Resumen
We prove a quadratic interaction estimate for approximate solutions to scalar conservation laws obtained by the wavefront tracking approximation or the Glimm scheme. This quadratic estimate has been used in the literature to prove the convergence rate of the Glimm scheme. The proof is based on the introduction of a quadratic functional 𝔔(t), decreasing at every interaction, and such that its total variation in time is bounded. Differently from other interaction potentials present in the literature, the form of this functional is the natural extension of the original Glimm functional, and coincides with it in the genuinely nonlinear case.

Resumen
For systems of hyperbolic conservation laws, a new Glimm functional was recently constructed when the linearly degenerate manifold in each characteristic field is either the whole space or it consists of a finitely many smooth and transversal manifolds of codimension one. This new functional leads to the neat consistency and convergence rate estimation of the Glimm scheme. In this paper, by the motivation of the result in Ref. 2, we show that the corresponding new Glimm functional can be constructed for general systems only under the strict hyperbolicity assumption.

Resumen
In this paper, we investigate the initial-boundary value problem of compressible Euler equations including friction and heating that model the transonic Fanno–Rayleigh flows through symmetric variable area nozzles. In particular, the case of contracting nozzles is considered. A new version of a generalized Glimm scheme (GGS) is presented for establishing the global existence of entropy solutions with bounded variation. Modified Riemann and boundary Riemann solutions are applied to design this GGS, which is constructed using the contraction matrices acting on the homogeneous Riemann (or boundary-Riemann) solutions. The extended Glimm–Goodman’s type of wave interaction estimates are investigated to determine the stability of the scheme and the positivity of gas velocity that results in the existence of the weak solution. The limit of approximation solutions serves as an entropy solution. Moreover, a quantitative relation between the shape of the nozzle, friction, and heat is proposed for the global existence result in the contracting nozzle. Numerical simulations of the contraction-expansion and expansion-contraction nozzles are presented to validate the scheme.

Resumen
AbstractThe formation of singularities in relativistic flows is not well understood. Smooth solutions to the relativistic Euler equations are known to have a finite lifespan; the possible breakdown mechanisms are shock formation, violation of the subluminal conditions and mass concentration. We propose a new hybrid Glimm/central-upwind scheme for relativistic flows. The scheme is used to numerically investigate, for a family of problems, which of the above mechanisms is involved.

General hyperbolic systems of balance laws with inhomogeneous flux and source are studied. Global existence of entropy weak solutions to the Cauchy problem is established for small BV data under appropriate assumptions on the decay of the flux and the source with respect to space and time. There is neither a hypothesis about equilibrium solution nor about the dependence of the source on the state vector as previous results have assumed.

Resumen
AbstractThe numerical simulation of non conservative system is a difficult challenge for two reasons at least. The first one is that it is not possible to derive jump relations directly from conservation principles, so that in general, if the model description is non ambiguous for smooth solutions, this is no longer the case for discontinuous solutions. From the numerical view point, this leads to the following situation: if a scheme is stable, its limit for mesh convergence will depend on its dissipative structure. This is well known since at least [1]. In this paper we are interested in the “dual” problem: given a system in non conservative form and consistent jump relations, how can we construct a numerical scheme that will, for mesh convergence, provide limit solutions that are the exact solution of the problem. In order to investigate this problem, we consider a multiphase flow model for which jump relations are known. Our scheme is an hybridation of Glimm scheme and Roe scheme.

Resumen
In this paper, we consider the compressible Euler-Poisson system in spherically symmetric space-times. This system, which describes the conservation of mass and momentum of physical quantity with attracting gravitational potential, can be written as a $3\times 3$ mixed-system of partial differential systems or a $2\times 2$ hyperbolic system of balance laws with $global$ source. We show that, by the equation for the conservation of mass, Euler-Poisson equations can be transformed into a standard $3\times 3$ hyperbolic system of balance laws with $local$ source. The generalized approximate solutions to the Riemann problem of Euler-Poisson equations, which is the building block of generalized Glimm scheme for solving initial-boundary value problems, are provided as the superposition of Lax's type weak solutions of the associated homogeneous conservation laws and the perturbation terms solved by the linearized hyperbolic system with coefficients depending on such Lax solutions.

Resumen
Abstract. Using data collected by the Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean (HICO) on the International Space Station between 2010–2014, hyperspectral reflectance spectra of various floating matters in global oceans and lakes are derived for the spectral range of 400–800 nm. Specifically, the entire HICO archive of 9411 scenes is first visually inspected to identify suspicious image slicks. Then, a nearest-neighbor atmospheric correction is used to derive surface reflectance of slick pixels. Finally, a spectral unmixing scheme is used to derive the reflectance spectra of floating matters. Analysis of the spectral shapes of these various floating matters (macroalgae, microalgae, organic particles, whitecaps) through the use of a spectral angle mapper (SAM) index indicates that they can mostly be distinguished from each other without the need for ancillary information. Such reflectance spectra from the consistent 90 m resolution HICO observations are expected to provide spectral endmembers to differentiate and quantify the various floating matters from existing multi-band satellite sensors and future hyperspectral satellite missions such as NASA's Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) mission; Geosynchronous Littoral Imaging and Monitoring Radiometer (GLIMR) mission; and Surface Biology and Geology (SBG) mission. All spectral data are available at https://doi.org/10.21232/74LvC3Kr (Hu, 2021b).

Resumen
AbstractWe assessed multiple environmental factors that might influence the population vitality of the epiphytic lichenLobaria pulmonariaat the individual tree and habitat levels in partially overgrown wooded meadows in Estonia. A total of 301 trees of four species were sampled at nine study plots, using a stratified factorial scheme, 151 colonized byL. pulmonariaand 150 not colonized byL. pulmonariaforming the control group. We used the Generalized Linear Models (GLZ) to identify a complex of factors which predicts the probability of the lichen occurring on tree trunks and the presence of apothecia on its individuals. We employed the General Linear Mixed Model (GLMM) to study the relationship between cover ofL. pulmonariaand environmental factors. The occurrence probability ofL. pulmonariaon tree trunks increased with increasing light availability and height of deciduous shrubs near the trunk, and decreased with increasing distance to the nearest colonized tree. The host tree species and its trunk properties were also of importance, particularly the facilitating effect of the cover of bryophytes uponL. pulmonaria. The probability of occurrence of apothecia increased with maximum values of bark pH and cover ofL. pulmonariaon the trunk. We conclude that partially overgrown wooded meadows are suitable habitats forL. pulmonaria. However, to maintain the vitality of these populations, a specific management scheme, preventing development of a dense stand, should be applied. Management requirements would include 1) selective cutting of overgrowing coniferous trees (particularly spruce), 2) preservation of adult and younger potential host trees within 10–20 m of colonized trees, 3) preservation of scattered deciduous shrubs in the vicinity of the host trees.

Resumen
Abstract. A conceptual hydrological model was set up in the upper Panj catchment, the main tributary of Amu-Darya river. Driven by daily temperature and precipitation, the model reproduced daily hydrographs of Tanimas river at the Rukhk gauging station in a very satisfactory way. Based on two glacier inventories from the mid-20st century (WGI, World Glacier Inventory) and from 2003 (GLIMS, Global Land Ice Measurements from Space), a simple parameterization scheme based on steady state conditions was applied to infer the ice volumes and glacier areas for the two different time periods in the past. Assuming temperature rises of 2.2 °C and 3.1 °C, which mark the extreme values of regional climate scenarios, the same method was used to extrapolate glaciation to the year 2050. The results show that these temperature rises will reduce the current glacier extent of 431 km2 by 36% and 45%, respectively. To assess future changes in water availability, the hydrological model input was modified according to the regional climate scenarios and the resulting glacier changes. The use of an elevation distributed deglaciation pattern is a clear improvement over methods used previously, where the impact on runoff was tested by excluding either the lower half or the total glacier area. The runoff scenarios reveal no changes in annual runoff, because the glacier area decrease is balanced out by enhanced melt rates. However, there is an important seasonal shift of water resources from summer to spring, unfavorably affecting agriculture and irrigation in the lowlands.

Resumen
Abstract The Glimm scheme is one of the so famous techniques for getting solutions of the general initial value problem by building a convergent sequence of approximate solutions. The approximation scheme is based on the solution of the Riemann problem. In this paper, we use a new strength function in order to present a new kind of total variation of a solution. Based on this new variation, we use the Glimm scheme to prove the global existence of weak solutions for the nonlinear ultra-relativistic Euler equations for a class of large initial data that involve the interaction of nonlinear waves.

Abstract This paper is devoted to the numerical analysis of a numerical scheme for the simulation of front advection. The scheme has been recently proposed and it is based on the ideas used for Glimm’s scheme. It relies on a two-step approach: a convection step is followed by a projection step, which is based on a random choice. The main advantage of this scheme is that it is applicable to multidimensional problems. In the present paper, a convergence result for this scheme is provided for a particular class of multidimensional problems.

Resumen
ObjectiveThe Global Leader Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria have been recommended for malnutrition diagnosis recently, for which the first step is malnutrition risk screening with any validated tool. This study aims to investigate the incidence of malnutrition risk in gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) inpatients and compare the suitability of Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 (NRS2002) and Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST) as the first-step screening tool for GLIM criteria.MethodsWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of GIST inpatients in our hospital from January 2015 to December 2019. NRS2002 and MUST were used to screen malnutrition risk at the time of admission. The diagnostic consistency of these two tools with GLIM criteria for malnutrition was analyzed, and the predictive performance of both tools for the length of hospital stay and the occurrence of complications was also evaluated in surgical and non-surgical inpatients.ResultsA total of 269 GIST inpatients were included in this study, of which 45.7 and 40.9% were at malnutrition risk determined by NRS2002 and MUST, respectively. In non-surgical inpatients, NRS2002 and MUST had similar diagnostic consistency with GLIM criteria in sensitivity (93.0 vs. 97.7%), specificity (81.1 vs. 81.1%), and Kappa value (K = 0.75 vs. 0.80), and high nutritional risk classified by NRS2002 and malnutrition identified by GLIM criteria were found to be associated with the length of hospital stay. In surgical inpatients, MUST had better diagnostic consistency with GLIM criteria in sensitivity (86.1 vs. 53.5%) and Kappa value (K = 0.61 vs. 0.30) than NRS2002, but no factors were found associated with the length of postoperative hospital stay or the occurrence of complications.ConclusionThe malnutrition risk is common in GIST inpatients. NRS2002 is more suitable than MUST for the first-step risk screening of the GLIM scheme in non-surgical inpatients, considering its better performance in screening malnutrition risk and predicting clinical outcomes. MUST was found to have good diagnostic consistency with GLIM criteria for malnutrition in both non-surgical and surgical GIST inpatients, and further studies need to be conducted to investigate its predictive performance on clinical outcomes.

Resumen
We consider the spherical piston problem in relativistic fluid dynamics. When the spherical piston expands at a constant speed, we show that the self-similar solution with a shock front exists under the relativistic principle that all velocities are bounded by the light speed. The equation of state is given by P = σ 2 ρ P= \sigma ^2 \rho , where σ \sigma , the sound speed, is a constant. It is an important model describing the evolution of stars. Also, we present the global existence of BV solutions for the relativistic Euler system given that the piston speed is perturbed around a constant in a finite time interval. The analysis is based on the modified Glimm scheme and the smallness assumption is required on the initial data.

Resumen
Abstract The European Habitats Directive prescribes Member States to report on trends in abundance and distribution of protected species. One of these species is Graphoderus bilineatus (De Geer, 1774), a middle-sized predaceous aquatic beetle, listed in Annex II and IV of the Habitats Directive. In the Netherlands, a monitoring scheme for this species has been set up to assess the national trend as well as the trend in the national Natura2000 sites. In this scheme, a selection of 1 km2 squares is surveyed in cycles of six years using a standardized field method by professional fieldworkers. In each selected square, five locations were sampled per annum (September–October) by two different observers using hand netting. The data of the first two rounds (2011–2016 and 2017–2022) have been analysed using both an occupancy model and a Poisson GLMM. We found evidence of a declining trend in occupancy as well as in population size. The decreases were stronger outside than within Natura2000 sites and also stronger than those of three other beetle species that are often found together with G. bilineatus. In addition, considerable differences between observers were detected in the data, despite the application of a standardized field method. Implications for insect conservation Graphoderus bilineatus is declining and the decline is stronger outside Natura2000 sites then within, most likely due to differences in the development of water quality, vegetation structure and water management. Further research is required to identify the exact causes of the decline; however water quality improvement seems essential to turn the tide. The study also shows the benefits of a monitoring scheme for trend assessments. The recent decline would probably not have been noticed based on distribution data alone.

Resumen
Abstract Background Family doctor service (FDS) is a scheme oriented to improving the access and continuity of primary care in China. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) management is a core component of FDS. However, evidence on the quality of T2DM care is lacking and the potential association between FDS attributes and T2DM care is largely unknown. This study attempted to assess the process quality of T2DM care in general practice and explore the association between patient perceived FDS attributes and process quality of T2DM care. Methods Total 400 patients were recruited from 5 community health service centers in two urban districts in Beijing. Questionnaire survey and extraction of data from electronic health record (EHR) were conducted to collect patient characteristics, patient perceived FDS attributes (accessibility, continuity and team-based care) and process quality indicators (monitoring and health counseling indicators). Chi-square test and a two-level generalized linear mixed model (GLMM) were used to explore the association between FDS attributes and process quality. Results The utilization rate of all the 12 indicators in monitoring, 6 indicators in health counseling and all the 18 process indicators, was 12.8%, 23.8% and 6.0% respectively. Over half of the patients (56.8%) perceived all the 3 FDS attributes. There were statistically significant associations between accessibility of care and lipid (p = 0.008), electrocardiogram (p = 0.016), retinopathy (p = 0.037) and peripheral neuropathy (p = 0.006) monitoring and each of the 6 health counseling indicators (all the p values < 0.05). Regular follow up (p = 0.039), plasma blood glucose (p = 0.020), blood pressure (p = 0.026), body mass index (p = 0.044) and foot (p = 0.005) monitoring as well as each of the 6 health counseling indicators (all the p values < 0.05) were more likely to be received by patients when continuity of care was ensured. Patients who were managed by a GP team had higher utilization rate of glycosylated hemoglobin monitoring (p = 0.026) and each of the 6 health counseling indicators (all the p values < 0.05). When the patients perceived one more FDS attribute, the indicators they received significantly increased by 1.50 (coefficient = 1.50, p < 0.001). Patients between the age of 65 and 74 years received 1.15 more indicators than those under 65 (coefficient = 1.15, p = 0.003). Patients with more than ten years duration of T2DM received 0.74 more indicators (coefficient = 0.74, p = 0.028). Patients taking both insulin and oral medicine received 0.97 more indicators than those taking oral medication only (coefficient = 0.97, p = 0.027). Patients who were managed by GPs with on-job training experience received 1.19 more indicators (coefficient = 1.19, p = 0.040). Among the patients who had completed junior high school or below, having better self-report health status (≥ 60) received 2.40 less indicators (coefficient = -2.40, p = 0.004). Conclusions Improvement of key monitoring and health counseling indicators might be needed in T2DM care in general practice in Beijing, China. Policies for improving process quality of T2DM care should be considered.
