Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to update the Team Performance Management (TPM) readership on the development of the journal since the first review article was written in 2007. Design/methodology/approach – Each of the 136 articles published in the journal between 2007 and 2012 were analyzed to identify interesting trends and patterns. Findings – The USA still holds the top positions in terms of the largest number of published articles, and a total of 28 countries are represented by first author affiliation. Academic first authors have increased from 69 to 92 percent since the 2007 analysis. Of the total articles published from 2007-2012, 32 percent of the articles are single authored, while 35 percent are double authored. The majority of the authors published just once in the journal (84 percent) during that period. The publication of research articles has increased from 55 to 67 percent. The most popular article achieved 4,310 downloads. Research limitations/implications – This study is not a rigorous statistical analysis, but rather seeks to provide an update on the 2007 analysis, with a review of the last six years' articles published in the journal. As before, only the first author's details were used for the analysis, which may have caused a slight bias in the findings. Originality/value – This article provides a quick guide in terms of the types of articles published in TPM during the last six years and with the 2007 article, gives an overview of the journal and team performance management research in the last 18 years.

The past decade has seen major changes in the management of blunt, traumatic thoracic aortic injury. The increasing use and improvement of computed tomography scans and endovascular stent grafts have changed management paradigms by allowing more rapid diagnosis and definitive repair with less physiologic stress on the patient. Short- and long-term data support this trend, as well as the advantages of delayed repair for stable aortic injuries.

Resumen
Carcinoma of the gallbladder is an aggressive disease, often with a poor prognosis. Although the incidence has remained relatively stable over the past decade, an increase in laparoscopic cholecystectomy has resulted in a increase in cases detected at earlier stages offering an opportunity for better prognosis. Diagnostic techniques including ultrasound (US), endoscopic US (EUS), computed tomography (CT) with multiplanar reconstruction, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and diagnostic laparoscopy have evolved. Surgical resection to negative microscopic margins with lymphadenectomy offers the only chance for long-term survival. Adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation may be indicated in a subset of patients, and data have suggested a beneficial effect on overall survival. A multidisciplinary approach is required for the optimal management of this complex disease.

Resumen
Rib fractures are the most common injuries in chest trauma. Fracture fixation has been traditionally performed in flail chest patients. Over the past years, the indication has been extended to multiple, severely displaced non-flail pattern fractures. Other less common indications for osteosynthesis have also been considered. Severe pneumonia and lung contusion requiring mechanical ventilation are considered contraindication for surgical fixation. The optimal timing for the intervention is the first week. Several devices have been developed for fracture fixation; titanium plates are the most commonly used. Rib fixation offers patients a more rapid recovery with shorter length of hospital stay and of intensive care unit stay with improved respiratory function and pain management in the short and long term.

Resumen
This paper summarizes and evaluates past, current and expected actions concerning waste management in the chemical and petrochemical industries. Industrial waste management has evolved from an “end of pipe” treatment mentality to holistic environmental waste management with source reductions as the preferred option. In most cases significant costs savings have resulted and environmental and public health impacts minimized. This current thrust has resulted from recent regulatory actions. Future trends will require management changes. To be effective, the management approach selected must address the following issues: regulatory/legal considerations and trends; environmental management systems; toxicity measurement characterizations; ecotoxicity assessment evaluations; source reduction and waste minimization; treatment trends and innovative treatment techniques; residual management.

Resumen
Overall survival in severe aplastic anemia has markedly improved in the past four decades due to advances in stem cell transplantation, immunosuppressive therapies and supportive care. Horse anti-thymocyte globulin plus cyclosporine is the standard immunosuppressive regimen in severe aplastic anemia, and often employed as initial therapy as most are not candidates for a matched related stem cell transplantation. With this regimen, hematologic response can be achieved in 60 to 70% of cases, but relapse is observed in 30 to 40% of responders and clonal evolution in 10 to 15% of patients. Efforts to improve outcomes beyond horse anti-thymocyte globulin plus cyclosporine have been disappointing, with no significant improvement in the critical parameter of hematologic response, which strongly correlates with long-term survival in severe aplastic anemia. Furthermore, rates of relapse and clonal evolution have also not improved with the development of three drug regimens or with more lymphocytotoxic therapies. Therefore, horse anti-thymocyte globulin plus cyclosporine remains the standard immunosuppression of choice as first therapy in severe aplastic anemia. Interestingly, survival has markedly improved over the years in large part due to better anti-infective therapy and more successful salvage therapies with immunosuppression and stem cell transplantation. In this review general aspects of diagnosis and management are discussed.

Resumen
Portal hypertension resulting from cirrhosis was one of the biggest challenges faced by general surgeons up until the past two decades. The management of portal hypertensive variceal hemorrhage has undergone dramatic changes during this period. Endoscopic variceal ligation and transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts are currently used with great success. The degree of liver dysfunction remains the most important determinant of outcome in these patients. Patients with cirrhosis who have good liver function and recurrent variceal bleed remain candidates for shunt surgery. However, the need for surgical intervention has become a rarity. The success of liver transplantation has ensured that portal hypertension is cured permanently and one does not often see the critically ill and decompensated patient with cirrhosis on the surgical service. A review of the current treatment options in this very ill patient population is the primary focus of this article.

Although the American contribution to business education is well-known, that of other nations has been largely overlooked. In this article, Professor Locke reviews the very different history of business education in Germany, which he traces from its early twentieth-century origins to the present. He concludes that, while the German model no longer has the international reputation it did before World War II, it continues to promote solid economic growth.

The treatment of renal and ureteral stones has undergone rapid and major changes over the past ten years. Extracorporeal Shockwave lithotripsy has become the most commonly used modality for the treatment of renal and upper ureteral stones. Lower ureteral stones are more commonly being approached by retrograde techniques. Percutaneous nephrolithotomy, medical therapy, and open surgical nephrolithotomy offer viable alternatives in given situations. Presented here is the current application of each of these techniques, both alone and in combination, for the treatment of urinary stones.

Resumen
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to give an up-to-date and structured insight into the literature published during the past decade on sustainable green supply chain management. It also suggests trends for future research based on the research issues identified through systematic and comprehensive analysis of previous studies in the area of green and sustainable supply chain management. Design/methodology/approach A state-of-the-art literature review is carried out by systematically collecting the existing literature over a period of 10 years (2005-2014) and categorizing it on the basis of attributes such as stages in supply chain, methodology and the industries/sectors under consideration. The classification of literature is also done according to the geographic region and year of publication. Findings There has been an increased interest among researchers and practitioners in the area of sustainable green supply chain management in the past decade. A need for achieving sustainability through adoption of greener practices has been universally felt, owing to an increasing environmental and ecological complexity. The review reveals that there exists a need to address behavioural issues like human resource management and supply chain partner relationship management. Moreover, reverse logistics, closed-loop supply chain management and waste management are areas that need special focus to achieve environmental sustainability. Research limitations/implications The current review focuses on research trends in the past 10 years only. Moreover, papers from only good quality, peer-reviewed journals are considered in the study. Originality/value Most of the previous reviews have either focused on specific issues related to sustainable supply chains only or green supply chains. The present study collectively takes into consideration papers both from green supply chain management as well as from sustainable supply chain literature that have a prime focus on environmental sustainability.

Resumen
Purpose Career interruptions of employees imply important issues for both firms and individuals, including a possibly lower compensation after returning to a job. Different compensation components are explored, as bonus payments frequently complement fixed salaries for many employees, making various channels of lower compensation possible. This paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach This study is based on a yearly salary survey among a rather homogeneous group of professionals and middle managers from the German chemical sector, which contains detailed information on compensation components next to individual and job characteristics. The incidence and duration of past career interruptions act as the most important independent variables. Mincer-type wage regressions are complemented by estimations on wage increases. Findings The results show that career interruptions are more related to lower subsequent bonus payments than they are to fixed salaries. Furthermore, interruptions caused by unemployment are associated with higher interruption pay gaps than those resulting from other reasons such as parental leave. The results even hint for catch-up effects following parental leave with regard to higher wage increases compared to individuals without interruptions. Career interruptions are more prevalent for female managers offering an explanation for a considerable part of gender pay gaps. Wage losses after career interruptions are more pronounced for male employees than they are for females, though. Originality/value This study extents the literature by disentangling the relation of career interruptions and different compensation components, bonus payments next to fixed salaries in particular. The role of interruption type and gender are also taken into account so that the paper deepens the understanding of the role of past career interruptions for employees’ remuneration.

Resumen
Technological changes that come with industrial revolution have largely affected businesses, as well as society. With the current technological shift and Fourth Industrial Revolution, many questions arise regarding the impacts and effects on current ways businesses operate. This study presents a retrospective analysis and overview of previous industrial revolutions. The aim of the retrospective analysis is to identify common characteristics that may lead to lessons learned for the forthcoming Fourth Industrial Revolution and thus complement the current debate on technological change. All previous industrial revolutions have led to change in business environments and new challenges for managers and owners. The findings show that all previous revolutions have led to increase in the number of service jobs created. The key approach of successful countries during the times of industrial revolution has included education as the source of new skills and knowledge necessary for adaption. Countries that were able to produce high skilled people could not only invent, but also adapt to new technologies sooner than others. Similarly, these approaches included introduction of new managerial practices in order to be able to utilize new technologies and new skilled workers effectively. The research article processes secondary data together with literature review on this topic.

Resumen
Death rates from asthma have increased or remained stable over the past decade despite increased knowledge about the pathophysiology and improved treatment of the disease, a fact that is both puzzling and disconcerting. Some children with asthma experience severe and life-interfering exacerbations separated by long periods of normal lung function and no symptoms. Asthma management plans are developed by primary care providers and the family. School nurses implement and monitor the child’s response to the plan. Therefore, the school nurse needs current information about asthma management. Part I of this two-part series describes the pathophysiology of asthma and the types, risk factors, and current trends in management of the disease. The role of the school nurse in asthma management is outlined, including how he or she can influence environmental factors that precipitate asthma symptoms or exacerbations. Part II will discuss the role of the school nurse in pharmacologic management of asthma. Complementary alternative medicine for asthma management will be described, as well as health teaching for the child with asthma and their family.

Resumen
As the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (CCD) enters its implementation phase, its technical advisory bodies are endeavoring to define their purpose. Parties to the Convention have questioned the effectiveness and even the relevance of CCD science advice, recommended reforms, and estab-lished a new Group of Experts to support existing advisory processes. These efforts, however, are unlikely to bring about effective change because they overlook the mutually constitutive relationship linking natural and social order (i.e., co-production) evidenced by a century of intergovernmental cooperation on dryland degradation. Historically, knowledge about desertification has been integral to the locus of desertification governance, the definition and application of cognitive resources, and the design of policy remedies. In the CCD former sites of co-production are now sites of incongruous knowledge and policy. A comparison of past and present desertification initiatives illuminates these incompatibilities and points to ideas for fostering greater coherence in the CCD's expert advisory and implementation activities.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of the paper is to describe how the understanding of the relationship between human resource management (HRM) and organizational effectiveness (OE) has evolved during the past three decades and to provide examples how firms are using HRM to improve their OE today by addressing several challenges that result from a broader stakeholder model. Design/methodology/approach – This paper reviews the past and current work on the relationship between HRM and OE. Findings – This findings indicate that the relationship between HRM and OE is very different when comparing the past with the current work on the relationship between HRM and OE. A major reason for this is the current work on OE uses the multiple stakeholder model that accounts for many more stakeholders than the past work. Practical implications – Human resource (HR) professionals have the opportunity to demonstrate many ways by which HRM can influence OE, and not just solely on the basis of firm profitability. Thus the use of the multiple stakeholder model today offers the HR professional and the HR profession many more opportunities to demonstrate their importance and impact. Originality/value – A systematic review and comparison of the past and current relationship between HRM and OE using the multiple stakeholder model have not been using both the viewpoints of both academics and practitioners.

Resumen
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma of the undifferentiated subtype is endemic to southern China, and patient prognosis has improved significantly over the past three decades because of advances in disease management, diagnostic imaging, radiotherapy technology, and broader application of systemic therapy. Despite the excellent local control with modern radiotherapy, distant failure remains a key challenge. Advances in molecular technology have helped to decipher the molecular pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma as well as its etiologic association with the Epstein-Barr virus. This in turn has led to the discovery of novel biomarkers and drug targets, rendering this cancer site a current focus for new drug development. This article reviews and appraises the key literature on the current management of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and future directions in clinical research.

Resumen
AbstractAs baleen whales recover from severe exploitation, they are probably subject to a wide variety of threats within the Antarctic marine ecosystem, including directed take. Here we review both the management and current status of Antarctic baleen whales and consider those threats likely to impact on them. Threats range from global problems - marine pollution and climate change - to localized issues including shipping, habitat disturbance, unregulated wildlife tourism and fishery activities. We identify the most pressing anthropogenic threats to baleen whales including scientific whaling and climate change. It is unclear whether current management approaches will be able to effectively encompass all these threats while also accounting both for the differing levels of scientific understanding and for the differing recovery rates of the whale species. For management we recommend the following: 1) incorporation of both ecosystem considerations and the suite of identified threats not limited to direct take, 2) identification of measurable indicators of changes in whales that allow more certainty in monitoring of populations and the environment, and 3) recognition of significant relationships between baleen whales and habitat features to provide information on distribution and use.

Resumen
The expected climate change and the associated possible increase of the frequency and magnitude of extreme storm surges may lead to larger storm surge hazards than have been observed in the past. Therefore, the German XtremRisK project aims to improve the understanding of the impact of extreme storm surges under current and future climate conditions by conducting an integrated flood risk analysis for two selected pilot sites in Germany which may be representative for an open coast (Sylt Island) and a megacity in an estuarine area (Hamburg). The research has also been focused on developing and improving the knowledge, methods and models for the assessment of intangible losses (social and environmental), their spatial modelling as well as their integration with direct and indirect economic losses. After a brief introduction into the integrated flood risk analysis being implemented, the paper describes the methodologies and discusses the results with a focus on the modelling of tangible and intangible losses in the pilot site Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.

Resumen
Among patients who present to medical providers with chronic pain complaints, there is an elevated prevalence of illicit substance use and prescription misuse. For those with legitimate pain, this predicament potentiates the risk of being medically underserved or undertreated. Complicating factors include a lack of specificity and sensitivity to the issue of defining substance abuse or misuse in the health care setting. Irrespective of whether patients have histories of addiction, problematic behavior manifests during the course of chronic pain therapy, making a conceptualization of the nature and function of this behavior difficult. The objective of this article is to highlight known confounds in the assessment of “normal” pain-related vs. substance abuse behavior. Our aim is to offer important points to consider, a set of systematic guidelines to follow, and an armamentarium of essential tools to facilitate contingency management planning in the context of treating chronic pain with controlled substances.

Resumen
This paper extends the Knowledge Management-discipline's understanding of knowledge. By including the concept of time, this extended conceptualization of knowledge could make knowledge management and decision making more responsive to the complexity found in organizational and social environments. The authors suggest that knowledge tends to be past-oriented in terms of its formative components, while emergent situations are future-oriented, which may or may not have roots in the past. In this article, the authors explore this past-present-future conundrum by explaining how reliance on the past may restrict an organization's ability to deal with emergent situations in the future. The role of wisdom will be introduced as a bridge connecting current past-oriented knowledge to unknown and unpredictable future-oriented events. The paper concludes that handling complex business decisions requires wisdom and that knowledge management and information systems must be designed and developed to support decisions by providing an integrative framework of analytics and insight.

Resumen
The Ogoki-North Nakina Forests consist of (10 638 km2) unroaded boreal forest approximately 400 km northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario (lat 50°- 51°31'N, long 86°30'- 89°W). Woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) inhabit discrete portions within these forests based on minimal current and past historical data. As part of the Forest Management Planning process, for the period 1997-2097, a woodland caribou habitat mosaic has been developed to coordinate present and future forest management activities with the retention and development of current and future woodland caribou habitat. Several criteria including, past fire history, forest structure, age, species composition, proximity to current road access and location of existing and potential caribou habitat, helped identify and delineate 50 mosaic harvest blocks. Each harvest block will be logged in one of five 20 year periods over a 100 year rotation (1997¬2097). The harvest blocks have been developed to simulate a pattern of past wildfire history in an area that has not been subjected to past forest management activities, while managing for woodland caribou, a locally featured species.

Resumen
The basic aim of this paper is to present the existing conditions and problems of water resources management in Greece. Water demand has increased tremendously over the past 30 years. Despite adequate precipitation, water imbalance is often experienced, due to temporal and regional variations of the precipitation, the increased water demand during the summer months and the difficulty of transporting water due to the mountainous terrain. Integration of reclaimed wastewater originating from the wastewater treatment plant effluents into the water resources management is proposed. This plan exhibits the potential for reducing the pollution loads entering sea or inland waters, while at the same time providing water for irrigation.

Resumen
PurposeFor the past 20 years, Latin American countries have gone from being a low-cost region to significant players in the world economy, with five of its countries ranked among the world’s 50th largest by gross domestic product. This paper aims to study the contribution of Latin American researchers in the field of supply chain management (SCM) to aid an understanding of the Latin American impact within global supply chains (SCs).Design/methodology/approachThe authors present a study which includes a bibliometric analysis of the papers authored by Latin American researchers in the SCM field and which were exclusively published in journals included in the Journal Citation Reports. In addition, the authors conducted a survey to Latin American researchers and consultants to gain greater understanding of the main difficulties, which in their opinion, have negatively affected the SCM area in Latin America within the past five years, and identify possible misalignment between Latin American research and the challenges for SC in the region.FindingsThe results show that Latin American research on SCM in the past nine years is not significant for the field considering the number of papers, citations and the papers published in top journals. Another interesting finding is the lack of collaboration among researchers from different Latin American countries, as well as with corporate. Finally, survey results reveal significant differences regarding the main difficulties each country perceived as relevant.Practical implicationsComparing results from both analyses, relevant misalignments stand out between published research and the main difficulties detected. These suggest a challenging opportunity for Latin America, emphasizing the need to increase research contribution of the scientific community, through collaboration and alignment toward overcoming the most troublesome difficulties for Latin America. Therefore, the authors suggest future regional research directions which could also help global companies to tackle the challenges faced and optimize performance of their Latin American SCs.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous research on the quality and impact of Latin American research in SCM has been conducted. Also, misalignments between researchers and practitioners in the region, which allow identifying weaknesses of Latin American SCs, have not been studied before.

Resumen
Abstract This paper is a research brief on sustainable supply chain management and covers some of the key elements of literature’s past debate and trends for future directions. It highlights the growth of this research area and reinforces the importance of a full consideration of all three key dimensions of sustainability when managing sustainable supply chains, i.e., the financial, environmental and social dimensions. Therefore, supply chain decision makers need to unequivocally assess the impact of their decisions on the financial, environmental and social performances of their supply chains. This paper also argues that risks and opportunities are the key drivers for supply chain decision makers to adopt sustainability within their operations, and that barriers to sustainability adoption exist. This research highlights that, depending on the focus adopted, supply chains can evolve and shift from more traditional to more sustainable approaches over time. The paper concludes with some promising avenues for future investigation.

Resumen
AbstractSubstance use disorder is the most frequent and clinically significant comorbidity among schizophrenia patients today. All schizophrenia patients should be assessed and monitored carefully regarding their substance use. Those with any regular use of alcohol or other drugs should be considered at risk for multiple adverse effects. As therapies for co-occurring substance use disorders have evolved over the past 20 years, medication management, psychosocial interventions, and rehabilitation models have increasingly emphasized the integration of mental health and substance abuse treatments, attention to group and residential interventions, matching interventions to stage of treatment, comprehensiveness, and long-term perspectives on recovery. Clinicians should understand the implications of each of these principles of care.

Resumen
AbstractHistorically, hysterectomy has been the recommended treatment for patients with adenomyosis. However, in the past two decades, various uterine-sparing treatment methods have emerged. These range from excisional techniques such as adenomyomectomy or wedge resection to uterine artery embolization, radiofrequency thermal ablation, hysteroscopic excision, endometrial ablation, and high-intensity focused ultrasound. While largely investigative for the treatment of adenomyosis, these procedures have demonstrated improvement in symptoms including abnormal uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, and overall quality of life. However, long-term data including fertility and obstetric outcomes are needed. Future research is needed to better understand the impact of these uterine-preserving techniques to expand our armamentarium for the treatment of adenomyosis.

Resumen
Abstract Although Citizen Relationship Management (CiRM) has been adopted worldwide to enhance the relationship between governments and citizens, little is known about the scientific field of CiRM. This article uses a literature review to analyze the scientific field of CiRM to understand its intellectual structure and set a research agenda. We analyzed 24 articles published from 2005 to 2020, revealing that CiRM is an emergent concept in scientific literature, context-dependent, and divided into three categories: the development of integrative models; the relationship between government and citizens; and the evaluation of public services. Research on CiRM is predominantly empirical, lacking the conceptual maturity that enables contributive theoretical and empirical developments. We propose a research agenda addressing the main gaps: adoption, implementation, and efficiency of CiRM strategies, as well as the integration of such strategies in different government levels. This is the first comprehensive review about CiRM, shedding light on the knowledge of CiRM, understanding its past, and the current panorama. We contribute to the development of CiRM knowledge, guiding the researchers’ efforts in the fields of relationship between governments and citizens; CiRM adoption and implementation processes; public managerial practice; and efficiency in public service provision.
