Resumen
Background Cardiothoracic surgery patients have an increased risk for aspiration and may require enteral access for nutrition. Local Problem In a cardiothoracic intensive care unit, feeding start times were delayed because of scheduling conflicts with support services. An electromagnetic device (Cortrak 2 Enteral Access System, Avanos Medical) was introduced to allow advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants) to independently establish postpyloric access and reduce dependence on ancillary services. Methods A quality improvement study was performed. Pre- and postimplementation data included order time, service arrival, tube placement time, tube positioning, and feeding start times for 207 placements. Pre- and postimplementation surveys were conducted to evaluate advanced practice provider satisfaction with enteral tube placement practices. Results Feeding start time for initial placement decreased by 35.5% (15.6 hours to 10 hours); for subsequent placement, by 55.2% (15.5 hours to 7.0 hours). Assistance by support services decreased by 80.4% (before implementation, 100 of 100 placements [100%]; after implementation, 21 of 107 placements [19.6%]; P < .001; ϕ = 0.815). Overall, advanced practice provider satisfaction increased. Most participants said that using the electromagnetic device was faster, nutrition was delivered sooner, and implementation was a valuable practice change. Conclusions Using an electromagnetic device decreased feeding start times, reduced the need for support services, and increased advanced practice provider satisfaction with small-bowel feeding tube placement practices.

Resumen
Objectives The Clinical Education Workload Management Initiative (the Initiative) is a unique, multiprofessional, jurisdiction-wide approach and reform process enshrined within an industrial agreement. The Initiative enabled significant investment in allied health clinical education across Queensland public health services to address the workload associated with providing pre-entry clinical placements. This paper describes the outcomes of a quality review activity to measure the impact of the Initiative on placement capacity and workload management for five allied health professions. Data related to several key factors impacting on placement supply and demand in addition to qualitative perspectives from workforce surveys are reported. Methods Data from a range of quality review actions including collated placement activity data, and workforce and student cohort statistics were appraised. Stakeholder perspectives reported in surveys were analysed for emerging themes. Results Placement offers showed an upward trend in the context of increased university program and student numbers and in contrast with a downward trend in full-time equivalent (FTE) staff numbers. Initiative-funded positions were identified as a major factor in individual practitioners taking more students, and staff and managers valued the Initiative-funded positions’ support before and during placements, in the coordination of placements, and in building partnerships with universities. Conclusions The Initiative enabled a co-ordinated response to meeting placement demand and enhanced collaborations between the health and education sectors. Sustaining pre-entry student placement provision remains a challenge for the future. What is known about the topic? The literature clearly identifies factors impacting on increasing demand for clinical placements and a range of strategies to increase clinical placement capacity. However, reported initiatives have mostly been ad hoc or reactive responses, often isolated within services or professions. What does this paper add? This paper describes implementation of a clinical placement capacity building initiative within public sector health services developed from a unique opportunity to provide funding through an industrial agreement. The Initiative aimed to address the workload associated with clinical education of pre-entry students and new graduates. What are the implications for practitioners? This paper demonstrates that systematic commitment to, and funding of, clinical education across a jurisdiction’s public health services is able to increase placement capacity, even when staffing numbers are in decline.

Resumen
Clinical placement is an essential part of nursing education. students undertake 2300 hours of clinical learning throughout the programme ( Nursing and Midwifery Council [NMC], 2018: 1 ). Societal and service changes mean creative transformation is needed to develop sustainable placement opportunities ( Carolan et al, 2020 ; NHS England, 2021a ). A blended placement was developed and piloted in community-based children's services. The blended placement gave child nursing students the possibility of experiencing services during the COVID-19 pandemic, by utilising digital and virtual opportunities. Students were placed in the 0–19 public health integrated nursing service, and the integrated children's additional needs service. Two cohorts comprising 25 students undertook the placement. Students and practice supervisors were surveyed on completion of the placement. Survey findings demonstrated three aspects of a good placement experience – information provision, perceived learning opportunities and student support. Recommendations for future blended placements include improved timetabling and information provision adaptions to meet student expectations.

This article describes a trainee clinical psychology placement at the University of Plymouth. The placement sits outside of mainstream NHS mental health services and involves working with homelessness hostel residents, staff, and GP surgery patients in a socially deprived area. I hope the paper might encourage training courses to consider opportunities for placements outside typical contexts. Doing so might help to broaden the training experience and assist in the development of skills otherwise difficult to obtain in mainstream services.

A strategic use of modified ethnography by Human Service field placement students' functions to raise the students' awareness regarding the existence, as well as characteristics and purposes of values and value systems in Human Services Organizations. The advent and growth of thousands of Human Service agencies in every community in the U.S., in conjunction with the paraprofessional movement in the sixties, has necessitated the parallel development of a corresponding career ladder. Field placements or internships have evolved as an integral part of education for individuals entering the Human Services field. Their philosophical and pragmatic development has been influenced in all phases by individuals from a multitude of disciplines. Social anthropologists have a great deal to offer the Human Services field and, in this instance, input into a rational protocol for a field placement regimen.

Resumen
Special education consists of specially designed services available for students with disabilities, and should be available across placements. Students with the most significant disabilities continue to be taught in restrictive settings, despite accumulating evidence suggesting their special education services can be delivered effectively in general education settings. Every individualized education program (IEP) must contain a statement describing how the student will be provided a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. The present study used content analysis to examine least restrictive environment statements of 88 students’ IEPs to determine what factors, including supplementary aids and services, were considered in making placement decisions. We further analyzed the classes and activities in which students participated in general education settings. Findings reveal supplementary aids and services were not considered in placement decisions, although a number of factors centering on curricular considerations, environmental demands, student deficit, and personnel requirements were noted in making placement decisions. We further found students primarily participated in non-academic instruction while in general education settings. Implications for policy, practice, and research are included.

Resumen
This article explores the use of an alternative placement model in conjunction with the Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for education and training. Traditionally in nurse education, students were supported on placement on a one-to-one basis by a qualified nurse mentor. This could be a very intense relationship and could limit placement learning as students were only allocated to areas that have a qualified nurse mentor, exacerbating competing demands on placement capacity to support students. A higher education institute trialled an alternative placement model that used several healthcare-related services traditionally not used for nursing placements. Some of these placements were allocated by the higher education institute, but students were also responsible for securing a number of placements for themselves. The students were supported with their learning by appropriate healthcare staff in practice but were assessed by academic members of staff at the higher education institute acting as practice assessors. The project was evaluated positively overall by the vast majority of students and staff. Students found it to be an empowering experience, which encouraged autonomous practice.

Resumen
Objective The aim of the present study was to determine the clinical activity profile of preregistration physiotherapy students during clinical placements and their clinical activity contribution to health service delivery. Methods Clinical activity data for 2014 were obtained from five Queensland public sector hospitals providing preregistration physiotherapy students clinical education in three key clinical areas (cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and neurological) over four 5-week placement blocks. Data regarding the number of student occasions of service (OOS) and the length of the OOS (LOOS) were collected to determine the average OOS and LOOS per student in each clinical area. Results Twenty weeks of student data were collected from each hospital in each clinical area, representing 29.1% of cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and neurorehabilitation student placements. Students completed 19051 OOS. The average OOS per student per block for cardiorespiratory, musculoskeletal and neurorehabilitation placements was 98.3, 74.0 and 72.4 respectively. Two-way ANOVA revealed a main effect of weeks (F=402.1, P<0.001) and clinical area (F =1331.5, P<0.001) for LOOS.In addition, an interaction was found between clinical placement week and clinical area for LOOS (F=8.4, P<0.001). Conclusions Student clinical activity data are useful for understanding the student contribution to health services. Student contribution appears to increase throughout the clinical placement and consideration should be given to the clinical educator:student ratio to enhance overall student contribution. What is known about the topic? Quantitative data describing physiotherapy student clinical care activity during placements are limited. What does this paper add? This paper profiles physiotherapy student clinical care activity and the changes occurring over 5-week placements. What are the implications for practitioners? Physiotherapy students provide clinical activity for health services that changes over their 5-week placement. Student clinical activity should be considered when responding to placement demand and planning service delivery.

A survey was undertaken to identify emerging areas for practice placements as the first part of a three-phase project. Quantitative data pertaining to the number of non-traditional and role-emerging placements taking place were obtained. Qualitative data were gathered to identify the impetus for creating these types of placement, the ways that they were assessed and reviewed and their potential for further development. The questionnaire was circulated to 27 practice placement tutors, 24 of whom responded. The data were anonymised. Twenty-one of the practice placement tutors stated that their higher education institutions offered placements outside the National Health Service or local authority services. Mental health settings were the largest provider of both non-traditional placements (29%) and role-emerging placements (37%). The survey generated detailed responses on the strengths and challenges of these placements and the majority of the participants were in favour of further development in this area.

Resumen
In England, a national lockdown came into effect on 23 March 2020 in response to the rapid spread of the Coronavirus. Healthcare services were quickly redesigned or scaled back to meet the significant and rising demands. Many practice placements were discontinued, which resulted in large numbers of Allied Health Professions (AHPs) pre-registration students requiring placements to meet the required practice hours. The challenge for placement providers, who were experiencing increased demand and uncertainty, was to continue providing quality placements. At the local trust, 58 AHP students had a placement between April and July 2020. Some clinical areas offered traditional placements. However due to social distancing rules many placements utilised blended practice; using aspects of both direct face-to-face and remote practice. It is important to understand the student experience in anticipation of future surges of Coronavirus. In total, 36 students responded to a placement survey. Results showed the majority of the students reported positive placement experiences overall. Despite the ever-changing placement landscape and the need for flexibility, it is important to ensure that placements are well planned and that students are well informed about the safety measures in place. It is vital that student’s feel welcomed and valued in order to learn and reach their full potential whilst on placement. The use of a blended placement model provided valuable learning experiences, however consideration needs to be given to ensure that students feel part of the team and have confidence that their learning needs are met.

Resumen
AimsTo improve the structure, quality and experience of medical student placements in Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). To increase the likelihood of pursuing a career in Psychiatry or CAMHS by 50% over their 3 week placement.BackgroundThere is evidence in the literature of the widely variable medical student experiences when it comes to Psychiatry placements. Medical students from Kings’ College London (KCL) have a 3 week placement in Lambeth Community CAMHS services. Despite this being a good opportunity for learning and development, the feedback from students reports that they often feel lost and were unable to fulfil the potential of the placement. The main challenges reported were identifying beneficial educational experiences and gaining clinically relevant exposure. This exposure includes getting involved beyond observation and following a patient longitudinally. These challenges will likely have a knock-on effect on their attitude towards Psychiatry and overall enjoyment of CAMHS placements when there is already a struggle to recruit trainee Psychiatrists.MethodA structured and immersive educational placement was designed through consultation with previous students, the multidisciplinary team and the university program directors. This included: •A new induction•Having a role in initial assessments of young people•Formalised medical and psychology teaching•Communication sessions•Case discussions in a ‘grand round’ format providing opportunity for end of placement assessmentFeedback was gathered using the Qualtrics analytical software, which was easily accessible through student's mobile devices.Pre placement questionnaires were used to assess the student's initial level of knowledge, expectations from the placement and motivation or interest in a career in CAMHS. Post placement questionnaires were used to assess any change in the above baseline scores. Brief, online feedback was collected after every clinical activity and was used to assess the interest and utility of each attended session during the placement. The questionnaire feedback was analysed and using these data, adjustments were made to improve the program for the next students in a “Plan-Do Study-Act” quality improvement methodology format. We analysed whether improving placement experience and learning affected students’ interest in careers in Psychiatry.ResultThe Quality Improvement Project is currently on-going and results are pending. So far, there is an improvement in student attendance and engagement following the introduction of induction, structure and active involvement in case management.ConclusionThe COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in community services having significantly reduced face to face contact, therefore our proposed changes for future cycles include various virtual elements. Ensuring medical students have access to online platforms such as Microsoft teams is vital in ensuring an effective medical student placement can be established Although the change to more remote working has been challenging , it is vital that medical students gain appropriate clinical experience during their Psychiatry placement to support further developments in Psychiatric recruitment.

The author reviewed placement patterns in 447 systematically selected case records of abused and neglected children residing with either parents or relatives and under the supervision of children's protective services (CPS). Children of color had more kinship and shelter placements. Despite high levels of care and protection provided by relatives, supervision of children continued because CPS workers were concerned that noncustodial parents might reabuse the children. Workers expressed apprehensions that if they failed to predict and prevent reabuse, they would be blamed by the agency as well ashy the media and public demanding to know why the system failed.

Resumen
In almost all current debates concerning services for young people in out-of-home care it has been customary to define services in terms of the so-called ‘continuum of care’, a hypothetical typology of placement options that differ in varying degrees from conventional family life. According to this philosophy, children should always be placed into family foster care rather than congregate care because foster placements are more normalised, nurturing, and place fewer limits on children’s individuality and freedom of choice. In this paper, we argue that this approach is limited because it fails to consider the diversity of actual services and structures possible at different points in the hypothetical continuum. In our view, future policies may be better served by a dimensional approach that views placement options as a configuration of factors including: the physical and living environment, service type, and staffing characteristics. In this system, the quality and suitability of placement options is no longer defined by names or labels (eg, family, group or residential), but by the actual nature of the placement provided. Appropriate combinations of these elements, rather than a choice between fixed categories, may assist in the development of innovative options better able to meet the needs of young people not suitable for existing care arrangements.

Resumen
Background: The use of the 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is common in sophisticated pre-hospital emergency medical services but its value depends upon accurate placement of the ECG electrodes. Several studies have shown widespread variation in the placement of chest electrodes by other health professionals but no studies have addressed the accuracy of paramedics. The main objective of this study was to ascertain the accuracy of the chest lead placements by registered paramedics. Methods: Registered paramedics who attended the Emergency Services Show in Birmingham in September 2018 were invited to participate in this observational study. Participants were asked to place the chest electrodes on a male model in accordance with their current practice. Correct positioning was determined against the Society for Cardiological Science and Technology’s 2017 clinical guidelines for recording a standard 12-lead ECG, with a tolerance of 19 mm being deemed acceptable based upon previous studies. Results: Fifty-two eligible participants completed the study. Measurement of electrode placement in the vertical and horizontal planes showed a high level of inaccuracy, with 3/52 (5.8%) participants able to accurately place all chest electrodes. In leads V1‐V3, the majority of incorrect placements were related to vertical displacement, with most participants able to identify the correct horizontal position. In V4, the tendency was to place the electrode too low and to the left of the pre-determined position, while V5 tended to be below the expected positioning but in the correct horizontal alignment. There was a less defined pattern of error in V6, although vertical displacement was more likely than horizontal displacement. Conclusions: Our study identified a high level of variation in the placement of chest ECG electrodes, which could alter the morphology of the ECG. Correct placement of V1 improved placement of other electrodes. Improved initial and refresher training should focus on identification of landmarks and correct placement of V1.

Resumen
The study aimed to analyze and compare several algorithms in the context of networks services placement, and then proposed a self-organized dynamic heuristic algorithm adaptable to continually changing network conditions in order to achieve the ideal placement of services replicas in future networks. It is known that future networks demand a high degree of self-organization to keep pace with ongoing changes while maintaining performance optimized. One of the important challenges in this context is the services placement problem. Service placement issue refers to the selection of the most appropriate network node for hosting a service. The ideal placement of services replicas reduces the cost of serving customers, improves connectivity between clients and servers as well as the use of available resources. The study summarized the results of qualitative comparison between several placement algorithms and refers to the most important requirements to be taken into account when implementing the placement algorithm. Generally, each service has its own placement technique, and the action taken by a specific service may affect other services decisions and force them to adapt. There is an urgent need to a management service for managing services replicas to make the optimal placement decision. This service should work in a distributed manner and does not require comprehensive knowledge about the network. It is also characterized by its ability to adapt to changing network conditions in terms of load and topology. Other services coordinate with the management service about replicating or migrating actions, thus services will be offered at a minimized cost.

Resumen
Despite extensive research on financial sector development, there is a lack of empirical studies specifically examining the combined effects of trade services and interbank placement on financial sector growth in Nigeria. This study examines the effect of trade services and interbank placement on financial sector development in Nigeria using time series data spanned a period of twelve (12) years 2012 to 2023. The study adopted the ex-post-facto research design and secondary data used in the study was sourced from CBN annual statistical bulletin for relevant years. Descriptive statistics, Correlation, Augmented Dickey Fuller Test (ADF), Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL) and post estimation test were the main statistical tools used to analysis the data with the help of E-view 12 statistical package. The finding of this study revealed that trade services and interbank placement exerts a positive and significant effect on financial sector development. The study recommended that Nigeria should invest in modernizing trade services infrastructure, adopting advanced technologies like blockchain, and developing digital platforms for faster trade-related documentation and payments. Also, regulators should create a robust framework for interbank placements, ensuring stability and transparency as smaller banks' participation can improve liquidity and trust, leading to a more resilient financial sector.

Two-way ANOVA revealed a main effect of weeks (F=402.1, PF =1331.5, PF=8.4, PConclusions Student clinical activity data are useful for understanding the student contribution to health services.

Resumen
Australia's rural health services commonly face serious and protracted workforce shortages. To help address such shortages in rural and remote areas, a range of programs exist to support university students to undertake placements in a rural setting. In particular, University Departments of Rural Health (UDRHs) are funded to support nursing and allied health students to undertake a rural placement. As UDRHs encourage students to 'go rural' and as they coordinate and facilitate placements in rural settings, a range of enablers and barriers emerge. This study investigates the lived experiences of nursing and allied health students on placement in public health services in rural and regional Victoria. Its purpose was to identify the enablers and barriers most strongly affecting placement satisfaction and personal wellbeing. The intended outcome was to identify modifiable factors that could potentially improve the rural placement experience. Eighteen students were interviewed by a student undertaking her placement. Interviews were 45-60 minutes in length and all face-to-face. The 18 participants were from five universities and were undertaking their placement at one of seven public hospitals operating in northeast Victoria. The researcher recruited participants by attending scheduled debrief meetings at their placement organisation, briefly discussing the research and inviting students to participate. Data were analysed using a thematic analysis approach. The study found that most participants were positive and enthusiastic about their rural placement, both professionally and personally. Three key enablers were identified: 1) enjoyment of the rural environment and community; 2) working in a positive, friendly and supportive workplace; and 3) exposure to broad practice and enhanced learning opportunities. Simultaneously many had also experienced significant barriers before, during or as a consequence of undertaking their placement, and these negatively affected placement satisfaction and personal wellbeing. Identified barriers were: 1) increased financial stress; 2) travel and accommodation challenges and concerns; 3) study-work-life balance and isolation issues; 4) encountering stressful work situations and/or personal events while on placement; and 5) communication issues with universities. The findings are strongly consistent with those identified in the extant literature. The findings add to previous research by deepening understanding about the financial burden and barriers experienced by nursing and allied health students as a result of undertaking rural placements. Disruption to students' lives socially, psychologically, financially and in terms of employment were significant. The study identified some important aspects of the placement experience, suggesting that nursing and allied health students can be dissatisfied with increased financial stress, isolation and inflexibility from universities.

Resumen
Abstract Trends in the supplementary aids and services (SAS) written in individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with significant disabilities (a) in different educational placements, (b) with and without behavior support plans (BSP), and (c) with and without complex communication needs (CCN) are examined using multivariate analysis of variance. Results show no significant differences in SAS for students across separate, resource, and inclusive placements. Students with BSPs had significantly more collaborative and behavior SAS than those without BSPs. Students with CCN had significantly more social-communication SAS than those whose IEPs indicated little to no communication support needs; however, 51.1% of students with CCN had no social-communication SAS. Findings raise concern around the extent to which SAS are considered before placement decisions, the high frequency of paraprofessional support for students with BSPs, and the low frequency of social-communication SAS written for students with CCN. Implications for policy, practice, and future research are provided.

Resumen
This study was conducted to measure the effectiveness of quality management of industrial training management services by CUIC UUM. The study essentially utilizes the SERVQUAL service quality study model as a theoretical framework and the development of questionnaires. The questionnaires contained demographic information and 49 measurement items. Fieldwork was conducted from June 2014 to January 2015, i.e. the training session of the UUM’s student industry training or the respondents. The unit of analysis used is the individual, who is a UU CUIC customer. A total of 827 questions were analyzed. The results show that there is a strong relationship between the quality of service quality produced by CUIC UUM with the level of customer satisfaction. The five dimensions of service quality, namely reliability, assurance, empathy, sensitivity, and reliability as well as the role of marketing or promotion communication indicate the varying strengths of relationships in influencing customer satisfaction of service dominating organizations such as CUIC UUM.

Resumen
The new paradigm of health care requires hospitals to provide quality services according to the needs and desires of patients while still referring to the professional code of ethics. In the rapid development of technology and increasingly fierce competition, hospitals are required to continue to improve the quality of their services. The phenomenon behind this research by looking at the conditions of handling employee placements in hospitals is very different from handling employee placements in agencies/institutions in general, so the goal to be achieved in this study is to find out whether the pattern of placement and job satisfaction can improve performance. Employees at the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Pinrang Regency. The results of this study are that the placement has no significant effect on the performance of the Pinrang Regency General Hospital (RSUD) and the results of other analyzes, namely job satisfaction, show a strong and significant influence and relationship.

Resumen
Research has begun to identify the breadth and complexity of contextual variables that impact the opportunities, services, and supports students with complex support needs receive across different classroom placements. Indeed, as research has suggested, placement in and of itself may determine the schooling experiences of these students in ways that can enhance or constrain the outcomes of the educational process. This study examined an array of contextual variables in relation to four types of placement in which students with complex support needs might be placed for educational services by their Individualized Education Program teams. Placements were defined in terms of percent of the school day students had access to age-level general education classes, ranging between no access (separate school) to 80% or higher (“inclusive”). The investigation used surveys completed by a national sample of special and general educators and administrators. Completed surveys were obtained for 117 students with complex support needs across all four types of placement. The findings revealed potential relationships between a number of contextual variables and placement, suggesting that: (a) student opportunities and experiences vary systematically in relation to the amount of access they have to general education classrooms and (b) the application of the Least Restrictive Environment process, with its tacit endorsement of segregated settings and specialized programs, may in fact negatively impact the education of many of these students. Implications of these findings and future research needs are discussed.

Resumen
The purpose of this study was to develop and test an instrument that measures the quality of job placements of State-Federal Vocational Rehabilitation program consumers. A four part operational definition of quality placement was developed that included: (1) income and satisfaction with salary; (2) benefits provided, and consumer satisfaction with benefits; (3) potential for training opportunities and career development; and (4) satisfaction with job and personal life after placement. The “Rehabilitation Success Survey” was developed by a panel of rehabilitation professionals and consumers to measure these 4 components of placement quality. The instrument was piloted in one state, revised, and then administered in a second state. Results indicated that broadening the definition of successful placement beyond status code 26 closure, provides a more comprehensive picture of the impact of employment and rehabilitation services on consumers' lives.

Resumen
The purpose of this project was to develop and pilot a web-based job placement information network aiming at enhancing the work trial and job placement opportunities of people with disabilities (PWD). Efficient uses of information technology in vocational rehabilitation were suggested to help improve PWD employment opportunities and thus enable them to contribute as responsible citizens to the society. In this preliminary study, a web-based employer network was so developed to explore Hong Kong employers' needs and intentions in employing PWD. The results indicated that Hong Kong employers generally agreed to arrange work trials for PWD whose work abilities match job requirements. They also expressed that they would offer permanent job placements to those PWD who showed satisfactory performance in work trials. The present study evidenced that using an information network could expedite communications between employers and job placement services, and thus job placement service outcomes. It is hoped that a job placement databank could thus be developed through accumulating responses from potential employers.

The idea of prevention in child welfare is not new. The prevention of substitute placement of children whether on a temporary or long-term basis has been a fundamental principle of child welfare we have held to for many years in Victoria. However, it is only in the last decade that this principle is actually being carried out in practice by a number of voluntary agencies. For many children placement is still commonly used as a solution it is easier to place a child than to promote change within many multi-deficit families.

Resumen
Purpose – This study profiled the work activities, including caseloads, of psychologists in clinical training (n=51; hereafter referred to as “trainees”) in the Republic of Ireland (RoI). The purpose of this paper is to highlight the value of trainees by focusing on the effect they had on the waiting times across the services where they were on placement. Design/methodology/approach – This study employed a survey design using the online survey software, Limesurvey, in order to profile the work activities of 51 trainees (response rate=47 per cent) on various placements across the RoI. Findings – Findings suggest that the trainees work contributed in a meaningful way to their host services through their engagement in both direct and indirect clinical work. Research limitations/implications – The study relied on self-report data, some of which were estimates (e.g. waitlist lengths at placement end). Future research could employ other methods (e.g. work activity diaries) to increase reliability. Originality/value – By highlighting the valuable contribution made by trainees while on placement, this study supports the continued funding of clinical training programmes in the RoI.

Resumen
This study examines the effects of child welfare, mental health, and drug/alcohol system experiences on jail involvement, as mediated by juvenile justice placement, for Black and White youth/young adults. The sample was comprised of individuals born between 1985 and 1994 with child welfare involvement in an urban Pennsylvania county ( N = 37,079) and an out-of-home placement (OOHP) subsample ( n = 8,317). Four path models were estimated (two full samples, two subsamples; separate models for Black and White youth). For all models, juvenile justice placement was positively related to jail involvement. For the full samples, out-of-home child welfare placement was associated with an increase in juvenile justice placement. Within the Black placement sample, child welfare placement experiences had complex relationships with juvenile justice placement. Providing drug/alcohol services may be a protective factor for Black youth prior to juvenile justice contact. Articulating these relationships helps identify youth most at risk of justice system involvement and better targets services, especially mental health and drug/alcohol services.

Resumen
The post-release experiences of 68 children with mental retardation were investigated to determine the residential and educational consequences of deinstitutionalization. Research questions focused on the type and stability of community placements, the degree of restrictiveness of such placements, and the types of services received during community placement. The findings were interpreted in light of historical factors occurring during the period of community placement (1970 to 1985), with emphasis on the relationship between the experiences of discharged children and the enactment of federal and state special education laws in 1978 and the issuance of a federal district court order in 1981. A relationship was noted between policy development and improved experiences of deinstitutionalized children, particularly those with severe and profound levels of retardation.

Resumen
Agencies offering vocational rehabilitation services for blind and visually impaired clients are involved in job placement using different models in terms of personnel and placement activities. In an effort to obtain information about personnel, types of activities, and other resources, agencies across the nation were surveyed. Using survey findings and available Rehabilitation Services Administration placement data, we noted that agencies employing both rehabilitation counselors and placement specialists were experiencing a higher rate of success than those agencies not employing placement specialists. We propose a model placement program employing both rehabilitation counselors and placement specialists, as well as rehabilitation technologists. Suggestions for model programs are made with an understanding of the pressures faced by the counselors and administrators: large caseloads, clients with multiple handicaps, and financial constraints.

Resumen
Objectives: We examined the extent to which home and community-based services (HCBS) spending affected the likelihood of nursing home (NH) placement among black and white HCBS users with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). Methods: The study population included new HCBS users with ADRD between 2010 and 2013 ( N = 1,046,200). Results: We found that a one hundred dollar increase in monthly HCBS spending was associated with a 0.3 percentage points decrease in the NH placement rate among Whites, but a 0.3 percentage points increase in the NH placement rate among Blacks. The overall NH placement rate was 68.2% and 56.7% for Whites and Blacks, respectively. Discussion: A higher HCBS spending was associated with a decreased likelihood of NH placements for Whites but not for Blacks. It is important to understand how states’ HCBS expansion efforts influence Blacks and Whites with ADRD so that resources can be tailored to communities with different race-mix.

Resumen
This article reviews and discusses current placement trends in public rehabilitation. In order to identify current trends a survey of state vocational rehabilitation agency administrators was conducted. Responses were received from 52 agencies representing 40 states. The results of the survey, along with current literature, resulted in identification of four key trends in placement services: increased emphasis on placement; reconfiguring placement delivery services; expanded employer development; and increased use of the Internet and other technology. The implications of these trends to rehabilitation counseling are also discussed.
