By placing ourselves in the theoretical paradigm which takes into account the sociological dimension of a translation which undermines the myth of an objective translation and a transparent translator, we sought to study the translator’s subjective, ideological, emotional interventions. The analysis of the translator's traces, revealing a conscious manipulation which seeks to produce a persuasive effect or a more or less unconscious interpretation imbued with the translator's own emotions will allow us to show the transformations that the pathemic expressions of the discourse (the emotional charge of the discourse, the ethos or the image that the author projects of himself, etc.) go through as well as the consequences got on the level of the identity construction of the conflict’s protagonists.

Resumen
In this article, I address the critical reception of Nanni Balestrini's narrative work, focusing in particular on the novel Vogliamo tutto (1971). I compare the interpretative model, which sees this text as overcoming the novelistic form and moving toward the epic, with a similar model in György Lukács' foundational text The Theory of the Novel (1916), which sets up an opposition between the novel, understood as an expression of the irrelevance of private existence in our society, and the idea of a “rebirth” of the epic as a redemptive collective dimension. In order to investigate the textual mechanisms that generate a reading experience that has been defined resorting to the cliché of the epic, I draw on Lukács' later Aesthetics (1962). In this work, he offers a response to the impasses of his earlier thought by using the concept of catharsis, which explains the effects of a work of art on the reader/viewer through the pathetic energy generated by the dissolution of the subjective perspective. Through a close reading of key passages from Vogliamo tutto, I show how the rhetorical structure of the text is grounded in a repeated dissolution of the narrative point of view (the narrator's voice) in the collective voice of the workers. I argue that the “pathetic intensity” produced by this loss of subjectivity inscribes the communal existence of the political struggles of the time in the immediacy of the reading experience.

Resumen
Herbert F. Tucker, “Verse Visa: Dickens Adapts Poetry in The Old Curiosity Shop” (pp. 433–451) In Charles Dickens’s The Old Curiosity Shop (1841), Dick Swiveller’s hilariously eclectic misquotation of popular verse coexists with Dickens’s own grave proclivity to fall into unlineated yet incantatory blank verse when orchestrating the death of Little Nell. These complementary prose effects freshly showcase the novelist’s joint commitments to humorous and pathetic renditions of the modern condition. They also underscore the coalescence of the novel as such, circa 1840, out of a miscellany of barely compatible ingredients, as the still-burgeoning genre sought to displace, whether by sidelining or by incorporation, poetry’s millennial prestige.

Resumen
Chronic inflammation is commonly accompanied by the stimulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) production and the degradation of the extracellular matrix. The overexpression of MMP-9 (Gelatinase B) highly participates in the progression of pathetic cardiac remodeling and liver cancer metastasis. Panax notoginseng (Burkill) F. H. Chen (Sanqi), a widely used traditional Chinese medicinal herb, shows myocardial protective and anti-tumor effects. In this study, we examined the inhibitory effect of different PNG extracts on tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced MMP-9 expression in cardiac myoblast H9c2 cells. Using a bioassay-guided fractionation scheme, the most active extract was fractionated by silica gel column chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography until an active compound was obtained. The compound was identified as Ginsenoside Rb1 by nuclear magnetic resonance. Ginsenoside Rb1 inhibited TNF-α-induced MMP-9 production in both H9c2 and liver carcinoma HepG-2 cells. Interestingly, it did not affect the MMP-2 (Gelatinase A) level and the cell proliferation of the two cell lines. The inhibitory effects of Ginsenoside Rb1 may be due to its modulation of double-strand RNA-dependent protein kinase and nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathways. The results reveal the potential use of Ginsenoside Rb1 for the treatment of inflammatory and MMP-9-related cardiac remodeling and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinomas.

Resumen
This article aims at analyzing how the redefinition of the subjects of the narrative staging, channel, and semiological codes determines the renewal of the literary contract of the short story "Conto de Escola" in its 2002 reprint by Cosac Naify publishers, taking into account the Semiolinguistic Discourse Analysis Theory and, in a subsidiary way, the studies of editorial paratexts and visual forms. The Machadian short story, originally published in 1884, was reprinted, in a book of the same name, as a verbal-visual hybrid text by the publisher's initiative and the work of Nelson Cruz, who authored the illustrations and the editorial project. The most relevant implications of this process of renewal of the literary contract are the amplification of the effects of meaning and, more particularly, the intensification of the pathemic effects as a result of the word-image interaction, which is inserted in a material and discursive mise-en-scène, organized by the editorial paratexts. This results in inscribing children as target readers, unlike previous contracts, which now allows for the book under analysis to be identified as potential literature for children.---Original in English.

Resumen
As successive studies have shown that chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are ineffective in treating COVID-19, this article investigates how the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, disputes the truth around science to convince the population that these drugs can save lives, preserve jobs and restore economic growth. Using Charaudeau's theory [Charaudeau, 2007, 2010} as a methodological framework, as well as understanding that right-wing populism has embodied post-truth communication as a distinctive feature of contemporary politics, we observed Bolsonaro's weekly Facebook live streams — known as ‘lives’ — for 14 weeks, identifying them as a communicative device that offers Bolsonaro the material conditions to interact directly with his public. Finally, we structured our analysis according to the three most common themes — questioning delays due to an insistence on scientific methodology, overvaluation of personal experiences and emphasis on individuals' freedom of choice — to observe the emotional images and discursive scenarios the Brazilian president stages to produce the intended pathemic effects of his discourse: hope and urgency; trust and distrust; freedom and polarization.

Resumen
Purpose: This paper investigates the collaboration of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) adopted and macroeconomic variables interaction with information asymmetry, analysts following and managerial opportunism affecting the cost of equity capital, and also influence investor’s decision taking on companies in South Africa. Design/Approach: A sample of 49 listed Johannesburg mining and manufacturing firms was extracted from archival database of INET BFA/IRESS SA, Morningstar, and Anupedia. A leverage fixed effects panel data set of firms from 2001 to 2014 was examined, which shows that Breusch-Lagrange Multiplier tests and the test of over-identifying restrictions used, form the basis of the content analysis of the most recent IFRS effect after mandatory adoption. We used a hand-collected dataset between 2000 and 2015. Findings: Our findings suggest that a significant association is found between IFRS and its interactions with managerial opportunism and integrity but with a reasonable statistical effect. However, the IFRS adoption effect on the cost of equity capital of South African firms’ has no significant effect. Practical implications: This study reveals that most firms report more, the credibility of annual financial statements which may not be sufficient because of the qualitative data for an assessment of managerial opportunism, information asymmetry and analysts following. Of such myopia of company managers, their reputation causes agency problems and as a result, shareholders interest is mainly focused on improving reporting standards Originality: The research considers dual harmonizing facets: first, that the interaction with IFRS adoption and economic factors impact on the cost of equity capital may be so pathetic and obvious; and second, that IFRS moderation impacts on the cost of equity capital in Sub- Saharan African. This finding should be meaningful to managers, analysts, policymakers, and supervisory bodies in nations with similar capital structure decisions and socioeconomic systems.

Resumen
The present work aims to establish the relationship between text, discourse and rhet-oric, identifying and discussing the strategic marks of the use of repetition, in the construction of manipulative meanings in the self-help text, from a sociocognitive-discursive perspective. Thus, we present the resource of repetition, which we associate with the mobilization of pathos in self-help To this end, we theoretically rely on Koch (2004) and Koch and Elias (2016) to address the functions of repetition in the text; Cavalcante et alii (2020) and Amossy (2008) to substantiate the relationship between text and argumentation in discourse; Breton (1999) and Charaudeau (2009; 2010) to ad-dress the manipulation of affects and repetition. Methodologically, this research presents a qualita-tive, descriptive and documentary approach, with an analysis of self-help works. As a result, several paraphrased ideas were found to be combined simultaneously with other repetition strategies in the sequencing of the chapters of the works, such as syntactic parallels and lexical and sound reitera-tions, added to other linguistic-discursive resources which we relate to pathemic meaning effects. and with the possibilities of manipulation of the subject-reader of self-help

Resumen
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is an annual rate of 7 million deaths because of tobacco use, and this rate is expected to step up to 8 million deaths in 2030 by virtue of smoking-related health complications. Furthermore, it is pathetic to know that almost more than 23% of high school students use tobacco, which if continued at the current rate; about 5.6 million teenagers would be vulnerable to death as mentioned by the World Health Organization. On the other hand, smokers do not only harm themselves but also increase the incidence of pneumonia, asthma, and bronchitis for passive smokers, which by the way contribute to the development of lung cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, infant death syndrome and slow-growing lung cancer are prevalent in children with continuous exposure to second-hand smoke. These adverse effects emerge from the complex mixture of chemicals present in submicron-sized particles suspended in cigarette smoke like carbon monoxide, benzene, nitrogen oxides, and other gases. Thus, it seems that tobacco smoking has been spreading worldwide as an epidemic with devastating lethal disorders represented in diverse pulmonary, neurological, and cardiovascular-related diseases. Wherefore, this paper discusses the harmful effects of tobacco smoke on human health in accordance with the modern advanced genetic technologies used in exploratory investigations for the relation between smoking and the emergence of human diseases.

Resumen
As living conditions in societies get harder on a daily basis with no hope in sight as to the remedies, people in different parts of societies indulge in forms of immoral acts for survival. Young people, against their wishes, are trafficked for the purpose of prostitution and other ignominious reasons. The depravity that societies are thrown into seriously affects their economic and moral development negatively. It is pathetic that mainly, prominent politicians elected into strategic positions abet the immoralities for their selfish reasons. The kingpins of the shady deals see themselves as the owners of the society; hence, they give impetus to their stooges who operate without fear. Concerned creative writers and other artists decry this ugly trend by mirroring the ill activities in their works in a way that the effects on societies are made obvious. This paper thus aims to x-ray the various forms of depravity as mirrored by Ifeanyi Ajaegbo in Sarah House, expose those involved in the nefarious acts and, as well, explore the consequent effects on societies.

Emotion clearly holds a primordial place in the construction of post-attack media discourse. It has been the subject of multitude studies in of linguistic research focusing both on its lexical categorization and on the various actantial structures. We proposed this reflection on the observables of the emotion of fear in journalistic discourse by ensuring that the grammatical and semio-narrative dimensions of fear and its modes of semiotization are taken into account. Our thesis, for the most part, will focus on the modalities of manifestation of the emotion caused by the attacks of November 13 in Paris in Parisian and national journalistic discourse. When the press talk about the terror of a terrorist act, it uses both informative and immersive tools. The newspaper therefore finds itself caught between firstly a constraint of credibility and objectivity and secondly a constraint of an emotional capture of the reader, i.e. the informant must tell the attack according to a discursive mode that assures a rigorous description of the facts by creating “an effect of objectivity”, and also according to a dramatizing descriptive mode expected to produce an emotion of fear. One of the challenges of this thesis is the observability of the pathemic effect when it is not based on a lexical anchoring. The present work is therefore intended to be a reflection on the verbal and non-verbal means mobilized in the discourse of the post-attack press allowing the semiotization of the emotion of fear. In other words, the thesis aims to understand the syntactic-semantic and semio-narrative parameters that can make an emotion of fear manifested when it comes to a terrorist event striking in the middle of Paris.Through this thesis, we would like to draw new avenues of reflections on the different modalities of the semiotization of emotion in the discourse of the press to decipher the content of texts and images. Not only according to the phenomenon of denotation but also according to the connotative facts

Although emotions are essential condition for humans, theoretical and modern fragments show that have a lack of scientific production about this theme in organizational communication´s zone. That is why, in the same time that exists a theoretical deficiency about this theme in organizational communication´s zone, throughout organizations history, there was subjective suppression for Cartesian and quantitative logics valorization. In this side, this dissertation aim to develop a scientific research that organize how pathemics discourse´s effects are used for an organization that is involved in a big crashe, as a strategy to neutralize images and reputation damages and to collaborate with organizational communication research zone, developing a study that result in scientific contribution for public relations area, especially from emotions in organizational discourses study. Therefore, this study was elaborate from a applicate research of descriptive level and, in first three chapters, we use as a methodological process the bibliographic revisions of authors as Farias,Trindade, Mosca, Santaella, Kunsch, Charaudeau, Maingueneau, Freitas e Halliday. In fourth and fifth chapter was utilized, as date collection, the simple observation, documental research and interview with Samarco communication coordinators. From a cross between a Google trends research and pathemics effects production categories of Charaudeau (2010), we reach to corpus delimitation analyses that was composed by communication Samarco´s action \"Is always convenient to look for all sides\". That is why, we use as approach model the discourses analyses proposed by Charaudeau (2010) to pathemics effects measurement that is based between - communicational situation, shared knowledge universe and declarative strategy. Finally, we consider that the action as public relation initiative oriented for transparency and clarification of Samarco attitudes for damage containment was worth as institutional legitimization, as much as with employments and as much as in the public domain, by spontaneous press and in the digital context of organic digital medias (youtube, facebook, twitter). Meanwhile, the action only become to a communication problem of legitimacy and positioning, when adopts as discourse dispositive the pay media (advertising spot and paid media insertion in high reach magazine). This occurs because paid medias, as Charaudeau (2010, p. 85) demonstrate, are inside in a contractual logical accepted between broadcasters and listeners of semi-mislead.

Resumen
Child figures have traditionally been dismissed as simple objects of pathos, but the articulation of pity in tragedy is complex. Different mechanisms for the creation of emotional effects are explored, with attention to Aristotle’s views on ‘fear and pity’ in tragedy. Comparison is drawn with the use of children in legal cases to inspire pity, and the importance of future roles is discussed. The legal frameworks of past action/future obligations are considered as a backdrop to different plays. Supplication contexts are considered, and the role of Eurysakes in Sophocles’ Aias is examined as an example of pathetic effects combined with more threatening hints of the child as a danger. The chapter concludes by showing how potential is both a contributory and a mitigating factor in the tragic deployment of pathetic effects.

Resumen
Based on the analysis of two “Loneliness” poems united by a common theme, the paper considers two main ways Bunin went to create the prosaism effect in his poetry: one is preserving the lyrical content while transforming the lyrical form; another is eliminating the lyrical content while preserving the lyrical form. In the first case, the level of intimacy and the confession feeling are increased, the content of the poem being the directly expressed feelings and experiences of the author, his spiritual experience. The form of the poem in this case is largely based on negative techniques (Yuri Lotman): weakening of rhythm and rhyme, simplicity of lexical means, “unadorned” speech, lack of tropes. In the second case it is vice versa: the rich, traditionally decorated poetic form is preserved, but pathetic lyricism and subjective point of view on the world are almost completely eliminated. Bunin had different reasons for such poetic experiments. On the one hand, it is the unity of the artistic world of the author who wrote both poetry and prose. On the other hand, it is a general tendency in modernist literature to blur the boundaries between genres and types of literature.

Resumen
Machines are getting intelligent day by day. Modern science has gifted us many boons but simultaneously the mental, physical and spiritual disorders have surprisingly disturbed smile, peace and definite attitude and lifestyle of individual and all human beings. The stress has been the biggest challenge against mankind like nuclear weapons, global warming, and epidemics. It leads towards tension, frustration, and depression and ultimately in extreme cases towards the suicide or murder of innocents. The happiness index, safety of individual, living parameters have drastically challenged us and India specially has pathetic situation among global quality of life (QoL) index. This chapter is an effort to define a simulated model and framework for the subjective quality of stress into quantitative parameters and mathematically analyzing it with help of popular machine learning tools and applied methods. Using machine intelligence, authors are trying to establish a framework which may work as an expert system and may help the individual to grow self as better human being.

Resumen
This chapter explores John Dos Passos’s U. S. A. in depth, beginning with the innovative form of the novel, which brings together disparate novels, sections, and characters into a single epic. The United States itself is the novel’s protagonist, and its plot is the first thirty-odd years of the twentieth century, a dizzying period of upheaval, boom, and bust. Dos Passos’s sympathies lie with the common man attempting to navigate this landscape, and his epic of the everyman follows a dozen protagonists. subverts the predominant ideology of American society, which held individuals as beneficially distinct and alone, instead placing them into relationship as members of a larger body, who—like or unlike, known or unknown—are brought into contact with each other as a simple and natural matter of existence. Yet he also chronicles the failed promise of interwar Marxism, a futile and pathetic effort that winds up disappointing its adherents.

Resumen
More than 4 years since the UNISDR Sendai framework replaced its predecessor, Hyogo, communities’ resilience to flooding is still a major issue for especially the developing countries (DCs) such as Nigeria where there are unresolved limitations with early warning systems. The recent increase in human and economic damages caused by floods and the inability of communities to recover from the effects, despite years after the disaster, indicate that the global concept of resilience has not been fully grasped. Nigeria, which is the subject of this chapter, typifies this situation. Evidently, the historic flooding of 2012 and its predecessors affected many communities and individual victims most of whom are still struggling with disaster recovery and reconstruction. This raises important research questions. What is not understood in the present context is that government institutions have made a lot of politicizing various interventions and local initiative, but the present reality is a “pathetic travesty of disaster recovery.” This chapter elucidates on these issues through theoretical discussions on community participation, risk-informed investment, and rural adaptation, all of which can be advocated to facilitate community resilience and coping capacity to all variants of flood hazards in Nigeria.

Resumen
Abstract The serious plays suffer less than do the comedies from a bewildering welter of violent critical disagreements. In attempting to convey the nature of the plays, and in particular to insist upon the considerable spread of possibilities in form and effect open to the playwright, I should perhaps beg indulgence for again thumping the tub of diversity. To a distressing number of specialists, however, as to most of those less informed, late seventeenth-century drama has seemed ‘positively schizophrenic’, hopelessly split between two ‘implacably opposed forms, Restoration comedy and tragedy’. But just as The Way of the World is no essence for all comedy, The Conquest of Granada is no essence for all heroic drama, and certainly not for the majority of serious plays. Some illustration of the most common types is then in order: they range from the straight heroic and villain tragedy, to high tragedy, the pathetic, the various sorts of ‘tragicomedy’, the operatic spectacular, and the plays which turn on history and politics. Fairly short accounts of single plays should suffice. Interpretative disagreements here are straightforward; some, however, are basic and unresolved—largely those concerning the heroic plays. Are the best of these works frivolous and empty, or are they profound intellectual disquisitions? Are they escapist fantasy or important social and political commentary? Are they self-satiric by design, or serious assertions of what they avowedly preach?

Resumen
This chapter traces relationships between material processes and cultural logics of enclosure. Waste land—land not under cultivation, producing no revenue for the state—was the raw material of colonial capitalism. Waste also names the by-products of such transformations: lives and lands laid waste. These processes entail ways of seeing and knowing; aesthetic regimes help to naturalize property regimes. The literary personification of nature (as in the pathetic fallacy) is bound up with the objectification of humans: aesthetic renderings of landscape can reinforce a dehumanizing, anti-commons common sense. These resource logics understand nature as separate from humans, disposed for their use, and subject to their control. The chapter considers the role of European imperialism in consolidating ideas about nature and natural resources, situating new materialist accounts of non-human agency within a broader historical context. Mahasweta Devi’s “Dhowli” anchors an examination of a worldwide history of waste, which begins (for John Locke) when “all the world was America.” Devi’s story bears the traces of successive waves of conquest and enclosure in India and offers an Anthropocene allegory avant la lettre—which the chapter juxtaposes with East India Company officials’ observations of the effects of deforestation, a foundation for modern climate science.

Resumen
Introduction: The Evidence Based Medicine in oncological sciences is founded on many factors. Pathetic state of patient retrieval system and follow up are some of the inherent problems faced in developing countries. The absence of follow up seems to affect the patient survival, intervention in case of predictive recurrence, and it also fails to fortifies authenticity of research and survival data. Paper outlines histrionics, evolved/recommended methodologies, nationwide survey with regards to authenticity of Evidence Based Practices in Oncological research. It opens the facts sheet of awareness, practice of follow-up and obstacles faced in India institutions. Relevant for obstetricians adopting Gynec Oncology. Aims and Objective: (1) To Evaluate the Evidence based practice of Gynec Oncology, (2) To evaluate the effectiveness of follow up methodologies, (3) Compliance of institutions and oncologist with regards to follow-up of Gynec cancer patients. Materials and Methods: The follow up methodology propagated; 1–6 address system (IARC 3 Address System), 2-Postcarding, 3-SMS/Telephony, 4-Door to door patient retrieval, 5-Family Physician referrals/feedback, 6-Software Alert on follow up defaulters in the Hospital Based Cancer Registry. etc. A stock taking was started 10 years back with repeated circulars on dates of “The National Cancer Calendar” (one date every months) that were sent to some 10,000 E-mail address of personnel/institutions connected with oncological sciences. Over five years 150 postgraduate examinees and 50 faculty in various institutions were interviewed on their 1 - Practicing Evidence Based Gynec Oncology and 2 - Understanding of Follow up/patient retrieval system practices in Gynec cancers. As an inspector of a major medical accreditation institution 50 institutions were inspected and existence of their follow up methodologies were evaluated. 100 post graduate dissertations reviewed, were studied with regards to status of follow up in the study carried out or the existence of follow-up system in the institution. Undergraduate students and their text books were searched if they are educated about follow up and necessity of patient retrieval system and its significance in Medical sciences. Faculty/Specialist of Obs and Gyn departments were interviewed for the same. Observations and Results: Response to circulars on follow up in cancer patients was cold shouldered, 95 percent of examinee PG students did not know how to follow up the cancer patients, out which as many as 90 percent of their institutions did not have any follow up system in order. 99 percent of dissertation did not show any effort from the side of candidate for patient retrieval system in order to fortify the research data. Only 20 percent institutions had infrastructure and significant effort (including door to door retrieval) on following up the patients that are treated there. Non of the undergraduate text books had guidelines or teaching in follow up so were total blankness of concept of follow up with undergraduate students. The awareness of Evidence based practice of Gynec oncology in most of the faculty of Obs and Gyne Departments was abysmal and “Not Necessary or Not possible” issue. Conclusion: Death and prolongation of survival both in curable and not so curable gynec cancers is directly related to Patient retrieval through follow up that generates evidence on Indian patients. In order to improve the survival and timely therapeutic intervention, follow up has to be strengthen at under graduate and post graduate medical teaching. This also applies for the authenticity of oncological research data that is produced in large numbers in developing countries. This is especially significant in the large poor socio economic gynec cancer patient population with poor literacy levels and far off homes from cancer treatment centres.
