Texto completoThe seafloor exerts a major control on ocean circulation. The discrete representation of marine topography in geopotential Ocean General Circulation Models (OGCMs) creates artificial steps that have adverse effects on the simulated circulation. This thesis aims at finding suitable ways to address the adverse effects of stepped topography in z-coordinate OGCMs. Using idealized configurations and exploring the potential of the Brinkman Volume Penalisation (BVP) method, we investigate the sensitivity of modelled currents to the presence of artificial steps along model boundaries. We first address the spurious lateral form drag (or textit{staircase problem}) highlighted by Adcroft and Marshall (1998). We show that staircase-like coastlines (and isobaths) behave as smooth boundaries when applying a textit{true} mirror condition on the boundary flow. The discrete implementation of free-slip using flux-form advection and a symmetric viscous stress tensor actually corresponds to no-slip along stepped topography. The choice of viscous boundary condition should vary with location to capture the retroflection of boundary currents at capes. To become insensitive to stepped topography, numerical models should ideally achieve physical convergence (i.e. the main characteristics of the flow are not affected by increasing spatial resolution while keeping viscous and frictional parameters constant). This convergence can be attained at lower resolution with a careful treatment of discrete momentum advection involving a large stencil. We highlight the impact of momentum advection schemes on the fidelity of simulated downslope currents within an idealised overflow configuration. The BVP method allows to spread the land-ocean interface, by introducing porous cells that are half-land half-ocean. We find that this spreading allows to smooth bottom currents and to reduce spurious mixing during downslope flow. The numerical stability of the BVP can be guaranteed by sufficient spreading of the boundary and by defining permeability (friction within porous cells) in a consistent way. The results underscore the potential of the BVP method to better represent flows along topography in OGCMs

Texto completoThe system modeling a two incompressible phase flow with high porosity in an oil-field is governed by the law of Darcy-Brinkman. The velocity of filtration of Darcy leads to an elliptic equation in pressure and a degenerate parabolic equation in saturation. This system is widely used in porous media. In this thesis, we are interested in the modification of Brinkman which consists in modifying Darcy’s law by adding a viscosity disspative term. This system leads to an elliptic equation in pressure and unstandard parabolic equation in saturation regularized in time. First, we are interested in the mathematical study of the Darcy-Brinkman’s system and in the regularity of the solutions. To simulate numerically the solutions of this problem, we study the convergence of a finite-volume scheme on an admissible mesh for a homogeneous porous media. Then, we propose a combined method of finite volume - nonconforming finite element type to deal with the anisotropic of the media. In the second part of this thesis we deal with the compressibility of the fluids. We suggest a model of Darcy- Brinkman to describe the compressible monophasic case. We show that this model is well posed in dimension one in the whole space. Then, under the hypothesis of Bear, we also show that this model is well posed in dimension d ≥ 2

Texto completoThe erosion is a major cause of failure in the hydraulic structures such as levees and dams. The territory has more than 10000 km of dikes, resulting in an important issue in terms of flood risk. A more general approach is essential to a good understanding of phenomena. Modeling mechanisms of erosion must develop solutions to secure the books and make them less susceptible to these phenomena. This work is devoted to modeling the evolution of an interface between a soil domain and a flow domain. The movement of this interface is governed by soil erosion driven by the flow. The flow is calculated by the Stokes equations with a penalty term for the unified representation of the behavior of the two domains. In a first part, we address the issue of representation of erosion. The second part deals more specifically with the unified representation of behavior settings, including the use of penalty methods. The third part is a review of the main methods of interface capture. A detailed description of the Level Set method is given. In the fourth section, , we discuss the numerical solution of flow equations. The fifth section brings together all of the testing method. The last part is devoted to applying the model in three cases: the "Hole Erosion Test", the phenomenon of suffusion and the erosion of river bed around a bridge pier
