Five compounds of mono para-hidroxy chalcon were synthesized (TC1, TC2, TC3, TC4, and TC5) and tested their cytotoxicity against HeLa cell and Raji cell. The difference in substituent of TC1 (R4 =H), TC2 (R4 = OCH3), and TC3 (R4 = F), showed the difference of their citotoxicity against HeLa cell. The citotoxicity of TC1 (LC50 = 16.08 µg/mL) ≈ TC3 (LC50 = 13.37 µg/mL), but the substituent difference of TC2 (LC50 = 147.43 µg/mL), decreasing it citotoxicity 10 times. Like wise their citotoxicity against Raji cell of TC1 (LC50 = 36.44 µg/mL) ≈ TC3 (LC50 = 30.46 µg/mL), but the substituent difference of TC2 (LC50 = 468.94 µg/mL), decreasing it citotoxicity activity 15 times. Nevertheless the strength of citotoxicity TC4 (LC50 = 98.74 µg/mL) and TC5 (LC50 = 110.97 µg/mL) against Raji cell are stronger than the citotoxicity of two of them against HeLa cell (LC50 of TC4 = none, LC50 of TC5 = 576.53 µg/mL). Aim. To evaluate the safety issues and adverse effects of using TCHP regimen (docetaxel, carboplatin, trastuzumab, and pertuzumab) versus TCP regimen (docetaxel, carboplatin, and trastuzumab) in older postmenopausal women with nonmetastatic HER2-positive breast cancer. HER2 overexpressed in 20–25% of breast cancer signals an aggressive form of breast cancer and is treated with trastuzumab and pertuzumab. Methods. The patient record database was accessed to identify all postmenopausal women in the Punjab Care hospital who were above 65 years old, with stages 1–3 HER2-positive breast cancer and treated with neoadjuvant TCHP and neoadjuvant TCP from 2013 till 2016. Results. In TCH-P group and TCH group, mild fatigue (34% versus 36%) and diarrhea (48% versus 49%) were most common toxicities. Fever in TCH-P group and TCH group (12% versus 13%) was common. Anorexia affected 21% and 16% of patients receiving TCH and TCHP regimen, respectively. Febrile neutropenia was higher in TCH-P group 13% (3/23) versus 4.5% (1/22) in TCH group. Also 27.2% (6/22) of TCH-P group was hospitalized for treatment related toxicities versus 21.7% (5/23) of TCH group. Conclusion. Comparing neoadjuvant TCP and neoadjuvant TCH-P showed TCH-P regimen had an acceptable toxicity profile. Severe cardiac dysfunction was not observed. Using TCH-P regimen can be considered as relatively safe therapeutic option for elderly postmenopausal women with nonmetastatic HER2-positive breast cancer.

The objective of this study is to isolation and agonistic test ability of Trichoderma spp. againts Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. cause of wilting on pepper plants and has been conducted in Pathogenicity Laboratory Faculty of Agriculture Unpatti. The study use 5 treatment of isolate Trichoderma spp. (Tc3, Tc4, Tc5, Tc6 and Tc7) with 3 replications so that there are 15 experimental units. The results showed that the five isolates Trichoderma spp. has an antagonistic power to S. rolfsii with an average percentage of inhibition of S. rolfsii of 26,01%. Percentage of inhibition bolth of isolate ware not significantly different at 95% level test results between treatment. Average percentage inhibition of S. rolfsii by Trichoderma spp. each treatment was Tc6 = 27,31%, Tc3 = 26,63%, Tc5 = 26,05%, Tc7 = 25,69% and Tc4 = 24,37%. Keywords: antagonism, Trichoderma spp., Sclerotium rolfsii Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan mengisolasi dan menguji kemampuan antagonis Trichoderma spp. terhadap Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc. penyebab layu pada tanaman cabai dan telah dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Patogenisitas Fakultas Pertanian Unpatti, dengan menggunakan 5 perlakuan isolat Trichoderma spp. (Tc3, Tc4, Tc5, Tc6 dan Tc7) dengan 3 ulangan sehingga terdapat 15 satuan percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima isolat Trichoderma sp. mempunyai daya antagonis terhadap S. rolfsii dengan rata-rata persentase penghambatan S. rolfsii sebesar 26%. Hasil analisis varians pada taraf 95% menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan nyata antara perlakuan. Rata-rata persentase penghambatan S. rolfsii oleh Trichoderma spp. masing-masing perlakuan berturut-turut adalah Tc6 = 27,31%, Tc3 = 26,63%, Tc5 = 26,05%, Tc7 = 25,69% dan Tc4 = 24,37%, dengan rata-rata 26,01%. Contamination with 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA) often causes taste and odor (T&O) problems in drinking water due to its low odor threshold concentration. Microbial O-methylation of the precursor 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) would be the dominant mechanism for TCA formation. Simple and rapid measurement of TCP in the low concentration range is necessary to control the problems induced by TCA. In this study, the combination of microbial conversion and instrumental analysis was proposed as a method of TCP quantification. Fungi and bacteria were isolated from various water samples and examined for their ability to produce TCA from TCP. As a result, a strain exhibiting quantitative TCA production and a high growth rate was obtained and named Mycolicibacterium sp. CB14. The conversion rate of TCP to TCA by this strain was found to be high and stable (85.9 ± 5.3%), regardless of the applied TCP concentration, although within the range of 0.1–10 µg/L. The limits of detection and quantification for TCP by this proposed method were determined to be 5.2 ng/L and 17.3 ng/L, respectively. By improving the methods, Mycolicibacterium sp. CB14 could be used for the quantification of TCP at very low concentration levels, which is sufficient to manage the T&O problem caused by TCA.

ABSTRACT Cork taint is a musty or moldy off-odor in wine mainly caused by 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (2,4,6-TCA). We examined the role of 14 fungal strains isolated from cork samples in the production of 2,4,6-TCA by O methylation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (2,4,6-TCP). The fungal strains isolated belong to the genera Penicillium (four isolates); Trichoderma (two isolates); and Acremonium, Chrysonilia, Cladosporium, Fusarium, Mortierella, Mucor, Paecilomyces, and Verticillium (one isolate each). Eleven of these strains could produce 2,4,6-TCA when they were grown directly on cork in the presence of 2,4,6-TCP. The highest levels of bioconversion were carried out by the Trichoderma and Fusarium strains. One strain of Trichoderma longibrachiatum could also efficiently produce 2,4,6-TCA in liquid medium. However, no detectable levels of 2,4,6-TCA production by this strain could be detected on cork when putative precursors other than 2,4,6-TCP, including several anisoles, dichlorophenols, trichlorophenols, or other highly chlorinated compounds, were tested. Time course expression studies with liquid cultures showed that the formation of 2,4,6-TCA was not affected by a high concentration of glucose (2% or 111 mM) or by ammonium salts at concentrations up to 60 mM. In T. longibrachiatum the O methylation of 2,4,6-TCP was catalyzed by a mycelium-associated S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferase that was strongly induced by 2,4,6-TCP. The reaction was inhibited by S-adenosyl-l-homocysteine, an inhibitor of SAM-dependent methylation, suggesting that SAM is the natural methyl donor. These findings increase our understanding of the mechanism underlying the origin of 2,4,6-TCA on cork, which is poorly understood despite its great economic importance for the wine industry, and they could also help us improve our knowledge about the biodegradation and detoxification processes associated with chlorinated phenols.

Combined chemical and sensory methods were used for the source identification of musty off-flavours in water; the methods were based on stripping enrichment, gas chromatography (GC) with both instrumental and sensory detection, and preparative GC. Two case studies of drinking water derived from groundwater (one chlorinated and one non-chlorinated) showed that 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA) was the major odorous compound. Furthermore, the concentration of TCA increased significantly in the distribution system. Studies of surface waters showed that TCA is widespread in Sweden, and in one small forest lake, it was found that TCA made a significant contribution to the total odour of the water. The formation of TCA during distribution was probably caused by microbial methylation of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP). TCP is formed during chlorine disinfection of drinking water and has recently also been identified as a natural halogenation product. In the present study, fungi (of the genera Phialophora, Acremonium and Penicillium) and actinomycetes isolated from drinking water were capable of producing TCA by methylating added TCP.

Internet applications make use of the services provided by a transport protocol, such as TCP (a reliable, in-order stream protocol). We use this term Transport Service to mean the end-to- end service provided to application by the transport layer.   That service can only be provided correctly if information about the intended usage is supplied from the application. The application may determine this information at the design time, compile time, or run time, and it may include guidance on whether a feature is required, a preference by the application, or something in between. Multipath TCP (MPTCP) adds the capability of using multiple paths to a regular TCP session. Even though it is designed to be totally backward compatible to applications. The data transport differs compared to regular TCP, and there are several additional degrees of freedom that the particular application may want to exploit.   Multipath TCP is particularly useful in the context of wireless networks using both Wi-Fi and a mobile network is a typical use case. In addition to the gains in throughput from inverse multiplexing, links may be added or dropped as the user moves in or out of coverage without disrupting the end-to-end TCP connection. The problem of link handover is thus solved by abstraction in the transport layer, without any special mechanisms at the network or link level.   Handover functionality can then be implemented at the endpoints without requiring special functionality in the sub-networks according to the Internet's end-to-end principle. Multipath TCP can balance a single TCP connection across multiple interfaces and reach very high throughput.

Em um ambiente de rede cabeada simulada, TCP HolyWood supera em vazão media três dos mais importantes protocolos TCPs já elaborados. Estamos falando de TCP Reno, TCP Westwood, e TCP Vegas; e em variação de retardo media ao TCP Reno bem como ao TCP Vegas. Alem disso, de acordo com o índice de Jain, nossa proposta e tão imparcial quanto o padrão, TCP Reno.
We introduce a new end-to-end, sender side Transport Control Protocol called TCP HolyWood or in short TCP-HW. In a simulated wired environment, TCP HolyWood outperforms in average throughput, three of the more important TCP protocols ever made, we are talking about TCP Reno, TCP Westwood, and TCP Vegas; and in average jitter to TCP Reno and TCP Vegas too. In addition, according to Jain’s index, our proposal is as fair as TCP Reno, the Standard.

Ad oggi, il Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) è il protocollo più popolare per trasmettere e consegnare informazioni su Internet in modo affidabile. Tuttavia, esso fa uso di una connessione a percorso singolo, non sfruttando il multihoming e i percorsi multipli che sono sempre più disponibili per i dispositivi endpoint, cioè dispositivi mobili e server in configurazioni ad alta resilienza. Il MultiPath TCP (MPTCP) è stato sviluppato per affrontare queste limitazioni. Esso, infatti, mira a fare uso della diversità dei percorsi, al fine di offrire una migliore connettività di rete complessiva, aumentando così la resilienza ai guasti, eseguendo il bilanciamento del carico tra i percorsi disponibili (quando più di uno è disponibile). Consente, inoltre il supporto multihoming, senza la necessità di modificare i dispositivi già esistenti attualmente sparsi sulla rete.

The major issues with existing military communications are the requirement to improve connectivity between systems. At present there are many bespoke systems used by co-operating nations that are unable to share information because of inter-connectivity problems. The solution requires the use of a common standard that the different nations are willing to implement and use. One network technology that is able to address these problems is the Internet protocol suite. Tactical communications rely heavily on radio links to provide connectivity across the network. Radio links are inherently less reliable than fixed. The aim of this thesis is to study degrading effects at the radio link layer and see how this affects the performance of TCP/IP. The study of the radio link effects concentrated on the distribution of errors (error patterns). The results from radios were compared against standard models and revealed a discrepancy between radios and the models. The military radio showed characteristics that were very different from any of the standard models hence a new burst error model was developed that could mimic these error patterns. The next stage of the study was to observe how these burst errors affect the data link layer protocols. A hypothesis was proposed that burst errors would improve the performance of unprotected packet but adversely affect FEC. This was proven to be true, but the effect is only really noticeable at the point where the throughput collapses. The results also showed that the worst case to study for unprotected packets was random errors not burst errors. The IP layer has no recovery mechanism, it is Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) that provides the reliability. TCP contains several mechanisms to handle lost packet detection, retransmission and congestion management. The performance of each of the algorithms was tested in the presence of errors to determine which combination produced the highest throughput. A number of network restrictions where also detailed, the round trip time delay should be less than 9 seconds and the residual bit error rate should be better than 1 in 10.;Various ways of separating congestioncontrol and corruption were considered to try and improve the performance of TCP in the presence of errors. These mechanisms were TCP Vegas, a modified version of Vegas and Packet Pair measurement. Both the Modified Vegas and Packet Pair Control produced throughputs that were better than standard TCP in the presence of errors. The Modified Vegas produced very good results under congestion, again better than standard TCP. The other approach that was considered for improving the performance of TCP was to change the links to reduce the errors that effect the performance rather than changing TCP to handle errors. The use of ARQ greatly improved the throughput. The use of ARQ increased the variance in the round trip time which has a major impact on the time delay sensitive algorithms such as Vegas and Modified Vegas. It is recommended that a combination of Modified Vegas and ARQ is not used. From the results it is clear that there could be interaction effects between different protocol layers. Burst bit error may or may not produce burst packet losses. Pulse errors can have a dramatic impact on the throughput of TCP. The time delay variance introduced by ARQ can greatly effect time sensitive congestion control mechanisms such as Vegas. Hence with any system it is necessary to consider all layers not just the performance of a single layer under some arbitrary condition.

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the dominating end-to-end protocol on the Internet today, carrying approximately 90% of the total traffic. TCP appear in numerous clones (e.g. Reno, Vegas, Sack etc.) all with different features and advantages but with maximal throughput as main objective (obeying fairness constraints). The performance of a protocol for varying network conditions and settings can effectively be evaluated using simulations. The free discrete network simulator NS-2 provides a dynamic simulation environment including several common TCP implementations. The software NS-2 is the result of an on-going effort of research and development and is hence not a finished product. The task in this masters’ thesis is to coordinate the (in NS-2) existing TCP implementations and develop, implement and thoroughly document a generic TCP protocol collecting existing protocols and where crucial algorithms easily can be manipulated for future experimental validation. The new implementation will be used for evaluating performance of existing and new TCP-versions.

Resumen
Reliable transport protocols such as TCP are tuned to perform well in traditional networks where packet losses occur mostly because of congestion. TCP is intended for use as a highly reliable end-to-end transport protocol for transporting applications such as World-Wide Web (WWW) between hosts in packet-switched computer communication networks. TCP was originally designed for wired links where the error rate is really low and actually assumed that packet losses are due to congestion in the network. However, the increasing popularity of wireless networks indicates that wireless links will play more important role in future internetworks but TCP performance in such networks suffers from significant throughput degradation and very high interactive delays. TCP responds to all losses by invoking congestion control and avoidance algorithms, resulting in degraded end-to-end performance in wireless and lossy systems. Thus, in a bid to show and determine the possibility of adapting TCP protocol for optimal performance on the wireless link, this paper reviews and models the behaviors of TCP variants with a view to evaluate the end-to-end performance analysis of TCP versions: TCP Reno, TCP SACK and TCP Westwood (TCPW), which are designed to improve the performance of TCP in lossy networks. A wireless network model was developed using NS-2 network simulator which and the model was simulated. The results were analyzed in MATLAB 6.5 using throughput as a metric for comparison. The overall results indicate that TCP Westwood (TCPW) demonstrates better performance indices over other versions in a hybrid wireless network environment.

Resumen
Abstract Twisted and coiled polymer (TCP) actuators have gained attention for their high load carrying capacities in small and confined spaces, such as robotic arms to actuate fingers or wearable orthotic devices. There are many types of TCP actuators and one of them is constructed using silver-coated nylon thread in-house using simple fabrication process. However, their slow actuation speed limited the practical applications in robotics. Fast contraction of TCPs can be achieved by actuating at higher voltage, but cooling methods for fast removal of heat from the actuator is needed to quickly return to its resting position. In this paper, we present the behavior of 6-ply TCP actuators with active cooling, establish a model of the system, and formulate a position control algorithm for achieving rapid and precise control of these actuators. The findings indicated that active cooling of TCP actuators can substantially enhance their actuation speed, rendering them more appropriate for practical robotic applications.

Resumen
Abstract Subsea pipelines are prone to be damaged by the falling objects from ships or offshore platforms, which may result in economic losses and pollution. The dimensions of dent were commonly used to evaluate the impact resistance of pipes made from carbon steel. Thermoplastic composite pipes (TCPs), due to their superior properties including corrosion resistance, thermal insulation, fast installation, etc., are increasingly used as the subsea pipelines. The TCP is made from thermoplastic resins and reinforced by continuous fibers. Because of the brittle nature of carbon fibers and glass fibers, the dimensions of dent are not suitable for assessment of impact resistance of a TCP. In the present work, a procedure was proposed using the internal pressure capacity as an indicator to evaluate the lateral impact resistance of a TCP. First, the internal pressure capacity of an intact TCP was evaluated. Second, a quasi-static simulation was conducted by applying a lateral compression force on the intact TCP using a rigid ball, until one of the composite plies in the reinforcement layer failed. The quasi-static simulation provided an initial estimate of the minimum energy that causes the start of damage of the TCP. Third, the impact simulations were performed by using a rigid ball hitting the TCP and, then, the internal pressure capacity of the damaged TCP was evaluated. Finally, the internal pressure capacity of the damaged pipe, compared with that of the intact pipe, was used as an indicator to evaluate the lateral impact resistance of the TCP. In this study, a glass-fiber reinforced polyethylene (PE) pipe of an inner diameter of 150 mm was modeled by ABAQUS to illustrate the procedure. A theoretical method was proposed to calculate the impact energy of a dropped object in a shallow water. The example studied in the present work showed that the modeled TCP was not strong enough to survive the lateral impact caused by the dropped object and should be buried to a certain depth beneath the seabed if used as a subsea pipeline.
