Resumen
Philanthropy plays a significant role in developing and promoting education over the world. The motives of philanthropy have been studied by designing different scales, most of which are based on the behavior of non-philanthropists, some scales even contain reverse answers for which complexity arises in calculating the scores, there have been limited studies on the educational philanthropic scale too. Danobir Dr. Syed Ragib Ali is one of the renowned philanthropists in Bangladesh, there are a good number of studies on his philanthropic contribution but very few of them focused on the level of educational philanthropy of Dr. Ali. This study aims to critically revisit the existing philanthropic scales so far to design an educational philanthropic scale and assess the level of educational philanthropy of Danobir Dr. Syed Ragib Ali using the newly formed scale. After carefully reviewing the literature, the study initially designed a 35-item ‘Educational Philanthropic Scale (EPS)’ and conducted a purposive online survey among 400 different levels of educational entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. Then, an exploratory factor analysis was conducted from the usable 317 responses and finally, a 27-item scale was prepared. The Cronbach’s Alpha has been tested for reliability and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) calculated for sampling adequacy. By using this scale it is found that Danobir Dr. Syed Ragib Ali is an exceptionally educational philanthropist. The findings of this study significantly contribute to the existing literature and can broadly be used to assess the educational philanthropic levels within individuals and organizations. The future researcher can find a new horizon to update the scale.

Resumen
Philanthropic activities have gained paramount importance in today’s world. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, the authors propose a model to comprehend the process of philanthropy (corporate as well as celebrity) in creating word of mouth intentions (hereafter WoM). Secondly, it attempts to explore the interaction effects of these philanthropies on WoM intentions. A structural equation model is tested in a sample of 400 FMCG consumers in Pakistan. The results confirm that both corporate and celebrity philanthropy directly and positively affect WoM intentions. However, their interaction effect is found to be insignificant on WoM intentions. This study has meaningful implications that involving philanthropic celebrities in corporate philanthropy-based advertisements may garner favorable consumers’ WoM intentions. It lies among the pioneering studies to empirically investigate the understudied model of corporate and celebrity philanthropy in order to understand the creation of WoM intentions.

Learning outcomes Learning outcomes are as follows: understand venture philanthropy in India; discuss in what ways venture philanthropy is different from charity; identify the aims of venture philanthropy and the strategy adopted to achieve those objectives; analyze the role of the unique structuring of a venture philanthropy working in tandem with the government to achieve its objectives; identify the nature and source of dilemmas of disengagement from a project by the venture philanthropist; and understand the role of antecedents and outcomes on how a firm views its social impact initiative (in the Indian context). Case overview/synopsis The Faizal and Shabana Foundation (F&SF) made one of the largest philanthropic investments in Kerala, India for the redevelopment of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakkavu. The foundation applied a strategic approach to their philanthropic investment making it a unique case of venture philanthropy. The uniqueness of this case lies in the fact that, this is one among those rare cases where venture philanthropy has been successfully implemented within a government educational context. This case highlights how a private philanthropic organization went about executing a project and faced several challenges of scaling up the redevelopment model to other government schools. The other salient aspect is that this case delves into the dilemma faced by a philanthropist of either using the existing model for scaling up or adopting a totally different model. Resumen
In recent years, political transitions have become a major area of interest to private actors, including philanthropies. More and more philanthropic foundations have chosen to donate money to support transitional justice processes across the globe. However, philanthropies often take on not only the role of a funder but also the role of an active participant in transitional justice (TJ) mechanisms. They push for the building of long-lasting partnerships with state authorities and international organizations, and, sometimes, take over and administer certain transitional justice processes. As a result, philanthropic foundations wield considerable power in transitional justice, especially when the state cannot or will not act. Given the significant and growing role of philanthropy in both established democracies and states in transition, it is necessary to look more closely at issues of philanthropic involvement in TJ processes. Their activity remains largely outside the margins of international law scholarship. This article aims to make philanthropic contributions a more visible object of scholarly scrutiny. This article will introduce the legal problems related to “philanthropic justice,” including concerns that speak for the need of more attention to the phenomenon. It will first show how private foundations engage in transitional justice mechanisms and spell out the concerns related to this philanthropic engagement in transitional justice. It will proceed with a discussion about the potential reasons why private foundations engage in international legal matters such as transitional justice. Further, the article will explore the United Nations’ legal frameworks on cooperation with the philanthropic sector. The last substantial part will cover the issues of responsibility of private actors under international law and why it is important in the context of transitional justice.

Resumen
Background Australia’s philanthropic sector is growing and could support efforts to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH). However, philanthropy is often misunderstood in Australia and there is limited evidence of philanthropic support for SRH initiatives. Methods: We aimed to understand the barriers and facilitators to philanthropic funding of SRH initiatives in Australia. A qualitative approach was used and involved 13 in-depth interviews with professionals from the philanthropic sector, and from organisations and services involved in SRH. Results: Barriers to organisations in seeking philanthropic funding for SRH activities included insufficient resources for writing grant applications and the small financial value of philanthropic grants. Facilitators to seeking philanthropic funding for SRH included a perception that government funding is shrinking and that philanthropic research grants are less competitive than government grants. Philanthropic participants identified that barriers to funding SRH include the sensitive nature of SRH and the perceived conservative nature of philanthropy. Facilitators identified by these participants in supporting SRH initiatives included networking and relationships between grant-makers and grant-seekers. All participants agreed that philanthropy does and could have a role in funding SRH in Australia. Conclusions: The findings of this research suggest that barriers to philanthropic funding for SRH in Australia exist for organisations attempting to access philanthropic funding. Philanthropic organisations could provide more financial support to Australian SRH service providers, as happens in countries such as the United States and United Kingdom. Addressing these barriers and promoting the facilitators could lead to increased awareness of SRH by Australia’s philanthropic sector.

Resumen
This study examines the role of philanthropy in the creative economy sector, focusing on the challenges and opportunities faced through a literature review. The creative economy plays a vital role in economic growth and cultural development, while philanthropy provides critical resources to support creative initiatives. However, the integration of philanthropy in this sector faces several challenges, including alignment between philanthropic goals and the needs of the creative industry, equitable distribution of funds, and evaluation of the impact of philanthropic contributions. The literature suggests that philanthropy can enhance innovation and cultural diversity, but there is a gap in understanding and communication between philanthropists and creative professionals. The effectiveness of philanthropic efforts is often hampered by bureaucracy and a lack of strategic alignment. Opportunities to enhance the role of philanthropy include strengthening collaboration between philanthropic organizations and creative actors, leveraging technology for more efficient fund distribution, and developing metrics to measure the impact of philanthropic investments. This study suggests that a more strategic, inclusive, and transparent approach to philanthropy in the creative economy sector could unlock substantial benefits, promoting innovation, cultural enrichment, and economic resilience. This study provides important insights for developing best practices in philanthropic engagement in the creative economy sector, ensuring that the needs of diverse creative communities are met and sustained.

Resumen
This study is crucial to see the reality of some philanthropic institutions that use religion to carry out their activities. There is many cases misused public funds, how the Prophet carried out philanthropic activities is important to review. This study uses a qualitative method, namely qualitative research using text as study material. The data source for this study is primary data from philanthropic institutions and hadith which discuss philanthropy and secondary the statements from scholars and experts on philanthropic activities. The data collection method was carried out by gathering information about philanthropic institutions in Indonesia and hadiths that relate to philanthropy. Data processing was carried out by elaborating with a multidisciplinary approach through linguistic, psychological, hadith science, and Syariah approaches. The findings of this study indicate that the collection and management of funds, philanthropic activities today are different from philanthropic activities during the Prophet’s times and companions. Philanthropy is an activity that has a parallel goal with Islamic law. Then needs to be emphasized that many philanthropic institutions actively collect donations from society must have a legal basis and be supervised by a competent supervisory agency.

Resumen
This study aims to analyze the legal politics behind the reform of Law No. 9 of 1961 concerning Collection of Money and Goods Related to Philanthropic Governance in Indonesia. Philanthropy has an essential role in advancing society and improving social welfare. However, regulations governing philanthropy in Indonesia are still relatively old-fashioned and have not accommodated the dynamics and complexities of today’s philanthropic practices. This study uses a normative legal research method with a juridical-critical approach. The research results show that Law No. 9 of 1961 has not been able to answer the challenges and needs of today’s philanthropy in Indonesia. Lack of assertiveness, limited scope, and underdevelopment of administrative requirements are obstacles to effective philanthropic governance. In addition, there is an imbalance of interests between philanthropic parties, beneficiaries, and the government, influencing the implementation and renewal of philanthropic policies. This research recommends law reform to improve philanthropic governance in Indonesia. Revision of Law No. 9 of 1961 must accommodate diverse philanthropic practices, emphasize corporate social responsibility, strengthen oversight mechanisms, and promote transparency and accountability in philanthropic practices. In addition, involving relevant actors such as philanthropic institutions, beneficiaries, government, and civil society in the renewal process is essential to reaching sustainable and inclusive agreements. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide valuable insights and recommendations for policymakers, legal practitioners, and related stakeholders to encourage the reform of Law No. 9 of 1961 to create more effective and sustainable philanthropic governance in Indonesi

Resumen
This article builds on the identification theory of philanthropy. It examines transnational philanthropy as a social phenomenon dependent on transnational “communities of participation” and their perceived needs. An empirical case study of the Prague Central European University (CEU) Foundation, founded in the Czech Republic by the American philanthropist George Soros, is used to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of the rejecting of a philanthropic project. Discourse analysis was conducted on a public media debate to uncover the key discursive categories that shaped the public controversy over the Prague CEU Foundation and made it possible to refuse the gift: philanthropic giving versus government control, gift versus calculation, cosmopolitism versus national interest, elitism versus egalitarianism. The article proposes that the acceptance or rejection of a charitable gift is a sensitive indicator of changing values, one that can be used in the study of social and political conflict and change.

Resumen
This article provided an anlytical description of the Muhammadiyah philanthropic movement to the Bajo community in Wakatobi. There were three important points hacked in this study, namely: (1). Why did Muhammadiyah choose the domain of education for its philatropical movement in the Bajo community? (2). what was the pattern of Muhammadiyah's educational philanthropic movement in the Bajo community? (3). what was the Bajo community's response to the Muhammadiyah-based pure Islamic education philanthropy movement? Data collection was done through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. Analyzing data used hermeneutic phenomenology approach. The results showed that the choice of moving in the realm of education by the local Muhammadiyah community was due to the essence of the education movement as a fulcrum for determining the quality of human resources, on the other hand expensive quality education services made most Bajo children to choose to go to sea rather than go to school. The choice of educational philanthrophy by Muhammadiyah was also due to the psycho-social reality of local children who were suspected of "experiencing" an inferiority complex when they interacted with the mainland children's community. The philanthropic movement pattern implemented by the local Muhammadiyah community was based on the philanthropic social movement, namely to form awareness of the local community about the urgency of education for future life continuity by relying on a belief system or religious basis. The smart work of the Muhammadiyah community combined with the positive action approach made the pure Islamic idea could be transformed into the Bajo cultural space through education and teaching in a natural humanistic manner, without causing controversy.

Resumen
This thesis derives important insights concerning the corporate philanthropic discourse of Australian listed firms. Corporate philanthropic discourse is analysed in two phases: (i) corporate philanthropic communication (Phase I) and (ii) corporate philanthropic involvement (Phase II). The first phase examines the noncommunication of corporate philanthropy. The second phase details the types and factors of corporate philanthropic involvement. In Phase I, a model on philanthropic communication is presented to better understand this (non-) communication and how such gift-giving is (or is not) communicated and in what form. In Phase II, the types and factors of corporate philanthropic involvement are examined. Data are gathered from over 1,500 annual reports and stand-alone sustainability reports for 2008.The findings of Phase I reveal that only 16.86 percent of Australian listed firms communicate any philanthropic information. This could be due to lack of clear reporting guidelines and absence of mandatory requirement for such disclosure. Further, it could also be argued that such muting is due to strategic reasons as communication opens the door for increased scrutiny. Yet more information dissemination, especially with better disclosure could enhance stakeholders’ confidence. Multivariate analyses indicate overwhelming evidence that firm size and profitability have a positive and statistically significant association with the extent of corporate philanthropic communication.Phase II focuses on corporate philanthropic involvement. Firms engage in various activities ranging from monetary to various types of non-monetary giving. Multiple regression results reveal that lagged free cash flow and firm size are statistically highly significant associated with corporate philanthropic involvement. These findings are consistent with slack resources theory tenets.Overall, the results from this thesis have implications for firms, regulators, investors, community and other interested parties. The key findings highlight over 80 percent (more than 1,200 Australian listed firms) choose to be completely silent on this key societal element. Given corporate philanthropy’s high prominence, the findings suggest that a more proactive effort to promote transparent and effective discourse is required with possible need for regulatory intervention.

Resumen
The market for philanthropic donations in America has been thriving since the 1950s. 89 percent of U.S. households make annual monetary donations to charitable organizations, contributing to 20 percent of all revenues in the nonprofit sector. Majority of the factors contributing to this growth in donations can be divided into three general categories: intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and marketing influence tactics. My thesis examines a plethora of past research to develop a comprehensive guide on the current theories of human behaviors as they pertain to charitable giving.

Philanthropy has long been a stakeholder in urban revitalization efforts, yet is often understood and described only as a source of grant capital. However, understanding some of the roles of philanthropic capital beyond grants, specifically philanthropic investments, knowledge creation, leadership, and operations, may reveal powerful, unexpected roles for philanthropy. This thesis explores perspectives on the accountability of Private Ancillary Funds (PAFs), a type of Australian endowed philanthropic foundation. Privately established for a public benefit purpose, with limited formal accountability requirements, there are differing and sometimes conflicting perspectives on the nature and scope of PAF accountability. Through in-depth interviews with managers and trustees of 10 PAFs, forms and relationships of PAF accountability are uncovered. Findings reveal accountability for PAFs does not necessarily include public disclosure or transparency. However, engagement with accountability for a PAF results in greater impact and satisfaction for those involved.

Assas, Roaa Ibrahim. "Designing an e-philanthropic website for the Saudi user." Thesis, Manchester Metropolitan University, 2015. http://e-space.mmu.ac.uk/617235/.

Texto completo
Resumen
Philanthropy is an important part of Saudi Arabia's identity as it is linked to the country's religion and culture. Even though nobody can deny how crucial philanthropy is for Saudis, it is not reflected virtually on the Internet. This PhD aims to enhance philanthropy by putting it in a virtual context. Online philanthropy is known as e-philanthropy and this research documents the design of an e-philanthropic tool that is appealing to users in Saudi Arabia. Its aim is to design an interactive website where users can communicate with each other to meet their specific needs. It explores the nature of philanthropy in the Saudi context and employs human-centred design and user-centred design approaches to create a website in support of this. It is based on qualitative and quantitative data collection from recipients of philanthropy and those who take an interest in the topic. This resulted in the design brief for a new ephilanthropic tool based on time giving, a concept closely related to time banking and something that, to date, has not been launched in Saudi Arabia. As time banking is the closest concept to that of time giving, this project investigated time banking as a philanthropic tool in other contexts. The design of the website for the Fair Shares time bank in the UK was analysed as a source in order to benefit the new project. This was achieved by using Agarwal and Venkatesh's (2002) Microsoft Usability Guideline, which was reformed by Pallud (2002). After investigating Saudi culture, the concept of time banking and the design features of a website in the field, the researcher-designer then created a time giving website named "Joud", a word which means liberality and generosity in Arabic. The process of creating this website was influenced by Schön's (1983) account of the reflective practitioner, where the designer looks for ways to order, resolve and improve their practice. After the design of the website was finished it was launched online at www.joudtime.org. The website was then evaluated using the same technique used to analyse the Fair Shares site; namely the modified Microsoft Usability Guideline. This was to improve the design and get a sense of whether the idea would work in Saudi Arabia or not. This study shows that time giving can be a philanthropic tool in Saudi Arabia. It also shows that using a human-centred design and a user-centred design method in order to investigate specific target users is a practical and useful approach. The outcome shows how the design would take the user into consideration especially in a philanthropic context. Moreover, the resulting design is the first that brings time giving to the Saudi user. As a result, the project met its aim to replicate the philanthropic culture of Saudi Arabia virtually by creating an ephilanthropic tool for their context.

Resumen
In the present study, the topic under scrutiny is how Philanthropic Corporate Social Responsibility plays a role within the workplace. This study is being presented due to the fact that CSR is often researched with the frame of reference of marketing, whereas the managerial perspective is not often considered. The research question addressed will take a managerial perspective on CSR and examine if implementing Philanthropic CSR only affects extrinsic factors, or if it also has an intrinsic effect on employee motivation. In this research, the questions undergoing discussion to support the study are 1) To what extent does CSR motivate employees? 2) What involvement level of CSR is required for employee motivation? 3) What level does CSR fit into on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs? This thesis focuses mainly on connecting Philanthropic CSR to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Other supporting theories that will be used include: Herzberg’s Motivation Hygiene Theory, McGregor’s X and Y Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Motivational Crowding Theory. To conduct the research needed, the authors have conducted a deductive study through a comparative design, obtaining qualitative data by the means of semi structured skype interviews. These interviews focus on American for-profit companies that have CSR in their strategy but focus on profit. The data collected has then been analyzed through a thematic approach. The information obtained suggests that Philanthropic CSR plays a role within the workplace, however, it is not seen as an incentive by employees. Moreover, an employee must be personally involved within the company’s CSR program to fully feel the effects that the program has to offer. This is due to the emotional investments made while participating in the said philanthropy. The conclusion found from this study is that Philanthropic CSR does have an intrinsic effect on employees because of the ‘feel good feeling’ they benefit from when they do participate in the Philanthropic CSR. However, to fully understand the effects of the motivational aspects, further research must be conducted.

Resumen
AbstractContemporary philanthropy relies on a gift/counter-gift process: a person making a donation receives benefits for it, mostly financial (tax deductions) or symbolic (recognition). Donor recognition is an important part of philanthropy and comes in many forms. One of them is donor plaques—on walls, signs, or objects/buildings—associated with naming, i.e., the material traces of recognition that have the name of the donor on them. The analysis of donor plaques deepens our understanding of the way the act of giving leaves traces. What are these traces of philanthropy? How long do donor plaques stay on the walls of institutions? How are they negotiated? How do they change the urban landscape at a bigger scale? This chapter aims at understanding the specificity and the symbolic role of donor plaques as traces left voluntarily by philanthropic donors. Focusing on an understudied topic (philanthropic traces) and based on two qualitative research conducted in philanthropic settings, it questions the relationship elite donors have with time and space through the analysis of a concrete object (the plaque). It also examines the meaning of these traces (and the values they convey), as well as the power relations (and resistances) they create.

Resumen
AbstractDrawing on the neo-institutional notion of organizational fields, we propose the concept of the philanthropic field to conceptualize the geography of giving and the interrelations of benevolent activities across the domains of private, public, and civic sectors. Empirically, we adopt a multi-method approach, including a media analysis of reported acts of giving in the German region of Heilbronn-Franconia, a social network analysis of its regional philanthropic relations, and qualitative interviews with representatives of non-profit organizations, corporations, and public as well as private intermediaries. Based on our analysis, we conclude that the philanthropic field is constituted by diverse actors from all sectors of society who engage in specialization, division of labor, and collaboration. Moreover, practices of giving spread across geographical scales, though the majority of activity concentrates on the local and regional level. We conclude by discussing the potentials and limits of our approach as a means to gain insights into local fields of philanthropy and benevolent action across societal sectors.

Resumen
The academic study of the philanthropic sector and civil society has grown rapidly in the last quarter of a century. What was once a sparsely populated and disconnected field now boasts university departments, peer-reviewed journals, and scholarly associations. ARNOVA, ERNOP, ISTR, and others showcase and spur on a good deal of research on the sector. Articles and monographs abound in the domains of social science, psychology, public policy, managerial science, etc. Yet the field has seen a decline in publications from several key areas. Ethics, philosophy, literature, religious studies, and even history are among the disciplines whose research is infrequently published in the field. Certainly, this narrowing of intellectual inquiry is not unique to philanthropic studies. As many universities adjust to declining enrollments, public skepticism, and reduced budgets pressure exists to shift curricula more toward vocational preparation. In addition, the ethos of empiricism creates doubt about the utility of research that is neither “objective” nor easily quantifiable. Our literature review shows the contours of this problem in philanthropic studies. Journals in this field publish few articles from humanistic disciplines. This trend also holds true in a broader search for scholarly literature using major academic search engines. In addition, the high-quality research that does exist at the intersection of philanthropy and the humanities is mostly disconnected and thus not in conversation. As such, we are on the cusp of publishing a new journal, Philanthropia, that creates space for scholars to engage in the humanistic study of philanthropy and civil society.

Resumen
Currently, there is a significant rise in the popularity of 3D donation programs, wherein numerous participants actively engage in mutual acts of charitable giving. Drawing upon extensive research conducted within these virtual philanthropic communities, we have developed and implemented a visualization system aimed at providing users with an immersive and playful experience while exploring and navigating large-scale 3D donation networks. Our design leverages familiar three-dimensional representations to introduce novel techniques for comprehending the interconnectedness of complex donation structures, supporting visual analysis and search capabilities, as well as automatically identifying and visualizing philanthropic clusters. Through public installations and controlled studies, our system has demonstrated its usability, ability to facilitate discovery, and potential for fostering enjoyable and socially engaging philanthropic activities.

Resumen
The urban policy context is characterised by a multiplicity of actors who bring to the urban debate a differentiated range of contributions, both immaterial and material, human capital and economic capital. In particular, for the last few decades, the contribution of actors not only from the public and private sectors, but also from civil society, the third sector and philanthropic finance, has been particularly noteworthy. Indeed, the reshaping of the new welfare state and a climate of perpetual crisis, combined with the exceptional situation related to the pandemic, have meant that philanthropic actors are now more involved in urban areas than ever before. Through this research, with the study of some significant European and Italian public policy documents, it aims to establish the present and future relationship between urban policies and philanthropic actors and it will highlight how urban regeneration can represent a link between these. Keywords: philanthropy, urban regeneration, crisis, foundations of banking origin.

This report explores the dynamics of community philanthropy and family philanthropy in Mexico in order to inform efforts to strengthen the connection between the two. In terms of community philanthropy, our primary focus is upon Mexico’s community foundation model, which is the most institutionalized form of community philanthropy and a uniquely important actor in the philanthropic ecosystem. Wealthy families and family businesses in Mexico are known to have strong local ties and to prioritize place-based development, and Mexico has more community foundations than any other Latin American country. In terms of family philanthropy, we have cast a wider net, interviewing families who work closely with community foundations, have their own private or company-linked foundations, or use a mix of organizational vehicles for their philanthropy. We also interviewed a handful of philanthropists who have not worked with community foundations, in order to get a sense of the full range of options.

Texto completo
Resumen
Donor advised funds (DAFs) are the fastest-growing form of philanthropy. In 2023, nearly 1.8 million DAF accounts received about $59 billion in contributions, distributed about $55 billion in grants, and ended the year with about $252 billion in assets (National Philanthropic Trust, 2024). The Donor Advised Fund Research Collaborative (DAFRC) is a group of academic and nonprofit researchers leading a 4-year, comprehensive research initiative to provide empirical data and insights on the characteristics and activities of donor advised funds (DAFs) in the United States. One of the initiative's main goals is to gather and analyze information about DAFs that is not available from publicly accessible data sources. The National Survey of Donor Advised Fund Managers is the second of three major nationwide projects conducted by the DAFRC. The first report, the 2024 National Study on Donor Advised Funds, provided empirical trends based on a national dataset of nine years of DAF records from 111 DAF providers. This report provides insights into sponsor-level practices associated with the facilitation of philanthropy through DAFs including strategy, operational capacity, philanthropic advising, internal policy execution, and the marketing of DAF sponsors. The final report, the National Survey of Donor Advised Fund Donors, will present insights into how individuals think about and use DAFs as part of their household giving.

Resumen
This working paper explores how philanthropic institutions with a history of supporting women’s and LGBTQI+ rights and democracy are seeing and responding to anti-gender backlash, and the background dynamics shaping the struggle. It is based on a scan commissioned by the Countering Backlash, Reclaiming Gender Justice research programme. The paper seeks to contribute to an analysis of the dynamics of patriarchal backlash by looking at the perspectives and priorities of the private philanthropic institutions on which many of the groups and initiatives affected by and challenging anti-gender backlash depend for their survival.

Texto completo
Resumen
The paper examines the simultaneous impact of private philanthropic cross-border funding from international foundations on the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable development in Africa. The vector error correction model (VECM) was used, and contrary to expectations drawn from past studies, funding from this source improves economic growth, advances human development, and enhances environmental quality. Causality test results also disconfirmed the assumption that interactions among the three dimensions were positive and complementary in the long term. The environment variable was found to be noncomplementary. Based on these unique results, theoretical propositions are made with an underlying mechanism of action. Practical and policy implications, limitations, and directions for future research are discussed.
