Resumen
The following article aims to show complete reception of the interwar works of Adolf Rudnicki. The author of the sketch, starting from the repeated by literary scholars argument, that Rudnicki has been a favorite of reviewers since his debut, presents comments about subsequent books of the author, from the Polish press of the thirties. There emerges a completely different image of critics’ relation to Rudnicki’s work, than the one, which was created by the literary scholars so far. The position that the author occupied in the literary world appears to be much less privileged than it has been said so far.

Resumen
In a celebrated paper published in 1975, Rudnicki and Rice (RR) analyzed the conditions for strain localization in pressure-sensitive dilatant materials. This paper corrects certain results in their work that are relevant in exceptional cases. RR found that the normal to the plane of localization was generally orthogonal to the direction of the intermediate principal stress; however, when a certain inequality was satisfied, it was orthogonal to the direction of the minimum principal stress. In contrast, it is shown here that the normal to the plane of localization is always orthogonal to the direction of the intermediate principal stress; but there is a special case where it is parallel to the direction of either the maximum or the minimum principal stress, and in this case the expression of the critical hardening modulus at localization differs from that given by RR.

Resumen
The paper discusses a new find of a Krakow type Celtic stater. The coin was discovered accidentally in the Opatów area (Opatów County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship). The specimen represents variant II: C/4 according to Marcin Rudnicki, although the weakly preserved motifs visible on the obverse show some differences compared to the reference variant. The reverse bears traces of die repair. A high content of silver indicates a relatively late chronological position of the Opatów find. The discussed coin is the twentieth known stater of the Krakow type.

Resumen
Summary In this paper we account for the formalization of the seven bridges of Königsberg puzzle. The problem originally posed and solved by Euler in 1735 is historically notable for having laid the foundations of graph theory, cf. [7]. Our formalization utilizes a simple set-theoretical graph representation with four distinct sets for the graph’s vertices and another seven sets that represent the edges (bridges). The work appends the article by Nakamura and Rudnicki [10] by introducing the classic example of a graph that does not contain an Eulerian path. This theorem is item #54 from the “Formalizing 100 Theorems” list maintained by Freek Wiedijk at http://www.cs.ru.nl/F.Wiedijk/100/.

We derive an entropic uncertainty relation for generalized positive-operator-valued measure (POVM) measurements via a direct-sum majorization relation using Schur concavity of entropic quantities in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. Our approach provides a significant improvement of the uncertainty bound compared with previous majorization-based approaches (Friendland, S.; Gheorghiu, V.; Gour, G. Phys. Rev. Lett. 2013, 111, 230401; Rastegin, A.E.; Życzkowski, K. J. Phys. A, 2016, 49, 355301), particularly by extending the direct-sum majorization relation first introduced in (Rudnicki, Ł.; Puchała, Z.; Życzkowski, K. Phys. Rev. A 2014, 89, 052115). We illustrate the usefulness of our uncertainty relations by considering a pair of qubit observables in a two-dimensional system and randomly chosen unsharp observables in a three-dimensional system. We also demonstrate that our bound tends to be stronger than the generalized Maassen–Uffink bound with an increase in the unsharpness effect. Furthermore, we extend our approach to the case of multiple POVM measurements, thus making it possible to establish entropic uncertainty relations involving more than two observables.

Resumen
We analyze a class of probability distributions for family sizes in a duplication, loss and change (DLC) model of genome evolution, recently introduced by Tiuryn, Wójtowicz and Rudnicki. After providing expressions for the generating functions of the density p and of the right-tail Q of the above distributions, we obtain closed forms for p and Q in terms of Gauss hypergeometric functions. Then, by resorting to the literature about special functions and their approximations, we provide an asymptotic expression for Q, which depends on parameters connected with the strengths of duplication and change. This shows that the DLC model yields a rich statistical model for the size distribution, whose elements are characterized by a composition of a power component with a negative exponential one. We also study the limiting distributions, as the parameters are made arbitrarily close to points of the boundary of their natural domain. In addition to the geometric distribution and to the unit mass at 1, the limiting class contains the distributions with the "longest" tails in the DLC model. A characterization of these probability laws is given.

Chargé, Sophie B. P., and Michael A. Rudnicki. Cellular and Molecular Regulation of Muscle Regeneration. Physiol Rev 84: 209–238, 2004; 10.1152/physrev.00019.2003.—Under normal circumstances, mammalian adult skeletal muscle is a stable tissue with very little turnover of nuclei. However, upon injury, skeletal muscle has the remarkable ability to initiate a rapid and extensive repair process preventing the loss of muscle mass. Skeletal muscle repair is a highly synchronized process involving the activation of various cellular responses. The initial phase of muscle repair is characterized by necrosis of the damaged tissue and activation of an inflammatory response. This phase is rapidly followed by activation of myogenic cells to proliferate, differentiate, and fuse leading to new myofiber formation and reconstitution of a functional contractile apparatus. Activation of adult muscle satellite cells is a key element in this process. Muscle satellite cell activation resembles embryonic myogenesis in several ways including the de novo induction of the myogenic regulatory factors. Signaling factors released during the regenerating process have been identified, but their functions remain to be fully defined. In addition, recent evidence supports the possible contribution of adult stem cells in the muscle regeneration process. In particular, bone marrow-derived and muscle-derived stem cells contribute to new myofiber formation and to the satellite cell pool after injury.

Resumen
We discuss a class of mathematical models of biological systems at microscopic level - i.e. at the level of interacting individuals of a population. The class leads to partially integral stochastic semigroups- [5]. We state general conditions guaranteeing the asymptotic stability. In particular under some rather restrictive assumptions we observe that any, even non-factorized, initial probability density tends in the evolution to a factorized equilibrium probability density - [4]. We discuss possible applications of the general theory such as redistribution of individuals - [2], thermal denaturation of DNA [1], and tendon healing process - [3]. [1] M. Debowski, M. Resumen
Field and borehole observations of active earthquake fault zones show that shear is often localized to principal deforming zones of order 0.1–10 mm width. This paper addresses how frictional heating in rapid slip weakens faults dramatically, relative to their static frictional strength, and promotes such intense localization. Pronounced weakening occurs even on dry rock-on-rock surfaces, due to flash heating effects, at slip rates above approximately 0.1 m s −1 (earthquake slip rates are typically of the order of 1 m s −1 ). But weakening in rapid shear is also predicted theoretically in thick fault gouge in the presence of fluids (whether native ground fluids or volatiles such as H 2 O or CO 2 released by thermal decomposition reactions), and the predicted localizations are compatible with such narrow shear zones as have been observed. The underlying concepts show how fault zone materials with high static friction coefficients, approximately 0.6–0.8, can undergo strongly localized shear at effective dynamic friction coefficients of the order of 0.1, thus fitting observational constraints, e.g. of earthquakes producing negligible surface heat outflow and, for shallow events, only rarely creating extensive melt. The results to be summarized include those of collaborative research published with Nicolas Brantut (University College London), Eric Dunham (Stanford University), Nadia Lapusta (Caltech), Hiroyuki Noda (JAMSTEC, Japan), John D. Platt (Carnegie Institution for Science, now at *gramLabs), Alan Rempel (Oregon State University) and John W. Rudnicki (Northwestern University). Resumen
This paper examines antisymmetric bifurcations of geometric diffuse modes, including buckling and surface rumpling modes, for a compressible pressure-sensitive circular cylinder of finite length under axisymmetric loadings. The analysis includes the effects of nonnormality, transverse isotropy, and confining stress on the appearance of antisymmetric geometric diffuse modes and their relationship to the onset of localization. The long wavelength limit of the eigenvalue equation is found corresponding to the Euler’s buckling load; the short wavelength limit corresponds to the eigenstress for the surface rumpling mode if the cylinder is incompressible and satisfies plastic normality. If the lateral stress is nonzero, a finite solution exists for the antisymmetric long wavelength limit; for the cases that the in-plane bulk modulus becomes unbounded, this finite eigenstress equals to the plane-strain results obtained by Chau and Rudnicki (1990). The lowest possible bifurcation stresses are plotted for various constitutive parameters by combining the results of the bifurcation analyses for both the axisymmetric (Chau, 1992) and the antisymmetric modes. This eigenvalue surface also provides a condition that determines whether buckling (antisymmetric) or bulging (axisymmetric) appears first for a fixed specimen geometry under compression. For typical specimen size (length/radius ratio from 4 to 6), the numerical results suggest that the first possible bifurcation is always the antisymmetric buckling mode under compression; however, for specimen sizes with length/radius ratio approximately less than π/2, bulging mode becomes the first possible bifurcation. The hypothesis that the prepeak and antisymmetric bifurcation triggers the subsequent localization of deformation is further discussed.

Resumen
The failure process in a brittle granite was studied by using acoustic emission techniques to obtain three dimensional locations of the microfracturing events. During a creep experiment the nucleation of faulting coincided with the onset of tertiary creep, but the development of the fault could not be followed because the failure occurred catastrophically. A technique has been developed that enables the failure process to be stabilized by controlling the axial stress to maintain a constant acoustic emission rate. As a result the post-failure stress-strain curve has been followed quasi-statically, extending to hours the fault growth process that normally would occur violently in a fraction of a second. The results from the rate-controlled experiments show that the fault plane nucleated at a point on the sample surface after the stress-strain curve reached its peak. Before nucleation, the microcrack growth was distributed throughout the sample. The fault plane then grew outward from the nucleation site and was accompanied by a gradual drop in stress. Acoustic emission locations showed that the fault propagated as a fracture front (process zone) with dimensions of 1 to 3 cm. As the fracture front passed by a given fixed point on the fault plane, the subsequent acoustic emission would drop. When growth was allowed to progress until the fault bisected the sample, the stress dropped to the frictional strength. These observations are in accord with the behavior predicted by Rudnicki and Rice’s bifurcation analysis but conflict with experiments used to infer that shear localization would occur in brittle rock while the material is still hardening.

Resumen
Abstract. Continuous agricultural land conversion poses threat to food security but this has not been monitored due to ineffectual policies. One of the Philippine provinces with a high rate of conversion is the rice-producing province of Cavite. To assess the spatiotemporal dynamics of agricultural land conversion in Cavite, this study aims to develop an operational methodology to produce Land Use and Land Cover (LULC) change maps using a multi-sensor remote sensing approach for decision making and planning. LULC maps were generated using Random Forest Classification of Landsat 8 and Sentinel-1 image collections. Spectral indices, combinations of radar polarizations (VV, VH), and their principal components were included to improve its accuracy. Conversion maps were generated by taking the bi-annual difference of LULC maps from 2016 to 2019. Accuracy was assessed using visual inspection with Google Earth Pro. Classification was carried out using single-sensor (optical or radar) and multi-sensor (optical and radar) approach in combination with three feature selection algorithms, namely, Sandri and Zuccolotto (2006), Liaw and Wiener (2015), Kursa and Rudnicki (2010). Multi-sensor and single sensor yielded similarly high overall accuracies (OA = 96%) with the exception of single-sensor radar approach (OA = 53%). Multi-sensor approaches exhibit high accuracies (Cumulative Accuracy = 91%) in detecting agricultural to built-up LULC change up to 5,000 square meters unlike single-sensor optical approach (Cumulative Accuracy = 76%). Among the multi-sensor approaches, the method of Liaw and Wiener (2015) remains to be superior as it only uses eight (8) variables.

Resumen
Embryonic stem cell technology is now well established in the mouse (reviewed by Robertson, 1987). This technology implies the isolation from the preimplantation embrao of a cell line (ES) that is cultured in vitro in an undifferentiated state. Embryonal carcinoma cells (EC) lines obtained from malignant tumours (Martin, 1975), together with all the information available on their culture requirements (reviewed by Heath, 1987), represented a very important starting point for the establishment of ES cells (Martin, 1981). ES cells share many characteristics with EC cells such as the ability to contribute to somatic tissues of animals obtained following injection of cells into a host blastocyst, to differentiate in vitro under appropriate stimuli (Rudnicki & McBurney, 1987) and to form retransplantable tumours. ES cells, however, have substantial advantages over EC cells in that they can be derived directly from a normal embryo, they maintain a normal karyotype and when reintroduced into a host blastocyst they can colonise the germ line (Bradley, 1987). ES cells are maintained in an undifferentiated state by the presence of feeder layers producing various factor(s) that prevent to the cells from differentiating. It has been shown that glycoproteins are responsible for this effect and these have been named according to their different activities: DIA, differentiation inhibitory activity (Smith & Hooper, 1987); LIF, leukaemia inhibiting factor (Smith et al, 1988; Williams et al, 1988); HILDA, human interleukin for DA cells (Moreau et al., 1988). It is now possible to establish and maintain ES cells in culture in the absence of feeders cells but in the presence of such factors (Nichols et al., 1990).

Odnosi się on z pewnością do św.

We have developed a new set of techniques for extracting information from maps of synchrotron emission. Some of these methods are used to determine the shape of the spectrum and then to isolate the contributions of the number and energy of relativistic electrons and the local magnetic field strength to the total intensity images. These are discussed in Katz-Stone, Rudnick & Anderson (1993), Katz-Stone & Rudnick (1994), and Rudnick, Katz-Stone & Anderson, (1994). Here, we describe a method - called spectral tomography - to remove confusion from various features along the line of sight. We find that both structural and spectral confusion are commonplace, and therefore our dynamical and radiative models of extragalactic sources need significant revision.

Resumen
This research purpose to describe the mathematical representation abilities of students based on the Krulik and Rudnick stages in terms of students' AQ. This research type is qualitative descriptive research. The research location is in SMAN Darussholah Singojuruh with the subjects of class XI MIPA 3 and XI MIPA 7 as many as 30 students. The data collecting methods used test and interview methods, with research instruments, such as Adversity Response Profile (ARP) questionnaire, mathematics test questions on linear program material, interview guidelines, and validation sheets. The subjects selected as interview respondents were two students from each level of AQ who had significant differences in ARP scores (scores between AQ Climber, Camper, and Quiter), as well as based on the timeliness and accuracy of students' answers. Based on the test result data analysis and interview data analysis, the following results were obtained, such as 1) Climber students could solve linear program questions based on Krulik and Rudnick stages coherently, and be able to used forms of verbal representations, visual representations, and mathematical expressions properly and correctly; 2) Camper students could solve linear program questions based on Krulik and Rudnick stages coherently but had not been able to use forms of verbal representations, visual representations, and mathematical expressions properly and correctly; 3) Quitter students had not been able to solve linear program questions based on Krulik and Rudnick stages correctly and had not been able to use their verbal representation, visual representation, and mathematical expression skills properly.

Resumen
The ability to solve mathematical problems is very important in learning math and everyday life. According to Krulik & Rudnick there are 5 stages of problem solving that is Read, Explore, Select A Strategy, Solve And Look Back. Mathematical problems require multiple representational skills to communicate problems, one of which is visual representation. Trigonometry is one of the materials that uses visual representation. This research is a qualitative descriptive research that aims to describe the ability of problem solving mathematics with Krulik & Rudnick stages in terms of visual representation. The study was conducted in MAN 2 Brebes. Determination of Subjects in this study using Purposive Sampling. Research instruments used to obtain the required data are visual representation and problem-solving tests, and interview guidelines. The data obtained were analyzed based on the Krulik & Rudnick problem solving indicator. Subjects in this study were subjects with moderate visual representation. Based on the results, problem solving ability of the subject is not fully fulfilled. Subjects with visual representations are able to do problem solving well that is solving the problem through a concept that is understood without visualization of the image. Subjects with visual representations are having a schematic visual representation type.
