Texto completoAgainst a backdrop of crisis in cultural prescription, this thesis analyzes a professional group of public service cultural intermediaries, the music programmers at Radio France. Faced with the loss of audience for music radio stations, competition from streaming platforms and the introduction of digital technologies into the professional practices of music programming at Radio France, how are the boundaries of a public service professional group evolving ? Subjected to public service missions that give them an a priori singular role in the radio space - and more broadly in the cultural space - the study of the professional practices of Radio France's music programmers constitutes a fertile field of research for understanding the mutations of music prescription as well as the contemporary stakes of public service radio. From an interactionist perspective and with an inductive and comprehensive methodological approach, this work is based on an analysis of the "narratives of practice" of music programmers delivered in interviews, but also on interviews conducted with other professional groups involved in music programming at Radio France. Conducted between 2016 and the beginning of 2020, these interviews are complemented by the analysis of a corpus of contemporary official documents

Texto completoThe growing demand for mobile telephony services and the advent of new technologies requires their continued expansion, in order to ensure safe, reliable and high quality to its users. As a direct consequence of this growth has been the need to increase the amount of Radio Base Stations (RBS) to be installed. This expansion may have visual impacts and damage to the health of the population in the surrounding areas of the base stations, seeking always the best practices for the deployment of base stations. This model is based on policies that allow for expansion of services of mobile networks and, at the same time reduce the visual impact of these facilities as well as damage to the health of the surrounding area of the population, in a complementary manner to the applicable legislation. This concern is motivated by the loss of quality of service presented by the mobile operators, due especially to the poor distribution of antenna signal distributors. The objective of this work is to make a diagnosis of the spatial distribution of Radio Base Stations in the city of Fortaleza, focusing on its normative aspects and the current management system and supervision of those cell sites. The technical and regulatory aspects of installations of base stations used in mobile telephony will be searched, focusing the case study in Fortaleza, in addition to identifying the public agencies responsible for managing the inspection of cell sites in this municipality, and establish their respective responsibilities. For this, the methodology used in the study is based on qualitative exploratory research, using the deductive method of approach, performing literature, through the consultation of books, periodicals, theses, dissertations and legislation available on mobile telephony in Brazil and world, its normative aspects and criteria for installation of base stations. Also we used a field survey, through structured interviews managers of public agencies responsible for the management and supervision of RBS. The study showed that Fortaleza has 843 base stations registered by ANATEL (2014), with 6.8 million active mobile lines. Research by the SEUMA showed, among other aspects, despite the demands of municipal law in 8914, supervising or is done randomly, or from accusations of \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"disagreement\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" made by the people and that the body responsible not talk to one itself.

Texto completoFuture wireless communication systems will utilize the spatial properties of the wireless channel to improve the spectral efficiency and thus increase capacity. This is realized by deploying multiple antennas at both the transmitter and receiver. Utilizing the spatial properties of the channel demands channel models that properly reflect these characteristics. Due to the unpredictable nature of the wireless channel, a common approach is to model its effects in a statistical fashion. A few large world wide cooperations, like the 3GPP or WINNER projects, have developed channel models intended for reference and standardization use. These models are partly based on bulk parameters which describe the characteristics of the channel over larger areas of several wavelengths. These parameters include shadow fading, angle spread, and delay spread among others, and are within the WINNER project called large scale (LS) parameters. Considering the variations of these parameters, it is likely that they are correlated between closely located areas. Therefore it is of key interest to model their correlation properties instead of randomizing them independently for each new simulation. In multi-cell scenarios, when considering macro diversity or evaluation other properties such as interference and/or handover schemes, the intra site correlation of the shadow fading parameters should be taken into account for proper simulations. Neglecting this correlation the interference could be over/under estimated, hence the system capacity can be over/under estimated. Further, reliable estimations of the interference levels will increase the frequency reuse, and may even permit reuse within the same cell, on spatially separated links. The thesis focuses on modelling the statistics and variations of these parameters to increase accuracy of channel models. Previous studies have looked at the autocorrelation properties of the shadow fading in outdoor environments and found it to follow an exponential decay. This means that an first order autoregressive function would be sufficient to model this effect. Research of the angular spread parameter is more scarce, and therefor this issue is studied herein. In addition to the autocorrelation properties the intra-site correlation between the different large scale parameters is of interest. It is herein found that the shadow fading is negatively correlated with angle spreads, while the angle spread at the base station and the angle spread at the mobile show positive correlation. Finally, the inter site correlation between one mobile and multiple base stations is studied as a function of the angular separation between the links. For closely located base station, ie with small angular separation as seen from the mobile, substantial inter-site correlation is found. It is further seen that the correlation of the shadow fading is more prominent than the correlation of angle spread.

Texto completoThe amount of coexisting norms in cellular networks is responsible for increasing the number of base-station antennas. There is no more space to add antennas, especially in urban zones due to the resulting visual pollution. Therefore, optically transparent radiating devices become an attractive alternative. They can be integrated in structures such as buildings glazed surfaces or along the facades still not used for antenna support. A state-of-the-art of optically transparent materials suitable for radiating devices is presented. One solution is to use thick meshed conductors mounted on a glass substrate. A high resolution meshing gives conductors with good electrical performances, however nearly invisible regarding human visual acuity. Therefore, they can be used to design high performance devices. Some optically transparent antennas, based on meshed conductor technology are also presented. Most are made in microstrip technology. Their narrow bandwidth and poor Gain are not compatible with requirements of base-station antennas. However, advanced antenna designs may help to achieve good performances but they must be adapted to use glass substrates. This thesis presents antennas and antenna arrays designed using two different processes enabling the achievement of a dual-polarized see-through antenna, with 30% bandwidth, and 7dBi Gain for VSWR<1. 5:1, along with more than 30dB isolation between two polarizations

Texto completoThe numerous changes that happened in the domain of radiotelephony in Africa can be analysed in diverse ways. This research has optioned to address these by means of its relationship with religion. Religious discourse seems to have constituted a sector of choice for the African diffusers. What are the issues, the functions and the contents of this tendency? What place does religion occupy in the African radio at present and what place does it have in its future? How do the media use religious discourse and, inversely, what use do religious leaders make of the media? These are some of the questions that this research responds to. It constitutes a contribution to the Science of Information and Communication in a double dimension: the study of media and study of the communication of organisations

Texto completoThe advanced signal processing systems of today require extreme data throughput and low power consumption. The only way to accomplish this is to use parallel processor architecture.
The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the use of parallel processor architecture in baseband signal processing. This has been done by implementing three demanding algorithms in LTE on Ambric Am2000 family Massively Parallel Processor Array (MPPA). The Ambric chip is evaluated in terms of computational performance, efficiency of the development tools, algorithm and I/O mapping.
Implementations of Matrix Multiplication, FFT and Block Interleaver were performed. The implementation of algorithms shows that high level of parallelism can be achieved in MPPA especially on complex algorithms like FFT and Matrix multiplication. Different mappings of the algorithms are compared to see which best fit the architecture.

Texto completoAs the Internet plays an important role on modern living, it makes changes both customers and enterprises. And the broadcasting market also alters when listeners and companies take new possibilities on the development of virtual world. As a result of it, managers have already assessed their strategies to the Internet use, mainly on the way to make their marketing. With the theme Marketing Strategies Via Internet, this dissertation registers a multiple study of case carried out with four broadcasting companies in Fortaleza city, which performs on the segment of young people. And outcomes point out to variety setting when the theme is the use of electronic marketing (E-Marketing). It is verified, for example, the existence of an sender whom not yet it desires to invest in the Internet, for distrust to lose hearing and for not to consider the appropriate moment; another one already thinks about investing more fort in action of marketing for the net, although not to have initiated these changes in the practical one; one third sender is affiliated to the one strategical national net and no decision are not taken local; while it has an example of a radio that already was born strategically come back toward Internet, also, carrying through its action of marketing of electronic form. Also one evidences that the senders use the Internet mainly as tool of promotion of the made up of marketing, with emphasis in the spreading of sender through its sites. Although to recognize that web innovated the form to interact with its listeners, the Interactivity it is carried through of form limited for the studied senders. They not they possess, for example, politics defined for use of Interactivity in the elaboration and maintenance of data bases efficient or for the accomplishment of research to know better its public. Under the point of view of the Internet as surrounding for accomplishment business-oriented electronic (E-Business), the managers not they are stimulated. They point the advertiser absence and costs with the Internet as main limitors so that its sites give financial return currently. However, responsible for the senders they show good expectations for accomplishment business-oriented electronic in the future. Although the uncertainties, the Internet, in the generality, is not seen by the managers as a threat but rather as a tool that supports the radio that we know today. It is common sense between them that the conviviality of the radio with the Internet is inevitable.

Texto completoThis study examines the work habits and news products produced by commercial and non-profit radio news operations at the local, or affiliate, level. Specifically, the focus is on the perception and utilization of internet audience data that measures stories on a radio station’s website. A survey of 332 commercial and non-profit radio newsroom decision-makers discovered how they feel about web audience data and how they act on it. A statistical analysis, informed by a theoretical background including Institutionalism and Resource Dependence Theory was conducted for this study. The predictor variables were the degree of perceived uncertainty, whether the respondent works in a for-profit or non-profit operation, the length of time the participant has worked in journalism, the tendency to search for information in the environment, and the tendency toward mimicry. The dependent variable was degree of use of web analytics. The findings indicate a positive relationship for both mimicry and information search with the primary dependent variable, use of web analytics data in newsroom decision making. Also, respondents with greater experience levels are marginally less receptive to relying on internet audience data for information search and less likely to mimic the practice of using web analytics. The statistical results did not support hypotheses that predicted effects from perceived uncertainty. While statistical support between perceived uncertainty and the use of web data was not found, a reverse relationship in one hypothesis suggests that use of internet audience data may reduce uncertainty rather than increase it.

Texto completoRadio is one of the earliest and most powerful of all mass media, which explains its strong potential as a means of moral education, influence on public opinion, and role in public agenda setting. In Israel, educational radio stations operating out of academic institutions have been in operation for more than 50 years, yet no comprehensive study has examined the various aspects of their presence in the media, academic, community, and social spheres. Alongside extensive research on the radio industry, the purpose of the current study is to fill the lacuna in the literature on the role and contribution of educational radio stations operating out of colleges and universities in Israel. The educational radio project is the product of an encounter between two significant branches of Israeli society: One branch is The Voice of Israel, a major public media organization that sponsors the project, and the second, executive branch, is the academic institutions, which are prestigious institutions that train future generations through a variety of means, including intellectual development, knowledge, professional development, and, of course, research. To examine the educational radio stations’ role and contribution, we conducted a mixed methodology research combining qualitative and quantitative methods. To identify the historical milestones in the project’s development, we analyzed documents stored in The Voice of Israel archives, and conducted interviews with the station’s senior executives. Findings indicate that the project underwent several significant, complex, and bureaucratic changes involving important government organizations: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications, and the Broadcasting Authority. Senior ministers of education were most markedly involved in determining the features of the educational radio project. The project, which was initiated in the early 1990s, now boasts 47 educational radio stations currently in operation in over 80 educational institutions including elementary schools, high schools, community centers, colleges, and universities, throughout Israel. The vision of the project’s founders was to develop media professionals with an understanding of the media industry, who would represent non-mainstream formats, issues, and opinions, including a liberal perspective and democratic value
