The diploma thesis concentrates on the stress that the vast majority of employees face today. The thesis analyzes the various types of stress, its indication and manifestation. Furthemore, the factors that contribute to stress, their identification and elimination are also discussed. The focus of the thesis is on the theoretical analyzis of the problems. Moreover, it measures the stressors on the workplace, too. Specifically, it evaluates the level of stress in P&L spol. s.r.o. In the conclusion, the recommendations that decrease the detected stress factors are given.

The theoretical part is focused on definition of basic concepts of stress and common techniques of coping and reduction of stress. The practical part provides a measurement of certain level of work-related stress in Henkel Slovensko, spol. s r.o. company based on questionnaire survey. The conclusion of the thesis contains the recommendations focused on reduction of certain stress factors´ impact and precaution of formation of work-related stress.

Magistro darbe buvo atlikta teorinė mokslinės literatūros analizė apie stresą, jo įveikos būdus, mokyklinį stresą ir jo įveikimą, mokinių paauglystės psichologinius ypatumus. Taip pat nagrinėti autorių darbai apie mokyklinio streso įveikos stilius ir naudojamas strategijas. Iškelta hipotezė, kad vyresnių klasių mokinių naudojami streso įveikos stiliai skiriasi, lyginant specialiųjų ugdymo(-si) poreikių turinčius mokinius ir jų bendraamžius. Anketinės apklausos metodu buvo atliktas tyrimas, kurio tikslas – ištirti vyresnių klasių mokinių, turinčių specialiųjų ugdymo(-si) poreikių, streso įveikos ypatumus. Atlikta statistinė (aprašomoji vidurkių, koreliacijų) duomenų analizė. Tyrime dalyvavo 216 bendrojo lavinimo mokyklų vyresnių klasių mokinių, iš kurių 114 – mokiniai, turintys specialiųjų ugdymo(-si) poreikių, 102 – jų bendraamžiai. Empirinėje dalyje nagrinėjami vyresnių klasių specialiųjų ugdymo(-si) poreikių turinčių mokinių ir jų bendraamžių naudojami streso įveikos stiliai; patikimo mokytis mokykloje, mokymosi rezultatų ir mokyklinio streso įveikos stilių ryšiai; vyresnių klasių mokinių mokyklinio streso įveikos ypatumai. Svarbiausios empirinio tyrimo išvados: 1. Mokiniai, neturintys specialiųjų ugdymo(-si) poreikių, dažniau renkasi adaptyvaus vengimo mokyklinio streso įveikos stilių. 2. Master thesis performed a theoretical analysis of scientific literature on stress, school stress, the coping methods, psychological characteristics of adolescent students. Also it was analyzed styles and strategies of school stress coping. Hypothesis, that high school students’ used styles of stress coping are different compared to the students with special educational needs and their peers. The study was conducted the questionnaire method. Research destination – investigate stress coping characteristics of high school students with special educational needs. It was conducted the statistical (descriptive averages, correlations) data analysis. The study included 216 general education high school students, of which 114 - students with special education needs, 102 - their peers. The empirical part deals with high school special education (learning) needs of students and their peers used stress coping styles; connections between styles of school stress coping, pleasant to learn at school and learning outcomes; characteristics of high school students’ stress coping. Tyrimo tikslas – įvertinti širdies ir kraujagyslių ligomis (ŠKL) sergančių asmenų savigarbos, agresyvumo ir streso įveikos sąsajas. Tyrime dalyvavo 161 asmuo – 86 vyrai (53,4 proc.) ir 75 moterys (46,6 proc.). Tiriamąją grupę sudarė 78 reabilitacijoje besigydantys pacientai. Palyginamąją grupę sudarė 83 sveiki asmenys. Tiriamųjų amžiaus svyravo nuo 19 iki 75 metų (50,81 ± 12,75). Tyrimo metu išanalizuotos streso įveikos, savigarbos ir agresyvumo charakteristikos bei sąsajos abejose grupėse. Tiriamųjų streso įveikos strategijų įvertinimui naudota Ž. Grakausko ir G. Valicko sudaryta streso įveikos vertinimo metodika. Tiriamųjų savigarbai nagrinėti naudota M. Rosenberg savigarbos skalė (The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale). Agresyvumo analizei tiriamiesiems buvo pateiktas A. Bass - Darki klausimynas. Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad tiriamųjų, sergančių ŠKL, savigarbos rodikliai žemesni nei sveikų respondentų. Nėra skirtumo tarp sergančių ŠKL ir sveikų tiriamųjų fizinės ir verbalinės agresijos charakteristikų. Sergantieji ŠKL ir sveiki tyrimo dalyviai vienodai dažnai naudoja vengimo ir su socialine parama susijusias streso įveikos strategijas. Tiriamųjų, sergančių ŠKL, į problemą orientuotų streso įveikos strategijų naudojimas nesusijęs su savigarbos rodikliais. The aim of the study was to evaluate the connection between self-esteem, aggression and stress coping of cardiovascular patients. 161 people participated in the research: 86 men (53.4%) and 75 women (46.6%). 78 patients in rehabilitation formed the experimental group. The control group was formed from 83 healthy people. The age of the participants ranged from 19 to 75 (50,81 ± 12,75). During the research, the characteristics and connection between self-esteem, stress coping and agression were analysed in both groups. For evaluating stress coping strategies, the methodology for evaluation of stress coping by Ž. Grakauskas and G. Valickas was used. For self-esteem, The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale was applied, while Bass-Darky questionnaire was employed in order to analyse aggressiveness. The research results have demonstrated that self-esteem indicators were lower for the cardio-vascular patients than for healthy respondents. Besides, there is no difference between physical and verbal aggression characteristics of cardiovascular patients and healthy people. Both, the experimental group and the control group, use the avoidance strategy and the strategies related to social support in coping with stress. The usage of problem-oriented stress coping strategies of cardiovascular patients is not related to self-esteem indicators. Master's thesis deals with the stress applied to the employee in a work process in the company ABC, Ltd. It focuses on the factors that cause stress. It examines its manifestations and effects on health and work performance of employees. The theoretical part includes an overview of this issue. The practical part is analytical, processing questionnaires students - future employees and current employees. Visions of students at secondary and university level of stress that occurs in the process, are compared to the fact how stress manifests itself directly to employees in working conditions. Resumen
This dissertation identifies factors causing the burnout syndrome, which occur especially in the area of work career. It discusses risks that cause the burnout syndrome and the possibilities of its prevention. The theoretical part analyses particular aspects of burnout and describes career as a significant part of human life. The second part of the dissertation evaluates research that was conducted in a chosen organisation. Findings regarding a stress prevention programme are discussed in the second part, as well as the topic of how ready participants are to use the gained knowledge in real life. The paper also assesses how employees and their supervisors evaluate the stress prevention programme. The purpose of this dissertation is to analyse the effectiveness of the stress prevention programme and its impacts. Some suggestions of possible improvements within the programme are also mentioned.

O presente estudo mostra os resultados de uma intervenção baseada na psicologia para a gestão do stresse em enfermeiros. Surge de uma amostra de três enfermeiras que responderam a instrumentos de avaliação quantitativa e qualitativa. A intervenção consistiu na aplicação do programa “Gestão Otimista do Stresse”, administrado em diferentes momentos de acordo com o desenho experimental de linha de base múltipla. Procurou-se dotar os enfermeiros de ferramentas para diminuir os níveis de stresse e consequentemente adquirirem competências. Especificamente pretendeu-se ensinar técnicas para lidar com stresse através de programas de treino e posteriormente verificar a sua eficácia. Os resultados obtidos sugerem que a intervenção permite uma diminuição dos níveis de stresse, porém as limitações centraram-se no tamanho da amostra, no horário pós-laboral e na falta de seguimento. As hipóteses foram comprovadas quase na sua totalidade, reforçando a ideia de que deveriam ser implementados programas de gestão do stresse no setor público; ABSTRACT: Optimistic stress management: a pilot study of the application of a program with portuguese nurses The current study shows the results of a psychology based intervention for the stress management in nurses. It arises from a sample of three nurses who answered to quantitative and qualitative evaluation instruments. The intervention consisted on the application of the program “Optimistic Stress Management”, applied at different times according to the multiple baseline experimental design. We sought to provide the nurses with tools to reduce stress levels and, consequently, to acquire skills. Specifically, it was intended to teach techniques to deal with stress through training programs, and later to verify their effectiveness. The results suggest that the intervention allows a reduction of the stress levels, however the limitations were centered on the sample size, on the post-work hours and lack of follow-up. The hypotheses have been proven almost in their totality, reinforcing the idea that stress management programs should be implemented in the public sector.

Metodika: Tyrimas buvo atliekamas 2012 metų rugsėjo-gruodžio mėnesiais Mykolo Romerio universitete (MRU). Tyrimui atlikti naudotas apklausos metodas, duomenų rinkimo instrumentu pasirinktas klausimynas raštu. Tyrimo imtį sudarė atsitiktiniu būdu atrinkti MRU studentai. MRU populiacija yra 22 000, taikant 5 proc. paklaidą apskaičiuota, kad siekiant gauti statistiškai reikšmingus rezultatus reikia apklausti 519 studentų. Iš viso užpildyta 509 klausimynai, 10 klausimynų buvo sugadinti arba negražinti. Apklausti visų kursų studentai – tiek bakalaurai, tiek magistrantai. Tiriamųjų amžius – nuo 19 iki 35 metų. Tyrime dalyvavo 369 (72,5 proc.) moterys ir 140 (27,5 proc.) vyrų. Tyrimo organizavimas buvo grindžiamas savanoriškumo ir genoriškumo principais. Rezultatų apdorojimui buvo naudojamas programinis statistinių duomenų paketas SPSS 20.0. Tyrimo duomenys laikyti statistiškai patikimais, jei p<0,05. Rezultatai: Stresas, tai organizmo būsena, kuri atsiranda dėl įvykių, kuriuos asmuo laiko grėsmingais ir sunkiai įveikiamais. Stresoriai skirstomi į tris veiksnių grupes: fizinius, socialinius ir psichologinius. Stresas didina fizinės ir psichinės sveikatos sutrikimų riziką ir mažina atsparumą neigiamam aplinkos poveikiui. Dažniausiai streso įveikimo strategijos skirstomos į problemą ir į emocijas orientuotus įveikimo būdus. Methods: investigation was carried out September 2012 to December 2012 in the university of Mykolas Romeris. For investigation was used survey method, data collection instrument selected written questionnaire. The investigation consists of randomly selected students from university of Mykolas Romeris. The population of university Mykolas Romeris is 22 000, with a 5 percent error calculatedin order to obtain statistically significant results 519 students should be surveyed. Completing a total of 509 questionnaire, 10 questionnaire has been damaged or does not return. Interviewed all of the courses students - both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Investigated age of students is from 19 till 35 years old. Investigation included 369 (72,5 percent) women and 140 (27,5 percent) men. Organization of the investigation was based on a voluntary and benevolence principles. Proccesing of the results consisted of statistical software package for data SPSS 20.0 Survey data was considered statistically reliable if p < 0.05 Results: stress is the body's reacton caused by events that persons find sinister and difficult to overcome. Stressors are devided into three groups of factors: physical, social and psychological. Stress increases physical and mental health risks and reduces resistance to environmental stress. Stressrelaterade långtidssjukskrivningar har ökat radikalt på senare år i Sverige. Vi vill med den här studien göra verksamma pedagoger medvetna om stress och hur det kan påverka deras arbete. Studiens syfte är att undersöka stress i förskolans verksamhet. Vi anser att stress är ett högaktuellt ämne eftersom det dagligen går att läsa om i media. I vår studie har vi använt oss av en kvalitativ metod med semistrukturerade intervjuer där vi intervjuat 6 pedagoger på 3 förskolor i södra Sverige. Studiens resultat visar på att pedagoger mer eller mindre upplever stress i någon form i förskolan. En utmärkande faktor är stora barngrupper då pedagogerna upplever att de inte räcker till i sitt arbete med barnen. Pedagogerna upplever att de ställer för höga krav på sig själva i arbetet. En annan faktor är att det lätt blir hög ljudvolym vilket skapar stress hos både pedagoger och barn. Pedagogerna upplever att de har kunskap om barns stressreaktioner och hur stress visar sig hos barnen. Några av pedagogerna i vår studie påtalar att det finns metoder och redskap för att minska stress som några arbetar aktivt med i verksamheten.

Siekiant geriau suprasti verslo organizacijų darbuotojų patiriamą darbinį stresą ir pasitenkinimą darbu, jų ryšio nustatymas pasirinktas šio tyrimo tikslu. Kad jį atskleistume, naudojome tris metodikas: Veiksnių, Sukeliančių Stresą Darbe, Įvertinimo Klausimyną (Gulbinaitė, 2007), Pasitenkinimo Darbu Skalę (Spector, 1985) ir Streso Įveikos Klausimyną (Grakauskas, Valickas, 2006), kuriomis ištirta 118 tiriamųjų. Gauti rezultatai parodė, jog vyrai, labiau nei moterys, patiria didesnį darbinį stresą, susijusį su darbo reikalavimais bei darbo santykiais. Tuo tarpu moterys, skirtingai nuo vyrų, patiria didesnį pasitenkinimą darbu, susijusį su darbo organizavimu. Skirtumų tarp jaunesnių (18-25m.) ir vyresnių (26-40m.) tiriamųjų darbinio streso ir pasitenkinimo darbu nenustatyta. Tačiau rasta, jog vyrų ir moterų grupėse darbiniam stresui didėjant, pasitenkinimas darbu mažėja. Taip pat gauta, jog ne visos streso įveikos strategijos susijusios tarpusavyje, su darbiniu stresu ir pasitenkinimu darbu. Nustatyta, jog trijose tiriamųjų, patirianči���� skirtingą darbinį stresą ir pasitenkinimą darbu, grupėse naudojamos streso įveikos strategijos skiriasi tik iš dalies.
In order to understand better the job stress and job satisfaction experienced by workers in business organizations, its link is chosen as the aim of this study. For this reason, there were used three methods: The Evaluations Questionnaire of Variables, That Cause Job Stress (Gulbinaite, 2007), Job Satisfaction Scale (Spector, 1985) and Coping with Stress Questionnaire (Grakauskas, Valickas, 2006). 118 participants took part in this study. The results indicated that men comparing with women experience a bigger job stress, connected with job requirements and job relations. Whereas women, differently than men, experience a bigger job satisfaction, connected with job planning. It was also found that there are no differences of job stress and job satisfaction in groups of younger (18-25 years) and older (26-40 years) participants. Moreover, the results indicated, that when job stress is going up, the job satisfaction is going down in men and women groups. Besides, just some stress coping strategies are interdependent, have connection with job stress and job satisfaction. Finally, stress coping strategies differ just in part in three participants groups, who experience different job stress and job satisfaction.

The effects of occupational stress on public servants who seek to protect and maintain security for the general public have begun to receive more attention in recent years. Most of this research has focused on police officers. Much less attention has been directed towards other first responders (i.e., firefighters, paramedics) except in comparisons with police samples or inclusion in mixed first responder groups. Investigative efforts that specifically target firefighters and their unique responses to occupational stress, the vulnerabilities of negative responses to stress, and the variables that enhance and maintain resiliency in these first responders is limited. Moreover, cardiovascular risk has been recognized in firefighters. However research has been focused on examining physical variables related to this risk with little attention to psychological contributions, particularly the role of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) on cardiovascular disease (CVD). The goals of the current investigation were to (1) review research that has been conducted on stress in firefighters, (2) examine the effects of job stress, length of service, and critical incidents on developing PTSD and CVD risk (3) evaluate the relationship between PTSD and CVD risk in firefighters (4) increase our understanding of the manifestations of stress in this population, and (5) provide organizations and treatment providers potentially useful information for developing and improving assessment and intervention strategies. Firefighters from the Broward Sheriff's Office special operations teams (N=87) were the participants. Self-report measures and annual physical examination data provided information regarding CVD risk (weight, height, blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, physical exercise), job stress, trauma exposure, service length, and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Results indicated statistically significant relationships between PTSD symptomatology and current smoking status, triglycerides levels, and the number of CVD risk factors. Neither the number of experienced critical incidents, nor the number of service years was associated with PTSD symptomatology. Organizational job stress variables were associated with PTSD symptoms, but not directly with CVD risk. Collectively these findings suggest the reaction to traumatic experiences may be a better indicator of PTSD symptom development, than the actual number of traumatic events experienced. Moreover, the presence of PTSD symptoms may negatively influence overall CVD risk.

The work explains what stress is, which are the causes of its emergence, how increased stress load can influence us and how to manage stress. In the practical part I will compare the scale of stress load between different groups of students and on the basis of this analysis I will specify the most frequent factors that stress students the most. In conclusion, I will formulate specific recommendations, how stress can be reduced.

Tyrime dalyvavo 115 18-52 metų vyrai (n=43, 37,4 proc.) ir moterys (n=72, 62,6 proc.). Tyrimui respondentai buvo atrinkti atsitiktinės atrankos būdu. Tai buvo ir KTU, ir VDU studentai, taip pat skirtingų profesijų ir amžiaus asmenys. Streso įveikimo strategijoms įvertinti buvo naudojama C. S. Carver, M. F. Scheier ir J. K. Weintraub streso įveikimo strategijų klausimynas (COPE), žalingiems tyrimo dalyvių įpročiams nustatyti naudotas prof. A. Goštauto subjektyvaus sveikatos vertinimo ir svaigalų vartojimo klausimynas, fiziniam aktyvumui nustatyti buvo suformuluota keletas klausimų. Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad fiziškai aktyvių ir pasyvių vyrų ir moterų žalingų įpročių išreikštumas nesiskiria. Ilgiau ir trumpiau užsiimančių sportine veikla ir dažniau bei rečiau per savaitę sportuojančių vyrų ir moterų žalingų įpročių išreikštumas nesiskiria. Streso įveikimo strategijų naudojimas tarp skirtingo fizinio aktyvumo vyrų ir moterų nesiskiria. Dažniau ir rečiau per savaitę sportuojantys tiek vyrai, tiek moterys yra linkę pritaikyti adaptyvesnes streso įveikimo strategijas. The aim of the study was to assess the addictions and physical activity and stress coping strategies associations of men's and women's. The subjects of the study were 115 men (n=43, 37,4 per cent) and women (n=72, 62,6 per cent) 18 – 52 years old. The respondents for research work were selected at random. It were students of various universities and people of different age and professions. C. S. Carver, M. F. Scheier and J. K. Weintraub’s stress coping strategies questionnaire (COPE) was used for evaluation of the stress coping strategies. Professor A. Goštautas’s subjective assessment of health and drug use questionnaire were used for evaluation as well and besides several questions were formulated for pointing out physical activity. The results of the study showed that physically active and passive men’s and women’s addictions are not different. There is no difference in addictions between men and women more or less practice in sports activities they have or more or less frequently per week they go in for sports. The use of stress coping strategies between men and women with different physical activity are the same. These two groups are disposed to use more adaptive stress coping strategies whether they more or less often do sports. The work described in this thesis considers the application of thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) to the assessment of residual stresses in metallic materials. Residual stresses exist within almost all engineering components and structures. They are an unavoidable consequence of manufacturing processes and may cause the premature and catastrophic failure of a component when coupled with in-service stresses. Alternatively, beneficial residual stress may be introduced to enhance the component performance. Greater knowledge of residual stress and its evolution, will not only provide an opportunity to improve component manufacture and design, but may allow the potential life extension of current structures beyond their design life. Techniques for measuring residual stresses can be divided into two main groups. Destructive methods involve removing material, measuring the mechanical strain relaxation and back calculating the residual stress. These techniques are generally cheaper and more portable, but are not appropriate in many circumstances due to modification and damage to the component. Non-destructive techniques do not damage the component, but are typically more expensive, less portable and can require complicated calibration procedures to correctly interpret results. TSA is a well established non-contacting experimental stress analysis technique that is quick and portable, and the presence of residual stress is known to modify the thermoelastic response. However, this change is very small and of the order of the noise threshold and resolution of currently available infra-red detectors. Several methods for identifying residual stresses from the thermoelastic response have been suggested and are further explored in this thesis. Significant attention is given to the effect of plastic deformation on the thermoelastic constant, and the influence of the mean stress on the thermoelastic response in stainless steel and aluminium. An investigation of the experimental setup is undertaken to optimise the detector settings, maximise the thermoelastic signal and minimise measurement errors. For metallic materials, a paint coating is typically required which may attenuate the response. A study of coating characteristics is presented, which compares the experimental and theoretical thermoelastic response. The importance of the coating is highlighted and recommendations for appropriate conditions are provided. The overall feasibility of applying a TSA based approach to residual stress assessment is considered by examining residual stresses around cold expanded holes in aluminium plate. Changes in the response are identified and attributed to the presence of residual stress. Laboratory X-ray diffraction is used to provide residual stress measurements. These are incorporated into a model of the thermoelastic response providing good agreement between experimental data and theoretical predictions within the region of interest. The potential for TSA to identify residual stress is demonstrated, and the study thereby represents a significant step towards understanding the role of TSA within the field of residual stress.

Tyrimo tikslas – ištirti darbuotojų nuomonę, apie darbo stresą sukeliančius veiksnius pasirinktose Šiaulių miesto finansinių paslaugų sektoriaus įmonėse. Klausimynas, pateiktas analizuojamų įmonių darbuotojams, buvo parengtas pagal M. Davis, E. R. Eshelman, M. Mckay (2007) stresorių grupių suskirstymą, kuriuo darbuotojai turėjo įvertinti savo būseną darbe ir įvertinti darbo stresorius. Apklausoje dalyvavo 109 respondentai, iš kurių 43 antstolių kontorų (Antstolės Eurikos Rulienės, Antstolės Vaivos Šimkienės, Antstolio Arturo Bložės, Antstolio Mariaus Jastromskio, Antstolio Ričardo Kudrausko, Antstolio Tomo Ubarto) ir 66 bankų (AB „Swedbank“, AB „Šiaulių bankas“, AB „DnB NORD“ ir AB „Snoras“) darbuotojai. Atlikto tyrimo rezultatai parodė, jog nei antstolių kontorų darbuotojai nei bankų darbuotojai nėra veikiami gausos stresorių, kurie galėtų įtakoti streso darbe atsiradimą. Tačiau tam tikrų signalų, į kuriuos būtina atsižvelgti – yra. Bachelor's Final Work presents the research of two companies in Šiauliai city engaging in financial activity (bailiff companies and banks) employees' opinion on the factors that cause work stress. The aim of the research was to survey the opinion of the employees about the factors that cause stress in the selected companies of the financial sector in Šiauliai city. The questionnaire submitted to the employees was prepared according to the groups of stressors proposed by M. Davis, E. R. Eshelman, M. Mckay (2007), by which the employees had to evaluate their state at work and the stressors of work. There were 109 respondents involved in this survey, 43 employees from the offices of the bailiffs (Bailiff Eurika Rulienė, Bailiff Vaiva Šimkienė, Bailiff Artūras Bložė, Bailiff Marius Jastromskis, Bailiff Ričardas Kudrauskas, Bailiff Tomas Ubartas) and 66 employees from the banks of Šiauliai city (AB Swedbank, AB Šiaulių Bankas, AB DnB NORD and AB Snoras). The results of the research indicated that neither the employees of the bailiff offices nor the employees of the banks are affected by the stressors of abundance, which could cause the occurrence of work stress. The idea behind this project was to implement and study biofeedback features in the popular video game Tetris, using EDA (Electrodermal activity). The goal was to explore if it is possible to deliberately alter live EDA measurements using a Q-Sensor wristband along with the game. Our implementation can change the speed of the game according to the current EDA value of the player. The problem was studied by issuing a user test experiment along with a survey questioning how test subjects responded to the biofeedback features. Results seemed to show that manipulating EDA in our version of Tetris seems possible, although subjects could only alter EDA for shorter periods of time rather than manipulating a general value. More accurate results would require more work and knowledge than presented in this study.
Tanken bakom detta projekt var att implementera och studera biofeedbackelement i det populära datorspelet Tetris genom att använda EDA (Electrodermal activity). Målet var att undersöka om det är möjligt att medvetet manipulera EDA-mätningar vid användandet av ett QSensor- armband tillsammans med spelet. Vår implementation kan ändra spelets hastighet beroende på vilket EDA-värde en spelare vid tillfället har. Problemet studerades genom att utföra ett användartest tillsammans med en fråge-enkät för att undersöka hur testpersoner svarade till biofeedback-elementen. Resultaten verkade visa att det kan vara möjligt att medvetet manipulera EDA-mätningar vid spelande av Tetris, dock kunde försökspersonerna bara förändra dessa mätningar under kortare perioder snarare än att påverka genomsnittsvärdet. Mer tillförlitliga resultat kräver betydligt mer arbete och kunskap än vad som framställs i denna rapport.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att belysa arbetsmiljöfaktorer som påverkar stress och stresshantering hos sjuksköterskor på arbetsplatsen. Metod: Denna litteraturöversikt innefattar 18 studier av både kvalitativ och kvantitativ ansats som söktes via databasen Wiley InterScience och därefter granskades och analyserades. Resultat: Tre teman konstaterades som berörde; organisatoriska, psykosociala och professionsrelaterade faktorer som bidrog till arbetsrelaterad stress. Av de organisatoriska faktorerna var löneaspekten, inadekvat organisationsuppbyggnad och inadekvat personalbemanning av stor betydelse för den arbetsrelaterade stressen. Psykosociala miljöfaktorer som bristande möjlighet till konsultation och stöd från arbetskollegor och höga arbetskrav var faktorer som genererade stress på arbetsplatsen. Professionellt var bristande kunskap och erfarenhet i yrket samt fysiskt krävande arbetsbelastning betydande faktorer. Flera studier rapporterade dessutom att stor del av sjuksköterskorna övervägde att lämna sitt yrke på grund av den arbetsrelaterade stressen.

Studien undersökte sambandet mellan stress mindset (individens övertygelser om stress) och upplevd stress hos gymnasieungdomar. 122 deltagare i åldrarna 16-19 år deltog i studien genom att svara på ett elektroniskt formulär. Frågorna bestod av Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-14), som undersökte upplevd stress, och Stress Mindset Measure (SMM), som undersökte deltagarnas mindset om stress. Resultatet visade en signifikant negativ korrelation mellan stress mindset och upplevd stress. Detta gav stöd till forskningshypotesen att övertygelsen att stress är skadligt har ett signifikant samband med hög upplevd stress hos gymnasieungdomar. Praktiska implikationer och framtida forskning diskuteras.

The purpose of this study was to examine the work-related stress among trainers and office workers through a survey that was constructed to address the research questions. Short-term stress can be explained as a primary physiological change in the body in form of secretion of adrenaline and norepinephrine, which enhances performances. There is also good evidence that physical activity can promote physical and mental health. If the body is exposed to short-term stress over a longer period, it has the opposite effect both mentally and physically. This study was built on a mixed method approach, with a mix of both quantitative and qualitative questions, which of most were quantitative. The survey was distributed to three different companies, with various work duties. Surveys were collected during two different times, with a significant amount the last time. It was thereby analyzed and coded into the program Excel (2016). Only considerable data was later presented to match the research questions. To conclude the results, 82 percent felt work-related stress, while 18 percent didn’t feel work-related stress. Many study participants often feel work-related stress, and more than half of the participants in the study do not know how to handle their work-related stress. The minority of participants however, feels a positive change in terms of achievement and well-being, which is the research area studied less between the negative and positive impact that stress may have. Work-related stress can further reflect today’s approach on stress and scientist have identified a need for further research on “eustress” (positive stress).
Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka den arbetsrelaterade stressen hos tränare och kontorsarbetare genom en enkätundersökning som konstruerades för att behandla forskningsfrågorna. Kortvarig stress kan förklaras som en primär fysiologisk förändring i kroppen i form av utsöndring av adrenalin och noradrenalin, vilket förbättrar prestationen. Det finns även god evidens på att fysisk aktivitet kan främja den fysiska och psykiska hälsan. Om kroppen utsätts för kortvarig stress under en längre period kan den ha motsatt effekt både mentalt och fysiskt. Studien byggde på ett ”mixed method” tillvägagångssätt, med en blandning av både kvantitativa och kvalitativa frågor, varav de flesta var kvantitativa. Enkätundersökningen distribuerades till tre olika företag, med olika arbetsuppgifter. Enkäterna samlades in under två olika tillfällen, och efter dessa två tillfällen fanns det tillräckligt med besvarade enkäter. Det analyserades och kodades efteråt i programmet Excel (2016). Endast betydande data presenterades för att besvara forskningsfrågorna. För att sammanfatta resultatet kände 82 procent arbetsrelaterad stress, medan 18 procent inte kände någon arbetsrelaterad stress. Många deltagare i enkätundersökningen kände ofta av arbetsrelaterad stress, och mer än hälften av deltagarna i studien visste inte hur de skulle hantera stressen. Minoriteten av deltagarna känner av en positiv förändring i fråga om prestation och välbefinnande, detta är forskningsområdet som studerats minst avseende den negativa och positiva inverkan som stress kan ha. Arbetsrelaterad stress kan ytterligare reflektera dagens synsätt på stress, och forskare har identifierat behovet av ytterligare undersökning på ”eustress” (positiv stress).

Resumen

Environmental stress screening is used to enhance reliability by decreasing the number of failures experienced during customer use. It is suggested that added benefit can be gained by applying multiple stresses rather than a single stress, as is done presently. A further modification is to apply the stress at the assembly level, accelerating different types of components at the same time. Different component E A e acceleration effects must then be considered.

The problem these modifications present is how to choose the appropriate stress levels and the time duration of the stress screen. A cost model is developed that trades off the cost of a field failure with the cost of applying a multiple stress, multiple component stress screen. The objective is to minimize this cost function in order to find an economical stress regimen.

The problem is solved using the software package GINO. The interesting result is that if a stress is used at all during the stress screen, the maximum amount of stress is the economic choice. Either the cost of stressing is low enough to justify the use of a stress, in which case the maximum amount of stress is used, or the cost is too high and the stress is not used at all.

Este estudo apresenta os resultados de uma intervenção baseada na psicologia para a gestão do stresse nos enfermeiros. Tem como objetivo contribuir para a diminuição dos níveis de stresse nas enfermeiras, através de ferramentas, e em consequência adquirirem competências para lidar com os problemas do quotidiano de um modo mais adequado. Pretende demonstrar que as técnicas de intervenção aplicadas são eficazes, observando se o treino proporcionou uma melhoria dos níveis de stresse, se essa melhoria surge a partir do momento da intervenção e se mantem-se após o treino. Foi aplicado um desenho de investigação quase experimental de linha base múltipla intrasujeitos, com aplicação sucessiva da variável independente a diferentes participantes. A amostra é constituída por 3 enfermeiras que receberam o programa “Gestão Otimista do Stresse”. O objetivo foi parcialmente alcançado uma vez que os níveis de stresse das enfermeiras diminuíram; Stress in health professionals: an intervention with nurses Abstract: This study presents the results of an intervention based in psychology for stress management in nurses. The purpose is to contribute to the reduction of stress levels in nurses, providing them with tools, and consequently, to acquire skills to cope with everyday problems in a more appropriate way. It aims to demonstrate that the applied intervention techniques are efficient, showing if the training produce an improvement of the stress levels, if that improvement shows up since the moment of the intervention, and if it is maintained after training. It was applied a quasi-experimental research design of multiple baseline intra-subject, with the successive application of the independent variable to different participants. The sample consists of 3 nurses who received the “Optimistic Stress Management” program. The goal was partially achieved since the nurses´ stress levels decreased.

Denna undersökning handlar om stress i förskolan. Syftet med undersökning är att ta reda på hur förskollärare i en förskola upplever stress i sitt arbete och vad förskollärarna gör för att minska sin stress. Dessa frågeställningar har varit centrala i min studie. Hur definierar förskolläraren sin egen stress i det vardagliga arbetet? Vad gör förskollärarna för att minska stressen i förskolan? Den metoden jag använde mig av var kvalitativa intervjuer som genomfördes med fyra förskollärare. Min forskning fokuserar på, stress och hur man kan minska detta. Resultatet visar på att förskollärare är väl medvetna om stress och hur den kan förebyggas, att förskollärarna upplever mer eller mindre stress i sin vardag.  De faktorer som framför allt bidrar till stress var höga ljudnivåer, personalbrist, extra arbetsuppgifter, stora barngrupper samt att inte hinna med att planera i barngrupperna.  Stress hos förskollärarna själva definierades som en känsla av spändhet, frustration eller depression.

Background: The main aim of the present research was to investigate the individual differences in personality, parental bonding, and stress reactivity in order to explain the underlying mechanisms that may sustain chronic stress. In light of the central role of both personal and social factors in shaping one’s experiences as identified by the previous literature, the present study sought to investigate how these aspects interrelate within the framework of chronic stress. It was hypothesised that chronic stress may be the result of maladaptive patterns of interaction between personal and social dispositions in stress processing. Method: The participants included a student and a community sample. Levels of chronic stress, stress reactivity, personality traits, and parental bonding experiences were assessed through self-reported questionnaires. Hypotheses: There were three models of chronic stress conceptualised and tested – general, social, and achievement. The defining features of the general model included parental bonding (affection and control) and personality dispositions. Affection in parental bonding, agreeableness, extraversion, and emotional stability comprised the social model of chronic stress. On the other hand, controlling bonding, extraversion, emotional stability, and conscientiousness were the defining elements of the achievement model of chronic stress. Interaction effects and structural pathways were examined for each of the models through regression analyses and structural equation modelling. Results: The findings included significant interaction effects among the variables of parental bonding and personality as well as idiosyncratic pathway structures for each model. The results were discussed with regard to clinical implications. Discussion: It was concluded that an effective direction for therapeutic work with regard to chronic stress would target stress reactivity by addressing the mismatch between personal and social dispositions. These individual dispositions suggested several focal points for more precise and effective therapeutic interventions.

Sjukdomar som kan relateras till stress har idag blivit ett allt vanligare problem i vårt västerländska samhälle och allt fler folkhälsorapporter pekar ut denna ohälsa som ett av de största folkhälsoproblemen. Syftet med vårt examensarbete är att undersöka om elever i årskurs tre på gymnasiet upplever sig stressade och i så fall varför. Genom att undersöka elevers eventuella stress på yrkesförberedande kontra teoretiska program vill vi granska hur elevernas egen uppfattning kring sin eventuella stress ser ut. Känner de sig stressade, och i så fall varför. Dessutom har vi för avsikt att undersöka vad eleverna själva gör för att motverka stressen och om eleverna känner oro inför sin framtid. Vi ämnar även undersöka eventuella skillnader mellan könen. För att kunna genomföra detta syfte har vi valt enkäter som undersökningsmetod. Enkäten delades ut till 129 elever och besvarades av 127 stycken. Undersökningens resultat visar att eleverna upplever sig stressade och den största orsaken till stress är tidsbrist. Detta är något de manliga eleverna upplever starkare än sina kvinnliga kollegor. De kvinnliga eleverna upplever sig istället mer besvärade av stressåkommor som till exempel huvudvärk och ont i magen samt känner en större oro inför framtiden. För att försöka hantera sin stress väljer många manliga elever att sätta sig framför dator eller tv medan många kvinnliga elever istället försöker planera sina studier bättre för att hinna med sina skolarbeten. På oväntat många av undersökningens frågor finns ingen noterbar skillnad mellan de yrkesförberedande och de teoretiska programmen.

Syftet med föreliggande studie var att studera om det finns en signifikant korrelation mellan stress och sömn bland personalen i fem kommunala hemtjänster, samt om eventuellt samband är åldersberoende. Frågeställningarna var: finns det en signifikant korrelation mellan stress och sömn? Finns det någon skillnad i upplevd stress mellan unga vuxna och äldre vuxna? Påverkar åldern sömnkvalitén? Interagerar ålder, stress och sömn med varandra? En kvantitativ enkätundersökning har utförts då enkäter distribuerades till fem olika kommunala hemtjänster. Undersökningsdeltagarna bestod av 51 respondenter mellan åldrarna 20 till 65 år. Enkäterna bestod av stressenkäten Perceived Stress Scale och sömnenkäten Karolinska Sleep Questionaire. Resultaten visade en signifikant korrelation mellan stress och sömn och mellan stress och sömnindexen. Ingen signifikant korrelation mellan åldersgrupp och sömn, mellan åldersgrupp och sömnindexen och mellan åldersgrupp och stress. Ingen interaktion mellan åldersgrupp, stressgrupp och sömn. The aim of the present study was to investigate if there is a significant correlation between stress and sleep among the staff in the five municipal home care services, as well as if the possible relationship is age dependent. The questions were: is there a significant correlation between stress and sleep? Is there any difference in perceived stress between young adults and older adults? Do age affects the sleep quality? Interacts age, stress and sleep with each other? A quantitative survey has been carried out were the questionnaires were distributed to five different municipal care services. Study participants consisted of 51 respondents between the ages 20 to 65 years. The surveys consisted of stress survey Perceived Stress Scale and sleep questionnaire Karolinska Sleep Questionaire. The results showed a significant correlation between stress and sleep and between stress and sleep indices. No significant correlation between age group and sleep, between age group and sleep indices and between age group and stress. No interaction between age group, stress group and sleep. COORDENAÇÃO DE APERFEIÇOAMENTO DO PESSOAL DE ENSINO SUPERIOR
A partir das equações de Williams e Creager foi desenvolvido um método híbrido, que acopla fotoelasticidade a um método numérico-computacional para determinação a dos fatores de intensificação de tensões (FIT) em placas planas sujeitas aos Modos I e II de abertura, com ou sem arredondamento na raiz do entalhe. Às equações propostas acopla-se um polinômio completo que representa uma tensão não-singular (sigma). Assim feito é possível a determinação dos coeficientes KI, KI e termos de sigma. Três programas de computador foram desenvolvidos para as formulações (Williams ou Creager): O primeiro: a partir da configuração das franjas isocromáticas, obtém-se KI e KII e os termos relativos à tensão não singular. O segundo: o desvio relativo a cada ordem de franja é determinado a partir dos termos acima. O terceiro: a partir dos valores determinados regenera-se as franjas isocromáticas para compara-las com as originais. As formulações foram testadas em modelos de barras com trincas e entalhes (com e sem arredondamento na raiz) e seus resultados comparados com dados disponíveis na literatura. Os fatores de influência na determinação de KI e KII, estudados foram: a quantidade de pontos e o ângulo delimitador da região de coleta de dados, bem como a influência dos termos referentes ao campo não singular e alguns aspectos do método numérico implementado. Como aplicação estudou-se o caso do corpo de prova tipo Charpy, onde, a partir das equações de Creager e dos valores de KI e KII assim determinados, pôde-se obter o valor de Kt para uma dada geometria.
A hybrid method coupling photoelasticity to a numerical-computational method which implements the William s (modes I and II) and Creager s (mode I) equations has been developed to determine the mixed-mode stress intensity factors in sharp notches and blunt cracks. The equations take into account the presence or not of a radius in the tip of the notch. To the proposed equations was added a complete polynomial, which represents the non-singular stress field. Three computational programs were developed for both formulations (William s and Creager): one to determine KI, KII and the non-singular terms, the second to evaluate the error between the actual situation and the results obtained and the third to regenerate the isochromatic fringes. The method has been tested in bars with cracks and notches (taking or not into account the existence of the radius at the depth of the notch) and the results were compared to experimental and analytical data found in the literature. Factors which have influence on the determination of KI, KII, were discussed: the number of data points and sector angle where those points are collected as well as the influence of the number of non-singular terms and some aspects of the numeric method. Two applications were studied: Charpy type test specimen under tension and bending and a beam with deep simetrycal grooves. With the values of KI and KII obtained by the Creager s equations one can determine the valeu of sigma x and sigma y in the analyzed situation, as well as the Kt value.

Gestational diabetes mellitus impacts between 3-10% of pregnancies, and increases the risk of pregnancy complications and lifelong health effects for mother and child (Bellamy, Casas, Hingorani, & Williams, 2009; Ross, 2006; Ryser Rüetschi et al., 2016). About half of cases occur without an evident risk factor (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), 1994; Dode & Santos, 2009). The present study was designed to examine possible psychophysiological connections linking psychological stress and stress reactivity, the magnitude of an individual’s response to stress, to blood sugar metabolization during mid-pregnancy between 24-28 weeks gestation. Participants were recruited from Sanford Health in Fargo, where patients underwent routine Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing (OGTT) a diagnostic assessment in which higher results indicate less blood sugar metabolization. They also completed a Virtual Trier Social Stress Task while psychological and physiological markers of stress reactivity were assessed. Additionally, maternal stress and stress reactivity were assessed using psychosocial questionnaires. There was support for proposed psychophysiological connections, including models in which positive associations between OGTT and maternal stress and anxiety were moderated by psychological stress reactivity. Results suggest that both the presence of stress and a women’s responses to that stress are influential over blood glucose metabolization during pregnancy. Continuing research in this area may have implications for improving outcomes of women at higher risk of GDM and other adverse pregnancy and perinatal outcomes.

Syftet med studien var att undersöka socialsekreterares upplevelser av arbetsrelaterad stress och hur socialsekreterarna i så fall upplever, hanterar och påverkas av arbetsrelaterad stress. För att försöka finna svar på syftet så formulerades tre frågeställningar: Vilka faktorer påverkar socialsekreterares upplevelse av stress? Hur hanterar socialsekreterarna stress relaterat till arbetet? Hur upplever socialsekreterare att eventuell arbetsplatsrelaterad stress påverkar kvaliteten på deras arbete? Fyra intervjuer genomfördes med yrkesverksamma socialsekreterare inom olika områden i olika kommuner i södra Sverige. För att tolka och förstå resultatet har jag tagit del av tidigare forskning och kunskap inom ämnet samt teorierna Karasek och Theorells krav-kontroll modell och coping. Resultatet visar på att alla socialsekreterare mer eller mindre upplever arbetsrelaterad stress i arbetet men att det beror på olika faktorer. Resultatet visar vidare att de medverkande socialsekreterarna använder sig av olika strategier för att hantera och motverka arbetsrelaterad stress.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the social workers´ experience of work-related stress and how, in that case, the social workers´ experience, manage and are affected by work-related stress. In order to try to find answers to the purpose, three questions were formulated: What factors influence the social workers´ experience of stress? How do social workers´ deal with work-related stress? How do social workers´ think that work-related stress affects the quality of their work? Four interviews were conducted with professional social workers with different tasks, in different areas in southern Sweden. In order of interpret and understand the results, I have taken advantage of previous research and knowledge of the subject as well the theories “Karasek and Theorell´s requirements-control model” and “coping”. The result shows that all social workers more or less experience work-related stress at work, but how they experience the stress depends on various factors. The result further shows that the participating social workers use different strategies to deal with, and counteract work-related stress.

With healthcare reform on the rise and the population of Baby Boomers increasing exponentially, nurses are in higher demand than ever before. Students in nursing school are under a great deal of stress as they balance a heavy academic load with outside responsibilities to jobs and families. These stressors often carry into professional practice, resulting in nurses that are constantly stressed. This study asks nursing students about their perceived stress and about the specific ways they cope with their stress. The study’s results show that most students wish they had more time to engage in stress relieving activities. When students and nurses do not have time to adequately relieve their stress, their patients may be adversely affected. Stressed nurses are more prone to making careless mistakes, which can negatively impact the quality of patient care. This problem is compounded by the projected shortage of registered nurses. Nursing students need to be educated early on about constructive stress coping mechanisms that will carry into their practice. Nursing programs and employers can help promote effective coping by establishing policies that create positive, lower-stress learning and work environments. Implications of such policies and specific results of this study will also be discussed.
