Resumen
Abstract In this article, we analyse maximal sets of k-spaces, in PG(n, q) and AG(n, q) with n ≥ 2k + t + 3, that pairwise meet in at least a t-space. It is known that for both PG(n, q) and AG(n, q), the largest example is a t-pencil, i.e. the set of all k-spaces containing a fixed t-space. In this paper, we analyse the structure of the second largest maximal example in both PG(n, q) and AG(n, q).

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to find the solution for special cases of regular-long wave equations with fractional order using q-homotopy analysis transform method (q-HATM). Design/methodology/approach The proposed technique (q-HATM) is the graceful amalgamations of Laplace transform technique with q-homotopy analysis scheme and fractional derivative defined with Atangana-Baleanu (AB) operator. Findings The fixed point hypothesis considered to demonstrate the existence and uniqueness of the obtained solution for the proposed fractional-order model. To illustrate and validate the efficiency of the future technique, the authors analysed the projected nonlinear equations in terms of fractional order. Moreover, the physical behaviour of the obtained solution has been captured in terms of plots for diverse fractional order. Originality/value To illustrate and validate the efficiency of the future technique, we analysed the projected nonlinear equations in terms of fractional order. Moreover, the physical behaviour of the obtained solution has been captured in terms of plots for diverse fractional order. The obtained results elucidate that, the proposed algorithm is easy to implement, highly methodical, as well as accurate and very effective to analyse the behaviour of nonlinear differential equations of fractional order arisen in the connected areas of science and engineering.

Resumen
The study analyses the phonological interference of phoneme pronunciation [q] by Sundanese and Javanese speakers compared with Arabic speakers. The researchers used a descriptive comparative qualitative method. The researchers listened, took notes, and documented the voice recordings of male students from the Sundanese and Javanese ethnic groups when reading the Qur'an to collect research data and analyse it using Praat software version 6.2.13. From the results of the recordings, Sundanese-speaking students and Javanese speakers would then be compared with reference speakers, namely Syekh Sa'ad Al-ghamidi, who has the capability of reciting verses from the Qur'an. The research results indicated phonological interference in the phoneme [q] when Sundanese and Javanese male students read the Qur'an. The factor contributing to the occurrence of pronunciation errors in the phoneme [q] was the transfer of SL and JL elements when using AL. Errors occurred due to deviations from the proper language rules. The research is expected to have positive implications, minimizing interference and increasing fluency in reading the Qur'an.

Resumen
This study used the Q methodology to analyse the perceptions of the meaning of work among Generation MZ employees working for South Korean nongovernmental organisations (NGOs). Forty Q samples about the meaning of work were extracted through a literature review and in-depth interviews, and 24 Generation MZ employees working for NGOs were selected as P samples to carry out Q sorting. The results were analysed using the KenQ program, and the perceptions of the meaning of work among Generation MZ employees working for NGOs were classified into four types. For Type 1, work was perceived as a means of self-realization corresponding to their values and an opportunity for new challenges. Type 2 employees expect people to recognise them as people of value through their work and pursue the satisfaction of contributing to people and society through their employment. Type 3 employees expected work to be a happy and interesting experience that coincided with their values beyond simple money-making. Finally, Type 4 considered work and personal life more separate and prioritised solidarity with colleagues.

Resumen
In his “Time and Modality”, based on his own philosophical motivations, Arthur Norman Prior proposed the modal logic Q as a correct modal logic in 1957. Prior developed Q in order to offer a logic for contingent beings, in which one could rationally state that some beings are contingent and some are necessary. One may say that Q is an actualist modal logic with a natural semantics. This review article is a developed description/discussion of/on “The System Q” that is the fifth chapter of “Time and Modality”. I have attempted to analyse the logical structure of system Q in order to provide a more understandable description as well as logical analysis for today’s logicians, philosophers, and information-computer scientists. In the paper, the Polish notations are translated into modern notations in order to be more comprehensible and to support the developed formal descriptions and semantic analysis.

Resumen
We investigate the complexity of learning query inseparable εℒℋ ontologies in a variant of Angluin's exact learning model. Given a fixed data instance A* and a query language 𝒬, we are interested in computing an ontology ℋ that entails the same queries as a target ontology 𝒯 on A*, that is, ℋ and 𝒯 are inseparable w.r.t. A* and 𝒬. The learner is allowed to pose two kinds of questions. The first is ‘Does (𝒯,A)⊨ q?’, with A an arbitrary data instance and q and query in 𝒬. An oracle replies this question with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. In the second, the learner asks ‘Are ℋ and 𝒯 inseparable w.r.t. A* and 𝒬?’. If so, the learning process finishes, otherwise, the learner receives (A*,q) with q ∈ 𝒬, (𝒯,A*) |= q and (ℋ,A*) ⊭ q (or vice-versa). Then, we analyse conditions in which query inseparability is preserved if A* changes. Finally, we consider the PAC learning model and a setting where the algorithms learn from a batch of classified data, limiting interactions with the oracles.

Resumen
AbstractWe analyse the structure of a regular extension ℳ ⋊ γ, υQ of a von Neumann algebra ℳ by an action (modulo inner automorphisms) γ of a discrete group Q, and a nonabelian 2-cycle υ for γ, under the assumption that the “action” γ of Q is cocycle conjugate to an “action”, α which leaves globally invariant a cartan subalgebra of ℳ. we show that ℳ ⋊ γ, υQ is isomorphic with the algebra of the left regular projective representation of a certain discrete, non-principal groupoid ℜ V Q determined by the action of Q on the given cartan subalgebrs, where ℜ is the Takesaki relation associated to the pair (ℳ, ) we apply this description to give a decomposition of the regular representation of a group G into irreducibles, where G is a split extension of a type I group K by an abelian group Q, and work out the details of the author's earlier abstract plancherel theorem in the case when K is abelian.

Resumen
Chemical composition is a critical factor for determining the efficacy of any traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and can be used as an indicator of commercial quality. To develop a new strategy for discovering potential quality markers (Q-markers) of TCM by integrating ultra-performance liquid chromatography-Q-extractive orbitrap/mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-Extractive Orbitrap/MS), chemometric analysis, and network pharmacology, using Schisandra chinensis (Turcz.) Baill. (S. chinensis) as an example. The chemical profiling of S. chinensis was performed using UPLC-Q-Extractive Orbitrap/MS, followed by identification of hepatoprotective Q-markers through a comprehensive understanding of chemometric analysis and virtual target prediction of network pharmacology. Six compounds were considered potent candidates for Q-markers, which were identified as schisandrol A (6), angeloylgomisin H (10), schisantherin A (17), schisantherin B (18), schisandrin A (23), and schisandrin C (26). All Q-markers exhibited significant hepatoprotective activity, as evidenced by in vitro experiments. Subsequently, a method for simultaneous quantification was established and employed to analyse seven batches of S. chinensis. Therefore, the integrated approach of UPLC-Q-Extractive Orbitrap/MS, chemometrics, and network pharmacology proved to be an effective strategy for the discovery of Q-markers that can assist in assessing the overall chemical consistency of samples and provide a basis for quality evaluation of the material basis of S. chinensis.

Resumen
This study aimed to analyse the types and characteristics of rehabilitation specialists’ experience in administering virtual reality (VR) programs using Q methodology as well as provide basic data regarding the introduction of VR programs in rehabilitation therapy. Thirty-three statements were derived based on a literature review and an in-depth interview with rehabilitation specialists. Q-sorting was performed by a Q-sample of 22 rehabilitation specialists with experience administering VR programs. Data were analysed using the QUANL Program. Rehabilitation specialists’ experience with administering VR programs were classified into three types: type 1 was labelled ‘the need to develop VR programs customised for disability level and type’, type 2 was labelled ‘emphasis on experts’ role of paying attention continuously and their experience’, and type 3 was labelled ‘the need to develop safety equipment by disability type’. The study’s findings demonstrate that there are a variety of rehabilitation specialists’ perceptions on their experience administering VR programs. This study is of significance because it suggests ways to improve VR programs for disabled people, with the consultation of rehabilitation specialists. In addition, rehabilitation specialists’ perceptions on VR programs have not been explored before.

Macrophages are functionally polarized into inflammatory and microbicidal (M1) and immunoregulatory (M2) cells. If circulating monocytes may be polarized is not known. We determined the transcriptional signatures of human monocytes stimulated with IFN-γ and IL-4, known to induce the polarization of macrophages into M1 and M2 cells, respectively, using microarrays and real-time RT-PCR. We found that monocytes exhibited an early pattern of activation specific to IFN-γ or IL-4 and a late pattern of activation common to both agonists. The selected biomarkers of early and late responses were tested in patients with Q fever. We showed that the kinetic model of monocyte activation enables a dynamic approach for the evaluation of patients with acute Q fever or Q fever endocarditis. On the other hand, it is known that the prevalence of Q fever is related to sex and is higher in men than in women. Based on previous studies on an experimental model of infection by Coxiella burnetii, the agent of Q fever, we hypothesized that circadian genes are differently modulated in men and women with Q fever. We showed that the expression of the Per2 gene was significantly increased in males with acute Q fever compared with healthy volunteers but did not differ in females with Q fever and healthy females. These results suggest that that the modulation of circadian genes is associated with a human infectious disease. We also found that the expression of LNX1 and LNX2 genes that encode two enzymes involved in protein degradation is increased in Q fever endocarditis but not in acute Q fever

In pregnant women Q fever presents obstetrical complications. The principal way of human contamination by Coxiella burnetii, the agent of Q fever, is due to aerosols from placentas of infected animals. The nature of placenta cells that are targeted by C. burnetii remains unknown. I showed that C. burnetii infects BeWo and JEG trophoblastic cells and that organisms intensively replicated in BeWo cells and survived in JEG cells. A microarray analysis showed that C. burnetii induced a specific inflammatory response in BeWo cells. These results suggest that trophoblasts may serve as a reservoir for C. burnetii. Placenta macrophages placentaires may also targeted by C. burnetii. I showed that placenta CD14+ macrophages were characterized by phenotypic, transcriptional and functional properties different from those of circulating monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages. In addition, placenta CD14+ macrophages differentiate into multinucleated giant cells that may regulate the cytolytic activity of macrophages in the placenta context since placenta CD14+ macrophages were not polarized in M1 or M2 macrophages. While M1/M2 polarization of macrophages is well established, that of monocytes remains an important question. We activated monocytes with canonical agonists of M1 and M2 profiles in macrophages using microarrays. The early response, 6 hours, of monocytes corresponded to a type M1/M2 response but the delayed response, 18 hours, did not correspond to the M1/M2 dichotomy, demonstrating a new level of heterogeneity of myeloid cells

In this thesis, we are interesting in Integer-Valued Polynomials on a subset E of a discrete valuation domain V and we compute generalized factorials as defined by Bhargava. In a the first part, we study what we call Legendre subsets, whose factorial sequence satisfies a similar Legendre formula. We prove, by using v-orderings (introduced by Bhargava) and very well distributed sequences (introduces by Amice), that the precompact regular subsets are the only Legendre subsets. We then extend a Conrad's work about normal bases of continuous functions by replacing his construction for continuous functions on V by continuous functions on a subset E of V. Denoting by qn the number of classes of E modulo Mn (where M is the maximal ideal of V ), we prove that when qn divides qn+1, a necessary and sufficient condition to obtain normal bases by qn-digit expansion is that the subset E is a Legendre subset. In the general case, we characterize all the subsets E of V such that the qn-digit principle works. We give an example of normal bases of integer-valued polynomials, obtained by qn-digit expansion. Finally, we extend the notion of factorial of a subset E of V d. First, we give necessary conditions for this work, based on a Mulay's article. Second, we generalize the notion of v-ordering and construct a basis of the V -module of integer-valued polynomials in several indeterminates, linked with the v-ordering. Finally, we give a new definition for the notion of factorial and we give examples

The main objective of this doctoral thesis is the analysis of the role of a regional daily newspaper as a local social actor within a particular society: Reunion Island. More precisely, the present work is a monograph on le "Quotidien de la Réunion", in the context of a 21 year period (1976-1997). Within the general theoretical framework which has been adopted in order to make this case study, one is interested in the questions of the + building up; of events and news and of how newspapers deal with social movements and actions. In order to confirm the hypothesis that a local paper does fulfil a role of social actor facing social movements, we have applied the methods of discourse analysis to journalistic forms. This methodology may be regarded as essentially inspired by semiotics. We have analysed a corpus of articles and compared the accounts (by "Le Quotidien") of three movements : (I) the strong desire to save the + young ; "Quotidien" in 1977, (II) the support given to Télé Freedom in 1991 and (III) the demonstration of civil servants and students in 1997. The analysis of the argumentative and rhetorical processes which are specific features of the paper's editorial strategy permits us to ascertain its value system and its positions on the local scene, and also to emphasize certain contradictions and discrepancies between its editorial principles and its journalistic practices

Resumen
AbstractAbstract interpretation is a framework to design sound static analyses by over-approximating the set of program behaviours. While over-approximations can prove correctness, they cannot witness incorrectness because false alarms may arise. An ideal, but uncommon, situation is completeness of the abstraction that can ensure no false alarm is introduced by the abstract interpreter. Local Completeness Logic is a proof system that can decide both correctness and incorrectness of a program: any provable triple $$\vdash _{A}[P]~\textsf{c}~[Q]$$ ⊢ A [ P ] c [ Q ] in the logic implies completeness of an intensional abstraction of program $$\textsf{c}$$ c on input P and is such that Q can be used to decide (in)correctness. However, completeness itself is an extensional property of the function computed by the program, while the above intensional analysis depends on the way the program is written and therefore not all valid triples can be derived in the proof system. Our main contribution is the study of new inference rules which allow one to perform part of the intensional analysis in a more precise abstract domain, and then to transfer the result back to the coarser domain. With these new rules, all (extensionally) valid triples can be derived in the proof system, thus untying the set of provable properties from the way the program is written.

Resumen
In this paper, the J-Q two-parameter elastic-plastic fracture mechanics approach is used to analyse the surface cracked plates under uniaxial and biaxial loading. First, the J-Q characterization of crack front stress fields of surface cracked plates under uniaxial and biaxial tension loadings are discussed. The complete J-Q trajectories for points along the crack fronts as load increases from small-scale yielding to large-scale yielding were obtained. Based on the materials toughness locus, (resistance to fracture JC as a function of Q), the assessments of the onset of cleavage fracture are conducted. The critical location along the 3D crack front, and the corresponding maximum load carrying capacity are obtained. The results are consistent with experimental observations. It is demonstrated the J-Q two-parameter approach is capable of providing comprehensive assessments of cleavage fracture of surface cracked plates under uniaxial/biaxial loadings, capturing all the important aspects of the problem.

Resumen
The paper presents an explicitly straightforward formulation of the stationary and dynamic behaviour of a pressure relief valve (PRV). This makes it possible to consider the static, dynamic and robustness properties of a PRV during the analysis or design process. A PRV can be understood as a self-regulating, cross-domain system. The governing equations are well known and widely used in literature. Usually, these include: a geometrical description of the flow area and the pressure surface, a flow equation, the pressure build-up equations, a spring-like counterforce, a flow force, a term for viscous friction and the inertia force. Together they form a system of ordinary non-linear differential equations of third order. So far, these equations had to be solved numerically in order to analyse or adapt the static or dynamic properties of a particular PRV. In this paper, direct analytical solutions for stationary and dynamic cases are derived. This results in an explicit equation for the respective p-Q characteristic curve. In addition, a simple criterion for the stability of a PRV was found. As it turns out, the minimum requirement for viscous damping is directly anti-proportional to the gradient of the p-Q characteristic curve. It is empirically known that decreasing the gradient of the p-Q curve makes the system more susceptible to oscillations. However, this has not yet been shown mathematically elegant. The method presented here calculates the static p-Q curve, the stability and natural frequencies of a PRV in a simple procedure using only elementary mathematics — no numerical scheme is required. Thus, the new method offers four main advantages. First, it is several orders of magnitude faster because it is not necessary to solve the differential equation system numerically. Secondly, the user does not require any special knowledge or advanced calculation tools — a simple spreadsheet program is sufficient. This eliminates licensing and training costs. Third, sensitivity and robustness analyses can be carried out easily because the dependencies are explicitly known. Last but not least, the understanding of a PRV is improved by knowing directly which parameters have what influence. The new method is tested and verified by comparison with conventional non-linear numerical simulations.

Resumen
Life tables have a substantial influence on both public pension systems andlife insurance policies. National statistical agencies construct life tables fromhypotheses death rate estimates to the (mx aggregated ), or death figures probabilities of demographic (q x ), after applying events (deaths, variousmigrations and births). The use of big data has become extensive acrossmany disciplines, including population statistics. We take advantage of thisfact to create new (more unrestricted) mortality estimators within the familyof period-based estimators, in particular, when the exposed-to-riskpopulation is computed through mid-year population estimates. We useactual data of the Spanish population to explore, by exploiting the detailedmicrodata of births, deaths and migrations (in total, more than 186 milliondemographic events), the effects that different assumptions have oncalculating death probabilities. We also analyse their impact on a sample ofinsurance product. Our results reveal the need to include granular data, including the exact birthdate of each person, when computing period mid-year life tables.

Resumen
The aim of this study is to analyse the influence of intellectual capital on firm value through firm performance (profitability, productivity, market valuation and growth). Intellectual capital is measured by using a Value Added Intellectual Coefficient (VAIC™). Firm value is measured by Tobin's Q. The financial performance consists of Return on assets (ROA), Asset turn over (ATO), Market to Book Value (MB) and Earnings per Share (EPS). Data from this study was obtained from financial statements and annual reports of manufacturing companies that are taken from the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sample of this study is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the year of 2011-2013 for 37 companies. The types of data used are secondary data in the form of annual reports by the manufacturing companies. Empirical analysis is conducted by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results of this study indicate that Intellectual capital has a significant effect on profitability, market valuation and growth. Intellectual capital does not significantly affect productivity and firm value. Market valuation significantly affects the firm value. Profitability, productivity and growth do not significantly affect firm value. Furthermore, Intellectual capital which is intervened by the firm performance has a positive effect on firm value.

Resumen
BS 7910, the UK procedure for the assessment of flaws in metallic structures, is being revised with a view to publication in 2012. Like the existing procedure, the new procedure will address all major failure/damage mechanisms, namely fracture, fatigue, creep and corrosion, and is intended to be used across a range of industry sectors and component types. There are several major proposed changes, which draw mainly on the existing BS 7910 procedures, the UK nuclear industry’s R6 document and the European FITNET procedure. The most far-reaching changes are in Section 7 (fracture) and related annexes. Here, the modifications include: • a re-structuring of the fracture assessment procedures from their present form (Levels 1–3) to a new hierarchy based on Options 1–3, which are more compatible with the current R6 and FITNET approaches, • revised treatment of flaw interaction, • a new annex (Annex N) permitting analysis under conditions of reduced crack tip constraint, • a new annex (I) addressing analysis of weld strength mismatch, • a revised residual stress compendium (Annex Q). As part of the revision, all annexes will be reviewed and edited where necessary, and a new annex on non-destructive examination (NDE) will be included for the first time. In view of the fact that many of the major changes concern the fracture assessment clauses, this paper presents a case study based on the analysis of a fully-circumferential flaw in a pipeline girth weld. The basic assessment Options (1 and 2) given in the new procedure are used to analyse the flaw, and three more advanced techniques (constraint-based assessment, assessment using an idealised residual stress distribution and analysis based on weld strength mismatch) are also applied.

Resumen
The flow in the secondary air system of a gas turbine engine passes over numerous oil supply and scavenge pipes and a fracture in such a pipe will cause a jet of oil to be ejected as a spray. This spray will disperse in the surrounding flow. Accurate and reliable numerical modelling of these sprays presents significant problems due in part to their complexity, but also the lack of experimental data available for model validation. This paper describes the design, manufacture, testing and results from an experimental test rig aimed at spray characterisation. The sprays considered were produced through a round sharp edged nozzle with a 0.57 mm diameter and a length to diameter ratio of 1.61. The spray was introduced normal to the cross flow. Phase Doppler Anemometry was used to determine droplet size and velocity for Weber numbers within the range of 13 < Weg < 580 and Momentum Flux Ratio within the range of 0.8 < q < 136, resulting in 19 different spray fields. Each of these spray fields has been characterised at three axial locations. Contours of droplet size, mass flux distribution, axial droplet velocity and transverse droplet velocity are presented. In addition, a pulsed laser sheet and CCD camera were used to analyse the jet behaviour in terms of break up length and jet trajectory.

Resumen
Abstract Wave energy has immense potential and can provide at least twice as much electricity as globally produced now due to its high energy density. Apart from the vast accessibility of the resource, waves are more predictable and available throughout the year when compared to other forms of renewable energies. This makes the development and utilization of wave energy technologies immensely important, in order to meet the renewable energy targets, an example of which is the 40GW by 2050 set as the offshore energy strategy of the European Commission. For wave energy to become a commercially viable power source, individual wave energy converters (WECs) need to be deployed in large numbers similar to what can be seen in the wind industry. Therefore, numerical tools simulating multiple interacting devices becomes highly relevant. This research utilizes the new open-source Boundary Element Method (BEM) based solver HAMS-MREL to analyse the hydrodynamic interactions of mono-array farms of point absorbers inspired by the state-of-the-art Corpower C4 point absorber device in various configurations subjected to waves in different directions. The obtained responses are used to estimate the power absorbed by the arrays in different configurations to obtain the Array Power Matrices, which can be used to study the variability of the q-factors in different sea states and different directions. Furthermore, the obtained Array Power Matrices are used to estimate the power absorbed by the array configurations in the North Sea. This can be a powerful tool for the analysis of the best wave energy farm configurations as it employs a computationally efficient frequency domain-based solver.

Resumen
Purpose – This study is aimed at proposing the design of an efficient workbench and guidelines to help content providers in tourism to address proper messages both in managing ordinary activities and in facing unpredictable events and external shocks. Recent Covid-19 related events have particularly stressed the importance of tools supporting, guiding and directing message providers in designing advertising campaigns to attract visitors providing proper information and contrasting the possible negative influence of misinformation. Social media and the Internet can give a wide picture of current trends. Nevertheless, without appropriate tools suitable to analyse a huge quantity of data, the research of information on trends and mood by advertising providers constitutes a challenge difficult to face unless limited to the analysis of selected websites with consequent possible loss of details. Such a choice, based on humans’ subjective selection of sources, could introduce bias compromising the efficiency of the message. Methodology – Several studies state that the composition of an advertising campaign should be a conjoint activity including both creative and scientific work, involving also methodologies and tools helping messages provider to improve the efficacy and the impact of advertising campaigns. The present study aims to introduce an innovative methodology based on combining ideas from Information Technology and Econometrics. In particular Artificial Intelligence methods, such as Machine Learning and sentiment analysis, through the Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Vector Autoregressive models (VAR). Findings – The language used and emotions elicited in tourism advertising messages have a strong impact on attracting visitors and tourists, particularly when international events create concerns in the population. Indeed, a multimodal approach, supported by tools from Econometrics, Machine Learning and Sentiment Analysis showed the efficacy in capturing the mood and the trend in prospect visitors to allow to redistribute tourist flows towards different destinations and within wider periods of the year. Contribution – The work gives a theoretical and practical contribution. Indeed, the combination of Econometrics, Artificial Neural Networks and Sentiment Analysis tools can constitute a scientific base to analyse trends and to compose advertising texts, websites and campaigns taking into account the impact of unexpected events and maximising Linguistics suggestions to improve the efficiency of messages. Besides, the tools also allow suggesting guidelines of the features and the structure that should be always considered. Last but not least, these tools could be used to select the main topics arising on the web and social networks around current issues perceived by visitors, allowing the selection of a list of Q&A practical indications which can be translated into effective virtual assistants particularly useful when the personnel is reduced due to unexpected events and constraints, as during Covid-19 periods.

Resumen
Fatigue has been demonstrated to have a direct negative effect on the productivity of the worker and a marked rise in the long-term occupational risk. The measures being presently applied mainly target the muscular activity directly, that together with subjective understandings of one’s own fatigue levels make up an inaccurate cumulative evaluation of fatigue. “Industry 4.0” wearable devices allows for a more complete and continuous measurement of variables related to fatigue, and thus represent a more accurate value of the worker’s fatigue level.Aim: To analyse the structure of heart rate variability, as a measure of cardiovascular responsiveness, during repetitive work when muscular fatigue is present. Tasks: A protocol was developed to simulate a real-life workplace scenario with a set of low-intensity repetitive tasks that are commonly practiced. The signals obtained were then processed, and heart rate variability was calculated using multifractal analysis and frequency domain variables.Hypothesis: It was hypothesized that the structure of variability will change during repetitive work in the presence of fatigue.Methodology: Participants were asked to perform three 10-minute trials of a repetitive task involving a specific set of movements commonly required for work. Between each trial, a fatigue protocol was carried out, targeting the main agonist muscle. An ECG was collected through a wearable band placed on the level of the xiphoid appendix during the three trials denominated: Baseline, Fatigue 1, and Fatigue 2. Results: Significant differences were found in Very Low Frequency and Low Frequency in the Baseline and Fatigue 2 conditions. However, there were no significant differences in High Frequency. The results of the fractal analysis did not show any significant differences for any q-order, indicating that the fractal of HRV is maintained. Conclusions: These results are enthusiastic for applying algorithms that use heart rate variability to quantify cardiovascular responsiveness to fatigue during repetitive work. These results suggest that fatigue alters the variability structure of HRV, but the fractal structure of HRV remains unchanged.

Resumen
In this study, we examine potential temporal changes in coda Q values for two significant Canadian earthquakes in different tectonic environments: the 2017 (Mw 5.9) Barrow Strait earthquake along Canada's northern margin and the 2012 (Mw 7.8) Haida Gwaii subduction earthquake on Canada's west coast. Waveforms from 124 earthquakes (2.0 </= M </= 4.6) for ~30 years prior to the January 8, 2017 Barrow Strait earthquake and 66 events (mainly aftershocks of M 2.0-5.3) in about 4 years after the mainshock recorded by the closest seismic station (RES) of the Canadian National Seismograph Network (CNSN) were utilized in this study. Based on our analysis, overall average of Q0 (Q at 1 Hz) decreased from 92 (before the mainshock) to 81. The most significant decrease in the frequency range between 2 and 16 Hz is observed for areas corresponding to ellipse parameter a2 of 50, 70 and 80 mainly related to aftershock activity. Precursory Q changes could not be evaluated before the mainshock due to the lack of reported seismicity within 100 km of the recording seismic station for almost 2 years from April 2015 to January 2017. Coda Q values before and after the October 28, 2012 Haida Gwaii earthquake in British Columbia show a similar pattern. Waveforms from 249 earthquakes (2.0 </= M </= 4.9) in 2 years before the mainshock and 498 events (2.5 </= M </= 6.3) in 2 years after the mainshock recorded by the three closest seismic stations of the CNSN were utilized. Overall average of Q0 decreased from 89 (before the mainshock) to 69 (station BNB), from 90 to 79 (station DIB) and from 86 to 78 (station VIB). In general, these results are in agreement with other global studies that show a decrease in Q0 following a major earthquake, likely the result of increased fracturing and fluids in the epicentral region.

Resumen
This report describes activity conducted in several lines of research associated with field-scale water and solute processes. A major effort was put forth developing a stochastic continuum analysis for an important class of problems involving flow of reactive and non reactive chemicals under steady unsaturated flow. The field-scale velocity covariance tensor has been derived from local soil properties and their variability, producing a large-scale description of the medium that embodies all of the local variability in a statistical sense. Special cases of anisotropic medium properties not aligned along the flow direction of spatially variable solute sorption were analysed in detail, revealing a dependence of solute spreading on subtle features of the variability of the medium, such as cross-correlations between sorption and conductivity. A novel method was developed and tested for measuring hydraulic conductivity at the scale of observation through the interpretation of a solute transport outflow curve as a stochastic-convective process. This undertaking provided a host of new K(q) relationships for existing solute experiments and also laid the foundation for future work developing a self-consistent description of flow and transport under these conditions. Numerical codes were developed for calculating K(q) functions for a variety of solute pulse outflow shapes, including lognormal, Fickian, Mobile-Immobile water, and bimodal. Testing of this new approach against conventional methodology was mixed, and agreed most closely when the assumptions of the new method were met. We conclude that this procedure offers a valuable alternative to conventional methods of measuring K(q), particularly when the application of the method is at a scale (e.g. and agricultural field) that is large compared to the common scale at which conventional K(q) devices operate. The same problem was approached from a numerical perspective, by studying the feasibility of inverting a solute outflow signal to yield the hydraulic parameters of the medium that housed the experiment. We found that the inverse problem was solvable under certain conditions, depending on the amount of noise in the signal and the degree of heterogeneity in the medium. A realistic three dimensional model of transient water and solute movement in a heterogeneous medium that contains plant roots was developed and tested. The approach taken was to generate a single realization of this complex flow event, and examine the results to see whether features were present that might be overlooked in less sophisticated model efforts. One such feature revealed is transverse dispersion, which is a critically important component in the development of macrodispersion in the longitudinal direction. The lateral mixing that was observed greatly exceeded that predicted from simpler approaches, suggesting that at least part of the important physics of the mixing process is embedded in the complexity of three dimensional flow. Another important finding was the observation that variability can produce a pseudo-kinetic behavior for solute adsorption, even when the local models used are equilibrium.
