Resumen
Purpose This article is intended to serve as a tutorial for speech-language pathology and audiology clinicians and researchers interested in pursuing quality improvement (QI) practice and research. Method Through a number of library database searches, author expertise, and first-hand experiences, we compiled this reference covering the history and landscape of clinical QI practice and QI research. We have included and explained definitions of QI activities and provided an overview of models and methods utilized in the implementation of QI programs. Drawing from scholarly literature on the QI process, we have included tools that should be useful for those clinicians and researchers pursuing QI projects. This article includes some examples of QI projects specific to speech-language pathology and audiology. One highlighted example examined a hospital process of identifying newly admitted patients at risk for communication breakdowns during patient–provider information exchange. Benefits and opportunities associated with QI activities are addressed, as well as barriers and facilitators. Conclusion QI practices and QI research are well within the scope of activities in which speech-language pathologists and audiologists should be engaged. QI is now recognized as a legitimate source of new knowledge and a direct route to improving outcomes and delivery of patient care across clinical settings.

Resumen
Today’s pet food industry is growing rapidly, with pet owners demanding high-quality diets for their pets. The primary role of diet is to provide enough nutrients to meet metabolic requirements, while giving the consumer a feeling of well-being. Diet nutrient composition and digestibility are of crucial importance for health and well being of animals. A recent strategy to improve the quality of food is the use of “nutraceuticals” or “Functional foods”. At the moment, probiotics and prebiotics are among the most studied and frequently used functional food compounds in pet foods. The present thesis reported results from three different studies. The first study aimed to develop a simple laboratory method to predict pet foods digestibility. The developed method was based on the two-step multi-enzymatic incubation assay described by Vervaeke et al. (1989), with some modification in order to better represent the digestive physiology of dogs. A trial was then conducted to compare in vivo digestibility of pet-foods and in vitro digestibility using the newly developed method. Correlation coefficients showed a close correlation between digestibility data of total dry matter and crude protein obtained with in vivo and in vitro methods (0.9976 and 0.9957, respectively). Ether extract presented a lower correlation coefficient, although close to 1 (0.9098). Based on the present results, the new method could be considered as an alternative system of evaluation of dog foods digestibility, reducing the need for using experimental animals in digestibility trials. The second parte of the study aimed to isolate from dog faeces a Lactobacillus strain capable of exert a probiotic effect on dog intestinal microflora. A L. animalis strain was isolated from the faeces of 17 adult healthy dogs..The isolated strain was first studied in vitro when it was added to a canine faecal inoculum (at a final concentration of 6 Log CFU/mL) that was incubated in anaerobic serum bottles and syringes which simulated the large intestine of dogs. Samples of fermentation fluid were collected at 0, 4, 8, and 24 hours for analysis (ammonia, SCFA, pH, lactobacilli, enterococci, coliforms, clostridia). Consequently, the L. animalis strain was fed to nine dogs having lactobacilli counts lower than 4.5 Log CFU per g of faeces. The study indicated that the L animalis strain was able to survive gastrointestinal passage and transitorily colonize the dog intestine. Both in vitro and in vivo results showed that the L. animalis strain positively influenced composition and metabolism of the intestinal microflora of dogs. The third trail investigated in vitro the effects of several non-digestible oligosaccharides (NDO) on dog intestinal microflora composition and metabolism. Substrates were fermented using a canine faecal inoculum that was incubated in anaerobic serum bottles and syringes. Substrates were added at the final concentration of 1g/L (inulin, FOS, pectin, lactitol, gluconic acid) or 4g/L (chicory). Samples of fermentation fluid were collected at 0, 6, and 24 hours for analysis (ammonia, SCFA, pH, lactobacilli, enterococci, coliforms). Gas production was measured throughout the 24 h of the study. Among the tested NDO lactitol showed the best prebiotic properties. In fact, it reduced coliforms and increased lactobacilli counts, enhanced microbial fermentation and promoted the production of SCFA while decreasing BCFA. All the substrates that were investigated showed one or more positive effects on dog faecal microflora metabolism or composition. Further studies (in particular in vivo studies with dogs) will be needed to confirm the prebiotic properties of lactitol and evaluate its optimal level of inclusion in the diet.

Resumen

As the philosophy of doing business shift from sell what you can produce to produce what you can sell so do the customers’ specification continuously become a vital tool during product development process, hence increasing the volatility of the business environment. The objective of this thesis is to thoroughly review literature to be supported by cases why most companies fail in sustaining improvement programs then map out a pathway that will leads to successful implementation.

A series of reasons were found which impedes the successful implementation of improvement programs which includes; management is unable to define the problem to be solve and the method of measurement, implementers choose wrong parameters for improvement, implementers sub-optimize or may not involve everyone that will be affected by the program, top management gives little or no attention to improvement programs and at times they may even loose focus, so many concurrent improvement programs are executed which will result to resource overloading, teams members most often lack data integrity, and teams members are often scared to try new ideas hence prohibiting the chances of innovation. To minimize this cankerworm, a number of steps has been mentioned. The steps were divided into two phases, the selection phase and the implementation. The selection process includes; defining the program, focus program on improving shareholders’ value and choose program base on a holistic perspective. The implementation phase includes; commitment of top management, prioritize projects, use critical chain project management to plan and execute project, lay emphasis on quality data, minimize the number of concurrent projects, encourage risk taking, and spend time and resources on value adding activities.

Resumen
Abstract. For the analysis of the quality of metallurgical products, it is important to use techniques that identify the internal and external unconformity of the product without destroying it. These techniques are non-destructive testing (NDT). Although these techniques identify the unconformity of the product, they do not indicate the source of their creation. The purpose of the study was to develop a hybrid method to make decisions about the causes of product incompatibility. This hybrid method was created as a combination of NDT and quality management techniques, i.e.: 5W2H method, Ishikawa diagram, 5Why method. The subject of the study was an unconformity detected in the tube made of the magnesium alloy AMS 4439. Research was carried out using the FPI method. In the analyzed case, its application allowed the detection of a linear indication in the product. To identify the root of the linear indication, the 5W2H method, the Ishikawa diagram, and the 5Why method were used sequentially. The main causes were bad casting and pollution. The root cause was defective supplier material. Integration of the FPI method, the 5W2H method, the Ishikawa diagram, and the 5Why method in the performance of a comprehensive qualitative analyze of products, after which it is possible to identify the unconformity and the root of its occurrence. The integration of FPI and quality management techniques can be practiced to analyze the quality of products (including metallurgical products) in manufacturing and service enterprises.

Resumen
Abstract. Nowadays activated carbon is a material generating great interest, as it is characterized by a vast surface area due to a high number of pores in its structure. Therefore, the main purpose behind its use is the filtration of impurities from air and water that can be adsorbed with high efficiency. Activated carbon can be easily modified as well. The paper describes activated carbon modification with copper-, manganese-, silver- and zinc salts. The effects of the selected impregnates and their concentrations were examined. The products included 5 adsorbent samples: four universal adsorbents, impregnated with all the above-mentioned salts, and one specific adsorbent sample, designed to adsorb lead(II) and mercury(II) ions and impregnated with zinc- and silver salts only. The premise was to obtain pure drinking water. Properties, such as bulk density, methylene blue number or iodine number were determined for the modified activated carbons. To test the efficiency of an improved adsorbent, an experiment with water highly contaminated with Pb(II) and Hg(II) was carried out, and its results revealed that absorption efficiency for these heavy metals exceeded 99.9%. The adsorber samples were also observed under a digital microscope to compare their appearance.

Resumen
Abstract. Carbon steels are willingly used due to the favorable price-performance ratio. They usually do not operate in a non-corrosive state. However, there are products that are hard to protect against corrosion in their entirety. These products include pipes. It is easy to protect the outer layer of the pipe against aggressive environment. The problem with protection is caused by their inner surface. Typically, the working medium is the protective factor, usually filling the internal volume of the pipes completely. It happens, however, that corrosion occurs as a result of long storage of pipes in warehouses, usually in the open air. They are also used as working elements with partial liquid filling. They are then exposed to the environment. One of the corrosive agents is NaCl. The paper presents the results of corrosion rate tests of samples taken from R35 pipes in the environment of a 5% aqueous solution of NaCl at 10oC. The analyzes were carried out based on the determination of mass losses. On the basis of the tests carried out, the relationship between the rate of corrosion and the soaking time of the samples was determined. It was confirmed that on the basis of roughness parameters it is possible to draw conclusions about the suitability of steel for further operation.

Resumen
Abstract. The use of multifaceted quality analyses contributes to increasing the efficiency of production processes and quality control as part of maintaining competitiveness. The aim of the study was to identify an integrally configured method for analysing the effectiveness of control points in the context of their ranking in terms of given variables. Verification of the model was carried out against the production process of an aluminium casting. The obtained ranking of the detection methods indicated the MT method as the most effective, which was influenced by the significant detection of critical non-conformities. The study observed little difference between the performance parameters of visual inspection and endoscopic testing, which is largely due to the detection of non-conformities of lower significance and the relatively low cost of testing. Further work will relate to the implementation of the model against other processes carried out in the company.

Resumen
Abstract. Ammonium nitrate(V) (AN, NH4NO3) is widely and widely used in the chemical industry, in agriculture as a fertilizer, explosive for military and civil purposes (e.g. in mining) or as a solid propellant [1, 2]. Storage of ammonium nitrate poses many problems, as it may be hazardous. This was proven, for example, by the explosion in 2020 in Beirut. Ammonium nitrate was stored in a warehouse at the port among other wares and an unfortunate turn of events caused a huge explosion. The explosion contributed to the formation of a 140-meter crater and an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale. This explosion was classified as the third most destructive urban explosion of all time, after the atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II [3, 4], as the mixtures of oils (fuel or gas) and a concentrated form of nitrogen fertilizer  ammonium nitrate form explosives [5]. The dangerous properties of AN have been extensively studied. It is known that pure AN is stable at room temperature but may explode when mixed with impurities in a confined space or under fire-hazard conditions [1]. The research aimed to analyze the changes occurring in two-component mixtures with ammonium nitrate and powdered or fine-grained materials and to assess the effect of such an admixture on the fertilizer. Thermal analysis was used to carry out the TG-DSC tests.

Resumen
Abstract. In Malaysia, industrialization and population growth have both contributed to an increase in workplace occupational injuries. The most recent statistics on reported accidents show that out of 10,000 employees, 99 have been directly involved in work-related accidents. Accidents do not occur by chance, thus there are multiple factors which are contributing to workplace accidents. It is important to spread safety awareness to employees inside the organization. The main objective of the current study is to investigate the relationship between safety leadership, supervisor safety roles and safety behavior in logistics companies of Malaysia. The study respondents included 160 employees from logistics companies of Malaysia. A partial least square equation modeling “Higher Order Two-Stage Approach” analysis was performed to assess the measurement and structural model involving variables of safety leadership, supervisor safety roles and safety behavior to draw the results. The results of the study revealed that safety leadership roles imposed by the managers have a significant effect on safety behavior, mediated by supervisors’ safety roles. Therefore, the findings of the study suggest that safety leadership and supervisor safety roles be implemented in logistics companies. These make employees more inclined to take part in safety initiatives which can make the workplace safer.

Resumen
Abstract. The need to protect the Earth's resources necessitates pro-ecological activities. One of the aspects of these activities is the rational management of post-production and post-consumer waste. One of the materials whose production significantly pollutes the natural environment is concrete. On the other hand, the analysis of the literature carried out in the work showed that it is a material that can absorb a significant amount of processed waste used as a substitute for cement or aggregate. These are polymer materials of various origins, residues from biomass combustion and, above all, steel slag, which has long been used in construction in various forms. One of the types of this material is lumpy steel slag, which has been used for years mainly in road construction as a replacement for crushed stone in the construction of the road base. The paper presents instrumental tests of the influence of the lump slag content used as a replacement for basalt aggregate on selected parameters of concrete (compressive strength, water absorption, volume density). The research showed that such a modification of the mixture composition does not significantly change the tested parameters. The lump slag can therefore be successfully used in the production of normal and heavy concrete.
