Resumen
The third and last instalment of the Firenze University Press work devoted to the reconstruction of road accidents, this book is an important complement to the two previous volumes by Dario Vangi and Virginio Rivano. Consisting of original contributions written by experts in each individual sector, the work explores the legal aspect of road accidents, consultancy and the rules of behaviour and then x-rays all the aspects relating to the road (from risk factors to containment devices), the driver (from reaction times to forensic medicine) and, finally, the vehicle (from safety systems to causes of fire and techniques of repair and estimates).

Resumen
The extent to which member states still enjoy the autonomy to regulate their society and economy ultimately depends on the way the Court interprets the constraints of the Treaty. As a consequence, the domestic impact of the EU goes beyond the implementation of European secondary law, which Europeanization research focuses on. European case law should take immediate effect in the member states, but the literature in this area expects member states to contain compliance. Chapter 6 contrasts two case studies for markedly different member-state reactions to case law: the German reaction to the Meilicke tax cases and the Irish reaction to the Zambrano case. While the Meilicke case confirms that case law does not generally have a direct impact at the member-state level, the implementation of the Zambrano case by Ireland and other member states shows that member states also implement EU case law in a rule-of-law fashion.

Riley, Peter. The role of the microbiology laboratory in antimicrobial stewardship. Oxford University Press, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780198758792.003.0010.

Texto completo
Resumen
Microbiology laboratories play an important role in antimicrobial stewardship at the level of individual patients and the population as a whole. When empiric therapy has been started, rapid results can lead to earlier targeted treatment. Accumulated results of susceptibility tests can be analysed and used to generate local or national guidelines on empiric treatment and prophylaxis. Several methods can be used to determine microbial identity and antimicrobial susceptibility, including traditional culture-based methods and newer molecular methods such as matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and whole-genome sequencing. These methods and potential advantages are reviewed. Before results are reported, expert rules are applied and results edited. At this point the laboratory can influence prescribing practices.

Tom, Grant y Brent Richard. Part I The International Law of Tainted Money, 1 General Introduction: Some Problems Relating to the Role of International Law. Oxford University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/law/9780198716587.003.0001.

Resumen
This book is concerned with the emergence of an international law of money laundering. The Introduction explains that a re-ordering of international monetary relations after World War II necessitated new approaches to the law of money in general. Epochal changes in monetary relations across borders have resulted in review and revision of the rules of international law concerned with money, and, accordingly, governments, legislatures, courts, and commentators have needed to re-visit those rules occasionally. The international law of money laundering has mostly been grafted upon the world’s monetary system; it has not involved the creation of a completely new system. However, the Introduction argues, it has had a significant impact. The impetus that has led states and international organizations to adopt money laundering rules at the international level is a reaction to a threat, or series of threats, originating largely outside the system. These threats include: organized crime on an international and macro-economic scale; terrorism; and the need to change the conduct of some states. This book as a whole presents an account of international law in its present evolving state in the field of tainted money. The chapters herein aim to address the law as it currently is; and close with a look at where the future of money might take us and those who aim to regulate its misuse.

Resumen
To get a sense of the institutional variation across the three countries and six regions, this chapter discusses the electoral rules, regime types, and party systems in the given cases. The party systems vary in the extent to which they are nationalized, with some countries having important differences at the subnational level, such as regional parties that compete in a single region, and other countries having party systems that look similar across multiple arenas. To put the elections studied in context, the chapter also discusses the political and economic situation facing citizens of the different regions during the period under analysis. The analyses cover a period of financial stress in these countries, though variation is seen in how much different countries, and regions within countries, suffered from the global financial crisis that began shortly before the study. Parties and voters are expected to vary accordingly in their reaction to the crisis.
