Resumen
The piano plays an important role, being the most popular musical instrument with the largest number of learners not only in Vietnam but also in the world. With a rich and varied expression, the piano can perform independently without any other instrument support and still achieve high artistic efficiency. Not only that, but due to its multi-vocal nature, the piano can be used as an orchestral instrument or as an accompaniment for vocals and other musical instruments. Therefore, the piano is a common and essential instrument for both professional and amateur musicians. Mastering the skill of playing the piano well will be the basis for the formation and development of creative thinking, in addition, it will help expand knowledge and create favorable conditions for all those who are studying music. general, or other musical instruments in particular. At the Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism, students of Music pedagogy are now equipped with basic knowledge and skills to play the piano to ensure good accompaniment for their future work.

AbstractOnline Piano Learning at Concertino Music School Medan: A Qualitative Study of Non-Formal Education During the Pandemic. Since the initial rise of the Covid 19 pandemic in Indonesia, the productivity of music learning activities, especially pianos, in non-formal institutions has drastically decreased. This research aims to examine the piano teacher teaching strategies in carrying out their profession in the institution so that students can survive learning. This study utilizes qualitative methods. The sample population of this research encompasses educational practitioners and their participants, especially teachers and students at Concertino Music School. This study collects data through limited participatory observation with the participant's approach as an observer. However, in this observation, a selected teacher and her student will represent the population. The research procedure includes establishing data, observing data as an observer, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that online piano learning relies on information and communication technology availability and readiness in teachers and students. In addition to unstable networks, the weakness of online education in the piano learning process is hindered by technical instructions on piano playing accuracy, especially by screen limitations. In conclusion, to overcome curriculum targets that Canada is fulfilled entirely by the student due to the limitations of technology facilities, teachers increase direction with motivation to improve students' self-independence in learning. This online piano learning process will contribute to the development of online music teaching methods in non-formal institutions and improve distance music education studies. Keywords: non-formal education; qualitative studies; online learning; piano

Resumen
Artificial intelligence (AI) development gives a new development direction to the traditional education model. The education reform in the intelligent environment is urgent. Under this background, the theory, methods, and characteristics of intelligent music education are expounded based on traditional piano music education. AI and Internet-based smart piano education is introduced. The characteristics of smart piano and its methods of assisting music teaching are analyzed. Moreover, literature review and questionnaire are adopted based on intelligent music education and smart piano theory. With two universities A and B in Nanjing as the research object, the questionnaire is designed to investigate and analyze the related problems of smart piano-assisted piano basic teaching in detail. The results show that smart piano positively improves skill training and psychological training in piano teaching. Piano major learners believe that smart piano can obviously help beginners and people with low piano levels. However, smart piano is not as good as traditional piano for high-level learners. In actual teaching, teachers should use different strategies for different levels of learners. Regarding curriculum quality, teachers have not fully played the role of the smart piano, and the curriculum of smart piano-assisted basic piano teaching still needs improvement. Finally, corresponding countermeasures and suggestions for the development direction of smart piano in piano music education are put forward according to the current situation of the smart piano. The results can reflect the current situation of smart piano-assisted basic piano teaching, provide a reference for researchers in related industries, and promote the related development of smart piano.

Resumen
Transporting pianos is not an easy task, as they are as valuable and delicate as heavy and bulky. The most extended methods seem to have room for improvements, from maneuverability aspects to worker’s ergonomics. This project aimed to develop an innovative concept that satisfies the needs of both piano owners and moving companies through an organized concept development process. The methodology and tools were selected consciously to fit the problem and reviewed afterwards for learning purposes. Ideation and selection methods were systematically applied to come up with the proposed concept, which was improved further in SolidEdge ST4. Finally, some recommendations for future development of the product were suggested.

One important component of music reading research is measurement, quantification, and evaluation of accuracy in sight-reading performance. Researchers have used various methods of assessment such as the sight-reading tests and scales, quantification of errors, and evaluation by expert examiners. These three methods of assessment have been used independently in research; however, they have never been tested to determine if they provide comparable analyses. This study, therefore, adapted the Watking-Farnum Performance Scale for wind instrumentalists to be used in the context of piano performance and then compared it to the two other assessment methods, more specifically Gilman's Scoring Algorithm and Expert Examiners. Each method of assessment was used to analyze the sight-reading performances of eight piano students on five newly composed exercises. The assessment procedures and subject assessments were then compared. It was found that these methods differed greatly in their assessment procedures as well as in their assessment of subjects.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis is concerned with computational methods for alignment and score-informed transcription of piano music. Firstly, several methods are proposed to improve the alignment robustness and accuracywhen various versions of one piece of music showcomplex differences with respect to acoustic conditions or musical interpretation. Secondly, score to performance alignment is applied to enable score-informed transcription. Although music alignment methods have considerably improved in accuracy in recent years, the task remains challenging. The research in this thesis aims to improve the robustness for some cases where there are substantial differences between versions and state-of-the-art methods may fail in identifying a correct alignment. This thesis first exploits the availability of multiple versions of the piece to be aligned. By processing these jointly, the alignment process can be stabilised by exploiting additional examples of how a section might be interpreted or which acoustic conditions may arise. Two methods are proposed, progressive alignment and profile HMM, both adapted from the multiple biological sequence alignment task. Experiments demonstrate that these methods can indeed improve the alignment accuracy and robustness over comparable pairwise methods. Secondly, this thesis presents a score to performance alignment method that can improve the robustness in cases where some musical voices, such as the melody, are played asynchronously to others - a stylistic device used in musical expression. The asynchronies between the melody and the accompaniment are handled by treating the voices as separate timelines in a multi-dimensional variant of dynamic time warping (DTW). The method measurably improves the alignment accuracy for pieces with asynchronous voices and preserves the accuracy otherwise. Once an accurate alignment between a score and an audio recording is available, the score information can be exploited as prior knowledge in automatic music transcription (AMT), for scenarios where score is available, such as music tutoring. Score-informed dictionary learning is used to learn the spectral pattern of each pitch that describes the energy distribution of the associated notes in the recording. More precisely, the dictionary learning process in non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is constrained using the aligned score. This way, by adapting the dictionary to a given recording, the proposed method improves the accuracy over the state-of-the-art.

Resumen
Many incoming students have studied piano prior to entering college and receive much of their theory training through music study with a piano teacher. The National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) designed a website page for potential students to answer the question, "How should I best prepare to enter a conservatory, college, university as a music major?" Theoretical concepts they suggest can be grouped into three main categories: Basic Music Theory Rudiments, Ear-Training Skills, and Form and Harmony. This research examines five piano theory method books (Alfred Premier Piano Course, Bastien Piano Basics, Faber Piano Adventures, Harris Celebrate Piano!, and Kjos Fundamentals of Piano Theory) to assess their effectiveness in presenting the theoretical concepts NASM recommends they should know. The five books used for this study provide a basic foundation for many of the concepts undergraduates will be expected to know as they enter college theory courses.

Texto completo
Resumen
This study was undertaken in an effort to determine the effects of piano instruction on attitudes and piano skills of elementary education majors enrolled in a music methods class. A class of nineteen elementary education majors at a private mid-western university served as subjects for the case study. They were given both written and oral pre and posttests, and extensive anecdotal data were recorded. As a result of the study, general conclusions and recommendations were as follows:1. Subjects' initial perceptions of their probable success in the piano laboratory were high. In addition, seventy-nine percent of the subjects accurately predicted their probable success (or failure) in the piano laboratory. It is recommended that instructors take time at the outset of the course to reassure and encouage the students in an effort to increase confidence and thereby the probability of success in the piano laboratory.2. Subjects' attitudes and skill development were negatively affected by perceived inadequacies when comparing themselves to other subjects in the class. As the more advanced students tested out of the piano laboratory, skills and attitudes of the slower subjects improved appreciably. This suggests that ability grouping in methods classes may improve students' perceptions and also performances in these lasses.3. Subjects' confidence in their ability to teach music increased, as indicated by pretest and posttest rankings. Since the sample size was adequately large, the Wilcoxin T value of 7.5 was standardized to a Z value = 2.66 (p <.01). Interpretation of a Z-value = 2.66 strongly suggests the posttest score has significantly increased over the pretest score.4. Subjects' perceptions of their ability to read and write music, their ability to sing songs with their students, and their piano playing ability significantly increased as shown by a series of paired comparisons t-test analyses on the pretest/ posttest data.It is recommended that additional case studies be conducted in the methods class in an effort to isolate and identify additional aspects of the class which influence the students' growth and/ or lack of growth in self confidence and musical skills.

Chan, Alton. "The Kinetic Structures of Metric Temporal Patterns in Selected Beginning Piano Method Series". Thesis, University of North Texas, 1994. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc279319/.

Texto completo
Resumen
The purpose of this study was to investigate the kinetic structures or reinforcement schedules of metric temporal patterns (metric combination of note values within a measure) in five best-selling beginning piano method series. Based upon a survey mailed to 98 music dealers, the five best-selling beginning piano method series in 1992 and 1993 were identified as: the Alfred Basic Piano Library, Bastien Piano Basics, David Carr Glover Piano Library, John. W. Schaum Piano Course, and John Thompson Modern Course for Piano. A coding system was developed for identifying the numerical appearances and occurrences of various metric temporal patterns per learning piece within each method series. Several computer programs were written to compute the kinetic structures, scope, and pacing of metric temporal patterns for each method series. The derived data were then compared to delineate relationships between the three analytical variables.

Engelbrecht, Petro Marietha. "Memorisation : an approach for the pianist". Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2001. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/52333.

Resumen
Thesis (MMus) -- Stellenbosch University, 2001.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Two of the most frequently reported performance problems amongst musicians are memorisation and performance anxiety. For the purposes of this study, memorisation is investigated regarding its importance in a musician's life; different faculties of memorisation are discussed; and practice methods are proposed providing the memoriser with maximum memory security and confidence. Performance anxiety, as a corollary of memory insecurity, is investigated regarding its symptoms, causes, and possible cures. It was found that memory insecurity and extreme performance anxiety result because of insufficient or inadequate practice and/or a lack of trust in the musician's own abilities. Musicians should prepare the best they can and then, during performance, they should put trust in the preparation that has been done. A healthy self-esteem, as well as good health, are requisites for success as a performer. It was also found that performers should concentrate less on the feat of technique and memory, and more on making music.

AbstractThe piano key weir is a new type of labyrinth weir structure form, its advantages such as stable structure, upstream and downstream inverted overhang and small base area greatly improve the scope of application, and it has high discharge capacity and overflow efficiency, which is considered as a very effective method to solve the shortage of reservoir and dam discharge flow, and has more applications abroad. In this paper, the experimental observation of the hydraulic characteristics of the discharge from the hydraulic physics model of the piano key weir confirms its good overflow capacity, but also limits the study of its complex flow. Combined with the numerical simulation software, the three-dimensional flow field of the piano key weir is numerically simulated based on the RNG k-ɛ turbulence model and the free-surface VOF technique to analyze the changes of hydraulic characteristics such as flow patterns, flow lines and flow velocities, and to clarify the hydraulic characteristics of the spillway and the mechanism of the improved spillway capacity by combining the experimental results of the physical model. In addition, a comparative analysis of the overflow capacity and flood discharge efficiency between the piano key weir and the traditional thin-walled weir is carried out to better reflect the advantages of the piano key weir in flood discharge by using the over-discharge ratio, and to discuss the application of the piano key weir in actual diseased reservoir and dam projects.

Resumen
AbstractCOVID-19 disrupted existing processes and accelerated the rethinking of healthcare spaces, functions, and model of care, stressing the ineffectiveness of the territorial health network in the Italian National Health System (NHS). Within the framework of European Recovery Plan (Next Generation EU), Italy’s Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza (PNRR) allocated €15.63 Bn in the Mission 6 “Health” to strengthen proximity networks, facilities, and telemedicine for territorial healthcare. Aware of the importance that the physical built environment plays in the process of care delivery and health promotion and prevention, €3 Bn has been allocated to the planning, design, and construction of two new low-care typologies in a vision of person-centered healthcare: the Community Home (Casa della Comunità-CdC), and the Community Hospital (Ospedale di Comunità-OdC). It has been estimated that 795 new CdCs and 381 new OdCs will completed before 2026 as novel buildings or renovation of existing healthcare facilities. Although in European context several best practices are present in terms of integration of healthcare architectures into the urban context (Spanish Health Centers or Swedish Primary Care Centers), the Italian experience is generally outdated, with some regional exceptions; there is the need to understand the architectural characteristics of such new typologies. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to shed light on the spatial, functional, technological, and organizational needs and requirements of CdC and OdCs and to map the different regional requirements in a systematic and structured framework. The methods adopted in the study include a review of national and regional guidelines, data collection from National agency for regional health services (AGENAS) databases, and comparison matrix development of the different requirements in Italian regions. The results will highlight technological and architectural implications of territorial health centers implementation.

Texto completo
Resumen
Fluid-elastic instability (FEI) is the cause of mechanical failures and expensive damage in tube bundle heat exchangers. The purpose of this experimental study is to develop a methodology to analyze the vibrations due to fluid-elastic instability in a tube array. The motions of a square array of 15 stainless steel vibrating tubes (␀ 25.4mm) in water cross-flow, suspended using stainless steel piano wire have been recorded with a CCD camera. The captured images are analyzed using two different methods. The individual motion and relative motion of the tubes are reported and can be used for computational model validation. The relative displacement of the tubes allows identification of the most potentially damaging patterns of tube bundle vibration. A critical reduced velocity may be determined by specification of an allowable limit on tube motion amplitude. Eventually, critical velocities for various tube array configurations and flow conditions can be measured and compared with existing criteria for heat exchanger design and operation.

Resumen
The development of information technology and devices has made it easier for everyone to take and share videos and photos, and many number of information has become available in the world. For example, when learning how to play a musical instrument, a game, or a household appliance, they can effectively understand it from videos and images on YouTube or Instagram, instead of reading an instruction manual or a reference book. Whereas the piano is difficult to practice efficiently because repetition and reading music are said to be the two most important elements needed to acquire the skill. Therefore, continuous practice is essential, but many people give up halfway. Focusing on reading music, we have to process multiple pieces of information on the score simultaneously in a short period of time while playing the piano. However, for beginners, it’s difficult to keep reading the necessary information from a score where information is concentrated in many symbols at the tempo of the performance. This research examines how to make it easier for beginners to recognize and remember information about music notation and how to use the information obtained more naturally. To this end, we clarified the process by which beginners learn and recognize information about musical notation in piano learning activities and clarified the characteristics that are expressed when they perform using the recognized knowledge.Firstly, we investigated whether learners would get support in an application whose purpose was to support reading practice. We found that the support could be categorized into three types, and that learning about pitch, rhythm, and keyboard position was important for beginners. To clarify the differences in these learning procedures depending on the level of proficiency, we conducted behavioral observations of beginners and experienced pianists practicing reading music, summarized their behavioral procedures into ordinal data, and conducted a Dematel analysis. As a result, we’re able to classify the level of proficiency into three levels: beginners (subjects with no piano experience), experienced (subjects with less than one year of piano study), and proficient (subjects with more than seven years of piano study). Based on the results of the questionnaire and interviews, we’re able to discover common issues such as beginners (1) not being able to practice smoothly because they couldn’t establish a procedure, (2) taking a long time to read the pitch of notes from the score, and (3) finding it difficult to read the rhythm from the score. From the above research, we examined new information display methods and innovations for the three types of information in music notation: pitch, rhythm, and sequence. In the case of pitch, it’s thought that information can be recognized efficiently by using the properties of color. For rhythm, we extracted information from the score and organized it in a new way, which reduced the error rate and led to more efficient practice. Also, with the information organized, even beginners were able to efficiently find the regularities and similarities in the score, which led to smooth read music.

Resumen
Abstract The authors assume that the stress state can be expressed by a value, SMB, and are trying to develop a method to change the value in an appropriate direction by music. This paper compares the results of the music therapy experiment conducted in 2022 with those in 2020. Subjects are recruited and classified into four groups according to whether they know the pieces played and whether they like the music. Some subjects wear the pulse oximeter throughout the concert. Other methods are employed to measure the stress states of all subjects at the beginning, the intermission, and the end of the concert. Based on the experiment, the possibility of prescribing classical music to patients is recognized. The same music has different effects on the subjects, depending on the type of music and the subject’s characteristics such as gender and whether he/she likes the music. The effects also differ depending on the piano player. In other words, prescribing music would not be simply selecting songs according to the symptoms. In the future, the music database will be grown up and the experimental methods using public concerts will be improved. Some of the stress measurement methods employed in this experiment may be combined to determine SMD.

Resumen
The laser-heated pedestal growth (LHPG) technique for rapid growth of laser crystals can provide small crystal rods at a lower cost than can bulk-growth methods. We have been able to grow a variety of rare-earth-doped garnets and fluorides. Controlled doping was achieved by mixing powdered dopant and host materials in our feedstock preparation. In this paper we report laser performance in Tm:YAG with a sample grown at our facility. The 3% doped sample was 1 mm in diameter and 3 mm long. The minirod had flat and parallel surfaces with an antireflection coating at 2 μm. An argon-pumped Ti:sapphire laser operating at 785 nm was used to end-pump the laser crystal, which was placed in a piano-concave resonator. With 6% output coupling, room temperature operation of this cw laser was observed at a threshold of 75 mw of absorbed pump power at a slope efficiency of 51%. This performance compared favorably with the performance of lasers using bulk-grown Tm:YAG crystals. We have shown that laser-quality crystals can be obtained with this growth method, which will allow us to rapidly study new laser host/dopant/codopant combinations.
