Resumen
The activation function plays an important role in training and improving performance in deep neural networks (dnn). The rectified linear unit (relu) function provides the necessary non-linear properties in the deep neural network (dnn). However, few papers sort out and compare various relu activation functions. Most of the paper focuses on the efficiency and accuracy of certain activation functions used by the model, but does not pay attention to the nature and differences of these activation functions. Therefore, this paper attempts to organize the RELU-function and derived function in this paper. And compared the accuracy of different relu functions (and its derivative functions) under the Mnist data set. From the experimental point of view, the relu function performs the best, and the selu and elu functions perform poorly.

Resumen
Humoral immunity has an important role during the maturation and development of the functional properties of spermatozoa. Spermatozoa may be exposed to antisperm antibodies in semen and in cervical, ovarian follicular and fallopian fluid. Antisperm antibodies can be complement-fixing or non-fixing and may affect the reproductive functions in a number of ways. Although the antisperm antibody alone can cause sperm agglutination, complement fixation is required for their immobilization. Therefore, the complement activation might be a “keystone” for the better understanding of “sperm humoral immunity” and some types of infertility. Recently, three cell surface molecules (CD molecules – CD46, CD55, CD59) present on many tissues in male and female reproductive tracts and gametes have been identified. These proteins belong to the family of complement regulatory proteins which could regulate the function of a complement system by cleavage of complement cascade in discrete sites of both activation ways (classical and alternative). In this review, the particular mechanisms of activity of complement regulatory proteins are presented as well as their function in a fertilization process and expression in human and animal tissues and organs.

Texto completo
Resumen
Products of biological processes are the dominant factor of soil structure formation in A horizons, while in B horizons their role is less expressed. Soil structure influences dominantly the structural domain of the pore system in bimodal soils thus affecting soil hydraulic functions. The form of soil hydraulic functions depends upon the pore size distribution and generally upon configuration of the soil pore system. We used the functions derived for the lognormal pore size distribution and modified them to bi-modal soils. The derived equations were tested by experimental data of catalogued soils. The procedure leads to the separation of two mutually different domains of structural and matrix pores. The value of the pressure head (potential) separating the two domains is not constant and varies in a broad range. For each domain we obtained its water retention function and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity function. The separation of hydraulic functions for the two domains is a key problem in the solution of preferential flow and in controlling lateral flow between the structural and matrix domains. Water retention function is fully physically based while the conductivity function still keeps fitting parameters, too. Their simple relationship to tortuosity and pores connectivity was not confirmed. Since they differ substantially for matrix and structural domains, we suppose that there exists a great difference in configuration of porous systems in structural and matrix domains. The use of uniform fitting conductivity parameters for the whole range of pores is not justifiable.

AbstractThe relationship between assistive technology for cognition (ATC) and cognitive function was examined using a systematic review. A literature search identified 89 publications reporting 91 studies of an ATC intervention in a clinical population. The WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used to categorize the cognitive domains being assisted and the tasks being performed. Results show that ATC have been used to effectively support cognitive functions relating to attention, calculation, emotion, experience of self, higher level cognitive functions (planning and time management) and memory. The review makes three contributions: (1) It reviews existing ATC in terms of cognitive function, thus providing a framework for ATC prescription on the basis of a profile of cognitive deficits, (2) it introduces a new classification of ATC based on cognitive function, and (3) it identifies areas for future ATC research and development. Resumen
The thymus, a primary lymphoid organ and the initial site for development of T cell immunological function, is morphologically similar across species. It is actually an epithelial organ in which its epithelial cells provide a framework containing T cells as well as smaller numbers of other lymphoid cells. A symbiotic interaction exists between the thymic microinvironment and developing T cells, and the specificity of T cell release into the systemic circulation is under thymic control. The thymic cortex in a young animal is heavily populated by developing T cells along with a smaller proportion of associated epithelial cells. Larger, more mature T cells are found in the medulla where epithelial and other cell types are more abundant. Understanding normal morphological features of the thymus and their perturbations provides a cornerstone to assessing immune system function.

Background: The use of erotic media is a controversial issue in the literature and for the general population. There seems to be no consensus on whether pornography use negatively impacts the sexual health. Aims: To raise the empirical and scientific bases of the impact of pornography consumption on human sexual function. Method: Systematic review of Pubmed, Scielo and BVS databases using the term 'pornography', restricted to clinical trials, case reports, incidence, prevalence, exploratory and risk factor studies. Excluded those who used pornography only as a tool to provoke sexual arousal in tests, those who did not describe the effects of using pornography itself, articles without available abstracts or not yet published and duplicated in the databases. Results: Of 24 resulting studies, only 15 crossed the two variables: 10 correlated pornography with better sexual function scores and 5 with worse. Conclusion: If pornography consumption has an impact on sexual function, it is positive, not negative. The pornographic market presents extremely serious problems, but the negative impact on people's sexual function is not one of them.

Resumen
AbstractThe aim of this review is to present and discuss the anatomy and physiology of crop in different avian species. The avian crop (ingluvies) present in most omnivorous and herbivorous bird species, plays a major role in feed storage and moistening, as well as functional barrier for pathogens through decreasing pH value by microbial fermentation. Moreover, recent data suggest that this gastrointestinal tract segment may play an important role in the regulation of the innate immune system of birds. In some avian species ingluvies secretes “crop milk” which provides high nutrients and energy content for nestlings growth. The crop has a crucial role in enhancing exogenous enzymes efficiency (for instance phytase and microbial amylase,β-glucanase), as well as the activity of bacteriocins. Thus, ingluvies may have a significant impact on bird performance and health status during all stages of rearing. Efficient use of the crop in case of digesta retention time is essential for birds’ growth performance. Thus, a functionality of the crop is dependent on a number of factors, including age, dietary factors, infections as well as flock management. It is important to expand knowledge about the crop functions to use them effectively in poultry production. Furthermore, more scientific data is needed in the scope of immunological function of the crop as well as its microecosystem for a better understanding of the avian immune system and enhancing the health of the birds.

Resumen
The balance between fusion and division determines most of the functions of mitochondria, controls their bioenergetic function, mitochondrial turnover, and also protects mitochondrial DNA. The division promotes equal segregation of mitochondria into daughter cells during cell division itself and enhances the distribution of mitochondria along the cytoskeletal pathways. In addition, division can help isolate damaged mitochondrial segments and thus promote autophagy. Fusion provides protein complementation, and equal distribution of metabolites. The movement of mitochondria in the dendrites, axons and perikaryons of neurons is an important aspect of the vital activity of nerve cells. Disorders of mitochondrial fusion, division, and mobility can lead to defects in the functioning of the nervous system, which makes it important to study these processes for improvig methods of prevention, diagnosis, and correction of neurological diseases.

Spines are one of the most conspicuous organs of cacti, and are present even in the most basal species of the family. The aim of this review is to analyse the proven functions of spines, the number of species studied, their taxonomical (subfamily) and the geographic origin of studied species. We found a total of 24 studies that analyzed a total of five functions. A total of 39 species (around 2% of total diversity in the family) were studied. The most studied function was thermoregulation, where spines protect the stem from extreme temperatures, followed by antiherbivory defense. Others functions are water collection, dispersion and antiparasitism defense. Most of the studied species belong to the Cactoideae subfamily, ten to Opuntioideae subfamily and only one, to the Pereskioideae. There is also a bias to the study of species from North America, particularly Mexico and USA. The most studied species was Carnegiea gigantea that was the subject of 5 articles. Surprisingly, there are few studies that analyzed species in environmental gradients or that analyzed the effect of spine removal. These results indicate the necessity of further investigation that include species with different spinescence patterns and which rigorously test possible functions.

Resumen
Chronic intestinal inflammation, occurring in inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), is associated with compromised intestinal barrier function. Inflammatory cytokines disrupt tight junctions and increase paracellular permeability of luminal antigens. Thus, chronic intestinal barrier dysfunction hinders the resolution of inflammation. Dietary approaches may help mitigate intestinal barrier dysfunction and chronic inflammation. A growing body of work in rodent models of colitis has demonstrated that berry consumption inhibits chronic intestinal inflammation. Berries are a rich dietary source of polyphenolic compounds, particularly anthocyanins. However, berry anthocyanins have limited bioavailability and are extensively metabolized by the gut microbiota and host tissue. This review summarizes the literature regarding the beneficial functions of anthocyanin-rich berries in treating and preventing IBD. Here, we will establish the role of barrier function in the pathogenesis of IBD and how dietary anthocyanins and their known microbial catabolites modulate intestinal barrier function.

Khairuddin, Siti Hajar, Mohd Hilmi Hasan, Manzoor Ahmed Hashmani y Muhammad Hamza Azam. "Generating Clustering-Based Interval Fuzzy Type-2 Triangular and Trapezoidal Membership Functions: A Structured Literature Review". Symmetry 13, n.º 2 (31 de enero de 2021): 239. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/sym13020239.

Texto completo
Resumen
Clustering is more popular than the expert knowledge approach in Interval Fuzzy Type-2 membership function construction because it can construct membership function automatically with less time consumption. Most research proposed a two-fuzzifier fuzzy C-Means clustering method to construct Interval Fuzzy Type-2 membership function which mainly focused on producing Gaussian membership function. The other two important membership functions, triangular and trapezoidal, are constructed using the grid partitioning method. However, the method suffers a drawback of not being able to represent actual data composition in the underlying dataset. Some research proposed triangular and trapezoidal membership functions construction using readily formed Fuzzy Type-1 membership functions, which means it remains unclear how the membership functions are heuristically constructed using fuzzy C-Means outputs. The triangular and trapezoidal membership functions are important because previous works have shown that they may produce superior performance than Gaussian membership function in some applications. Therefore, this paper presents a structured literature review on generating triangular and trapezoidal Interval Fuzzy Type-2 membership functions using fuzzy C-Means. Initially, 110 related manuscripts were collected from Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar. These manuscripts went through the identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion processes, and as a result, 21 manuscripts were reviewed and discussed in this paper. To ensure that the review also covers the important components of fuzzy logic, this paper also reviews and discusses another 49 manuscripts on fuzzy calculation and operation. Furthermore, this paper also discusses the contributions of the conducted review to the body of knowledge, future research directions and challenges, with the aim to motivate the future works of constructing the methods to generate Interval Fuzzy Type-2 triangular and trapezoidal membership functions using fuzzy C-Means. The methods imply flexibility in choosing membership function type, hence increasing the effectiveness of fuzzy applications through leveraging the advantages that each of the three membership function types could provide.

The employment of the Debye function to model line profiles in the powder diffraction pattern from small crystallites is briefly reviewed. It is also demonstrated that for the case of very small spherical particles, it is necessary to average patterns from multiple constructions of the particle to have complete agreement with reciprocal space models. In doing so it is demonstrated that the technique of Debye function analysis is best suited for systems with only a few possible atomic arrangements.

Resumen
Exocrine pancreatic function tests (PFTs) remain of value in the diagnosis and assessment of chronic pancreatic disease. Direct intubation PFTs, using secretin/cholecystokinin or secretin/caerulein as the stimulants, continue to the the 'gold standard', although they are invasive, expensive and time consuming. Tubeless indirect tests, ie, the N-benzoyl-L-tyrosyl-para-aminobe-zoic acid and pancreolauryl tests, have gained increasing acceptance particularly as screening tests. The fecal measurement of chymotrypsin remains a useful screening test for pancreatic insufficiency and fecal fat testing standard for steatorrhea. Radioisotope tests are now outdated. Estimation of pancreatic markers in serum, urine and body fluids are useful when abnormal hut miss mild disease. Combining PFTs with imaging techniques provides a rational approach to early diagnosis and gives a better assessment of the patient with chronic pancreatic disease.

Resumen
Among the ~22,000 human genes, very few remain that have unknown functions. One such example is suprabasin (SBSN). Originally described as a component of the cornified envelope, the function of stratified epithelia-expressed SBSN is unknown. Both the lack of knowledge about the gene role under physiological conditions and the emerging link of SBSN to various human diseases, including cancer, attract research interest. The association of SBSN expression with poor prognosis of patients suffering from oesophageal carcinoma, glioblastoma multiforme, and myelodysplastic syndromes suggests that SBSN may play a role in human tumourigenesis. Three SBSN isoforms code for the secreted proteins with putative function as signalling molecules, yet with poorly described effects. In this first review about SBSN, we summarised the current knowledge accumulated since its original description, and we discuss the potential mechanisms and roles of SBSN in both physiology and pathology.

Resumen
This review focuses on understanding the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of bone tissue and reviews current knowledge of its physiology. It explores how these features intricately collaborate to maintain the balance between osteoblast-mediated bone formation and osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, which plays a pivotal role in shaping not only our physical framework but also overall health. In this work, a comprehensive exploration of microscopic and macroscopic features of bone tissue is presented.
