Resumen
The activation function plays an important role in training and improving performance in deep neural networks (dnn). The rectified linear unit (relu) function provides the necessary non-linear properties in the deep neural network (dnn). However, few papers sort out and compare various relu activation functions. Most of the paper focuses on the efficiency and accuracy of certain activation functions used by the model, but does not pay attention to the nature and differences of these activation functions. Therefore, this paper attempts to organize the RELU-function and derived function in this paper. And compared the accuracy of different relu functions (and its derivative functions) under the Mnist data set. From the experimental point of view, the relu function performs the best, and the selu and elu functions perform poorly.

Resumen
Humoral immunity has an important role during the maturation and development of the functional properties of spermatozoa. Spermatozoa may be exposed to antisperm antibodies in semen and in cervical, ovarian follicular and fallopian fluid. Antisperm antibodies can be complement-fixing or non-fixing and may affect the reproductive functions in a number of ways. Although the antisperm antibody alone can cause sperm agglutination, complement fixation is required for their immobilization. Therefore, the complement activation might be a “keystone” for the better understanding of “sperm humoral immunity” and some types of infertility. Recently, three cell surface molecules (CD molecules – CD46, CD55, CD59) present on many tissues in male and female reproductive tracts and gametes have been identified. These proteins belong to the family of complement regulatory proteins which could regulate the function of a complement system by cleavage of complement cascade in discrete sites of both activation ways (classical and alternative). In this review, the particular mechanisms of activity of complement regulatory proteins are presented as well as their function in a fertilization process and expression in human and animal tissues and organs.

Resumen
Products of biological processes are the dominant factor of soil structure formation in A horizons, while in B horizons their role is less expressed. Soil structure influences dominantly the structural domain of the pore system in bimodal soils thus affecting soil hydraulic functions. The form of soil hydraulic functions depends upon the pore size distribution and generally upon configuration of the soil pore system. We used the functions derived for the lognormal pore size distribution and modified them to bi-modal soils. The derived equations were tested by experimental data of catalogued soils. The procedure leads to the separation of two mutually different domains of structural and matrix pores. The value of the pressure head (potential) separating the two domains is not constant and varies in a broad range. For each domain we obtained its water retention function and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity function. The separation of hydraulic functions for the two domains is a key problem in the solution of preferential flow and in controlling lateral flow between the structural and matrix domains. Water retention function is fully physically based while the conductivity function still keeps fitting parameters, too. Their simple relationship to tortuosity and pores connectivity was not confirmed. Since they differ substantially for matrix and structural domains, we suppose that there exists a great difference in configuration of porous systems in structural and matrix domains. The use of uniform fitting conductivity parameters for the whole range of pores is not justifiable.

Resumen
Background: Pregnancy is a process characterized by intense physical, biological, psychological and social changes. Aims: To describe and discuss the main impacts of pregnancy on female sexual function. Method: Narrative review from June to September 2022, in PubMed, Scielo and Lilacs electronic databases. The PICOT strategy "Does pregnancy have an impact on female sexual function?" descriptors were selected and cross-referenced in Portuguese and English, including clinical trials, prospective, cross-sectional, and retrospective descriptive studies, with a population of pregnant women aged between 18 and 45 years in any gestational period. Results: 11 studies were included; showed that pregnancy has a negative impact on female sexual function, with an increase in sexual dysfunction as gestational age increases, with a higher prevalence in the third trimester. The second trimester represents the peak of sexual function during pregnancy. Conclusion: Pregnancy is a factor that directly influences the appearance of sexual dysfunctions, with high prevalence and at higher levels in the third trimester of pregnancy.

Resumen
AbstractThe relationship between assistive technology for cognition (ATC) and cognitive function was examined using a systematic review. A literature search identified 89 publications reporting 91 studies of an ATC intervention in a clinical population. The WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used to categorize the cognitive domains being assisted and the tasks being performed. Results show that ATC have been used to effectively support cognitive functions relating to attention, calculation, emotion, experience of self, higher level cognitive functions (planning and time management) and memory. The review makes three contributions: (1) It reviews existing ATC in terms of cognitive function, thus providing a framework for ATC prescription on the basis of a profile of cognitive deficits, (2) it introduces a new classification of ATC based on cognitive function, and (3) it identifies areas for future ATC research and development. Resumen
The thymus, a primary lymphoid organ and the initial site for development of T cell immunological function, is morphologically similar across species. It is actually an epithelial organ in which its epithelial cells provide a framework containing T cells as well as smaller numbers of other lymphoid cells. A symbiotic interaction exists between the thymic microinvironment and developing T cells, and the specificity of T cell release into the systemic circulation is under thymic control. The thymic cortex in a young animal is heavily populated by developing T cells along with a smaller proportion of associated epithelial cells. Larger, more mature T cells are found in the medulla where epithelial and other cell types are more abundant. Understanding normal morphological features of the thymus and their perturbations provides a cornerstone to assessing immune system function.

Resumen
Background: The use of erotic media is a controversial issue in the literature and for the general population. There seems to be no consensus on whether pornography use negatively impacts the sexual health. Aims: To raise the empirical and scientific bases of the impact of pornography consumption on human sexual function. Method: Systematic review of Pubmed, Scielo and BVS databases using the term 'pornography', restricted to clinical trials, case reports, incidence, prevalence, exploratory and risk factor studies. Excluded those who used pornography only as a tool to provoke sexual arousal in tests, those who did not describe the effects of using pornography itself, articles without available abstracts or not yet published and duplicated in the databases. Results: Of 24 resulting studies, only 15 crossed the two variables: 10 correlated pornography with better sexual function scores and 5 with worse. Conclusion: If pornography consumption has an impact on sexual function, it is positive, not negative. The pornographic market presents extremely serious problems, but the negative impact on people's sexual function is not one of them.

Sauls, Paul Anthony. "The review function of the labour court". Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/821.

Resumen
Under the 1956 Labour relations Act, parties who were dissatisfied with decisions of the then Industrial Court, could appeal to the old Labour Appeal Court, and then if still further unhappiness persists, to the former Appellate Division. Such appeals entailed placing before the court the complete record of the Industrial Court, and requesting it to decide if on the evidence, it would have come to the same conclusion. Sometimes the courts of appeal decide that they would, sometimes that they would not. When planning the new Labour Relations Act 66 of 1995, the Cheadle Commission decided that this process was too slow, too technical, too cumbersome and too expansive. So it recommended that, at least in the case of the most common disputes, the issues should be decided quickly, informally and finally by arbitration. Unless the parties agree to private arbitration under the Arbitration Act, 42 of 1956, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation & Arbitration (CCMA) would supply the arbitrators, who would exercise their powers, not under agreed terms of reference, but under the LRA itself. Like private arbitrators, those of the CCMA are also meant to dispose of matters with a minimum of legal formalities (see section 138(1) of the LRA). But the drafters of the LRA did not mean to insulate arbitration awards entirely from the watchful eye of the Labour Court. They therefore specifically provided for review of CCMA arbitrations awards in section 145, but they also gave general powers of review in section 158(1)(g) respectively of the LRA. As if the jurisdictional puzzle created by the LRA was not complex enough, the legislature added the Promotion of Justice Act 3 of 2000. It is an attempt to give expression to the constitutional right of fair labour practices and the constitutional standard of lawfulness and rationality. If section 145 limits the grounds on which commissioners’ actions can be reviewed, or if that section cannot be interpreted to reconcile it with the PAJA, it may well be that section 145 cannot pass constitutional muster - unless that section constitutes a limitation compliant with section 36 of the Constitution. That would be for the Constitutional court to decide.

Resumen
Objective: To investigate the association of sleep duration with cognitive function in adults. Methods and Results: Relevant studies were searched through PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar using keywords of ((“cognitive” OR “cognition” OR “memory impairment”) AND (“sleep duration” OR “sleep hours” OR “sleep time”)). Studies on the association of sleep duration with cognitive function as measured by various cognitive assessment tools in adults aged 18+ years were included. The initiate search generates 415 articles, after excluding studies that were duplicates, not published in English journals and not conducted in adults, giving 10 to be included in this systematic review. These studies were conducted in 6 countries (US, China, France, Spain, England, and Finland) and most of them were cross-sectional studies (7 cross-sectional studies and 3 prospective studies). Most of the studies showed that participants with either long sleep duration (≥ 9 h per day) or short sleep duration (≤ 6 h per day) had higher risks of cognitive impairment than participants with sleep hours of about 7 hour per day. One study showed that short, but not long sleep duration was associated with poor cognitive function while four studies showed that only long sleep duration was associated with poor cognitive function. Some sleep-related factors such as sleep disorder breathing, excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep quality and sleep cycle may partly explain the association of sleep duration with cognitive functions. Conclusion: Most of the earlier studies consistently showed that both long (≥ 9 h per day) and short (≤ 6 h per day) sleep duration were associated with poor cognitive function. These findings provide evidence support for further intervention studies to examine the potential beneficial effect of normalizing sleep duration in preventing cognitive decline.

Texto completo
Resumen
ABSTRACT Background: Neck pain may influence jaw motor function. If so it would add to a growing body of evidence indicating the need for a more multidisciplinary care of affected patients. The aim of this systematic review was to review the current literature on this subject. Methods: A systematic literature search of the PubMed, Cochrane and Web of Science databases was carried out on September 20th, 2017. Included were studies with jaw motor function measurements, human participants ≥ 16 years old, with unspecified or experimental neck pain and without temporomandibular disorder (TMD) or tooth pain. Results: Of the 1701 initially identified articles, 32 were assessed in full text by two reviewers. Out of seven eligible articles, six were included after a risk of bias assessment. Two studies were contradictory on the effect of neck pain on maximal mouth opening. For maximal voluntary jaw clenching by individuals with/without neck pain, two studies showed no significant difference in force produced, and one study no significant difference in masseter muscle activity. One study showed a facilitated masseter stretch reflex in patients with neck pain. Conclusion: This systematic review shows how unexplored this field of research still is with a limited number of studies available. No firm conclusions could be drawn. Based on the included studies, neck pain seems to affect the jaw stretch reflex, but not the ability of the jaw muscles to produce force. Further research is warranted in the field of how neck pain may influence jaw motor function.

Resumen
This study applies a test for subadditivity (natural monopoly) to Australian telecommunications industry data for the period 1954 to 1990. If an industry exhibits subadditive cost, a monopoly can provide total industry output at a lower cost than multiple firms. The test for subadditivity is dependent on econometric estimation of a theoretically valid cost function. The cost function employed in this study is a multiple output variation of the symmetric generalised McFadden cost function. The main advantage of this specification is the ability to impose concavity on the cost function with respect to the input prices without imposing a priori restrictions on the input substitution elasticities. While there have been numerous previous subadditivity studies, this study is novel in two respects. First, this study contains the results of a direct test involving the provision of data carriage services provided by Australias monopoly carrier from 1970 to 1990. Thus, the test for subadditivity is applied to a relatively new service at a time when demand is in its infancy. Second, the approach to modelling makes explicit allowance for radical technological changes and lags in adjustment. The results indicate cost complementarity between data-aggregate output and large economies of scale. However, these effects are not strong enough to guarantee subadditivity. Analysis suggests that the most likely cause of subadditivity is the extent of network duplication between competitors. Evidence of subadditivity is found for firms that duplicate more than 30% of the networks fixed cost. This implies that at the national level, competition policy is the right choice. This suggests that regulated competition is likely to be no more costly than monopoly.

Resumen

This study is a thesis for the Master of Science degree in Media Technology and Engineering at the Department of Science and Technology, Linkoping University. It was accomplished from November 2002 to May 2003.

Objective image quality measures play an important role in various image processing applications. In this paper quality measures applied on halftoned images are aimed to be in focus. Digital halftoning is the process of generating a pattern of binary pixels that create the illusion of a continuous- tone image. Algorithms built on this technique produce results of very different quality and characteristics. To evaluate and improve their performance, it is important to have robust and reliable image quality measures. This literature survey is to give a general description in digital halftoning and halftone image quality methods.

Resumen
AbstractThe physiology and morphology of insects largely explain the immense adaptability of these organisms to forest ecosystems. This chapter presents an opportunity to review the basics of insect development, the morphology of the different stages and the organ systems that comprise them. The broad categories immature stages and developmental trajectories toward the adult are summarized. Important physiological systems involved in insect behavior such as sensory organs, the nervous system and locomotion are also reviewed. Concise reviews of digestion, immunity and reproduction provide the reader with a basic understanding of how insects interact with their hosts and pathogens and propagate. Together, these topics should convey the fundamental importance of insect form and function in forest entomology.

Resumen
Review question / Objective: Is there an association between masticatory function and cognitive function in adults? Condition being studied: The masticatory function is the ability and efficiency of chewing, the human being performs movements of the orofacial muscles which we call chewing and cognitive function is a set of actions where verbal and non-verbal activities are exercised, they are evaluated by means of objective or subjective tests or questionnaires. Information sources: The MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, Scopus and SciELO will be searched by two independent reviewers. The search will be performed without restrictions on dates or language and included those conducted in human subjects.

Resumen
Review question / Objective: To identify empirical studies that measured the feasibility and effect of computer-based executive function stimulation and rehabilitation programs in the young and middle adult population. Background: Reviews that evaluate the effectiveness of computerized cognitive training programs on executive functions in different population groups have shown contradictory results, to a certain extent associated with the methodological characteristics of said studies (Gates et al., 2019; 2020); most of them These reviews have focused on older adults (Ten Brinke et al., 2020; Yoo et al., 2015) with stroke sequelae, and adults with cognitive impairment. These studies have found improvements in general cognitive function in older adults (Ten Brinke et al., 2020); however, the effect on executive functions have not been studied. Only one review was carried out on the average adult (Gates et al., 2019); the authors restricted the search to interventions with more than 12 weeks and only found one article with eligibility criteria. Their work concluded that computerized cognitive training in midlife demonstrated lasting effects on general cognitive function after 12 weeks of training and on memory after 24 weeks of training.

Quick, Stephen A. OVE's Proposal for Integrating Evaluability Review into the Bank's Quality Control Function. Inter-American Development Bank, marzo de 2011. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0010450.

Texto completo
Resumen
The objective of this proposal is to achieve a revised set of reliable evaluability standards to be applied to IDB's projects prior to approval. The proposal is based on the premise that the revision of the means by which the IDB ensures minimum evaluability entails changes not only to the evaluability guidelines but also to the IDB's norms that govern the preparation and review of projects. The proposal to integrate the evaluability review into the IDB's quality control function entails: (1) adopting and implementing evaluability guidelines; (2) introducing an Evaluability Assessment Note to be included with the Proposal for Operation Development package; (3) adopting a clear, reliable and meaningful evaluability rating; (4) clarifying the assignment of responsibility in the assessment of evaluability; (5) revising the normative establishing the content of the Proposal for Operation Development; and (6) implementing country-led evaluability in project preparation on an experimental basis.

Selph, Shelley S., Andrea C. Skelly, Rebecca M. Jungbauer, Erika Brodt, Ian Blazina, Travis C. Philipp, Kimberly M. Mauer et al. Cervical Degenerative Disease Treatment: A Systematic Review. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), noviembre de 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.23970/ahrqepccer266.

Texto completo
Resumen
Objectives. Cervical degenerative disease (CDD) is common, becomes more prevalent with age, and is managed with surgical and nonoperative treatments to alleviate pain, improve function, and prevent progression or recurrence. This systematic review summarizes the evidence on treatments for CDD. Data sources. We searched Ovid MEDLINE®, Embase®, and Cochrane CENTRAL from 1980 to February 15, 2023; reference lists; and clinical trial registries. Review methods. Predefined criteria were used to identify studies; prespecified methods were used to assess study quality and strength of evidence for key outcomes. Effects were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively where appropriate. Results. We included 57 randomized controlled trials, 56 nonrandomized studies, and 1 systematic review. Studies enrolled patients with radiculopathy and/or myelopathy with disease at one or more levels. A variety of surgical approaches were used; there were few comparative studies of nonoperative treatments. Most studies were rated moderate risk of bias, while the majority of evidence was rated low or insufficient strength to draw conclusions on comparative benefits and harms. Cervical arthroplasty versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF): In single-level disease, there were no important differences between cervical arthroplasty and ACDF in pain or function. Cervical arthroplasty was associated with a lower likelihood of reoperation and slightly lower likelihood of any serious adverse event (SAE) in the short term, with no difference between cervical arthroplasty and ACDF in SAEs longer term. In patients with 2-level disease, pain, function, and likelihood of reoperation at the index level were similar, but the likelihood of an adverse event was slightly lower at 24 months with cervical arthroplasty, with no difference at 120 months. Anterior versus posterior approach: There was no difference between these approaches in pain, function, quality of life, and reoperation in patients with fewer than three operated levels. Limited evidence suggests that a posterior approach is associated with a greater likelihood of experiencing any SAE in patients with procedures at three or more levels. Standalone cage versus plate and cage in ACDF: Fusion rates were similar between standalone cage versus plate and cage; there were no differences between treatments in postoperative arm pain, function, quality of life, or adjacent-level ossification. Laminoplasty versus laminectomy and fusion. There was little difference between surgical techniques in postoperative function, but the risk of experiencing a complication was lower with laminoplasty, with no difference in reoperation rates. Conclusions. There were few differences in benefits between surgical approaches and techniques for the treatment of CDD. However, there were some differences in the frequency of adverse events for some comparisons.
