Resumen
GxE interaction of seventeen dual purpose barley genotypes evaluated at ten major barley locations of the country by non parametric methods. Non parametric measures had been well established and expressed ad-vantages over their counter parts i.e. parametric measures. Simple descriptive measures based on the ranks of gen-otypes i.e. Mean of ranks (MR) pointed towards RD2925 and BH1008 and standard deviation of ranks (SD) for KB1401 and UPB1054 whereas Coefficient of variation (CV) for JB322 and RD2925 as stable genotypes. Nonpara-metric measures based on original values (Si1, Si2, Si3, Si4, Si5, Si6, Si7) indicated the stable performance of NDB1650, JB322 and UPB1054 while UPB1053, RD2715, RD2927 and RD2035 were observed of unstable nature. CSi1, CSi2, CSi3, CSi4, CSi5, CSi6 and CSi7 measures based on the ranks of corrected grain yield identified JB322, RD2552, RD2925 and NDB1650 as stable genotypes. Spearman’s rank correlation established highly significant positive correlation of yield with SD (0.67), Si1(0.65), Si2(0.59), Si5(0.68), Si7(0.67) whereas negative association observed for CMR (Mean of corrected ranks) (-0.62), CMed (Median of corrected ranks) (-0.60). NPi(2) expressed negative correlation with CV(-0.32), Si6 (-0.30), CMR(-0.34) and CMed(-0.48). More over NPi(3) maintained negative correlation with most of the measures though the magnitude was of low magnitude.

Resumen
Genotypes VL907, HS562, HPW484 were ranked as topped three in comparison to the other during the evaluation of nine wheat genotypes at major locations of the north hills zone of the country under rain fed conditions. The least values of AMMI stability measure (ASV) had expressed the desirability of HPW484, HS562, VL2041 genotypes whereas the genotypes HS562, HPW484, VL2041 had been identified by least values of Modified Ammi Stability Value (MASV). The minimum value of simultaneous selection index measure based on the MASV (ssiMASV) had selected HS562, HPW484, VL2041 wheat genotypes while values of ssiWAASB measure found the suitability of HPW484, HS562, HS691 wheat genotypes. The composite non parametric measure NPi (2) had favoured the VL892, HS562 genotypes and values of NPi (3) measure had settled for VL892, HS562 genotypes while VL892, HPW349 wheat genotypes had been pointed by the last composite measure NPi (4). The Ward’s method of Hierarchical Clustering had placed the VL907 genotype in a separate group as compared to others. The shorter rays of measures IPC2, IPC5, IPC3, SD had reflected the less contribution of the joint effects of genotypes and measures in the biplot analysis. Non parametric composite measure NPi (1) had expressed tight direct relation with Si1,Si3,Si4,Si5,Si6,Si7 values. The values of IPC6 & IPC4 had maintained the direct association with BLUP based analytic measures HMGV, RPGV, HMPRVG*Meanb, GAI, Meanb, RPGV*Meanb values. Moreover the values of CV measure had clustered with Si2, Si3, Si4,Si5, Si7 measures of this study.

Resumen
We present new electron-paramagnetic-resonance (EPR) data on the HEI4/SI5 center in 4H-SiC. So far, the SI5 (SI-5) center has been observed only in as-grown SiC substrates; however, we found that it can be created by electron irradiation to commercial n-type 4H-SiC. The artificially created SI5 center, which we had preliminary called HEI4, was found to be identical with the SI5 center in as-grown SiC. A high-intensity HEI4/SI5 spectrum of irradiated SiC revealed clear hyperfine structures of 29Si and 13C, which enabled us to identify the origin of this center as a carbon antisite-vacancy pair in the negative charge state (CSi-VC –). We assessed its electronic levels using photo-EPR.

Resumen
Polar sea ice profoundly affects atmospheric and oceanic circulation and plays a significant role in climate change. Sea ice concentration (SIC) is a key geophysical parameter used to quantify these changes. In this study, we determined SIC products for the Arctic and Antarctic from 2019 to 2021 using data from the Chinese marine satellite Haiyang 2B (HY-2B) with an improved bootstrap algorithm. Then the results were compared with similar operational SIC products and ship-based data. Our findings demonstrate the effectiveness of the improved algorithm for accurately determining SIC in polar regions. Additionally, the results of the study demonstrate that the SIC product obtained through the improved bootstrap algorithm has a high correlation with other similar SIC products. The daily average SIC of the different products showed similar inter-annual trends for both the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Comparison of the different SIC products showed that the Arctic BT-SMR SIC was slightly lower than the BT-SSMIS and BT-AMSR2 SIC products, while the difference between Antarctic SIC products was more pronounced. The lowest MAE was between the BT-SSMIS SIC and BT-SMR SIC in both regions, while the largest MAE was between the NT-SMR and BT-SMR in the Arctic, and between the NT-SSMIS and BT-SMR in the Antarctic. The SIE and SIA time series showed consistent trends, with a greater difference in SIA than SIC and a slight difference in SIA between the BT-AMSR2 and BT-SMR in the Arctic. Evaluation of the different SIC products using ship-based observation data showed a high correlation between the BT-SMR SIC and the ship-based SIC of approximately 0.85 in the Arctic and 0.88 in the Antarctic. The time series of dynamic tie-points better reflected the seasonal variation in sea ice radiation characteristics. This study lays the foundation for the release of long-term SIC product series from the Chinese autonomous HY-2B satellite, which will ensure the continuity of polar sea ice records over the past 40 years despite potential interruptions.

Resumen

The purposes of this study were to determine as a function of temperature the thermal diffusivity and/or thermal conductivity of SiC-Mullite and SiC-SiC, and to explain the observed behavior in terms of changes in temperature, microstructure, composition, and/or orientation.

Materials used in the SiC-Mullite study consisted of single crystal SiC whiskers (prepared from rice hulls or by the vapor-liquid-solid process) dispersed within a polycrystalline mullite matrix. During measurement of thermal diffusivity, the samples were heated to l500°C and cooled back to room temperature. No hysteresis occurred. However, both thermal diffusivity and conductivity exhibited maximum values at room temperatures, perpendicular to the hot pressing direction, at high volume percentages of SiC whiskers, and when VLS whiskers were employed.

The SiC-SiC samples consisted of a crossweave of polycrystalline SiC uÌ bers that were coated with phenolic resin and surrounded by a chemically-vapordeposited matrix of SiC. The two types of samples examined were prepared with different amounts of resin. The matrices of the high resin samples were found to be dominated by the presence of char. Samples were cycled to 1000, 1400, and l800°C; hysteresis occurred on some of the cycles. Thermal diffusivity was highest parallel to one set of fibers.

These results allow the qualitative tailoring of the heat flow properties of these ceramic composites, for particular applications, and set forth limitations on the use of the SiC-SiC composites at high temperatures.

We describe a development of a voltammetric method for determination of glyphosate in commercial formulations using sequential injection analysis to carry the sample to a flow cell adapted to the capillary of a mercury drop electrode. Glyphosate is batch-derivatized with nitrous acid in hydrochloric acid to produce N-nitroso glyphosate, which is electroactive. The limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.7 and 2.4 mg L-1, respectively. The method was applied to three formulations, obtaining results that differed from the value indicated by the manufacturer by -2.6, -0.8 and -28%. Next, the thesis describes the development of a sequential injection method to automate the fluorimetric determination of glyphosate based on a first step of oxidation to glycine by hypochlorite, followed by reaction with o-phthaldialdehyde in presence of 2-mercaptoethanol (OPA-MCE) in borate buffer (pH>9) to produce a fluorescent 1-(2´-hydroxyethylthio)-2-N-alkylisoindole. The proposed method exhibited a linear response for glyphosate concentrations between 0.25 and 25.0 µmol L-1, with LOD and LOQ of 0.08 and 0.25 µmol L-1, respectively. The sampling rate of the method was 18 samples per hour. The method was applied to study adsorption/desorption properties in a soil and in a sediment sample. Adsorption and desorption isotherms were properly fitted by Freundlich and Langmuir equations, leading to adsorption capacities of 1384 ± 26 and 295 ± 30 mg kg-1 for the soil and sediment samples, respectively. Determination of glyphosate and AMPA in water samples was performed by sequential injection chromatography (SIC) with fluorimetric detection by exploiting the same reactions with hypochlorite and OPA-MCE. The carrier solution plays a role of mobile phase, being composed of 25:75 (v v-1) methanol : 10 mmol L-1 phosphate buffer (pH 6.8). The chromatographic step enhanced the method selectivity. The sampling throughput was 6 analyzes per hour with LOD and LOQ of 0.14 and 0.42 µmol L-1 for AMPA and 0.11 and 0.33 µmol L-1 for glyphosate, respectively. Recovery tests in natural water samples enriched with 0.50 µmol L-1 in the compounds led to recovery rates from 82 to 140% for AMPA and 84 to 96% for glyphosate. We investigated the effect of the herbicide on cultivation of two species of marine microalgae - the Chlorophyta, Tetraselmis gracilis and the diatomaceous Phaeodactilum tricornutum. To achieve this goal, different concentrations of glyphosate (2 to 1000 mg L-1) were added to cultures growing in exponential phase. Doses between 2 and 50 mg L-1 caused a slight increase in algal growth compared to the control culture without glyphosate. The quantum yield of photosynthesis increased slightly in some days in the cultivation of P. tricornutum at low concentrations of glyphosate. The glyphosate concentration of 200 mg L-1 decreases the cell growth and caused a marked decline in the fluorescence quantum yield of photosynthesis. Profiles of aromatic amino acids, tyrosine, tryptophan and phenylalanine differed in the algae

Abstract Issues with using High Pressure Turbine SiC/SiC CMC vanes and rotor blades for future commercial aircraft engines to reduce fuel burn, and CO2 emissions are explored. The higher temperature capability of SiC/SiC CMC vanes and rotor blades enables higher values of T40 and OPR, which leads to smaller engine cores and lower SFC. Decreasing engine weight, especially for long range flights, can be as significant as decreasing cruise SFC in terms of reduced fuel burn. Specific work increases as T40 increases, and. engine core weight decreases. The work focuses on the first stage vane, and shows that film cooled SiC/SiC vanes are highly desirable. Otherwise, excessive vane thermal stresses are likely. Increases in T40 have accompanied increases in engine OPRs. This leads to small spans in the high pressure components. The effect of decreased spans on blade row efficiency is examined. Cycle analyses are presented which show the effects of changes in blade row efficiency on SFC and specific work.

Resumen
Silicon carbide (SiC) and SiC matrix composites (SiCf/SiC) are being investigated as potential fuel cladding materials for advanced PWRs in order to improve the safety of nuclear power plants. The conceptual design of multi-layered SiC cladding (consisting of a monolithic SiC layer, SiCf/SiC composite layer and a monolithic SiC coating layer) has been investigated to meet the fuel requirements of both the strength and impermeability. A stress distribution model of the triple-layered SiC is developed on the basis of the theory of thermo-elasticity mechanics, taking radial temperature gradient and swelling effects into account as well. The heat transferring behavior of the cladding is investigated by analyzing the temperature distribution under steady conditions. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code ANSYS is used to obtain the stress and temperature nephogram of multi-layered SiC fuel cladding under simulated steady conditions. Compared with the results of ANSYS, the stress distribution model and temperature distribution is validated.

Resumen
The Research Institute of Advanced Materials Gas-Generator (AMG), which is a joint effort by the Japan Key Technology Center and 14 firms in Japan, has, since fiscal year 1992, been conducting technological studies on an innovative gas generator that will use 20% less fuel, weigh 50% less, and emit 70% less NOx than the conventional gas generator through the use of advanced materials. Within this project, there is an R&D program for applying ceramic matrix composite (CMC) liners to the combustor, which is a major component of the gas generator. In the course of R&D, continuous SiC fiber-reinforced SiC composite (SiCF/SiC) was selected as the most suitable CMC for the combustor liner because of its thermal stability and formability. An evaluation of the applicability of the SiCF/SiC composite to the combustor liner on the basis of an evaluation of its mechanical properties and stress analysis of a SiCF/SiC combustor liner was carried out, and trial SiCF/SiC combustor liners, the largest of which was 500mm in diameter, were fabricated by the filament winding and PIP (polymer impregnation and pyrolysis) method. Using a SiCF/SiC liner built to the actual dimensions, a non-cooling combustion test was carried out and even when the gas temperature was raised to 1873K at outlet of the liner, no damage was observed after the test. Through our studies we have confirmed the applicability of the selected SiCF/SiC composite as a combustor liner. In this paper, we describe the present state of the R&D of a CMC combustor liner.

Texto completo
Resumen
The single nano-scale and multi-phase nanocomposite ceramic materials including Al2O3/Al2O3n/SiCn and Al2O3/Ti(C0.7N0.3)n/SiCn are successfully fabricated. Their mechanical properties are better than those of the single-phase alumina material and conventional alumina matrix materials. The multi-scale and single-phase nanocomposite ceramic tool material Al2O3/SiCμ/SiCn is also successfully fabricated. Its flexural strength and fracture toughness is higher than those of single-scale materials Al2O3/SiCμ and Al2O3/SiCn. The multi-scale and multi-phase nanocomposite ceramic tool material Al2O3/TiCμ/TiNn is finally developed by incorporation and dispersion of micro-scale TiC particle and nano-scale TiN particle in alumina matrix, which can get higher flexural strength and fracture toughness than those of Al2O3/TiC ceramic tool material without nano-scale TiN particle. The coexistent function of nano-scale Al2O3 or Ti(C0.7N0.3), nano-scale SiC and TiN can reduce the sintering temperature and sintering duration time as well as the grain size, and improve the material densification and mechanical properties. The nano-scale SiC grains locating along the grain boundary and inside the micro-scale alumina can form the hybria intergranular-intragranular microstructure which can result in hybria intergranular-transgranular fracture and improve the mechanical properties of the ceramic material. Crack deflection, forking and bridging effects are the main cause for improving the fracture toughness of the materials including Al2O3/Ti(C0.7N0.3)n/SiCn and Al2O3/TiCμ/TiNn.

Resumen
SiC fiber composite material as fuel cladding is proposed to increase the power density and maximum allowable fuel burnup in light water reactors. Empirical models about thermal properties of the SiC material are developed as a function of operating temperature and neutron fluence. A fuel rod modeling code frapcon2-SiC based on frapcon2 is compiled to predict the performance of SiC cladding when operating. Comparison of the behavior between the SiCf/SiC cladding and Zr-4 cladding in different thickness reveals that higher temperature will get due to the poor thermal conductivity of the SiC. As far as the Conclusion shows that Poor thermal performance of SiC cladding makes the design margin becomes smaller.

Resumen
Gas turbine components such as combustor liners or turbine vanes are subject to regions of high stress-concentration, e.g. attachment to the frame or at cooling holes. Ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are potential materials for high temperature applications in gas turbines. They offer some capability to relieve stress at regions of high stress-concentration via matrix damage accumulation. In this study notch sensitivity was examined for woven SiC fiber reinforced, melt-infiltrated SiC matrix composites with a BN interphase, utilizing either Hi-Nicalon™ fibers or the stiffer Sylramic® fibers. The double-edge notched tensile test approach was used for a wide range of notch sizes and specimen widths. Both composite systems exhibited mild notch sensitivity similar to other CMC systems. Acoustic emission, detected during the tensile tests, indicated that matrix cracking occurred around notches at net-section stresses below the stress where matrix cracking first occurs in unnotched specimens. However, thermoelastic stress analysis did not show any measurable stress relief around notches after the specimens were preloaded.
