Texto completoAt the perceptual level, time is not a constant metric defined by the ticks of a clock. Distortions in time perception occur due to various factors, including attention deficits, emotions, sleep deprivation, arousal, motion, and others. This thesis explores how the vestibular system influences time perception. In the first part of the thesis, two studies were conducted during long-term space missions. We found that astronauts aboard the International Space Station accurately estimate short time delays over days. However, they tend to overestimate durations ranging from seconds to minutes and underestimate durations on the scale of hours. Given that time distortions in space can arise from multiple sources, we conducted a specific vestibular task to isolate the vestibular contribution. The second part of the thesis includes two studies on time perception during vestibular stimulation, focusing on whole-body rotations. In the first study, we found that time during rotations is underestimated compared to static conditions in healthy subjects. In the second study, we confirmed that this time underestimation was vestibular, as it was absent in Bilateral Vestibulopathy patients. Our findings suggest that time perception depends on vestibular inputs: when vestibular inputs are decreased, perceived time is overestimated; when vestibular inputs are increased (stimulated), perceived time is underestimated

Texto completoIn this thesis we are interested in a generalization of the notion of primitive root proposed by Carmichael: an integer a is a generalized primitive root modulo a positive integer n if it generates a subgroup of maximal size in “mathbb{Z}/nmathbb{Z}”. More precisely, we study an analogue of Artin's conjecture for primitive roots in this framework. Artin's conjecture states that the proportion of primes smaller than x, for which a given integer a is a primitive root, converges to a nonzero limit as long as a is neither -1 nor a square. This conjecture was proved conditionally on the generalized Riemann hypothesis for certain numbers fields by Hooley in 1967.By analogy with Artin's conjecture we count the number of elements of a subset of positive integers A smaller than x for which a given integer a is a generalized primitive root. The case where the set A is the set of all positive integers has already been treated by Li and Pomerance in various papers. In the first chapter of this thesis we introduce a characterization of generalized primitive roots modulo an integer n in terms of the prime factorization of n, and then we describe a heuristic approach to the problem. The second chapter is devoted to the case where the set A is the set of ell almost primes, i.e. the integers having at most ell prime factors. Using sieve methods, results from algebraic number theory, the Selberg-Delange method and some combinatorial arguments we prove, conditionally on the generalized Riemann hypothesis, results similar to those obtained by Hooley for the Artin conjecture. Moreover, we show unconditionally an upper bound for the proportion of almost primes for which a is a generalized primitive root. Finally, we show that in the special case where ell=2, a better error term can be obtained by replacing the Selberg-Delange method by the hyperbola method. In the third and last chapter we consider the case where A is the set of sifted “x^heta” integers, i.e. the integers having no prime factor smaller than “x^heta”, for 0

Texto completoIn this thesis we study at length the discrete logarithm problem in finite fields. In the first part, we focus on the notion of smoothness and on ECM, the fastest known smoothness test. We present an improvement to the algorithm by analyzing the Galois properties of the division polynomials. We continue by an application of ECM in the last stage of the number field sieve (NFS). In the second part, we present NFS and its related algorithm on function fields (FFS). We show how to speed up the computation of discrete logarithms in all the prime finite fields of a given bit-size by using a pre-computation. We focus later on the polynomial selection stage of FFS and show how to compare arbitrary polynomials with a unique function. We conclude the second part with an algorithm issued from the recent improvements for discrete logarithm. The key fact was to create a descent procedure which has a quasi-polynomial number of nodes, each requiring a polynomial time. This leads to a quasi-polynomial algorithm for finite fields of small characteristic

Texto completoWe construct, for imaginary quadratic number fields with class number 1, an arithmetic site of Connes-Consani type. The main difficulty here is that the constructions of Connes and Consani and part of their results strongly rely on the natural order existing on real numbers which is compatible with basic arithmetic operations. Of course nothing of this sort exists in the case of imaginary quadratic number fields with class number 1. We first define what we call arithmetic site for such number fields, we then calculate the points of those arithmetic sites and we express them in terms of the ad\`eles class space considered by Connes to give a spectral interpretation of zeroes of Hecke L functions of number fields. We get therefore that for a fixed imaginary quadratic number field with class number 1, that the points of our arithmetic site are related to the zeroes of the Dedekind zeta function of the number field considered and to the zeroes of some Hecke L functions. We then study the relation between the spectrum of the ring of integers of the number field and the arithmetic site. Finally we construct the square of the arithmetic site

Texto completoE.Bombieri and J.Pila introduced a method to bound the number of integral points in a small given box (under some conditions). In algebraic part we generalise this method to the case of function fields of genus $0$ in ove variable. Then we apply the result to count the number of elliptic curves falling in the same isomorphic class with coefficients lying in a small box.Once we are done the natural question is how to improve this bound for some particular families of curves. We study the case of elliptic curves and use the fact that the necessary part of Birch Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture holds over function fields. We also use the properties of height functions and results about sphere packing. In analytic part we give an explicit version of Bombieri-Vinogradov theorem. This theorem is an important result that concerns the error term in Dirichlet's theorem in arithmetic progressions averaged over moduli $q$ up to $Q$. We improve the existent result of such type given in cite{Akbary2015}. We reduce the logarithmic power by using the large sieve inequality and Vaughan identity
