Texto completoThe thesis focuses on an original professional society of the French architectural scene of the interwar period, the Society of Modern Architects. Born in 1922 as the Group of Modern Architects (GAM), the SAM was founded by innovative architects of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Hector Guimard, Henri Sauvage, Frantz Jourdain. Throughout its existence, it brought together a wide variety of personnalities such as Auguste Bluysen, Adolphe Dervaux, Albert Laprade and Robert Mallet-Stevens. It will have more than 250 members throughout its existence. The thesis postulates the idea of both professional and intellectual coherence within this gathering of architects. The thesis studies the formation of the founding networks of the GAM at the end of the 19th century, the reasons for their convergence in the 1910s and the preparation of the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which served as the setting for the birth of the Group. It is interested in the positioning and professional recognition strategies of SAM architects by studying in particular its actions at the end of the International Exhibition as well as the type of reticular training and the effectiveness of the network set up by the Society. It is interested in the intellectual posture of the SAM by trying to identify a common thought among its members and confronts it with that of the rest of the architectural scene of the interwar period. It notably highlights the emergence of the figure of the modern architect and studies the way in which this figure is envisaged by the Society

Texto completoMy thesis is a attempt to sketch the relations between the value of music in yemeni culture, and the position of the musicians in society. In the first part, i state the contrast between prestige and suspicion which are both attached to music in yemen (chapter 1). This point leads me to examine the concept of the "functions" of the musical genres (chap 2). The second part is a case study, the "classical" singing of sanaa, historic capital of yemen. I describe the ceremonial context of the concert, which makes music the "medicine of the soul" (chap 3) : i then describe the poetic and musical repertory, as well as some of its symbolic aspects (chap 4). The third part examines more deeply this peculiar tension between musical practice and social values (chap 5). I then describe several aspects of the social status of the musicians in sanaa and its surroundings, and some of the musical and non-musical reasons of this hierarchy (chap 6). At last, i show a few strategies by which music lovers and musicians succeed in juxtaposing social values and the practice of their hobby (chap 7). The epilogue shows a few tendancies in the recent evolution of this dilemna. Appendexes provide : an attempt of undestanding the value of music in islamic culture (appendix 1), a full description of the yemeni magyal ceremonial (app 2), a few mythical tales about music (app 3)

Texto completoFieldwork was carried out from september 1985 to february 1987, in the eastern part of the island of madura (indonesia). Participant observation through residence in a village, interviews with specialists, amateurs and audiences, audio and video recordings and their transcriptions, musical notations, systematic surveys conducted near the end of the fieldwork on the artistic tastes and practices of 37 families, and direct observation of 160 performances were the methods enabling the constitution of the corpus of study, addressing the need for ethnographic and thematic study. Chapter i presents the inevitable musical support for these practices. In chapter ii, the author classifies the varied corpus of the region's living artistic genres, offering guidelines concerning performance structure and repertoire, identifies regional differentiation and provides a chronological frame. Chapter iv is devoted to spatial, temporal, economic and human conditions necessary for learning, practice and for reception by an audience, and to the most recent developments. Grounded in daily life, these artistic practices constitute attempted solutions and responses to problemes and aspirations that are both individual and collective, and may be seen as strategies for survival, prestige, or for economic or political power

Texto completoIn France, the humanistic values crisis culminated during the German occupation and the Vichy regime. During this period , art inherited much of the pre-war situation. But disruptions, both in intensity and nature modified the artistical scene. Art, as an expression of patriotic pride was is considered as a reflection of modern decadence : the lack of ideal, individualism, and democracy. Under the "national revolution" art became an instrument of development and revival after a return to order and tradition. In many respects, the "Secretariat general des beaux-arts" thought of a widely approved art policy magnifying the tradition, the fine craft, the monumentalism and the edifying subjects. The artistic world, by nature reluctant to state dirigism, resisted against the governmental positions concerning corporatism and exclusion policy. Besides, few artists accepted to serve the "service artistique du Marechal" which was attached to his person. If some artists entered the French resistance movement, some created subversive works while the majority of them staid aside and bred on its production the fancy of the many people visiting various art places. The German regime, on its side, proceeded with its own exhibitions, being encouraged by French ultras as Rebatet, and being comforted by the German journey of some famous artists : Vlaminck, Derain, Despiau, etc. Meanwhile the nazi authorities spent most of their time on their exclusion policy towards jewish and mason artists. Censorship was discontinued against the exhibition of works considered as "degenerated". Art was a stake for an authoritarian power aiming at controlling society, and an outlet for a population looking forward to returning back to normality

Texto completoThe control of the companies directors of the corporation in positive law has revealed its limit in the recent business context. One can justify its inefficiency two manners : on the one hand, it does not take sufficiently in consideration the real functioning of the corporation; on the other hand, it proves in some of its increasingly formalistic aspects, maladjusted, suspicious, perhaps exceeded. Indeed, this control aimed the thirds and shareholder protection against the all power of company director. Nevertheless, these interest are if general that this legal control obeys more a public order of direction. The pursuit of the citizen mission it has been the opposition of shareholders interest. The corporate governance fact recover rights of shareholders to the detriment of these of company director. The corporation has to be managed in the exclusive interest of these last. Recommendations of this movement are transported by funds of pension, recent actors of the stock market and speakers of companies directors. Their strong presence in the French capitalism obliges companies directors to manage in the interest of shareholders. The recession of the institutionnalisme to the profit of the contractualisme in shareholder reports-leaders makes the unanimity. Taking shareholder interest proprietors into consideration of the corporation by the company director has to be a constant. It can translate into a regular collaboration between the company director, shareholders and the commissioner to accounts, by the development of the technical debate within the council. Furthermore, one has to facilitate the profitability of the investment of the individual shareholder that is concerned only by the return on its investment. Because the finality is no longer left the alone company director master on board of the ship, but to assist it so as to get a good management of the corporation that translated into the creation of the shareholder's value

Texto completoDijon in the late eighteenth century was hoisted to the rank of real artistic provincial capital through an embellishment of its space, accompanied by new connoisseurs. This world revolves around two main figures: the customer and the artists and craftsmen gathered in corporations. This study examines the functioning of corporation’s arts and crafts reserving a large spot in the trail of individuals within the traditional framework. This world is evoked in turn by its regulatory, educational, economic, commercial and social aspects, evoking a provincial city that shines in the heart of the "Age of Enlightenment. "

Texto completoThis thesis spells out specifically a developed tradition of polychrome in the art and the society Muslim Medieval, and tries to improve such concepts extensively. It should be mentioned that the recent improvements made in Islamic sensitivities for color over the recent centuries that separate us from the older period of time (the eighth to fifteenth century) that radiates the Islamic art is beyond this research. As a matter of fact in this study, our goal is to present the concept of color during the eighth to fifteenth century, explaining the meaning and the use of color during that time which correspond its true concept. Since the achievement of the harmony of colors depends on physical processes and appropriate techniques, we will try to demonstrate the practical application and objective of Islamic art and color at those centuries based on visual evidences that were obtained during our research, thus painting is considered as the raw material of our study. These centuries can present all the aesthetic elements of interest especially in painting (miniatures) because among the various arts, painting is the area where the colorist expressed with more freedom. From Baghdad to Tabriz, from Tabriz to Herat and from Herat to Shiraz and Isfahan, the Islamic miniature has produced the most beautiful pages of the history. In addition, color as an element in Islamic culture including poetry, mysticism, regulations and the religious holy book is studied to fully characterize the role of color in other Abrahamic religions

Texto completoTo analyse the importance of artistic teaching at school in the framework of cmc education, we developed our reflection along three major lines : -citizenship: its characteristics, its implications and the evolution of its conception throughout the ages. -school : considered as a space where young peuple systematically develop their potential and cet the basic tools for their social integration. -art : seen as a privileged area of our study where we explored the educational possibilites of artistic training and its effectiveness in terms of achieving a complete education of children and teenagers. A sociological, psychological, political and social reflection along the three lines mentioned above enabled us to build up the theoretical basis of our study and to go out into the field. Our job involved partipative observation in the contex of an art workshop for children. Interviews with peuple involved in our study and two testimonies showing the effectiveness of art in the complete education of young people, are the main factors which backed up the following hypothesis : according to us, art stimulates the personal development of young people, helps them to become integrated and contributes to cmc education

Texto completoThis artistic research’s work raises these questions through a common thread: the stakes of artistic thought. One of the possible perspectives, is the inclusion of the artistic creation within the different intellectual and decisive levels that contribute to the construction to the world as we know it. The mutation of the status of the artist that is made possible by the use of new technologies of information and communication that allows freedom of expression. Will creativity be the key to the future of our society ? Will technological and social innovations depend on artists ? The majority of artistic forms have long since demonstrated the independence of their thought, their humanity, their strength of anticipation and clairvoyance. That's the reason this work constructs its thought processes from an artistic point of view. Artistic in the exercise of a citizen memory. Artistic in his own creative experiments (narration and speculative practice). Artistic in the research methodology and in the scientific approach. And finally, artistic in the form, that of the object-thesis

Texto completoThis doctoral dissertation analyses the social processes enabling women to access historically male-dominated positions. Drawing on the sociology of gender, music, education and work, it explores women’s entry into the world of traditional music instrumentalists in Greece. Based on biographical interviews, archives, institutional sources and quantitative data, the dissertation shows that feminization over the past thirty years has been fuelled by two processes: the formalization of instrumental learning, particularly in the school system, and the expansion of employment opportunities in the field of traditional music revival. These transformations have produced a reconfiguration of gendered practices and representations and a normalization of women instrumentalists’ trajectories. However, as a minority in a male-dominated artistic world, women can maintain their musical practice only under certain conditions. They need to gather resources and deal with gender constraints to achieve success. By analysing the evolution of learning forms and musical worlds, this thesis thus contributes to understanding the mechanisms of production of gender relations in the artistic labour market

Texto completoThis thesis looks at hacking as source of social change, or even subversion of the social order. Hacking involves self-directed learning and remove social barriers between hobbyists, professionals and activists. Therefore, it raises the hope to renew the access to knowledge and the role of technologies in society. In line with the bourdieusian thought on reproduction of social inequalities, the study analyses how hacking articulate itself with the classical instances of socialization – family, friends, school system, etc. – and how it influences social mobility. By studying Swiss and French hackers, it shows that self-directed learning varies according to social origins and trajectories: it enables upward trajectories when it is combined with the legitimate scientific culture. In this regards, hackers do not escape the weight of social classes’ relations, although they are are willing to transfer their unusual behaviors and thought process across different areas of activities. Workplace is generally their main focus. Along with careerpath, success or failures to innovate in the professionnal sphere are key to understand the hackers’ involvement in leisure activities, associations, or various forms of activism. The participation in the political sphere is limited because hackers usually do not have the proper ressources. By highlighting the complexity of hacking, the thesis proposes a better understanding of its potential societal impacts

Texto completoAt a time when Martinique is discovering with amazement, that youths from 18 to 25 are the poorest part of the island populationthey are 12.3% of those coming to the Catholic relief this thesis focuses on the serious problem of young people leaving school without qualifications. The very difficult period of waiting time that is mean the period that goes from their leaving the school system to a professional stabilization has risen from two years to five years. These young people are ejected from a school system that is still very selective. Their traumas are so serious that they can compromise the process leading them to their individuation, to their achievement. In this thesis we aim at analyzing the lacks, the needs of this population and then after observing the results obtained, at proposing other alternatives. The approach is qualitative. It attempts to understand the human experience in a situation of unemployment. It tries to explore their difficulties to see how it is possible to improve their situation. And to prevent Martinique youth from being too often in the grip of the spiral of violence, it offers cultural, artistic and musical practices

"FNE Cadres" is a training programme of the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. Its objective is to facilitate the reintegration of unemployed executives into the professional worforce. This study is based principally on a questionnaire sent to all participants in the programme in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region from 1992 to 1994. In addition to examining the effectiveness of the programme, this study describes the role of the institutional partners that implement the programme : The Association for the employment of managers and executives (APEC), the National Agency for Employment (ANPE) and the Regional Directorate of Work, Employment and Professional Training (DRTEFP). The training programme, its effects, and the altered careers of the unemployed executives highlight the veritable metamorphosis that this social class underwent in th 1990s

Texto completoThis study deals with the painfulness of work and focuses on psychic painfulness. It aims at distinguishing the psychic painfulness of the physical dimension in any sector of activity and understanding its articulation with stress and burnout in order to better understand its issues. Thus, 39 employees of an agro-alimentary industry and 32 employees of a company of service delivery participated in this study. The analyses diagnosed the presence of psychic painfulness in both sectors of activity and the results show that it constitutes one of the predictors of stress and burnout. This painfulness, distinct from the physical painfulness, is characterized at the agro-alimentary company P by indirect factors linked to the activity, such as the weight of the responsibility relating to the position held, the inexperience in a workstation, the fear of making a mistake that can cause heavy consequence for the company and the hyper-alertness imposed by the rhythm of the machine; and to the professional consular chamber A, it is characterized by a high pressure of work related to last-minute work, to the constraints of very short deadlines, to the work in the urgency, to considerable workload linked to the regular addition of files, to a highly directive management style, to an inappropriate work organization and to the lack of recognition of the work of certain socio-professional categories by the hierarchy. Furthermore, the job satisfaction and the meaning of work participate in the inter-individual variability of the psychic painfulness

Texto completoThis thesis focuses on pornographic films’ consumption from 1990s to the present day, and how it may have affected viewers general sensitivity and impacted ordinary film artists fascination for sex show. The exponential increase in the number of accessible pornographic films to the public (including professional production of feature films and amateur production of short sequences) and the generalisation of their consumption via new technologies in particular, which nonetheless, comply with precise rules (part 1). As we moved from cinema viewing to the living room one, the subversive and shocking charge of pornographic film transformed itself without diminishing. The visibility of pornographic films consumption is parallelly accompanied by sex show public invisibility. Indeed, sex spectacle has mainly become a private matter. It takes seriously the film's ability to act on the viewer and the need for the latter, given its disturbing nature and the guilty pleasure it induces, to control, tame and domesticate it. Society adaptation to sex spectators self-respect got materialised through legislation and education adaptation, which includes a reconsideration and massive shift in “"X films" censorship and new awareness toward minors protection (part 3), and the consideration by classical film artists of sex games in art games (part 2). More generally, the study questions the transformation of spectators' sensitivity, whether they are amateurs of the genre, indifferent or opposed to it. The observation of a normalization of pornographic film is not understood as a moral trivialization of "film X" but as a shift in the focus on the spectacle of sex and its uses. Guilt transfer from public gaze to self-awareness is hence, neutralized by the domestication of pornographic film. It allows lovers of the genre to move from mechanical sexual excitement to mastering body games and sexual pleasure techniques (part 3)

Texto completoThe purpose of this study is to examine the communicational relevance of aesthetic resources in identity-building strategies in the finance sector. In particular, the visual management of architectural features art collections advertising rhetoric and logo design is investigated in terms of its strategic impact on the generation of an idiosyncratic semiotic matrix. Given the fact that financial institutions increasingly adopt visual culture as a means of expression of their corporate identity, the study marshals multiple disciplinary perspectives, including aesthetics, semiotics, marketing communications and sociology. This broad-based methodological reference seeks to capture the complexity of aesthetic articulation as practiced in the finance sector. Empirically grounded in an intercultural framework of representative banks, a comparative approach of four European institutions, Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, UBS, Deutsche Bank and Société Générale, seeks to afford a differentiated analysis of their respective communication strategies in the area of Corporate Visualldentity (CVl). Firstly, the iconographic rhetoric of Corporate Architecture (CA), discussed both as a paradigmatic and a syntagmatic phenomenon, establishes a preliminary taxonomy of expressive forms. The second segment stresses the pervasive presence of art collections in the finance sector, emphasizing their central communicational potential. The third chapter outlines the status of advertising, both in terms of iconographic mechanisms and textual discourse. Finally, as the formaI definition of an organization's visual template, the logo significantly impacts on the generation of a visual paradigm

Texto completoHow to equal opportunity mechanisms and socialising Martinique's jobless youth interact ? Martinican society, born out of slavery, is in the building process. Numerous existing handicaps impact its economy ; Martinique must, however, apply measures set in France, conceived outside of its own reality. Dialectics between transcendency and auto-reference are heightened. This is evident in the low rate of access to employment. Consensus is a characteristic of French society. Martinique id gradually adopting the premise of a compromise in co-existence, reflected in the adoption of legislation acknowledging the building process. Regarding youth equal opportunity policies, such dynamics are not yet operative. Examination of the Local Mission (equal opportunity symbol) and the "declaratory" project (a consensus trait), thanks to social transaction, enables an analysis of policy limits based on the Theory of Order deployed in Martinique by the French State and elected representatives

Texto completoCharles Michel-Ange Challe (1716-1778) began as an History painter, a professor of geometry and perspective at the Royal Academy in Paris, before being appointed as Dessinateur de la Chambre et du Cabinet du roi. He was born among a family of Parisian craftsmen, with no link with the numerous dynasties of artists flourishing during this era. The way he pursued his life attest to his outstanding professional emancipation. At the same time, the personal life of the artist, whose background was very modest, attest to a certain social mobility, marked by many recognitions such as his academic affiliations, his links with the Nattier family and the exceptional progress of his economic, cultural and social situation. Punctuated by as many chaos as victories, the career of Michel-Ange Challe, alternately acting, subordinate, forced or emancipated, illustrate in many ways the situation of the parisian artists in the mid of the 18th century

Texto completoThe dissertation deals with Parmigianino’s activity as a portraitist during the two periods of time he spent in his native Parma, between 1503 and 1524 and then between 1531 and 1540. Its aim is to analyze the painter’s male portraits in particular, that is to to clarify their specific significances and, at the same time, to elucidate the visual and semantic processes through which Parmigianino elaborated the figurative discourses that his portraits convey, in the artistic, cultural, social and political context of their creation. To reach this goal, several methodological approaches are used. The disseration begins with a close study of the artistic history of Parma between 1500 and 1540 and an analysis of the traditions related to portraiture in the city, with regard to its many cultural and political relations to other regions and states (Milan, Venice, Bologna, Florence and Rome). The political history of Parma during the first half of the Cinquencento is an other field of research. Its purpose is to articulate the many institutionnal transformations of the comune, the conquest of Parma by several foreign powers between 1499 and 1520, until the creation of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza by Pope Paul III, with the market and practices of portraiture. After this close examination of the context, Parmigianino’s portraits are analyzed through a trans-disciplinary approach that deals with art history, cultural history (literature, history of the book, emblems, traditions of rethoric, linguistic debates), social and political history)

My research is focused on the careers of the painters who were members of the « Société libre des Beaux-Arts » (1868-1876), Belgium's first independent association of artists based on an aesthetic principle. With the aim of increasing the recognition and visibility of naturalistic paintings on the art scene, the association organized several exhibitions and published periodicals by supporting art critics. The « Société libre des Beaux-Arts » included approximately forty painters such as L. Artan, L. Dubois, C. Meunier and F. Rops. By analysing their use of exhibitions and the media, their critical reception and their place in the art market, I try to explore the emergence of the « independent artist » and the eventual transition from « the academic system » to « the dealer-critic system » in Belgium.

Texto completoIn a global context marked by the rise of an information society, shared knowledge and digital economy, this study proposes an assessment of the protection of databases by Copyright (french meaning), privileging a comparative approach between French and Senegalese law. By highlighting the elements of convergence but also of divergence that emerge from the confrontation between the two legislations, this analysis starts from the identification of the strengths and weaknesses of copyright, to propose orientations aimed at improving the legal framework for the protection of databases. Copyright being the unanimously consecrated protection mechanism for databases, it is necessary, far from divesting it, to identify the best legal options that could contribute to its reinforcement. In this respect, it is imperative to take into account a perfect balance between the various interests for the development of the information society

Texto completoFor the past 30 years, with a new definition of cultural policies and the urban environment, artists are being assigned social missions: reinforcing social connections, contributing to the opening up of low-income neighborhoods, and to the integration of marginalized populations. As a result, many theatre associations have moved into low-income neighborhoods with projects that involve the “direct participation” of the “residents”. New social worlds are arising in those areas at thecross roads of many universes : professional theater, politics, social movements and sociocultural activities.Based on an ethnographic survey in two low-income neighborhoods in France and in Italy, this thesis analyzes the emergence and the evolution of these new universes that we are calling the “worlds of theater actions”. On the one hand, the study focuses on the definition of policies that support the action of the theater in low-income neighborhoods and on the social role assigned to the artistic community in those neighborhoods. On the other hand, it analyses the effects of thosepolicies on the theater associations that act as intermediaries between the public authorities and the residents. The focus is on the way those policies are received by the artistic community working in those territories. The artistic community fulfills its role by making adjustments according to a personal set of aspirations and dispositions. Additionally, this thesis ponders theeffects of these projects on the participating “residents”. Many of these projects end up conveying a negative image of low-income classes, an outcome which constitutes an obstacle to the goals of empowerment theater directors claim to have

Texto completoThis present thesis, which studies the photographic portrait of Rineke Dijkstra, Dutch artist born in 1959, supports the hypothesis and explains the presence and the meaning of humanism in this photographic approach. The in-depth analysis of the Beach portraits series, created during the last decade of the twentieth century, is the base on which the arguments are elaborated. This thesis seeks answers through the analysis of the portraits and its relations with time, culture and social reality of a historical episode. The study of Rineke Dijkstra’s portraits and of her work’s discussions reveals a humanism which seems to insist on human fragility. By valuing what is deeply human in the portrait, the artist’s work distinguishes itself from the formal and conceptual approaches of the contemporary portrait which tend to a denial of the subjectivity. The perceptive experience of the viewer facing the Beach portraits series seems to reveal that the portrait returns the image of the viewer’s humanity.
