Biboutou, Armel. "Dynamiques d'urbanisation et risques écosystemiques dans la région de Libreville (Gabon)". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Paris Cité, 2022. http://www.theses.fr/2022UNIP7047.
Texto completoSince its creation in 1849, Libreville has experienced unplanned and uncoordinated urbanisation. Over the decades, this anarchic urbanisation has been accompanied by environmental imbalances and has subjected city dwellers to numerous ecosystem risks. This research focuses on anarchic urbanisation, its production universe and the resulting ecosystem risks. Questions that are not often addressed in Gabon are raised: how, by whom and why is anarchic urbanisation produced? What does this form of urban production reveal? To what extent does the production of anarchic urbanisation contribute to the increase in ecosystem risks? The answers are formulated along four lines. In the first axis, land use changes in the city were identified, characterised and analysed. Remote sensing and GIS tools were used to produce land use maps and risk maps. A second axis studies nature-society relations in Libreville, and highlights the perceptions of the city and nature, while identifying the benefits that the population derives from nature, and the ecosystemic risks to which the population is exposed. The urbanisation process underway in Libreville was characterised and analysed in a third axis. These last two axes are based on fieldwork using semi-directive interviews and life stories collected from local populations and actors. In the fourth section, a prospective view of Libreville was taken using land-use simulation maps. The results of this research show a rapid, significant and unstructured expansion of the urban area of Libreville and its surroundings, accompanied by significant deforestation of the region, mainly in the north. The dynamics observed in the city are the result of a vicious circle: anarchic land occupation, access to land by mutual agreement, land speculation, lack of land control by the state and laissez-faire, etc. These results show a widespread perception of nature degradation and conservation and protection practices by both city dwellers and decision-makers, a reduction in biodiversity and evidence of city-nature conflicts. The degradation and extensive deforestation of mangroves and the construction of houses are the main causes put forward by the respondents. Thus, changes in land use and impacts on nature lead to an increase in the ecosystem risks of flooding and coastal erosion, which are perceived differently according to age, location, professional status, etc. Continental erosion is very little perceived as a risk or a problem, despite mapping results showing exposed areas. As a co-production of local populations and actors, the various actors find an interest in uncontrolled urbanisation. Routines structure the co-production of space: precarious settlements, roads and tracks pave the way for urbanisation and deforestation, etc. A lack of synergy, conflicts of competence, insufficient decentralisation, financial mismanagement and excessive politics also mark this anarchic urbanisation. In a laissez-faire scenario, prospective land-use modelling shows a significant reduction in dense vegetation in protected areas. In a control scenario, on the other hand, it shows a conservation of almost all the protected areas. These situations, which provide information on the future of Libreville, raise questions about urban and environmental governance in Gabon. An attempt is therefore made to analyse the possibilities for change based on models of cities in Africa and the world, both on urban and environmental aspects

Texto completoEnergy companies are faced with the need to transform their business model to integrate environmental concerns and ensure an energy transition. According to the transitions literature, addressing the risks of this process requires innovative, long-term oriented approaches, as well as thoughtful and adaptive policy design. In this framework, the business ecosystem approach plays an important role in the discovery of new solutions during the energy transition. The main objective of this thesis is to examine the contribution of applying the ecosystem approach in reducing the underlying risks of this process. Through exhaustive in-depth interviews and literature reviews, extensive stakeholder engagement, and interrogation of the characteristics of energy actors in a range of contexts, the potential for the role of the emerging renewable energy ecosystem in reducing the risks of the energy transition is explored. The research conducted provides insight into the holistic nature of the relationship between energy actors and explores common barriers encountered such as social acceptability, market risks and stakeholder management. The results suggest that companies are aware of the potential of an emerging renewable energy ecosystem and that most companies view the ecosystem approach positively. Many characteristics of this potential ecosystem, which is in its nascent stage, were found in the current partnership strategies of the interviewed stakeholders. More broadly, a mapping of the emerging renewable energy ecosystem was presented

Texto completoThis research proposes an exploration of the works of reference of the Palo Alto' school thought andan immersion in the world of the practice of brief systemic intervention, which is the application -outside the therapeutic field - of the brief systemic therapy designed and developed by a group ofinterdisciplinary researchers from the 1960s in the United States. Brief systemic intervention isexperiencing an international reputation, and the largest public and private organizations employspecialists of this model to solve their communication problems. However, it is still not widelyapproved by professionals in sciences of information and communication (SIC). Articulated in twocomplementary parts (the first one is devoted to the theoretical foundations of the model, and thesecond one to its implementing rules within organizations), this study aims to stimulate the currentreflections about the place given in the SIC to this communication problems solving model withinorganizations and the role that it could play in the prevention of psychosocial risks and thecorporate social responsability

Texto completoEcotoxicity tests in ecosystemic conditions, such as those that can be performed in mesocosms, providea substantial ecological relevance. They permit to integrate complex inter-species interactions, interactionsbetween the organisms and the environmental conditions, and permit to assess perturbations witha systemic view. However, in return, these systems present a high variability that should be reduced, through experimental standardization or by identifying explicative factors, to better assess the differencebetween the outputs of the different treatments. In this thesis, we also focused on one species, of fish, the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus), considering that it is good indicator of the healthstatus of the experimental ecosystem. We suggest that is more appropriate to focus on an integrativespecies in parallel to a global analysis in the context of mesocosms studies. The goal of this thesis was thus to better understand sticklebacks population dynamics in INERIS mesocosmsto improve the experimental protocols and the data analysis in ecotoxicity studies. To achieve thisgoal, studies were performed to characterize life cycle traits and processes of the species ; an experimentalprotocol was proposed to perform mesocosms studies with a focus on fish population dynamics; the datafrom two years of mesocosms studies in control conditions permitted to better understand the confoundingfactors ; we applied the methodolgoy to assess the effects of bisphenol A (BPA) on fish populationdynamics with expsoure concentrations 0, 1, 10 and 100 μg/L BPA.We could describe and explain stickleback population dynamics divided by four periods: first a massiveabundance increase due to the first reproduction of the founders in the mesocosms; second an importantdecrease due to the saturation of the system ; third a short increase ; finaly a new drop due to the endof reproduction. For BPA, effects were observed both at individual and at population levels

Although, management strategies dealing with risk and uncertainty have become a critical issue over the past several years, solutions are still to be developed. However, how can one judge the severity of risk when the potential damage and its probability are unknown? This study develops a framework for analyzing risk management strategies in forest management planning. We delineated how these management strategies could address the risk to protect timber harvest against disruptions. We tested optimization and simulation model to estimate the impact of risk associated with fire in timber supply calculations in an ecosystem context in boreal zone of the province of Quebec, Canada. Since paying, an insurance premium appeared to produce better results than partitioning buffer stock, (chapter I). The rating of wood volume available to harvest as a function of its vulnerability to fire can be used to reduce the impacts of fire on timber supply (chapter II). This idea was extended to test the adaptability of partial cutting coupled with buffer stock and accounting for the uncertainty induced by fire and projected climate scenarios (chapter III). As there are different levels of risk and different levels of tolerance to risk, the study results have shown that the process of risk evaluation itself needs to be accepted in its degree of uncertainties and its severity. As far as the insurance is concerned, it looks like a good strategy, but find an insurance company that is interested enough to believe there are enough potential customers to pay the premiums to make a profit could be required. The results also reveal that a targeted strategy such as excluding vulnerable stands from timber supply or adaptation of silvicultural treatment such as partial cutting may greatly interesting when facing risk scenario. Although, we covered different forest management strategies in this thesis, important issues still need to be considered in order to improve the knowledge associated with risk of fire; especially the context in which it develops.

Texto completoLong ignored or denied, incidents of abuse are now regularly reported and recognized as commonplace in institutions catering for people with disabilities. It is widely recommended that staff should receive training in order to help prevent such abuse, and even that such training modules should now be made compulsory in initial training programmes for all staff working directly with residents. However, virtually nothing is said about the content of such courses, nor about the pedagogical approaches that should be adopted. This thesis analyses such a training program and its outcomes. The programme was conceived with a view to improving active prevention, taking into account the evolution of the concept of abuse, the need for prior work on representations of abuse and the option of an eco-systemic approach to the issue. In order to better understand outcomes, three distinct pedagogical approaches were included. The programme is proposed to social workers during the final year of their initial training. Our approach tests the hypothesis that changes in representations of what constitutes abuse and its factors of protection occur during the training course and may result in specific preventive action. It allows us to develop the methodological approaches needed to analyse such a training programme and also to make recommendations regarding the content and the adoption of appropriate pedagogical methods
