Resumen
Many psychoanalytic writers have viewed acting out and somatization as alternate routes for the discharge of uncontained aggressive impulses in borderline patients. In order to investigate this empirically, we tracked the occurrence of two related behaviors—acting up and physical illness—over the course of one patient's long-term hospitalization. Daily scores on these variables were analyzed using a time series procedure. Results indicated that as treatment progressed, acting up and physical illness became more synchronized, and this occurred just prior to symptom remission. Material from psychotherapy suggested that these behavioral changes were associated with the patient's increased ability to verbalize aggressive impulses in the context of fantasy and memory.

Resumen
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test a conceptual model that specified relationships among perceived organizational support (POS), emotional labor, job satisfaction, and affective commitment. Methods: The participants included 297 physical educators who completed an online survey. The data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. Results: After verifying the factor structure, the results of structural equation modeling supported the conceptual model, χ2(157) = 225.09, p < .001; χ2/df = 1.43; root mean square error of approximation = .055 (90% confidence interval [0.045, 0.064], p < .001); standardized root mean square residual = .042; nonnormed fit index = .984; comparative fit index = .987. POS related negatively to surface acting and positively to deep acting and genuine expression. Affective commitment related positively to POS, deep acting, and genuine expression, and negatively to surface acting. Job satisfaction related positively to POS and negatively to surface acting. Discussion/Conclusion: The findings are discussed within the framework of affective events theory, and recommendations are made for helping in-service and preservice physical educators to develop emotional labor strategies.

Resumen
Little evidence links emotional labor to either psychological or physical health. This study determined whether the two types of emotional labor (i.e., surface vs. deep acting) were significantly associated with depressive symptoms and work-related musculoskeletal disorders in call center workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 274 workers recruited from a call center in Seoul, South Korea. In adjusted regression models, levels of surface, but not deep, acting were significantly and positively associated with depressive symptoms. Higher surface acting levels were significantly and positively associated with low back pain; higher deep acting levels were significantly and inversely associated with low back pain. Study findings could inform occupational health nurses as they delineate differentiated strategies, according to the nature of surface and deep acting, to promote psychological and physical health in call center workers.

Resumen
The paper presents a physical model of a single-acting hydroimpact device. Its design can be used to create a hydraulic punch for drilling wells in soft soils. A stand with a clamping device has been developed to simulate the friction force acting on the punch housing when it moves in the soil. Methods of recording dynamic characteristics of working cycles of the hydraulic device are worked out. Tests were carried out with changes in the force acting on the housing from the clamping device. Oscillograms of the characteristics of working cycles (displacements of the housing and striker, pressures in the working chambers and the accumulator) are given.

Resumen
The most important clarification we bring in our reply to commentators concerns the problem of the “explanatory gap”: that is, the gulf that separates physical processes in the brain from the experienced quality of sensations. By adding two concepts (bodiliness and grabbiness) that were not stressed in the target article, we strengthen our claim and clarify why we think we have solved the explanatory gap problem, – not by dismissing qualia, but, on the contrary, by explaining why sensations have a “feel” and why “feels” feel the way they do. We additionally clarify our views on: internal representations (we claim internal representations cannot explain why sensation has a feel), on behaviorism (we are not behaviorists), on perception and action (we believe there can be perception without action), and on the brain (we believe the brain does do something important in perception).

This review summarizes the occurrence, properties and role in mucin O-glycosylation pathways of the various members of glycoprotein sulphotransferase families. Although a number of sulphotransferases have been cloned that act on mucin-type substrates in vitro, it is still difficult to determine exactly which enzymes are responsible for mucin sulphation in vivo. Sulphotransferases play a critical role in determining the chemical, physical and biological properties of mucins. Several of these enzymes have been shown to differ in expression and activity in cancer and inflammation.

To the Editor.— Recent discussions in Pediatrics (1985;75:785-786 and 1986;77:783-784) have pointed out the problems associated with intravascular injection of long-acting penicillins. There is an obvious need for continued education of health care providers concerning the physical properties of these agents and their delivery systems. Wyeth, the manufacturer of the Tubex cartridge system, has recently redesigned their product so that the flow of any aspirated blood is directed to one side of the glass barrel, immediately past the hub, where it can be more easily seen.

Psychiatric hospital records were used to ascertain whether acting-out behavior increases during the full moon phase. Acting-out behavior is identified as that which was dangerous to self or others to the extent that either seclusion or restraint was deemed necessary by qualified mental health professionals to prevent physical harm. Records in the seclusion/restraint log book of an Alabama hospital for 1982, 1983, and 1984 were used for the study. To ensure confidentiality no identification of subjects was made. This study, like many previous similar studies shows no significant increases during the full moon phase.

Resumen
Human papillomavirus 16 (HPV16) exhibits a strong oncogenic potential mainly in cervical, anogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. The E6 and E7 viral oncoproteins, acting via specific interactions with host cellular targets, are required for cell transformation and maintenance of the transformed phenotype as well. We previously demonstrated that HPV16E7 interacts with the actin-binding protein gelsolin, involved in cytoskeletal F-actin dynamics. Herein, we provide evidence that the E7/gelsolin interaction promotes the cytoskeleton rearrangement leading to epithelial-mesenchymal transition-linked morphological and transcriptional changes. E7-mediated cytoskeletal actin remodeling induces the HIPPO pathway by promoting the cytoplasmic retention of inactive P-YAP. These results suggest that YAP could play a role in the “de-differentiation” process underlying the acquisition of a more aggressive phenotype in HPV16-transformed cells. A deeper comprehension of the multifaceted mechanisms elicited by the HPV infection is vital for providing novel strategies to block the biological and clinical features of virus-related cancers.

Resumen
Acting is everywhere: TV, movies, and theater. Yet psychologists know surprisingly little about how acting is processed and understood by viewers. This is despite popular, scholarly, and journalistic obsession both with how actors are able to create characters with fully realized personalities, emotional arcs, physical attributes, and skills, and with whether actors and their characters merge during or after performance. Theoretically, there are several possibilities for how audience members process actors and acting: as literary fiction; as if someone is telling a lie; like essentialist traits and states; or like the personalities and emotions of real people in our every day lives. The authors consider each of these possibilities in turn. They then present 3 studies investigating the amount audiences conflate actors’ and characters’ characteristics ( N = 231) by asking participants directly how much they perceive actors as experiencing the characteristics they portray (Study 1), by showing short video clips of actors and asking participants how much they thought actors were experiencing what they portrayed (Study 2) and by asking participants to judge the overlap in personality characteristics between actors and characters (Study 3). Overall, audience members are conflating actors and their characters. However, how much depends on the characteristic being portrayed and the knowledge of the audience. We propose a theoretical model of when and how audience members think of actors and their characters as blended, and we lay out a research agenda to determine how acting and actors are understood.

Resumen
The physical quality of students is an important goal of quality education, and the basis for the training of high-quality talents. Physical education (PE) is of great significance to enhance students’ physical fitness, and improve their awareness of lifelong physical exercise. Targeting several colleges in Guizhou Province, this paper empirically studies the effectiveness and long-acting mechanism of regional PE teaching through interview, questionnaire survey, and mathematical statistics. Firstly, the status quo of PE teaching in the colleges was surveyed. The survey results show the following problems in college PE teaching: the lack of systematic organization and management, the outdated and non-diverse forms of activities, the absence of a strong sports atmosphere, and the lack of interest among the students. To solve these problems, this paper constructs a long-acting mechanism for regional PE teaching, and verifies its implementation effect through an empirical study. The mechanism was found to enhance the students’ physical fitness, help them develop a good habit of physical exercise, and boost their awareness of lifelong physical exercise. This research greatly promotes the lifelong physical exercise of college students and the PE teaching quality in colleges and universities.

Diabetes is the most common disease in India that mostly affects adult people and reduces physical strength. Diabetes decreases insulin production in the human body that creates various physical disturbances such as damage to the heart, stroke, and others. In the past decades, medical treatments have followed long-acting insulin that reduces life expectancy rate and increases mortality rate in India. Along with that, in the present time, India's medical treatment has adopted the pharmaceutical composition of insulin to prevent diabetes and manage blood sugar in the human body. In this regard, this research study has selected some previous research papers to understand the importance of fast-acting insulin analogue to prevent diabetes. According to the secondary information, most of the medical treatment process in India has adopted fast-acting insulin analogue to prevent diabetes. Moreover, though fast-acting insulin analogue India reduces mortality rate and increases the life expectancy of adult people in India. Resumen
Under external environment stimuli seedlings undergo variation of morphology and alterations in its genetic sequences. Phytochrome signaling i.e., feedback reaction of plants to photons and other nutrient cycle plays a crucial role in its maturation. In this research work we create a cyber physical system to control such morphogenesis of plants through the help of artificial intelligence framework which identifies and control the crucial feedback between plant’s genetic transcription with respect to the external stimuli such as nutrients, electricity, magnetism. This leads to autonomously grow a plant without its disadvantageous traits by destabilizing its negatively acting transcriptional regulators and enhance the plant’s advantageous features by controlling its positively acting transcriptional regulators. This has leaded us to control the plant metabolism, plant growth without soil, manipulate the immunity of plant against disease, develop a plant metabolic profile and maximizes its yield deprived off from its seasonal attribute.

Resumen
Head lice worldwide have developed resistance to insecticides, prompting the introduction of a range of alternative treatments including plant extracts and natural and synthetic oils. Clinical studies of physically acting treatments showed them to be highly effective when first introduced, and a widely held, but unsubstantiated, belief is that lice are unlikely to develop resistance to them. However, this ignores possibilities for natural selection of traits enabling lice to survive exposure. More recent investigations of some physically acting products have shown reduced efficacy, suggesting either changes of behavior, physical structure, or physiology of some louse populations. In addition, the activity of surfactants and similar compounds, acting as solubilizing agents of insect cuticular lipids, can be compromised by the widespread use of toiletry products containing similar substances. Hitherto, most clinical investigations have provided “best case” data resulting from investigator application of treatments. In the few studies involving participant application, the effectiveness was reduced, suggesting that consumer use allows some insects to survive, which could then be selected for tolerance. Unlike neurotoxic insecticides, there is no straightforward method to test for the activity of physically acting chemicals other than by clinical investigations, which need to be rigorous to eliminate poorly effective products as a way of ensuring the continued effectiveness of those treatments that are successful in eliminating infestation.

A growing body of evidence implicates the existence of a functional subconscious governor in the brain, which controls level of habitual physical activity. Such a biologic control, acting in a classic feedback loop mechanism, might serve to contribute to the defense of energy balance. Many questions remain unanswered regarding the pliability of biologic control of activity and the extent that it might dictate daily energy expenditure. A consideration of this concept bears importance for those seeking an understanding of the mechanisms, prevention, and treatment of obesity as well as the link between exercise and health in the general population.

Resumen
As a complementary piece to her preceding article on the formative significance of The Seagull to Stanislavsky's early thinking, Bella Merlin here looks at the play in the context of Stanislavsky's later work, when he was developing the Method of Physical Actions – an approach to a text which placed improvisation and the physical exploration of a scene at the centre of the actor's rehearsal process. This was in some ways a contravention of what was becoming codified in the West (through limited material being available in translation) as the psychological basis of the system. In 1995, Bella Merlin undertook a ten-month course of actor-training at the State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow, where she worked with acting ‘master’, Albert Filozov, who had trained with Mikhail Kedrov, one of the first developers of Stanislavsky's work following his death in 1938. Here, she examines the roots of Filozov's training and the nature of the Method of Physical Actions in theory and in practice. Bella Merlin trained as an actress in Britain and Russia, and has worked extensively in theatre and television. She is currently a lecturer in Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University, where her area of research is acting processes and the psycho-physical nature of performance. This article is based on a paper delivered at the ‘Flight of the Seagull’ conference at the Alexandrinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, in November 1996, to celebrate the one-hundredth anniversary of the premiere of The Seagull.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of a rare phenomenon of physical aggression in a Therapeutic Community (TC) and the clinical results of its management. Design/methodology/approach – The case vignette illustrates the psychodynamic and socio-therapy elements of the treatment model worked within the service prior to, during and after the incident. The information demonstrates how the TC model finds significant value in the living-learning experience that is possible in physical aggression and its management. Findings – The dynamic administration at the interface between TC with preparation groups has a potential pitfall which might increases the risk of aggression in TC. Originality/value – It is an original study focusing on the interface between new notion of preparation groups and TC following a case of Physical aggression. Physical aggression is a rare incident in TCs and there are very limited literature about it. The paper has a distinctive feature of being prepared in collaboration with TC service users.

Resumen
Objective: To report initial clinical experience with the injectable long-acting microspheres formulation of the atypical antipsychotic risperidone. Methods: Case reports. Results: The seven patients described have had good outcomes to date. A patient who has received the drug for 2 years has improved from a state of severe deterioration to full-time employment and participation in a relationship; he has reported mild erectile difficulties but is keen to continue. In all cases extrapyramidal side-effects have been uncommon and brief; weight gain or other physical adverse events have not been observed. Conclusion: Initial use of long-acting injectable risperidone suggests that the first ‘atypical depot’ is a welcome therapeutic development likely to provide significant clinical benefits, particularly for patients who have previously had unsatisfactory experiences with conventional antipsychotics.

Resumen
Engaging in altruistic behaviors is costly, but it contributes to the health and well-being of the performer of such behaviors. The present research offers a take on how this paradox can be understood. Across 2 pilot studies and 3 experiments, we showed a pain-relieving effect of performing altruistic behaviors. Acting altruistically relieved not only acutely induced physical pain among healthy adults but also chronic pain among cancer patients. Using functional MRI, we found that after individuals performed altruistic actions brain activity in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex and bilateral insula in response to a painful shock was significantly reduced. This reduced pain-induced activation in the right insula was mediated by the neural activity in the ventral medial prefrontal cortex (VMPFC), while the activation of the VMPFC was positively correlated with the performer’s experienced meaningfulness from his or her altruistic behavior. Our findings suggest that incurring personal costs to help others may buffer the performers from unpleasant conditions.

Resumen
Nowadays, in a waving working world managers could and can play an important role in the process enable people to find wellbeing at workplace and some people believe they can no more work as correctly and efficiently than before. Often, as a psychologist I hear difficulties encountered by people who are suffering in an occupational world where they sometimes become mentally and physically injured. Many of their problems seem to be induced by their occupational environment, more specifically by management practices. The aim of this paper is on one hand to identify and explain some inappropriate management practices which are often applied by managers, and then on another hand to underline effects of those management practices on wellbeing at work, essentially not only as a function of the difficulties or problems encountered by workers but also in relationship with potential psycho(sociological) effects of some management practices on the workers. Even if the key points and proposals mentioned in that article must be considered to be a suggested framework to be brought to the attention of managers, we firmly believe that the transformation of management practices from an instrument of suffering into an instrument of wellbeing can /could happen, in particular through a case-by-case training of managers / leaders.

Texto completo
Resumen
It is well known that the impulse of the contact force acting during impact of two rigid bodies determines the abrupt change in the motions of the two bodies. Much recent work has been focused on determining a constitutive equation for this impulse which models the complicated phenomena occurring during the actual deformations of the two bodies. The objective of this paper is to discuss a set of physical conditions which impose nontrivial restrictions on general constitutive equations for the impulse. Due to the general nature of these restrictions they can be used to determine the range of validity of various proposals for the impulse. For the general case of three-dimensional impact, the impulse depends on an energetic coefficient of restitution and two angles defining its direction. However, when there are no directional properties of the roughness of the two impacting bodies, it is reasonable to propose a simpler form for the direction of the impulse which depends only on this coefficient of restitution and a single friction angle. An example of impact of two finite spheres is considered which shows that the condition that the two bodies have a tendency to separate after impact imposes nontrivial bounds on this friction angle.

Resumen
In wild-type yeast mitochondrial inheritance occurs early in the cell cycle concomitant with bud emergence. Cells lacking thePTC1 gene initially produce buds without a mitochondrial compartment; however, these buds later receive part of the mitochondrial network from the mother cell. Thus, the loss ofPTC1 causes a delay, but not a complete block, in mitochondrial transport. PTC1 encodes a serine/threonine phosphatase in the high-osmolarity glycerol response (HOG) pathway. The mitochondrial inheritance delay in theptc1 mutant is not attributable to changes in intracellular glycerol concentrations or defects in the organization of the actin cytoskeleton. Moreover, epistasis experiments withptc1Δ and mutations in HOG pathway kinases reveal thatPTC1 is not acting through the HOG pathway to control the timing of mitochondrial inheritance. Instead, PTC1may be acting either directly or through a different signaling pathway to affect the mitochondrial transport machinery in the cell. These studies indicate that the timing of mitochondrial transport in wild-type cells is genetically controlled and provide new evidence that mitochondrial inheritance does not depend on a physical link between the mitochondrial network and the incipient bud site.

Resumen
The body is the crossroad of the biological and cultural (representational) experience of human being. It has a basic rhetoric potential, which is exploited, in various cultures, through ’s concept of “orientation metaphor”, able to transpose certain concepts into space, as well as Fontanier’s “metonymies of the physical”, or Greimas“ ’metonymic actors” identified in the bodily segments and acting each “in the name of an actant” (Greimas). Therefore, the body is an “expressive space” (Merleau-Ponty), the symbolic value of its segments being deeply involved in choreographic significations.

Resumen
With the aid of theorists such as Maurice Merleau- Ponty, Toril Moi and Gail Weiss, this article looks at the process where gender takes hold of the body and becomes the co-creator of children'ssubjectivity.Theaim is to understand children'sassertionsabout the body and in particular their assertions about the physical female body, which boys as well as girls belittle and to which they associate fear and weakness. Furthermore, the article pays attention to and problematizes how girls in particular, due to the experiences from their own gender impregnated living world and experiences, can have a more difficult time in utilizing the full capacity of their physical body. It is especially importantto note that gender often reflects different opinions and meanings of the physical body to a girl and to a boy. Merleau-Ponty's body phenomenology gives us the tool to understand how girls are able to develop an image of themselves as being worse at sport than boys, despite the fact that physiological research shows the opposite. It is obvious that opinions and experiences from our living world are of great importance. It is in the living world that one's own body gets to test its own potential and develops alternative ways of acting and it is here that the child embodies gender structures. Since this acting is often based on the physical activities that demand a certain measure of physical competence, women will embody other physical experiences than men. Already at the age of eight both girls and boys consider the female physical body as week and less competent. When this image of the female body is embodied as something normal, it will then be one of many obstacles in the equality work. It is important for those who have genderequality on their agenda, for gender theorists, researchers of masculinity and feminists, to establish more firmly the living and acting body.

Resumen
Aim To investigate whether the use of long-acting benzodiazepines, in individuals aged 65 and over is mediated by physical or psychological factors. Background Long-acting benzodiazepine consumption among older people has implications for mortality, morbidity and cost-effective prescribing. Two models explain benzodiazepine use in this age group, one linked to physical illness and disability and one to psychological factors. Methods Secondary analysis of baseline data from a study of 1059 community-dwelling non-disabled people aged 65 years and over recruited from three general practices in London. For this analysis, use of long-acting benzodiazepines was defined as any self-reported use of diazepam or nitrazepam in the last four weeks. Associations between demographic factors, health service use, and physical and psychological characteristics and benzodiazepine use were investigated. Findings The prevalence of benzodiazepine use in this sample was 3.3% (35/1059). In univariate analyses, benzodiazepine use was associated with female gender, low income, high consultation rates, physical factors (medication for arthritis or joint pain, polypharmacy, difficulties in instrumental activities of daily living, recent pain) and psychological factors (poor self-perceived health, social isolation, and symptoms of anxiety or agitation). In a multivariate logistic regression analysis only two factors retained statistically significant independent associations with benzodiazepine use: receiving only the state pension (OR=4.0, 95% CI: 1.70, 9.80) and pain in the past four weeks (OR=3.79, 95% CI: 1.36, 10.54).

Resumen
AbstractA theological model of the human is needed to prompt responsible thinking about and acting within the physical world. Some basic components for modeling the human as a virtuous cooperator appear in the teachings of Thomas Aquinas. When appropriated cautiously and informed broadly by contemporary scientific findings, this model provides a promising way of thinking about humans in relation to other species and ecological systems, a framework for acting responsibly, and the motivation for making this behavior habitual.

Resumen
Del-Sign is a physical approach to acting that uses elements of Francois Delsarte mime techniques with the foundations of American Sign Language. This acting and presentational technique uses cross-cultural physical communication as a way to deepen an actors’ performance, support a presenter’s lecture, or can be used as a format from which to create animations that communicate with or without verbal language. It is a historical fact that Deaf actors using the foundations of Sign Language influenced the movie industry (Higgins). In silent movie infancy Deaf performers were brought in as consultants to ensure that the gestures, relational positions, facial expression, camera angles and body language of the actors could have the strongest impact and the clearest meaning (Albert Ballin). At that time the standard acting technique was a codified movement study begun and refined by Francious Deslarte (1870-1890s Paris, 1880-1915 Steele MacKaye New York). By blending these two structures we find that an outline is gained for creating movement, posture and gesture (MPG) that easily communicates meaning. The applications of this performance technique are many and varied. From the obvious acting for stage application to lawyers, teachers, priests or other presenters. Del-Sign can now bridge into adding technology to the mix allowing for this approach to be used when creating characters and movement for VR, AR or MR.

Resumen
Background and objectivesMortality from benzodiazepine/opioid interactions is a growing concern in light of the opioid epidemic. Patients on hemodialysis suffer from a high burden of physical/psychiatric conditions, which are treated with benzodiazepines, and they are three times more likely to be prescribed opioids than the general population. Therefore, we studied mortality risk associated with short- and long-acting benzodiazepines and their interaction with opioids among adults initiating hemodialysis.Design, setting, participants, & measurementsThe cohort of 69,368 adults initiating hemodialysis (January 2013 to December 2014) was assembled by linking US Renal Data System records to Medicare claims. Medicare claims were used to identify dispensed benzodiazepines and opioids. Using adjusted Cox proportional hazards models, we estimated the mortality risk associated with benzodiazepines (time varying) and tested whether the benzodiazepine-related mortality risk differed by opioid codispensing.ResultsWithin 1 year of hemodialysis initiation, 10,854 (16%) patients were dispensed a short-acting benzodiazepine, and 3262 (5%) patients were dispensed a long-acting benzodiazepine. Among those who were dispensed a benzodiazepine during follow-up, codispensing of opioids and short-acting benzodiazepines occurred among 3819 (26%) patients, and codispensing of opioids and long-acting benzodiazepines occurred among 1238 (8%) patients. Patients with an opioid prescription were more likely to be subsequently dispensed a short-acting benzodiazepine (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.66; 95% confidence interval, 1.59 to 1.74) or a long-acting benzodiazepine (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.11; 95% confidence interval, 1.03 to 1.20). Patients dispensed a short-acting benzodiazepine were at a 1.45-fold (95% confidence interval, 1.35 to 1.56) higher mortality risk compared with those without a short-acting benzodiazepine; among those with opioid codispensing, this risk was 1.90-fold (95% confidence interval, 1.65 to 2.18; Pinteraction<0.001). In contrast, long-acting benzodiazepine dispensing was inversely associated with mortality (adjusted hazard ratio, 0.84; 95% confidence interval, 0.72 to 0.99) compared with no dispensing of long-acting benzodiazepine; there was no differential risk by opioid dispensing (Pinteraction=0.72).ConclusionsCodispensing of opioids and short-acting benzodiazepines is common among patients on dialysis, and it is associated with higher risk of death.
