Texto completoA mythical figure for some and unknown to others, Bébian Auguste (1789-1839) reflects the ambivalence of Deaf History which is sometimes recognized, sometimes ignored. In the wake of Abbot Epée, whose descendants retained his name and who demonstrated the trainability of the deaf on a large scale, this man was nevertheless the catalyst of an unprecedented upheaval, which crosses the boundaries of many educational structures. The objective of this research on Auguste Bébian, that combines the unique biographical elements of his thoughts and analysis, is not to deconstruct the myth, but instead to try and decipher the messages it carries, and grasp what we learn indirectly about the Deaf.Born in Guadeloupe in 1789, it is on the other side of the Atlantic, in France, that this key figure fulfilled the majority of his destiny. Hosted at the National Institution for the Deaf and Dumb in Paris in the early nineteenth century, the daily association with its residents made him the first hearing speaker to perfectly master sign language, the natural language of deaf people as well as the culture of which it is inherent. Having become a teacher, he did not cease to defend sign language as a full-fledged language system to awaken the intelligence of deaf children, "we do not pay any more attention to the sunlight that enlightens us every day ": his many publications show considerable modernity, and are unmatched to date.In the chain of events that leads to the emancipation of the Deaf, which was later animated by Ferdinand Berthier, this study shows how the impulse of Augustus Bébian was a key link, although inversely proportional to his discretion
Amann, Flora. "Sourds et muets entre savoir et fiction au tournant des Lumières". Thesis, Sorbonne université, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/24630.
Texto completoAt the intersection of the history of linguistic ideas and the history of representations, this thesis studies scholarly and fictional discourses on deafness between the final years of the Ancien Régime and the beginning of the Restoration (1776-1815). This period covers the years where the Abbé de L'Épée and the Abbé Sicard carried out their work. It matches the period of changes in the course of the history of the deaf people in France and how they were considered. The emergence of a specialist discourse on deafness, the setting up of institutions dedicated to the collective education of deaf people and the development of sign language and their literacy, mark the beginning of the integration of deaf people into society. Educators and philosophers are not the only ones to talk about deafness; the deaf people and their education also entrhal novelists and authors of short fiction. The sentimental novel seized the silent character and its sign language, sometimes separating him from deafness. Without doubt, the novelists have been interested much more by muteness than deafness, because the former enabled them to question the social function of speech. In their works, the novelists use contrast to reveal the malfunction of speech caused by the Revolution. The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, we put speech on deafness back in the scholarly context of the times and explain how it helps us understand the linguistic, anthropological and philosophical changes of this period. Secondly, through the history of the representations, we show how knowledge and fiction meet in the process of metaphorization of the idea of deafness of the end of the eighteenth century.

Texto completoDespite the fact that, to date, only a couple of books treat of deafness in cinema, we should not hastily conclude that this subject lacks interest. We even postulate that this subject offers unsuspected richness. Our thesis thus engages in the exploration of this complex and dynamic relationship which exists between cinema and deafness, by observing it from different angles. We will therefore rely on Deaf and Disability Studies to examine the various marks that deafness has left in cinematographic art, as well as those left by cinema in Deaf culture. To do this, we will look back in history and seek to understand how cinema and the deaf community meet, influence each other or come into conflict. From Demenÿ's first phonoscopic productions to contemporary mainstream productions, including creations in sign language, we will highlight the often overlooked role of deaf people in the history of cinema, as subjects, actors, producers and directors. Our exploration will lead us to ask ourselves what transformations cinema undergoes, both in its form and in its content, when it comes into contact with Deaf culture, and vice versa. We will also examine the efforts made by those who seek to make cinema a “common” space for deaf and hearing people

Texto completoBased on the case of deaf-mute and blind people in the nineteenth century, the thesis treats the processes by which the state has contributed to the construction of society. More precisely, three linked processes are studied : the birth and strengthening of the cognitive category "sensorial disabled" ; the making of the collective identities of deaf-mute and blind social groups, in particular through the production of identifying attributes (sign langage, braille alphabet) ; the structuration and institutionalization of the education of blind and deaf-mute children as a specific social activity. Through a socio-historical analysis which takes into account the general process of constructing the bureaucratic state, the thesis highlights some of the forms by which administrative agents and institutions, speaking in the name of the state, act upon society
Bocquet, Antoine. "Esprit et société (la philosophie sociale de J. -M. Gérando)". Paris, EHESS, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012EHES0105.
Texto completoIs there a politics of individualism ? - The work of spiritualist philosopher and philanthropist Joseph-Marie de Gérando (1772-1842) appears as a good point of view on this issue, although the idea of a sociological spiritualism may seem paradoxical. This study follows therefore what happens to comparative method through the various aspects of the philosophy of this little known although crucial author. His contributions to the Ideology and psychology, anthropology, grammar, comparative literature, philanthropy and administration, his work for the education of deaf-mutes are considered in this perspective. The main result of this work can be summarized simply as the spiritual paradox. Spiritualism, which Gérando is one of the first representatives, as it gets into interiority, opens to concrete practices and to an original form of comparative approachs, as if its introspective tendency naturally led him to a turnaround point able to show the weakness of subject "dispositif". In another aspect, we establish how took place the transition from "ideology", in the sense that this term has for Ideologues, sensualist philosophers of the Directoire, to the "ideology" in the sense of cultural anthropology (the social ideas). From this point of view, the specific contribution of spiritualism would have been to constitute the mind as an area of elaboration for the concept of "social"
Lee, Seon-Hee. "Histoire et histoires dans les Essais de Montaigne". Paris 10, 2006. http://www.theses.fr/2006PA100074.
Texto completoIn the Essays, Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) reports a considerable number of stories taken from his readings, his own experiments or those taken from the people around him. The first part of this study answers the question about the types of these. The second part is mainly devoted to the examination of their sources. The last part insists on the way Montaigne appropriates the accounts of others in his text. We first see the formal aspects of them. Then we tackle the study of the fitting of the stories because we find rather particular cases like reporting a very long story, or giving the same one several times, or aligning a series of stories. Lastly, we try to define the roles the stories play in the text. We present three possibilities: they are used to illustrate one idea, they intervene as a precept or they launch or start again the reflection. Our work finishes thus on confirming the close relationship between the stories and the reflection or the opinions of Montaigne

Texto completoThis work draws informations from the epigraphic and literary documents concerning Cyprus in order to formulate new interpretations about the political, economic and social structure of the island before the Classical age. In the corpus of documents the primary sources are studied, those that have been found on the island (Cypro-syllabic, Phoenician, Akkadian and Egyptian inscriptions), and those that have a different origin, but dealing with Cyprus (Neo-Assyrian inscriptions ; Cypriot inscriptions found outside the island ; documents in Hebrew and Egyptian), as well as the secondary sources (biblical texts mentioning Cyprus ; passages of Classical authors). In the main text the documents are analysed and interpreted according to some main research themes. The study of the evidence collected for each city or kingdom allows to introduce the problem of the origin and characters of Cypriot kingship ; on this subject, a comparison is proposed with Mycenaean kingship, and with the political structure of the island in the Late Bronze Age. The evidence available for the reconstruction of the social structure of the island is also studied, as well as the problem of the existence of the Greek polis in Cyprus

Texto completoEndogenous retroviruses are genetic parasites of mammalian genomes. They are « remnants » of ancestral infections by retroviruses that had integrated into the host germ line and were then transmitted in a Mendelian fashion. Study of several endogenous retrovirus families from the mouse, as a mammalian model, allowed us to identify, clone, and characterize new functional elements. We demonstrated that these elements can amplify in the host genome either by retroviral-like infection (for GLN and IAPE éléments) or intracellular retrotransposition (for MusD elements). We have also shown that the ETn non autonomous elements need to hijack MusD proteins to ensure their own mobilization. We next attempted to elucidate thé mechanisms involved in thé émergence of a strictly intracellular element, such as MusD or IAP, from an ancestral retrovirus. We have shown that the « intracellularization » of these elements results from a modification of the N-terminal targeting signals of the Gag protein, leading to the intracellular sequestration of virus-like particles, followed by the decay of the env gene coding sequence. These mechanisms account for the generation of endogenous mutagens that have been able to colonize their host genome very efficiently

Texto completoIn the historiographical tradition, it has been an established fact that the Golden Horde, which descended from the empire founded by Genghis Khan, experienced an abrupt decline which started in the last half of the fourteenth century. The historians have hardly attempted to define the underlying causes of the fall of this state. They have been more concerned with the description of phenomena which have appeared as obvious to them. For some of them, the Horde collapsed after the Timurid invasions at the end of the fourteenth century; others have considered that the Horde failed to position itself facing the potential ascent of the Muscovites whose mythical victories, the one of Kouli and the one of Lougra, announced the end of the "Tatar Yoke". For most of them, its ineluctable decline is due to the splitting-up of the Godschid dynastic house and to the appearance of Khanates around the main citie of the Ulus. Our research which is based on an underlying reading of the textual sources and especially of the official documents of the Khans, has permitted us to challenge the traditional historical conception of a premature disappearance of the Golden Horde. The updating of the khanial discourse must be related to the expression of a myth which sets up the legitimacy of the Godschid descendants. The confrontation of the Khanial discourse with the foreign viewpoints (those viewpoints are fully discernable in the Timurid, Čagatay, Sheybanid historiographies as well as in the Russian historiographies) has allowed us to perceive the main issues, inducing an indispensable rereading of the history of the Golden Horde during its fifteenth century

Le, Dilavrec Quentin. "Precise temporal analysis of source code histories at scale". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université de Rennes (2023-....), 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024URENS003.
Texto completoSoftware systems play a central role in contemporary societies, continuously expanding and adjusting to meet emerging requirements and practices. Over the years, through extensive development efforts and numerous code updates, those systems can accumulate millions of lines of code. Moreover, they exhibit complexity, configurability, and multi-language characteristics, relying on large and complex build pipelines to target multiple platforms and hardware. This requires extensive code analyzes to maintain code, monitor quality and catch bugs. Automated code analysis is a resource-intensive process primarily designed to examine a single specific software version. Presently, existing code analysis methods struggle to efficiently evaluate multiple software versions within a single analysis, taking up an impractical amount of time. This type of code analysis, which scrutinizes software code over several moments of its existence, is referred to as "temporal code analysis." Temporal code analyses open new opportunities for improving software quality and reliability. For example, such analyses would permit to fully study how code and their tests co-evolve in a code history. To overcome the different challenges that prevent such analyses to run at large scale, this thesis makes the following contributions. This thesis first demonstrates the feasibility of analyzing source code changes to identify causality relations between changes (ie. co-evolutions). The second contribution addresses the efficiency of computing fine-grained changes and their impacts from code histories. This required to revisit how source code histories are represented and processed, leveraging the structured nature of code and its stability through time. It led to an approach, called HyperAST, that incrementally computes referential dependencies. The third contribution is a novel code differencing technique for diffing commits. This last contribution, called HyperDiff, complements HyperAST to compare commits at scale
Lamarrigue, Anne-Marie. "Bernard Gui historien". Paris 1, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA010640.
Texto completoBetween the years 1311 and 1330, the dominican friar Bernard Gui undertook the redaction of a series of historical works - a universal chronicle, a chronicle of the kings of France and short local chronicles, a treatise about the saints of limousin, two bishop catalogues (one for Limoges and one for Toulouse) and an extensive compilation on the history of the dominican order. In dealing with general history Bernard Gui relied mainly on dominican sources, but he also drew extensively from various southern chronicles. Whenever he found it possible he supplemented his narrative sources using diplomatic documents and seeking oral testimonies. By a selective treatment of his sources he managed to combine and shorten them so as to offer his reader a terse narrative. Chronographus, not historiographus, he mainly devoted himself to ascribe an accurate datation to events and to build up coherent chronological webs. His attachment to the southern provinces of the kingdom along with the interests of the public for which he particularly wrote, led him, more than others, to ascribe a large place to local events in his works ans to assign them a precise location. Praising the kings of france christian vocation and at the same time an eager advocate of the action of the church, he lived as a personal drama the quarrel between Philippe le Bel and the pope which tore apart his double loyalty to the pope and to the king. His works are in keeping with the vast historiographical dominican undertaking initiated in the first half of the XIIIth century. At the beginning of the XIVth century, they displayed a vision of history whose methods were highly erudite ans which today bears testimony of the high level of scholarship a historian could reach in the reconstruction of the past

Texto completoPaul Ricoeur when describing the relationship between history and fiction conversely speaks of « fictionalization of history » and of « historicization of fiction ». In all its novelistic works Boubacar Boris Diop creates the mythification of history by relating key events in the history of Africa, especially colonization, independence, civil wars, and the Rwandan genocide. In this process of mythicizing history, intertextual elements are called in favor of maintaining an indigenous model. There is then a transformation of history into myth. The writer awakens the memory of history by inventing an interdisiplinary universe. It is clear that the question of identity is also a central concern for the writer. Beyond its roots in the history and politics of post-colonial African states, the work of Boubacar Boris Diop is where he claims his cultural identity. This identity is apparent at two levels : first in the narrative with the insertion of oral tradition genres in his texts and then through the insertion realities specific to the Wolof culture in particular and the African culture in general

Texto completoAt the source of the Chinese thought: the work of Father Mailla (1669-1748) and the history of european ideasJesuit missionary in China, Father Mailla published a monumental work about chinese history and the origin of Chinese culture. His General history of China had a considerable echo in France and Europe. The book was part of the long list of scholarly works published about China by the Jesuits. However, the polemics were born due to the author's affirmation about chinese high antiquity, who seemed to challenge the biblical chronology. The thesis puts the book of Father Mailla in its historical context; it studied the gestation and the diffusion in the European area, and particularly in France. The Research also focuses on the influence of Chinese thought to the european writers and philosophers in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Through the reception of “history”, we also discover the difference between two types of philosophical culture, particularly with regard to the vision of the cosmos and of the history. The divergent metaphysical systems are brought to light in a transcultural perspective, where the mirror effects extend the search for meaning.Key words. Texto completoAs sinicized Asia secures a more and more important part in the political, military, economic and cultural affairs of the world, it becomes quite necessary to know which philosophy and notions will guide and inspire future endeavours of the P. R. C. , Taiwan and other countries that have been deeply influenced by Chinese culture. China's martial tradition - of which the "Seven Military Classics" may be considered the essence - far from having been brushed aside by westernization, is indeed still referred to by the Chinese of our times. Having expounded the strategic thought of Ancient China, this study will deal with writings of political leaders and generals, including both Nationalists and Communists. Finally, the huge amount of reprints, commentary and research on the "Military classics", of the people involved, of its purpose and aims will be analysed. The most important leaders and strategists of our century may have been influenced by the "Military Classics" or a derivate tradition, they may have been taught in military schools and thoroughly studied by scholars, some limits do however stand out : they have not been "all" generals' nor "all" military academies' reference works ; they have been neglected during the Republic era and between 1957 and 1976 ; Party line and politics tends to interfere with scientific research on this matter. Nevertheless, a keen interest on the part of the Chinese vis-à-vis the military treatises of old cannot be denied. They make up the reference for practical ways and means to serve military, political or business endeavours and a Chinese model of warfare to be taken as broad principles rather than any kind of rigid doctrine

The specificity of this artistic school is to represent events, sometimes secondary, of the life of the Buddha, and to set them in varyious chronological sequences. During the same period, two texts narrating the Buddha's life were possibly known, if not circulating in this very area : the Buddhacarita and the Mahāvastu. Both texts have been used in order to identify a given personage or a particular aspect of a figurative scene, proceeding thus by some sort of admitted correspondence or analogy whereas this approach reveals to be problematic. As a matter of fact indeed, the element under investigation, and even if apparently it denotes a similar meaning, intervenes differently and plays a different role in both media. The present essay aims at demonstrating the importance of an in-depth analysis and identification of the elements and variants specific to each source, as a propedeutic to their confrontation. Having this hypothesis in mind, we have compared 364 scenes, distributed among seventeen episodes, with the relevant textual passages, while searching the principles governing the organisation of the singular episodes. The interesting result of our analysis is that though at first glance the two types of sources seem to be heterogeneous, actually and rather quickly they appear to display a common underlying logic that testify to the vivacity and inner coherence of the buddhist productions of that time

Texto completoThe relations between byzantium and egypte in the later middle-ages were born from the conflictual situation which existed in the region around the mediterranean and black seas. This relation allowed byzantines to be saved from the western menace, specially after the paleologan domination on constantinople (1261). Neither the king of sicily (charles d'anjou) nor the papacy accepted that latin empire should fall undre the rule of the palaeologan, nor accepted that constantinople should be removed from the sphere of influence of the western church. At the same time, this relation permitted the byzantines to live in peace with the mongols of the golden horde who had good relations with the mamluks in egypt. As for the mamluks, these relations inhibited the crusading actions through the byzantine empire towards the egyptian sultanate ; also it facilittated the importation of slaves from the black sea region. These slaves were the basic element of the mamluk power in egypt from 1250 to 1517. However, this situation changed in the middle of the fourteenth century : the byzantine empire which was under attack of the ottoman turks, asked for help from the western rulers and formed a closer association with the west. At the same time, the mamluks were more closely associated with the policy of the ottomans. The results were the rupture of egypto-byzantine relations before the fall of constantinople to the ottomans in 1453. At the end two elements played an important role in these relations : the slaves required by the mamluks and christians living in egypt whose interests were defended by the byzantine emperors throughout the reign of the palaeologan dynasty

Texto completoThe object our thesis is to bring to light signs of relations (meeting points and divergences) between a specifical discourse (historical discourse and notion of type of discourse to debate) and the historian's source. The study will focus on a selection of material composed of a part of historical discourse and a part of historical source (research in archives and digitalisation). The discourse of history is the meeting place traces of the historian's source, with the perception of events (in the past or nowaday, and through collective memory and cultural heritage), and the past reality, which was written by the historian. Science of langage will show the discourse elaborating constructions of meaning in specific domains (historical and politic) on the level of the text and the inter-texte level (intertextual and interrelation relations). If the historian discourse is a reappropriate and a reformulation of the historians source, it must carry its traces, and linguistic can explain structures of meanings

Texto completoThe dissertation explores the organic metaphor in Viollet-le-Duc’s theory of architecture, showing how his rationalism, far from a narrow positivism, proceeds from a reflection on both the nature of living beings and the structure of historical development. Two sources have shaped Viollet-le-Duc’s discourse: the natural sciences and historical studies. First, and most immediately, the new theories of the organism developed by French biologists provide Viollet-le-Duc with a scientific model for his analysis of medieval architecture and his theory of "style. " secondly, the study of romantic historiography and a survey of the archeological movement in France since the late-XVIIIth century, provides the broader cultural context to understand Viollet-le-Duc’s organicism

Texto completoFrench freemasonry played an important role as the vehicle of new ideas of liberty and equality coming from the age of enlightenment, of which it says to be the heir, around the middle of the xixth century when these principles will turn from the philosophy of happiness into a social doctrine: the humanist socialism. This new doctrine takes into account not only the moral concepts of justice and equity inherited from the french revolution, but also adds to them a search for solutions to the social question by means of a levelling economical repartition. Within masonic lodges of the grand orient de france, this new doctrine was going to meet a maturation and developments which allow us to assert that the masonic institution played a positive role in the concretisation of the humanist socialism between the revolution of 1848 and the commune of paris
