Texto completoThrough the analysis of literary, iconographic, numismatic and epigraphic sources, the thesis studies the particular form of political communication that the leaders of Rome developed by employing mythical figures, like gods and heroes, between the Ides of March 44 B.C. and the Augustan age. In particular, the research is about mythological assimilations and legendary genealogies used by Octavian, Mark Antony, Lepidus and Sextus Pompeius in order to spread throughout the citizens symbolic and propagandistic suggestions aiming at upholding their political designs.

Texto completoThe Augustan VI Regio of Rome is one of the most urban areas hit by man-made radical changes in the process of urbanization of the city that have fundamentally altered the situation altitude and the original conformation. These remarkable changes originated from the age old but deeply intensified especially during the Renaissance when starting Pius IV and above with Sixtus V, active in many other areas of the city, developed numerous works of urban renewal that they recorded significantly on face and on the characteristics of the area. Since the Renaissance up to the large-scale excavations in the late 1800s around the neighborhood began to "populate" to many buildings of great size that went to undermine completely the vestiges of the ancient period: the construction of the Palazzo del Quirinale and the various palaces but especially the construction of numerous ministries and the first station Termini to the 800 behaved numerous eventrations without the production of a proper documentation of investigations of excavation. This research aims to reconstruct, in a diachronic way, the topography of one of the central districts of ancient Rome through the analysis of the main phenomena that characterize the evolution of the urban fabric both in terms of public buildings especially private ones. In fact, the main result that emerges from this research is that regional configuring, starting as early as the late Republican period, as a vocation mainly residential district, inhabited mainly by the high aristocracy belonging to the highest offices of the Roman state; as well domus and insulae, on the Quirinal, were built along the course of the republican age some of the oldest temples of the city with their size of the space occupied hill until Late Antiquity, representing a macroscopic and constant presence overall size of the space center.

Texto completoThe research focused on biconical and cylindrical roman republican lamps, in order to systematize types and regional variations, by the creation of two different tree diagrams. This typology considers the morphological aspects as well as the production centers, chronology, the area and the dynamics of distribution of each type or variant identified. The analysis of published lamps and the study of some unpublished findings allowed to catalogue the archaeological contexts in which these types of lamps were common.

Texto completoThe main subject is the analysis of Roman diplomatic acts stipulated during the Roman conquest of Italy. These acts are mainly foedera, paces, societates and amicitiae, with their Greek equivalents. Starting from the systematic analysis of diplomatic acts, I have argued that Roman diplomatic action led to the conquest of Italy as much as military action. Moreover, Roman diplomatic action in the Italian political landscape was different from other powers; subsequently, Roman diplomatic acts (as far as we can notice) were much elaborated. Finally, many sources thought to be incoherent acquire sense if they are read within a diplomatic analysis. My conclusions concern Roman geopolitical and diplomatic strategy between the IV and III centuries BC. The Romans used diplomacy as a tool of conquest. They were sophisticated in redacting diplomatic acts, carefully choosing clauses and words, and they used them to promote Roman presence among other Italic peoples, widening their diplomatic horizon. With diplomacy, the Romans took contact with many political presences among Italic and Italiote peoples; they made peace, moving onto other wars; they provoked useful wars for them; they made alliances that provided also military enlargements for the Roman army; they colonized territories; they carefully kept an eye on the powers that were not yet under their dominion.
