Texto completoIn the relationship between Rai and young adult audiences, the issue of quality plays a determinant by role. In Italy, the European country with the highest youth television consumption, audience is the dominant variable. Conversely, program quality management seems to remain in the background and presents important limitations. The first part of this thesis proposes a multidisciplinary theoretical analysis that contextualizes merits and limits of Rai's quality management on three levels: in its relationship with the State; in its internal production logics; and in its relationship with young audiences. We then present two studies referring to three Rai cultural programs. The first analyzes the expectations and qualitative perceptions of an audience of 600 young adults. After selecting 12 criteria characterizing "quality" and "viewing pleasure", we carried out a qualitative and quantitative analysis aimed at identifying expected and perceived quality and pleasure through the method of content analysis. The second study focuses instead to how professionals managing these programs pursue quality. The investigation was carried out with semi-structured interviews and with the paired comparisons method using the Condorcet criterion. This thesis not only brings out the merits and limits of the quality of cultural programs addressed to young people, but also brings together the universe of television professionals with that of the audience in a novel way, proposing an investigation method for improving and sustaining television quality

Texto completoIn order to better understand the adaptation process of deviant behaviour patterns. I have chosen to analyse first the importance of the individual and his environment and second the connection between the spectator and "the screen". I have come to the conclusion that the research on the link between juvenile delinquency and "the screen" tends not only to reverse the generally admitted cause and effect relation. Nevertheless. Owing to its specific psychophysiological and psychosociological properties and its violent and erotic content, "the screen" proves to be much more powerful and engaging than any other medium, and this despite various obstacles : - institutional (such as preventative legal measures) ; - technical and financial (such as the capital necessary to make and produce a film and then to distribute it)

Texto completoGoing beyond both the simple certified statement tha leads to say, on the basis of a few stories showing fascist, that the illustrated italian periodical publications, of the twenties and thirties were entirely under fascist influence and the opposite one that, because of the numerous anglo-saxon comics published during these years, contends that those same periodical publications were free from any fascist influence, this study aims at giving a new vision of the italian illustrated periodicals for children and teenagers of the fascist era. Through a study based on three approachs : sociological historical, semiological and lexical, it appears thta the action of the regime in terms of illustrated press turned out to be, globally, a failure. The analysis of the different texts (stories, comics and articles) pusblished in five periodical publications. (il balilla, il vittorioso, l'avventuroso, audace et topolino) from three key-periods (1934,1937 and 1939) reveals, on the one hand, an influence, howevr late, but also, on the other hand, that this influence was only shallow and did not affect deeply neither the contents nor the formal aspect of these periodica l publications

Texto completoMaking an analysis of science divulgence on television conducted us, first of all, to review the concept of “science” and its evolution; secondly, the characteristics and constraints of the “science divulgence” process on television. Because, even if they are closely linked, they must be considered as two different domains: in one hand production and in the other hand knowledge divulgence. The main objective of our research is to provide a diagnosis of the process of scientific divulgence for young people, and to understand the orientation and the evolution of this kind of documents which were broadcasted in French and Mexican public television within a period of twenty years. In order to do this, it was necessary to grasp and explain the concepts of science and divulgence of science, analyze the way topics are staged on television, understand the stakes of gender and tones used for knowledge transmission, as well as the role and the participation of the main actors of the divulgence of science: the mediator, the scientific and the public

Texto completoThis thesis aims to make a contribution to the history and definition of youth programming in France, by placing it in a semio-pragmatic perspective. In a complementary way, it tries to put forward the evolution of social and media representations of youth through the tools mobilized by audiovisual professionals to "construct" the public. Thus it aims, from this category, to shed light on the mechanisms and stages of the construction of the figure of the public within the media professions. By describing the processes implemented in the categorization and defi-nition of youth by television professionals, we wish to show how, within the television communication space (Odin, 2011), addressing a particular audience requires references from outside the medium (through audience surveys and social representations specific to professionals) in order to propose programming and programs that are supposedly adapted and themselves at the origin of particular media representations. This work thus seeks to describe the means by which television professionals shape at the same time a particular public, "the young public", and a program offer, "youth programs". In order to highlight the articulation between address and representations, and the resulting conceptions of the youth audience, this thesis successively presents three devices participating in the construction of the audience: the modalities of surveys on the audience and their uses; the programming and the evolution of the youth program offer; the fictional narratives staging this period of life

Texto completoTheatre for young people is experimental—the desire for and the modalities of an encounter between creators and a specific audience undergo redefinition with each performance. This PhD thesis sheds light on how theatre for young people came to be in France and Italy throughout history, as well as on the experiments carried out by the pioneers in the field. The focus is on the emergence of the child as a new protagonist within the theatrical field and on attempting to determine whether he indeed lies at the core of the creative process. In the first part, the emphasis is on the significance of the role of theatrical animation at the turn of the 1960s. The idea of a natural transition from artistic experiences involving young people to theatrical works designed for them was passed on from France to Italy ; by identifying the child as a potential partner in the creative process, theatrical animation prefigured the onset of new aesthetic forms directed to young audiences. In the second part, the aim is to show how artistic research has been crystallizing on the child as a spectator, who has become a specific target for stage directors and playwrights from the 1980s onwards. While reflecting on how to emancipate him, artists have taken ownership of various textual materials—some of which unexpected—and a path can therefore be traced from adaptation to creation. In France, a theatrical repertoire which belongs to youth literature in its own right has been emerging. At the same time, in both countries, the child as a character has been earning his way in play scripts and on stages. Thus, a specular relationship can be established between the child as a spectator and his double

Texto completoIn Europe the subsidiarisation process of social policies and employment strategy impacts the local networks of actors linked to the development of new active policies. Its consequences are managed daily by professionals working with citizens. They explain to users fractures of a welfare state in transition - from a socialization of collective risks to an individual responsibility of protection- and they give meaning to the institutional boundaries , geographical and social , built between active political devices. The research question of this thesis is to show how the European model of active employment policy structure practices and operations of new premises of welfare systems. To answer it discusses the strategies of actors face the contradictions caused by the rhetorical dimension of the new active welfare and the practical dimension of the crisis of funding. It is therefore addressing the issue of flexibilities of street level bureaucrats to deal with change and make sense of often remote European directives intervention courses and characteristics of target audiences. At the theoretical level, the objective of this research is to propose a conceptual framework to explaining the process of subsidiarisation and activation of the welfare state from its effects. Our working hypothesis leads us to explore a correlation between active employment policies and : 1. the territorial fragmentation of institutions and stakeholder networks ; 2. the specialization of public employment services; 3. the new instruments of contracts ; 4. professionalization and casualization of stakeholders.Using a comparative research in France and Italy, we offer an analysis of professional strategies involved in social integration policies for young people. About youth policy, they show the components of the local systems of welfare (Loncle, 2011) and draw welfare conditions for the new generations. In addition, since the implementation of the European Employment Strategy in 1997 and the European Youth Pact in 2005, they indicate the transition arrangements to adulthood and define the criteria of employability in the market European employment. We prefer the specific method thumbnails (Barter and Renold, 2000; Finch, 1987; Hughes and Huby, 2002) to show the scenes and actors strategies in the activation process. We complet these survey materials with semi-structured interviews and participant observation to examine different levels of actors, institutions and professionals related to the restructuring of the local welfare

Texto completoThis research aims to contribute to a preliminary historiographical analysis of the cycle of protest which spread out in Italy in 1977. Nine years after 1968, revolts started again in the streets and inside universities. This new wave of protest was charaterized by the use of creativity and humour but also by the acceptance of the violence: illegal action and urban guerrilla warfare became quite widespread and contributed to the expansion of the red terrorism. As a matter of fact, this "movement" shows an inherent ambiguity: it put together political emulators of Dadaism with oldstyled armed revolutionaries. Thus, finding an inclusive description of it is still an open challenge and the escalation of political violence is still awaiting for a convincing aetiology. The objective of this research is twofold On one hand rebuilding a coherent and realistic picture of the phenomenon under analysis, adopting insider sources of the "movement" and chronicles. On the other hand, the present work aims at integrating the institutional variable in the study of the protest, in order to verify to which extent the State can be held responsible for the mobilization processes and, especially, for the radicalization of the social conflict. The analysis is centred on the action of the ministry of Interior and based on records from States archives. The Italian policing of protest is finally compared to the case study of France during the first years after May 68. At that time, extreme-left activists threatened a similar escalation of violence, but they came to a halt before shooting

Texto completoVenetian Federico Zandomeneghi (1841-1917) is always remembered as an artist who relocated to Paris in 1874 to become a follower of Degas, taking part in the Impressionist exhibitions starting in 1879. The primary objective of this thesis is to analyse this artist's ties to Italy, before and after his long-lasting experience in France. We delve into the period starting in 1841 and lasting until 1874 during which Zandomenegi trained at the academies of Venice and Milan, and during which he moved to Florence, at which point he first encountered the Macchiaioli. Moreover, this study has given us the opportunity to deepen our understanding of the Italian artistic context in which Zandomeneghi developed, to what extent his close relatonships with the numerous artists he encountered affected his later artistic choices (Diego Martelli, Marcellin Desboutin), and what position Zandomeneghi attained in Italy before leaving his country permanently. In the second part of the present study, a corpus of unpublished letters between two Milanese art personalities, the art critic Enrico Piceni and art dealer Angelo Sommaruga, was thoroughly examined. Their role was indeed crucial for Zandomeneghi’s artistic rediscovery. Although Zandomeneghi spent 43 years of his life in France, he was never fully recognized in the French historiography, whereas was acclaimed for the second time by the Italian critic after his death. This thesis aims to shed light on the reasons why Zandomeneghi has always been considered a Venetian impressionist, a label that has been employed even in very recent expositions

Texto completoThis thesis investigates representations of sexuality and constructions of masculinity among young Moroccan Muslim men (aged between 20 and 30) who migrated to France (Alsace) and Italy (Tuscany). Sexual accounts and gender identification processes are the main fields to study heteronormativity and to show how its hegemonic power is interwoven with other social relations which define the transition to adulthood of these young men. By exploring the outcomes of a qualitative research – based on ethnographic observation and interviews – this study demonstrates that heteronormativity, far from being a monolithic power, is a plural norm which produces not only social constructions of sexuality and masculinity among young Moroccans, but also shapes intra- and intergenerational relationships, relations among minority groups, and between migrants and the majority population

Texto completoIn the late 2000s, the image of the velina - hyper- eroticised soubrette of the Italian television - becomes the symbol of the commodification of the female body and of the female subordination in the public space, characterising Berlusconi's ventennio. Thanks to the epistemological tools of Visual Studies and to the images of contemporary visual culture, the dissertation aims first to analyse how images build the velina's body. Her visual genealogy brings together iconic and opposed images of femininity, as the Young Italian fascists, the american Tiller Girls and the heroines of Italian softcore cinema of the seventies. In 1989, the iconography crystallises in the velina's, image, when it emerges in the television program Striscia la notizia (Mediaset, Berlusconi). Through the analysis of a specific case study - the daily practices and micropolitics of Giulia Calcaterra, velina of the 2012-2013 edition -, the dissertation deconstructs the crucial arguments excluding veline from knowledge and politics. The velina is not, as argued by mainstream critique, an alienated, marginal and passive subject of the society of the Spectacle. Rather, from her speech about her own action, she appears as a self-reflexive and intelligent subject, as well as a privileged actress of the aesthetic and cultural industry, on the basis of which Berlusconi has built his political consensus, since the late seventies. The dissertation then focuses on the relationship between the velina's image and Berlusconi's image. We analyse images connecting the velina and Berlusconi as a «chief». Berlusconi's « charisma» is visually built by himself, by the cultural intermediaries of his political party, the anti-berlusconian press, cinema and other visual productions, in connection to the velina's image. Taking the example of some key elements of his political propaganda, we can see how it is based on visual practices intertwined to discursive and other political, scientific, technical and social practices aimed at raising in the electorate a « love for domination », through a « domination of love ». If the velina actively contributes to Berlusconi's « charisma », it is because she has the power to grant him the necessary erotic charge for him to inspire in the public a desire to be dominated

Texto completoThis research intends to bring out the pedagogy and ethics that directed an editorial project aimed at very young people born in Italy after the Second World War and promoted by the A.P.I., Association of Italian Pioneers, inspired by the editorial experiences of the Pioneers in the USSR and in France, children's magazines created to convey progressive messages. The work aims to demonstrate that the Italian magazine, the Pioniere, was not a simple editorial operation; on the contrary it reveals a great passion for research and pedagogical experimentation of those who worked on it and who considered it one of the many tools to reach a greater number of children and young people, with whom starting a new educational approach. In those years, these young Italian intellectuals started a pedagogical avant-garde that led to the establishment in 1951 of the Movement for Educational Cooperation (M.C.E.) inspired by the popular pedagogy of the French pedagogists Célestin and Elise Freinet. The M.C.E. at the end of the Second World War brought together intellectuals and pedagogists convinced that education, cooperation and solidarity are the guarantee for the civil and democratic development of society. The same protagonists of this editorial project for children have committed themselves to creating magazines aimed at parents, educators, teachers, starting a solid collaboration with the CEMEA, Centers for Exercise in Active Education Methods, a movement born in France in 1937 and transformed into an international organization in 1954 with the aim of promoting the implementation of the methods and principles of active education. The analysis of the Italian magazine shows how it came to use journalistic language, poetry, investigation and comics in an ethical way, proposing a pedagogical approach that respects the human being and his love for knowledge, and presents the use it has made of Comics and words, knowing the cognitive mechanisms that make use of a creative use of language, the strength of the sign, the power of imagination and fantasy, for a socio-pedagogical reflection on the use of these languages. Reading the Pioniere is intended to be pleasant and entertaining, but its objectives aim to offer a literary, artistic and pedagogical model: it is a magazine conceived for children of the fifties as a quality training tool and a vehicle for messages containing humanistic values, a magazine that considers the ethics of beauty a need for human beings. This research inevitably answers many questions: how this type of edition has played an emancipatory role; how representative it was of society and the world of childhood or how far it deviated from it; how indicative it was of a marginal and minority vision; to what extent it has inspired new educational approaches by acting as a spokesperson for new messages, of a new humanism, of new values, or to what extent it has been a reflected image of society in which to find oneself and recognize oneself; how much it left room for imagination, for the even imaginative creation of a new future or whether it instead proposed a model to follow. And finally to what extent this pedagogical project managed to remain free and independent or represented the expression of power and authority.A look at the socio-political context that saw the birth of the Italian magazine and at the important and innovative pedagogical project that is at its basis, reveals how the large presence of important intellectuals and artists who collaborated with the editorial staff of the Pioniere made it possible to start a debate on education that laid the foundations for new research in the pedagogical field, although this editorial experience had a short and troubled life compared to similar publications in other countries

Texto completoA detailed analysis of poetry for children in Italy in a multidisciplinary direction (historical, thematic, rhetorical, pedagogical, sociological) had never been carried out, nor started until today. The present work is therefore the first that takes into consideration a sufficiently wide chronological range - from 1945 to the present - dealing with issues that were found scattered in the various chapters of literatures for children or in articles in specialized magazines. Despite the great interest that the publishing industry has shown in the past (at least since the Sixties onwards) and still demonstrates today towards the public of children, and despite the richness and variety of necklaces dedicated to the creation of poetry and poetry, the lack of a general study seemed to us a serious gap. The absence of a systematic critique can perhaps be explained by the little prestige that still today, despite everything, covers the writing intended for children, as if writing for children were only a prelude to “true” writing, and poetry addressed to children a simple (and simplified) premise of “true” poetry. We therefore think, first of all, of having demonstrated the importance of poetry for childhood in itself and its great significance in the process of education and aesthetic education. In our opinion, the criticism cannot in fact be subjected to didactic or moral principles, but must take into account this artistic approach : the poetry book for children must therefore satisfy its needs (curiosity, play, the need to express oneself ) and at the same time constitute a real bridge to art, literature and music. The contribution of disciplines such as sociology, in particular the reflections on the so-called “liquid” society and culture theorized by Zygmunt Bauman have enriched the proposed elaborations.Another innovation is that of having carried out a gender study in the field of childhood poetry. Although not definitive, this survey has allowed us to broaden the horizon of criticism. In the context of the authors we think we have had the merit of remembering authors who are not very present (or completely absent) in the anthologies of poetry for children, such as Tommaso Landolfi, Giulia Niccolai, Rossana Ombres and Giovanni Arpino and for having claimed and reserved one particular space to Giuseppe Pontremoli and Pierluigi Cappello. In the context of anthologies, we also rightly believe that we have included the analysis (and evaluation) of children’s anthologies in the study of poetic anthology (in particular those by Roberto Antonelli in « Critica del testo » and Niccolò Scaffai), a completely new operation. The proposed Anthology therefore follows the highlighted criteria and differs considerably from those of the past as well as those currently on the market

Texto completoWhatever the systems be, 14 millions of young people would leave the initial training systems with no perspectives in terms of employment or study. In the 1990's, European Commission made this severe report while both endorsing a traditional welfare state mandate and convening national experts in order to identify the best integration practices. From 1994 to 1999, the European Social Fund policy challenged the member states on the ways they deal with a fundamental dilemma of social organization : how integrating young generations managing at the same time the structural tension that exists between social order and personal freedom ? Analyzing the social uses of this policy implies to deal with several theorical and opertional questions described through four levels of reception. Did national institutions used these funds to reform, to reinforce or to delegate this public mandate ? What kind of expert ressources the actors to whose this mandate to integrate young people is delegated did used during this programming ? What evaluation criteria have been selected ? Can we identify different cultures of this mandate for integration which characterize specific ways of treating the adressed dilemma ? Results show that these cultures are working with different major reasons that influence all the imagined solutions. To integrate someones goes through a professionnal project in France ; the participation to a social network in Italy and the restoration of a positive relationship to oneself and the society in Finland. These cultural comparisons will approach comparative methods in the light of better linking macro phenomenons (policy, institutions) to micro ones (experts, territories)

Texto completoLebanon has faced 15 years of civil war that destroyed severely not only his economy, and his infrastructure, but also his image of communication between different communities constituting it. In fact, after being known, since the era of Phoenicians, as the country that linked the east and the west, the country of people who created the first alphabet, the trilingual society open to other populations, Lebanon is facing nowadays a problem of communication among his communities divided into small fragments. In a century where communication became a must, where media is spreading the culture of different communities and minorities, Lebanon has lost this ability and people are identifying the “Other” by their confession and their political point of view. Moreover, the media, especially the local televisions (founded by the different parties and confessional leaders in Lebanon) are not helping the public opinion to learn about other communities. The most fragile target is the Lebanese youth, born after the civil war but paying the price of what their parents faced or did during the war, and sadly misinterpreting the local TV information. This major crisis pushed us to notice an urgent need of resetting some basic communication standards, to be taught at schools in history or civic education classes, in order to prepare our youth for a better future where they can accept the “Other” and know more about his different background

Texto completoThis thesis proposes a sociohistorical analysis of gender representations in French animated television series. In analysing the programming strategy of television networks and the adaptation and rerun phenomena, the research reveals a structural tension between standardisation and innovation, as well as backlash effects. Indeed, these programs have generally conveyed a binary and essentialist conception of gender, minimizing female characters and confining them to secondary and caretaking roles. Nonetheless, following contemporary social changes, some productions have begun to challenge gender norms. 56 programs broadcast between 1957 and 2014 have been selected for this qualitative analysis. In 2015-2016, 11 comprehensive interviews were conducted with professionals as well as a fieldwork on the association Les Femmes s’Animent (the French counterpart of Women in Animation). This new angle helps to understand how the issue of gender inequalities is perceived by different professionals in the French animation industry (such as writers, producers, animators and television networks). While some of them try to fight against gender stereotypes, organisational and economic constraints as well as social norms related to child protection continue to impact the production of animated series

Texto completoThe purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the issues pertaining to the theatrical use of audiovisual technologies by Italian theatre, in the course of its experimentation and research over the last forty years. Effectively, Italy occupies a noteworthy position in the European theatrical landscape. Cradle of modern theatre, it possesses a specific theatrical tradition, which upon its encounter with European staging practices (mise en scène) produced unparalleled reactions. During the 1960s, the blossoming of experimental practices lead to the elaboration of a new theatre culture in which visual and sound technologies had an important role. In order to understand these phenomena, we focused on the history of different artistic movements, on the conditions of production and diffusion and on the role of theatre criticism. In combining these aspects with a prolonged analysis of numerous, varied creations (theatre performances, television productions, videos), we attempted to understand the evolution of the motivations, conjunctures, and outcomes of the relation between theatre creators and the technologies. We thus organised the dissertation chronologically, in four periods (1965-1978; 1979-1989; 1990-1998; 1999-2005), which clearly denote the main developments of the technological devices used (analogue, electronic, digital) and of the attitudes adopted by artists. This reconstruction illustrated that the technologies engender an expansion of the field of theatre, the displacement of the stage, the multiplication and the destabilisation of theatre practices. The technologies were revealed not only as a remarkable esthetical phenomenon, but also as a key for understanding contemporary theatre

Texto completoThis thesis studies the representation of modern Arab identities through one of the most influential reality shows in the Arab World: Star Academy Middle East.It seeks to understand the strategic and ideological discourse over Arabism constructed by one of the leading Lebanese satellite channel in the MENA region: LBC-Sat.Through the study of both the professional and commercial context of emergence of this discourse, as well as a qualitative content analysis of the first four seasons of the show, it tries to understand its rationale as well as its impact in the Arab World. We believe that this narrative is unfolding in an arena of controversies where a multitude of positions regarding Arab identities are debated. Indeed, since the establishment of the first Arab satellite channels that led to a prosperous television industry, a pan Arab public sphere arose. TV shows became political fields in which opinions were exposed and theories regarding political and social issues were considered. The once monopolistic control over media contents of authoritarian regimes gave way to a more liberal environment, where citizens were given the chance to participate in the debates framing there lives. Today, Arab satellite channels act as a lightning rod for what is known as “New Arabism”, a sense of belonging to an imagined community that is no longer imposed by a higher power but developed by the base. With their liberal aesthetic and messages that oppose those of more conservative Arab televisions, Lebanese channels play a crucial role in redefining Arab identities. Their discourse, inspired by a cultural and ideological interpretation of Lebanon’s position in the Arab world, translates into a plea to rebuild bridges between the East and the West. As a symbolic object composed of hybrid forms and ideas, Star Academy Middle East echoes this position

Texto completoIt is now possible to have a global vision of gracq's works. As julien gracq stopped writing fiction after 1970, the features of the investment of the self and the main axes of the imaginary can be defined by taking into account the novelistic, poetic, critical, autobiographical aspects. In order to throughly understand the writing modes of the gracq self, it is necessary to study the writer's relationship towards literature and andre breton's emblematic figure. Like in traditional autobiographies, gracqian writing neither dismisses the filiations in the strict sense of the word nor the more literary ones, built and imagined. Gracqian writing proposes a somewhat classical pattern of memory, but the author never undertakes to make a complete narration of his private life; by means of a fragmentary style of writing, he offers a literary, sometimes ambiguous image of the self. This work of literary composition finds its full meaning in an intimate relation to time and space, first of all in the representations of childhood presented as true personal myths. On the other hand, gracqian autobiographical writing is extremely dependent on history. Studying the relation of the self to space reveals new data: the urban space, first of all the city of nantes, offers possibilities of imaginary projections, always present in the works, that have been easy to identify since un beau tenebreux. Strolling in life and literature, gracq grants growing importance to the representations of the self and the town, thus bringing to light the relation of privacy to the main favorite themes of his works

Texto completoThis research is an analysis of the supply and demand for Québec's French-language television production for youth and more specifically the 12 to17 years old demographic. As a result of low audience figures, the industry has a tendency to invest heavily in imported programs rather than the production of local programs. To better understand the political, economic and social issues surrounding the industry of television production for Youth, we propose to explore and compare the television supply aimed at 12 to 17 year-old and their television consumption. The quantitative and statistical analysis of supply and consumption is achieved in three ways: (i) the analysis of the receiving structure (programs with top ratings, differences between boys and girls and time spent), (ii) the analysis of the structure of programming (schedules, genres, country/province of production, main themes of programs) and (iii) the analysis of thematic structure (themes associated with episodes and characters). From this analysis, several findings emerge: Young people view what producers broadcast for them, despite the limited access to this supply. In addition, several tactics seem to be implemented to sustain the economics of the distribution of these programs, mainly multiple screening. Finally, these programs, aimed at adolescents, are fundamentally different from those for older audiences, not only by the audience they are trying to reach, but also by the themes they address and how they approach them.
