A basic information carrier in the course of many decades is a package of technological documentation allowing the support of the product correspondence to the requirements specified. For quality continuous improvement it is offered to consider a life term of each machine part as a continuous flow of technologies. A hierarchical structure of technologies (technological routes and operations) is substantiated. As a result a possibility arises to adjust tracing the information on parts quality during their manufacturing and assemblage, in motor car application and also at preparation for utilization.

Resumen
At the present stage of the developed society, the attention of scientists and practitioners to the analysis of the digital society has increased. This is evidenced by the appearance of various publications in line with this issue; the formation and implementation of regulatory documents, for example, the Strategy for the Development of the Information Society in the Russian Federation for 2017–2030. In this regard, it becomes relevant to analyze a new model of the quality of life, a digital one, as one of the results of the development of a digital society. The methodological basis of the research is the concepts of the representatives of post industrialism D. Bell, P. Drucker, G. Galbraith, E. Toffl er about the role of theoretical knowledge and technology in ensuring the quality of life as determinants of all processes occurring in societies, as well as the ideas of the members of the Club of Rome, who created models of life quality and determined the ways to ensure it in relation to developing countries. This article analyzes individual models of digital society as social practices, which showed that the main trend of their development should be a new quality of digital life, generated by the digital environment and forming new technologies, communications, interaction mechanisms. A certain concept of “digital model of quality of life” is a refl ection of the processes of digitization of everyday life and professional activity of a new subject of public life. We revealed that new interactions arise in the digital model of quality of life: knowledge that creates new technologies is the determining and producing resource for all benefi ts; the introduction of these technologies ensures the development of the digital economy, which forms the need for new mechanisms that determine the evolution of society and man, as the subject of these trends which education should form. The digital model of the quality of life is studied from the standpoint of objectivism and subjectivism. The research materials can be used in assessing trends in the development of modern digital society, identifying the prospects for the development of society in the conditions of digitalization, in making forecasts of the future development of mankind.

AbstractSurgery for rectal cancer has been completely revolutionized thanks to the adoption of new technologies and up-to-date surgical procedures that have been applied to the traditional milestone represented by Total Mesorectal Excision (TME).The multimodal and multidisciplinary approach, with new technologies increased the patients’ life expectancies; nevertheless, they have placed the surgeon in front of newer issues, represented by both oncological outcomes and the patients’ need of a less destructive surgery and improved quality of life.In this review we will go through laparoscopic, robotic and transanal TME surgery, to show how the correct choice of the most appropriate technique, together with a deep knowledge of oncological principles and pelvic anatomy, is crucial to pursue an optimal cancer treatment. Novel technologies might also help to decrease the patients’ fear of surgery and address important issues such as cosmesis and improved preservation of postoperative functionality.

Resumen
Once in a while, new innovations emerge in the world of restorative dentistry. The emergence of new bonding agents, dental liners and bases, and adaptive capabilities of components offer new opportunities. Dental liner materials have improved tremendously over the last few years. They are applied in a thin layer to seal the walls of the cavity or minimize the influx of bacteria following restorative procedures. On the other hand, dental bases are applied in thick layers and support a restorative material during the placement as well as function. The dental liners and bases are widely used to improve the outcome of dental caries treatment and several dental restoration procedures. Apart from this, dental technology has improved a lot over the last few years and will continue to advance the field and benefit patients and healthcare professionals alike. While Covid-19 presented various uncertainties during the pandemic, it is safe to say that the pandemic increased patient awareness about safety measures and sanitation, which will boost the demand for dental technologies. Here are some of the dental technologies which will be a big hit in the coming years.

Resumen
In recent years a number of commentators have discussed the importance of measuring quality of life (QL) in health care. We want to know whether an intervention will help people to live better, not just longer, and whether some treatments cause more trouble than they are worth. New technologies promise wondrous benefits. But when millions of people have no insured access to health care, and when many others face increasingly stringent limits on care, technologies’ high costs require us to choose what we should do from the broader universe of what we can do.The challenges to measuring QL are formidable. Researchers debate whether to measure general QL or disease-specific QL; whether to focus on functional status such as the patient's ability to walk and dress himself, or on the value people ascribe to that functional status; whether to seek the values of the general public, or to concentrate on people actually affected by a given disease or disability.

Resumen
The main aims of this paper are to examine the technological trajectories of city innovation, to provide a picture of the current state in the most significant technologies, and to propose an explanation for the long-run evolutionary trajectories of technological developments that contribute to the quality of urban life through innovation. In the conceptual part of the paper, we develop the argument that the explanation may rest on the interrelationships between the concept of urban transformative capacity and the theory of path dependence. In the empirical part, we analyze patent data on city-related innovations to examine the trajectories of technological developments over the period 1980–2020. Our main findings at a technological field level (i) confirm the path dependence theory in general and the institutional approach in particular, (ii) acknowledge the rapid transformation towards ‘smart cities’ through the explosive growth of digital technologies, and (iii) confirm the environmental sustainability concerns when developing new technologies. In our study, we focus particularly on the technological sectors (‘clusters’) that provide a significant contribution to quality of urban life, namely environment, public services, and leisure and participation. Our findings provide theoretical, managerial, and policy implications for future research activities on the technological developments that benefit quality of urban life.

Resumen
The Internet of things (IoT) is revolutionizing several industries with unprecedented possibilities and opportunities. One of the industries that has a critical direct impact on humans, is the healthcare industry. While IoT technologies can be seen in medical supply chains within the healthcare sector, however, IoT technologies are still not widely adopted in other areas and services within the healthcare sector. The number of patients living with diabetes has increased drastically over the past four decades and is expected to increase even more over the next ones. The disease currently has no cure, and if the patients are not monitored and get the right treatment at the right time, it might end a patient’s life. The IoT is said to be a game-changer for the healthcare industry and the aim of this paper is to review and investigate how IoT technologies and solutions can improve the quality of life and aid the people living with the chronic disease. Our findings suggest that IoT can aid in patient monitoring, including the continuous glucose monitoring, and also can assist in providing a healthier lifestyle for patients through activity and diet tracking. In addition, we have identified key challenges for IoT adoptions and implementations in healthcare within the scope of this research.

Resumen
The World Economic Forum stated that while digitalization caused a rapid productivity growth, it has also had its disadvantages. Can digitalization be the catalyst of economic development? Our hypothesis contributes to the debate that the higher the level of digital development in a given country, the greater the quality of life and purchasing power it can achieve due to the benefits of various digital technologies. In our research, we investigated the relationship between the Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI), the Quality of Life Index (QLI) and the Purchasing Power Index (PPI) among the EU countries from 2014 to 2019. We acquired datasets from Eurostat and Numbeo and examined correlations between indices. We found a strong positive relationship between the level of digitalization, the quality of life, and the purchasing power.

Resumen
Objectives: The headroom method was introduced for the very early evaluation of the potential value of new technologies. It allows for establishing a ceiling price for technologies to still be cost-effective by combining the maximum effect a technology might yield, the maximum willingness-to-pay (WTP) for this effect, and potential downstream expenses and savings. Although the headroom method is QALY-based, not all innovations are expected to result in QALY gain. Methods: This study explores the feasibility and usefulness of the headroom method in the evaluation of technologies that are unlikely to result in QALY gain. This will be illustrated with the diagnostic trajectory of complex pediatric neurology (CPN).Results: Our headroom analysis showed a large room for improvement in the current diagnostic trajectory of CPN in terms of diagnostic yield. Combining this with a maximum WTP value for an additional diagnosis and the potential downstream expenses and savings, resulted in a total headroom of €15,028. This indicates that a new technology in this particular diagnostic trajectory, might be cost-effective as long as its costs do not exceed €15,028.Conclusions: The headroom method seems a useful tool in the very early evaluation of medical technologies, also in cases when immediate QALY gain is unlikely. It allows for allocating healthcare resources to those technologies that are most promising. It should be kept in mind, however, that the headroom assumes an optimistic scenario, and for that reason cannot guarantee future cost-effectiveness. It might be most useful for ruling out those technologies that are unlikely to be cost-effective.

Resumen
Virtual healthcare information technologies (HIT) are being adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. We propose that even after Covid-19, virtual HIT can still have great potentials to address the challenges brought by the aging population on healthcare systems. The key questions are (1) what kinds of virtual HIT will be useful for seniors and (2) how these HIT will affect senior citizens’ health-related quality of life (HRQL)? Centered on the concept of HRQL and grounded on task-technology fit (TTF) theory, this paper builds a framework of useful virtual HIT in the context of long-term care for seniors. The framework proposes senior citizens’ human characteristics (i.e. restricted mobility, deteriorated working memory and attention, and social isolation) will influence their health-related tasks (task adaptability, autonomy, and interdependence). A set of virtual healthcare systems can be designed to fit seniors’ tasks. These HIT will increase seniors’ HRQL through increased task-technology fit (i.e. quality of healthcare, timeliness of healthcare, and relationships with seniors). This framework can serve as a base for researchers and practitioners in their endeavor to design more suitable HIT for seniors.

Consequently, due to its characteristics, adaptability and openness, digital technology can greatly facilitate and accelerate inclusive processes in society. Mobile devices and services, the internet together with digital cable and terrestrial TV network are just some of technological tools available to modern society for the inclusion of marginalized social groups, including the persons with disabilities. The introductory chapter considers the basis for the use of digital technology in developing an inclusive society, while the research shows the extent to which digital technology is used, as well as the real needs of persons with disabilities for the purpose of finding potential to improve the quality of their life. The conducted research is based on a quantitative testing of two hypotheses, namely, whether persons with disabilities use digital technology to the same extent as persons without disabilities, and whether there are any differences with respect to the improvements of the quality of life as a result of the use of digital technology. For the purpose of testing the hypotheses, based on the sample group of 185 respondents, with 95 of them being persons with disabilities and 90 being persons without disabilities, a comparison was done of average values through t-test, as well as the comparison of relative frequencies by applying x2 test for independent samples. The results have shown that persons with disabilities use digital technology less than persons without disabilities, which only exacerbates the digital exclusion of persons with disabilities. Nevertheless, both groups have the same expectations with respect to the possibility of improving their lives. Noticeable potential for improving the quality of life for persons with disabilities has been noted by raising the use of digital technology to a higher level, especially with the use of mobile phones and the internet. The analysis of the research results has provided data which are significant for estimating the capacity of digital technology and further application of the technology in developing an inclusive society. This paper also proved that an interdisciplinary approach to such a vulnerable subject as inclusion and the social status of persons with disabilities can have beneficial results, as it can be used as guidance in further development of available tools, applications and other digital gadgets.

Resumen
Seafood products are highly perishable, owing to their high water activity, close to neutral pH, and high content of unsaturated lipids and non-protein nitrogenous compounds. Thus, such products require immediate processing and/or packaging to retain their safety and quality. At the same time, consumers prefer fresh, minimally processed seafood products that maintain their initial quality properties. The present article aims to review the literature over the past decade on: (i) innovative, individual packaging technologies applied to extend the shelf life of fish and fishery products, (ii) the most common combinations of the above technologies applied as multiple hurdles to maximize the shelf life of seafood products, and (iii) the respective food packaging legislation. Packaging technologies covered include: Modified atmosphere packaging; vacuum packaging; vacuum skin packaging; active food packaging, including oxygen scavengers; carbon dioxide emitters; moisture regulators; antioxidant and antimicrobial packaging; intelligent packaging, including freshness indicators; time–temperature indicators and leakage indicators; retort pouch processing and edible films; coatings/biodegradable packaging, used individually or in combination for maximum preservation potential.

Resumen
Fish and fishery products are among the food commodities of high commercial value, high-quality protein content, vitamins, minerals and unsaturated fatty acids, which are beneficial to health. However, seafood products are highly perishable and thus require proper processing to maintain their quality and safety. On the other hand, consumers, nowadays, demand fresh or fresh-like, minimally processed fishery products that do not alter their natural quality attributes. The present article reviews the results of studies published over the last 15 years in the literature on: (i) the main spoilage mechanisms of seafood including contamination with pathogens and (ii) innovative processing technologies applied for the preservation and shelf life extension of seafood products. These primarily include: high hydrostatic pressure, natural preservatives, ozonation, irradiation, pulse light technology and retort pouch processing.

Resumen
A common criticism of high technology is that therapeutic objectives are sometimes secured at too high a price in loss of quality of life. Certainly some interventions serve only to prolong life that is already of unacceptable quality to the patient (some rescues in intensive care and salvage surgery for cancer). Others leave the patient with less good quality of life than he enjoyed before treatment, either because the crisis that called for rescue had lasting effects (incomplete recovery from severe head injury) or because the intervention itself had inevitable adverse effects (mastectomy, laryngectomy, colostomy). Yet some life-extending technologies can improve dramatically the quality of a patient's life (renal and heart transplantation), while others are directed primarily at improving quality of life (hip replacement and coronary bypass surgery). When the ultimate result of technological intervention is improved quality of life or a reasonable extension of life of quality, then some temporary impairment of life's quality may be justifiable. The problem is to discover in which clinical circumstances the benefits expected from high technology are both great enough, and are also likely enough to be realized, to justify the resources that have to be expended by society and the inevitable burdens that have to be borne by the patient (11).

Resumen
BACKGROUND: In recent decades, an increasing number of women worldwide have been postponing childbearing, and the birth of children is possible with increasing frequency in late reproductive age only with the use of assisted reproductive technologies. The persistence of this tendency determines the relevance of studying the characteristics of the quality of life of children born as a result of assisted reproductive technologies by women of late reproductive age, as well as subsequent work with factors that affect the quality of life of this group of children. AIM: This study aimed to analyze and determine the characteristics of the quality of life of children born with the use of assisted reproductive technologies by women of late reproductive age. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The main group of subjects consisted of preschool children (46 years old) born to women over 35 years old (249 children), whereas 248 children of the same age were enrolled as a control group. Conception with the use of assisted reproductive technologies was the main distinguishing feature of the main and control groups. Informed consent was obtained from the parents for the participation of children in the study. The protocol was approved by the local ethics committee of the Samara State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. A survey was performed using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (validated Russian version 4.0) parental form for age categories of 24 and 57 years, as well as a pediatric version for 57 years of age. RESULTS: The quality of life of the main group had significantly lower indicators compared to the control group, with an average score in the general quality of life of 64.52.5 and 79.53.1 in the main and control group, respective, p=0.047. This is mainly due to the lower values of the communicative aspect and the quality of life in kindergarten. The average quality of life score in the field of communication was 70.44.3 and 83.93.4 in the main group and control group, respectively. Additionally, the average quality of life score in the kindergarten was 40.32.6 and 84.23.3 in the main and control group. CONCLUSIONS: The quality of life of preschool children born with the use of assisted reproductive technologies to women of late reproductive age significantly differs from those in the control group. Children born with the use of assisted reproductive technologies have a comparable quality of life in physical activity and emotional state; however, this group experiences the greatest difficulties in the field of communication, especially in kindergarten with peers. These aspects of functioning require special attention from the parents and pediatricians, as well as adjustments within the health-improving measures that are performed in this group of children.

Resumen
Quality losses in fresh produce throughout the postharvest phase are often due to the inappropriate use of preservation technologies. In the last few decades, besides the traditional approaches, advanced postharvest physical and chemical treatments (active packaging, dipping, vacuum impregnation, conventional heating, pulsed electric field, high hydrostatic pressure, and cold plasma) and biocontrol techniques have been implemented to preserve the nutritional value and safety of fresh produce. The application of these methodologies after harvesting is useful when addressing quality loss due to the long duration when transporting products to distant markets. Among the emerging technologies and contactless and non-destructive techniques for quality monitoring (image analysis, electronic noses, and near-infrared spectroscopy) present numerous advantages over the traditional, destructive methods. The present review paper has grouped original studies within the topic of advanced postharvest technologies, to preserve quality and reduce losses and waste in fresh produce. Moreover, the effectiveness and advantages of some contactless and non-destructive methodologies for monitoring the quality of fruit and vegetables will also be discussed and compared to the traditional methods.

Hearing disability and its consequences are approached taking into consideration two viewpoints: medical-rehabilitative that exposes a hearing deficit and limitations of access to the world of sounds, including speech and communication in phonic language; and sociocultural that does not perceive deafness as disability but as a positive value in the Community of the Deaf – people who qualify as a linguistic and cultural minority that communicate using sign language. Currently, at the time of intense development of new technologies, new prospects and opportunities are created that change the face of hearing disability and the Deaf Community. This article attempts to show selected modern assistive technologies and how they might affect improvement of the quality of life of hearing impaired and deaf/Deaf individuals. The focus of the article is on demonstrating the importance of the functional assistive devices and other technologies as strategies of mitigating, preventing or compensating the difficulties related to interpersonal and social communication, increasing access to education and public space for people with hearing impairment and also enhancing their ability to participate in social life independently and unassisted. Key words: hard-of-hearing individuals, deaf/Deaf individuals, assistive technologies, quality of life

Resumen
Smart City applications aim to improve the quality of life of citizens. Applying technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT) to urban environments is considered as a key of the development of smart cities. In this context, air pollution is one of the most important factors affecting the quality of life and the health of the increasing urban population of industrial societies. For this reason, it is essential to develop applications that allow citizens monitoring the concentration of pollutants and avoid places with high levels of pollution. Due to the increasing use of IoT in different areas, there are arising platforms which deal with the challenges IoT implies, such as FIWARE, which provides technologies to facilitate the development of IoT applications. In this paper, an Air Quality Monitoring Unit using Cloudino and Arduino devices and FIWARE technologies is presented. Through Cloudino and Arduino, the monitoring unit gather data from various sensors and transforms the data in a FIWARE data model. Then, the measurements are sent to the Orion Context Broker (OCB), which is a software component provided by FIWARE. The Orion Context Broker allows to manage and publish the data to be consumed by users and applications.

Resumen
As the demographic transition occurs in a global scale, dealing with the consequences of population ageing has emerged as a critical task to modern societies. This has led government entities to pay more and more attention to seniors’ concerns, limitations and needs. A deep understand of old citizens, especially those unfamiliar with Internet and smartphone technologies, is also a challenge in order to enable them to fully benefit of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). In the light of this issue, personalization and user-centred approaches involving older adults in all development stages may be the key for higher levels of user engagement with such ICT solutions as the interactive television (iTV) platform reported in this paper (+TV4E). The +TV4E is an on-going research project conducted at University of Aveiro, Portugal, based on a social inclusion approach, aiming to take benefit from the television viewing dynamics of senior viewers, by interweaving short and personalized adverts related to public and social services alongside regular broadcast contents. The platform is being designed with a user-centred approach featuring the integration of assistive technologies and multiplemultimedia communication channels. In this paper, a system architecture to deliver the informative contents is stated and a discussion of the potential social impacts of providing such platform is presented.

Resumen
The development of innovations changes the usual living environment of people, affects their standard of living and lifestyle. The purpose of the article is to identify the main factors that determine the attitude of the Russians to innovations and contribute to their spread in everyday life. Findings based on the data of sample surveys, in particular the Comprehensive survey of living conditions of the population (2016), sample Federal statistical observation on the use of information technologies and information and telecommunication networks by the population (2018), and the materials of the Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey (RLMS) and the authors’ research conducted in 2017 in Moscow and the Moscow region. The authors used a set of methods for statistical data analysis. The application of the classification tree method revealed the main factors that influence the use of innovative technologies in everyday practice. Factor analysis was used to determine the specifics of Internet use by the Russians. The two-step cluster analysis procedure allowed to form two typology groups (clusters) of respondents depending on their use of such innovative practice as distance financial services. A positive attitude to innovation and information and communication technologies is determined by the experience of using modern technologies in the educational process, the age and interest (readiness) of respondents to use innovations and digital technologies in everyday life. The attitude to innovation is largely determined by the psychological characteristics of the respondent, their willingness to accept innovations. Although innovative practices such as tablet use and distance financial services are widely distributed, their prevalence is determined by similar factors. At the macro level, the parameters of the image and quality of life in various types of settlements, and the involvement in modern technologies in the workplace have an impact. The social and professional status of the person plays a more crucial role than the type of economic activity.
