AbstractThis work describes the lives of the migrants' families of Machineri people, highlighting specifically the migrations’ network, the borders and the territories. We intentionally show how the migrated indigenous families were obligated to constitute and build new characteristics of survival in the occidental world, as well as new territorialities in different territories in new zones and categories and divide themselves into unknown and invisible places. Therefore, the main goal has been the comprehension of how the migration circle has been perpetuated, their many territorialities in triple border, as well as their regress to their villages, their hometown. This way, the indigenous migrations are showed in two manners, the circle ones and the linear ones. The circle ones happen when the families leave their village and return later; the linear ones happen when the families leave their village, and they do not return, but they still have parents and relationship in their hometown. These two kinds of migration are the most basics to the comprehension of what is indigenous mobility, obligated or free. What we should take in consideration it is the time of migration, the fact and the family history. The intention in this occasion is to guarantee the voices of the interviewed ones during the whole process of writing and comprehension of the article. Machineri people live in the Department of Pando (BOL), Department of Madre Dios (PE) and in the Brazilian city of Assis Brasil, State of Acre, in Mamoadate’s Land, Cabeceira do Acre’s land and Seringal Guanabara, and other locations in the urban zone in the three countries. As a methodological practice, we took the oral history, the interviews and the life experience of each interviewee; this way, we participated in their daily lives and the realities of their survival. This work aims to write in about the indigenous migration, indigenous borders and indigenous territories in the discussions of contemporary Geography as a way of contributing to new discussions inside and outside the academy, only this way we can have an intercultural discussion in the academy and to all society. Thereby, we take in consideration that the studies of indigenous questions need with urgency gain spotlight in the actual conjecture of political geography, as so that their indigenous lands are always fighting when it is related to the exploration of natural resources. This scene shows us how much these people are always fighting to guarantee their way of living and their traditional land, as so that today they suffer from a regression of the accomplishment and rights of indigenous people. It is necessary to study the migration of indigenous people inside the geography as a way of approaching this occidental science in fundamental questions and world views; thereby we contribute with a dialogue to equitable geography. Keywords: Manchineri people, migrations, borders, territories.

Resumen
Not all parents across England are happy about sending their children back to school, following the lifting of lockdown measures in March 2021. Our qualitative research, listening to accounts from eighty-five such families, finds that these concerns stem from Covid-related anxiety, most commonly linked to protecting members of the household at greater risk of severe illness. The experiences of these parents resisting the return to school sheds light on the fragmented nature of our education system – the uneven, haphazard practices across different schools – and how once again this differentially impacts certain students and their families. Particular difficulties for students with a special educational needs diagnosis (SEND), or those from multi-generational households, are underlined. Whilst some parents feel bullied into compliance, others are pressurised to deregister in a spate of what we term 'Covid off-rolling'. Several families have been able to fully embrace a permanent move to genuine home education, further raising criticisms of our competition-driven, performative, neoliberal education system with its narrow curriculum offer. A comprehensive education system with critical pedagogy at its heart is what is called for.

Resumen
The feeling of loneliness is a multiple phenomenon, that affects many sides of children’s wellbeing. In order to realize “Russian Child Wellbeing Index” project since  Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation has been collecting “children’s voices” – the survey data of children at the age - and their parents. This information allows us to talk about wellbeing from six points of view in the domains of education, health, material wellbeing, self-realization, security and social relations. Apart from main questions to indicate domain values, there are some supplementary questions, needed for better and wider understanding of wellbeing. One of them is “How often do you feel lonely?” in children’s questionnaire, and the same one in parents’ questionnaire. So, the report is based on the analysis of   children and their parents’ responses regarding the feeling of loneliness. The main outcome is that there is a stable connection between the regularity of the feeling of loneliness and general children wellbeing. Students, who often feel lonely also think that their classmates threaten them worse, they more frequently encountered with bulling, at home their parents scream at them more often, than in typical families and the number of scandals in their families is also bigger. The main risk factors for loneliness are identifi ed. They are the inability to be heard by parents and adults (to a lesser extent this applies to peers), as well as psychological or even physical violence against a child. Moreover, children’s loneliness relates with such parameters as overall life satisfaction, the presence of their own items and a room, the presence of bulling at school and some others. In comparison with children responses parents’ assessment often belittle the role of positive factors and exaggerate the role of negative features. Especially it is true for the question about relations between the child and family.

Resumen
The development of children’s digital literacy is essential in the st century. In a digital age, children have an access to various forms of digital tools in early years. Hence, investigating digital literacy of children at home environment has gained an increased attention among parents, early childhood educators, and educational researchers. This paper adopted a mixed research design to examine parents’ belief, practice, and communication with children through various digital tools in a home environment.  Chinese parents with children from - years completed a survey on their belief, practice, and communication with their children at home. Parent interview with  families further identifi ed the popular technologies used at home, the children’s digital literacy practice, and parents’ concerns about children’s use of digital technologies. The study shows that parents and children have been actively engaged in using various forms of digital technologies to play, learn and complete tasks. Furthermore, parents hold positive attitudes towards using digital technologies in a home environment. One of the important practical implications is to call for more tailored child and family programs to support parents in guiding their children to choose, use, and communicate through digital technologies in a more effective way.

Resumen
To clarify the characteristics of the infl uence of parents’ emotional and value orientations on the socialization of modern schoolchildren, a study was conducted. The analysis of the answers obtained in the course of anonymous questionnaire surveys of   students in grades - of general education schools from  regions and   parents from  regions of the Russian Federation, (surveys /) was carried out. The report analyzes answers to questions related to three indicators of life position: value orientations, emotional assessment of the success of one’s future prospects, assessment of the personal signifi cance of certain social threats. The infl uence of demographic (gender, age) and social stratifi cation factors (fullness of the family) is considered. As a result of a special factor analysis, three bipolar factors were identifi ed, explaining ,% of the total variance. Factor F “social recognition, doubt – social well-being, optimism” with the positive pole determined by values: the presence of close friends, the respect of others, an increase in the level of education, which correlate with doubts about one’s future success. At the negative pole the values of material well-being, a happy family life, a positive assessment of future prospects is found. Military confl icts and unemployment are mentioned among the main threats to the implementation of these orientations. Factor F is “self-realization, pessimism – physical well-being”. Here, the positive pole is determined by the values of creative and professional realization, self-reliance and independence. Such life attitudes are associated with pessimistic assessments of one’s success in life. The negative pole of the factor is represented by the value of physical well-being (“health”). Factor F is “the desire for spirituality – objective threats to existence”. Its positive pole is determined by the values of spiritual and physical intimacy with a loved one, an increase in the cultural level, correlated with the threats of extremism and the tightening of the regime in the country. The negative pole is determined by threats caused by natural phenomena like “epidemics”, etc. The features of parents and students subsamples, taking into account their marital status, gender and age in the space of factors F and F, are considered. It has been established that mothers and fathers from complete families are characterized by an orientation towards family and material well-being. Boys from complete families in the period of study, both in primary and in high school, have doubts about their social success. Girls from complete families studying in primary and high school experience not only doubts about social recognition but also about success in self-realization. A special position is occupied by mothers from single-parent families: they transmit pessimism in relation to their social success and self-realization to the child, which is also refl ected in the life position of high school students from single-parent families.

Resumen
At preschool age of children, parents have a crucial infl uence on their development. In this regard, the study of the issues of childhood digitalization determines the importance and relevance of their consideration in the context of family education. The purpose of the study was to study the parents’ attitude to the use of digital devices in the family in the development of senior preschoolers. Participants were presented by  pаrents and their children ( boys,  girls; Mage=., SD=.) from Moscow. Methods included survey of parents (with questions about both parents), Express- Diagnostics of Intellectual Abilities, and special technique for revealing the creative and intellectual potential, used for children. Results. The attitude of modern parents to the use of digital devices for development of older preschoolers is characterized by a variety of opinions. % of parents believe that interaction with a digital device is harmful to the health and development of the child. However, the majority of parents (%) positively assess its infl uence on the preschoolers’ development. Three groups of parents were divided according to the frequency of a digital device used by children: () rarely; () moderately; () often. The consensus of both parents was observed in .% of families, while in slightly less than half of them (.%) parents were in favor of rare interactions with digital devices. An analysis of the parents’ choice of digital content showed that they are mainly aimed at developing the child’s cognitive sphere by computer programs developing logical thinking (.%), memory (.%), etc. The diagnostics of children development showed the importance of the frequency of a digital device use for their intellectual development: it is higher in children of those parents who considered it better for preschoolers to use digital devices - times a week for developmental purposes.

Resumen
Families with children in Russia are at high risk of poverty. The economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the sanctions imposed in spring 2022 make social policy a priority. It is necessary to pay a stronger attention to groups of population at higher risk of poverty. In recent years the support for families with children has been strengthened and the circle of potential recipients of assistance expanded (raising the age of children, lifting restrictions on the type of family). Additional support measures provided to families with children to reduce the negative effects of the crisis helped to alleviate the severity of poverty but did not change the position of families with children on the welfare scale, they are still the largest group of the poor (according to Rosstat they make 80% of all poor households). It seems important to identify the main factors of poverty of families with children, which include, not least, the limited employment of parents. The main purpose of the study is to show, using the data of the statistical survey (HBS-2019), the scale of unemployment and its impact on families with children as well as gender characteristics of the phenomenon of unemployment. Financial assistance to families with children should be combined with work to activate the actions of families for self-sufficiency.

ObjectiveTo explore the barriers and facilitators to inhaled asthma treatment in adolescents with asthma.DesignQualitative analysis of posts about inhaler treatment in adolescents from an online forum for people with asthma. Analysis informed by the Perceptions and Practicalities Approach.ParticipantsFifty-four forum participants (39 adolescents ≥16 years, 5 parents of adolescents, 10 adults with asthma) identified using search terms ‘teenager inhaler’ and ‘adolescent inhaler’.SettingPosts from adolescents, parents and adults with asthma taking part in the Asthma UK online forum between 2006 and 2016, UK.ResultsPractical barriers reducing the ability to adhere included forgetfulness and poor routines, inadequate inhaler technique, organisational difficulties (such as repeat prescriptions), and families not understanding or accepting their child had asthma. Prompting and monitoring inhaler treatment by parents were described as helpful, with adolescents benefiting from self-monitoring, for example, by using charts logging adherence. Perceptions reducing the motivation to adhere included asthma representation as episodic rather than chronic condition with intermittent need of inhaler treatment. Adolescents and adults with asthma (but not parents) described concerns related to attributed side effects (eg, weight gain) and social stigma, resulting in ‘embarrassment of taking inhalers’. Facilitators to adherence included actively seeking general practitioners’/consultants’ adjustments if problems arose and learning to deal with the side effects and stigma. Parents were instrumental in creating a sense of responsibility for adherence.ConclusionsThis online forum reveals a rich and novel insight into adherence to asthma inhalers by adolescents. Interventions that prompt and monitor preventer inhaler use would be welcomed and hold potential. In clinical consultations, exploring parents’ beliefs about asthma diagnosis and their role in dealing with barriers to treatment might be beneficial. The social stigma of asthma and its role in adherence were prominent and continue to be underestimated, warranting further research and action to improve public awareness of asthma.

Resumen
The relevance of the problem of distant interaction with families raising children with mental disabilities is determined by the need to involve in the correctional and educational process a signifi cant number of children with the same rare diagnoses, keeping in mind that in a single town or village in the country there are usually a small number of such children, sometimes such cases are literally unique. The events of recent years connected with covid- and post-covid restrictions, along with the complicated political situation, have further highlighted the need for a rapid response to the educational needs of this category of families. The purpose of our study is to analyze the available experience in the organization of distant assistance and counselling for children with mental disabilities, to point out the strengths and weaknesses of the proposed forms of work in order to optimize the process of online classes with this category of children and parents. In our work we rely on the opinion of teachers who participated in our projects for children with disabilities, as well as on the opinion of the parental audience in our educational projects. Based on the identifi ed advantages and disadvantages of the main models of distant lessons and consultations, we propose a model of distant interaction with children and parents to optimize the corrective and developmental process organized in online format.

“Sharenting” is a usual habit for families in the digital age. While media outlets describe parents as inattentive and naïve about it, empirical data shows that many of them face digital dilemmas about this practice. Little is known, though, about the reflective practices parents engage in when trying to tackle these dilemmas. To fill this gap, this study explores how a parenting forum can work as an informal reflective and learning site where parents naturally discuss Social Media Dilemmas (SMDs) associated with sharenting. The contribution reports on findings from a thematic analysis of 1,626 posts from 47 discussion threads, where parents sought their peers’ advice and support to deal with these kinds of predicaments, lookingat how these naturally occurring conversations can help parents learn about and make sense of the new challenges posed by the evolving communication ecology in terms of governing their children’s digital footprints.

Resumen
Aims: The main objective of the study was to understand the issues of alcoholism and violence in the family. It discusses how alcoholism leads to family violence and further, derails the life of family members and put an institution of family into a crisis. Study Design: The study was based on fieldwork conducted in different parts of Punjab. Exploratory research design was prepared to understand the issue. Methodology: Sample of 100 families were selected for study and further, four members in each family namely, the alcoholic, spouse, one of the parents and one of the children were selected for the interview, so that an overall picture of family violence can be obtained. A total number of 303 respondents (100 alcoholics, 73 spouse, 68 children, and 62 parents) are interviewed. Semi-structured interview schedule used for data collection purpose. With the help of snowball technique, sampled families and their members are located and interviewed. Results: The study found 87% of the families faced the incident of violence due to the critical addiction of alcoholic members. Among these families, 80.82% spouses, 79.03% parents and 64.70% children were the victim of violence. Physical abuse was found very common among spouses (69.86%), verbal abuse among parents (91.78%) and mental abuse among children (63.01%). Majority (57.47%) families, who faced violence, belongs to low income category and less education category (86.18%). Conclusion: The study concludes, critical addiction of alcohol leaves the highest probability for occurrence of violence in the family. Further, it increases the probability of more critical consumption of alcohol among alcoholics and then more violence. Gradually, all of this turn into a vicious circle of critical drinking and family violence. Moreover, this creates many troubles for all members of the family and pushes the institution of family towards crisis.

Resumen
The life of a modern person has ceased to exist in isolation from the Internet but its use by children and adults differs in content. Modern technologies, actively implemented in networks, provide a lot of opportunities for self-education, fi nding new friends, expanding the circle of interests, creating the illusion of saving time to visit real shops, clinics, educational institutions, etc., while simultaneously forming dependence on gadgets, the appearance of fullness of one’s own life with “signifi cant” events. The purpose of the study is to assess the impact of the network on socio-psychological adaptation of the individual. Adults are much more likely to spend network time on work, especially when work is carried out remotely. Often, infants, not yet having walking skills, deftly cope with a smartphone, demonstrating the pleasure they experience to others. Meanwhile, their parents forget about the need to control the time spent by the child on the network. They often do not think about the content that the child is absorbed in, rejoicing at the opportunity to relax. This sort of behaviour is fraught with huge problems in the future, caused by disturbed child-parent relations, the result of which is the socio-psychological maladaptation of the individual. The most frequent requests of parents who applied for psychological counseling consisted of complaints about the child’s inability to communicate in the family and with peers, their aggressive behavior, weak self-control of emotions and behavior, unwillingness to learn, lack of time perspective, autoaggression. The analysis of family relations, the sequence of parenting styles, the time spent by parents to help the child, as well as the identifi cation of the main chronophages for family members, led to the conclusion that the socio-psychological adaptation of the child is provided by consistent styles of parenting, the presence of family traditions and a common hobby, a favorable psychological climate in the family. Digital technologies have become an obligatory part of our life but they cannot replace the family, which determines the varying degree of socialization of both a developing personality and an adult, leading to an unfavorable outcome to alienation, self-destructive behavior, mental, and psychological health disorders.

The study was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 36 students who dropped out of school. Based on the data obtained it is known that students who drop out dominantly come from families with low and middle income economies. Parents of dominant students have primary and secondary education. The work of parents who drop out of school is mostly farmers, fishermen and laborers. Based on these results it is recommended that students and families shoul be have a strong commitment to the importance of education so that they can improve family conditions so that they can emerge from the vicious circle of poverty.

Resumen
The report will consist of brief results of an on-line survey of children and teenagers at the age of -, that was conducted as a part of the Children Wellbeing Index project in . In total,   teenagers from  regions of Russia took part in the survey. Their number is approximately % of all children population of Russia at that age. The absolute majority of surveyed children live with their parents in families which consist of three or more members. This feature is due to the nature of the research which is an administrative survey, the links to online questionnaire were sent through schools. Our research does not focus on all problems, that face children left without parental care. Instead, the research was oriented to analyse wellbeing of ordinary, normal children, whose welfare is not a matter of concern. The questionnaire consists of  questions, divided into  basic domains of wellbeing: health, material wellbeing, security, education, social relations and self-realization. The main outputs of report are described below. In general, surveyed children are satisfi ed with their lives with ,% assessing their overall satisfaction to  or  out of . However, life satisfaction is lower in younger children than in older children. The age - years is the transitional age not only in the physiological sense but in the emotional and material wellbeing spheres too. At the age of - children have more diffi culties with communication both with classmates and parents. It can be assumed that these problems are of the same nature and reinforce each other. One of the crucial elements of children’s wellbeing is the possibility to be heard by parents and other adults. At the same time this factor affects how often children do feel lonely.

Resumen
The Nordic countries are now firmly ensconced in academia as gender-friendly welfare states. They are seen as pioneering countries with respect to changes in family life and gender relations and thus present an interesting forum for family research. This paper explores how gender caring relates to gender, religion and parenting in Sub-Saharan African families in the context of immigration to Finland. A constructionist perspective is employed to illuminate how guidelines or scripts established in these parents’ cultures are actively used and how they in turn influence their gender relations. Gender caring is conceptualized as an ethic of reciprocity, solidarity and obligation to ensure interdependence and strong bonds among black African parents. The article draws on in-depth interviews conducted with twelve couples mainly in the Helsinki area (which includes Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen).

Resumen
This article investigates the intergenerational effects of migration on the memories of Belgian families of Hungarian origin, focusing specifically on how these effects can prompt the second and third generations of migrant families to bring their private memories and identity constructions into the public sphere. Their social participation becomes a crucial element in their quest to uncover their families’ histories. While the memory of the migration experience was initially contained in the “archive” (the private sphere), it eventually transitions into the “canon” (the public sphere), becoming accessible to those outside the family circle. Using published biographies of second-generation members about their immigrant parents, photographic images, texts of a theatre play, group conversations on social media (Facebook), and interviews with members of the second and third generations, this article offers a varied source material to explore these questions. By pushing the boundaries of historical research and memory studies, it demonstrates that the memories of migration can have long-lasting effects that connect people and families with larger communities and the social sphere.

Resumen
Narration is one basic category of extended discourse, including the complex ways language is used to express various ideas. According to Bruner, narrative is a conceptual reconstruction of experience and the fi rst form of discourse produced by children. This is why narrative is embedded in various activities in early childhood education. Children are encouraged to share their experiences, thoughts, or fantastic word, retell the stories they have heard or been read to, make a story out of their paintings, or compose a story with dolls or in a drama play corner. To support children who do not have their mother tongue as the language of instruction we are to fi nd ways to get them acquainted with narratives. In this presentation we are going to share some good practices about how digital reading of fairy tales, traditional stories, mythology, or modern literature in children’s books can be used in order to enhance language and early literacy in both early childhood education settings and families. These practices were developed by pre-service students of early childhood education and were used in their training. Even though there was no systematic observation or recording, we had a very warm respond from educators and parents. Children were very enthusiastic to share what they had heard in classroom with their parents and got confi - dence in language use after having heard the same story many times.

Resumen
Abstract BodyThe first years of life represent a crucial period for psycho-affective development - the critical first 1000 days - because the events that happen to infants and babies during this period have psychosocial as well as epigenetic repercussions, with potential consequences throughout life and even for generations to come. The interactive circle that will develop between the skills (and/or vulnerabilities) of infants and parents and the interactive features arising from each triad, must be supported by perinatal mental health policies, of which the joint care of parents and infants in perinatal psychiatry is a pivotal element. It is necessary to develop care pathways, with systems integrated into “usual” care that take into account families from the prenatal or even pre-conceptual period to the postnatal period,Joint care must also be scalable and thus encompass everything from parent-child psychotherapy to joint mother-baby hospitalisation. This intervention will present and discuss an example of a graduated, integrated and coordinated system of care, and will open up the perspective that perinatal clinicians must bear in mind that joint care is above all "a way of doing things", based on the notions of multidisciplinarity and prevention.DisclosureNo significant relationships.

Resumen
The 8 week Circle of Security Parenting Programme™ (COSP) was delivered to parents who were working with Children’s Services in Monmouthshire. The group was delivered to help support children’s transition back to birth parents following a period of time in foster care. This process highlighted the impact on parent’s human rights; not only through having their children removed from their care but their experience of parenting a child alongside a corporate parent (Children’s Services). Parents reported feeling scrutinised, unsupported and degraded at times. This led us to consider how we can promote the human rights of parents to continue to parent their child whilst also balance the rights of the child to receive safe, nurturing, predictable care. Changes to service delivery followed with more consideration and open discussion about the human rights of both parent and child during our regular consultations. In addition, we are working more closely with the Family Time Team who supervise contact between families. This work is to promote the human rights of parents and children to continue to have a positive relationship and to share this approach with our foster carers, bridging the gap between them and the birth family.

This service aims to socialize and assist the partnership program of parents, schools, and the community in involvement in the implementation of early childhood education, as mandated by the Minister of Education and Culture No. 30 of 2017 concerning Family Involvement in Education. This activity was carried out in Lawela Village, South Buton Regency. This service activity consists of 3 stages. The first stage is the Community Service Team together with parents, schools and communities to carry out FGD (Forum Group Discussion) to socialize the partnership program. The second stage is partnership assistance to families, schools and communities. Third Stage The Service Team conducts interviews and observations to parents, teachers and the community regarding involvement in children's education at the Lawela Village Kindergarten. The results of this service show that through the socialization and assistance of the partnership program, a partnership relationship is built between parents, schools and the community, towards the implementation of early childhood education. These three elements of education are mutually involved in parenting programs, building communication for early childhood education, learning activities at home, and joint decision making.

Conference of the family group (KGR) is a method of the work with the family leading families in functioning to positive changes, giving the possibility of constructive and effective solving her problems. The specificity of this method causes employing the wide circle of members of a family, as well as other persons important for the child: of acquaintances, of neighbors, of friends; on the established forum discussion is being entered into with the possibility of using the participation of professionals, granting technical consultation; plans concerning solving difficult situations of the child and the family are being formulated. The KGR method is applied in final years in, bringing unprecedented beneficial results. Thanks to conducting fifteen conferences of the family group in the district of Bytów over twenty children missed to institutions social and behavioral, and it stayed in related and unrelated foster families and around their families. Moreover the families received the psychological support, possibility to use the services of the assistant of the family and the assistant of the person with disabilities. Resumen
Parent training (i.e. group-based supports and psychoeducation aimed at parent as primary agent of change) in Autism Spectrum Disorders (autism) is well-documented as an Evidence-Based Intervention designed to increase advocacy, knowledge, and empowerment. While research on Parent Training acknowledges the cultural limitations, the field lacks culturally grounded models. Furthermore, barriers in diagnosis, service acquisition, and inclusion of under-represented populations including Black families have been established; however, research programs have traditionally failed to include these families. This study aims to provide a first toward addressing the lack of inclusion. We describe the practice-based implementation of a culturally concordant Parent Training program (Spectrum of Care) developed by a community organization (the Color of Autism) as well as feedback from parents after the implementation process. The findings indicate that culturally grounded strategies could promote engagement and empowerment of Black families. There, however, is still a need for research that attends to parental mistrust and examines culturally grounded strategies more closely. Lay abstract Parent training programs have been well-studied in Autism Spectrum Disorders and shown to increase a parent’s feeling of empowerment, advocacy skills, and treatment enrollment for their child. The majority of parent training interventions have been developed without considering the unique needs of under-represented communities, such as the Black community. Black children with autism are not only misdiagnosed or not diagnosed at all, but are not accessing services equally compared to their White peers. There is an urgent need for culturally adapted interventions in order to decrease the disparity gap. The Color of Autism Foundation developed and ran a parent training program for Black parents of children with autism. The program was grounded in two key features: (1) creating a circle of support for parents to connect and heal from ongoing and historical racial trauma and (2) using parents of Black children with autism as the main facilitators. We believe this increased parent’s ability to engage in the educational aspects of the training. Overall, parents reported high levels of satisfaction with the training were highly engaged (attended an average of five of six sessions) and reported high levels of empowerment. Parents also reported continued mistrust in the medical and research community and a need for more Black providers. Further work should examine the relationship of the parent and provider in autism treatment and study the impact of circles of healing for Black families.

Resumen
RATIONALE FOR AN ECOLOGIC APPROACH This conference brings me back full circle to where I started my academic career in the mid-1960s studying the effects of different child-rearing styles on the behavior and development of children. At that time I was interested in the studies of Lewin et al1 that demonstrated how different leadership styles affect child behavior in groups. I used that model to develop an interview method for identifying different approaches to child rearing by having mothers describe how they handled many common rearing situations with young children.2 Those mothers who made frequent use of unmodified directives and physical and/or psychological punishment for noncompliance were identified as authoritarian and those who responded with reasoning and more flexible approaches to discipline, such as using distraction and time out, were identified as accommodative.3 I was interested to see whether pediatricians could identify high-risk styles that would be harmful to children and then work with the parents to change those styles. This led me to develop a longitudinal study that followed a group of 135 2-year-olds experiencing different parenting styles into first grade.4 The parents of these children were recruited from two suburban pediatric group practices. The first observation we made was that even with this middle class population it was difficult to find an adequate sample of parents of 2-year-olds who did not use a lot of unmodified directives and spanking. We did, after considerable effort, find a suitable contrast group in a highly educated subsample of the population. As for corporal punishment, the parents using an authoritarian style generally reported using physical punishment once a day or more to control behavior and those with an accommodative style once a week or less.

The paper focuses on the micro-level language policy where parents are the primary ‘actors’ to socialize language(s) to their children in the family circle. This small-scale study aims to find out 1) parent’s language attitudes towards bilingualism; 2) how the attitudes contribute to the decision making on language policy in the family; 3) and what efforts or strategies for maintaining the heritage language (HL). Data were collected from questionnaires to 28 Indonesian parents (from diverse ethnic backgrounds). To gain deeper insights, interviews were also conducted to investigate individual perceptions, feelings, and experience over bilingualism. Based on the analysis, it is found that although most of the families are bilingual with 3-4 languages being spoken at home, there is a limited context where interaction is carried out in HLs. The majority of respondents reported that it is only used to close relatives. The maintenance of HL is symbolic rather than strategic; it is perceived as important because of the sense of family hood to the language. This is confirmed in the following finding that parents feel that national language is far more important (65%) than the heritage language (34.6%) which is slightly below parents' aspiration for the children to learn a foreign language (38.5%). Also, there is little evidence showing parents’ explicit language policy which may be affected by familiarity and the status of the language, social institutions, community relations, and family structure.

Resumen
BackgroundFollowing paediatric cardiac surgery, quality of life may be significantly impacted by morbidities associated with cardiac surgery. Parental understanding of the potential for postoperative morbidity is important for informed decision making. As part of a broader research study, we aimed to elicit parental understanding and experience of the communication of morbidities following their child’s cardiac surgery, using traditional focus groups together with an online forum.MethodsThe Children’s Heart Federation set up and moderated a closed, anonymous online discussion group via their Facebook page, focusing on complications, information needs and methods of providing families with information. Additionally, we ran three focus groups with parents/carers, moderated by an experienced independent professional. Focus groups were recorded and transcribed and a single transcript was generated from the online forum. All transcripts were thematically analysed.ResultsAll data were collected in 2014. The forum ran over 3 months in 2014 and involved 72 participants. Focus groups involved 13 participants. Three broad themes were identified: (1) clinicians’ use of language, (2) feeling unprepared for complications and (3) information needs of families.ConclusionsClinicians’ language is often misunderstood, with wide variability in the way morbidities are described, and between differing teams looking after the same child. Information may not be easily absorbed or retained by families, who often felt unprepared for morbidities that arose after their child’s heart surgery. Here, we propose key principles of good communication tailored to the individual receiving it.

Resumen
Purpose of the study: The topicality of the issue under study is caused by the interest to peculiarities of the Russian national routine verbal communication, and to constants and variables thereof. The goal of the article is finding certain peculiarities of family communication which are revealed against the background of the Russian verbal ideal. Methodology: A leading approach to the investigation of this issue is linguo-culturological one which allows revealing value systems, apprehensions and stereotypes realized in family conversations of Ural town colloquial language native speakers and contributing to harmonization of communication between the family circle members, both close and distant. Results: As a result of the undertaken analysis, it was found that communicators’ socio-centric view of life is supported by the value sets on cooperation, the entourage’s respect, jocosity, communicative confidence, and sociability; value of complicity to the family circle and family memory were revealed; the trend to direct valuation use was denominated; it was shown that it is the popular-tongue environment wherein apprehensions of Russian people about children’s obedience, fate and justice are tied up (Alapuro, R., Mustajoki, A., & Pesonen, P. (Eds.). (2011)). Applications of this study: Materials of the article can be of interest for researchers of the Russian communicative culture, colloquialisms, teachers of Russian language as a foreign language, specialists in scope of communication optimization, higher and secondary school teachers, people forming and perfecting skills of conflict-free communication within the Russian verbal ideal. Novelty/Originality of this study: The authors established that participants of a family communication take definite verbal efforts for providing communicative concord and harmony supporting speech traditions flowing out from parents’ families. The socio-centric mental outlook of speech partners is achieved through realization of conversational sets on cooperation, respect to close people, communicative confidence and frankness. Senior family members translate communicative stereotypes that are adopted in their parents’ families.

Resumen
Adult children of alcoholics are adults who spent a part of, or their whole childhood in a dysfunctional family, where the biggest problem was alcohol addiction in one or both parents. In families with parental alcoholism, there is usually a lot of dysfunction in interpersonal relationships and in the upbringing of the children, which does not provide a healthy and optimal developmental environment for the child. There is often physical and psychological violence, and other forms of abuse and neglect that children perceive as traumatic. All this leaves the child with severe consequences, which they also struggle with in adulthood. Unresolved and traumatic childhood content often remains repressed and unprocessed and helps shape one’s functioning in adulthood, which is frequently emotionally and socially immature. Adult children of alcoholics often have problems in experiencing and regulating their emotions, as they had to carry many emotional burdens in a dysfunctional family, while they had no real opportunity for the healthy development of emotional regulation. The article will present research on the emotional experience of children with their alcoholic parents and how they recognize related consequences in their adult lives. Using the content analysis method, we analyzed 71 anonymous forum posts on the counselling forum on the topic “Adult children of alcoholics.” The directed approach to content analysis was used to validate forum posts by people who described their childhood experiences with an alcoholic parent. We identified parts of the content that fell into two predetermined categories: emotional experience in childhood with an alcoholic parent and the experience of its consequences in adulthood. The results showed that the adult children of alcoholics mostly experienced severe feelings of fear, shame, sadness and disgust with their alcoholic parents in their childhood, and that these feelings have remained unprocessed. In adulthood, they struggle with negative consequences in the personal sphere (e.g. poor self-esteem, inferiority, anxiety, depression), in interpersonal relationships (e.g. problems in partnerships, mistrust, social phobia, parental stress, complicated relationships with parents) and in everyday functioning (e.g. coping with one’s own addiction, dysfunctional behavioural patterns), but they also recognize that because of this experience they have managed to lay the foundations of their lives differently and better. The results confirm that children are hidden victims of parental alcoholism and justify the need for psychosocial and therapeutic support even in their adulthood.

AbstractCritical heart disease in the pediatric population is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Research around the most effective communication and decision-making strategies is lacking. This systematic review aims to summarise what is known about parent preference for communication and decision-making in children with critical heart disease. Database searches included key words such as family, pediatric heart disease, communication, and decision-making. A total of 10 studies fit our inclusion criteria: nine were qualitative studies with parent interviews and one study was quantitative with a parent survey. We found three main themes regarding physician–parent communication and decision-making in the context of paediatric heart disease: (1) amount, timing, and content of information provided to parents; (2) helpful physician characteristics and communication styles; and (3) reinforcing the support circle for families.

Resumen
Parents of neonates represent an integral area of potential clinical focus for practice consideration in NICU care. Fostering parents’ music as a unique forum, pre-emptive to the music they use for bonding with their infant, or for/with them exclusively, when their infants are not referred, can open many doors of critical relevance. Assessing the impact that early birth may have, and recognizing the experience of trauma that may potentially linger, can infringe upon valuable NICU time for parents and their infants. To address stress, and the potential of trauma, along with its definition and possible impact warrants knowledge of its symptomatology. In this article, stress will be defined, and the potential for acute stress and post traumatic stress disorder will be exemplified prior to addressing the potential parameters for music therapy involvement. Music psychotherapy for referred parents, with focused relevance to the ways in which impending fragility can be addressed with a holding environment of musical nurturance may provide meaningful moments of secured support. These moments, in turn, may likely serve as a safe space for the emergence of music connection with their infants. Our multi-disciplinary team will reflect upon experiences of collaborative practice with families who have experienced trauma related to premature birth. A case vignette highlighting the focal features of music psychotherapy with two parents and a video excerpt exemplifying their experience utilizing song of kin will follow. Resumen
The aims of this article are to, first, empirically investigate the experiences of aunts, who to a large extent have been ignored by family sociologists. Second, we aim to add to the existing theorising of everyday family life by bringing Simmel’s work – hitherto under-utilised in the field – into dialogue with the sociological literature on doing and negotiating families. Based on a textual analysis of online accounts posted on a US advice forum entitled ‘Dear Savvy Auntie’, we argue that Simmel’s notion of the stranger allows us to understand the position of some aunts as ‘involved observers’ who are both inside and outside the ‘family unit’ constituted by parents and children. Third, our article contributes to the literature by exploring the boundary work that being an involved observer entails as aunts negotiate simultaneously rigid and permeable boundaries that exist between the family unit and extended kin.

Resumen
Abstract Objective A suggested mechanism of functional constipation (FC) is the refusal against painful bowel movements and a vicious circle of holding back stool, hardening, colonic dilatation and further painful defecation. The aim of this study is to describe perception of school toilets, prevalence of functional abdominal pain (FAP) and constipation in elementary schools. Design and Setting All elementary schools in Giessen County, Germany were contacted. Parents received a questionnaire on perception of toilets and criteria of functional abdominal pain and constipation in two consecutive years. Results 212 (76.5%) families responded the child would use the school toilet for passing urine always, commonly or regularly (ACR), only 92 (33.2%) did so for passing stool. 46 (16.6%) were always disgusted by their school toilets, further 145 (52.3%) reported to be disgusted commonly or regularly. 126 parents reported their child would retain stool to avoid using the school toilet (45.5%). Children who were disgusted by and avoided using the school toilet showed significant higher prevalence of abdominal pain ACR (23.6% vs. 11.2%, p=0.0103) Conclusions Prevalence of abdominal pain and constipation is high and increased after one year. Negative perception of school toilets with consecutive avoidance behavior could be an important and improvable influence.

Resumen
Family support has evolved from a buzzword of the 1990s to a concept founded in theory, mandated by federal law, valued across disciplines, and espoused by both parents and professionals. This emphasis on family-centered practices for families of young children with disabilities, coupled with federal policy initiatives and technological advances, served as the impetus for the development of Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) programs (Nicholson & Martin, in press). White, Forsman, Eichwald, and Muñoz (2010) provide an excellent review of the evolution of EHDI systems, which include family support as one of their 9 components. The National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM), the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the Center for Disease Control Centers cosponsored the first National EHDI Conference. This conference brought stakeholders including parents, practitioners, and researchers from diverse backgrounds together to form a learning collaborative (Forsman, 2002). Attendees represented a variety of state, national, and/or federal agencies and organizations. This forum focused effort on the development of EHDI programs infused with translating research into practices and policy. When NCHAM, recognizing the critical role of family support in the improvement of outcomes for both children and families, created a think tank to investigate the concept of a conference centered on support for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing in 2005, the “Investing in Family Support” (IFSC) conference was born. This conference was specifically designed to facilitate and enhance EHDI efforts within the family support arena. From this venue, a model of family support was conceptualized and has served as the cornerstone of the IFSC annual conference since 2006. Designed to be a functional framework, the IFSC model delineates where and how families find support. In this article, we will promote and encourage continued efforts towards defining operational measures and program components to ultimately quantify success as it relates to improved outcomes for these children and their families. The authors view this opportunity to revisit the theoretical underpinnings of family support, the emerging research in this area, and the basics of the IFSC Model of Family Support as a call to action. We challenge professionals who work with children identified as deaf or hard of hearing to move family support from conceptualization to practices that are grounded in evidence and ever mindful of the unique and dynamic nature of individual families.

Resumen
Parenting interventions offer an evidence-based method for the prevention and early intervention of child mental health problems, but to-date their population-level effectiveness has been limited by poor reach and engagement, particularly for fathers, working mothers, and disadvantaged families. Tailoring intervention content to parents’ context offers the potential to enhance parent engagement and learning by increasing relevance of content to parents’ daily experiences. However, this approach requires a detailed understanding of the common parenting situations and issues that parents face day-to-day, which is currently lacking. We sought to identify the most common parenting situations discussed by parents on parenting-specific forums of the free online discussion forum, Reddit. We aimed to understand perspectives from both mothers and fathers, and thus retrieved publicly available data from r/Daddit and r/Mommit. We used latent Dirichlet allocation to identify the 10 most common topics discussed in the Reddit posts, and completed a manual text analysis to summarize the parenting situations (defined as involving a parent and their child aged 0–18 years, and describing a potential/actual issue). We retrieved 340 (r/Daddit) and 578 (r/Mommit) original posts. A model with 31 latent Dirichlet allocation topics was best fitting, and 24 topics included posts that met our inclusion criteria for manual review. We identified 45 unique but broadly defined parenting situations. The majority of parenting situations were focused on basic childcare situations relating to eating, sleeping, routines, sickness, and toilet training; or related to how to respond to child negative emotions or difficult behavior. Most situations were discussed in relation to infant or toddler aged children, and there was high consistency in the themes raised in r/Daddit and r/Mommit. Our results offer potential to tailor parenting interventions in a meaningful way, creating opportunities to develop content and resources that are directly relevant to parents’ lived experiences.

Resumen
Background Adolescents in residential substance use treatment are at extremely high risk for relapse following discharge to the community. Parenting practices, including parental monitoring and parent-adolescent communication, have been established as key predictors of adolescent substance use outcomes and relapse. However, traditional office-based therapy may not be feasible for parents who face structural and systemic barriers. There is a clear need for effective, accessible, and scalable interventions for parents of adolescents receiving residential substance use treatment. In a prior pilot randomized controlled trial, we tested Parent SMART (Substance Misuse among Adolescents in Residential Treatment)—a technology-assisted parenting intervention informed by extensive formative research—as an adjunct to residential treatment as usual (TAU). Parent SMART demonstrated high feasibility and acceptability, as well as evidence of effectiveness in improving parental monitoring and communication. Objective This protocol paper describes a fully-powered randomized controlled pragmatic effectiveness trial of Parent SMART as an adjunct to residential TAU. We hypothesize that families who receive Parent SMART will demonstrate greater improvements in parenting skills, reductions in adolescent substance use, and reductions in adolescent problem behaviors relative to families that receive residential TAU. We will test the exploratory hypothesis that reductions in adolescent substance use will be partially mediated by improvements in parenting skills. Methods Adolescent-parent dyads (n = 220 dyads; 440 total) will be randomized to either residential TAU only or Parent SMART+TAU. Parents randomized to Parent SMART will receive access to a networking forum, an off-the-shelf computer program called Parenting Wisely, and up to four telehealth coaching calls. Multimethod follow-up assessments consisting of self-reported parent and adolescent measures, a parent-adolescent in vivo interaction task, and 8-panel urine screens will be conducted 6, 12, and 24 weeks postdischarge from residential care. Measures will assess parenting skills, adolescent substance use, and adolescent problem behaviors. Analyses will be conducted using latent change score structural equation modeling. Results The trial was funded in August 2021; ethics approval was obtained in August 2020, prior to funding. Due to concerns with the administrative interface in the pilot trial, the Parent SMART networking forum is currently being rebuilt by a different vendor. The programming is scheduled to be completed by December 2021, with recruitment beginning in February 2022. Conclusions The proposed research has the potential to advance the field by serving a high-need, underserved population during a vital treatment juncture; targeting parenting practices (putative mediators) that have been shown to predict adolescent substance use outcomes; addressing barriers to accessing continuing care; and testing a highly scalable intervention model. Resumen
Background During the COVID-19 pandemic, eHealth services enabled providers to reach families despite widespread social distancing restrictions. However, their rapid adoption often occurred without community partners’ involvement and without an understanding of how they prioritize aspects of their mental health and associated service provision, both of which promote family and community-centered health care delivery. Establishing priorities in health care is essential for developing meaningful and reliable health services. As such, there is an urgent need to understand how eHealth service users, especially families who may have historically faced oppression and systemic barriers to service access, can best benefit from them. Arts-based approaches can elicit an understanding of priorities by providing an engaging and expressive means of moving beyond readily expressible discursive language and stimulating meaningful dialogue reflective of participants’ lived experiences. Objective The purpose of this research is to determine the priorities and preferences of youth; parents or caregivers; newcomers and immigrants; and Indigenous community members regarding the use of eHealth in supporting their mental health using an innovative arts-based priority-setting method. Methods This study uses a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative, quantitative, and arts-based research. It follows a survey used to identify key knowledge partners who are interested in improving eHealth services for mental health support in Manitoba, Canada. Knowledge partners interested in group-based priority setting will be contacted to participate. We will facilitate approximately two focus groups across each subgroup of youth, parents or caregivers, newcomers or immigrants, and Indigenous community members using an integrative, quantitatively anchored arts-based method termed the “Circle of Importance” to understand participants’ mental health priorities and how eHealth or technology may support their mental well-being. The Circle of Importance involves placing small objects, whose meaning is determined by participants, on a visual board with concentric circles that correspond to a 5-point Likert scale of importance. Following each focus group, we will evaluate participants’ and focus group facilitators’ experiences of the Circle of Importance using a survey and follow-up structured in-person interviews to garner how we can improve the arts-based approach used in the focus groups. Results The PRIME (Partnering for Research Innovation in Mental Health through eHealth Excellence) theme received institutional ethics approval on August 23, 2023. Data collection is projected for August 2023, with follow-up focus groups occurring in early 2024 as required. Data analysis will occur immediately following data collection. Conclusions Findings will directly inform a multiyear applied research agenda for PRIME aimed at improving mental health services through engaging key knowledge partners. The results may inform how arts-based methods in a priority setting can reflect aspects of experience beyond the capacities of qualitative or quantitative methods alone, and whether this approach aligns well with a positive experience of research participation. Resumen
Abstract As there is a myriad of Anglophone picturebooks featuring same-sex parents, some Western readers familiar with them would probably see little that is ground-breaking in the visual and verbal narrative of Larysa Denysenko’s and Mariia Foya’s Maya and Her Mums (2017). The picturebook’s first-person narrator and protagonist is a ten-year-old girl who describes her 16 classmates and their families; it includes no violence, no nudity, and no sexual references. Despite the title suggesting the story to be about the eponymous heroine and her family, Maya briefly introduces readers to her two mothers in one of the last doublespreads. When Maya and Her Mums was included in the programme of Ukraine’s most important book fair, the Lviv Book Forum, it became a political tool in the confrontation between homophobic Ukrainian nationalists and progressive intellectuals. In this essay, I want to examine the depiction of same-sex parenting in Maya and Her Mums and argue that it implies gradual widening of tolerance, with households headed by lesbian parents being the most controversial. Thus, the picturebook suggests that the definition of the family is stretchable, even in a conservative socio-political climate. By familiarising readers with Denysenko’s and Foya’s picturebook, I want to show what makes it different from equivalent Anglophone picturebooks and argue that the Ukrainian book market is slowly becoming more inclusive and diverse. Hence, despite the conservative backlash, the need for for same-sex parents and their children to be represented in children’s literature can no longer be ignored.

Resumen
As time goes by, and the influence of globalization continues to occur, it requires everyone to master science and technology, and have skills that do not make them outdated. However, through this development, human life has also become increasingly chaotic and chaotic, especially in the family (the relationship between children and parents), there is a lack of respect for parents and fellow humans, and they don't care about religion or things related to God. This is caused by the child's character not being built on the basis of the truth of God's word. So it is very important that Christian religious education is taught in families, schools and places of worship without being limited by time and space. Apart from that, Christian religious education must teach children about real life, so that children understand the purpose of this life. The influence of Christian religious education in the family is very large on children's growth if it is implemented seriously. The research method used in this research is qualitative research, with data collection techniques through literature review. The focus of this research is how Christian religious education is implemented in the household which can influence children's spiritual growth to increasingly reflect the character of Christ. The family is a very appropriate forum for forming a child's personality so that his spirituality continues to grow.

Resumen
Journal’s introductory article deals with preschool and pre-primary education actualities. At the end of November, the President of Lithuania signed Education law amendments. From the year 2023, the conditions for the social risk families bringing up preschool age children (5-6 years) should get better, because municipalities are obliged to ensure pre-primary education for all children. There were a lot of discussions up to that. Municipality and parents’ forum and other organisation representatives expressed worries. Municipalities state lacking kindergartens, preschool and pre-primary education teachers, educational environments are not arranged for such age children, etc. Parent representatives fear if their children are not seated in a school desk as first formers, and learn from textbooks, and so on. This problem is essentially solved; 800 are planned to be requalified, among them preschool and pre-primary education teachers. The project “Innovations in the kindergarten” closing next year should significantly contribute to education content creation, and so on. Changes in preschool and pre-primary education are grounded on neuroscience research and recommendations as well. Keywords: preschool education, pre-primary education, education quality.

Resumen
The article presents the results of the analysis of the content of discussions conducted on selected online forums devoted to the topic of parentification. It presents the ways in which forum members (victims of parentification) have interrupted the reversed order of family roles and levelled out the negative consequences of this experience, referred to as „de-parentification”. Activities such as: encouraging the parents to change their behaviour, separation from them, working on disclosure of negative emotions related to experienced parentification, exploring their own needs, reading, undertaking therapy, etc. have been identified. Simultaneously, different factors were identified, that are the obstacles for de-parentification. These include: transgenerational transfer of incorrect family roles structures, its continuance by the parent through diverse types of manipulation, the victim's denial, lack of social recognition of the victim's harm and the fault of the parent, etc. Additionally, the article points out the need for and the direction of further research concerning parentification, since only in-depth knowledge, both descriptive and explanatory, can further the effectiveness of the actions performed with the families.

In social life, children's development tends to be in the spotlight because children are predicted to be the next generation who are the hopes of parents, families, religion, and even the state. Concerns about a child's future arise when a child comes into conflict with the law due to a criminal act he or she has committed and is serving a prison term. However, these concerns were dispelled by the presence of legislation which ensured that this country paid more attention to its human resources. This research aims to produce a service based on a humanistic approach carried out by correctional officers for assisted children, where later this service can become a forum for developing children during their criminal period as well as preparing children for a better life after the criminal process is completed. This study used qualitative research methods. By taking a humanistic concept which refers to basic needs, security needs, social and affection needs as well as self-actualization needs which will later be applied to the Class IIA Bengkulu Special Development Institute for Children.

Resumen
Introduction: Circle of Security-parenting (COS-p) is a simplified, relationship-based programme with the intention of developing parents’ observation and inferential skills related to understanding their child’s needs, increasing sensitivity to their child, aiding in emotional regulation, as well as decreasing any of their negative attributions to their child. COS-p is a widely used parenting programme that is gaining global popularity, as it is currently being delivered across several continents. Despite being one of the most frequently used interventions in Norwegian child protective services (CPS), no research has been conducted on this programme’s effectiveness when used in the CPS context. This study therefore aims to establish a systematic overview of the programme’s effectiveness for families within the CPS system, regarding both caregivers and benefits for the children. Method: The database searches were originally conducted in June 2018 and updated in April 2020, encompassing 13 international bibliographical databases. The search for grey literature was conducted, and the generated articles these were then manually searched. A non-statistical narrative approach was used to analyse the studies due to the heterogeneity of the outcome measures. Research studies on the effectiveness of COS-p intervention, where the participants reported a minimum of two specifically defined risk factors, were included for further analysis. Results: Seven studies met the inclusion criteria. The studies included in the review focus on a diversity of separate and isolated factors concerning caregivers but not the effect of the accumulation of risk factors and how this may or may not influence the potential effectiveness of COS-p. The findings’ strengths include some improvements in reducing parental stress, increasing self-efficacy and parenting skills, and promoting an understanding of child behaviour. There is no conclusive evidence that COS-p assists in increasing the security of the parent-child attachment relationship. Discussion: Given the limited number of studies, further research is needed to examine if COS-p improves child behaviour, if its effects can be sustained over time and if it is more effective for particular populations.

Resumen
The Nitsiyihkâson project was conceived in order to develop a resource to promote attachment and development in a manner culturally appropriate to the Indigenous (specifically Cree) people of Alberta. Promoting secure attachment between a child and his/her caregivers is crucial to ensuring positive mental health, and improving family well-being. Working collaboratively with the community of Saddle Lake, the process began by launching the project in traditional ceremony. Following this, a talking circle was held with Saddle Lake Elders to share their memories and understanding of child-rearing practices that promote attachment. Using their guidance, we produced the document “awina kiyanaw”, which focuses on Cree stories and teachings , for parents to share with their young children. This document will be shared within the community, and agencies interested in promoting a culturally-appropriate approach to parenting. We then examined the cross-cultural applicability of these practices and produced a Resource Manual for service providers, comparing traditional ways-of-knowing with current neurobiological and epigenetic scientific understanding. We believe this helps those working with Indigenous families better understand their culture, and appreciate the wisdom in its teachings. In this paper, we present those findings and their ramifications.
