Resumen
Here, we demonstrate the impact of ferromagnetic layer coating on controlling the magneto-optical response. We found that the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) signal and TMOKE hysteresis loops of Ni80Fe20 thin layers coated with a Cr layer show a strong dependence on the thickness of the Cr layer and the incidence angle of the light. The transmission and reflection spectra were measured over a range of incidence angles and with different wavelengths so as to determine the layers’ optical parameters and to explain the TMOKE behavior. The generalized magneto-optical and ellipsometry (GMOE) model based on modified Abeles characteristic matrices was used to examine the agreement between the experimental and theoretical results. A comprehensive theoretical and experimental analysis reveals the possibility to create a TMOKE suppression/enhancement coating at specific controllable incidence angles. This has potential for applications in optical microscopy and sensors.

Resumen
We demonstrate experimentally that a one-dimensional array of silicon nanowires periodically placed on a nickel substrate enhances the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) compared to a nickel film. The enhancement mechanism is associated with the excitation of two types of resonances: multipole Mie resonances in each nanowire and surface lattice resonances (SLRs) emerging from the periodic arrangement of the nanowires. The maximal TMOKE values reached up to 1.9 % and 2.6 % due to the excitation of SLR and a magnetic dipole resonance, respectively. When the SLR is excited, the spectral width of the TMOKE enhancement is narrower compared to the case of the magnetic dipole resonance.

Resumen
Abstract We demonstrated the sensitivity enhancement for magneto-optical surface plasmon resonance (MOSPR) using noble/ferromagnetic metals multilayers. The proposed structure is based on the Kretschmann configuration in the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) methods with the FeCu superlattices (SLs) as magneto-plasmonic materials and gelatin as biomolecules analyte. The dielectric constants of the FeCu SLs are taken from first principles calculation, which is performed by using a full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (FLAPW) method. The important role of the hybridization process in optical transitions has been identified, and it can be modulated by adjusting the thickness of superlattices. The dependence of the reflectivity on the dielectric constant is performed by 4×4 transfer matrix methods. It is found that the minimum reflectivity directly influences the slope of angular spectra, with a maximum slope of TMOKE signal is 12.23/degree. The change in the gelatin’s refractive index results in TMOKE signal response, then the enhancement of the sensitivity of the MOSPR system can be shown.

Resumen
We study how to enhance the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) of ultra-thin magnetic dielectric films through the excitation of strong magnetic resonances on metasurface with a metal nanowire array stacked above a metal substrate with an ultra-thin magnetic dielectric film spacer. The plasmonic hybridizations between the Au nanowires and substrate result in magnetic resonances. The periodic arrangement of the Au nanowires can excite propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) on the metal surface. When the SPPs and the magnetic resonances hybridize, they can strongly couple to form two strong magnetic resonances, which are explained by a coupled oscillator model. Importantly, benefitting from the strong magnetic resonances, we can achieve a large TMOKE signal up to 26% in the ultra-thin magnetic dielectric film with a thickness of only 30 nm, which may find potential applications in nanophotonics, magnonics, and spintronics.

Resumen
We demonstrate a concept for the giant enhancement of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) using bulk plasmon polariton (BPP) modes in non-magnetic multilayer hyperbolic metamaterials (HMMs). Since the BPP modes are excited through the attenuated total reflection (ATR) mechanism, using a Si-based prism-coupler, we considered a single dielectric magneto-optical (MO) spacer between the prism and the HMM. The working wavelength was estimated, using the effective medium approach for a semi-infinite dielectric-plasmonic multilayer, considering the region where the system exhibits type II HMM dispersion relations. Analytical results, by means of the scattering matrix method (SMM), were used to explain the physical principle behind our concept. Numerical results for giant TMOKE values (close to their maximum theoretical values, ±1) were obtained using the finite element method (FEM), applying the commercial software COMSOL Multiphysics. Our proposal comprises a simple and experimentally feasible structure that enables the study of MO phenomena in HMMs, which may find application in future nanostructured magnetoplasmonic metamaterials for active nanophotonic devices.

Abstract Resonant optical properties of the magnetoplasmonic crystals, which support propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) accompanied by magnetooptical effects, have found success in magnetic field driven control of optical radiation. In this work we investigate the resonant magnetooptical effects in the second harmonic generation in the magnetoplasmonic crystal formed by gold/pemalloy bifilm covering dielectric grating. Strong transverse magnetooptical Kerr with the contrast up to 30% is revealed in the spectral vicinity of the SPP excitation.

Resumen
AbstractMagneto-optical spectroscopy based on the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) is a sensitive method for investigating magnetically-ordered media. Previous studies were limited to the weak coupling regime where the spectral width of optical transitions considerably exceeded the Zeeman splitting in magnetic field. Here, we investigate experimentally and theoretically the transverse Kerr effect in the vicinity of comparatively narrow optical resonances in confined quantum systems. For experimental demonstration we studied the ground-state exciton resonance in a (Cd,Mn)Te diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum well, for which the strong exchange interaction with magnetic ions leads to giant Zeeman splitting of exciton spin states. For low magnetic fields in the weak coupling regime, the Kerr effect magnitude grows linearly with increasing Zeeman splitting showing a dispersive S-shaped spectrum, which remains almost unchanged in this range. For large magnetic fields in the strong coupling regime, the magnitude saturates, whereas the spectrum becomes strongly modified by the appearance of two separate peaks. TMOKE is sensitive not only to the sample surface but can also be used to probe in detail the confined electronic states in buried nanostructures if their capping layer is sufficiently transparent.

Resumen
By correlating time- and angle-resolved photoemission (Tr-ARPES) and time-resolved transverse- magneto-optical Kerr effect (Tr-TMOKE) measurements, both at extreme ultraviolet (EUV) wavelengths, we uncover the nature of the ultrafast photoinduced magnetic phase transition in Ni. This allows us to explain the ultrafast magnetic response of Ni at all laser fluences - from a small reduction of the magnetization at low laser fluences, to complete quenching at high laser fluences. We provide an alternative explanation to the fluence-dependent recovery timescales commonly observed in ultrafast magneto-optical spectroscopies on ferromagnets: it is due to the bulk-averaging effect and different depths of sample exhibit distinct dynamics, depending on whether a magnetic phase transition is induced. We also show evidence of two competing channels with two distinct timescales in the recovery process, that suggest the presence of coexisting phases in the material.

Resumen
Magnetoplasmonic permittivity-near-zero (ε-near-zero) nanostructures hold promise for novel highly integrated (bio)sensing devices. These platforms merge the high-resolution sensing from the magnetoplasmonic approach with the ε-near-zero-based light-to-plasmon coupling (instead of conventional gratings or bulky prism couplers), providing a way for sensing devices with higher miniaturization levels. However, the applications are mostly hindered by tedious and time-consuming numerical analyses, due to the lack of an analytical relation for the phase-matching condition. There is, therefore, a need to develop mechanisms that enable the exploitation of magnetoplasmonic ε-near-zero nanostructures’ capabilities. In this work, we developed a genetic algorithm (GA) for the rapid design (in a few minutes) of magnetoplasmonic nanostructures with optimized TMOKE (transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect) signals and magnetoplasmonic sensing. Importantly, to illustrate the power and simplicity of our approach, we designed a magnetoplasmonic ε-near-zero sensing platform with a sensitivity higher than 56∘/RIU and a figure of merit in the order of 102. These last results, higher than any previous magnetoplasmonic ε-near-zero sensing approach, were obtained by the GA intelligent program in times ranging from 2 to 5 min (using a simple inexpensive dual-core CPU computer).

AbstractFeeding resulted in immediate upward shifts of between 0.62 and 3.00 K in the mean set points at which basking started and ceased (Tbask and Tmove) in P. muralis allowed to thermoregulate beneath tungsten bulbs giving three different levels of radiant heat, except for Tmove in lizards at the highest level (70 mW cm-2 measured in the range 8 000-14 000 nm). Mean bask durations decreased following feeding, but mean forage durations also decreased and the overall times spent basking increased. Values for all four variables declined gradually, returning to pre-feeding levels after 30-50 min. Feeding had no effect on mean heating rates. Feeding in Lacerta vivipara also resulted in increases in set point temperatures, but mean bask durations increased following feeding in this species.

Resumen
In the past 10 years, under the common problems of unemployment of people with a higher education and the devaluation of diplomas, the concepts and practices of higher education governance have emerged and have gradually been embedded in university operations. Higher education in Taiwan faces the same problems as the rest of the world. Thus, guided by policies of the Taiwanese Ministry of Education (TMOE) and fuelled by the media, the education-job gap is becoming a discursive truth. With this background, the TMOE has invested numerous resources to establish an information system (IS) that attempts to guide the direction of university education using information technology. If the IS is poorly designed, the scope of its side effects and harm will be magnified by a massive number of IS users and the characteristics of procedure standardisation. We suggest another form of action — IS competition, in which more positive social changes can be created. Based on the analysis of the available data, the action of IS competition does have a positive impact on society.

In this study, the rice husk flour-plastic waste composites (RPC) was produced from polypropylene (PP) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) wastes with 30 and 50% rice husk flour (RHF) contents. RPC was made by melt compounding and compression moulding processes. The electrical resistivity, thermal stability and tensile strength of RPC were determined. The RPC was tested in electrical resistivity and tensile strength according to the ASTM D-257 and ASTM D-638 respectively, while thermal stability was tested using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) method. From the results, high content of RHF reduces all properties, except for tensile modulus of elasticity (TMOE) in tensile strength test. The ability of moisture absorption and the presence of hemicelluloses, cellulose and silica in RHF reduce the electrical resistivity and thermal stability behaviour of RPC from 50% RHF. The good binding elements and filler agglomeration in RPC from 50% RHF improve only TMOE. Insufficient stress transfer and rigid interphase occurred between RHF and plastics during tensile maximum load and elongation at break (Eb) in tensile strength test. In general, RPC from HDPE indicates better thermal stability, tensile modulus ofrupture and Eb (in tensile strength test) compared to PP, based on the good behaviour of thermal conductivity, low water absorption, high molecular weight and good elongation properties of HDPE. However, RPC from PP shows good electrical resistance due to the low thermal expansion coefficient of PP.

Resumen
To challenge the Taiwan Ministry of Education's (TMOE) dominant enforcement of a person-environment fit model, the Chinese Career Research Center incorporated yin-yang alternation principles from the Classic of Changes (I Ching, Yi Jing or 易經) to develop the model of career development touching the sky yet grounded (TSG) and corresponding practice guidelines, a career website (CCN), and four career service projects. Using Lewin's (1946) cyclical-spiral process of action research, CCN and TSG service projects were promoted to complement the TMOE's fit model, and feedback was utilised to revise our TSG model and its applications. Yin-yang alternation principles and the four stages of chien (the creative) from the Classic of Changes were applied to develop social action strategies. Social change was indicated by counsellors’ and students’ changes in their career views, as well as the TMOE's direct financial support for TSG service projects. This progress is encouraging for whoever is interested in developing culture-inclusive indigenous psychology with practical outcomes.

Resumen
Time synchronization is a crucial component in wireless sensor networks (WSN), especially for location-aware applications. The precision of time-based localization algorithms is closely related to the accuracy of synchronization. The estimation of synchronization errors in most of the existing time synchronization algorithms is based on some statistical distribution models. However, these models may not be able to accurately describe the synchronization errors due to the uncertainties in clock drift and message delivery delay in synchronization. Considering that the synchronization errors are highly temporally correlated (short-term correlation), in this paper, we present an adaptive linear prediction synchronization (ALPS) scheme for WSN. By applying linear prediction on synchronization errors and adaptively adjusting prediction coefficients based on the difference between the estimated values and the real values, ALPS enhances synchronization accuracy at a relatively low cost. ALPS has been implemented on the Tmote-sky platform. As experiment results demonstrate, compared with RBS and TPSN, ALPS cuts synchronization cost by almost 50% while achieving the same accuracy; compared with DMTS and PulseSync, ALPS reduces the MSE (mean square error) of synchronization errors by 41% and 24%, respectively, with the same cost.

The total magnetic field data processing is done with several correction, namely diurnal correction, IGRF, reduce to equator, upward continuation at an altitude of 2000 m, and reduce to pole, and 2D modelling using the forward modelling method. The result of the analysis obtained magnetic field anomaly values in the range of values -400 to 950 nT. The 2D modelling shows that the research area is composed of 4 dominating rock types, namely andesite rock with a susceptibility value of 94 x 10-3, andesite breccia rock with a susceptibility value of 29 x 10-3, clay rock with a susceptibility value of 0,013 x 10-3, and sandstone with a susceptibility value of 5 x 10-3. The identification result show the existence of faults line on Mount Watuaglik, Mount Kamal, and Mount Bodag.

Resumen
In this paper, the communication reliability of a 2.4 GHz multi-hop wireless sensor network (WSN) in various test scenarios is evaluated through experiments. First, we implement an autonomous communication procedure for a multi-hop WSN on Tmote sky sensor nodes; 2.4 GHz, an IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Here, all nodes including a transmitter node (Tx), forwarder nodes (Fw), and a base station node (BS) can automatically work for transmitting and receiving data. The experiments have been tested in different scenarios including: i) in a room, ii) line-of-sight (LoS) communications on the 2nd floor of a building, iii) LoS and non-line-of-sight (NLoS) communications on the 1st floor to the 2nd floor, iv) LoS and NLoS communications from outdoor to the 1st and the 2nd floors of the building. The experimental results demonstrate that the communication reliability indicated by the packet delivery ratio (PDR) can vary from 99.89% in the case of i) to 14.40% in the case of iv), respectively. Here, the experiments reveal that multi-hop wireless commutations for outdoor to indoor with different floors and NLoS largely affect the PDR results, where the PDR more decreases from the best case (i.e., the case of a)) by 85.49%. Our research methodology and findings can be useful for users and researchers to carefully consider and deploy an efficient 2.4 GHz multi-hop WSN in their works, since different WSN applications require different communication reliability level.

Resumen
This paper examines the phenomena of the local government’s inadequate reaction to the national programme of geographical infrastructure for the effective sharing of spatial data in Malaysia. We investigate the determinants of sharing data for Malaysia’s spatial data infrastructure (SDI) and aim to define the model for spatial data-sharing of Malaysia’s local SDI. The main contribution of this paper is an explanation of the novel methodology to study factors that affect spatial data sharing including a new qualitative analysis method through an interview with people concerned in this field, including engineers, technicians and academics, which was undertaken in Kuala Lumpur, and a new methodology to identify the necessary approach that affects spatial data sharing. An interview and a questionnaire were used in this study as part of a sequential exploratory approach. Among land use, Plan Malaysia, and Telekom Malaysia Berhad TMOne, 15 participants were interviewed in-depth to obtain their responses, and 83 individuals took part in the survey questionnaires. Interview data were measured by content analysis, while questionnaire data were measured by partial least squares analysis. In the structural model analysis, Smart PLS was used to choose the fit items based on validity and reliability measurements. According to the hypothesis measurement, technology and organisation both significantly affect the practice of spatial data sharing, but human resources and spatial data do not significantly affect it. All R-Squared values represent a value above 56 per cent for the human resource aspect, technology aspect and spatial data aspect. However, the R-Square value for spatial data sharing is 47%. Spatial data and human resources have a less substantial impact on spatial data sharing; hence, this study proposes a national awareness programme and mentoring to improve local SDI support for spatial data sharing.

Resumen
ABSTRACTThe nucleotide-based second messenger bis-(3′-5′)-cyclic dimeric GMP (c-di-GMP) is involved in regulating a plethora of processes in bacteria that are typically associated with lifestyle changes.Myxococcus xanthusundergoes major lifestyle changes in response to nutrient availability, with the formation of spreading colonies in the presence of nutrients and spore-filled fruiting bodies in the absence of nutrients. Here, we investigated the function of c-di-GMP inM. xanthusand show that this bacterium synthesizes c-di-GMP during growth. Manipulation of the c-di-GMP level by expression of either an active, heterologous diguanylate cyclase or an active, heterologous phosphodiesterase correlated with defects in type IV pilus (T4P)-dependent motility, whereas gliding motility was unaffected. An increased level of c-di-GMP correlated with reduced transcription of thepilAgene (which encodes the major pilin of T4P), reduced the assembly of T4P, and altered cell agglutination, whereas a decreased c-di-GMP level correlated with altered cell agglutination. The systematic inactivation of the 24 genes inM. xanthusencoding proteins containing GGDEF, EAL, or HD-GYP domains, which are associated with c-di-GMP synthesis, degradation, or binding, identified three genes encoding proteins important for T4P-dependent motility, whereas all mutants had normal gliding motility. Purified DmxA had diguanylate cyclase activity, whereas the hybrid histidine protein kinases TmoK and SgmT, each of which contains a GGDEF domain, did not have diguanylate cyclase activity. These results demonstrate that c-di-GMP is important for T4P-dependent motility inM. xanthus.IMPORTANCEWe provide the first direct evidence thatM. xanthussynthesizes c-di-GMP and demonstrate that c-di-GMP is important for T4P-dependent motility, whereas we did not obtain evidence that c-di-GMP regulates gliding motility. The data presented uncovered a novel mechanism for regulation of T4P-dependent motility, in which increased levels of c-di-GMP inhibit transcription of thepilAgene (which encodes the major pilin of T4P), ultimately resulting in the reduced assembly of T4P. Moreover, we identified an enzymatically active diguanylate cyclase that is important for T4P-dependent motility.

Resumen
AbstractTransverse magneto‐optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) has attracted much attention due to its widespread application in nonreciprocal photon and sensing devices. The vast majority of studies related to TMOKE are mainly focused on p‐polarized incidence as a result of the stereotype that only p‐polarized incidence can generate TMOKE in conventional magnetic materials. Thanks to the powerful ability of metamaterials to regulate light, in recent years, the TMOKE under s‐polarized incidence is explored and observed successfully. Nevertheless, different from the universality and high amplitude of p‐polarized TMOKE, the excitation of s‐polarized TMOKE is pretty rare, and the peak values of s‐polarized TMOKE in the reported research are really weak, which limits its application potential to a large extent. Here, the iron‐based grating structure is proposed that excites surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and then causes the highest peak value of s‐polarized TMOKE at optical frequencies to date, which is seven orders of magnitude higher than that of the planar Fe film. Besides, its refractive index sensitivity reaches up to 685 nm RIU−1. The work broadens the design path of s‐polarized TMOKE as a promising candidate to promote the development of novel magnetoplasmonic sensors and nonreciprocal photon devices.

Resumen
AbstractNovel magneto‐optical (MO) properties can be actualized through well‐designed nanostructures, greatly improving the application value of MO effects. As only p‐polarized light can generate transverse magneto‐optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) in traditional MO materials, it is quite challenging and valuable to effectuate TMOKE under s‐polarization incidence at optical frequencies. The constructed nanopillar structures in this work can realize a clear TMOKE under both s‐polarization and p‐polarization incidences, as proved by experiments and simulations. Under s‐polarized incident light with an elevation angle of 45°, electric dipole resonance (EDR) and electric quadrupole resonance (EQR) are excited, resulting in the significant enhancement of TMOKE (five orders of magnitude higher than for the planar Co film). The intensity of s‐polarized TMOKE shows an increase with the enhancing diameter and height of the nanopillar structure. The amplitude of p‐polarized TMOKE is also appreciably increased due to the excitation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and localized surface plasmons (LSPs). Moreover, the Fe and Ni nanopillars display similar reflectivity and s‐polarized TMOKE behaviors in simulations. The s‐polarized TMOKE is unexpectedly observed in ferromagnetic metals for the first time, which builds up a considerable platform for the development and application of novel MO phenomena.

Resumen
Tailoring of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) in hybrid metasurfaces comprising rectangular silicon nanowires coupled with a nickel substrate is demonstrated. The excitation of Mie modes of different orders in nanowires causes TMOKE enhancement. The in-plane magnetic dipole mode leads to the largest TMOKE enhancement compared to other Mie modes. Changing the width of silicon nanowires entails a modification of that mode, thereby ensuring tailoring of the TMOKE within the range of 2.2%–3.8%. This tunability is associated with the modification of the near-field localized at the Si/Ni interface and the far-field response of the excited magnetic dipole mode. Adjusting these two quantities allows one to achieve the highest values of the TMOKE caused by individual Mie modes in silicon nanowires.

Resumen
Abstract Herein, a novel structure composed of an all-magneto-optical periodic grating, without using noble metals, is presented to enhance the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE). This is done by calculating the relative changes in the reflection amplitudes for the p-polarized wave using the finite element method (FEM) with COMSOL Multiphysics. Bio-sensing applications of the proposed structure can be possible by detecting alternation in the refractive index of the analyte medium through monitoring of the TMOKE. The simultaneous operation of the magneto-optic layer as a sensing layer is the advantage of our idea, where direct interaction with the analyte happens, leading to the suppression of the wave reflection amplitudes, and finally leading to extreme TMOKE in a magneto-optical (MO) grating (the TMOKE amplitudes are near 0.8 in this work). And since TMOKE shows a Fano-like shape, we calculate sensitivity and figure of merit (FoM) by fitting them together. This results in high sensitivity, and the value of the FoM is remarkable (between 2×10^3 and 3×10^3 refractive index unit) at resonance angles for different refractive indices, which makes our proposed structure able to be utilized for bio-sensing applications.

Resumen
AbstractTwo conventional magneto-plasmonic (MP) structures are firstly superimposed with mirror symmetry to form a symmetric MP heterostructure. These two MP components are separated from each other by a noble metallic layer. The unique feature of this novel heterostructure is that both magneto-plasmon modes of the up and down MP portions can be coupled as the spacer becomes thinner. This intertwining effect leads to appearance of a new peak in the angular transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) curve of the heterostructure. This new peak which is reported for the first time in the TMOKE signal, is generally similar to plasmon induced transparency (PIT) phenomenon observed in plasmonic multilayered structures. We entitle this novel effect as “second resonance of TMOKE signal”. More importantly, the occurrence angle and magnitude of the second peak can be controlled by varying the thickness and material of separating layer between two MP parts. Also, the dispersion diagram of the heterostructure shows this coupling so that two branches convert into four branches by reducing the thickness of spacer. Furthermore, coupled oscillators model confirms emergence of the second peak in the TMOKE signal. These results can offer great promise for increasing sensitivity of conventional magneto-optical refractive index sensors.

Resumen
Nanostructures possessing plasmonic and magnetic properties can enhance the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) by exciting surface plasmon resonances (SPRs). This provides a promising platform for magneto-optical SPR sensors with significantly improved sensing performance. Here, we propose a high-performance magneto-optical SPR sensor, which consists of a bilayer Au/Co grating placed on a gold film. By tuning the structural parameters, a Fano-like TMOKE spectrum with a linewidth of only 0.0135 nm and an amplitude approaching the theoretical maximum is obtained. We attribute the optimal TMOKE signal achieved by the sensor to the critical coupling concept which is associated with the trade-off between scattering and intrinsic decay rates of the system. The optimized nanostructure sensor demonstrates a sensitivity of 1432 nm/RIU to refractive index fluctuations as small as 0.0001 in air, and all figures of merit (FOM) up to 105 RIU−1, making it suitable for gas sensor fabrication.

Abstract In this study, the possibility of enhanced transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) and performance monitoring of a hybrid nanostructure developed by sandwiching a ferromagnetic film within a gold layer and square periodic nanorod arrays, is theoretically investigated. Based on the findings, the TMOKE signal can be enhanced approximately 33 times when compared to the referenced planar film, which is elucidated by the hybrid of modes in the magnetic film region. In addition, a high level of environmental sensor performance is simultaneously achieved by recording the wavelength resonance positions with the variation of refractive index, which is compatible with gaseous medium from 1 to 1.01, indicating that the structure of the proposal will have applications in environmental monitoring.

Resumen
Abstract Magneto-plasmon sensing structure based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and magneto-optical (MO) effect has become a hot research topic in recent years. In this work, we propose a magneto-plasmon crystal consisting of an Au/Co double-layer nanoporous structure with optically thick Au film as a substrate. Due to the excitation of high-quality SPR, a Fano-like transverse magneto-optical Kerr (TMOKE) spectrum with subnanometer bandwidth is realized. A sensitivity of up to 677 nm/RIU is detected under subtle refractive index changes in air, and all the calculated figure of merits (FOM) are higher than 104 RIU-1. In addition, in order to highlight the superiority of the sensing performance of the magneto-optical plasmon (MOSPR) sensor, we compare the MOSPR sensor with the SPR sensor and calculate their FOM in different refractive index environments. The results show that the FOM of the MOSPR sensor is two orders of magnitude higher than that of the SPR sensor, which proves that the performance of the MOSPR sensor is significantly better than that of the SPR sensor and provides a theoretical basis for biosensing and gas detection based on magneto plasmon.

Resumen
Abstract The present study proposes a theoretical design of the magneto-optical surface plasmon resonance (MOSPR) refractive index sensor that utilizes a magnetic field for modulating the dispersion of surface plasmon. This sensor based on the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) is constructed using a hybrid magneto-plasmonic film covered with an array of hexagonal periodic Au nanodisks. The structural parameters were optimized to obtain the Fano shape TMOKE response characterized by an extremely narrow bandwidth (0.00997°) and remarkably high amplitude (0.99). The excitation of the optimal surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and the resonance enhancement effect of multi-mode coupling enables us to achieve a surface sensitivity of 207.5 deg/RIU and a high figure of merit (FOM) of the order of 104 RIU−1, surpassing conventional SPR and MOSPR sensors by at least one order of magnitude. The present study offers a comprehensive guideline for the design of high-performance magneto-plasmonic sensors, facilitating instrument miniaturization and manufacturing cost reduction.

Resumen
Abstract In this study, we introduce a high-performance magneto-optical sensor that features enhanced amplitude and sensitivity, achieved through guided-mode resonance (GMR) excitations in an aluminum antimonide slab. This advancement is facilitated by a square, periodically arranged nanorod structure comprising dielectric materials. The electromagnetic field distributions were obtained along with the transmission spectra to elucidate the GMR mode in our proposed structure, thereby highlighting the enhancement of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) signal in the transmitted mode and the corresponding sensing performance. The findings demonstrate that the position of the TMOKE resonance is remarkably responsive to variations in the background refractive index, yielding in an impressive sensitivity of 188.7° per refractive index unit, coupled with a narrow linewidth owing to the inherent low loss of dielectric materials. This investigation lays the groundwork for novel advancements in linear optics, integrated optical circuits, and low-loss biosensing applications.

Resumen
Abstract In this work, an all-dielectric magneto-optical refractometric sensor was designed using two methods: simulation analysis and modeling. In this structure, bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet (Bi: YIG), lithium niobate (LiNbO3), and silicon oxide (SiO2) are used to construct the grating, the middle layer, and the output part of the sensor, respectively. A magnetic field in the z-direction generates the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) signal to activate the structure. In addition, an optical field of 630 nm is applied to the structure. The model was created based on the geometrical parameters, the direction of the magnetic field, and the refractive index. The best-fit response was obtained by sweeping the period and refractive index of the analyte so that the output signals have an almost complete overlap with the response from the simulation. The change in refractive index leads to a shift of 0.4° in TMOKE, which is consistent with the simulation results. The time required for the analysis in the model by the system with CORE i7 (8 core) CPU and 32 GB RAM was a maximum of 30 seconds, while more than 1800 seconds were spent on the simulation.

Resumen
AbstractHere, we demonstrate the enhancement of the transverse magneto-optical Kerr effect (TMOKE) signal, due to surface plasmon resonance in the Otto configuration, where the low index dielectric has a variable thickness. This constitutes a demonstration that, in principle, a separation of the magnetic sample from the plasmonic device and the modulation of the plasmon resonance with an enhancement of the MOKE signal is possible. We have achieved this by using air as a low index dielectric where the evanescent wave extends, preceding to excitation of surface plasmons. The magnetic sample under consideration is a thin layer of cobalt coated by an ultrathin silver layer, on a silicon substrate (Ag/Co/Si). The sample is brought close enough to the prism/air interface, allowing surface plasmon excitation in the air/Ag interface. This leads to an increase of the TMOKE signal up to ~ 2 ‰ with respect to the incident light. This is about 7 times the traditional MOKE signal in the absence of plasmons. This is comparable with previous works using the Kretschmann-Raether configuration. Furthermore, the fact that the plasmon field generated at the metal-air interface substitutes the laser light used in traditional MOKE allows new functionalities such as controlling the penetration depth of the plasmonic field into the sample. This should find applications in magnetometry and related technology.
