Resumen
Paying careful attention to the multiple meanings the word ‘institution’ has in French, this article traces the development of institutional psychotherapy’s clinical practice. Through a close reading of Jean Oury’s seminars and clinical writing alongside other key members of the GTPSI (Groupe de travail de psychothérapie et de sociothérapie institutionnelles or Working Group on Institutional Psychotherapy and Socio- therapy), this article argues that institutional psychotherapy’s specificity is in the way in which the clinical and the political are able to connect their praxis.

Resumen
Games have been widely used in many domains including medical for therapy purposes. With the advancement of technology, mobile psychotherapy games have essential role in improving memory among elderly patients. There are numbers of psychotherapy games that have been developed for elderly with memory disorder. However, at one point most of the developed games are still questionable since there is lack of game development guides for this particular purpose. Designing the optimum design for the psychotherapy games, which emphasizes the users in it will be able to maximise the effectiveness of the games. Thus, this study aims to review the literatures systematically in identifying the criteria for mobile psychotherapy games specifically for memory disorder. To achieve this, three databases were used in searching literatures which are Scopus, Web of Science and ACM Digital Library. The search identified 992 articles altogether;69 papers remains for further selection process while 909 were excluded due to irrelevancy of the focus. The selection process later refrained to 16 articles being analysed and synthesised. The selection incorporated all articles which focused directly on the psychotherapy games for memory disorder elderly patients concentrated on mobile devices. As a result, a set of important criteria for different themes on designing mobile psychotherapy game has been identified. Significant features of psychotherapy games were found in majority of the reviewed articles. These criteria will be beneficial in forming a guideline for designing and developing mobile psychotherapy games for memory disorder patients.

The article presents an analysis of Leo Tolstoy’s novella The Death of Ivan Ilyich, with a view to transforming experiences in literature and psychotherapy. It focuses on three central points: the question of personal authenticity, the autobiographic narration of self as source of our identity, and the importance of physical contact as a bridge between individuals. A short clinical note highlights some critical issues that could be important for the reader, personally as well as professionally.

Resumen
Islamic psychotherapy has been an interesting discussion over the past few years. This is indicated by the number of studies on Islamic psychotherapy, both literature studies and experiments. As a method of psychotherapy, Islamic psychotherapy cannot be separated from ethics code. However, Islamic psychotherapy is based on two principles, namely the science of psychology and Islamic religion. It leads to debate about the form of ethical code of Islamic psychotherapy. This study aimed to provide suggestions for the formulation of a code of ethics in Islamic psychotherapy using literature study. The result is a clear formulation of ethical code of Islamic psychotherapy. The formulation is based on psychology ethics which is then interpreted according to the context of Islamic psychotherapy. It is intended that the perception and implementation of Islamic psychotherapy can be standardized and not leading to ethical violations

This article seeks to explore institutional psychotherapy’s politically informed practice by highlighting two key concepts: crisis and resistance. It first briefly sketches a conceptual overview of the two concepts, paying particular attention to the complicated interactions between their political and therapeutic meanings. Following each conceptual elaboration there is a discussion exploring the ways in which the concept has been used by two key members of the institutional psychotherapy movement, Frantz Fanon and Félix Guattari.

Resumen
Objective: To compile, review, and comment upon the application of psychotherapy to the treatment of psychiatric disorders first appearing in childhood and adolescence. Method: Representative research papers published over the past 4 decades on the subject of psychotherapy of children and adolescents were compiled. Selection for inclusion in this review was based upon salience to the subject of treatment of child psychiatric disorders. Special consideration was given to large-scale and metaanalytic studies, as well as to studies comparing psychotherapy with other forms of treatment. Results: There is mixed evidence for the efficacy of psychotherapy for child psychiatric disorders. There are few direct comparisons between treatment modalities in the child psychiatric literature. Methodological problems include a history of theoretical development of therapies without reference to current conceptions of mental illness, a paucity of direct comparisons among psychotherapies and between psychotherapy and other psychiatric treatments, inconsistent definition of psychotherapy from study to study, and inconsistency in stated outcome measures. In general, cognitive–behavioural therapies performed better in application to child psychiatric disorders than did insight-oriented therapies. Conclusions: Outcome research in child-oriented psychotherapy is still in its infancy. There are simply too few studies of many therapies and many conditions to draw firm conclusions about efficacy. More work is needed in matching discrete, consistently applied therapies to selected psychiatric pathologies. Questions regarding psychotherapy's potential application to prevention of mental illness and to management of distress surrounding mental illness (as distinct from treatment of the illness itself) remain to be answered.

Resumen
Recently we witness a general tendency to synthesize psychotherapeutic models, as well as, a tendency to explore the effects of psychotherapy on the brain. This article summarizes a large volume of literature on the neuroscientific substrate of psychotherapy starting with scientific findings located in Ancient times till recent literature. The published literature that deals with the effects of psychotherapy on the brain includes studies, usually neuroimaging ones, which examine the neurological aspects of the most popular models of psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy. All researchers draw the conclusion that psychotherapy affects the brain functions, such as neuroplasticity, learning and memory, neurogenesis, mood and emotions, thus leading to an improvement of mental health. The discussion leads to the constitution of a new discipline, the Neuropsychotherapy, whichis promising for the liberation from the grip of psychiatric disorders.

Kenny, Maeve. "Understanding change in psychotherapy : the literature and parents' experiences". Thesis, Canterbury Christ Church University, 2015. http://create.canterbury.ac.uk/13808/.

Texto completo
Resumen
Understanding how change occurs in psychotherapy is imperative in informing clinical practice. Increasing attention has been given to the role that qualitative research could play in enhancing our understanding of therapeutic change. Although quantitative research suggests that parent-child psychotherapy is effective in facilitating change, no research to date has focused on how parents make sense of their change experience. Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis was used to analyse semi-structured interviews of eight parents who had completed parent-child psychotherapy about their understanding of change. Five master themes emerged which encapsulated participant’s understanding of change. These included constructing a survivor narrative, the experience of being understood enabling further understanding, adjusting expectations and practicing acceptance and feeling empowered to relinquish control. The final theme summarised how despite psychotherapy being conceptualised as a ‘precious’ resource, there was a sense that its limitations could negatively impact participant’s wellbeing. The study concluded that meaningful elements of change were identified from the parents’ experience. Findings were discussed in relation to previous research. Limitations and implications for future research and practice were examined.

MacTaggart, JoAnne Kay. "Promoting resilience in psychotherapy interns through supervision| An integrated literature review". Thesis, Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3642966.

Resumen

Psychotherapy interns often report feeling traumatized by the process that attempts to match them with an internship site. Once placed, feeling unsupported in one's supervisory relationship may lead to burnout, which contributes to high rates of attrition. A supportive relationship between supervisors and interns appears significant to the development of their early professional resilience. This integrative literature review asks, "How do therapists at all stages of their career achieve and maintain professional resilience?" and "What is inherent in the supervisory relationship that influences such growth and resilience in interns?"

Literature on psychotherapy supervision, professional trauma, compassion fatigue, and resilience was selected from the psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and existential-humanistic traditions as well as from relational neuroscience. This literature was integrated in such a way as to define, compare and contrast these concepts.

Psychotherapists report a variety of historic traumas that contribute to their choice of psychotherapy as a profession. Therapists also identify as falling on a dynamic spectrum of resilience, reporting both personal and professional protective and risk factors. Psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, and existential-humanistic training and professional models continue to highlight the value of the supervisory and consultant relationship in support of recovery from professional overwhelm toward lasting personal and professional resilience. Therapists at all stages of their career report achieving and maintaining professional resilience by practicing individualized self-care, engaging in dynamic personal psychotherapy, and through supportive relationships in supervision and consultation. The primary element in the supervisory relationship that promotes growth and resilience in interns is the ability of the empathic supervisor to privilege the supervisee's experience in the supervisory relationship as well as with their mutual clients.

A supervisory model emerged that (a) elevates personal history and awareness of an intern's preexisting risk and protective factors, (b) promotes in-session self-awareness, and (c) draws on existential-humanistic theory, leading to the development of resilience. This model serves to support the humanity of the intern and supervisor as evolving professionals while respecting and perhaps enhancing the orientation of the training site.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis has three primary objectives and is organized into two separate but related manuscripts: In the first manuscript, entitled A Review of Client Involvement in Psychotherapy, the goal is to provide a thorough review of the involvement literature and to present a theoretical conceptualization of client involvement that could clarify our understanding of involvement. Specifically, it is argued that client involvement is composed of two facets, the internal and external processes which guide whether a client will participate in therapy. The goal of the second manuscript, which is entitled Factor Analysis and Construct Validity of a Measure of Client Involvement, is to evaluate a factor model of client involvement based on empirical data. The client involvement measure is the Comprehensive Scale of Psychotherapy Session Constructs Client Involvement subscale (CSPSC-CI; Eugster & Wampold, 1996), and it has not previously been independently evaluated. The psychometric properties of this measure were examined. Factor analysis of the CSPSC-CI revealed three interpretable factors: a Client factor, an Active Therapist factor, and a Disengaged Therapist factor. Discriminant and convergent construct validity was also evaluated; the results of the study provide preliminary support for the construct validity of the measure.

This dissertation uses a modified systematic literature review to look at working with parents and carers within child and adolescent psychotherapy, and to consider this tasks relationship to therapeutic outcomes for children and adolescents. The topic is important because psychotherapy with children and adolescents inevitably involves additional relationships. The literature indicates the way this undertaking has been regarded has varied through the history of psychodynamic child and adolescent psychotherapy. Numerous writers reflect on the ongoing neglect and absence of systematic thinking in relation to the task of work with parents and carers. This lack of attention is understood to have been influenced by the traditional model of child and adolescent psychotherapy where the source of the child or adolescent’s distress or difficulty was regarded as being primarily intrapsychic. What is now known regarding the current and active nature of the child or adolescent’s relationship with the parent or carer, and the power and persistence of the parent-child bond has resulted in an acknowledgement of the need for a more equitable balance of focus between internal and external factors. In acknowledging that the external can no longer be seen as peripheral there are compelling clinical reasons to work with parents and carers. This undertaking should not be seen as dependant on the therapist’s orientation or interest. The significant scope of possibilities for work with parents and carers within child and adolescent psychotherapy is explored; however there is a lack of data relating to the clinical effectiveness of these approaches. The future need is for systematic thinking, and the development of practice guidelines for this clinical task.

Young, Alex D. "Problem construction in initial sessions of psychotherapy : a meta-synthesis of existing literature and a critical discourse analysis". Thesis, University of Sheffield, 2016. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/15711/.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis consists of a literature review and a research study. The review used a meta-synthesis to integrate the findings of existing literature on problem construction in initial sessions of psychotherapy. Five main themes were constructed from the studies reviewed: Problems are defined by therapists, Therapists employ rhetorical strategies, Therapists’ use of power and clients’ resistance, Problems are structured and ordered through language, and Problems exist in socio-historical context. A new explanatory model for problem construction in psychotherapy was proposed. Therapists’ problem schemas that were shaped by socio-historical factors and rhetorical strategies involved in realising these schemas were central to the process of problem construction. Epistemological differences in research methodologies generated difficulties in the synthesis of existing research. For the research study, a critical discourse analysis was used to analyse therapist-client problem construction in first sessions of therapy in a trial comparing two psychotherapies for depression. Four stages of analysis were conducted, with the following findings: (1) discursive constructs included how problems were experienced and made sense of; (2) rhetorical strategies were used to pursue agendas by both clients and therapists; (3) subject positions were interactive and could be contradictory for both therapists and clients, they were generally more problem focused for clients and powerful for therapists; (4) therapists and clients reproduced normative discourses from institutions and ideologies shaping their subjectivity. Methodological limitations and recommendations for practice were outlined.

Resumen
This master’s degree thesis exists in two parts: a critical introduction and an original novella entitled Side Effects. The critical introduction introduces and explains the theories on, literature surrounding, and literary uses of dystopian fiction, the novella format, and drug-based psychotherapy. Current opinion on dystopian fiction sees it characterized by a seemingly perfect societal setting that ultimately contains hidden or suppressed moral flaws. The ultimate purpose of dystopian fiction is commentary on contemporary society through a defamiliarized setting. The novella format is shown to exist in a middle-ground state between the short story and the novel, yet the format manages to maintain positive literary elements of both. Finally, a discussion on drug-based psychotherapy illustrates the use of chemical compounds to treat or cure psychological conditions, a topic of much debate amongst current psychology practitioners. The section on drug-based psychotherapy focuses largely on memoirs for purposes of first-hand experience and character creation for the original novella. The novella, entitled Side Effects, follows the character Edward, a middle-aged man who creates and tests serums that suppress by mandate the emotions that his society deems toxic to the human condition. Edward remains ignorant of any life outside the symmetry and order of the Company, the corporation responsible for the maintenance of the society. That is, until a chance encounter with a young woman named Gabrielle causes Edward to explore a world outside the confines of his carefully crafted city and lifestyle. She introduces him to a community of people who reject the mandates of the Company and exist as the extreme opposition to its ideals. As Edward spends more time with this group, known as Splicers, he must confront his long-held standards and finally choose for himself what life he will live.

Resumen
This paper is an investigation into what and how the Gestalt psychotherapy approach has contributed to the leadership in the intervention perspectives. The paper looks into what kinds of leader interventions, according to the research, make a positive influence for the group and its members. There is a gap in the literature in regards to models that link different psychotherapeutic approaches and leader interventions. The findings of this paper present companies' leaders with a mixture and intervention through psychotherapeutic approach (Gestalt psychotherapy). This impact demonstrates how the stages of group development are crucial in making concentrated therapeutic use of the leader variables, therapeutic factors and in making decisions about appropriate interventions. According to the risks and cultural factors across companies, and in order to avoid them, the research conducted in this paper will contain qualitative information. Usually I went through the questions: Which defence mechanism is the best in the current situation? How to lead my team members? How to finish team tasks without feeling aggression for the deadline? What would be therapeutic for this specific individual at this moment?" and "what does the group-as-a-whole need?" To discover and synthesize relevant material, this paper employs a modified systematic literature review. The traditional systematic literature review AIDS in the clarification of two key points. To begin with, they help determine whether findings from several studies on a certain issue are consistent, reliable, and can be applied to larger applications. Second, they help to discover gaps in the research literature, which may then be used to guide the development of future studies and how to affect a leader in a certain organisation using different approaches.

Resumen
The intersection between Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy in several cases has been shown to be beneficial, improving the quality and speed of treatments due to the greater understanding and resources that the two areas together make possible. This project proposes to know, evaluate and understand the implications involving the human being with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as their parents/guardians, in an attempt to improve the quality of life of the subjects involved in this context from awareness of cognitive and behavioral processes. This study is promoted by the Laboratory of Studies in Stigmatization Processes (LEPE) of the Psychology course at CENSA Higher Education Institutes -ISECENSA and presents as a general objective of thisproject to evaluate the importance of Neuropsychology for the psychotherapeutic process of old children in cases of Attention Deficit HyperactivityDisorder (ADHD).The methodology used in the research will be of a qualitative nature. At first, a Literature Review will be carried out to support the researchers views on the topic with the following descriptors: Psychology,Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Cognitive-behavioral Psychotherapy.Afterwards, field research will use the semi-structured interview technique and the application of the ETDAH-PAIS scale. Such instruments will be appliedto ten subjects, parents or guardians of children who have ADHD traits. This research is expected to contribute to the promotion of a better quality of life for subjects with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), as well as for their families. It also intended, at the end of the research, to publish the results collected and analyzed in Revista Perspectivas on line

Resumen
A main problem for the development of students is to have some psychological problems. Such disorders can pose a serious treat to the learning and educational process of the students. In this article we present an intelligent Android system that can help students with such disorders or the psychotherapists that are treating them. The implemented technique is based on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - a recent developed technique in psychology. To the best of our knowledge, there is no such system reported in the existing literature. We are the first to report it. The system can have also an educational role, for example, for the students in psychology. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment designed to cure distress associated with traumatic events and the memories associated with them. Through EMDR the subject must keep his attention on two things, the traumatic event that remained in his memory and a rhythmic bilateral stimulation. This process induces some changes and can stimulate brain areas associated with information processing. The purpose of this technique is to access the traumatic memory network in order to facilitate a new association between the traumatic event and more adaptive information about the event. After a successful treatment distress is relieved, negative thoughts are reinterpreted and physiological arousal is reduced. During the therapy, the client is encouraged to relive, throughout memories, his emotionally disturbing material while focusing on external stimuli like: directed lateral eye movement, hand-tapping or audio sounds. The implications of this procedure are multiple and can be applied both in the field of mental health and education. Our implementation consists of a AI personal assistant who performs EMDR in the form of an Android application. The project has multiple features such as a trained chatbot connected with a speech-to-text engine, an audio EMDR headset, Android app for video EMDR stimulation, etc. In the paper we present the AI engine together with a small pilot student study made for the validation of the tool.

Resumen
Background. Untreated maternal mental health disorders can have devastating sequelae for the mother and child. For women who are currently or planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding, a critical question is whether the benefits of treating psychiatric illness with pharmacologic interventions outweigh the harms for mother and child. Methods. We conducted a systematic review to assess the benefits and harms of pharmacologic interventions compared with placebo, no treatment, or other pharmacologic interventions for pregnant and postpartum women with mental health disorders. We searched four databases and other sources for evidence available from inception through June 5, 2020 and surveilled the literature through March 2, 2021; dually screened the results; and analyzed eligible studies. We included studies of pregnant, postpartum, or reproductive-age women with a new or preexisting diagnosis of a mental health disorder treated with pharmacotherapy; we excluded psychotherapy. Eligible comparators included women with the disorder but no pharmacotherapy or women who discontinued the pharmacotherapy before pregnancy. Results. A total of 164 studies (168 articles) met eligibility criteria. Brexanolone for depression onset in the third trimester or in the postpartum period probably improves depressive symptoms at 30 days (least square mean difference in the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, -2.6; p=0.02; N=209) when compared with placebo. Sertraline for postpartum depression may improve response (calculated relative risk [RR], 2.24; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.95 to 5.24; N=36), remission (calculated RR, 2.51; 95% CI, 0.94 to 6.70; N=36), and depressive symptoms (p-values ranging from 0.01 to 0.05) when compared with placebo. Discontinuing use of mood stabilizers during pregnancy may increase recurrence (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR], 2.2; 95% CI, 1.2 to 4.2; N=89) and reduce time to recurrence of mood disorders (2 vs. 28 weeks, AHR, 12.1; 95% CI, 1.6 to 91; N=26) for bipolar disorder when compared with continued use. Brexanolone for depression onset in the third trimester or in the postpartum period may increase the risk of sedation or somnolence, leading to dose interruption or reduction when compared with placebo (5% vs. 0%). More than 95 percent of studies reporting on harms were observational in design and unable to fully account for confounding. These studies suggested some associations between benzodiazepine exposure before conception and ectopic pregnancy; between specific antidepressants during pregnancy and adverse maternal outcomes such as postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia, and spontaneous abortion, and child outcomes such as respiratory issues, low Apgar scores, persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn, depression in children, and autism spectrum disorder; between quetiapine or olanzapine and gestational diabetes; and between benzodiazepine and neonatal intensive care admissions. Causality cannot be inferred from these studies. We found insufficient evidence on benefits and harms from comparative effectiveness studies, with one exception: one study suggested a higher risk of overall congenital anomalies (adjusted RR [ARR], 1.85; 95% CI, 1.23 to 2.78; N=2,608) and cardiac anomalies (ARR, 2.25; 95% CI, 1.17 to 4.34; N=2,608) for lithium compared with lamotrigine during first- trimester exposure. Conclusions. Few studies have been conducted in pregnant and postpartum women on the benefits of pharmacotherapy; many studies report on harms but are of low quality. The limited evidence available is consistent with some benefit, and some studies suggested increased adverse events. However, because these studies could not rule out underlying disease severity as the cause of the association, the causal link between the exposure and adverse events is unclear. Patients and clinicians need to make an informed, collaborative decision on treatment choices.
