Texto completoSmart Grid is one of the solutions to achieve the European Union climate targets, "the 20-20-20- targets". These targets include e.g. higher energy-production from renewable sources and increased energy efficiency. The purpose of these targets is to prevent global warming in order to achieve a better and more sustainable future. The weakness with electric energy is the limited possibility of effective and large-scale storage. With solar power plants and wind power plants, the energy will only be produced under favorable weather conditions. By using Smart Grid the energy consumption, the energy production and the grid can be controlled in a higher scale than today. This will be done by advanced information- and control-technology which will gather and act on information from suppliers and consumers and then act upon the "smartest" alternative. According to the power industry several energy storage units must be built due to store the energy in terms of maximize the benefits of renewable energy during windy or sunny weather, when renewable energy is produced as its best. Some experts in the field believe that electric cars or industries could be possible energy storage units. Another advantage with Smart Grid is the ability for consumers to produce their own electric energy and sell the surplus to the energy market. Dynamic Rating is an important part of the implementation of Smart Grid and can best be described with the words "increasing the level of utilization". By using sensors, information should be measured in real time to maximize the utilization rate of the energy production, the energy consumption and the grid. Today, Vectura's mission in electricity infrastructure is largely focused on rail infrastructure. Now, they have a desire to extend their business in the field of electrical engineering, e.g. Smart Grid and Dynamic Rating. If Vectura will be able to start work on Smart Grids and Dynamic Rating in order to expand their business, training for its consultants is recommended in these areas: energy storage, sensors and renewable energy. Hydro power, wind power and solar power are the main renewable energy sources in the Swedish electricity market.

Texto completoThis report is aimed at developers, and knowledgeable people. The work is intended to provide insight into the smartTV world and also share the experience we have learned. We were asked by Eniro to create a smartTV application, that uses their services, the challenge were great and in an unknown field. We used agile methods to develop smartTV applica-tion. We worked in two man teams and also planned and led our project. The actual devel-opment began with an information search and planning. Although the actual development process was iterative, we had to plan the time we had been giving, because we only had 10 weeks to use only. This meant we had to set up certain boundaries and which services we would use and how much functionality we would have within the application. We used the Samsung SDK as a platform; they had their own emulator, which worked great and simulat-ed television the best way possible. After we a lot of testing and work on a weekly basis, we could each week present a co-product to the customer. This made the work more fun and more focused on what the customer wanted. Then, we could write our results down from the experiences we have gathered during the project. The results we chose to present first of all are written down as a couple of criteria that will be important for future investments in the smartTV world. These are then: It would be appropriate if the company has Web services based on HTML, Flash and/or JavaScript. The services should be easily navigated and not need much user interaction to work. The used systems should be able to integrate with Web services, unless the services are already online services. Appropriate services can be simple arcade games, movies, music, news, map search,People finder. new thinking and Innovation in terms of user interaction is needed for applications that require more user interaction.

Texto completoIn recent years, blockchain technology has received more and more attention. It has shown special advantages in digital currency, because it is distributed and its data cannot be altered. With more countries put forward the idea of the power system innovation, a large number of distributed power sources have emerged. The grid connection of these distributed power sources will lead to unstable grid operation and greatly increase the difficulty of management. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a solution that can realize direct transaction of distributed power supply. This article makes an in-depth analysis of the blockchain technology, including hash algorithm, consensus mechanism, Merkle tree, smart contract, etc. And then the Ethereum and smart grids are studied. This article realizes automation and intelligence of the electricity transaction measurement through the smart contract technology provided by Ethereum. A blockchain private chain is created and then the smart contract is deployed into the private chain. With the advantages of blockchain technology aforementioned, the storage of power data and the power transactions will be more credible and more transparent. All in all, this paper designs and builds a smart grid system based on the smart contract technology of blockchain. The system can be used not only for smart grid systems but also for other energy trading systems. This article provides a reference for the application of blockchain technology.

Texto completoThe Smartket project was born under the new needs faced by stores that offer healthy consumer products in terms of new sales trends and consumer demands, in the same way, it is intended to take advantage of the evident increase in this category of healthy consumption, added to the accelerated development of electronic commerce, driven by the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide. Therefore, this project is the sum of these three fundamental variables for its development. Therefore, this application, specialized in healthy consumption, will have 3 main objectives in the market. The first will be to align the stores to venture into electronic commerce and everything that involves its implementation, such as order taking, dispatches, delivery, electronic payments, etc. The second is to increase their average in terms of scope, product offer and sales; And the third objective will be to facilitate the purchase of healthy food for consumers, since they will have the possibility of placing their orders from any smartphone. In principle, for the development of this project, it is considered to work only with 3,500 stores delimited in the target market considered by the districts of La Molina, Santiago de Surco, Miraflores, Pueblo Libre, San Borja, San Isidro, Magdalena del Mar, Surquillo , Barranco, Jesús María, Lince and San Miguel. The execution of the project is estimated at an amount of 197,000 plus an injection of money of 187,000 by the partners to cover operating expenses for the first months of operations. Of the 197,000 soles, 85%, that is, 167,559 will be financed by the participation of 15 external investors, with contributions of 11,200 each, at a rate of 50% per year for three years, having as the final total redemption amount an amount of 19 640 each.

Texto completoCities around the world are currently experiencing a rapid urbanization which leads to a number of different challenges. Smart cities, which utilize ICT (Information Technology) are suggested as a solution so solve the problems that have risen. A key element of the smart city is the solid waste management in urban areas. Smart solid waste management is based on technical solutions to improve the monitoring, collection and transport of solid waste. The goal of this thesis is to investigate the impact new technical solutions have on solid waste management systems currently existing in cities. The thesis starts with a literature review where three key themes of smart solid waste management can be identified: (1) data generation; (2) data sharing and; (3) data analysis. Based on that, twelve projects in Europe that have implemented smart solid waste management systems are chosen and analyzed with the aim of investigating how the new technical solutions have affected the solid waste management in the cities. The analysis shows that the projects use the new technical solutions for different reasons, depending on the local existing preconditions. Furthermore, the analysis shows that the implementation of new smart waste management systems have led to increased citizen participation, increased capabilites to adapt to climate change, economical and environmental benefits as a result of a reduction of transport needed, increased cleanliness and improved long term planning support. The thesis ends with a discussion where the results of the analysis are evaluated and put in a wider context.

Texto completoThe last few years intelligent buildings and building automation have been increasingly discussed. The environment, sustainability and energy efficiency are subjects that are frequently discussed. Intelligent buildings could be a means to achieve profitability and sustainability. This study will begin with a review of different definitions of what an intelligent building is and arrive at a decision on what definition to use. From there a comparative case study with an inductive reasoning will be implemented. The purpose of the study is to find out if there is a difference in reliability between an intelligent building and a non-intelligent building. How these differences present themselves and where they can be found. The conclusion results in a theory formulated as there is no difference in reliability between an intelligent and a non-intelligent building. The triangulation model will be used to analyze the collected data. Both quantitative and qualitative data will be analyzed by comparison. To find relevant data fault reports from both buildings will be processed and analyzed, beyond that semistructured interviews will be conducted with employees that work with the buildings every day. To be able to implement a meaningful and reproducible study the report contains explanations of concepts as reliability, RCM, RAMS and fault tolerance.

Texto completoInterconnections are electrical conductive tracks that aim to transport electricity or digital signals between components in a circuit. The conventional way of doing this is to use connections of solid metal, since they have low electrical resistance and are thereby suitable conductors. In this study, different materials have been investigated for their suitability to be used as textile interconnections. Textile in-terconnections are needed in for instance medical measuring equipment garments. A textile interconnection in a garment needs to withstand washing and bending. In this study three conductive yarns are tested; Bekinox VN 12/2*275/175S, Shieldex 235/34 and Highflex 3981 7*1 Silver. A textile interconnection narrow fabric with four copper wires within, OHM-e-12-L-1, by the company Ohmatex has also been investigated. The conductive silicon Elastosil LR 3162 A/B has also been investigated for its suitability to fit as textile interconnection and as electrical contact with conductive yarns. Washing tests have been made to investigate how the materials electrical resistance is affected by washing. To measure and under-stand the materials flexibility and how the resistance is affected by bending of the material, the materials have been bended in a bending apparatus that has been developed in this study. It has also been investigated whether or not a silicon coat-ing, Dow Corning 3140 RTV Coating, of the yarns may protect them from the chemical and mechanical wearing of washing and bending. The change in re-sistance has then been compared to values of the uncoated yarns. Since the coat-ing is electrically isolating the yarns, screen printed contact points of Elastosil has been added and investigated. Bekinox withstands both washing and bending well. The electrical resistance of Shieldex increases by washing, but the silicon coated yarns increase less than the uncoated yarns. Shieldex withstands the bending test well and the change in re-sistance is low. Highflex passes the washing test well and has very low resistance. But the Highflex yarn is sensitive to mechanical deformation and gets damaged by the bending test. The silicon coating has no protecting effect here. Elastosil is not suitable as an interconnection and the contact points by Elastosil are neither working well together with the conductive yarns. But Elastosil do withstands both the washing and bending test well. The conductive narrow fabric by Ohmatex withstands both the washing and bending test well and it is suitable as an inter-connection.

Texto completoThe world’s energy demand is expected to increase and at the same time the environmental requirements are becoming stricter. To deal with the climate change and the greenhouse gas emissions, the use of fossil fuel need to decrease, while the energy efficiency and renewable energy production must increase. A greater share of intermittent renewable energy on the electricity market entails challenges. If there is no need for electricity when the wind is blowing or when the sun is shining the electricity is lost, this leads to production and consumption of electricity must occur simultaneously. To expand the renewable energy and make it more efficient, society must develop a smart grid. There are different opinions about what it takes to create smart grids, but electrical energy storage, EES, reappears frequently in the literature. There are even scientists who believe that investment in intermittent renewable energy sources is not an option unless energy can be stored. Compressed air energy storage is a technique that uses compressed air to store energy until there is a demand. The Swedish industry accounts for over a third of total energy consumption in the country. Over 90 % of the all manufacturing industry uses compressed air. There are big and small users of compressed air depending on the industry. In this study, an international status description is given in the development of smart grids with a focus on electrical energy storage systems. The aim of this study is to be an information carrier that creates discussion and new ideas. The international status description is based on field visits, literature surveys and interviews. The results from the international status description shows that interest in electric energy storage systems is increasing since it is a central part in the development of smart grids. Between 2011 and 2013 the investments increased in electrical energy storage with 521 %. One reason for this increase is the international trend of micro grids and small decentralized power plants. With the increased demand for energy storage, new energy storage systems are created and existing systems evolve. The purpose of the study is also to examine if energy storage is a solution for a sustainable supply of compressed air in the industry. The goal is to design a compressed air system consisting of wind turbines and energy storage with a certain volume and maximum pressure, for a large and a small compressed air consumer. The study will also determine the cost saving for the big users is an optimized through arbitrage. The design is based on simulations in Simulink and the optimization is done in MATLAB. The selected compressed air system for the large consumer is based on one wind turbine, energy storage of 200 m3 with a maximum pressure of 10 bar. The coverage ratio, i.e. the proportion of the air need that is covered by wind energy with energy storage, is 26 %. An investment in this system would give reduced energy consumption by 48 % leading to a cost reduction of about 1.2 million SEK and a reduced environmental impact equivalent to 532 tons of CO2-equivalents. The generator then has an efficiency of 85 %, and the compressor has 90 %. The selected compressed air system for the smaller consumer achieves a coverage rate of 61 % with the following dimensions; one windmill, energy storage of 20 m3 and maximum pressure of 30 bar. An investment in this system would give a reduced energy consumption by 93 %, leading to a cost reduction of about 26 000 SEK and a reduced environmental impact equivalent to 10.7 ton of CO2 equivalents. The difference between a windmill and a wind turbine is that the windmill does not produce electricity instead it uses kinetic energy directly. A system consisting of energy storage driven by energy from the wind is more suited for smaller air requirements where it is possible to achieve greater coverage. The transition to smart grids is necessary to be able to meet all aspects of sustainable development. There is no part of smart grids that is more important. Sustainable use of compressed air in industry is a part of smart grids and to make it possible energy storage is crucial. The international status description shows that there is a growing international interest in EES but there isn’t one EES alone that will solve the integration of renewable energy. The techniques for energy storage are existing today and are growing tomorrow.

Texto completoThe Isotropic radiator, a device capable of radiating energy evenly in all directions is an abstraction, itsʼ real counterpart is called an omnidirectional (omni) antenna. The omnidirectional antenna is found on many vehicles. Ideally, only one receiving system is ever needed to acquire an omni, no matter the vehicle orientation, given the range is not excessive. There are trade-offs with antenna efficiency, with gain typically around -15 dBi (95% coverage). This paper proposes abandoning this paradigm. If a vehicle knows where the ground is why radiate energy up into the sky, where there are no receiving stations. This can be achieved by integrating some instrumentation with a discrete antenna array so that it radiates only from selected elements. The accuracy required is modest, an inexpensive Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is sufficient to improve link margin by 10, 20dB or more. These numbers are credible, as outlandish as they are, and substantiated in this paper. Ironically, from the ground this non-isotropic antenna looks very isotropic. Of significant benefit, this Smarter Antenna concept enables spatial discrimination and with that comes spectrum efficiency gains beyond that achieved by other means including advanced modulation formats.

Texto completoThis study covers the implementation of fire departments in an urban platform in two parts. The purpose of first part is to examine how the urban platform can help developing the operation of fire departments and how this can contribute to a smart city. This is studied through interviews with different fire departments in the region of Mälardalen, Sweden, and an authority responsible for improving the society’s capabilities of managing emergencies. A number of areas within the fire departments, which an urban platform would improve, have been identified. Literature regarding smart cities have been combined with the empirical findings to discuss how the implementation of fire departments in an urban platform can contribute to a smart city. The purpose of the second part is to provide an example of how a fire department can be divided and modeled for an implementation in a potential urban platform. More precisely, the fire department Mälardalens brand- och räddningsförbund is investigated and modeled for an implementation in ABB’s control system 800xA. The result is three different structures that serve as the foundation for the model and a future implementation in an urban platform. In this part, it is also concluded that a necessary step to ensure an effective model is to relate the modelling to the greater context of a city.

Texto completoPiezoelectric materials are frequently used in different sensors as they can generate a measurable electrical signal during applied pressure or when subjected to extension. This project examines how a piezoelectric yarn containing Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is affected when exposed to moisture, heat and long-term mechanical deformation. Focus has been directed towards investigating the properties of the piezoelectric yarn as well as how it can be applied in textile fabrics and textile applications. The piezoelectric yarn has been subjected to a series of tests. Most of the samples have undergone cyclic deformation in an extensometer during tests. The piezoelectric yarn has been examined by experiments in laboratory environment, practical tests in textile applications as well as by statistical analysis. It can be stated that factors such as moisture and temperature have influence on the piezoelectric effect of the yarn. Long-term tests reveal how the yarn displays a change in length while undergoing deformation, which contributes to the diminished signal strength of the yarn. The piezoelectric yarn can successfully be integrated in a piece of fabric by the means of sewing when using correct stitch- length, where higher stitch-length gives a higher signal output. The same method can be applied to construct a piezoelectric sensor used in a training sock. This project can conclude that parameters such as moisture, creep-behaviour and structural variation within the PVDF-filaments have a significant effect on the signal created by the piezoelectric yarn. The potential of the yarn as a sensor can be seen by successfully applying it to a textile structure as well as in a training sock that can monitor the fore and rear foot while running. It can be stated that much remains to be studied in this particular research area regarding piezoelectric filaments and yarns. Further research in the subject will lead to new innovative applications that can be of use in different parts of society, not to say the least in the area of medicine.

Texto completoThe term Industrie 4.0 was first coined in Germany 2011, at the Hannover Messe, the world’s leading Trade Fair for Industrial Technology. It is a term describing the fourth Industrial Revolution. This revolution concerns making production more efficient, environmentally friendly and flexible, by integrating business processes with engineering processes. Since 2011, smart factories and implementation of smart technology in manufacturing has also been a major talking point. Many claim that smart technology and Industrie 4.0, together with the increasing demands for customization, will revolutionize the manufacturing industry and the expectations for what smart technology will contribute with are great. The purpose of the study is to investigate what factors of the production in manufacturing companies are affected by the introduction of smart technology, from year 2011 onwards. The factors identified and investigated are; flexibility, costs, lead times, environmental impact, product quality and reliability. The study was conducted in two stages. First, a literature study to identify and investigate the factors, and second, visits, interviews and verification of the factors with two manufacturing companies who have both implemented smart technology; Scania CV AB and Volvo Car Corporation. During the selected time period, these companies have, together with KTH, participated in the FFI Line information system architecture project (LISA) project where LISA is a type of smart factory; an information architecture. A conclusion to be drawn is that the factors mostly affected by smart technology within the manufacturing industry are some of those identified in this study; flexibility, costs, environmental impact and reliability. Examples of impact are; if an information architecture (for example LISA) is implemented, it becomes easier to implement changes in the factory. This makes the process chain more dynamic, which gives the company greater flexibility. With the help of connected units, companies are faster informed about errors in the production, which makes it possible to decrease the amount of scrap. This leads to cost savings. Also, by using speed-controlled engines and by optimizing the movements of robots, energy can be saved, which leads to less environmental impact and also cost savings. Though, by implementing smart technology, companies also make themselves dependent on wireless connectivity. Therefore, it becomes important to make sure reliable systems are used. Other factors affected by the implementation of smart technology are lead times and product quality, but they are rather affected as consequences of the affection of the other factors, mentioned above. Another conclusion to be drawn is that Industrie 4.0, within Swedish manufacturing, is considered to be an evolution rather than a revolution and smart technology is something that is implemented gradually.

Texto completoIndustry 4.0, the fourth industrial revolution, will change industrial production as we know it. Too often are the pros along with big companies who are a driving force of this revolution discussed; however, in this report the challenges small and medium sized enterprises face when implementing smart technology will be scrutinized. These companies represent over 90% of the Swedish industry and are extremely important for the economy, which is why this was chosen to be examined. The report is based on one theory chapter and one empirical study. The theory has been obtained from several technical publishes and summaries of technical conventions. The empirical study is based on two interviews and one article. One interview with a boss in a smaller industrial company, that focuses on lightning, who has a Master’s of Science in Engineering. The other interview was conducted with an expert in the area for implementing smart technology in SME, engaged in different projects for this purpose and work experience within ABB Robotics. The article is a large empirical study with multiple managers within manufacturing companies. The result is that for Industry 4.0 it is necessary that resources in the shape of competence, economy and machinery exists. That the manufacturing process in standardised, there must be services that helps companies to implement and develop smart technology, and that there is high IT-security in place. Today there is an extreme lack in knowledge and competence at SME concerning smart technology and Industry 4.0. The interest in the subject is weak if even existing. The manufacturing processes are not standardised. The conclusion is that the challenges are the lack of competence, the processes are not standardised, and that it's hard to integrate he technology with the existing machines. These problems are hard to avoid but easy to overcome. Assistance with competence are available and automated robots are on the market. The most important aspect is that the companies have, in the greatest extent possible, a will to evolve.
