Texto completoAeroelastic instabilities of steel strips impinged by arrays of cooling gas jets have becomeone of the main issues in cooling sections of continuous annealing lines. Indeed, the new steeltreatments require very high temperature variation rates which involve increases in jetvelocities that are likely to onset some aeroelastic instabilities. Strip flutter and divergencehave already been observed and identified. These two aeroelastic instabilities imply a strongrisk of contact with the blowing boxes, which can seriously blemish the strip. An experimental test rig was designed and built in order to analyze and predict of theseinstabilities. From observations, the strip’s structural dynamics was simulated by a rigidrotation mode. The rig included a forced oscillating plate which is impinged by an array ofaxisymmetric jets having the exact industrial geometry. The plate was instrumented withpressure sensors to measure the steady and unsteady surface pressures. The impingement ofinteracting jets creates very large pressure gradients on the plate and therefore a tight mesh ofpressure taps (91 over an 18cm² jet impingement surface) was necessary to allow a goodestimation of the aerodynamic loads The plate could also be moved in the three coordinatedirections as to obtain surface mappings of the unsteady jet forces and aeroelastic coefficientscan be obtained over a wide area and different jet-to-plate distances. The variation of the impinging aerodynamic forces was established as a function of the jetto-plate distance for different nozzle geometries. These results were used to determine the jetstatic stability in plunging motion. Velocity and turbulence measurements in free jets werecarried out using hot wire anemometry in order to determine their statistical properties.Aeroelastic coefficient measurements were carried out on the oscillating plate with onlyone nozzle geometry and different reduced velocities. Results show that the plate’s stability ismainly dependent on the boundary effects. Post processing methods are suggested in order toapply the results to larger plates. Results are compared to the data of Regardin et al. (réf. [1])and emphasize some discrepancies with respect to the real case. Finally some improvementsto the test-rig are suggested for it to be more representative of the industrial situation

Texto completoIn this thesis we study the flat model, the main buidling block for the spinfoam ap- proach to quantum gravity, with an emphasis on its divergences. Besides a personal introduction to the problem of quantum gravity, the manuscript consists in two part. In the first one, we establish an exact powercounting formula for the bubble divergences of the flat model, using tools from discrete gauge theory and twisted cohomology. In the second one, we address the issue of spinfoam continuum limit, both from the lattice field theory and the group field theory perspectives. In particular, we put forward a new proof of the Borel summability of the Boulatov-Freidel-Louapre model, with an improved control over the large-spin scaling behaviour. We conclude with an outlook of the renormalization program in spinfoam quantum gravity

Texto completoSpecialization in different environments is a driver of divergence between populations and species. Phytophagous insects are interesting candidates to study the speciation process via the ecological specialization, due to the intimate relationship between the insects and their host plant but also the regular occurrence of host changes they experienced during evolution. Ecological speciation requires three important components: a source of divergent selection, a form of reproductive isolation either pre- or post-zygotic, and a mechanism linking the genes under selection to those responsible of the reproductive isolation. In this context, we studied the reproductive isolation and specialization in two models polyphagous lepidopteran pests: (1) the European corn borer, Ostrinia nubilalis, and the closely related species Ostrinia scapulalis, (2) two host races of Spodoptera frugiperda (the fall armyworm), rice strain (sf-R) and corn strain (sf-M). Both models showed a patterns of diversification via the host plant: both species sisters and the two strains are genetically differentiated and are specialized on different host plants (maize for O. nubilalis and sf-M; mugwort for O. scapulalis; rice sf-R). We studied the patterns of specialization of these models by quantification of life history traits in two time points of their life-cycles: (1) in the larval instar, by reciprocal transplant experiments, (2) in the adult, by choice oviposition experiment. These measures highlighted a pattern of specialization at the adult and/or larval instar for both moth species and sf-M. However, the results showed no clear specialization for sf-R of S. frugiperda on the tested plants. We investigated the mechanisms of specialization by RNA-seq in order to identify the genes or the gene families for which variation of their expression depends on the host plant. This mechanistic study revealed genes involved in detoxification, digestion and immunity process that may explain the differences observed in life history traits. Finally, we quantified various barriers (pre- and post-zygotic) to estimate the divergence degree and the causes involved in reproductive isolation of genetic entities studied. In particular, for the two models, we found evidences of post-zygotic barriers with a lower percentage of hatching in the interspecific crosses. In Ostrinia model, we have also demonstrated the presence of pre-zygotic barrier depending of the pheromone blend emitted by the females

Texto completoThe North Tanzania Divergence (NTD) is characterized by a significant change in the structure of the Eastern, branch of the East African Rift (EAR). The rift morphology moves from an unique n-s axial valley to three diverging arms on which a remarkable neogene volcanic chain is superimposed, enclosing major volcanoes such as the Kilimanjaro. A detailed volcano-structural study is presented on this key area of the ear, which combines tectonic, petrological and geochemical results. We propose a new model for the spatial and temporal evolution of the NTD volcanism and deformation, characterized by a global migration to the East with time. Located in a key zone, the Kilimanjaro volcano has been studied into details. The determination of seventeen new k-ar ages, allows us to constrain the volcanic processes affecting its three main vents using petrological and geochemical tools, we propose that the magmas originated from an heterogeneous lithospheric mantle source, containing amphibole and garnet in the residual mineralogy. We also show that the lithosphere under this volcan have acquired its geochemical characteristics during two different metasomatic events. Applied to the whole NTD, this approach allows to decipher between those different processes at a regional scale. In the Eastern area, magmatism present geochemical characteristics 0f recent metasomatism by an upwelling plume. In the Western part, most of the magmas present signatures linked to an old lithospheric mantle, thermally reactivated by the recent activity of a plume. The structural inheritance seems to play a key role in regards of the nature and localization of the neogene magmatism in the NTD

Texto completoThree-dimensional echocardiography is one of the most widely used modality in real time heart imaging thanks to its noninvasive and low cost. However, the real-time property is limited because of the limited speed of sound. To increase the frame rate, plane wave and diverging wave in transmission have been proposed to drastically reduce the number of transmissions to reconstruct one image. In this thesis, starting with the 2D plane wave imaging methods, the reconstruction of 2D/3D echocardiographic sequences in Fourier domain using diverging waves is addressed. The main contributions are as follows: The first contribution concerns the study of the influence of transmission scheme in the context of 2D plane wave imaging. A dichotomous transmission scheme was proposed. Results show that the proposed scheme allows the improvement of the quality of the reconstructed B-mode images at a constant frame rate. Then we proposed an alternative Fourier-based plane wave imaging method (i.e. Ultrasound Fourier Slice Beamforming). The proposed method was assessed using numerical simulations and experiments. Results revealed that the method produces very competitive image quality compared to the state-of-the-art methods. The third contribution concerns the extension of Fourier-based plane wave imaging methods to sectorial imaging in 2D. We derived an explicit spatial transformation which allows the extension of the current Fourier-based plane wave imaging techniques to the reconstruction of sectorial scan using diverging waves. Results obtained from simulations and experiments show that the derived methods produce competitive results with lower computational complexity when compared to the conventional delay and sum (DAS) technique. Finally, the 2D Fourier-based diverging wave imaging methods are extended to 3D. Numerical simulations were performed to evaluate the proposed method. Results show that the proposed approach provides competitive scores in terms of image quality compared to the DAS technique, but with a much lower computational complexity

The first part deals with the calculation and the numerical evaluation of the holomor¬phic invariants of tangent to identity diffeomorphisms, in the type-case. ln particular, we display here three methods of numerical computation whose the last is based on an ex¬plicit formula of invariants. The second part deals with a général study of multitangents and relations between them. They are I-periodic functions, generalizing Eisenstein series and defining a symetr~l mould. There are others relations, like the reduction into monotangents which point out to us a profound link between multitangents and multiz~tas values. Properties and conjec¬tures of purely algebraic, arithmetical or analytical kirig are then explain

Texto completoThis master's thesis is part of the practice of lanscape architecture, urban design and urban planning. The research is built around a questioning of the role of professional of these practices in consideration of uses in the process of planning of Montreal's public squares project. A double case study and comparative analysis allows to see how is the transition from programming instead the appropriation of space thanks to the work of the professionals involved in the various phases of the project, including uses and activities not specifically provided but made possible by the nature of the infrastructure development. Places Gérald- Godin (Plateau Mont-Royal's borough) and Simon-Valois (Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve's borough) have been chose because they are located in neighborhoods with residential vocation and their quite recent development. These projects are interesting because they contribute in the upgrading of their respective district and the provision of quality public space. However, the internationalization of cities and the commodification position in a competitive context where urban renewal is an important issue. Consequently, the main problems that motivates this research is that of the urban renewal, the collective identity and appropriation of public space.

Texto completoBecause of its low cost, versatility and safety, echocardiography has become the most common imaging technique to assess the cardiac function. The recent success of ultrafast ultrasound plane wave imaging has prompted the implementation of similar approaches to enhance the echocardiography temporal resolution. The ability to enhance the echocardiography frame rate beyond conventional values (~60 to 80 fps) would positively impact other echocardiography features, e.g. broaden the color Doppler unambiguous velocity range. We investigated the ultrafast echocardiography imaging approach using ultrasound diverging waves. The high frame rate offered by the diverging wave method was used to enhance the capabilities of both B-mode and color Doppler echocardiography. The B-mode temporal resolution was increased to 633 fps whilst the image quality was kept almost unchanged with reference to the conventional echocardiography technique. The color Doppler Nyquist velocity range was extended to up to 6 times the conventional limit using a weather radar imaging approach; such an approach could not have been implemented without using the ultrafast diverging wave imaging technique. The advantageous performance of the ultrafast diverging wave echocardiography approach is supported by multiple in vitro and in vivo results included in this manuscript.
