Resumen
Free spectral range (FSR) of reflection spectrum of micro-ring resonator restricts the improvement in user capacity of the optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system using micro-ring resonator array. Vernier effects can expand FSR of cascaded optical microring resonator. Based on vernier effect, a novel two-dimensional coherent optical en/decoder using serially coupled dumbbell micro-ring resonator is proposed in this paper. The theoretical model of optical transmission for series dumbbell-shaped microring resonators is established. The relation between the suppression of pseudo-modes in optical reflection spectrum and the coupling coefficient is analyzed in detail. The effects of coupling coefficient, processing error and chip rate on the performance of series dumbbell microring resonator optical en/decoder are studied. The en/decoding simulation experiments are carried out on a series dumbbell-shaped micro-ring resonator with radius of 40 μm-30 μm-40 μm respectively. The results show that comparing with the traditional series micro-ring resonator with radius of 40 μm-40 μm-40 μm respectively, the FSR value of dumbbell microcavity is increased by 4 times and the user capacity can increase exponentially. Meanwhile, the ratio of autocorrelation peak to maximum wing (<i>P</i>/<i>W</i>) and the cross-correlation ratio (<i>P</i>/<i>C</i>) are increased by about 33% and 8%, respectively.

Resumen
In near future, silicon-on-insulator (SOI) microring resonator are expected to be basic components for wavelength filtering and switching due to their compact size and wide free spectral range (FSR). In this paper, a 2X2 optical switch by using active microring resonator is proposed. The switch is consists of second order serially cascaded microring coupled to a pair of waveguide. The ON/OFF state of the design is control by electric signal which will vary the refractive index. The device is design to operate at 1.55µm wavelength. With a 500nm x 200nm rib dimensions, the design is proven to have single mode behaviour. Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method simulation by RSOFT software is use to characterize the device performance. The results show that the 2X2 optical switch proposed can be an efficient device to be functioning in WDM application.

Resumen
AbstractA serially coupled double-ring resonator using the low loss multilayer silicon wire waveguide is presented that has featured high out-of-band rejection and high finesse. The round trip loss and Q factor has also been calculated and found moderate. However, extremely low loss waveguide has shown reduced coupling between the ring and the waveguide.

Resumen
We studied the metal-insulator-metal square ring resonator design incorporated with nano-dots that serve to squeeze the surface plasmon wave in the cavity of the ring. The E-field enhances at the boundaries of the nano-dots providing a strong interaction of light with the surrounding medium. As a result, the sensitivity of the resonator is highly enhanced compared to the standard ring resonator design. The best sensitivity of 907 nm/RIU is obtained by placing seven nano-dots of radius 4 nm in all four sides of the ring with a period (ᴧ)= 3r. The proposed design will find applications in biomedical science as highly refractive index sensors. Full Text: PDF References:Z. Han, S. I. Bozhevolnyi. Resumen
AbstractAn optical-based label-free biosensors including two indirectly coupled double-slot-waveguide-based microring resonator was designed and optimized for sensing purpose. Then, the optimized system was applied for the detection of hemoglobin concentration in anemia disease. The results were simulated based on the variational finite-difference time domain (varFDTD) method using the Lumerical software (Mode solutions) and the optimum geometrical parameters were determined to realize an optimum light transmission via the sensor. Nine different concentrations of hemoglobin in men and women were applied into the sensor and the status of anemia was identified based on the patients’ gender and different status of anemia disease, including the normal, mild, moderate, severe and life-threatening status. A sensitivity as high as 1024 nm/RIU with the minimum deflection limit of 4.88 × 10–6 RIU were measured for this biosensor, which introduces a high precision and micro-scale lab-on-a-chip micro device for health monitoring of the anemia.
