The article focuses on the friendly and creative relations between the Slovenian art historian, poet and essayist Vojeslav Mole (1886– 1973) and the Russian prominent poet, interpreter, literary historian and theorist Yuriy Verhovskiy (1878–1956). Being recruited to army in 1914 Mole got captured almost at once and spent practically six years in Siberia. In 1919 in Tomsk he met Verhovskiy, who translated several of his poems and published them in his book «Sun in captivity» (1922). One of the Mole’s poems in «Tristia ex Siberia» (1922) is devoted «To the friend ― poet Yuriy Nik. Verhovskiy».

This paper is about a poet and two cartographers. The poet is Marianne Moore, one of the most lauded and loved American poets of the twentieth century. In 1924 she published “Sea Unicorns and Land Unicorns,” a poem examining four exotic beasts—narwhals, unicorns, sea lions, lions—and their celebrated, if unreal, relationships to one another. While describing sea unicorns early in the poem, Moore specifies “the cartographers of 1539.” The date can only allude to the Carta Marina of the Swedish mapmaker and historian Olaus Magnus, whose famous 1539 “marine map” features a profusion of Scandinavian land and sea creatures. Moore’s “cartographers of 1539” compels us, in turn, to consider other mapmakers who crowded their maps with animals. The plural phrase also balances and anticipates her comparison, near the end of the poem, of the unicorn and “an equine monster of an old celestial map.” Though vague, the simile may suggest the winged figure of Pegasus on a celestial chart by Peter Apian. This popular German cartographer and astronomer originally designed his chart in 1536, then reproduced it—a year after the Carta Marina—in his exquisite Astronomicum Caesareum (1540). In the end, Moore’s portrayal of animals in “Sea Unicorns and Land Unicorns” captures the spirit that animated mapping, art, and science during the sixteenth-century Age of Exploration.

Resumen
Letters of the poet Mikhail Isakovsky to the literary historian Anatoly Abramov (1917–2005) published in this article constitute a portion of the poet’s extensive epistolary legacy. The two selected letters dated 1968 are mainly concerned with the poet Aleksey Prasolov (1930–1972), whose literary career Abramov actively supported. Having approached Isakovsky for an opinion about the Voronezh-based poet’s verses, Abramov received very harsh feedback. There can be a number of reasons why the poems, some later recognised as Prasolov’s best, were dismissed by Isakovsky: the fact that the two poets belonged to very different poetic generations and traditions and adhered to disparate aesthetic principles may have played a key role here. A poet of a traditional folk-poetic formation, Isakovsky rejected Prasolov’s verses, whose poetics is directly influenced by Blok’s modernist experimentations. Isakovsky expected Prasolov, an author of challenging complexity, to write about subjects easily recognisable and clear to the reader. Thus, incompatible ideas about a poet’s purpose and dissimilarity of poetic languages precluded the two remarkable poets from ever meeting in person.

This article deals with the problem of interpreting the third book of the poem ‘Praises of God” (De Laudibus Dei) by the late antique Carthaginian poet Blossius Aemilius Dracontius. Since the poem is formally of theological character, researchers usually regard it as a Christian anti-pagan manifesto. However, comparison with other works by Dracontius, including the epyllia ‘The Abduction of Helen’ (De Raptu Helenae), ‘The Tragedy of Orestes’ (Orestis Tragoedia), and ‘Medea”, as well as ‘The Atonement’ (Satisfactio), written in prison as a verse plea for mercy, allows us to see in it political allegories that highlight other challenges relevant to the author’s contemporary period. In particular, Dracontius has in mind the collapse of the Roman Empire and the emergence of barbarian kingdoms, the associated redistribution of spheres of influence, and the struggle for power between the old and new elites. Manipulating textbook historical and mythological plots, the Roman poet constructs a didactic model focused on both of these groups in the Vandal kingdom, one that allows him to consider himself a significant political influencer. The conclusions of the article shed light on the relationship between the “intellectual” Roman and the “military” Vandal noble groups in North Africa at the turn of the 5th and 6th centuries.

AbstractLucian’s work De historia conscribenda not only presents reflections on how one should or should not write history, but also illustrates possible ways to represent the authorial activity of a historian (i. e. how one writes ‘metahistory’). In this, two basic forms can be distinguished, both of which can be understood from a narratological perspective as metalepses. In the first case, the historian is represented as the direct originator of the action; in the second he acts as a mere observer, but one who moves spatially in and with his action. Both forms of statement stand within traditions of motifs that can be traced from antiquity through to the modern era; yet Lucian nonetheless makes an innovative contribution by inscribing value judgements into the motifs. The result is the suggestion that the historian fulfils the role of observer, while the role of originator turns out to be more apt for the poet than for the historian. This permits far-reaching conclusions to be drawn about the conception of poetry and historiography as a whole.

Abstract In his poem »Memento«, Hinko Gottlieb (1886–1948) – a lawyer and a poet – portrayed a trait of his contemporary and companion Lavoslav Schick (1881–1941) – a historian and a lawyer too – with wit and humor. His approach is biographically, at the same time he uses irony to make fun of Schick’s own biographical approaches to other Croatian Jews. As a result of the analysis of this commemorative poem, published in 1934, questions are raised about the source value of a satirical poem. Likewise, about the meaning, form and about (political) intentions of biographical depictions in general. For the contemporaries, but also for today’s researches.

As a poet, the parish priest Johannes Valentini (Turčiansky Michal, 1756 – Kláštor pod Znievom, 1812) is very much tied to the other Neo-Latin priest-poets living in Hungary and the other countries of the Habsburg Empire by the tradition of laudation in occasional poetry, which flourished from the antiquity until the end of the 19th century and was a tool to praise or mourn religious superiors or secular patronising potentates. Valentini, however, is different from the other poets in his very extensive interest in prehistory. When he poeticises the history of the provostry of Thurocz, he engages in lengthy explanations which are far bigger in size than the poem itself, and are also supplemented with footnotes.From a viewpoint of history of science this approach is probably connected mostly to the research initiated by the Jesuit historian Georgius Papánek, but Valentini’s work – similarly to authors of all other nationalities of that time in the Kingdom of Hungary – of course contains mythical and legendary elements, to which he naturally utilizes the reports of antique Greek and Roman writers about Eastern-origin exotic peoples. The Nagykároly (Carei, Szatmár county)-based Ferdinandus Thomas, for example, derives the origin of Hungarians from Ethiops! But we can name examples from either Romanian or South Slav literatures.Valentini is of high significance, because in many ways he – with his poet colleagues, writing in Slovak or other language – clears the way for Orientalism, an important trend of European Romanticism.

The author characterizes life and creative work of Oleksandr Buchynskyi-Yaskold, who belonged to Chernihiv literature school of the 2ndhalf of the 17thc., headed by Lazar Baranovych, the archbishop of Chernihiv and Novhorod-Siverskyi. Special attention is drawn to the poem “Chyhyryn”, dedicated to hetman Ivan Samoilovych, in which the poet vividly described a historic episode of the fight of cossacks against Turkish forces, who tried to capture the capital of Right-Bank Ukraine, Chyhyryn. The poem is filled with examples of cossacks’ bravery, their military spirit. The historic exactness of described events impressed Samiilo Velychko, a historian of the 17th-18thc., who in his “Chronicle” uses the text of Oleksandr Buchynskyi-Yaskold’s poem in his narrative about the first march of Ottoman Turkish army with Crimean Tatars against Cossacks, who defended Chyhyryn, The combination of two texts in “Chronicle” contributed to more fundamental and exact representation of historical events.

AbstractThis article examines Spanish and Portuguese liberal political thought in the period after the independence of Latin America (c. 1825–50). It argues that while Iberian liberalism undoubtedly reflected broader European and transatlantic debates and intellectual trends, it was distinguished by its robust engagement with literary romanticism. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo establecer la relación de correspondencia entre César Vallejo y el insigne historiador Luis Eduardo Valcárcel Vizcarra, lo cual nos demuestra una vez más la atención especial que César Vallejo prestaba a los escritores peruanos y al Perú. A partir de las tres cartas, aún inéditas, halladas en el archivo del ilustre historiador, pertenecientes a la última etapa en vida del poeta; puede advertirse su reafirmación de fe “por los trances, pasados y presentes, de mi raza que están ligados a la arqueología e historia, solidarizándose plenamente con sus esfuerzos al servicio de los valores y derroteros indígenas de nuestro pueblo”. Al leer detenidamente su correspondencia en general, y estas en particular, vamos a encontrar que la comunicación que sostenía con los poetas y escritores peruanos, a propósito de la edición de los libros de estos, opera en él un cambio total; hay un tono celebratorio, fraternal y de adhesión espiritual permanente. Abstract The objective of this work is to establish the correspondence between our universal poet and the distinguished historian Luis E. Valcarcel (Luis Eduardo Valcárcel Vizcarra), which shows and demonstrates once again the special attention that César Vallejo paid to Peruvian writers and to Peru. From three letters, still unpublished, found in the illustrious historian´s archive, belonging to the last stage of the poet’s life, one can notice his reaffirmation of faith “by the vicissitudes, past and present, of my race that are linked to archaeology and history, in full solidarity with their efforts to serve the values and indigenous paths of our people”. On reading his correspondence in general and this one in particular, we will find that the communication he maintained with Peruvian poets and writers regarding the publication of their books, operates in him a total change; there is a celebratory tone, fraternal and of permanent spiritual attachment. The article is devoted to the poet, translator and literary historian Pavel Petrovich Filip(p)ovich (1891–1937). Filipovich is known as the most outstanding figure in Ukrainian culture of the 1920s –1930s.: a poet who was a member of the “neoclassics” association, a translator into Ukrainian of poems by Pushkin and Bryusov, a researcher of Ukrainian literature. The Russian-language heritage of Filippovich is less well-known: under his real name he studied the works of Baratynsky, and under the pseudonym P. Zorev published his poetry in modernist magazines. The dictionary article about Philip(p)ovich sheds light on little-known pages of his creative biography of the Russian period.

Abstract Imre József Balázs is a Hungarian poet, literary critic, editor and literary historian from Romania. His main subject of interest and research area is the Hungarian avant-garde from Romania. His research and work prove his attachment to Romanian literature as well - especially with the avant-garde. For example, he deals with Gellu Naum’s poems for children and their translation. Thus, he fulfils the role of a mediator between Hungarian and Romanian literature not only through his studies and academic papers written in Romanian, but also through his contributions to the appearance of Hungarian poets in literary anthologies written in Romanian language. Furthermore, he plays an important role in publishing the Hungarian translations of Romanian poetry, thus becoming a mediator between the Hungarian and Romanian cultures.

The recently canonised Dutch Carmelite Titus Brandsma (1881–1942), World War II martyr, mystic, Catholic journalist and historian of spirituality, was also – what is less known – a talented poet. The article recalls his early occasional poetry, written in Dutch and Frisian between 1898 and 1906 for members of his immediate family. Its literary characteristics are presented, demonstrating that this poetry is a valuable testimony to the saint’s views on human life from an eschatological perspective, including topics on the family, marriage, and the relationship between children and parents. This justifies recognising St. Titus Brandsma’s occasional poetry as an expression of his unique poetic theology of the family. The article also includes an English translation of a hitherto untranslated poem by St. Titus Brandsma.

Abstract Vladimir Mikhailovich Khvostov is one of the famous, thoroughly educated Russian historians. In his scientific heritage are widely represented lots of works on the history of diplomacy and international relations, on the study of major problems of General and national history. He himself defined that the most important secret of his life was his childhood and the inspiration for the poetry of the “Prophet”, the poem of Alexander Pushkin, the father of modern Russian literature. This poem was the most unusual incident in a highly Christian society two centuries ago, with its poet, the most unusual figure among the elite and the aristocracy. Poetry and poetry presented a transformative image of the Prophet that did not conform to the official description of the Gospel and the Torah, but rather resembled the Muslim definitions of their Prophet. The paper deals with Shevchenko’s theme in Mykola Storozhenko’s memoirs “From My Life” and in his letters to Panteleimon Kulish. The author of the paper believes that this issue was marginal for the historian, as Storozhenko’s attitude towards the poet was ambivalent. After all, in articles on historical issues, Mykola Storozhenko quoted Shevchenko only once without giving his name.Special attention is paid to the authorship of the paper “An Episode from the Life of T. Shevchenko”, which researchers now attribute to Mykola Storozhenko based on the signature ‘С-кo’. It is noteworthy that he did not mention this episode in his memoirs, writing about dance evenings in Moisivka, as well as in the publication about his grandmother Maria Korsun. While Mykola’s authorship is the most probable, there are some arguments in favor of his brother’s authorship. Andrii Storozhenko signed his publications with the signature ‘C-кo, A.’. He was interested in Shevchenko’s artistic heritage, ancient portraits and understood the importance of Shevchenko for the Ukrainian idea, despite the fact of creating the caricature character of the poet in his work “The Ukrainian Movement”, which is still used by Russian propaganda in its fight against the ‘Ukrainian separatism’. The article also deals with the problem of perceiving Shevchenko as a natural talent without proper education. It is evidenced by the letter of Mykola Storozhenko tо Panteleimon Kulish. The author is inclined to explain the vitality of the thesis about the poet’s ignorance and poor literacy by the dual Russian-Ukrainian identity which was widespread among the contemporary intellectuals of Dnieper Ukraine and rooted in their sense of inferiority.

A historian, soldier, diplomat, journalist, poet, translator, and politician, Bartolomé Mitre (1821-1906) stood out among the most renowned figures of late nineteenth century Latin America. “He is a full handsome man,” declared one of his many European admirers in 1861, “of very eloquent appearance with a fine forehead and thoughtful face. He is a poet and a scholar, and looks altogether too refined and gentlemanly to be mixed up with the dirty doings of second-rate politicians.” Forty years later, Carlos Pellegrini, a former president of Argentina and one of Mitre's leading political opponents, described him as “the most powerful caudillo of our time” who possessed “an aura of personal valor that he imposed on the multitude.” To an American hagiographer writing in the 1940s, Mitre was a “poet in action,” and a “heart in unison with his time and his country.… In the unification of his country, Mitre displayed the astuteness of a Cavour and the ardency of a Garibaldi.”

Has the Grundtvig Society Neglected Grundtvig the Poet?By Gustav AlbeckThis paper, also read to the annual Conference of the Grundtvig Society, involved a detailed survey of the literature on Grundtvig as a poet, both before and after the foundation of the Grundtvig Society. Initially the three grundtvigians Frederik Nielsen, Frederik Rønning and Holger Begtrup were dwelt on, and next the chapter on Grundtvig in Vilhelm Andersen’s Illustreret Dansk Litteraturhistorie III is mentioned along with Hans Brix’s account in Danske Digtere and the important monographs on Grundtvig by Edvard Lehmann, the historian of religion, and Hal Koch, the ecclesiastical historian, which books have little to say about Grundtvig the poet. Indeed, as Albeck points out, for long Grundtvig was not rated on the literature exchange of Copenhagen. To Brandes he was nothing but a pest, though he recognized that he ranked among the giants of Danish intellectual life. H. S. Vodskov, the critic, was among the first to afford Grundtvig recognition, as did L. C. Nielsen, the poet. It is, however, Paul V Rubow, who as a professor of literature called for research on Grundtvig based on true scholarship that might bring to light new knowledge about Grundtvig, and particularly about the poet.Albeck claims that research on Grundtvig already began in the Thirties with minor contributions by Emil Frederiksen and Magnus Stevns. Owing to the German occupation 1940-1945, however, the interest in Grundtvig increased, and in 1947 the Grundtvig Society (hereinafter GS) was founded by a group numbering as many literary scholars as theologians. The registration of Grundtvig’s unpublished papers, running to thirty volumes, was completed 1956-1964, the feat of a team-work including philologists and theologians, which had the support of the GS and the Danish Society for Language and Literature. Scholars in the humanities were in special pursuit of papers that might throw light on Grundtvigs profane work, and particularly his poetry. An edition of Grundtvig’s diaries and books of excerpts, undertaken by Gustav Albeck and published in colloboration with the Danish Society for Language and Literature, was one achievement, but so far one has not succeeded in bringing out a complete edition of Grundtvig’s letters. Chr. Thodberg has published the bulk of Grundtvigs sermons. But Albeck misses studies of Grundtvig’s poetry after Helge Toldberg’s doctoral thesis. The poet Poul Borum’s book on “Grundtvig The Poet” (1983) he considers an exception, while pointing to Flemming Lundgreen Nielsen, Det handlende ord (1980). Particularly Albeck regrets the omission of attention to Grundtvig as a poet in the book that was published in English, French and German by the Danish Society under the editorship of members of the GS for the Grundtvig Bicentenary in 1983. He does admit, though, that Grundtvig the poet, is present both in Flemming Lundgreen Nielsen’s chapter, “Grundtvig and Romanticism” and in Chr. Thodberg’s two chapters, “Grundtvig the Hymnwriter” and “Grundtvig the Preacher - the Poet in the Pulpit”.

Autorka zwróciła uwagę na teksty kaliskiego publicysty poruszające tematykę statusu zwierząt w dziewiętnastym wieku. Animals in the nineteenth-century journalism and literature by Adam Chodyński Adam Chodyński, „Kaliszanin”, 19th century The aim of the article is to present the figure of a Polish lawyer, poet, literary historian, regionalist, historian of Kalisz, journalist, co-founder of „Kaliszanin” – Adam Chodyński, and to draw attention especially to his journalistic work on the relationship between humans and animals. In recent years, the interest in various contexts of influencing the „animal studio” in contemporary culture and in ecocriticism has become more and more visible. An interesting aspect is also the place of animals in the world, not only today, but also in the past. The author drew attention to the texts of the Kalisz columnist on the subject of the status of animals in the nineteenth century.

This article focuses on the Icelandic-American identity of Bill Holm (1943–2009), American poet and essayist. It explores the twofold identity of an American writer, who was a grandson and a great-grandson of immigrants in the Upper Midwest. Writing from his background in rural and small-town Minnesota, and from his return trips to Iceland, Bill Holm developed what historian Jon Gjerde (1953–2008) referred to as a “complementary identity.” Holm was especially interested in the farmer-poet and worker-intellectual, both in his local Icelandic-American community and in Iceland. As an Icelandic-American writer, Holm had the benefit of using his knowledge of, and his extensive reading of, both Icelandic and American literature in his own experiences and his writing. Both Snorri Sturluson and Walt Whitman providedhim with a useful past.

The article examines the issue of the formation of the historiosophical and culturological concept "Russia as the North", born to a large extent in connection with the philosophical understanding of the life and work of the Russian scientist and poet Mikhail Lomonosov. The author believes that a significant contribution to this process of Russian self-identification was made at the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th centuries. such intellectuals as the writer and public figure Mikhail Nikitich Muravyov (1757–1807), the historian and writer Nikolai Mikhailovich Karamzin (1766–1826) and the poet Konstantin Nikolayevich Batyushkov (1787–1855). The article analyzes literary and journalistic texts, variously associated with the name of Lomonosov, which formed the basis of the concept of "Russian Northerness".

On the 8th of July 2018 died Janusz Wałek, art historian, museologist, pedagogue, born in 1941 in Bobowa. He graduated from the Jagiellonian University, the history of art faculty. In 1968, he started working in the Czartoryskis’ Museum – Branch of the National Museum in Krakow, where some time after he became a head of the European Painting Department for many years. He was a lecturer at the Fine Arts Academy, the National Academy of Theatre Arts and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. He wrote two books and numerous articles about art. He was also a poet, the winner of the Main Prize in the 1997 edition of the General Polish Poetry Competition. He was a student of Marek Rostworowski, they worked together on a number of publicly acclaimed exhibitions: “Romanticism and Romanticity in Polish Art of the 19th and 20th centuries”, “The Poles’ Own Portrait”, “Jews – Polish”. Many exhibitions and artistic shows were prepared by him alone, inter alia “The Vast Theatre of Stanisław Wyspiański”, presentations of artworks by great artists: Goya, Rafael, Titian, El Greco. He also created a few scenarios of permanent exhibitions from the Czartoryskis’ Collection – in Krakow and in Niepołomice – being a great expert on this collection. “Europeum” – European Culture Centre was organised according to the programme written by him. He specialised mostly, although not exclusively, in art and culture of the Renaissance. Janusz Wałek is presented herein as a museologist who was fully devoted to art, characterised by: creativity, broad perception of art and culture, unconventional approach to museum undertakings, unusual sensitivity and imagination. What the author of the article found worth emphasising is that J. Wałek talked and wrote about art not only as a scholar, but first of all as a poet, with beauty and zest of the language he used.

The article is devoted to the study of the literary heritage of the famous poet, philosopher, historian Mashhur Zhusup Kopeyuly, who lived in the second half of the XIX-early XX centuries. The more complicated the fate of the poet, more accurately describing the social realities of his time and the situation of life in the country, the more difficult his works reached the people. Briefly considering the poet's work from the first articles, the article analyzes the creative path of a famous scientist now working in the field of popular science. Mashhur Zhusup Kopeevich was a famous person of his time, a spiritual leader, and a master of deep teachings. The name of mashhur Zhusup remained in the heart of the country not only for his poetry, but also for his Holy, devout, piety and amazing way of life, unlike anyone else. The poet's work, through its rich channels of spiritual experience, saturates the people with religious and moral values. In accordance with the domestic demand of the population for the works of the poet, the research channels of Mashkhurtu are also expanding.

Manuscripts of Kajetan Koźmian’s Poetry in the Academic Library of the Polish Academy of Art and Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences Collection The Academic Library of the Polish Academy of Art and Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences collection contains a great number of works by a poet Kajetan Koźmian (1771–1856). Especially valuable are the authorial manuscripts of the writer’s works. The paper deals with some chosen autographs of K. Koźmian’s poems available in the Academic Library of the Polish Academy of Art and Sciences and the Polish Academy of Sciences. An annex has been added at the end – a publication of K. Koźmian’s poem Cantata for the Coronation of Napoleon after the author’s manuscript which has yet to become a subject of any academic research. The paper discusses the following authorial manuscripts of K. Koźmian’s poems with some elements of analysis: To Zygmunt Krasiński (Poem I), To Wincent Krasiński in 1843, An Anacreontic to S. The chaotic period of the American Revolution engaged many writers on both sides of the Atlantic arguing for and against the claims of the American colonists. One of the most popular and effective statements of the British position regarding the rebellion emerged from James Macpherson, poet of Ossian, historian, and government writer. As an accomplished literary talent in the service of politics, Macpherson wrote the pamphlet, The Rights of Great Britain Asserted against the Claims of America (1775), designing a persuasive appeal to the British public for preserving order and supporting the Monarchy. Macpherson displays a controlled, often dispassionate voice in dealing with the American rebellion, while seeking humane solutions with creativity, conviction, and agility in an environment of popular discontent and political instability. Finally, as a poet, he insisted on balancing the historian's empirical demand for facts with sensitivity and a liberal spirit of dialogue often in opposition to the dominant opinion of his King and ministers.

A publication of journal entries left by the German psychiatrist A. Dietrich, who for years studied the poet K. Batyushkov’s mental illness (caused by multiple intermarriages in the family) and supervised his treatment at the Sonnenstein psychiatric asylum. The publication is compiled and supplied with a preface and comments by the poet and literary historian G. Shulpyakov. The level of detail in the doctor’s notes gives an idea of the sick poet’s condition and helps to reconstruct the hospital routine that surrounded Batyushkov in the 1820s. The comments shed light on the poet’s family life and his relationship with sisters Aleksandra and Yulia, his brother Pompey, and contemporaries such as V. Zhukovsky and N. Karamzin. Batyushkov mentions their names in his every interaction with the clinic’s staff — evidence of an unrelenting loss of sanity: at one point, he insists that Zhukovsky ‘has visited him accompanied by his wife’; at another, he takes a random visitor for his paternal half-brother.

Resumen
The introduction of the paper covers the cognitive connections and similarities in the points of views of Yunus Emre, Mashkhur Zhussip and Qozha Akhmet Yassuyi. The poet Yunus Emre inferred the most reliable way to reach out to Allah is to love Allah, and it is not difficult to notice the essence of this view in the works of Mashkhur Zhussip who was a chronologist, historian, poet and ethnographer. Both of them gave a priority on the topics, such as life, death, wealth, fate and truth which human thinks upon. The paper discusses how they clearly and fairly stated human life and fate issues via elaborating mysteries in the essence of those topics. The paper presents both Mashkhur Zhussip and Yunus Emre called for people to strive for achieving perfection by managing their dissatisfaction through the instances in the main body of the paper. It justifies their creativity does not select a nation but focuses on all human values. The primary concept in the philosophy of Yunus Emre as well as Mashkhur Zussip is to love humans. Indeed we cannot say there are so many poets honouring and loving humans in the world literature. From their compositions, we are aware that these poets achieved to thinking level on humanism several centuries ago before the western purposed it. Yunus Emre and Mashkhur Zhussip considered values from all human values and positioned all are human despite their religion, language and ethnicity. Their works covering these views are thoroughly discussed in the main body of the paper. In the conclusion of the paper, we attempted to prove that the common thoughts met in all their poems are humanity, justice, acting by thinking and maintaining humanity and their effort were devoted to developing human spirit by giving examples from their poems.

Resumen
The paper focuses on the essayistic output of Joanna Pollakówna, a poet and a historian of art, an author of several books of sketches devoted to European painting. It draws attention to the necessity of reading her poetry and essays – which are inseparable and illuminate one another – in a parallel way. The first part of the article analyses the way of treating art typical of Pollakówna: the experience of reception which reveals the following of the illumination, the awareness of significance, and mystery. The paper shows that the poet’s strategy towards the mystery of beauty consists in launching the empathic imagination capable of capturing the fleeting experience which seems to escape. The response to painting – which goes beyond the level of interpretation and chooses ‘adding’ rather than cataloguing meanings – is treated, after Didi-Huberman, as “capturing through the visible”, which leads to “producing and transforming”. The second part of the article is devoted to selected essays which manifest the transition from the intuition of mystery to the in-depth and creative answer of imagination: imagination following not only the work of art, but also the artist, the interesting relationship between them. References are made, for instance, to the private archive of the poet and her notes from art galleries. The reception of Pollakówna’s work is discussed in the conclusion of the paper. Quoting the voices of critics and the private correspondence of the poet with editors (which remains unpublished), one may argue that the essayistic method of the poet has been both acclaimed and not comprehended.
