A ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr) é uma desordem ortopédica comum em cães que promove a instabilidade da articulação do joelho, resultando em claudicação e alterações degenerativas progressivas desta. A melhor técnica para reparação da RLCCr ainda não está bem elucidada. A maioria das técnicas alcança uma taxa de sucesso entre 80 a 90% e todas apresentam vantagens e desvantagens. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os resultados da estabilização extracapsular utilizando dois pontos distintos de ancoragem na articulação femoro-tibio-patelar como forma de tratamento da RLCCr em cães. Para tanto, foram utilizados 20 membros pélvicos de caninos. Após a RLCCr, todos os membros receberam avaliação da eficiência da técnica por meio do estudo da estabilidade crânio-caudal do joelho em flexão de 90° e extensão de 135°. As estabilizações extracapsulares realizadas nos cadáveres conferiram estabilidade crânio-caudal sem demonstrar superioridade de uma ou outra técnica, e nenhuma delas pode atribuir estabilidade isométrica quando testadas com os membros em 90° e 130°.

Laryngeal airway resistance (Rlar) was measured in eight normal adult humans during progressive hyperoxic hypercapnia. In most subjects, the translaryngeal pressure-flow relationship appeared linear under normocapnic conditions. During hypercapnia, the pressure-flow relationship on inspiration and expiration was curvilinear with increasing translaryngeal pressure associated with progressively smaller increments in flow. Translaryngeal pressure-flow relationships at different CO2 levels were compared over their common flow ranges by performing a least-squares linear regression on data throughout inspiration and expiration. During normocapnia, the mean slope, i.e., mean Rlar, was 0.50 +/- 0.21 (SD) cmH2O.l-1.s. A moderately significant decrease in Rlar was present at 9% end-tidal CO2 (P = 0.08). In a separate series of experiments, subjects breathed oxygen- and helium-based gas mixtures through a face mask attached to a pneumotachograph. Data analysis over the flow range present during normocapnia revealed no difference in Rlar between nose and mouth breathing and similar decreases in Rlar under hypercapnic conditions with the oxygen- and helium-based gas mixtures. The decrease in Rlar from normocapnic to hypercapnic conditions found over common, but relatively low, ranges of flow predicts that even greater increases in Rlar would occur at high flow rates in the absence of increasing glottic aperture.

In Location-Based Social Networks (LBSNs), registered users submit their reviews for visited point-of-interests (POIs) to the system providers (SPs). The SPs anonymously publish submitted reviews to build reputations for POIs. Unfortunately, the user profile and trajectory contained in reviews can be easily obtained by adversaries who SPs has compromised with. Even worse, existing techniques, such as cryptography and generalization, etc., are infeasible due to the necessity of public publication of reviews and the facticity of reviews. Inspired by pseudonym techniques, we propose an approach to exchanging reviews before users submit reviews to SPs. In our approach, we introduce two attacks, namely review-based location correlation attack (RLCA) and semantic-based long-term statistical attack (SLSA). RLCA can be exploited to link the real user by reconstructing the trajectory, and SLSA can be launched to establish a connection between locations and users through the difference of semantic frequency. To resist RLCA, we design a method named User Selection to Resist RLCA (USR-RLCA) to exchange reviews. We propose a metric to measure the correlation between a user and a trajectory. Based on the metric, USR-RLCA can select reviews resisting RLCA to exchange by suppressing the number of locations on each reconstructed trajectory below the correlation. However, USR-RLCA fails to resist SLSA because of ignoring the essential semantics. Hence, we design an enhanced USR-RLCA named User Selection to Resist SLSA (USR-SLSA). We first propose a metric to measure the indistinguishability of locations concerning the difference of semantic frequency in a long term. Then, USR-SLSA can select reviews resisting SLSA to exchange by allowing two reviews whose indistinguishability is below the probability difference after the exchange to be exchanged. Evaluation results verify the effectiveness of our approach in terms of privacy and utility.

Relata-se o caso de um cão que recebeu injeções intra-articulares de plasma rico em plaquetas (PRP) durante o pós-operatório do tratamento cirúrgico de ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr). Os resultados clínicos e da avaliação da marcha mediante plataforma de força neste paciente sugerem a utilização de injeções intra-articulares de PRP como terapia pós-cirúrgica no tratamento da RLCCr.

Introducción La lesión del ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA), es una patología frecuente, y el éxito de la reconstrucción depende de diversos factores, tales como la técnica quirúrgica empleada, la edad del paciente, índice masa corporal, nivel de actividad y lesiones asociadas. El objetivo de este estudio es comparar los resultados funcionales a largo plazo de pacientes con lesiones condrales tratadas y sin lesiones condrales sometidos a la reconstrucción de LCA (RLCA), con autoinjerto semitendinoso-gracilis (ST-G). Materiales y Métodos Estudio analítico retrospectivo. Cuarenta y nueve pacientes (34 hombres y 15 mujeres), fueron sometidos a la RLCA con autoinjerto ST-G. Se compararon dos grupos. Grupo RLCA + LC: 24 pacientes con lesiones condrales ICRS grado III y IV tratadas en el mismo acto quirúrgico y grupo RLCA: 25 pacientes sin lesiones condrales concomitantes. Las edades promedio fueron de 32 y 28 años en cada grupo respectivamente. La funcionalidad de los pacientes a largo plazo fue evaluada con el test de Lysholm, IKDC y retorno deportivo. Se compararon los promedios de los scores funcionales según cada grupo con Test de Mann-Whitney. La asociación entre ambos grupos y el retorno deportivo se analizó con Test de Chi2. Los análisis estadísticos se realizaron con Stata IC 13. Resultados El seguimiento promedio fue de 106,8 meses (rango: 86–125). Los resultados funcionales obtenidos al comparar el grupo RLCA + LC vs grupo RLCA fueron significativamente peores en el primero, con un promedio del score de Lysholm de 84,87 vs 94,52 (p = 0.0001) e IKDC de 84,43 vs 92,08 (p = 0,004), respectivamente. El retorno deportivo de cada grupo fue de 70,8% y 88% (p = 0,136). Conclusión La funcionalidad a largo plazo de los pacientes con una RLCA y que tengan alguna LC profunda tratada concomitante, es significativamente inferior que aquellos pacientes con RLCA aislada. No existen diferencias significativas en el porcentaje de retorno deportivo entre ambos grupos. Nivel de evidencia: tipo IV

Resumo Objetivos O objetivo deste estudo é revisar e analisar sistematicamente o desfecho funcional do procedimento de tenodese extra-articular lateral (TEL) em complemento à reconstrução do ligamento cruzado anterior (RLCA) em de estudos com alto nível de evidências. Métodos Realizamos a pesquisa bibliográfica para estudos clínicos comparando o método TEL como complemento à RCLA com a RLCA isolada. Os resultados principais foram a pontuação no Comitê Internacional de Documentação de Joelho (IKDC, na sigla em inglês), pontuação de Lysholm, e falhas no enxerto. Variáveis contínuas foram relatadas, como médias e intervalos de confiança (ICs) de 95%. Resultados Seis estudos clínicos com 1,049 pacientes foram incluídos na metanálise. O período de seguimento foi de, em média, 24 meses (intervalo de 6–63 meses). A adição do procedimento TEL à reconstrução do LCA resultou em melhor resultado funcional com base no escore IKDC (p < 0,05). A falha do enxerto foi menor no grupo RLCA mais TEL (16 dos 342 pacientes) em comparação com o grupo apenas RLCA (46 dos 341 pacientes) (p < 0,05). Conclusão Há evidências de alto nível de que o procedimento TEL como complemento à RLCA é preferível em termos de resultado funcional e falha do enxerto.

Stauntonia hexaphylla(Thunb.) Decne. (Lardizabalaceae) leaves (SHL) have been used traditionally as analgesics, sedatives, diuretics, and so on, in China. To date, no data have been reported on the inhibitory effect of SHL and its constituents on rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR) and advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Therefore, the inhibitory effect of compounds isolated from SHL extract on RLAR and AGEs was investigated to evaluate potential treatments of diabetic complications. The ethyl acetate (EtOAC) fraction of SHL extract showed strong inhibitory activity on RLAR and AGEs; therefore, EtOAc fraction (3.0 g) was subjected to Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, for further fractionation, with 100% MeOH solvent system to investigate its effect on RLAR and AGEs. Phytochemical investigation of SHL led to the isolation of seven compounds. Among the isolated compounds, chlorogenic acid, calceolarioside B, luteolin-3′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, and luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside exhibited significant inhibitory activity against RLAR with IC50in the range of 7.34–23.99 μM. In addition, 3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl) propionic acid, neochlorogenic acid, and luteolin-3′-O-β-D-glucopyranoside exhibited the most potent inhibitory activity against formation of AGEs, with an IC50value of 115.07–184.06 μM, compared to the positive control aminoguanidine (820.44 μM). Based on these findings, SHL dietary supplements could be considered for the prevention and/or treatment of diabetes complication.

O presente trabalho correlacionou o tempo de ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr) à lesão em menisco medial e ao tipo de lesão observada em cães tratados por estabilização dinâmica (osteotomias) ou estática (sutura fabelo-tibial). Este estudo retrospectivo avaliou os registros de 104 cães (117 joelhos). As osteotomias foram realizadas em 98 articulações, a sutura fabelo-tibial em 15 joelhos e, em 4 joelhos, foi realizada apenas artrotomia exploratória. A média de idade foi 4,5 anos, 41% dos cães eram machos e 59%, fêmeas e a média da massa corporal foi 32,7kg. Os tipos de lesão do menisco medial observados foram: tipo 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 e associações dos tipos 1-4, 1-6 e 1-7. O tipo 1 foi o mais prevalente, sendo responsável por 32,5% dos casos. Não foram encontradas correlações entre a presença ou não de lesão de menisco medial e o tempo de ocorrência da RLCCr e entre o tipo de lesão de menisco medial e o tempo de RLCCr.

The Reference Library of the Chinese Academy of Arts (RLCAA) has identified the maintenance and development of its rich collections as its primary objective, which it pursues not merely by acquiring published materials but also, for example, by making recordings of musical and dramatic performances. But also, the RLCAA is committed to promoting and facilitating the use of its collections, and is consciously moving away from a passive custodial role to the active provision of services to users. In order to serve their users better, libraries must end their isolation and join together in networks; a new building at the Chinese Academy of Arts is to become the national centre for art information and library services, and this development also challenges the Academy to co-ordinate its several resource centres more effectively. Staff at the RLCAA have already created an art thesaurus, and are currently working on a bibliography of Chinese artists which it is hoped will be the first of several online databases covering different branches of the arts in China.

DW1029M is a botanical extract consisting of Morus bark and Puerariae radix, produced by Dong-Wha Pharmaceutical, for nephroprotective drug development; it has been in phase II clinical trials in Korea. In our mechanistic investigations, we found that DW1029M inhibits advanced glycation end products (AGEs), rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR), and transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 signaling, all of which are implicated in diabetic complications such as diabetic nephropathy and diabetic retinopathy. DW1029M inhibits AGE formation via Fe2+ chelation. The extract contains 13 active constituents that inhibit AGE formation, 8 active constituents that inhibit RLAR activity, and 1 inhibitor of TGF-β1 signaling. Our results suggest DW1029M protects against diabetic nephropathy via blockade of AGE formation, RLAR activity, and TGF-β1 signaling.

A Ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr) é uma das enfermidades articulares mais comuns no cão e diversas são as técnicas cirúrgicas utilizadas para correção de sua instabilidade, porém nenhuma delas impede o desenvolvimento da doença articular degenerativa (DAD). Entretanto deve-se promover a estabilidade articular, garantindo qualidade de vida ao animal. A osteotomia de nivelamento do platô tibial (TPLO) é umas das técnicas mais utilizadas na atualidade e tem demonstrado melhores resultados quanto ao retorno funcional nos animais submetidos a este procedimento. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o resultado da técnica de osteotomia de nivelamento do platô da tíbia (TPLO) em um cão com RLCCr bilateral.

Diabetes complications, including peripheral neuropathy, cataracts, impaired wound healing, vascular damage, arterial wall stiffening and retinopathy diseases, are among the most predominant health problems facing the world’s population today. The 22 Peruvian plant extracts were screened for their potential inhibitory activity against rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR) and DPPH radical scavenging. Among them, we have found that Tanacetum parthenium L. (TP) has the RLAR, AGEs and DPPH radical scavenging activities. We used for screening of active components in TP against RLAR and DPPH for the first time by ultrafiltration (UF) and DPPH. Compounds in TP were isolated by Sephadex column chromatography and their structures were established by MS and NMR spectroscopic analyses. Among the isolated compounds, ferulic acid, apigenin, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, luteolin, chrysosplenol, and kaempferol showed potent inhibition with IC50 values of 1.11–3.20 and 6.44–16.23 μM for RLAR and DPPH radical scavenging. Furthermore, these compounds suppressed sorbitol accumulation in rat lenses and ferulic acid, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, and luteolin have AGEs inhibitory activities with IC50 values of 3.43–6.73 μM. In summary, our study provides interesting plants for further study with respect to the treatment and prevention of diabetic complication of Peruvian plant and can provide the scientific base of the traditional uses.

Objetivo Determinar la precisión diagnóstica de las radiografías de rodilla para la medición de los diámetros de los túneles tibiales y femorales en reconstrucción de ligamento cruzado anterior (RLCA). Materiales y Pacientes Estudio retrospectivo de precisión diagnóstica en pacientes con antecedentes de RLCA. Inclusión: RLCA realizada en el mismo centro, con el mismo equipo quirúrgico, entre 2011 y 2015; uso de cualquier tipo de injerto y de fijación; estudiados con radiografía (Rx) y tomografía computada (TC) durante postop en el mismo centro. Exclusión: desfase Rx-TC > 6 meses; cirugía entre estudios radiológicos. Análisis de túneles por 3 especialistas (OsiriX). La precisión diagnóstica consideró la TC como gold standard. Se midieron las diferencias inter e intra-observador, y las variables que interfirieron en las mediciones. Resultados 22 pacientes cumplieron los criterios de selección, determinando 528 mediciones en total (Rx y TC, fémur y tibia, 3 observadores, 2 tiempos). No hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas en la medición de los túneles femorales (p = 0.8986), pero sí en cuanto a los diámetros tibiales (p = 0.0001). El análisis de precisión diagnóstica determinó una sobrevaloración de los diámetros óseos al usar la radiografía (10,5% en fémur, 10% en tibia). Hubo diferencias estadísticamente significativas inter-observador tanto en Rx como en TC (observador más joven con el resto); sin diferencias intra-observador. Conclusión La Rx como método diagnóstico del diámetro de túneles óseos luego de una RLCA sobreestima los valores reales, lo que empeora cuando el observador tiene menor experiencia.

In this research, the properties of pressed lightweight fly ash geopolymer concrete block containing Portland cement and recycled lightweight concrete aggregate. The recycled lightweight concrete aggregate (RLCA) was crushed and classified as coarse aggregate (CA), medium aggregate (MA) and fine aggregate (FA). The RLCA with CA : MA : FA of 30 : 30 : 40 by weight was used to reduce the weight of concrete block. Lightweight geopolymer concrete block was produced from lignite fly ash, NaOH, Na2SiO3, RCLA and PC. The lightweight geopolymer concrete blocks with 28-day compressive strengths between 2.0 and 14.1 MPa and densities between 1130 and 1370 kg/m3 were obtained.

Ruptura de ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr) é a afecção ortopédica mais frequente no joelho de cães e a sutura fabelo-tibial é frequentemente utilizada na sua correção. Essa técnica pode estar associada com complicações incisionais, lesão tardia de menisco, edema associado ao material de sutura e infecção. O objetivo desta nota foi relatar a ocorrência de fratura proximal de tíbia em um cão, causada por complicação em sutura fabelo-tibial para correção de RLCCr. Um canino atendido em outro serviço foi submetido à osteossíntese com placa 2,0mm para correção de complicação em técnica extra-capsular, na qual houve fratura da tíbia na região do orifício criado para confecção da sutura fabelo-tibial. Houve falha dos implantes e a placa foi removida. A fratura foi estabilizada com fixador esquelético externo circular, sendo constatada, após 120 dias, consolidação.

Aldose reductase (AR) is a drug target for therapies to treat complications caused by diabetes mellitus, and the development of effective AR inhibitors (ARIs) of natural origin is considered to be an attractive option for reducing these complications. In this research, the rat lens AR (RLAR) inhibitory activity of evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) seeds was investigated for the first time. In our results, the 50% (v/v) methanol extract of evening primrose seeds exhibits excellent RLAR inhibitory activity (IC50 value of 7.53 μg/mL). Moreover, after enrichment of its bioactive components, the ARIs are more likely to be present in the ethyl acetate fraction of 50% (v/v) methanol extract (EME) of evening primrose seeds, which exhibits superior RLAR inhibitory activity (IC50 value of 3.08 µg/mL). Finally, gallic acid (1), procyanidin B3 (2), catechin (3), and methyl gallate (4) were identified as the major ARIs from the EME by affinity-based ultrafiltration-high-performance liquid chromatography and were isolated by high speed countercurrent chromatography, with gallic acid (11.46 µmol/L) and catechin (14.78 µmol/L) being the more potent inhibitors of the four ARIs identified. The results demonstrated that evening primrose seeds may be a potent ingredient of ARIs.

This present work is designed to evaluate the anti-diabetic potential of 22 ginsenosides via the inhibition against rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR), and human recombinant aldose reductase (HRAR), using DL-glyceraldehyde as a substrate. Among the ginsenosides tested, ginsenoside Rh2, (20S) ginsenoside Rg3, (20R) ginsenoside Rg3, and ginsenoside Rh1 inhibited RLAR significantly, with IC50 values of 0.67, 1.25, 4.28, and 7.28 µM, respectively. Moreover, protopanaxadiol, protopanaxatriol, compound K, and ginsenoside Rh1 were potent inhibitors of HRAR, with IC50 values of 0.36, 1.43, 2.23, and 4.66 µM, respectively. The relationship of structure–activity exposed that the existence of hydroxyl groups, linkages, and their stereo-structure, as well as the sugar moieties of the ginsenoside skeleton, represented a significant role in the inhibition of HRAR and RLAR. Additional, various modes of ginsenoside inhibition and molecular docking simulation indicated negative binding energies. It was also indicated that it has a strong capacity and high affinity to bind the active sites of enzymes. Further, active ginsenosides suppressed sorbitol accumulation in rat lenses under high-glucose conditions, demonstrating their potential to prevent sorbitol accumulation ex vivo. The findings of the present study suggest the potential of ginsenoside derivatives for use in the development of therapeutic or preventive agents for diabetic complications.

Avaliou-se a sutura fabelar lateral (SFL) com fáscia lata autógena para estabilização dos joelhos de cães de raças de grande porte, acometidos por ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr). Os animais foram submetidos à avaliação clínica e radiográfica no pré-operatório e aos 60, 180 e, em alguns casos, 360 dias de pós-operatório. A partir do 60º dia, os cães apresentavam-se apoiando o membro normalmente ou com claudicação com apoio contínuo do membro. No 360º dia, quatro joelhos apresentavam-se estáveis, e o restante demonstrava instabilidade leve. No 360º dia, dos seis membros avaliados, três não haviam recuperado a medida da coxa aferida no pré-operatório. Os escores de doença articular degenerativa (DAD) para os períodos de 180 e 360 dias foram significativamente maiores que os atribuídos no pré-operatório. A SFL com fáscia lata foi adequada para o tratamento de RLCCr em cães de raças de grande porte, quando consideradas a estabilidade do joelho e a deambulação, e não impediu ou retardou a evolução da DAD.

Autonomous collision avoidance technology provides an intelligent method for unmanned surface vehicles’ (USVs) safe and efficient navigation. In this paper, the USV collision avoidance problem under the constraint of the international regulations for preventing collisions at sea (COLREGs) was studied. Here, a reinforcement learning collision avoidance (RLCA) algorithm is proposed that complies with USV maneuverability. Notably, the reinforcement learning agent does not require any prior knowledge about USV collision avoidance from humans to learn collision avoidance motions well. The double-DQN method was used to reduce the overestimation of the action-value function. A dueling network architecture was adopted to clearly distinguish the difference between a great state and an excellent action. Aiming at the problem of agent exploration, a method based on the characteristics of USV collision avoidance, the category-based exploration method, can improve the exploration ability of the USV. Because a large number of turning behaviors in the early steps may affect the training, a method to discard some of the transitions was designed, which can improve the effectiveness of the algorithm. A finite Markov decision process (MDP) that conforms to the USVs’ maneuverability and COLREGs was used for the agent training. The RLCA algorithm was tested in a marine simulation environment in many different USV encounters, which showed a higher average reward. The RLCA algorithm bridged the divide between USV navigation status information and collision avoidance behavior, resulting in successfully planning a safe and economical path to the terminal.

AbstractBackground and ObjectivesPortal hypertensive gastropathy (PHG) is described endoscopically as “mosaic-like appearance” of gastric mucosa with or without the red spots. It can only be diagnosed by upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of platelet count to spleen diameter ratio (PSR) and right liver lobe diameter to albumin ratio (RLAR) in the detection of PHG using upper GI endoscopy as a gold standard in patients with liver cirrhosis.Material and MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Hepatogastroenterology, Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, Karachi. All consecutive patients with ages 18–65 years who were screened using esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) to exclude esophageal varices were enrolled. At the same time, findings related to PHG were noted. After informed consent, all the patients had blood tests including platelet count and albumin and abdominal ultrasound determining spleen diameter and right liver lobe diameter.ResultsOut of 111 patients, 59 (53.15%) were males with a mean age of 44 ± 12.61 years. Rate of PHG was observed in 84.68% (94/111) cases confirmed by EGD. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy of PSR were 87.23%, 5.88%, 83.67%, 7.69%, and 74.7%, respectively, and those of RLAR were 28.72%, 70.59%, 84.38%, 15.19%, and 35.14%, respectively.ConclusionPSR is better predictor of PHG than RLAR but at the expense of relatively lower specificities and NPV likely because of underlying pathophysiology (portal hypertension) which is similar for esophageal varices, PHG, and ascites.

Aldose reductase (AR) inhibitors have a considerable therapeutic potential against diabetes complications and do not increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Through bioassay-guided fractionation of an EtOH extract of the kernel from purple corn (Zea maysL.), 7 nonanthocyanin phenolic compounds (compound1–7) and 5 anthocyanins (compound8–12) were isolated. These compounds were investigated by rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR) inhibitory assays. Kinetic analyses of recombinant human aldose reductase (rhAR) were performed, and intracellular galactitol levels were measured. Hirsutrin, one of 12 isolated compounds, showed the most potent RLAR inhibitory activity (IC50, 4.78 μM). In the kinetic analyses using Lineweaver-Burk plots of 1/velocity and 1/substrate concentration, hirsutrin showed competitive inhibition against rhAR. Furthermore, hirsutrin inhibited galactitol formation in rat lens and erythrocytes sample incubated with a high concentration of galactose; this finding indicates that hirsutrin may effectively prevent osmotic stress in hyperglycemia. Therefore, hirsutrin derived fromZea maysL. may be a potential therapeutic agent against diabetes complications.

The inhibitory activities of Matricaria recutita L. 70% methanol extract were evaluated by isolating and testing 10 of its compounds on rat lens aldose reductase (RLAR), advanced glycation end products (AGEs), and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging. Among these compounds, apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucoside, apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide, 3,5-O-di-caffeoylquinic acid, apigenin, and luteolin showed potent inhibition, and their IC50 values in RLAR were 4.25, 1.12, 1.16, 0.85, 0.72, 1.72, and 1.42 μM, respectively. Furthermore, these compounds suppressed sorbitol accumulation in rat lens under high-glucose conditions, demonstrating their potential to prevent sorbitol accumulation ex vivo. Notably, luteolin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide and luteolin showed antioxidative as well as AGE-inhibitory activities (IC50 values of these compounds in AGEs were 3.39 and 6.01 μM). These results suggest that the M. recutita extract and its constituents may be promising agents for use in the prevention or treatment of diabetic complications.

Difficulties in purifying the plasma enzyme lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) have hampered detailed studies of its (patho)physiological role in lipoprotein metabolism and of structure-function relationships. Potentially, baculovirus-driven expression systems offer a powerful means to produce significant amounts of LCAT. Accordingly, full-length LCAT cDNA was cloned into pVL 1392, a high-level expression derivative of Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV), and the resultant plasmid was co-transfected into Trichoplusia ni insect cells (High 5 line) with a linearized viral DNA using lipofectin. Such viral DNA had a lethal mutation and grew only when recombined with a pVL1392-type rescue plasmid; cells infected with recombinant Autographa californica LCAT virus changed from a fibroblast-like morphology to rounded, but lacked the polyhedrin occlusion bodies characteristic of wild-type AcNPV infections. Enzymically active recombinant LCAT (rLCAT), sensitive to sulphydryl reagents, was secreted in the late phase of infection (36-48 h) but was absent with wild-type infections. The secreted protein had an apparent molecular mass of 53 kDa by SDS/PAGE, lower than that of native plasma LCAT; it was susceptible to endoglycosidase H digestion and was bound by concanavalin A, suggesting that precursor high-mannose N-glycan chains had not undergone full maturation to complex types. Pretreatment of the cells with tunicamycin to inhibit the first step of N-glycosylation led to intracellular accumulation of immature rLCAT (approximately 46-48 kDa) and a marked reduction in enzyme secreted. We conclude that the baculovirus gene-expression system will permit production of biologically active normal and mutant forms of LCAT protein.

Abstract Purpose To define the best possible outcomes for robotic-assisted low anterior rectum resection (RLAR) using total mesorectal excision (TME) in low-morbid patients, performed by expert robotic surgeons in German robotic centers. The benchmark values were derived from these results. Methods The data was retrospectively collected from five German expert centers. After patient exclusion (prior surgery, extended surgery, no prior anastomosis, hand-sewn anastomosis), the benchmark cohort was defined (n = 226). The median with interquartile range was first calculated for the individual centers. The 75th percentile of the median results was defined as the benchmark cutoff and represents the “perfect” achievable outcome. This applied to all benchmark values apart from lymph node yield, where the cutoff was defined as the 25th percentile (more lymph nodes are better). Results The benchmark values for conversion and intraoperative complication rates were ≤ 4.0% and ≤ 1.4%, respectively. For postoperative complications, the benchmark was ≤ 28% for “any” and ≤ 18.0% for major complications. The R0 and complete TME rate benchmarks were both 100%, with a lymph node yield of > 18. The benchmark for rate of anastomotic insufficiency was < 12.5% and 90-day mortality was 0%. Readmission rates should not exceed 4%. Conclusion This outcome analysis of patients with low comorbidity undergoing RLAR may serve as a reference to evaluate surgical performance in robotic rectum resection.

Colloidal aggregation is a very old field of research. The basic mechanism that controls the stability of colloidal solutions has been described in the celebrated papers of Derjaguin, Landau, Verwey, and Overbeek (DLVO), and indeed the prevention of undesired aggregation is one of the primary concerns in many industrial processes involving colloids. In the last 10 years a resurgence of interest in aggregation rather than in stability has been spurred by a number of fortuitous coincidences. Both through simulations and experiments, it was realized that colloidal aggregates exhibit a fractal nature. More importantly, it was found that there are two universal modes of aggregation, irrespective of the type of colloidal system. The aggregates grown according to these modes have different fractal dimensions, different reaction kinetics, and different mass distributions. The two modes are called diffusion-limited cluster aggregation (DLCA) and reaction-limited cluster aggregation (RLCA), according to whether the probability that a bond formed as a consequence of an encounter is equal to, or much smaller than one, respectively. The study of these limiting cases has been the object of extensive studies in the late 1980s, and many of the features of these modes are by now well understood.This article describes some recent results in the area of colloidal aggregation. Although we present mostly static light-scattering data from our laboratory, connections to similar work from other groups are also discussed. For the convenience of the reader, we start by recalling some of the relevant features of both DLCA and RLCA.

This presentation deals with the aggregation characteristics of Cu and Ag nanoparticles in presence of starch as the polymer stabilizer. Uncontrolled aggregation of the destabilized nanoparticles offers problem for applications based on surface plasmon activity. Polymer or small molecule surfactants are used to control nature of aggregation of nanoparticles produced by chemical reduction synthesis routes. Different growth models such as diffusion limited cluster aggregation (DLCA), reaction limited cluster aggregation (RLCA) proposed to explain the formation of fractal colloidal aggregates do not account for aggregate formation in presence of polymer or small molecule surfactants. We shall be discussing the role of starch on the aggregation characteristics of copper and silver nanoparticles formed by chemical reduction in aqueous conditions. The effect of NaOH concentration and consequently the pH on such aggregation kinetics during such synthesis is delineated. We use small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) to quantitatively understand different aspects of aggregation behavior.

İşletmelerin bu rekabet gücünün oluşmasında en büyük rol lojistik faaliyetlerindir. Lojistik faaliyetlerde dış kaynak kullanımı; işletmelerin asıl işlerine, ana faaliyetlerine daha fazla zaman ayırmaları anlamına gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada üçüncü ve dördüncü parti lojistik kavramları ele alınmaktadır.

A técnica TightRope, que procura aperfeiçoar a estabilização extra-capsular com sutura lateral, por meio da realização de mínimas incisões e criação de túneis ósseos em pontos isométricos, que permitem a inserção de mecanismo que anula o movimento de gaveta, além de reduzir a ocorrência de complicações graves. Dessa forma, objetivou-se avaliar a modificação da técnica TightRope em joelhos de cadáveres caninos com a finalidade de disponibilizar um procedimento simples e de custo reduzido para tratamento da Ruptura do ligamento cruzado cranial (RLCCr). Experimentalmente, foram utilizados 20 membros pélvicos de dez cadáveres caninos, provenientes do setor de patologia da Universidade Norte do Paraná, os quais pesavam entre 6,3 e 24kg. Para estabilização do LCCr, rompido intencionalmente, foi adotada a técnica de TightRope modificada utilizando fio de poliamida, cavilha e emprego de um parafuso ortopédico para proporcionar a fixação óssea. Comparando os valores de deslocamento obtidos durante a realização do movimento de gaveta previamente à ruptura do LCCr e após a realização do procedimento cirúrgico, observou-se que a modificação da técnica TightRope promoveu estabilidade significativa para a maioria (12 de 20) dos joelhos testados (P=0,0033). Contudo, essa estabilidade foi inferior, quando comparada à estabilidade do ligamento intacto.

Oxidative stress and aldose reductase activity have been implicated in the development of diabetic complications. In this study, the antioxidant and aldose reductase (AR) inhibitory effects ofMaackia amurensis(MA) were investigated. The ethyl acetate fraction of the MA extract showed the highest inhibitory activity in antioxidant and rat lens AR (RLAR). To identify and isolate the active components in the ethyl acetate fraction of the MA extract, high-speed countercurrent chromatography and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography were performed and guided by an offline HPLC-ABTS assay and HPLC microfractionation AR assay. Four antioxidants, namely, piceatannol (IC50= 6.73 μM), resveratrol (IC50= 11.05 μM),trans-ferulic acid (IC50= 13.51 μM), and chlorogenic acid (IC50= 27.23 μM), and six AR inhibitors, namely, chlorogenic acid (IC50= 4.2 μM), tectoridin (IC50= 50.4 μM), genistein (IC50= 57.1 μM), formononetin (IC50= 69.2 μM), resveratrol (IC50= 117.6 μM), and daidzein (IC50= 151.9 μM), were isolated and identified. The screening results of the offline HPLC-ABTS assay and HPLC microfractionation AR assay matched the activity of isolated compounds. Thus, MA is potentially valuable for antioxidant and AR inhibitor discovery and efficient drug design for the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications.

Low atrial rhythm (LAR) is an ectopic rhythm originating in the lower part of the right or left atrium. Prior observational studies attempted to quantify the prevalence of low atrial rhythm in the pediatric population, but the observed prevalence was highly variable with relatively small sample sizes. We aimed to characterize low atrial rhythm and determine its prevalence in a large population of 24,316 asymptomatic children from northwestern Transylvania. We found a prevalence of 0.6% (145 children) for low atrial rhythm. Children with LAR had a significantly lower heart rate (mean 78.6 ± 8.3 bpm), than the control sinus rhythm group (85.02 ± 4.5 bpm). Furthermore, a shorter PR interval was seen in children with LAR (132.7 ± 12.7 ms) than in the children from the control group (141.7 ± 5.4; p = 0.0001).There was no significant association between gender and the presence of left LAR (LLAR) or right LAR (RLAR) (p = 0.5876). The heart rate of children with LLAR was significantly higher (81.7 ± 11.6 bpm) than that of the children with LRAR (77.6 ± 11.1 bpm) (p = 0.037). Pediatric cardiologists should recognize low atrial rhythm and be aware that asymptomatic, healthy children can exhibit this pattern, which does not require therapeutic intervention.

The implementation of the Law No 22 and 25 in 1999 has been recognized as starting point for Indonesia in pursuing a comprehensive and ambitious decentralization program. Decentralization in further step has changed many things including people’s perception especially on the role of regional banks. For some extend the existing regional banks have been claimed as the main cause for “capital flight” from one region to other regions. LDR is used as the only one parameter for claiming that regional banks do not play its role as the intermediary institution and caused the “capital flight”.This paper, derived from the study of the effectiveness of regional banking conducted by PPSK BI, addressed the issue how regional banking should be assessed and what factors affect its effectiveness as intermediary institution. One of the findings of this study is that LDR should not be used as the only one parameter for the effectiveness of regional banks intermediary function. To assess whether regional bank have played its role effectively or not, this study proposed 3 other parameters: RLCR, TLCR and R2. Another important finding of this study is that banking decentralization in term of changes from branch office banking into unit office banking will affect positively the intermediation function of regional bank.

Turizm sadece ülkelerin değil şehirlerin de kalkınmasında önemli rol oynayan araçlardan birisidir. Şehirler, artan rekabet ortamında daha fazla turist çekebilmek için, farklı yöntemler, farklı stratejiler geliştirmenin yollarını aramaktadırlar. Şehrin daha fazla turist çekebilmesine yardımcı olacak önemli araçlardan birisi de şehir pazarlamasıdır. Şehir pazarlaması, şehri bir ürün olarak düşünüp, pazarlama yöntem ve araçlarını kullanarak şehrin sahip olduğu değerlerin hedef kitlelere tanıtılması olarak tanımlanabilir. Şehir pazarlaması yoluyla şehri bir marka haline getirip, marka imajını yükselterek, şehrin tanınırlığını ve çekiciliğini yükseltmek ve bu sayede daha fazla turist çekmek mümkün olabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, şehir pazarlaması ve markalaşması kapsamında, Yozgat ilinin turizm potansiyelini değerlendirmek, mevcut durumu ortaya koymak, dünyadaki ve ülkemizdeki diğer örneklerden yola çıkarak Yozgat ili için önerilerde bulunmaktır. Bu kapsamda, literatür taraması yapılarak şehir pazarlaması, şehir markalaşması ve örnek şehirler hakkında bilgiler sunulduktan sonra, Yozgat ilinin turistik ürün olarak pazarlanmasında sahip olduğu potansiyel incelenmiş ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Çalışmanın Yozgat ilinin turizm potansiyelinin artırılmasına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

This study investigates the bathymetry of three major lakes and the water quality of nine lakes at Ramaroshan Lake Complex Area (RLCA), Far-Western Nepal. Lakes were surveyed based on line transects using Echosounder (depth measuring gauge) and GPS to collect the data for bathymetry. Water samples were collected from 43 sites of nine lakes, considering the land use patterns, anthropogenic activities, inlets, and outlets. Twenty physico-chemical parameters were analyzed to know the water characteristics and pollution level. The bathymetry map showed that Jingale is the deepest lake (44 m), followed by Batula (15 m) and Mathillo Dhaune (9.5 m). There was no significant spatial variability in the concentration of physicochemical parameters among the sampling sites. The mean concentrations of cations and anions were in the order of Ca2+> Mg2+> Na+> K+, and HCO3-> Cl-> SO42-> PO42-> NO3-, respectively. Principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA) techniques were applied to assess the influence of pollution levels and their controlling mechanism. PCA showed 79.89 % of the cumulative variance with > 1.26 Eigenvalue. Similarly, CA showed that Jingale Lake (in cluster 2) sites were less polluted than other sampling sites. Piper diagram concluded that there was a dominance of mixed water type belonging to Ca-Mg-Cl compared to Ca-HCO3. Furthermore, the Water Quality Index (WQI) value of the lakes in the study area was 27 indicating good water quality (slightly polluted).

Bu çalışmanın amacı hedonik ve faydacı tüketimin alışveriş alışkanlığının tüketicinin kuşağına bağlı olup olmadığını incelemektir. Tüketici davranışları kişilerin yaşadığı veya yetiştiği bölge, ekonomik durumu, sosyal çevresi, temel ihtiyaçları ya da moda gibi faktörlere göre değiştiği gibi yaş grubuna göre de değişmektedir. Faydacı tüketim de tüketiciler ürün, hizmet veya düşüncenin işlevsel somut özelliklerine odaklanırlar. Hedonik tüketimde ise tüketiciler ürün, hizmet veya düşüncenin oluşturmuş olduğu prestij, saygı görmek, beğenilmek gibi duygulara odaklanmaktadır. Araştırma da X ve Y kuşağına göre tüketicilerin hedonik ve faydacı tüketim davranışları incelenmekle birlikte arasında farklılık ortaya konacaktır. X kuşağı diye adlandırılan kuşak 1965-1980 tarihleri arasında doğanları kapsarken, Y kuşağı 1981-2000 yılları arasında doğanları kapsamaktadır. Bu iki kuşaktan sonra gelen Z kuşağı incelemeye alınmayacaktır. Araştırma Kastamonu ilinde yürütülmüş ve Kastamonu’da ikamet eden X ve Y kuşağı tüketicilere 8 adet demografik ve 20 adet 5’li likert ölçeği kullanılan sorular içeren 250 anket dağıtılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS 20 programı ile gerekli analizlere tabi tutulmuş ve bulgular elde edilmiştir.
