Texto completoThe first part of this work relates to the design and implementation of a programmable Finite Impulse Response Digital to Analog Converter (FIRDAC). The programmability is in the filter's order (N-1) and its coefficients. The proposed FIRDAC is capable of providing an order up to 62 and a ratio between maximum to minimum coefficient up to 159. This allowed the filter to provide up to 100dB of attenuation and a wide range of normalized transition-band (>0.0156). The FIRDAC filter has been designed and implemented in 65nm CMOS with total active area 0.867mm2. The FIRDAC can operate up to 2.56 GHz of sampling frequency at an average power consumption of 9mW. For a single tone input, the FIRDAC filter managed to provide an SNR up to 67.3dB and a SFDR of 72dBc. The FIRDAC filter was tested with different modulation techniques: OFDM, 16-QAM OFDM and 64-QAM OFDM having different channel Bandwidth. The circuit achieved an Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) of 2.66%, 1.9% and 2.29% respectively, complying with the LTE and the 802.11ac standards. The second part of this work relates to the design of a programmable RF front-end circuit. The RF front-end is composed of an analog RF mixer, a programmable Pre-Power Amplifier (PPA) and a tunable LC tank. The whole RF front-end introduced a total programmable gain of 23dB with a gain step of 1.53dB operating in the 1.5GHz - 5GHz frequency range. The maximum output RF power is -11dBm with a power consumption of 23mW. Simulation result showed a maximum SFDR of -61.95dBc for two tones at a carrier frequency of 4GHz. While for a 16-QAM OFDM signal, the obtained EVM was 4.76%

Texto completoThe present PhD work covers the study, design and demonstration of all-digital transmitters targeting advanced communication standards for mobile applications in the frame of the Internet of Things (IoT). Key innovations are time-interleaved Delta-Sigma modulators (DSM) and a power and area-efficient switched-capacitor (SC) finite impulse response power amplifier (FIR-PA). The common FIR-PA block uses exclusively inverters and capacitors in a switched-capacitor configuration, thus being fully compatible with advanced CMOS technology nodes. The prototype is integrated in 28nm FD‐SOI CMOS technology with 10 metal layers and body biasing fine-tuning features. The proposed digital RF transmitter achieves 13.5 in‐band effective number of bits and is 900 MHz LTE‐compliant. The overall power consumption is 35 mW at 2.9 dBm peak output power and 1V supply. With respect to relevant state-of-the art, at similar output power levels, the FIR‐PA consumes 7 times less than a 10‐bit DSM‐based DAC and 25% less than a 12‐bit resistive DAC. The total active area is 0.047 mm2, at least 4 times lower than the smallest previously published work. Consequently, this work stands out for low power consumption thanks to the single-bit core solution combined with band filtering and low area achieved with a multi-layer FIR-PA cell structure. It demonstrates the transition from traditional analog to highly integrated digital-intensive transmitters targeting the future of mobile applications

Texto completoThe main objective of our study is to develop fast algorithms for an optimal design and an implementation with low complexity of digital filters. The optimization criterion is the mean squared error at the filter output. Thus, we have studied and developed new algorithms for synthesis of finite impulse response (FIR) filters related to the two techniques of block filtering, overlap-save (OLS) and overlap-add (OLA). These two filtering techniques consist in processing the signal by blocks and use the fast Fourier transform (FFT) to reduce the complexity of the convolution calculation. Our algorithms, based on the matrix model development of the OLA and OLS structures, use the linear algebra properties, especially those of circulant matrices. To further reduce the complexity and the distortion, we have looked further into the mathematical foundations of the Fermat Number Transform (FNT). This transform is a particular case of the Number Theoretic Transforms (NTT) defined in the Galois field. Compared to the FFT, the FNT allows a calculation without rounding error and a large reduction of the number of multiplications necessary to carry out the convolution product. To highlight this transform, we have proposed and studied a new design of OLS and OLA filtering using the FNT. We have developed a low complexity algorithm for the optimal synthesis of filters using the properties of circulant matrices that we have developed in the Galois field. The simulation results of the block filtering with fixed-point implementation have shown that the use of the FNT instead of the FFT reduces the complexity and the filtering errors, as well as the cost of optimal filter synthesis
