Resumen
AbstractIn this article, we present the findings of an oral history project on the past, present, and future of psychometrics, as obtained through structured interviews with twenty past Psychometric Society presidents. Perspectives on how psychometrics should be practiced vary strongly. Some presidents are psychology-oriented, whereas others have a more mathematical or statistical approach. The originally strong relationship between psychometrics and psychology has weakened, and contemporary psychometrics has become a diverse and multifaceted discipline. The presidents are confident psychometrics will continue to be relevant but believe psychometrics needs to become better at selling its strong points to relevant research areas. We recommend for psychometrics to cherish its plurality and make its goals and priorities explicit.

Resumen
This practical paper is based on a skills session as delivered at the first International Coaching Psychology Conference held in 2006. It commences by discussing the use of psychometrics in general by emphasising the four psychometric principles as hallmarks of a good test; and outlining some of the advantages and potential limitations of psychometrics. In this paper a contemporary instrument, the Saville Consulting Wave®is introduced and its application is discussed in relation to coaching, with particular reference to a performance coaching context at work. It is concluded that no psychometric test is a panacea for each and every situation, but that skilful use greatly enhances the coaching process.

Resumen
Abstract This special section presents the psychometric properties of fidelity scales used in a national mental health services project in Norway to improve the quality of care of people with psychoses. Across Norway, 39 clinical units in six health trusts participated. The project provided education, implementation support and fidelity assessments. The papers in the section address the psychometrics of fidelity measurement for the specific evidence-based practices: illness management and recovery, family psychoeducation, physical healthcare and antipsychotic medication management. Another paper analyzes the psychometrics of a scale measuring individualization and quality improvement that may be used in conjunction with fidelity scales for specific evidence-based practices. The first paper in the section presents the development and field of fidelity scales, and the two final papers with comments add some additional perspectives and discuss fidelity scales in a wider context. The psychometrics of the five scales were good to excellent. Fidelity assessment is a necessary and effective strategy for quality improvement.

Resumen
This study examined the reliability and validity of scores taken from a series of four task simulations used to evaluate medical students. The four role-play exercises represented two different cases or scripts, yielding two pairs of exercises that are considered alternate forms. The design allowed examining what is essentially the ceiling for reliability and validity of ratings taken in such role plays. A multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) matrix was computed with exercises as methods and competencies (history taking, clinical skills, and communication) as traits. The results within alternate forms (within cases) were then used as a baseline to evaluate the reliability and validity of scores between the alternate forms (between cases). There was much less of an exercise effect (method variance, monomethod bias) in this study than is typically found in MTMM matrices for performance measurement. However, the convergent validity of the dimensions across exercises was weak both within and between cases. The study also examined the reliability of ratings by training raters to watch video recordings of the same four exercises who then complete the same forms used by the standardized patients. Generalizability analysis was used to compute variance components for case, station, rater, and ratee (medical student), which allowed the computation of reliability estimates for multiple designs. Both the generalizability analysis and the MTMM analysis indicated that rather long examinations (approximately 20 to 40 exercises) would be needed to create reliable examination scores for this population of examinees. Additionally, interjudge agreement was better for more objective dimensions (history taking, physical examination) than for the more subjective dimension (communication).

Cruz, Robin Flaum. "An empirical investigation of the Movement Psychodiagnostic Inventory". Diss., The University of Arizona, 1995. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/187364.

Texto completo
Resumen
Abnormal motor behavior associated with psychopathology was investigated in this study using a nontraditional inventory, the Movement Psychodiagnostic Inventory, with a sample of psychiatric patients that included personality disorders and individuals with schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorders. The study was designed to address several methodological and measurement problems noted in the literature, and to this end ratings were made from video-taped observations allowing detection of subtle movements described in terms of their dynamic, spatial, rhythmic, and muscular involvement rather than labeled with traditional terminology. In addition, parameters of nonverbal communicative behavior were also rated. Even though diagnostic groups not associated with disturbed motor behavior were included, univariate analysis failed to reveal differences between diagnostic groups with a long history of association with abnormal motor behavior and those without such a history. Multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis were thus employed to uncover the structure of the data in exploratory analyses that used two distance measures and several methods each of multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. Results were interpreted to indicate that different patterns of movement behavior were observed for each group of patients that were not measure- or method-dependent. The results of the study are discussed within the context of the potential for the inventory and the advancement of the study of motor behavior and psychopathology, an area that has the potential to effect progress in diagnosis, etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of mental disorders.

Resumen
Objective: Obesity is one of the leading public health problems worldwide. Obese individuals are often stigmatized and the psychosocial consequences of overweight and obesity are the subject of current research. To detect stigmatizing attitudes towards obese people, the Fat Phobia Scale (FPS) was developed in the USA in the early nineties. In addition, the 14-item short form of the FPS was constructed. The FPS belongs to the most commonly used instruments for measuring negative attitudes towards obese people because of its good psychometric properties. For the recently developed German short form of the FPS, however, the comprehensive investigation of the psychometric properties and the determination of reference values are still pending. Thus, the main objectives of this study were the evaluation of the psychometric quality of the scale as well as the calculation of reference values. Methods: The study was based on a representative survey in the German general population. A sample of 1,657 subjects (18–94 years) was assessed via structured telephone interviews including the 14-item German version of the FPS. Descriptive statistics and inference-statistical analyses were conducted. Reference values in terms of percentage ranks were calculated. Results: Substantial evidence for the reliability and validity of the German short version of the FPS was found. This study, for the first time in Germany, provides age-specific reference values for the German short form of the FPS allowing the interpretation of individual test scores. Conclusion: Facing the far-reaching consequences of experienced stigmatization of obese individuals, these study results provide an important basis for further studies aiming at the investigation of negative attitudes towards overweight and obesity.

Resumen
Statistical skills are deemed important for psychology students as a prerequisite to learn psychometrics. Thus, the aim of the current study was to identify the learning approach that is more likely to result in better retention of statistics prerequisites to learn psychometrics, and to highlight the individual characteristics of students who adopt it. Data were collected from a sample of students enrolled in a psychometrics course and who had previously passed a statistics exam. At the beginning of the course, several scales were administered to measure statistics self-confidence and attitudes, learning approaches, learning conceptions and teaching preferences, and statistics knowledge. Results showed that knowledge was positively associated to a deep approach to learn, and several individual differences were observed between students who decided to use vs not to use this approach. These findings contribute to current state of knowledge on statistics education and they suggest areas of intervention.

Resumen
Access to finance remains a challenge for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Argentina. It is a particularly acute problem among newly created SMEs that have a scant credit record and frequently lack collateral. The authors of this paper carried out a pilot test of an innovative psychometric tool aimed at evaluating credit risk among SME clients of Banco Ciudad de Buenos Aires (BCBA), one of the top three public banks of Argentina. SME responses were compared to their historical repayment records to determine if psychometric-based credit scoring models could help ameliorate the constraints to SME finance. A scorecard based on that information and built using international data results in a Gini coefficient between 20 percent and 40 percent: those SMEs rejected by the psychometricbased scorecard with this Gini coefficient have a probability of defaulting that is three to four times greater than those accepted. Along with other policies to reduce information asymmetry in SME lending, such a tool could help relieve constraints to SME finance in Argentina.

Resumen
Access to finance remains a challenge for some micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Peru, particularly informal enterprises with no borrowing history in the formal financial system. Lenders lack the tools to reach these borrowers with sufficient scale and control over risk due in part to the shortcomings of current screening technologies. For this paper, the authors carried out a pilot test of an innovative psychometric tool aimed at evaluating credit risk for business owners seeking a loan from Financiera Confianza, the fourth largest Empresa Financiera in Peru. Applicant responses were compared to self-reported sales, subsequent loan repayment performance, and credit bureau data to determine if psychometric-based credit scoring models could reduce the constraints on MSME finance. The authors created a scorecard based on that information using data from other countries and evaluated its effectiveness on this sample. It achieved a Gini coefficient of between 20 and 40 percent. Those MSMEs rejected by a psychometrically enhanced application scorecard with this Gini coefficient have a probability of defaulting that is up to four times greater than those accepted by the scorecard. Along with other policies to reduce information asymmetry in MSME lending, such a tool could help relieve constraints on MSME finance in Peru.

This scoping review of studies summarizes the scientific production about the empowering and disempowering motivational climates created by Duda (2013). The search included the, Web of Science, Scopus, Psycinfo, and Pubmed databases for English, Portuguese and Spanish articles published between 2013 and 2022. A total of 44 studies were found, which 22 were included in the present study. From the 22 studies, 16 were cross- sectional studies, 4 were psychometrics validation studies, 1 concerned a transversal cohort study and 1 concerned a qualitative study. The coach-created Empowering and Disempowering motivational questionnaire (EDMCQ-C) is, the most used and with the necessary psychometric qualities when it comes to assessing the empow-ering and disempowering motivational climates and their various impacts. We describe results concerning the measurement, antecedents and effects of empowering and disempowering coach climates and future research should invest in the study of empirical evidence that could be added to the existing nomological framework, considering antecedents, development, direct and indirect effects, moderating effects, aggregated effects and qualitative studies.

Resumen
The Duolingo English Test is a groundbreaking, digitalfirst, computeradaptive measure of English language proficiency for communication and use in Englishmedium settings. The test measures four key English language proficiency constructs: Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening (SWRL), and is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) proficiency levels and descriptors. As a digitalfirst assessment, the test uses “humanintheloop AI” from end to end for test security, automated item generation, and scoring of testtaker responses. This paper presents a novel theoretical assessment ecosystem for the Duolingo English Test. It is a theoretical representation of language assessment design, measurement, and test security processes, as well as the testtaker experience factors that contribute to the test validity argument and test impact. The test validity argument is constructed with a digitallyinformed chain of inferences that addresses digital affordances applied to the test. The ecosystem is composed of an integrated set of complex frameworks: (1) the Language Assessment Design Framework, (2) the Expanded EvidenceCentered Design Framework, (3) the Computational Psychometrics Framework, and (4) the Test Security Framework. Testtaker experience (TTX) is a test priority throughout the testtaking pipeline, such as low cost, anytime/anywhere, and shorter testing time. The test’s expected impact is aligned with Duolingo’s social mission to lower barriers to education access and offer a secure and delightful test experience, while providing a valid, fair, and reliable test score. The ecosystem leverages principles from assessment theory, computational psychometrics, design, data science, language assessment theory, NLP/AI, and test security.

Resumen
Assessments, especially those used for high-stakes decision making, draw on evidence-based frameworks. Such frameworks inform every aspect of the testing process, from development to results reporting. The frameworks that language assessment professionals use draw on theory in language learning, assessment design, and measurement and psychometrics in order to provide underpinnings for the evaluation of language skills including speaking, writing, reading, and listening. This paper focuses on the construct, or underlying trait, of writing ability. The paper conceptualizes the writing construct for the Duolingo English Test, a digital-first assessment. “Digital-first” includes technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, with human expert involvement, throughout all item development, test scoring, and security processes. This work is situated in the Burstein et al. (2022) theoretical ecosystem for digital-first assessment, the first representation of its kind that incorporates design, validation/measurement, and security all situated directly in assessment practices that are digital first. The paper first provides background information about the Duolingo English Test and then defines the writing construct, including the purposes for writing. It also introduces principles underpinning the design of writing items and illustrates sample items that assess the writing construct.

Resumen
In this paper we describe how the language skill of listening is operationalized and measured on the Duolingo English Test (DET). This work is situated in the DET’s theoretical assessment ecosystem (Burstein et al., 2022), a set of evidence-based frameworks that reflect the iterative processes for assessment design, computational psychometrics, and test security. In this ecosystem, the Language Assessment Design Framework stipulates that the domain for tested constructs be described. To achieve this goal, the present paper is one in an ongoing series of skills construct whitepapers that describes the underpinnings for each language skill construct, in this case for listening (see also Park et al., 2022 for reading; Goodwin et al., 2022 for writing; LaFlair et al., 2023 for interactional competence; Park et al., 2023 for speaking). The paper first gives background information on the DET. We then describe the DET’s conceptualization of the second language listening construct using the multi-layered framework of Aryadoust and Luo (2023). Within this framework, we consider how subskills, cognitive processes, attributes (i.e., task and test-taker traits) contribute to the overall listening construct. We also exemplify how these different elements of listening are measured through the DET item types.

Resumen
The Duolingo English Test is a computer adaptive test of English language proficiency. In this paper, a measurement model for the Duolingo English Test is proposed, and its formal characteristics are derived. A scalable real-time rating system, with favorable statistical properties, is proposed and applied to data from the Duolingo English Test to address issues related to differential model fit with respect to item and person characteristics. The results indicate that the signed residual time model fit the test data well, and that there is not evidence of statistical bias toward different groups of test takers.
