Resumen
The research has been all about evaluating the link between scars and wearable art. The scope of this research is quite broad, and it helps people to explore positions from different perspectives. For this purpose, secondary data intervention with the help of qualitative data has been provided. The focus towards secondary data collection has involved the contribution made by victims of certain scars. This paper explored the relationship between scar and wearable art from different cultural backgrounds, medicine, anthropology, philosophy, psychology and other fields. However, it has been depicted that the link between scars and wearable art is quite strong. Still, there is a certain degree of complacency and dependency on external factors such as the perception of the society and element psychological well-being of the entities. Moreover, gender-related factors and the role of age are also very important in the impact of wearable art, and social pressure and social support also play an important role.

Resumen
This study explores the eco-artivism of women's art collectives for ecological sustainability by looking at actor-networks, eco-art as a non-human actor, and women's art collective negotiations. In Indonesia, eco-artivism is used to raise ecological awareness and strengthen socio-environmental protests in the ecological crisis. To explain the relationship of ecological sustainability in the artistic works of women's art collectives, we underline the connection between ecofeminism and Actor-Network Theory (ANT). We used a case study method with the Perempuan Pengkaji Seni (PPS) community, an art collective of female artists, workers, and researchers based in East Java, Indonesia. We find that the eco-artivism of women’s art collectives is an attempt to make women and nature become active subjects. These efforts can be seen in three resulting themes: the PPS network as a women's art collective, eco-art from the scars left by natural disasters to the impact of industrialization, and the negotiation of PPS as a women’s art collective for environmental sustainability.

The Torres Strait is often in the research literature – unsurprisingly since it is not only a key area for early settlement but one where ancient and modern practice resonate. Rock art is a prominent archaeological source for the region – but not the only one. In this study the author shows how rock art interconnects with imagery on portable artefacts and scarification – scarring patterns on skin – to define cultural zones of the last few centuries in territories occupied by both horticulturalists and hunter-gatherers.

Resumen
The article focuses on the phenomenon of soc-art as part of the parodic reimagining of socialist realism literature. It examines its secondary reception as part of the nostalgia of the 70s-80s of the 20th century, which is a lack, a hiatus, a non-realization, but a part of the past of thousands of people. The phenomenon is placed against the back-ground of Bulgarian literature and the story "The Anyuta Case" by the writer Alek Popov is drawn for analysis. This story shows the way in which Bulgarian literature in the 90s of the 20th century ironically and without a lack of nostalgia interprets the time of socialist realism and its values. The aesthetics of socialist realism are turned upside down, and the writer demonstrates all the insanity and idiocy of the reality he was called to reflect. Unlike the late 20th century Russian soc-art, which is perceived more nostalgically than ironically, this work from the late 20th century unambiguous-ly reveals the scars of a time that, despite the usual nostalgia of the generation, could not sound nostalgic.

Alterations in the mismatch repair (MMR) system result in genomic instability, neoantigen production, and immune response in cancer. There is evidence that gastroesophageal tumors with MMR deficiency may be susceptible to immune-checkpoint inhibitors treatment, especially in those presenting at advanced-stage disease. Although a number of biomarkers have been developed in histology-agnostic settings to assess MMR status, there is evidence that a tumor-specific testing approach would improve the selection of patients for immunotherapy. However, no testing methods have been developed specifically for gastroesophageal cancers so far. Here, we discuss the state of the art, current advances, and future perspectives of MMR-related biomarkers’ biologic and clinical role in gastroesophageal cancers.

Resumen
Dutch director Sacha Polak’s Dirty God (2019) is the first narrative film with a female lead whose scars are real, and arguably the first to tackle the assumption that scars (especially on a woman’s body) are shameful or tragic. Vicky Knight, who plays Jade, a young woman rebuilding her life after an acid attack, has talked about the revelation of seeing her body on screen after enduring years of abuse because of her appearance. Polak ‘saved my life’ she says, by enabling her to see her scarred body as beautiful, ‘a piece of art.’ Like any art form, film has the potential to be transformative, and in interviews both Knight and Polak have repeatedly spoken of their work in those terms. This article uses Dirty God to think about what is at stake in the dismantling of stereotypes and the reclamation of beauty — a goal shared by many disability rights campaigners. Made at a time when escalating cases of acid violence in London were making headlines around the world, Polak’s film prompts comparisons with Katie Piper’s Beautiful (2011) and other survivor memoirs. Privileging imperfection over repair and fragility over strength, it challenges existing portrayals of disfigurement and, in the process, offers a more radical understanding of beauty and authenticity.

Resumen
AbstractThis article examines images of revolution in Chinese artworks within a global context. It argues that the theme of revolution in Chinese art can be divided into three movements: (1) Art of Scars, (2) New Wave ’85, from which political pop art and cynical realism took their roots, and (3) the modern twenty-first century trend of Mao and the Cultural Revolution. An analysis of political pop art identified a synthesis of academic and iconographic features and Western philosophical concepts, which can be found in the semiotic elements of the painting Maozedong: AO. Its cynical realism is similar to the satire of the American painter in his Daughters of Revolution. Both artworks depict images of the "citizen" in an era of historical change. This analysis of the painting in the style of Mao and the Cultural Revolution offers a rethinking of traditional Chinese canons as a response to the Western religious traditions influenced by a multicultural environment. The data can be used as an additional source to examine symbolism and semiotics in the artistic language of Chinese artists representing the culture of revolution.

Resumen
Botulinum toxin (BoNT) is a neurotoxin produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. Among seven different isoforms, only BoNT-A and BoNT-B are commercially used. Currently, botulinum toxin has been indicated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in several disorders, among others: chronic migraine, hyperhidrosis, urinary incontinence from detrusor overactivity, or cosmetics. However, there are numerous promising reports based on off-label BTX usage, indicating its potential effectiveness in other diseases, which remains unknown to many. Among them, dermatological conditions, such as rosacea, annal fissure, Raynaud phenomenon, hypertrophic scars and keloids, and also hidradenitis suppurativa, are currently being investigated. This article aims to provide a comprehensive update on the off-label use of botulinum toxin in dermatology, based on an analysis and summary of the published literature.

Resumen
The paper analyses the crime of bodily harm provided by art. 194 par. (1) let. c) Criminal Code, consisting of battery or other acts of violence which caused a serious and permanent aesthetic injury. Although this crime has always existed in the Romanian law, this immediate consequence previously being called disfigurement, its renaming in the Criminal Code which entered into force in 2014 gave rise to new discussions, including those on the compatibility of the regulation with the rule of law and the principle of equality before the law. After analysing these aspects, the article reviews the case law of national courts, by explaining the objective and subjective criteria that outline the solution of classifying a deed as the crime of bodily harm. Subsequently, some particular hypotheses are analysed, such as the loss of teeth, the loss of an eye, the existence of scars or the tattooing of the victim, which highlight the existing variable jurisprudence in this matter.

Resumen
With ongoing war in the Donbas, war narratives and war images saturate public media in Ukraine, the discourse contaminated by ideological remnants of the Soviet World War II cult and by fake news. Art that deals with war wounds can subvert the familiar visual language of war propaganda, where the suffering of victims is a mere pretext for touting the inevitable triumph of the heroes. Currently in Ukraine, the most prolific art in this regard is produced by women-artists who address the trauma of war through painting and installations that offer highly personalized accounts. Often touching upon extreme circumstances, their art is about tolerance, both in terms of endurance and of the mutual understanding necessary for cohabitation. Alevtyna (Alevtina) Kakhidze’s ongoing performance creates an opportunity to comprehend the war in the Donbas from multiple perspectives, including that of a gardener. She associates the tending of plants with her mother who died on occupied territory, refusing to leave her garden. Mariia (Maria) Kulikovs'ka’s sculptures serve as shooting targets for separatists in the occupied centre of contemporary art in Donetsk. Vlada Ralko’s paintings of tortured bodies become a metaphor for scars garnered by a war that remains close to home. Paintings and sculptures by Maryna Skuharieva (Skugareva) and Anna Zviahintseva (Zvyagintseva) address the ruin of representation inflicted by war, and the conceptual performance by Liia (Lia) Dostlieva and Andrii Dostliev contemplates the healing process of war wounds. Neither making spectacle from the “pain of others” nor deeming it unrepresentable, this art seeks emphatic alternatives to traditional war narratives.

Resumen
The article analyzes the influence of the Itinerants' creative ideas on Chinese realistic painting, the development of which is inseparable from the study of the Itinerants. The article examines how the painting technique and ideology of the Association of Itinerant Art Exhibitions founded in the late 19th century are relevant to many 20th-century Chinese artists. The authors identify the ideological principles of the Itinerant movement that have influenced different generations of Chinese artists (rejection of the “art for art's sake” principle, emphasis on national characteristics of painting, responsibility for reflecting the life of people in the country, advocating the spirit of critical realism as the only true way to reflect life in art) and prove that without Russian Itinerants there would be no Chinese realism in painting and modern Chinese realistic painting. The article identifies and characterizes three stages of adopting the Itinerant creative ideas in China: the period of the Republic of China (acquaintance of the Chinese public with the Itinerants' paintings and understanding the Itinerant ideology at the time of the “Movement for New Culture”), the beginning of the PRC foundation (the period of comprehensive study of realist painting, training of talented Chinese artists in art educational institutions of the USSR as part of the cultural exchange and mastering the principles of Soviet realist art) and the first decade after the Cultural Revolution (a critical “painting of scars” reflecting the experiences and fates of people during the Cultural Revolution). The authors conclude that the study of the Itinerants' creative ideas from the point of view of cultural studies in the context of the Chinese realist art school development is important for understanding the Russian- Chinese cultural dialogue.

Resumen
Background: The reasons or the motivations that compel people to get a tattoo or a body piercing (BP) are plentiful and personal. Patients with chronic cutaneous or systemic conditions may be interested in getting tattooed or pierced. Objective: To determine the frequency of body art practices in hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) and to evaluate the possible impact of HS in the decision-making process. Methods: An anonymous specific paper-based questionnaire was prospectively offered to patients (≥18 years) consecutively managed for HS from September 2016 to March 2017 in a French specialized center. Results: In total, 209 patients participated in the study, of whom 77 (37%) and 50 (24%) had tattoos and BP, respectively. These proportions were higher than those reported in the French population. HS prevented the decision to get a BP or a tattoo in 2 and 5%, respectively (fear of infection or healing difficulties). Fifteen patients (7%) got tattooed to hide a surgical HS scar (n = 5, 2%), to regain control over the pain or their bodies (n = 9, 4%), or to turn others’ eyes away from HS lesions or scars (n = 1, 0.5%). HS severity influenced a proportion of patients who intended to get a new tattoo. Conclusion: HS is associated with a significant increase in body art practices.

Resumen
Due to the increased prevalence of obesity in the last decades, bariatric surgery has been on the rise in recent years. Bariatric surgery is a compelling option for weight loss in obese patients with severe obesity-related comorbidities or for whom lifestyle modifications have proven ineffective. Redundant skin following significant weight loss is a common occurrence affecting up to 96% of patients who undergo bariatric surgery, negatively impacting physical and psychosocial health and detracting from activities of daily living. Statistics of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons show that 46,577 body contouring procedures were performed after massive weight loss in the USA in a 2020 report. Abdominoplasty, a well-established cosmetic surgery procedure for improving body contour, is performed by removing excess skin and fat from the abdominal wall and thereby restoring musculofascial integrity and skin elasticity, resulting in a more ideal body shape and increasing quality of life. Although abdominoplasty is a safe procedure, it has been associated with a higher complication rate compared with other body-contouring procedures. Technologic advances over the past decade have been developed as non-invasive alternatives or adjunctive tools to surgery to enhance cosmetic results and minimize complications. New energy-based technologies may supplant invasive surgery for mild to moderate skin laxity and/or diminish the extent of surgery and resulting scars. Plastic surgeons play a significant role in improving the quality of life of patients who suffer from obesity and underwent bariatric surgery. We are deeply convinced, however, that the advancement of knowledge and research in this field will determine the introduction of new technologies and custom-made techniques. This advancement will reduce the complication rate with a rapid reintegration of the patient into the world of work and resumption of daily activities.

Resumen
Aging affects left and right half face differently owing to numerous factors such as sleeping habits, exposure to sun light, and weaker face muscles of one side of face. In computer vision, age of a given face image is estimated using features that are correlated with age, such as moles, scars, and wrinkles. In this study we report the asymmetric aging of the left and right sides of face images and its impact on accurate age estimation. Left symmetric faces were perceived as younger while right symmetric faces were perceived as older when presented to the state-of-the-art age estimator. These findings show that facial aging is an asymmetric process which plays role in accurate facial age estimation. Experimental results on two large datasets verify the significance of using asymmetric right face image to estimate the age of a query face image more accurately compared to the corresponding original or left asymmetric face image.

Resumen
The article “Handing on – Bodily Experiences Across Time” investigates how body and time are significant elements in the sculptural practices of the Danish artist Kirsten Justesen (b. 1943). The article presents a methodical approach to Justesen through the embroidered body-map made by the Danish artist Gudrun Hasle (b. 1979). The body-map is a “handover” of Justesen’s body; scars, marks of life and the body as a tool in works of body-art. It sets a different focus than that of a linear and chronological structured storytelling: it becomes sensual and bodily in an aesthetic processing of political and feminist experiences. The article finds its theoretical grounds in a concept of feminism’s timing and queer temporalities, and articulates how knowledge production and the raising of a feminist consciousness can be handed over through a bodily approach. Questioning the thinking of “feminism” in waves and generations, the article discusses how both artists relate and articulate a storytelling about women’s and art history, situated from the common grounds of being “woman”, “artist” and “pregnant”, with all the privileges and challenges that Justesen and Hasle each have had. The main focus of the article lies in an analysis of Justesen’s work CIRCUMSTANCES (1969-) and how it can be mapped out; how time and body in space can be connected over and across time as a quality within CIRCUMSTANCES, as well as an issue which continually challenges the concept of the “work of art” as an closed entity. Justesen’s use of the body as a tool and sculptural material linked to the political circumstances of the 1970’s paved the way for a different viewpoint and representation of the female body. As Hasle builds on these bodily and gendered experiences in her own practice as an artist and in her exhibition THOSE BEFORE ME, she sets new grounds for the art historical narratives to be told from.

Resumen
Reconstructing the face from the skull is important not only for forensic identification but also as a tool that can provide insight into the appearance of individuals from past populations. It requires a multidisciplinary approach that combines anthropological knowledge, advanced imaging methods, and artistic skills. In the present study, we demonstrate this process on the skull of an early medieval warrior from Croatia. The skeletal remains were prepared and scanned using multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) and examined using standard anthropological and radiological methods. The analysis revealed that the remains belonged to a 35–45-year-old male individual who had suffered severe cranial trauma, probably causing his death. From MSCT images, we reconstructed a three-dimensional (3D) model of the skull, on which we digitally positioned cylinders demarking the soft tissue thickness and created the face with a realistic texture. A 3D model of the face was then optimized, printed, and used to produce a clay model. Sculpturing techniques added skin textures and facial features with scars and trauma manifestations. Finally, after constructing a plaster model, the model was painted and refined by adding fine details like eyes and hair, and it was prepared for presentation in the form of a sculpture.

Resumen
This article maps out our critical engagement with the Third Theatre community pre- and post-COVID-19, with a focus on both performer training and the concrete material ways in which group theatres connected to this small tradition have responded to the challenges of the global pandemic. To illustrate our arguments, we draw on the Japanese craft of kintsugi—the transformative repair of ceramics—as a dispositif, employed to investigate the ways in which theatrical practice can comprise ‘an art of precious scars’, to paraphrase Stephano Carnazzi. This model allows for breaking with form and, importantly, re-modelling energy, which conversely becomes the most important aspect of the theatre laboratory, encompassing the relationships between body and form, individual and group, and artist and the wider society, importantly allowing for the creation of something that is more unique and authentic. Theatrical practice can thus be a clinch (bound like in a mother’s embrace) or jolted through disruption (like the cracks of kintsugi). Importantly, this disruption and its resolution takes place on both a level of form (as in the theatrical exercise) and on a broader, socio-political and economic plain. The article importantly focuses on both phenomena, and in so doing reflects on both the legacy and futurity of the transnational Third Theatre community.

Resumen
Placenta previa is associated with an increased risk of premature birth, fetal death during intrauterine development, and asphyxia in neonates. Vaginal bleeding that is not unpleasant is one of the telltale signs of placenta previa. It is estimated that 5.2% of pregnancies would be affected by the common obstetric condition known as placenta previa. Sometimes there are no symptoms associated with placenta previa. During the second half of pregnancy, the primary symptom is vaginal bleeding that is brilliant red and completely painless. Moreover, this syndrome can cause excessive bleeding prior to or throughout the labor process. The uterus should have some scars on it as a result of a surgery or procedure that was performed in the past. a previous pregnancy in which you experienced placenta previa is considered to be a risk factor. Having a previous cesarean section (CS), having an abortion, being older than 35 years old, having more than one child, and using assisted reproductive technologies (ART) such in vitro fertilization are all variables that can increase the likelihood of developing placenta previa (IVF). It appears that the risk of placenta previa increases with both the mother's age and the number of previous pregnancies. Despite the fact that research has shown that the association is not consistent at all.

Resumen
Japan is the only country that has been attacked by nuclear weapons, having been hit twice – at Hiroshima and Nagasaki – in the 1945 bombing during World War II. 75 years later, the two cities appear as successful as any city unaffected by bombing as reconstruction and developments have erased the scars left by these devastating events. The remaining human A-bomb survivors are ageing, and numbers decline year by year, leaving fewer living reminders of the misery of nuclear weapons. However, scattered throughout the two cities, stark living survivors of the two blasts rise, each marked by the bombs. The A-bombed trees, which represent a variety of species, provide a living reminder of the catastrophic events as their trunks lean towards Ground Zero. Professor Emeritus Masakazu Suzuki, from the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Tsukuba, notes that while many visitors and denizens of the two cities go about their days unaware of the existence of these trees, there are 160 trees in Hiroshima and approximately 30 in Nagasaki within a three-kilometre radius of Ground Zero. Resumen
Skin cancer is a common and possibly deadly disease that requires immediate and efficient treatment. Conventional surgical methods, although successful, frequently lead to the formation of scars and extended periods of recuperation. In recent years, there have been significant developments in minimally invasive treatments for treating skin cancer. These techniques provide patients with alternative options that result in better cosmetic outcomes and shorter recovery periods. This article is a comprehensive summary of state-of-the-art advancements in minimally invasive procedures, including as laser therapy, cryotherapy, electrochemotherapy, and radiofrequency ablation. We analyze the benefits of these procedures, including minimized scarring, improved cosmetic outcomes, and faster healing periods, while also examining the difficulties and factors involved in their application. We showcase the concrete advantages that patients receive when they undergo minimally invasive therapy for skin cancer, using case studies and success stories as evidence. In addition, we examine potential future paths in research and development, anticipating a favorable outlook for the ongoing use of minimally invasive methods in the treatment of skin cancer. The global prevalence of skin cancer is a substantial health issue, leading to continuous progress in treatment strategies aimed at enhancing patient results. Conventional surgical techniques, however efficient, can lead to conspicuous scarring and extended recuperation periods. Recent advancements in minimally invasive procedures have significantly transformed the treatment of skin cancer, providing patients with alternative options that yield better esthetic results and shorter recovery periods. This article offers a comprehensive analysis of state-of-the-art advancements in minimally invasive procedures, encompassing laser therapy, cryotherapy, electrochemotherapy, and radiofrequency ablation. Resumen
Abstract Introduction Burn camps have served burn-injured youth in the U.S. for over 35 years. Camp is a rehabilitation program that has been recognized as an important part of young survivors’ recovery. The 2020 global pandemic made an in-person camp impossible, so volunteers rallied to provide a virtual experience. Registered campers received a “Camp in a Box” filled with activities, art supplies, a camp tee-shirt, and snacks to enjoy at Virtual Burn Camp (VBC). Participants connected with campers and counselors online. This study sought to determine how youth viewed VBC compared to in-person camp, how the pandemic was affecting their emotional status and whether VBC helped them. Methods The study asked participants to rate survey items regarding levels of comfort, connection, and support at VBC vs. in-person camp on a 4-point scale from 1. NO! 2. no 3. yes 4. YES! Multiple choice questions such as My favorite thing about virtual camp, and “Things I missed most about regular burn camp” - choose 2. General stress & anxiety levels related to Covid-19 were assessed, as well as if VBC helped to reduce their anxiety/stress levels. Results Pediatric burn survivors (n=77) participating in 2 virtual camps, demographic’s included mean age 13.8 years, male (n=39%), female (n=61%), visible scars (74%) vs. (10%) hidden scars with the majority representing racial/ethnic minorities (65%) vs. white (35%). Campers reported feeling more connected at in-person camp (84%) vs. VBC (38%). Feeling supported was higher at regular burn camp (84%), but the majority (76%) also claimed feeling supported at VBC. Camper’s favorite things about VBC were Camp in a Box (66%), Being Part of the Burn Community (51%), and Seeing Counselors (47%). Things missed most about regular burn camp were seeing Friends (83%) and Counselors (61%). Respondents reported high Covid-19 related stress/anxiety levels (66%) and (88%) said that VBC reduced their anxiety/stress. Top benefits included feeling Happy (48%) and Thankful (32%). Conclusions Pediatric burn survivors place a high value on their burn community involvement. Though not the preferred camp method, the VBC earned high marks for camper’s improved emotional status and for reducing their Covid-19 stress and anxiety levels. The program succeeded in helping Virtual Campers feel supported and provided an important venue for connecting them with their burn-injured peers and camp counselors.

Resumen
The objective: Study ways to reduce the frequency of cesarean section (CS) in a typical urban maternity hospital. Patients and methods. In the course of the study, the history of the delivery of women of a typical urban maternity home was studied and analyzed, the birth of which was completed by holding a COP for the period from 2001 to 2014. Results. According to the analysis, the number of births has steadily increased every year: from 2.082 in 2001 to 4.655 in 2014. However, during a careful study of the structure of labor during the study period, a wave-like increase in the percentage of CS was noted from 17% in 2001 to 21.25% in 2008, followed by a positive trend of its decline - to 17.8% in 2014. In the conditions of the study, the structure of the most common indications from the mother and the child for conducting operations of the COP was established. The leading place among the testimony from the mother was the scar on the uterus. This indicator increased from 6.6% in 2001 to 36.3% in 2014, that is, almost 5 times. So, in modern obstetrics, it remains an important problem to find ways to reduce the number of scars on the uterus as the main indication for CS operation. Conclusion. 1. The delivery of women with a vaginal scars on the uterus is a reserve for reducing the percentage of Caesarean section (CS), reducing blood loss, more physiological delivery, rapid post-natal adaptation of newborns, and restoring the woman in labor after the delivery. 2. Women with a pathological preliminar period constitute a high-risk group for the development of abnormalities of labor. Therefore, there is a need to create and implement algorithms for managing women with a pathological preliminar period. 3. In the presence of polyhydramnios or lack of water it is necessary to carry out careful monitoring of women in labor, to react promptly and immediately to changes in the nature of labor. 4. To reduce the number of abnormalities of labor, it is necessary to develop new criteria for the selection of candidates for rhodostimulation and the introduction of integrated approaches to assessing the «maturity» of the cervix. 5. The reserve for reducing the frequency of CS after ART is, of course, a group of patients whose cause of infertility is the male factor and the somatic anamnesis is not burdened and pregnancy is characterized by a favorable course, as well as patients younger than 30 with tubal peritoneal infertility in the history of Uncomplicated pregnancy. Key words: c-section, scar on the uterus, abnormal labor, assisted reproductive technologies.

Resumen
Sir, In one of his precious masterpieces, Portuguese novelist José Saramago narrates in detail the lives of the rice weeders who used to work in this land and, after a day of work, soak their bare feet in a bath with hot water, salt, mallow, and chamomile in order to restore their ankles, swollen and inflated for the alga native to these particular paddy fields, Laminaria ochroleuca (Bachelot de la Pylaie), extremely rich in fucose and alginates, provoking an accelerated and paroxistic synthesis of elastin, fibronectin, and collagen. This brown alga may be retrieved from the waters of France, Spain, Scotland, and the Shetland Islands, yet even in the Azores Islands and Morocco (Alboran Sea) [1–4]. The authors of this paper selected a special Laminaria from the Strait of Messina (Nereocystis luetkeana), a heterokont that is able to grow half a meter per day reaching the surprising and amazing height of 260 ft.). The legend has it that shell collectors, chiefly young girls, day after day, saw their legs together to create the tail of a siren, a cartilaginous appendage rich in collagen and elastin becoming scaly and squamous owing to the seawater. The authors created a dermocosmetic emulsion with high concentrations of acetolyte from Laminaria ochroleuca (12%) and other nourishing active ingredients (obviously, the chief components were petrolatum and lanolin, as per the pharmaceutical art of preparing the cold cream of Galenus). Hence, this golden alga is able to support the skin by providing antioxidants to fight free radicals, supporting the health of collagen and elastin, which helps the skin retain elasticity and radiance, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and helping to moisturize the skin while boosting its barrier. Some researchers [5] claimed that this alga could be useful to build a skin equivalent, as fucoidan significantly stimulates the proliferation of CCD-25Sk human fibroblasts. Also, western blot analysis demonstrates that fucoidan markedly increases the expression of cyclin D1 and decreases the expression of p27. Fucoidan was practically used to reconstruct SE. Immunohistochemical staining reveals that the addition of fucoidan to dermal equivalents increases the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and p63. In addition, the expression of a6-integrin is significantly increased by fucoidan, whereas the expression of b1-integrin, type 1 collagen, elastin, and fibronectin does not markedly change. In the light of the above, the authors may assert that fucoidan shows positive effects on epidermal reconstruction and is, therefore, beneficial in the reconstruction of all types of skin damage. The authors recruited a panel of eight people: 2 veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan (a-b) presenting old war wounds with no chance to cure these after years of treatments and a myriad of surgical operations; 2 elders (one male and one female, 87 and 89 yrs. old, respectively, c-d) presenting severe bedsores; 2 older ladies (e-f) who, in the past, underwent unsuccessful aesthetical operations, presenting puckers, seams, furrows and deep wrinkles; 2 girls (two ex-prostitutes, one black and one white, g-h) who were scarred with a razor by their enemies.

Resumen
Background and context: About 10 years ago in Ghana, you couldn´t find a woman to say I had breast cancer, went through the treatment and I am still alive and a survivor now. Today Breast Care International (BCI) has breast cancer (bc) survivors who not only share their stories but show their postmastectomy scars. Aim: To create a community of bc survivors reintegrating into society emotionally, physically, psychologically healed/content and by so doing demystify bc in Ghana. PALSA has over 800 survivors. Strategy/Tactics: 2 years after completion of active treatment, our patients are absorbed into PALSA where they continue to receive counseling and postcancer reviews. Some PALSA members were trained in 2013 by Carries´ Touch from California, USA on how to share their stories, counsel and navigate newly diagnosed bc patients. Program/Policy process: Survivorship is complex. Our survivors need to be filled and content to genuinely impact their audience when they share their stories and navigate bc patients. a) Survivors in our HOPE (Helping Others through Personal Experience) program counsel and walk the treatment journey with newly diagnosed patients. b) Showcasing survivorship with > 300 survivors parade during BCI Ghana walks for the cure. c) Survivors join all BCI outreach programs to share their stories, with postmastectomy survivors boldly showing their external prosthesis and framed photos of their scars. d) 2017 Dress Campaign - 5 bc survivors with pink tailor made clothes shared their stories through art. This year 20 survivors will participate thanks to donation in kind from GTP. e) September 30th 2017, survivors´ children and their mothers danced at the African Regent Hotel and the arrival hall of Kotoka International Airport to usher in the pink month. f) For the first time Kotoka International Airport was decorated in pink for the month of October to celebrate breast cancer awareness. Outcomes: Before the HOPE project PLH had 70% defaulting treatment especially mastectomy, compared with 10% default rate now. More women are ready and eager to be screened because they see and hear women survive bc and mastectomy for years. Flash mobs and the dress campaign are new and fun ways to take breast cancer awareness to the youth. What was learned: Building a strong survivorship program is an important part of life after bc. Not only do we maximize impact in advocacy and awareness creation with survivors, our survivors care/support each other and find a place to heal and integrate in society (either reintegrating or find something new like being used at PLH in HOPE, decorating airports for the pink month). Our survivors are ready and eager to share their stories and help change bc in Ghana in their own unique ways. We just need to create all the different ways they can do this and save as many lives as possible.

Resumen
Background: The objective of the study was to evaluate the outcome of the ellipse technique in 10 Egyptian patients in contrast with state-of-the-art practice cited in the medical literature. Methods: A prospective comparative study was carried out on 10 consecutive patients with grade III (Simon’s classification) gynecomastia presenting to the outpatient clinic at Menoufia university hospital, Menoufia, Egypt during the period during from June 2015 to march 2018. History taking, local examination, radiological examination and laboratories investigation were done. Results: Mean age of patients was 29.3 years. The BMI of the patients ranged from 32.3 kg/m2 to 37 kg/m2 with a mean BMI of 34.82 kg/m2. All patients showed good wound healing when dressings were removed at the 10-day interval. The scars showed maturation at around 10 to 12 months. None of the patients had a major complication such as infection, hematoma, seroma, or nipple-areola complex necrosis. There were no early postoperative complications apart from moderate bruising in 3 patients. Late complications included slowly resolving hypoesthesia in two patients. This was a transient complication that resolved completely. No patient required revision surgery. Conclusions: The technique allows precise control of the final shape and contour of the corrected chest wall with proper positioning of the nipple-areola complex without a residual deformity. It has been shown to yield consistent and reproducible results in this subset of patients in an easy, quick and safe manner. The technique is also easily learned and taught. The resultant scarring is positioned along the lines of least skin tension and is quite inconspicuous and well hidden in patients with excess chest wall hair.

Resumen
Through the ages, breasts have played multiple roles, ranging from a source of nourishment to a source of pleasure and a symbol of femininity. The loss of these not only poses challenges of a physical nature but also prominent psychological disturbances, especially when associated with the context of breast cancer. In the current period, it is observed that an estimated contingent of 2.3 million individuals faced this arduous battle in the year 2020 (according to data from INCA - Instituto Nacional de Câncer), a struggle that left a myriad of physical scars and psychological traumas in its wake. Among the painful sequels, the deprivation of the areola stands out, whose reconstruction, unlike the breasts themselves, presents a notably more complex challenge. Regardless of the gender of the affected person and the circumstances that led to the deprivation of that essential part of their integrity, it is imperative that all those who experience such misfortune receive unconditional support. It was in this spirit of solidarity that a meticulously crafted silicone prosthesis was conceived, with the purpose of reproducing the lost areola(s) for those affected by this painful situation. This piece is remarkable in its total customization, adapting precisely to a wide range of models. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that its application does not require surgical procedures, thus enabling the restoration of self-confidence and the sparkle in the eyes of those who have already suffered too much. It is pertinent to emphasize that this innovative endeavor received valuable support from the facilities of the FABLAB "Espaço Maker" of Colégio Puríssimo, equipped with devices such as scanners and 3D printers. With the guidance provided by specialized literature in the areas of reverse engineering, human anatomy, psychoanalysis, art history, and humanity, a deep knowledge was obtained that constituted secure foundations for the practices adopted in this context.

Resumen
Berm scarps are erosional features characteristic of all coastal accumulation forms. Their profiles range from steep to overhanging (ψ>90) and evolve through slope adjustment and burial by swash and aeolian accretion. Examples from the mixed siliciclastic-bioclastic beaches of the non-tidal Black Sea coast of Ukraine and the microtidal oolitic-bioclastic carbonate islands of the Bahama Archipelago demonstrate a wide range of scarp morphologies. Truncations of berm strata and density lag at the scarp base accentuate their recognition in the field and in geophysical (georadar) records. Although ephemeral as surface features, berm scarps may act as nucleation sites for aeolian aggradation, thereby generating continuous coast-parallel dune ridges. Accumulation of organic debris promotes colonization of incipient foredunes by plants and provides chronological control of erosional events. Therefore, paleo-berm scarps serve as important geological indicators of past storm activity and aid in constraining sea-level position.

Resumen
Abstract Experimental plots were established approximately 10 miles east of Hazelton, ID. The soil type was Portneuf silt loam and the plots were furrow irrigated. Eight treatments and an untreated check were replicated 4 times in a RCB design. Individual plots were 6 rows (22 inch row spacing) by 30 ft. Alleys were cut between plots to give 25 ft of row per plot. On 18 Apr all plots were planted at which time sidedress applications of Temik and band applications of Temik, Counter, and Aztec were made. Temik was placed 2 inches to the water side of the furrow and 2-3 inch deep for the sidedress applications (SAP). Aztec, Counter and the other Temik application were applied as a 4 inch band over the row (i.e., behind press wheel) and chain incorporated (BAP). On 25 May, post-emergence band applications (BPE) of Temik, Counter and Lorsban were made. Temik and Counter were applied as a 4 inch band (BPE) over the row and chain incorporated. Lorsban was applied as a 3-4 inch banded spray (early fly emergence, EF) using a CO2-pressurized backpack sprayer (20 gpa at 30 psi). On 12 Jun, a Lorsban treatment was made (peak fly emergence, PF) using a CO2 pressurized backpack sprayer as previously described. On 1 Aug after most larval feeding had ended, five adjacent beets were dug from the middle of rows two and five to give 10 beets per plot for rating root maggot damage. Weights of the 10 beet samples were also taken at this time. The beets were washed and rated for damage using 2 rating schemes: The five point system was 0 = no scars; 1 = \-b small scars of pinhead size; 2 = 5-10 small scars to 3 large scars; 3 = more than 3 large scars; 4 = one-half to three-quarters root area blackened by scars; 5 = more than three-quarters of root area damaged, dying beet. The seven point system was 0 = no damage; 1 = l-4 small scars of pinhead size; 2 = 5-10 small scars, or up to 3 larger scars; 3 = more than 3 large scars; 4 = 4 large scars to one-quarter root surface covered with scars; 5 = one-quarter to one-half root surface covered with scars; 6 = one-half to three-quarter root area blackened by scars; 7 = more than three-quarter root surface blackened, dying beet. On 14 Sep sugar beets in rows 3 and 4 (middle 2 rows) in all treatment plots except the Aztec treatment, were machine lifted, hand topped and untared weights were taken for yield estimates. All data were analyzed using ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls.

Taking inspiration from the ethico-onto-epistemological implications of new materialisms, this poem is a modest and partial attempt at experimenting with new ways of bringing my sporting past-present-future together to reimagine feminist politics, vulnerabilities, and the implications of sporting policies that continue to reinforce gender binaries, harming, and excluding so many. This piece of writing was triggered—in a visceral and unexpected way—by a surge of transphobic discourse in Aotearoa New Zealand society in 2021, with groups of athletes, pseudo-feminists, doctors, politicians, and the public protesting transgender women’s rights to participate in sport at elite and community levels.

Resumen
Recent advances in data processing have stimulated the demand for learning graphs of very large scales. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), being an emerging and powerful approach in solving graph learning tasks, are known to be difficult to scale up. Most scalable models apply node-based techniques in simplifying the expensive graph message-passing propagation procedure of GNN. However, we find such acceleration insufficient when applied to million- or even billion-scale graphs. In this work, we propose SCARA, a scalable GNN with feature-oriented optimization for graph computation. SCARA efficiently computes graph embedding from node features, and further selects and reuses feature computation results to reduce overhead. Theoretical analysis indicates that our model achieves sub-linear time complexity with a guaranteed precision in propagation process as well as GNN training and inference. We conduct extensive experiments on various datasets to evaluate the efficacy and efficiency of SCARA. Performance comparison with baselines shows that SCARA can reach up to 100x graph propagation acceleration than current state-of-the-art methods with fast convergence and comparable accuracy. Most notably, it is efficient to process precomputation on the largest available billion-scale GNN dataset Papers100M (111M nodes, 1.6B edges) in 100 seconds.

Resumen
Abstract Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is an acquired disorder characterized by intravascular hemolysis and venous thrombosis. Thrombosis is the most feared complication in PNH and is reported to occur in >40% of patients. Proposed mechanisms of thrombosis include depletion of the coagulation regulator nitric oxide (NO) by intravascular hemolysis and increased sensitivity of PNH platelets to activation. The occurrence of subclinical thrombosis in PNH patients has not been previously studied using modern imaging techniques. In order to evaluate for subclincal thrombosis we evaluated PNH patients with a comprehensive state-of-the-art MRI protocol (which included the use of both blood pool and conventional Gadolinium based contrast agents) for the detection of subclinical thromboses and its sequelae. The detailed protocol consisted of: lung perfusion and pulmonary MRA, cardiac MR - including quantitative studies of both ventricles, right heart flow dynamics and delayed enhancement for the detection of left ventricular damage, and abdominal MR for the assessment of hepatic and portal venous systems and kidneys. 10 PNH patients (median age 31.5 yrs) with large PNH clones but without previous clinical evidence of venous or arterial thrombosis underwent imaging. Five (50%) of the patients were on primary anticoagulant prophylaxis with warfarin. There was evidence of significant renal hemosiderosis, which was distributed throughout the cortices, in 8/10 patients. Two patients had small myocardial scars suggestive of previous unsuspected ischemic damage. Six patients had sub-segmental perfusion defects mainly distributed in the peripheries of the lung fields indicative of previous small pulmonary emboli. No such subclinical thromboses would be anticipated in an age-matched control population. 8 patients had mildly reduced right ventricular ejection fractions (mean 42.2±1.8%; normal range 48–63%). The plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) level was high in all 10 patients (median 29.4pmol/l; range 18.7–373.90; normal subjects 4.89±1.00pmol/l). BNP has been shown to increase in proportion to right ventricular dysfunction in pulmonary hypertenstion. No intraabdominal defects were identified with the current protocol. In summary, we identified abnormalities suggestive of previous subclinical thromboses in 6 of 10 hemolytic PNH patients by high-resolution MR imaging, including in patients on primary prophylaxis with warfarin. Effective prevention of thrombosis is an important aspect of the therapy in PNH.

Resumen
Objective: To monitor the outcome of surgical delivery of pregnant women with two or more uterine scars aft er Cesarean section.Materials and Methods: A retrospective study was performed based on the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health. The analysis of birth histories and histories of newborns in pregnant women who delivered by Caesarean section with two or more scars on the uterus within 2020 was carried out. Inclusion criteria: single pregnancy of 22 weeks or more, the presence of two or more scars aft er Cesarean section. Exclusion criteria: pregnancy less than 22 weeks, one scar on the uterus, and a scar on the uterus aft er other operations. Pregnant women with multiple pregnancies. Results: The severity of the adhesive process in the abdominal cavity was noted only in patients with three or more uterine scars. An increase in the duration of the Cesarean section operation of more than 60 minutes was observed in the group with three uterine scars and more (40%). Low risk of injuries to neighboring organs, intestines, ureters, and bladder was observed in groups of patients with both two and three uterine scars. More oft en, intraoperative massive blood loss was noted in the group with three scars on the uterus and more (16.67%). Moderate and severe asphyxia in newborns was registered in the group with three or more uterine scars (16.65%).Conclusion: Th e presence of one and/or two scars on the uterus aft er Cesarean section allowed the authors to classify these pregnant women as a low-risk group. The presence of three or more scars on the uterus aft er Cesarean section classifi ed these pregnant women as a high-risk group.

Resumen
Parasites commonly manipulate host behaviour, and among the most dramatic examples are diverse fungi that cause insects to die attached to leaves. This death-grip behaviour functions to place insects in an ideal location for spore dispersal from a dead body following host death. Fossil leaves record many aspects of insect behaviour (feeding, galls, leaf mining) but to date there are no known examples of behavioural manipulation. Here, we document, to our knowledge, the first example of the stereotypical death grip from 48 Ma leaves of Messel, Germany, indicating the antiquity of this behaviour. As well as probably being the first example of behavioural manipulation in the fossil record, these data support a biogeographical parallelism between mid Eocene northern Europe and recent southeast Asia.

Resumen
In this work, we develop a new approach to generative density estimation for exchangeable, non-i.i.d. data. The proposed framework, FlowScan, combines invertible flow transformations with a sorted scan to flexibly model the data while preserving exchangeability. Unlike most existing methods, FlowScan exploits the intradependencies within sets to learn both global and local structure. FlowScan represents the first approach that is able to apply sequential methods to exchangeable density estimation without resorting to averaging over all possible permutations. We achieve new state-of-the-art performance on point cloud and image set modeling.
