‘Badging’ is the awarding of a digital badge that represents an accomplishment, interest or affiliation (Gibson, Ostashewski, Flintoff, Grant, & Knight, 2013). Such badges are awarded and stored online, and may contain metadata to clarify the context and criteria of the awarded badge. Badging is generally argued to be a considerable motivator in learning (Gibson et al., 2015; Mah, 2016), not only in the formal educational environment but particularly in the gamification movement (Nah, Zeng, Telaprolu, Ayyappa, & Eschenbrenner, 2014; Glover, 2013). Current issues with digital badging systems suggest limitations in adapting to the needs of both tauira and teachers.
The driving forces behind this study were two-fold. Firstly, as digital badging is used increasingly in schools world-wide as a motivator for learning in both primary and secondary school contexts, how might the use of digital badges be modelled in teacher education courses; and secondly, are digital badges of similar value to tauira in the tertiary space? The third driver was to explore ways to engage both undergraduate and postgraduate tauira in meaningful synthesis of their course readings, course content and teaching experience.
This study developed and trialled the incorporation of an existing ‘badging’ platform, Badgr, into tasks delivered through CANVAS in the context of teacher education. The primary aims of the study were: to determine how motivated tertiary tauira were by digital badges; to establish a digital badging process that was both engaging for tauira and manageable for the lecturer; and to design online tasks that scaffolded tauira through their synthesis of course readings, content and experience. The badged tasks were administered via the Discussion and Quizzes features within CANVAS, with all tauira submissions being moderated by the lecturer before any badges were awarded. An overview of the structure, key elements, findings and implications of the trialled approach will be presented.

The Māui Mua project investigated the experiences of six tauira Māori graduates who were the first in their whānau to enter tertiary education. Successful graduates of the Bachelor of Māori Language and Indigenous Studies at Te Puna Wānaka at Ara Institute of Canterbury Ltd (Ara) were interviewed about their learning experience, from their first day through to graduating, and commented on their motivation to study, their times of struggle and pressure, and their supports and strategies to overcome barriers to successfully complete their qualification. The learning experiences of tauira Māori were analysed using a framework informed by the Māui narrative. An outcome of this analysis was a better understanding of key factors that influence the learning journey at Ara for tauira Māori. In addition, the findings of this study informed the Māui Te Tauira pastoral support and mentoring programme and teaching practice at Ara, and guided programme design and delivery to support Māori achievement.

We outline a practical approach to psychodynamic formulation to show how useful it can be within the demands of ordinary clinical practice. To do so, we break down the components of a dynamic formulation using a variety of examples. We draw on the Triangle of Insight (Jacobs, 2006) and the Triangle of Persons (Malan, 1979) as our main model of formulation and compare it to other approaches. By doing so, we aim to illustrate how formulation is a flexible, effective tool for therapeutic assessment. The article also outlines a way of thinking through written case formulation, discussed primarily through an extended case example.

INTRODUCTION: This article introduces the qualitative research design of a research report completed in 2019 that focused on collaborative bicultural social work practice in Aotearoa New Zealand. A major focus of this article is the relationship between the Pākehā researcher (and tauira) and the Māori social work research supervisor. Therefore, reflective accounts are provided throughout the article where we have emphasised the value of the supervision process and bicultural collaborative relationship. METHODS: The research utilised social constructivist theory and a decolonising, Te Tiriti o Waitangi lens. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews with four registered social workers. An integrated narrative approach to analysis allowed for multiple narrative levels to be considered. The researcher and supervisor modelled a collaborative bicultural relationship in the research design process. FINDINGS: The article presents the process of research design and a critical reflection on the challenges and benefits of a collaborative bicultural supervision relationship. We argue that an interrogation of the cultural positioning of the researcher and supervisor is essential in research design in Aotearoa New Zealand. These were also reflected in the findings reported in a separate article in this issue (Deverick & Mooney, 2023). IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE, RESEARCH OR POLICY: Reflections of bicultural research will be of interest, particularly to other Pākehā, Tauiwi tauira interested in exploring how they can contribute to the bicultural discourse in research. Research supervisors may also be interested.

A number of scholars acknowledge the rich resources contained within the wisdom, traditions and knowledge of Indigenous peoples for therapeutic healing. Repositories of collective ancient wisdom may well represent an underutilised resource for coping with challenges and trauma at the levels of both the individual and community. This article argues that the Bible is such a source as it contains a number of trauma narratives which can help in working with clients dealing with trauma. This article explores the Tutu te Puehu model proposed by Ngati Pāoa leader Glen Tupuhi. This Indigenous model that draws on the story of Joseph (Gen. 37–50), a biblical narrative that offers insights in terms of dealing with trauma and reconciliation, centred on the seven occasions that Joseph is said to weep. The model draws on the insights and the convergence of three distinct strands of Glen Tupuhi’s training and experience: his knowledge of te ao Māori, his Christian spirituality and worldview, and his experience in the areas of justice and health.

In this article, the authors examine the ethical issues involved in the use of case studies by health professionals when presenting research, specifically focusing on how informed consent is obtained from or, rather, negotiated with the client. It is argued that collecting personal information for the purposes of healing is not the same as collecting it for the purposes of research and, therefore, that informed and voluntary consent for this use is essential. The theoretical principles covering ethics in research are discussed in relation to the use of case studies in publications, based on international codes and declarations, on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and framed in a relational paradigm. Practical considerations and recommendations for those writing for journals and, specifically, this journal, are presented and promoted.

Clinical signs and lesions of Taura syndrome virus (TSV) infection in Penaeus monodon were investigated by histological and in situ hybridization (ISH) analyses. Mortality among P. monodon inoculated with 2 genotypic variants of TSV (Th04Pm and Th04Lv) appeared on Day 3, with 2 out of 10 shrimp dying. Severe necrosis of cuticular epithelial cells and lymphoid organ spheroids, indicative of acute and chronic phase lesions of TSV infection, respectively, were detected in the samples. Both Th04Pm and Th04Lv belonged to a phylogenetic family of Asian TSV isolates. The results demonstrate that both mortality and histological lesions are associated with TSV infection in P. monodon.Infection with 4 genotypic variants of TSV (Bz01, Th04, UsHi94, and Ve05) in TSV-resistant (TSR) and TSV-susceptible (Kona) Litopenaeus vannamei was investigated. Survival probabilities of TSR shrimp were higher than those for Kona shrimp with all 4 variants. Th04, UsHi94, and Ve05 gave no Taura syndrome lesions with TSR shrimp. In contrast, TSR shrimp challenged with Bz01 and Kona shrimp with all 4 TSV variants exhibited severe necrosis of cuticular epithelial cells and lymphoid organ spheroids. Real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) revealed that mean TSV copy numbers in TSR shrimp infected with Bz01, Th04, and UsHi94 were significantly (p < 0.0005) lower than those in Kona shrimp. In contrast, mean TSV copy numbers in TSR and Kona shrimp infected with Ve05 were not significantly different (p > 0.4). The results show that TSR L. vannamei are susceptible to infection but give high survival rates following challenge by all 4 variants of TSV.To identify the viral replication site within shrimp infected cells, the viral RNA was located in association with virus-induced membrane rearrangement by electron microscopic ISH. Ultrastructure in the infected cells, analyzed by transmission electron microscopy, included the induction and proliferation of intracellular vesicle-like membranes, while the intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies and pyknotic nuclei were frequently seen. TSV RNA and TSV particles were found to be associated with the membranous structures. The results suggest that the proliferating membranes carry the RNA replication complex and that they are the site of nascent viral RNA synthesis.

Tiivistelmä. Tämän työn aiheena on kohdunkaulan syöpä, joka on maailmanlaajuisesti naisten toisiksi yleisin syöpäsairaus. Työn tavoitteena oli koota yhteen kohdunkaulan syöpään vaikuttavia biologisia tekijöitä sekä siihen liittyviä muutoksia elimistössä. Työ on toteutettu kirjallisuuskatsauksen muodossa.
Työssä käydään läpi yleisesti syövän syntyyn ja kehittymiseen vaikuttavia biologisia tekijöitä sekä tarkastellaan kohdunkaulan syövän taustoja biologisesta näkökulmasta. Työssä käsitellään myös HPV-virusta, joka on kohdunkaulan syövässä tärkein taustatekijä, sekä sen roolia kohdunkaulan syövän synnyssä.
Ihmisen papilloomaviruksen biologiaa tutkimalla on pystytty kehittämään mm. HPV-testi ja HPV-rokote. Ne ovat suhteellisen uusia menetelmiä ja välineitä kohdunkaulan syövän esiintyvyyden laskemiseen. Perinteisempiä menetelmiä HPV-infektion ja kohdunkaulan syövän seulonnassa ja hoidossa ovat sytologia ja histologia, joiden avulla soluja ja niiden järjestäytymistä kudoksessa voidaan tarkastella mikroskooppisesti. Työssä käydään läpi näiden eri menetelmien taustoja biologian näkökulmasta.
Lopuksi työssä esitellään HPV-infektion ja kohdunkaulan syövän eri vaiheiden aiheuttamia sytologisia ja histologisia muutoksia elimistössä. Syto- ja histologisia muutoksia on pyritty havainnollistamaan virtuaalimikroskooppikuvien avulla.Abstract. The topic of this thesis is cervical cancer which is the second most common cancer in women worldwide. The aim of this thesis was to review biological factors related to cervical cancer and the changes it causes in the human body. This thesis is in a form of literature review.
Cancer in general, how it arises and develops and cervical cancer in specific are some of the themes of this thesis. One of the themes is the human papilloma virus which is the major cause of cervical cancer.
Studying the biology of HPV has lead to some new approaches such as HPV-test and HPV-vaccine which are relatively new tools in prevention of cervical cancer. More traditional methods in HPV- and cancer screening are cytology and histology, which allow microscopic view of the cells and their organization in tissues. In this thesis these methods are elaborated from a biological point of view.
Cytological and histological changes due to HPV-infection and cervical cancer together with its precursors are being discussed in the last chapter. In addition to description there are images from virtual microscope which aim to demonstrate these cytological and histological changes.

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on lisätä ymmärrystä Menieren tautia sairastavien terveysinformaatiokäyttäytymisestä tarkastelemalla Meniere-potilaiden terveystiedontarpeita, -hankintaa, -lähteitä ja -käyttöä. Menieren tauti on krooninen, mutta ei hengenvaarallinen sairaus, jossa potilaalla on iso rooli sairauden päivittäisessä hoidossa. Tästä aiheesta ei ole aiempaa tutkimusta informaatiotutkimuksen tai -käyttäytymisen näkökulmasta. Laadullisena tutkimusmenetelmänä käytettiin teemahaastattelua. Haastateltavana oli 14 henkilöä. Aineisto analysoitiin sisällönanalyysillä.
Tutkimuksessa ilmeni, että Menieren tautiin liittyvää tietoa haetaan aktiivisesti. Passiivisesti tietoa ei löydy. Tiedontarpeet ovat saman suuntaisia kuin muita tauteja sairastavilla. Terveystiedonhankinta on monipuolista sairauden alussa ja sairauden aktiivisessa vaiheessa. Tietoa hankitaan myös sairauden passiivisessa vaiheessa. Oma kokemus, Suomen Meniere-liiton ja toisten Meniere-potilaiden jakama informaatio sairaudesta ja vertaistuki nähtiin tärkeinä. Lääkäreiltä koetaan saatavan liian niukasti tietoa. Poikkeuksena ovat Menieren tautiin erikoistuneet korvalääkärit. Asiantuntevan tiedon saannilla voi olla suuri merkitys taudin hallinnan saavuttamisessa. Terveystiedonkäyttöön saadaan vaikutteita monista terveystiedonlähteistä, mutta lopulta kokemus omasta voinnista saa muuttamaan käyttäytymistä.
Meniere-potilaiden tiedonsaantiin ja tiedonlähteille ohjaamiseen kannattaa kiinnittää diagnosointivaiheessa tarkempaa huomiota. Tutkimus antaa alustavan kuvan aiheesta. Tarvitaan lisätutkimuksia, jotka voivat antaa yleistettävää tietoa kroonista, ei-hengenvaarallista, mutta potilaan kannalta ikävää tautia sairastavien terveysinformaationkäyttäytymisestä.

Dissertação de Mestrado apresentada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências da Saúde para obtenção do título de Mestre em Ciências da Saúde.Studies are researching immune cell death mechanisms during the course of sepsis in response to pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators that are involved in its pathophysiology. Taurine (Tau) is an abundant amino acid in polymorponuclear leucocytes (PMN) that reacts with hypochlorous acid to form taurine chloramine (TauCl) under inflammatory conditions. In this context, we investigated potential interactions between lymphocytes and TauCl in rats submitted to cecal ligation and perforation (CLP), analyzing cell viability and cytokine secretion profile (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6, IL-17A, IL-23 and IL-10). Adult male rats were divided in two groups (sham and CLP) and then were killed 24 or 120 hours after sepsis induction to isolate lymphocytes from blood and spleen. Lymphocytes (> 95,0% purity determined by differentiation with Giemsa staining) were cultured for 24 hours at a concentration of 1x106 cells/mL and activated by 2 μg/mL concanavalin A (Con-A). After 24 hours, Tau and TauCl were added at concentrations of 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 (mM) for 1 hour. After this time, cells were incubated with MTT (500 μg/mL) for 3 hours to evaluate cell viability and supernatants were used to determine cytokines levels. Cells incubated with Tau exhibited better viability than those incubated with TauCl, in both time and organs. TauCl, in a time and dose-dependent ratio, decreased cytokines secretion (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6, IL-17A, IL-23 and IL-10) when compared to untreated cells. These findings show a possible impairment in lymphocytes function promoted by TauCl, correlated with immunosuppression and cell death characteristic of the late stages of sepsis.

Ratos adultos machos foram divididos em dois grupos (sham e CLP) e subsequentemente mortos 24 ou 120 horas após a indução da sepse para isolamento de linfócitos do sangue e do baço. Linfócitos (> 95,0% de pureza determinada por diferenciação com coloração de Giemsa) foram cultivados por 24 horas a uma concentração de 1x106 células/mL e ativadas com 2 μg/mL de concanavalina A (ConA). Após 24 horas, Tau e TauCl foram adicionadas a concentrações de 0,1, 0,2, 0,3, 0,4 e 0,5 (mM) por uma hora. Após este tempo, as células foram incubadas com MTT (500 μg/mL) por 3 horas para avaliar viabilidade celular e os sobrenatantes foram usados para determinar os níveis de citocinas. Tämän pro gradu -tutkielman tarkoituksena oli tarkastella ja kuvata palvelutalossa asuvien muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutuksen muuttumista viiden viikon muistelutikun käyttämisen aikana yhdessä heidän omaistensa ja hoitajiensa kanssa. Toisena tavoitteena oli kartoittaa muistelutikun mahdollisuutta vuorovaikutusta tukevana menetelmänä. Muistelutikku on muisteluterapiaan perustuva digitaalinen apuväline, jonka vaikutuksia vuorovaikutuksen eri osa-alueille ei ole aikaisemmin tutkittu. Tarkastelen tässä tutkielmassani, miten muistelutikku vaikuttaa muistisairaiden ihmisten verbaalisen ja nonverbaalisen vuorovaikutuksen määrään ja laatuun. Lisäksi tarkastelen, miten muistelutikku toimii vuorovaikutusta tukevana menetelmänä. Pyrin tekemään johtopäätöksiä muistelutikun soveltumisesta muistisairaiden ihmisten heikkenevän vuorovaikutuksen aktivoimiseen, tukemiseen ja kuntouttamiseen.
Tähän tutkimukseen osallistui kaksi tehostetussa palvelutalossa asuvaa keskivaikeaa Alzheimerin tautia sairastavaa henkilöä sekä kaksi heidän omaistaan ja kaksi hoitohenkilökunnan jäsentä. Tutkittavien muistisairaiden ihmisten keski-ikä oli 77,8 vuotta. Tutkimusaineisto koostui kahden arviointikerran tuloksista sekä hoitajien tekemistä muistiinpanoista. Tutkimus toteutettiin kaksivaiheisesti alkuarvioinnilla ja loppuarvioinnilla. Arviointi toteutettiin CETI- ja AKE-mittareilla, jotka omaiset ja hoitajat täyttivät tutkimuksen alussa ja lopussa. Tutkimuksen lopussa omaiset ja hoitajat osallistuivat lisäksi haastatteluun, joka toteutettiin puolistrukturoituna teemahaastatteluna. Kerätty aineisto analysoitiin käyttämällä systemaattista aineistolähtöistä teemahaastattelun analyysia. Tulokset esitettiin taulukoiden ja haastatteluiden katkelmien avulla.
Tutkimuksessa hoitajan tekemien CETI-arvioinnin ja haastatteluiden tulosten perusteella voidaan päätellä, että muistelutikku vaikutti positiivisesti yhden tutkittavan verbaalisen ja nonverbaalisen vuorovaikutuksen määrään ja laatuun. Tutkimus osoitti, että muistelutikku voi toimia muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutusta aktivoivana ja lisäävänä välineenä, mikäli sitä käytetään säännöllisesti. Muistelutikku koettiin pääasiassa mieluisana kokemuksena ja konkreettisena välineenä, joka on helposti lähelle saatavissa. Hoitajien haastatteluiden mukaan muistelutikku auttoi vuorovaikutuksen tukemisessa ja etenkin muistisairaan ihmisen tuntemisessa paremmin. Muistelutikku voi auttaa hoitohenkilökuntaa näkemään muistisairauden takana olevan yksilöllisen ihmisen.
Tämän työn havainnot olivat pääosin samansuuntaisia kuin aikaisemmassa kirjallisuudessa raportoidut tulokset. Tutkimuksen tulosten avulla ei voitu kuitenkaan tehdä yhteneviä johtopäätöksiä muistelutikun merkittävistä positiivista vaikutuksista muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutuksen muuttumiseen tai vuorovaikutuksen tukemiseen etenkään omaisten kanssa. Suurempi otoskoko ja pidempi tutkimusjakso voisivat antaa tarkempaa tieteellistä tutkimusnäyttöä muistelutikun vaikutuksista muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutuksen osa-alueisiin. Tulevaisuudessa muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutuksen tukemisesta ja toimivista menetelmistä olisi tärkeää saada laajempaa tieteellistä tutkimusta, jotta muistisairaiden ihmisten puheterapeuttiset käytänteet kehittyisivät ja muistisairaiden ihmisten vuorovaikutusta pystyttäisi tukemaan parhain päin sairauden edetessä.

Há evidências que pacientes com insuficiência cardíaca são deficientes em muitos micronutrientes, que representam importante papel na manutenção da homeostase do cálcio, no controle do estresse oxidativo e do metabolismo energético-protéico. Estes pacientes podem apresentar necessidades nutricionais que são diferentes daquelas de indivíduos com estado fisiológico normal. A taurina é um destes nutrientes e corresponde a 50% do total de aminoácidos livres do coração. Estudos in vivo mostraram que a deficiência de taurina está associada à cardiomiopatia, à degeneração da retina e ao retardo do crescimento. Foi realizado estudo experimental para analisar a estrutura e a função cardíaca de ratos Wistar com deficiência de taurina induzida por ß-alanina. Foram estudados 34 ratos machos, Wistar, pesando 100g, casualizados em 2 grupos: grupo controle (C), grupo deficiente em taurina (T (-)). O grupo T (-) recebeu 3% de beta-alanina na água para provocar a deficiência de taurina. Após 1 mês de tratamento os animais foram submetidos à avaliação ecocardiográfica, avaliação funcional pelo coração isolado, avaliação morfométrica, avaliação histopatológica, avaliação da atividade das metalloproteinasess e determinação da concentração de taurina no plasma e no tecido cardíaco. A deficiência de taurina por tratamento com solução de ß-alanina resultou em atrofia cardíaca verificada por afinamento da espessura da parede ventricular, menor peso seco do ventrículo esquerdo e por menores valores de área seccional dos miócitos. Micronutrients deficiency is observed in heart failure patients. These micronutrients play important role in maintaining calcium homeostasis, controlling oxidative stress and protein/energy metabolism. Heart failure patients may present different nutritional requirements than those individuals who are healthy. Taurine is one of these nutrients and represents 50% of total free amino acids of the heart. Additionally, in vivo studies have related taurine deficiency to poor growth, cardiomyopathy and retina degeneration. One study was conducted to evaluate the structure and cardiac function of rats with or without taurine deficiency. Thirty-four male Wistar rats (body weight = 100g) were weighed and randomly assigned to 1 of 2 treatments (d 0): Control (C) or taurine-deficient (T (-)). Betaalanine in a concentration of 3% was added to water to induce taurine deficiency in T (-). On d 30, rats were individually submitted to echocardiography, functional assessment of isolated heart, morphometrical, histopathological and metalloproteinase activity evaluation. At the same day individual blood and cardiac tissue samples were collected to determine taurine concentration in plasma and heart. Rats treated T (-) presented cardiac atrophy verified by lower ventricular wall thickness, lesser dry weight of left ventricle, lower myocytes sectional area, eccentric cardiac remodeling verified by larger ventricular cavity (systolic diameter of left ventricle), lower posterior wall thickness of left ventricle and lower ventricular geometry (ratio between the measurements of posterior wall thickness and diastolic diameter of left ventricle). This presentation advances a case study for an ongoing intercultural animation project which seeks to meaningfully educate New Zealand Tauiwi (the country's diverse groups, including migrants and refugees) on the values, customs and protocols (Tikanga) of Māori (the indigenous people of Aotearoa New Zealand). Ako For Niños (‘education for children’), implemented by a migrant social services organisation and media-design team, introduces Latin American Tauiwi to Tikanga through an animated children’s series, developed with a community short story writing competition and co-design with a kaitiaki (Māori guardian/advisor). Māori are recognised in Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the founding document of New Zealand) as partners with Pākeha (European New Zealanders), and Māori knowledge and Tikanga are important to society and culture in Aotearoa. Notwithstanding, there has been a historic lack of attention paid to developing meaningful understandings of Māori perspectives for New Zealand Tauiwi. Ako For Niños endeavours to address current shortages of engaging resources on Māori worldviews for Tauiwi communities, create opportunities for Tauiwi to benefit from Māori epistemologies, and foster healthy community relationships between Māori and Latin American Tauiwi. Through the project’s short story competition, Tauiwi were given definitions of Tikanga through a social media campaign, then prompted to write a children’s tale based on one of these in their native language. This encouraged Tauiwi to gain deeper comprehension of Māori values, and interpret Tikanga into their own expressions. Three winning entries were selected, then adapted into stop-motion and 2D animations. By converting the stories into aesthetically pleasing animated episodes, the Tikanga and narratives could be made more captivating for young audiences and families, appealing to the senses and emotions through visual storytelling, sound-design, and music. The media-design team worked closely with a kaitiaki during this process to better understand and communicate the Tikanga, adapting and co-designing the narratives in a culturally safe process. This ensured Māori knowledge, values, and interests were disseminated in correct and respectful ways. We argue for the importance of creative participation of Tauiwi, alongside co-design with Māori to produce educational intercultural design projects on Māori worldviews. Creative participation encourages new cultural knowledge to be imaginatively transliterated into personal interpretations and expressions of Tauiwi, allowing indigenous perspectives to be made more meaningful. This meaningful engagement with Māori values, which are more grounded in relational and human-centred concepts, can empower Tauiwi to feel more cared for and interconnected with their new home and culture. Additionally, co-design with Māori can help to honour Te Tiriti, and create spaces where Tauiwi, Pākeha and Māori interface in genuine partnership with agency (rangatiratanga), enhancing the credibility and value of outcomes. This session unpacks the contexts informing, and methods undertaken to develop the series, presenting current outcomes and expected directions (including a screening and exhibition). We will also highlight potential for the methodology to be applied in new ways in future, such as with other Tauiwi communities, different cultural knowledge, and increased collaborative co-design with Māori.

Ako For Niños (“Educación para niños”), implementada por una organización de servicios sociales para migrantes y un equipo de diseño de medios, introduce a los Tauiwi latinoamericanos al Tikanga a través de una serie animada para niños, desarrollada con un concurso comunitario de escritura de cuentos y co-diseño con un kaitiaki (tutor/asesor maorí). Los maoríes son reconocidos en el Te Tiriti o Waitangi (documento fundacional de Nueva Zelanda) como socios de Pākeha (neozelandeses europeos), y el conocimiento maorí y Tikanga son importantes para la sociedad y la cultura en Aotearoa. No obstante, ha habido una falta histórica de atención prestada al desarrollo de una comprensión significativa de las perspectivas maoríes para los Tauiwi en Nueva Zelanda (Kukutai y Rata, 2017). Ako For Niños se esfuerza por abordar la escasez actual de recursos atractivos sobre las cosmovisiones maoríes para las comunidades Tauiwi, crear oportunidades para que los Tauiwi se beneficien de las epistemologías maoríes y fomentar relaciones comunitarias saludables entre los maoríes y los Tauiwi latinoamericanos. A través del concurso de cuentos del proyecto, a los Tauiwi se les dieron definiciones del Tikanga a través de una campaña en las redes sociales, y luego se les pidió que escribieran un cuento infantil basado en uno de estos en su idioma nativo. Esto alentó a los Tauiwi a obtener una comprensión más profunda de los valores maoríes e interpretar el Tikanga en sus propias expresiones. Se seleccionaron tres escritos ganadores, luego se adaptaron a animaciones en 2D y stop-motion. Al convertir las historias en episodios animados estéticamente agradables, el Tikanga y las narrativas podrían ser más cautivadoras para el público joven y las familias, apelando a los sentidos y las emociones a través de la narración visual, el diseño de sonido y la música. El equipo de diseño de medios trabajó en estrecha colaboración con un kaitiaki durante este proceso, para comprender y comunicar mejor el Tikanga, adaptando y codiseñando las narrativas en un proceso culturalmente seguro. Esto aseguró que el conocimiento, los valores y los intereses de los maoríes se difundieran de manera correcta y respetuosa. Defendemos la importancia de la participación creativa del Tauiwi, junto con el co-diseño con los maoríes para producir proyectos educativos de diseño intercultural sobre las cosmovisiones maoríes. La participación creativa fomenta la transliteración imaginativa de nuevos conocimientos culturales en interpretaciones y expresiones personales del Tauiwi, lo que permite que las perspectivas indígenas sean más significativas. Este compromiso significativo con los valores maoríes, que se basan más en conceptos relacionales y centrados en el ser humano (Brannelly et al., 2013; Kukutai y Rata, 2017), puede empoderar a los Tauiwi para que se sientan más cuidados e interconectados con su nuevo hogar y cultura. Además, el co-diseño con maoríes puede ayudar a honrar a Te Tiriti y crear espacios donde los Tauiwi, Pākeha y maoríes interactúen en una asociación genuina con la agencia (rangatiratanga), mejorando la credibilidad y el valor de los resultados. Esta sesión desentraña los contextos que informan y los métodos adoptados para desarrollar la serie, presentando los resultados actuales y las direcciones esperadas (incluida una proyección y una exhibición). También destacaremos el potencial para que la metodología se aplique de nuevas maneras en el futuro, así como con otras comunidades Tauiwi, diferentes conocimientos culturales y un mayor co-diseño colaborativo con los maoríes.

Miten erilaiset mallit yksilöllisen tuen järjestämiseksi, kuten henkilökohtainen budjetti, voivat vahvistaa vammaisten henkilöiden oikeuksia koskevan YK:n yleissopimuksen toimeenpanoa? Henkilökohtaisella budjetilla tarkoitetaan rahasummaa tai varoja, jotka määritellään henkilölle hänen tarpeenarvioinnissaan tunnistettuun tarkoitukseen. Budjetin varat voi käyttää tarvitsemiinsa palveluihin. Henkilökohtainen budjetti on käytössä sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollossa useassa maassa. Pohjoismaissa henkilökohtainen apu on ensisijainen esimerkki tämänkaltaisista ratkaisuista, mutta myös muita malleja on kokeiltu ja otettu käyttöön sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollossa, esimerkiksi valinnanvapausjärjestelmiä ja enemmän mahdollisuuksia palvelunkäyttäjille valita palveluntuottaja. Raportissa esitellään Pohjoismaissa käytettäviä malleja yksilöllisen tuen järjestämiseksi vammaisille henkilöille ja kokemuksia niistä. Kartoitus on toteutettu Pohjoismaiden hyvinvointikeskuksen ja suomalaisen Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitoksen (THL) yhteistyönä. Raporttia tullaan hyödyntämään tausta-aineistona, kun vammaisten palveluja koskevaa lainsäädäntöä uudistetaan Suomessa.

From the 21st to the 24th of August, the inaugural Indigidata Aotearoa 2023 was held at Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato. In recent years there has been significant advances in the fields of Indigenous data science and sovereignty. The Indigidata Aotearoa programme was designed to develop an understanding of Indigenous data science and sovereignty alongside some of the best researchers in Aotearoa New Zealand. The fully funded wānanga was open to Māori (tauira, kaitiaki, kaipakihi) participants from across Aotearoa. Applications were received from more than 35 respondents, and 23 tauira Māori attended the inaugural event.
