadeh and especially on "Il était une fois" (Yeki bud yeki nabud) whose unique success in 1921 left a lasting mark on Iranian society. From that date, Iranian literature opened up to western culture and entered modernity. Romantism and Realism are extremely tools to identify the origins of western influence on Djamalzadeh. A comparative study between "La visite de minuit" and "Atala" by Chateaubriand on the one hand and "Le vagabond" by Guy de Maupassant and "Le persan est du sucre" and "La dernière classe" by Alphonse Daudet on the other hand is therefore quite relevant. Djamalzadeh's attempt to reconcile the Iranian mindset with European literature is linked to the development of a new simpler style of writing. Indeed "L'humaine tragédie" and "Putois" by Anatole France were discovered by Iranian readers as adaptations or free translations. Classicism also influenced Djamalzadeh deeply either through the moral inspiration of classical writers, or through the choice of social themes. "L'avare" by Molière and Schiller's plays have been translated into Iranian within the framework of an educational project. Modern Iranian literature then gives a voice to European literature, thanks to Djamalzadeh. This thesis is made up of three parts whose main aim is to stress to what extent European literature has influenced Djamalzadeh's literary creativity

Texto completoWhen confronted with a centuries' old practice, it is futile to propose a theory claiming this same practice is impossible. Translation is possible, but it nevertheless has its limits. These are found both in the process and in the product of translation. For the former, they are called limits to translation, and are found in the comprehension stage of the source text, with, for example, unintentional ambiguity of syntax and discourse, intentional lexical ambiguity with puns, coordinated redundancies, neologisms etc. They may be linguistic in nature, as those we have mentioned above, but also cultural – for example sociolects, proper names, various cultural items etc. These obstacles force the translator to use all his resourcefulness. Arriving at a translation demands a considerable effort. The second type of limits are called the limits of translation. The product, the target text, goes beyond the actual framework of the translation. These limits may take different forms – explicitation, creation, adaptation, etc. , for instance – and are seen in re-writing, or even in post-translation adjustments. It can be seen, then, that this concept of limits provides an excellent methodological tool for taking translation as a continuum, where the different stages (comprehension – conceptualisation – rephrasing) intertwine. It thus serves a useful purpose with regard to theory, separating it from, and putting into perspective, certain of its radical positions. For indeed, translation is a complex activity which can no longer be the centre of black-and-white oppositions and fruitless empirical discussion. Thus the notion of limits gives a new perspective on translation, refining our perception of it, and heralding the birth of new ideas on translation which move away from traditional, linguistically saturated concepts such as fidelity
Lefebvre-Scodeller, Cindy. "La présence du traducteur : traduction littéraire anglais-français". Thesis, Artois, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009ARTO0001.
Texto completoOur thesis examines various aspects of the translator's presence in literary translations from English into French. Our study starts with an overview of translation approaches and theories from antiquity to the present, with particular focus on the translator's presence. We then concentrate on literary translators’ relationships with the authors (and texts) they translate. Translators' accounts often reveal mixed feelings of love, hate, desire and/or pleasure, so many strong feelings that are inherent in the translation process. We go on to discuss three specific cases of translator/author relationships. A study of the various traces that translators leave in their translations (both visible and invisible) introduces our corpus-based study. In this part, the role of the translator as negotiator between languages and cultures is analysed through the translations of H. Fielding's Bridget Jones and J. Austen's six novels: the translators' choices, ranging from visibility to invisibility, are examined in depth. The analysis of Austen's translations is an opportunity to look into the problem of translations by multiple authors and their impact on the perceived unity of the works. A diachronic study of the translations of Pride and Prejudice shows that retranslation is the place par excellence where the translator's presence is most apparent. Our final chapter is devoted to the treatment of several features of V. Woolf's style in the two translations of The Waves by French writers M. Yourcenar and C. Wajsbrot. The translator's presence constitutes an integral part of literary translation, and determines the way foreign literature is received

Texto completoIn this thesis, it is question to describe, by a macro-sociolinguistic approach, the sociolinguistic situation of the Turkish Azeri in contact in Iran. The indications gotten on the attitudes of the potential Turcophones demonstrate the phenomenon of change of maternal language and substitution of the official language. Given them on the knowledge of the languages reveal the tendency of the abandonment of the transmission of the maternal language to the profit of the official language. Finally, the practices of the maternal language illustrate the regression of this one at a time in spheres public, official and private. All indications are therefore in the sense of a description of the situation, as contradictory latent, where this regional language is reduced and declined by the official language

Texto completoThe constitution of this work stems from our translation experience. Specifically, its starting point is our translation in Bulgarian of a collection of extracts from A la recherche du temps perdu by Marcel Proust. In a broader sense, the practitioner that we are turned to the theory in order to clarify and thereby improve his practice. The theoretical part of this work is devoted to reflection on translation in general and on our practice in particular. At first we examine some fundamental theoretical problems. Their presentation revolves around two main themes: the question of literalism and the relation between theory and practice. We tackle these issues through the consideration of three différent perspectives: metaphysics of translation, poetic of translation and translating science. Secondly, we ondine the elements of our specific experience. The presentation of preparatory work is followed by analysis of our translation. This analysis aims to identify the transposition of the systematic nature of the proustian text and to compare our translation choices with those made by the Bulgarian translaters of the existing versions. Translation theory and practice are in a mutual lighting. Analyzing his own practice using theoretical tools is an extremely useful experience. The accumulation of data derived from translators' introspection serves as basis for theoretical studies on the translation
