Texto completoThe place of East Asia, including South Korea, shifts when one adopts a transnational perspective of analysis. Francophone and Anglophone research in social sciences devoted to psychoanalysis seem to limit their geographical scope to Europe and North America. Although Anglophone psychoanalysts have intensely engaged, since the 1990s, with the question of the supposed globalization of psychoanalysis, they tend to reduce non-Western regions to mere tangible evidence used to claim the universality of the Freudian unconscious. This thesis aims to move away from this double impasse by adopting a history of science perspective. By foregrounding issues of circulation at the intersection of the history of South Korea and that of psychoanalysis, this work seeks to situate psychoanalysis within a South Korean historical context. To this end, we propose to draw on a relatively uncommon concept, that of displacement. We will begin by exploring the primary avenues through which Western psychic sciences were mediated, first during the colonial period (1910-1945) under Japanese influence, and subsequently in South Korea under American supervision (1945-1980). We will then seek to identify the most prominent domains where psychoanalysis has made its mark, whether in intellectual, social, or cultural spheres. By focusing on the historical genealogy of the term chŏngsinbunsŏk — the Korean transliteration of “Psycho-analysis” — we will examine its nomenclature and disciplinary identity within the South Korean context. The dual translation of the prefix "psycho-" as “chŏngsin (精神)” and “simni (心理)”, stemming from the Japanese colonial period and shaped by American psychoanalytic psychiatry, has resulted in a distinctive configuration of the term "psychoanalysis" in South Korea. Lastly, we will shift our focus to the history of the South Korean Freudian movement, particularly the founding of the Korean Psychoanalytic Association (APC) in 1980 in Seoul. Through the abrupt rupture in 2022 between the APC and the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA) regarding the acceptation of psychologists in psychoanalytic training, we will highlight the unique characteristics of the organization of psychic sciences in South Korea

Texto completoEach Country has its own system of criminal investigation, with its own historical and cultural evolution. Despite major changes in Korean society during the twentieth century such as Japanese colonization (1910-1945), division between the north and south of the country (1945), Korean War (1950-1953), the establishment of a military dictatorship by coup d’état(1961), and so on. Korea became a democratic country, continuing even today to democratize its society to remove remnants of past systems that are always present. One of the important points of this democratization is the reform of the judicial system to make the country more just and restore the confidence of the Korean people in it. To understand the current situation, it is necessary to present the evolution of criminal investigation system in Korea throughout its history, particularly the historical formation of the public prosecutors’ service and the national police as the criminal investigative agencies. Also we have to note the importance, for this subject, of Japanese law and French law, because the Korean criminal investigative system is a system strongly influenced by the judicial system of the both foreign countries. However, it is not possible to find a direct influence of French law in the legal history of Korea because Korean law has just borrowed the institutional concepts from French law under the influence of Japanese law (who had adopted the French law to modernize its judicial system during the Meiji period) during the Japanese colonization. Thus, there are some traditional conceptions of French institution in the current Korean system, centralization and hierarchy. The Korean police and the public prosecutors’ service, which are the two main organizations are responsible for dealing with criminal cases, are centralized and they also have hierarchical relationships between them

Texto completoDuring urbanization, it is essential to develop a model of collective housing that adapts to the urban structure. Such a model can be applied easily and abundantly, and can thus respond to population growth. However, today in Seoul one can find a refutation: a large apartment complex called tanji. Although it is a heterogeneous element in the urban structure, it is considered successful: thus it is extensively applied in the city. Despite being isolated from its neighborhood, it works by creating its own independent environment. At the perimeter of the tanji, a sudden urban discontinuity appears. Concerning the evolution of the urban structure, it is not a successful model. Moreover, it has standardized the life of the individual, making Seoul’s urban landscape monotonous. At first, the tanji is built in vacant land, and subsequently it is utilized for the redevelopment of all other problematic urban fabrics. The urban structure thus cannot evolve sequentially and logically, and finally disappears. This process is also brutal, ignoring the lives of original inhabitants. Nonetheless, this process is repeated because there is no multiple dwelling-house model that corresponds well to low-rise housing. In other words, there is no motor for the spontaneous evolution of this urban fabric. Thus, the success of the tanji is partially due to the defects of the existing urban structure. Indeed, as a tool for modernizing housing, tanjis finally interrupt the modernization of the urban structure. Thus, this study reassesses the urban structure of low dwellings, and seeks a way to integrate the tanji into this. Change is now beginning: small tanjis appear in the low-rise residential area. But since tanjis belongs to a closed system, there is no real flow between the areas: in the existing urban fabric, pedestrian alleys (golmoks) act as intermediate space. Thus, the first part asks “How can the tanji become a successful model?” As the principal housing of the middle class, it will separate them from the underprivileged, who remain in lower housing. If capital is not invested, small houses are transformed illegally into small collective housing for rent. Nor is the infrastructure being redesigned. Thus, the low dwellings cannot evolve spontaneously. The second part asks, “Is it possible to develop logically the urban structure instead of the simple replacement by tanji?” and “What is the potentiality of the urban fabric of low dwellings as an alternative to the tanji?” In fact, the modernization of the urban fabric continued throughout the 20th century, influenced by the old Japanese model for urban blocks, which cannot meet today's demands, thus causing declining real estate values. Spontaneous evolution is thus difficult, yet the golmok is a potential space that gives these low dwellings a certain value. The third part asks, “Can the tanji fit into the urban structure?” This begins with the appearance of small tanjis, so that those among lower housing can communicate better with their neighborhood. In fact, big tanjis are considered rather as town plans that develop the neighborhood and even the city. Small tanjis can become a simple type of housing, as apartment blocks enclosed in the tanji can be freed and reintegrated into the city. In addition, open tanji can bring the flow of golmoks, thus evolving toward Korean-style open blocks.Eventually, intensive urbanization requires more intermediate space. Finally, the central problem is now how to respatialize the tanji. Keywords : History and formation of city – Seoul Metropolitan – Urban morphology and urban tissue – Urban landscape – Collective housing : Tanji – Gated community – Intermediate space
