This preliminary study aimed to investigate an ActiGraft blood clot implant (RedDress Ltd., Pardes-Hanna, Israel) attempting to treat and induce the regeneration of a completely injured peripheral nerve with a massive loss defect. The tibial portion of the sciatic nerve in 11 rabbits was transected, and a 25 mm nerve gap was reconnected using a collagen tube. A comparison was performed between the treatment group (eight rabbits; reconnection using a tube filled with ActiGraft blood clot) and the control group (three rabbits; gap reconnection using an empty tube). The post-operative follow-up period lasted 18 weeks and included electrophysiological and histochemical assessments. The pathological severity score was high in the tube cross sections of the control group (1.33) compared to the ActiGraft blood clot treatment group (0.63). Morphometric analysis showed a higher percentage of the positive myelin basic protein (MBP) stained area in the ActiGraft blood clot group (19.57%) versus the control group (3.67%). These differences were not statistically significant due to the small group sizes and the large intra-group variability. The results of this preliminary study suggest that the application of an ActiGraft blood clot (into the collagen tube) can enable nerve recovery. However, a future study using a larger animal group is required to achieve objective statistical results.

Objetivo: Evaluar la eficacia de una matriz autóloga en el tratamiento de úlceras de pie diabético (UPD) de difícil cicatrización, y analizar la respuesta inmune a la aplicación de la matriz con un escáner de infrarrojo cercano (NIRS, por sus siglas en inglés) y un medidor de pH dérmico. Método: Tres pacientes fueron tratados con una matriz de coágulo de sangre completa (WBC, por sus siglas en inglés) autóloga. La matriz se realizó en el punto de atención, mezclando la sangre del paciente con una suspensión coloidal de gluconato de calcio/caolín, e inyectándola en una bandeja de coagulación. Se formó un gel de WBC y se aplicó a las heridas. El gel de WBC se mantuvo en su lugar con apósitos primarios y secundarios. Resultados: Hubo una reducción del tamaño de las UPD de 70% tras dos aplicaciones, 97,6% después de tres aplicaciones, y 90,9% tras cuatro aplicaciones. El NIRS midió un aumento en la saturación de oxígeno tisular. No hubo reacciones adversas. Conclusión: La matriz autóloga fue eficaz en el tratamiento de las UPD. La superficie de las UPD se redujo después de cada aplicación y se logró el cierre completo de las heridas. Se necesitan más ensayos clínicos para comprender mejor los beneficios de la matriz de WBC en UPD. Conflicto de interés: RedDress Ltd. AbstractThere are many reasons why it is important to increase the number of known pulsars. Not only do pulsar searches continue to improve statistical estimates of, for example, pulsar birthrates, lifetimes and the Galactic distribution, but they continue to turn up interesting and, in some cases, unique individual pulsars. In the early days of pulsar astronomy, the Molonglo radio telescope led the world as a pulsar detection instrument. However, the Parkes radio telescope, with its frequency versatility and greater tracking ablility, combined with sensitive receivers and powerful computer detection algorithms, is now the world’s most successful telescope at finding pulsars. The Parkes multibeam survey, begun in 1997, by itself will come close to doubling the number of known pulsars. Parkes has also been very successful at finding millisecond pulsars (MSPs), especially in globular clusters. One third of the known MSPs have been found in just one cluster, 47 Tucanae.

Parley is the voice that describes the action of discussing an issue and involves the primary intention of finding a solution. In other words, one parleys to reach agreements, to be on the same page. In this act, one party must concede to the other that their arguments are of interest for the debate, that they are pertinent, appropriate, necessary. Likewise, this is an act that is done informally, that does not have an official character, even when it comes from a representative authority. Thus, one parleys among equals. Over recent years, and almost everywhere, we have seen countless ideological, social, economic confrontations inspired by arguments that are backed by an apparent reason, the assumed common good. The idea of imposing our arguments over others, based on demonstrations of different nature, sometimes simply discretionary and even authoritarian, have led to that what used to be conceived as freedom of choice, often becomes freedom of decision, whereby useless, arrogant, haughty authoritarianism ends up being put into place, expressed from tight one-way windows which, in the end, come from partial views.

De hecho, junto al aspecto técnico de la creación de una milicia de ordenanza y sus diversos modos de combatir en el campo, sin embargo, se encuentran estrechamente vinculadas a los requisitos políticos de una república virtuosa las fundamentales exigencias éticas tanto en las cualidades morales de los ciudadanos-soldados como en la virtud de los comandantes y en la rectitud de los dirigentes políticos que los reclutan y emplean en las operaciones militares. Este artículo presenta una explicación del sentido común moderno a partir de una reconstrucción de lecturas críticas de Marx y Schumpeter. Se defiende que nuestro sentido común está estrechamente relacionado con la tecnología y que esta comporta fetichismo y funcionalidad. El artículo tiene cuatro partes. Primeramente, expongo las consideraciones generales que requiere una aproximación filosófica al sentido común y concreto la filosofía de la historia en la que baso mi análisis. Segundo, argumento que el sentido común moderno es indisociable de la moral y la política y ambas lo son de posibles conflictos de tipo radical en cuanto al ser humano y su historia. Tercero, comento por qué estos posibles conflictos tienen que ver con lo que Marx llama en El capital la maquinaria capitalista y desarrollo esta idea desde la teoría de los paradigmas tecnoeconómicos. Finalmente, sostengo que esta teoría neoschumpeteriana debe ser criticada desde la filosofía, así como adoptada para una teoría y práctica críticas del sentido común moderno, el cual tiene en las gestiones de la COVID-19 un punto culminante.

Este artículo intenta identificar los acuerdos y desacuerdos entre Benjamin Constant y Alexis de Tocqueville en torno a la pregunta de cómo fundar un orden político respetuoso de las libertades y que, al mismo tiempo, asuma y proyecte la ruptura revolucionaria. En otras palabras, cómo articular orden, libertad y política. nuestra tesis es que la diferencia en el modo de aproximarse a la cuestión encuentra su origen en diversas concepciones de la historia. Para los efectos de evaluar los procesos históricos, Constant nunca abandona del todo ciertas intuiciones progresistas. Tocqueville, por su parte, se mantiene siempre a distancia de las distintas versiones de la filosofía de la historia. Para ilustrar el argumento, nuestro trabajo se divide en cuatro partes. En la primera, exponemos la relación entre ambos autores y su concepción del movimiento histórico. Luego, examinamos cómo entiende cada uno de ellos el concepto de perfectibilidad, siempre a la luz de la primera diferencia. En la tercera parte, exploramos la noción de anacronismo empleada por Constant, y las críticas —más o menos implícitas— de Tocqueville a esa idea. Por último, analizaremos las distintas concepciones de política que se deducen de cada uno de los sistemas.

Mechanisms underlying pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome (PARDS) are poorly understood. The recent implication of circulating nucleosomes as pathogenic in sepsis and trauma-associated ARDS in adults led us to investigate the significance of nucleosomes in PARDS. We conducted a prospective, observational study on children with PARDS at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia between July 2014 and September 2015. Plasma was collected within 48 h of PARDS onset and nucleosomes quantified by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Samples from 76 children with PARDS (11 deaths, 14%) were collected early [median 15 (IQR 7, 21) h] after PARDS onset. Nucleosome levels were higher in nonsurvivors [0.59 AU (IQR 0.46, 0.84)] relative to survivors [0.21 AU (IQR 0.08, 0.33), rank sum P < 0.001]. Nucleosome levels were not associated with either Berlin ( P = 0.845) or PALICC ( P = 0.886) oxygenation categories, nor with etiology of PARDS ( P = 0.527). Nucleosomes were correlated with increasing numbers of nonpulmonary organ failures ( P = 0.009 for trend), and were higher in patients whose PaO2/FiO2 worsened ( P = 0.012) over the first 72 h of PARDS. In regression analysis, nucleosome levels were independently associated with mortality after adjusting for either age, severity of illness score, number of nonpulmonary organ failures, vasopressor score, or PaO2/FiO2 (all P < 0.05). In conclusion, plasma nucleosome levels in early PARDS were associated with increased mortality, correlated with number of nonpulmonary organ failures, and preceded worsening oxygenation. The potential utility of this biomarker for prognostication, risk stratification, and mechanistic insight should be investigated further.

Projects based on innovative building systems have become increasingly urgent when itcomes to designing sustainable buildings. The relevance of this demand has led to studies that overcome the paradigm of civil construction, which insists on the use of non-renewable materials such as cement and steel. In this context, the construction method called rammed earth has been introduced as an important alternative, adopting soil as the main component in its constitution, which impacts on the cost-benefit ratio, since it allows a direct reduction in energy consumption and improves the thermal andacoustic comfort. In this context, this research sought to physically and mechanically evaluate 3 (three) soils extracted from municipalities located in the western region of Santa Catarina, in order to perform, experimentally and on a real scale, self-supporting walls in rammed earth, this being a highly innovative construction method that has gained visibility in Brazil through projects based on sustainable buildings.

The optical identification of strong radio sources was a key step in establishing a grid of southern hemisphere calibrators, both for Parkes and for Molonglo. However, the measurement of precise positions for these optical counterparts presented some special astrometric problems and led to some novel solutions. This paper summarises the progress of optical position measurement from a radio astronomer's viewpoint and examines the role of the COSMOS database against this background. The source 0007-44, from the first Parkes catalogue, is used as a case study to illustrate the present-day approach to optical identifications.

La nueva especie difiere de Nephrolepis rivularis (Vahl) Mett. ex Krug por su hábitat terrestre, frondas más pequeñas, pinnas más pequeñas and estas perpendicular al raquis, pinnas marginalmente lobuladas a bilobuladas distalmente, escamas del raquis pardo pálido con el punto de inserción pardo oscuro, escamas de la lámina 0.2–0.4 mm en diámetro, algunas veces reducidas a puntos resinosos, soros submarginales, muchas veces en los lóbulos internos de cada segmento, indusios cordiformes and basalmente adheridos, estos pardo pálidos con el punto de inserción pardo oscuro. El primer híbrido es intermedio entre Cyathea alfonsiana L.D. Gómez y C. notabilis Domin, en tamaño del tronco, tamaño y forma de las escamas del rizoma y base del estípite, tamaño de las frondas, pares de venas por segmento and grado de división de estas and y tamaño de los parafisos, pero tiene frondas más grandes que ambos progenitores, por esta razón el nombre del epíteto. Elaphoglossum x intermedium es un híbrido entre E. alvaradoanum Rojas y E. crinitum (L.) Christ, el cual es caracterizado por escamas del estípite y lámina pardos, lámina con base cuneada and ápice obtuso, y venas parcial e irregularmente anastomosadas. Tectaria x epilithica tiene caracteres intermedios entre T. incisa Cav. y T. mexicana (Fée) C.V. Morton, y es fácil de reconocer porque tiene lámina 1-pinnado-pinnatífida y tamaño intermedio entre las escamas del rizoma.

Uma das categorias profissionais mais atingidas pela pandemia da COVID-19 foi a das trabalhadoras domésticas, em especial as informais. Dessa forma, esse artigo tem por objetivo analisar características sociodemográficas, de trabalho e sintomas relacionados a COVID-19 de trabalhadoras domésticas. A base de dados utilizada foi a Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD COVID-19) de 2020. Os principais resultados indicam que as trabalhadoras domésticas têm idade entre 40 e 59 anos, são majoritariamente informais, pretas ou pardas, com baixa escolaridade e remuneração e não estão afastadas do trabalho durante a pandemia. Um baixo percentual sentiu sintomas de COVID-19. Dentre as que manifestaram sintomas, boa parte se automedicou ou procurou por um Posto de Saúde com equipe de Estratégia de Saúde da Família ou uma Unidade Básica de Saúde.

En este artículo se analizan las implicaciones que puede tener la STJUE de 20 de octubre de 2022, C-604/20, asunto Roi Land. Son tres los asuntos que el Tribunal resuelve en la sentencia. En primer lugar, establece los indicios y los elementos relevantes a la hora de considerar si una relación jurídica en la que no hay un contrato de trabajo formal entre las partes es o no es laboral. En segundo lugar, resuelve la cuestión relativa al ámbito de aplicación del Reglamento 1215/2012 cuando la parte demandada es o puede ser empleadora y no se encuentra domiciliada en algún país de la Unión Europea. En el artículo se explica cuándo es aplicable la legislación nacional y bajo qué supuestos dicha legislación es desplazada por los preceptos del Reglamento. Finalmente, la sentencia aborda, en relación con el foro de contratos de consumo, el requisito de «uso ajeno a la actividad profesional».

O objetivo desse artigo é analisar a cultura estudantil dos sujeitos que habitam uma escola de Música de uma universidade pública do Rio de Janeiro, a fim de compreendermos o sistema de valoração desses nativos, seu ethos e estilo de vida. Teoria, práxis, performance e erro são categorias que serão analisadas, tendo surgido a partir de observação participante, sendo sugeridas pelas sucessivas imersões no campo, vivências e diálogos dos sujeitos de pesquisa. A pesquisa de campo teve duração de quase dois anos. A escuta ativa musical é condição sine qua non para conviver com os pares, implicando teoria e técnica para seu exercício. Tal escuta é requerida dos músicos mesmo antes do ingresso na universidade, a partir de testes de solfejo, ditado e harmonia musical conjugados com o exame de acesso a instituição de ensino, ajudando a explicar o porquê dessa ocupação se situar num espaço limítrofe, de imbricada interseção entre os conceitos de ofício e profissão.

Abstract In the context of ongoing debates concerning the reform of the investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism, this article critiques the widely-accepted approach that seeks to fit international human rights law (IHRL) into the existing structure of ISDS and argues that IHRL should at least be treated as ‘primus inter pares’ vis-à-vis international investment law. Testing ISDS on the touchstone of the human rights to equality, non-discrimination, and an effective remedy, the authors demonstrate that ISDS is incompatible with IHRL. Considering various structural and systemic problems, abolishing ISDS is perhaps the only normatively sound solution to address this incompatibility with IHRL. However, as this may not be politically feasible in the near future, this article articulates eight principles for a human-rights compatible international dispute settlement mechanism. We argue that these principles should inform the current efforts to reform the ISDS mechanism to avoid the risk of making only cosmetic changes.

O texto trata da passagem final do livro “Empresário Industrial e Desenvolvimento Econômico”, de Fernando Henrique Cardoso. É apresentada uma contextualização desse trecho em relação às demais partes do livro, à pesquisa temática mais ampla em que sua publicação se inseria e à trajetória intelectual de FHC por meio de um breve levantamento da fortuna crítica disponível sobre sua obra. Como principais conclusões, são indicadas a atualidade e pertinência dessa passagem para pensar as relações entre as classes sociais, suas escolhas políticas e os dilemas postos ao desenvolvimento econômico no Brasil. Por fim, sugere-se o reconhecimento do status dessa passagem como um clássico do pensamento social brasileiro.AbstractThe text deals with the final passage of the book “Industrial Entrpreneur and Economic Development”, by Fernando Henrique Cardoso. A contextualization of this passage is presented in relation to the other parts of the book, the broader thematic research in which its publication was inserted and to FHC´s intellectual trajectory through a brief survey of the critical resources available about his work. As main conclusions, the text point to the relevance of this passage for the reflection about the relations between social classes, their political choices and the dilemmas posed by the economic development in Brazil. Finally, it is suggested the recognition of this passage as a classic of Brazilian social thought.

The study presents the status and diversity of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I genes in the Far Eastern leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis). 20 alleles of MHC genes were obtained from 11 samples in total, 19 alleles were described for the first time for the species. A high diversity of alleles is shown at the level of individuals as well as at the population level. Comparison of MHC gene polymorphism in leopard subspecies showed that the genetic diversity of the Far Eastern leopard is not lower and even possibly higher, than observed of the African and Indian subspecies. The high allelic diversity of the Far Eastern leopard genes is supported by the positive selection affecting on the antigen-binding region of the protein product they encrypt. It is concluded that the low abundance of the Far Eastern leopard has not yet led to irreparable losses in the genetic potential of the population.

The period of "perestroika" (1985-1991) had an impact on all spheres of human life. Reformatory transformations affected all regions of the USSR. One of the directions of political modernization in this period is the change in the form of the territorial structure of the state. In the late 1980s, the problem of federalism aggravated, which led to a process that went down in history as a “parade of sovereignties” — a conflict between republican and union legislation associated with declaring the priority of republican laws over union laws. This process affected Central Siberia, in particular the territory of the Khakass Autonomous Region, which has been part of the Krasnoyarsk Territory since 1934. The transformation of the administrative-territorial status of the KhAO can be divided into four stages: the end of 1987 — January 1988, June — July 1988, February — December 1989, 1990 — January 1992.

E embora a priori a mobilidade desses grupos sociais esteja associada às suas práticas econômicas, consideramos aqui que a mobilidade é constitutiva de suas vivências cotidianas e, consequentemente, afeta o modo de experimentação do espaço urbano. We are interested in investigating the idea that the mobility practices of certain subjects do not only respond to an already established position of economic and social inequality. Rather, we consider that historical positions in unequal power relations are combined with strategies, cunning and modes of action of subordinate actors. And although a priori the mobility of these social groups is associated with their economic practices, we consider here that mobility is constitutive of their daily life experiences, and consequently affects the way of experimentation of urban space. Along these lines, we ask ourselves how social groups that share common experiences are built and maintained in which mobilities are central. Certain social groups experience some parts of the city not from their residence, but from the transit through them. Through the cases of informal collectors in the city of Buenos Aires and workers linked to the construction and maintenance of new real estate projects in the periphery of the city of Salta, we are interested in investigating the particularities of their daily mobility, the Imaginaries that this generates regarding other social subjects and their role in the experience that these actors have of the city.

Type II toxin-antitoxin (TA) systems are highly prevalent in bacterial genomes and have been extensively studied. These modules involve in the formation of persistence cells, the biofilm formation, and stress resistance, which might play key roles in pathogen virulence. SezAT and yefM-yoeB TA modules in Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (S. suis 2) have been studied, although the other TA systems have not been identified. In this study, we investigated nine putative type II TA systems in the genome of S. suis 2 strain SC84 by bioinformatics analysis and identified three of them (two relBE loci and one parDE locus) that function as typical type II TA systems. Interestingly, we found that the introduction of the two RelBE TA systems into Escherichia coli or the induction of the ParE toxin led to cell filamentation. Promoter activity assays indicated that RelB1, RelB2, ParD, and ParDE negatively autoregulated the transcriptions of their respective TA operons, while RelBE2 positively autoregulated its TA operon transcription. Collectively, we identified three TA systems in S. suis 2, and our findings have laid an important foundation for further functional studies on these TA systems.

AbstractA child undergoing routine transcatheter patent arterial duct closure developed severe transient ischemic changes in the electrocardiogram (Pardee waves) while the aortic retention skirt of the Amplatzer™ Duct Occluder was pulled against the duct orifice. The occluder was then released, and the delivery system was pulled back to inferior caval vein which led to electrocardiogram normalisation. Aortic root angiography showed a single coronary artery originating from the right sinus of Valsalva with the left coronary stem wedged behind the posterior aspect of the right ventricular outflow tract. We believe that the left coronary artery was compressed while applying tension on the occluder delivery system.

For the first time in the national historiography of the Great Patriotic War, the article examines the process of preparing a speech by Marshal K.E. Voroshilov at the parade held on November 7, 1941 in the temporary military capital of the Soviet state, Kuibyshev. The article is based on declassified draft versions of the speech, which are in the fund of K.E. Voroshilov of the Council of People's Commissars of the State Archive of the Russian Federation. These documents are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time. The analysis of the draft versions of the speech led the authors to the conclusion that Voroshilov prepared the speech on his own and worked carefully on the content, constantly improving it. Writing a speech has gone from a plan to several options, first handwritten and then typed. Voroshilov constantly worked on improving the text of the speech, as evidenced by inserts into the same version, made both in ink and in pencil. When working on a speech, Voroshilov had to take into account two points that imposed special responsibility on his speech. If it was impossible to broadcast the parade from Moscow, it was supposed to broadcast the parade from Kuibyshev. Secondly, the military attaches of the diplomatic missions located in Kuibyshev were present at the parade. In this regard, special attention is paid in the article to the analysis of the search for definitions of the allied countries of the USSR in the war. At the same time, a comparison of the speech delivered at the parade and printed in the newspapers of the country, and the last version of the speech, located in Voroshilov's papers, showed a rather significant difference. Based on this, the authors made a hypothetical conclusion that the speech was corrected and expanded for publication. This indicates that Voroshilov's speech did not fully satisfy the leaders of the state and was corrected.

Para la construcción del sistema completo se utilizaron otros componentes como una pantalla LCD y un potenciómetro. En un principio el sistema está formado de dos partes: el sistema contador y la estructura física que contendrá las frutas. La estructura física diseñada con materiales de PVC y metal, será utilizada para el paso de las frutas por medio de una rampa en donde se hará la lectura mediante el sistema contador. El sistema contador que estará formado por la placa Arduino y el sensor de luz, será el encargado de hacer la lectura de la cantidad de frutas que pasen a través de la rampa. Para tener una visualización de la cantidad de frutas que se va contabilizando, el sistema cuenta con una pantalla LCD, cuyo contraste estará regulado por un potenciómetro para una mejor visualización.

Are individuals more likely to serve as a vehicle for social contagion because they are perceived as experts or because they talk a lot? This study parses the contribution of expertise and narratorship by asking groups of three or four individuals to study variants of a curriculum vitae (CV) and then to recall the CV individually, as a group, and once again individually, with a recognition test following the final recall. The group was falsely led to believe that one member had expertise. Narratorship was also determined. Expertise and Narratorship contributed independently to critical false recollections, with Narratorship contributing more than Expertise. The way a conversation unfolds and the emergence of a narrator can reshape memories.

In this article, Yizhou Huang considers the transnational transmission of devised theater, focusing on the Shanghai-based performance group Grass Stage (Caotaiban) led by Zhao Chuan. She discusses the group’s devising process from two symbiotic aspects, the corporeal and the political. Attending to Grass Stage’s eclectic inspirations and international collaborations, Huang compares the collective to world renowned ensembles such as Théâtre du Soleil and parses out the unequal transactions between Asian performance traditions and devised theater techniques. She warns against a neo-Orientalism that positions non-Western artists and their works solely into an epistemological framework that applauds liberal democracy and argues for devised theater as a site of minor interventions, world making, as well as radical hope.

O objetivo do estudo foi verificar a alteração dos atributos de qualidade da carne bovina armazenadas em embalagens com baixa permeabilidade ao oxigênio (BP) e alta permeabilidade ao oxigênio (AP) mantidas em freezer com dois tipos de lâmpadas, Led e Fluorescente (Fluo). Quinze amostras do músculo Longissimus lumborum foram divididas em quatro partes e embaladas a vácuo em embalagem BP ou AP e acondicionadas sob dois tipos de iluminação (Led e Fluo), por 60 dias, à temperatura de -18ºC. Foram avaliados: cor da carne, pH, oxidação lipídica, bactérias mesófilas, psicotróficas e enterobactérias. As análises foram realizadas na desossa e após a exposição aos tratamentos (BP-Led, BP-Fluo, AP-Led e AP-Fluo). Todos os tratamentos apresentaram maior contagem de bactérias mesófilas aeróbias e psicrotróficas, que a carne no momento da desossa. O pH foi menor na carne desossada em relação aos demais tratamentos, para H* maiores valores foram encontrados nas embalagens AP. A oxidação lipídica foi semelhante entre a carne da desossa e o tratamento BP-Led, os demais tratamentos apresentaram maior oxidação lipídica, que a carne no momento da desossa. Maiores valores de psicrotróficos foram encontrados para embalagens AP e luz fluorescente. O tratamento BP-Led demostrou menor valor de oxidação lipídica que, BP-Fluo, AP-Led, AP-Fluo. Conclui-se que a descoloração da carne é menor nas embalagens com baixa permeabilidade ao oxigênio independente o tipo de luz utilizada durante o armazenamento. A associação entre a embalagem BP e a luz Led mostram melhores resultados microbiológicos e menor oxidação lipídica, proporcionando melhor qualidade da carne após o armazenamento.

Is it possible for authoritarian states such as China, Russia, and Iran to combine the soft power narratives directed primarily towards an international audience with the narratives directed primarily towards a domestic audience that are aimed at maintaining regime security? To investigate this question, this article analyses the 2015 military parade in Beijing, using this case to highlight and discuss the constraints on Chinese leaders’ efforts to project soft power. The key finding is that soft power will continue to be the weak link in China's pursuit of a great power position and status as long as what continues to count as “Chinese” is defined in opposition to hostile “others” and the humiliation narrative continues to function as the central identity marker in the party-led construction of national identity (the “us”).

O artigo tem por objetivo analisar duas importantes variáveis nos estudos sobre mercado de trabalho: a divisão sexual e o trabalho em domicílio. De acordo com Navarro (2006), especificamente na indústria calçadista no Brasil, empresas de grande, médio, pequeno e micro porte convivem na produção desse segmento, associadas a uma variada gama de unidades produtivas especializadas na confecção de determinadas partes do calçado, denominadas “bancas ou ateliês”. Segundo Piccinini (1992), geralmente os integrantes dessas “bancas ou ateliês” realizam suas tarefas em domicílio, sendo essas unidades produtivas constituídas principalmente por: mulheres, crianças e, eventualmente, homens que já trabalharam na indústria calçadista. Para a pesquisa, foram selecionados três municípios que possuem como uma de suas principais atividades econômicas a indústria calçadista: Sapiranga – Rio Grande do Sul –, Nova Serrana – Minas Gerais – e Camocim – no Ceará. A base de dados utilizada foram os Censos dos anos 2000 e 2010 e os principais resultados encontrados dão conta que houve uma entrada em larga escala das mulheres na indústria calçadista. Sobretudo na informalidade e em relação ao trabalho em domicílio, percebeu-se maior participação feminina. AbstractThe article aims to analyze two important variables in studies on the labor market: the sexual division and work at home. Specifically in the footwear industry, according to Navarro (2006), in Brazil, large, medium, small and micro companies coexist in the production of this segment, associated with a varied range of production units specialized in making certain parts of the footwear, called “stalls or ateliers”. According to Piccinini (1992), the members of these “stalls or ateliers” generally perform their tasks at home, with these production units being mainly composed of: women, children and eventually men who have already worked in the footwear industry. For the research, three municipalities were selected whose footwear industry is one of their main economic activities, Sapiranga in Rio Grande do Sul, Nova Serrana in Minas Gerais and Camocim in Ceará. The database used was the Census of the years 2000 and 2010 and the main results found show that there was a large-scale entry of women into the footwear industry, especially in informality and in relation to work at home, greater female participation was noticed.

Abstract The goal of this article is to study the process of formalization of the res publica from the second to the first century bc. The first part analyzes the uncertainty of the res, defining it as the result of the interaction between citizens. The second part studies a shift in the description of the res publica: the passage from a division into partes to an approach in terms of formae. This evolution, which led to a reduction of its elements and a rationalization of its working, also reveals a will to put an end to conflicts. The mixed constitution and the ideological need for consensus became the new model for part of the elite. This process of reduction of the res publica ended with the Augustan invention of the SPQR.

Abstract We present the discovery and timing results of four pulsars discovered in a pilot survey at intermediate Galactic latitudes with the Five-hundred Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST). Among these pulsars, two belong to the category of millisecond pulsars (MSPs) with spin periods of less than 20 ms. The other two fall under the classification of “mildly recycled” pulsars, with massive white dwarfs as companions. Remarkably, this small survey, covering an area of 4.7 deg2, led to the discovery of four recycled pulsars. Such success underscores the immense potential of future surveys at intermediate Galactic latitudes. In order to assess the potential yield of MSPs, we conducted population simulations and found that both FAST and Parkes new phased array feed surveys, focusing on intermediate Galactic latitudes, have the capacity to uncover several hundred new MSPs.

Over the last few decades, most personality psychology research has been focused on assessing personality via scores on a few broad traits and investigating how these scores predict various behaviours and outcomes. This approach does not seek to explain the causal mechanisms underlying human personality and thus falls short of explaining the proximal sources of traits as well as the variation of individuals’ behaviour over time and across situations. On the basis of the commonalities shared by influential process–oriented personality theories and models, we describe a general dynamics of personality approach (DPA). The DPA relies heavily on theoretical principles applicable to complex adaptive systems that self–regulate via feedback mechanisms, and it parses the sources of personality in terms of various psychological functions relevant in different phases of self–regulation. Thus, we consider personality to be rooted in individual differences in various cognitive, emotional–motivational, and volitional functions, as well as their causal interactions. In this article, we lay out 20 tenets for the DPA that may serve as a guideline for integrative research in personality science. © 2020 The Authors. AbstractAlthough the extragalactic nature of 3C 48 and other quasi stellar radio sources was discussed as early as 1960 by John Bolton and others, it was rejected largely because of preconceived ideas about what appeared to be unrealistically high radio and optical luminosities. Not until the 1962 occultations of the strong radio source 3C 273 at Parkes, which led Maarten Schmidt to identify 3C 273 with an apparent stellar object at a redshift of 0.16, was the true nature understood. Successive radio and optical measurements quickly led to the identification of other quasars with increasingly large redshifts and the general, although for some decades not universal, acceptance of quasars as the very luminous nuclei of galaxies.Curiously, 3C 273, which is one of the strongest extragalactic sources in the sky, was first cataloged in 1959 and the magnitude 13 optical counterpart was observed at least as early as 1887. Since 1960, much fainter optical counterparts were being routinely identified using accurate radio interferometer positions which were measured primarily at the Caltech Owens Valley Radio Observatory. However, 3C 273 eluded identification until the series of lunar occultation observations led by Cyril Hazard. Although an accurate radio position had been obtained earlier with the OVRO interferometer, inexplicably 3C 273 was initially misidentified with a faint galaxy located about an arc minute away from the true quasar position.

I was fortunate enough to have been involved with unravelling the secrets of PSR B1259-63 right from the start. The major part of my PhD thesis was a large survey of the southern galactic plane at an observing wavelength of 20 cm. Confirmation of a further batch of good-looking pulsar candidates from the data processing took place in November 1989 at the Parkes radio telescope in central New South Wales, Australia. My fellow student Jeremy Lim and I were in the control room when the 47.7 ms periodicity of PSR, B1259–63 was confirmed. At first, the slight increase in period from the original detection led us to believe we had discovered a ‘Crab-like’ pulsar. However by the end of the following year we realised we had something much more exciting on our hands.

Christian Dior’s 1947 ‘New Look’ collection has been widely examined for its influence on both haute couture and clothing styles in the 1950s. In the Australian context, Margaret Maynard examined how the New Look was marketed through the ideological positioning of women’s roles in the domestic sphere. This marketing campaign was spearheaded by two business syndicates who brought a series of French Fashion Parades to Australia in the late 1940s through the 1950s. Despite the hype around the parades, just how much the fashions were adopted by the wider public has not been measured. Australians did not adopt the New Look unchanged, instead local sensibilities, climate and culture meant modification was inevitable.Through examining home-sewing patterns, photographs of key cultural events and images from popular magazines from the period, this article establishes how the New Look was modified in the Australia. Results show that despite the many women who were eager to embrace the new fashion, many more were reticent, clinging in particular to the shorter hemlines they had adopted during the war years. This led to a hybrid style that both followed the French lead and suited Australian society. French designers, keen to expand their business empires through licensing, responded to these adaptions, incorporating elements into their later collections. This represented a step away from the trickle-down model. This changing dynamic gave Australian customers the confidence to demand more from the fashion designers and to adapt fashion to suit the Australian context. By examining the impact of Dior’s New Look through the lens of ordinary Australian women, the influences of both the designer and his customers on the evolution of post-Second War World are exposed.

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar el proceso de recuperación de información (RI) mediante la aplicación de Linked Open Data (LOD). La metodología empleada en este trabajo consta de dos partes: en la primera, se llevó a cabo una revisión de literatura, se apoya en la hermenéutica y análisis del discurso para examinar recursos de información que abordaran modelos, estructuras, estudios de caso, pruebas de concepto y análisis estructurales de la implementación de datos abiertos enlazados en el proceso de RI. Sucesivamente, partiendo del método analítico-sintético, se seleccionó una fuente de datos cuya licencia abierta admitiera reutilizar y procesar los datos para exponerlos al contexto de recuperación de información, mediante su estructuración en RDF y su respectiva consulta con SPARQL. Los resultados obtenidos permiten acercarse a los principios metodológicos del procesamiento de datos abiertos enlazados y analizar la información adquirida, siendo estos de carácter integrador e intuitivos derivados del uso de representaciones gráficas para hacer posible la consulta y acceso a los datos. La adaptación de LOD en los sistemas para la RI, supone un cambio de paradigma relacionado con la clase de tecnología empleada en sus estructuras. Por ejemplo, transitar de un modelo conceptual sintáctico a otro de tipo semántico.

Con el propósito de evaluar el comportamiento productivo de pollos reproductores (Arbor Acres) en las etapas de iniciación (0-28 d) y finalización (29-56 d). En la primera etapa se utilizaron 240 pollos divididos en 4 tratamientos y 4 repeticiones de 15 pollos cada una, y en la etapa de finalización, en cada tratamiento se utilizaron 3 repeticiones de 17 pollos cada una. Estos animales se utilizaron para evaluar su comportamiento productivo al ser alimentados en dos etapas (iniciación y finalización) mediante 4 dietas: lisina y metionina total (LMT) y digestible (LMD), sin enzima (SE) y con enzima (CE) (complejo enzimático VegproO de All-tech, Lexington, Kentucky). Los datos se analizaron por medio de un diseño completamente al azar con arreglo facto rial 2x2 (AA’s, Enzimas) con 4 y 3 repeticiones para la etapa de iniciación y finalización, respectivamente. El consumo de alimento no mostró diferencia estadística significativa (P>0.05), pero sí en la etapa de finalización (P<0.05), en la cual se observó un incremento al formular por aminoácidos totales. En el resto de las variables estudiadas: ganancia diaria de peso, eficiencia alimenticia, rendimiento en canal, relación de eficiencia proteica, calidad de la canal y sus partes, se observaron diferencias significativas (P<0.05) para las dos etapas, Aa’s y enzimas, no así (P>0.05) para la interacción. Lo anterior indica que al formular la dieta por lisina y metionina digestible y adicionar el complejo enzimático Vegpro, se incrementa la GDP y se mejora la CA, y se obtienen mayores valores de REP, con lo cual se beneficia tanto el RC como la CC, ya que se deposita mayor cantidad de proteína y se disminuye el depósito de grasa en la canal y sus partes.

AbstractOver 600 pulsars are now known, almost all of which lie in our Galaxy. Most pulsars have periods between 0 · 1 and a few seconds, but a very important sub-class, the ‘millisecond’ pulsars, have much shorter periods. Millisecond pulsars are often in a binary orbit with another star, suggesting that their short periods are a result of accreting mass from the companion star. They are also extraordinarily good clocks, with a stability comparable to that of the best atomic clocks. This combination of extreme period stability and binary motion has led to some very important results, including the first observational evidence for gravitational radiation and the first evidence for extra-solar planetary systems. It is probable that pulsars will be used to define the long-term standard of terrestrial time. A search of the southern sky using the Parkes radio telescope has found several millisecond pulsars which will make an important contribution to these precision-timing programs.

A presença de metais pesados em biossólidos é motivo de preocupação quando do uso agrícola desse resíduo em função da possibilidade de absorção desses metais pelas plantas crescendo nesse solo. A fitodisponibilidade de metais pesados, em solos repetidamente tratados com biossólido, foi avaliada num experimento em vasos de 0,5 m³, contendo LATOSSOLO AMARELO Distrófico (LAd) e LATOSSOLO VERMELHO Distrófico (LVd). O experimento foi montado no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com quatro tratamentos (LAd+lodo, LAd, LVd+lodo e LVd) e quatro repetições utilizando milho como planta teste. Incorporou-se biossólido, proveniente da Estação de Tratamento de Esgotos ETE-SABESP-Barueri, São Paulo, na camada 0-0,2 m dos solos durante um período de até doze meses antes do plantio, numa quantidade total correspondente a 388 Mg ha-1, base seca. Antes da semeadura, os tratamentos testemunhas receberam calcário e adubação NPK, porém houve necessidade de adubação NPK nos tratamentos com biossólido, durante o desenvolvimento das plantas. As análises do tecido vegetal foram feitas por digestão nitro-perclórica, seguindo-se a quantificação dos metais por absorção atômica, nas seguintes partes da plantas: pendão, folha diagnose, folhas ao final do ciclo, colmo, bainha, grãos, sabugo e palha. As sucessivas aplicações do biossólido, em doses correspondentes a 78 Mg ha-1, não proporcionaram aumento de produtividade. Foi observado aumento dos teores de Cu e Zn nas plantas, evidenciando a disponibilidade desses metais adicionados via biossólido. Não foi observada disponibilidade de Cd, Cr, Mn, Ni e Pb para as plantas de milho.

O presente estudo foi desenvolvido a partir do método cienciométrico na mensuração do quantitativo da produção científica nos temas bieconomia e sustentabilidade na Amazônia. Para a coleta dos dados bibliométricos, foram parametrizadas as palavras chaves na língua inglesa “Bioeconomy” or “Socioecological” or “Socioeconomic” or “Sustainability” or “Amazon” junto a base de dados Web Of Science no período inicial sem data definida até o ano de 2022, para o tratamento dos dados utilizou-se os softwares VOSviewer e Microsoft Excel. Para a classificação dos tópicos relativos as publicações foram selecionadas os dados relativos ao idioma, formatos, periódicos, autores, países e universidades. Os resultados evidenciaram um quantitativo de 6.947 publicações no período de 1979 a 2022, sendo que 99,47% na língua inglesa e 80,12% no formato de artigo. O periódico com maior volume foi o Elsevier Sci Ltd, com 1.098 publicações, assim como a rede de autores ampla, composta por pesquisadores de várias partes do mundo. Os países na América Latina que mais publicaram foram o Brasil, Colômbia, Peru e Bolívia. Conclui-se que o elevado volume de produção científica em nível global publicado pela comunidade científica, não seja capaz de forma isolada produzir os resultados esperados em áreas como a bioeconomia na Amazônia, sendo necessário as interconexões entre os principais atores como governos, empresas, centros de pesquisas, pesquisadores e sociedade na construção de caminhos possíveis a efetivação do desenvolvimento sustentável que beneficie a todos.

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the impact of decentralization on the recruiting standards for the position of municipal health secretary, aiming to understand the extent to which local power has been democratized, as a consequence of the Unified Health System (SUS) implementation. Municipal health secretaries all over the country answered a questionnaire at two different times in the decentralization process - 1996 and 2006 - achieving representative results. The goal was to collect data about their socioeconomic, professional profile, political trajectory and public life. Results show that there are more women, brown (‘pardos’) and low-income people holding the position, and that the qualification of municipal health secretary improved in the period between the two surveys. However, this does not apply to the larger cities and more developed regions, where competition for this position has led to a recruiting standard that combines high levels of professionalism with restricted access for disadvantaged groups. We also found that municipal health secretary are now more politically engaged in manager’s associations than in their previous insertion in civil society networks.

AbstractBoth white and Chinese American suffragists in the United States closely watched and discussed the events of the Chinese Revolution of 1911 and the establishment of the Chinese Republic (1912–1949). They were aware of the republican revolutionaries’ support for women's rights, which conflicted with American stereotypes of China as a backward nation, especially in its treatment of women. Chinese suffragists, real and imagined, became a major talking point in debates over women's voting rights in the United States as white suffragists and national newspapers championed their stories. This led to prominent visual depictions of Chinese suffragists in the press, but also their participation in public events such as suffrage parades. For a brief time, the transnational nature of suffrage conversations was highly visible as was the suffrage activism of women in U.S. Chinese communities. However, because Chinese immigrants were barred from citizenship by U.S. immigration law, white activists tended to depict Chinese suffragists as foreign, resulting in the erasure of their memory in the U.S. suffrage movement.

Dentro del área de la anatomía humana, el estudio de los pares craneales y su relación con la base del cráneo se ha convertido en uno de los mayores retos para los estudiantes de la Facultad de Salud debido a su amplitud y complejidad. Los modelos anatómicos que se encuentran son generales y no permiten comprender las relaciones de las diferentes estructuras. El objetivo de este trabajo fue crear una herramienta pedagógica que permitiera observar la ubicación y recorrido del VII par craneal junto con sus impulsos nerviosos.
Este trabajo se enmarca en la tesis doctoral titulada “Enseñanza, aprendizaje y evaluación de la Anatomía Macroscópica Humana” que cuenta con el aval del Comité institucional de Revisión de Ética Humana de la Universidad del Valle, con código 057-021, bajo la Comisión de estudios No. 096 del 04 de julio de 2019 de la Facultad de Salud. A partir de imágenes en diferentes planos anatómicos del cráneo humano se diseñó un armazón con la estructura característica del mismo. Para dar volumen y forma a cada estructura ósea se utilizó porcelanicrón, y los accidentes óseos de los huesos de la base del cráneo y forámenes fueron moldeados a mano. Finalmente, se construyó el VII par craneal, representando los impulsos nerviosos por medio de pulsos eléctricos con una secuencia led.
Se logró realizar una modelo 4D del cráneo que incluye el recorrido nervioso derecho del VII par craneal desde su origen hasta el lugar de inervación. Así mismo, se observa la simulación del estímulo nervioso de las diferentes fibras nerviosas.
El aprendizaje de los pares craneales desde la creación de un modelo anatómico proporciona conocimiento anatómico integrado, ya que facilita la ubicación y dimensión de estructuras difícilmente apreciables en piezas reales. Esta estrategia también brinda al estudiante una representación mental de las vías nerviosas y cómo estas se pueden ver afectadas en ciertas condiciones patológicas o traumáticas, lo que contribuirá de forma significativa a la futura práctica clínica.

Indirect Evidences of Wildlife Activities in Shoals of Western Ghats, a Biodiversity HotspotsThe presence of wildlife fauna and its activities were ascertained with the density of the scat, dung and other markings or droppings of the wildlife abode therein. Attempt was made to find out spatial differences in the activities of the wildlife populations and to comment on the abundance of different preys and predators within shola forests of Western Ghat hill forests, a Biodiversity hotspot in India. An indirect sampling method, Transect Count Method, was employed to count dung/pellet group/scat and other markings in that area. Pachyderms were found to be mostly dominant in Varagaliar and Punnumala shola patches while scats of all the three important predators, viz., tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), Indian wild dog (Cuon alpinus) and leopard (Panthera pardus) were encountered only in Varagaliar shola. Greater abundance was recorded from Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary than Silent Valley National Park may be because of the restriction of animal movements in the former due to topographical barriers and its existence as isolated shola patches that led to a greater concentration of wild fauna in a relatively segregated forest cover.

RESUMO A espécie Solidago chilensis Meyen, Asteraceae é conhecida como erva-lanceta ou arnica-brasileira, sendo utilizada popularmente como antimicrobiana e para o tratamento de inflamações tópicas. No entanto, estudos fitoquímicos e farmacológicos para as partes aéreas são escassos. Neste trabalho, realizou-se a determinação de flavonoides por espectrofotometria de UV/Vis, prospecção fitoquímica da fração acetato de etila visando o isolamento do constituinte químico majoritário e validação analítica por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência (CLAE). O teor de flavonoides totais foi de 5,42%, representados como hiperosídeo. O fracionamento químico utilizando métodos cromatográficos (cromatografia líquida em coluna gel de sílica; CHCl3:EtOH; 8:2 v/v) e espectroscópicos (1H RMN,13C RMN e ESI-MS) revelou o isolamento de quercetina-3-O-α-L-ramnosídeo(quercitrina). A sensibilidade e a linearidade (r = 0,999) da validação analítica, utilizando a quercitrina isolada do extrato hidroalcoólico da planta, revelaram um rendimento de 5,29% do analito em relação à droga vegetal. Precisão, recuperação e robustez, além dos valores estabelecidos para os limites de detecção (LOD) e de quantificação (LOQ), poderão ser utilizados como parâmetros de qualidade para extratos à base de S. chilensis.

Walter S. Taylor (1931––2001), a home-grown hero of Finger Lakes viticulture, pioneered the movement toward independent estate wine production in upstate New York. Although his family name was a prominent one in the wine industry of the 1960s, Walter's disputes with family business practices led him to set up his own winery, Bully Hill vineyards, by 1970. There, he committed himself to using hybrid-variety, locally grown grapes to produce bona fide New York State wine. His was the first independent winery to be established after Prohibition, and he advocated for legislation which allowed other farmers to bottle and sell their own vintages. Walter trumpeted an irreverent approach to the old winemaking establishment, particularly after his family's business brought legal action against him for using the Taylor name on his own bottle labels. To protest the oppression of the Taylor company corporation, Walter staged parades, promoted his own renegade image and that of Guilt Free (his pet goat), and insisted that wine must be produced with care and drunk with cheer. Walter's own artwork decorates Bully Hill bottles, and the winery shares his full-bodied spirit with thousands of visitors to this day.

In September 2020, a University of Northampton (UK) team, led by Professor Parkes and Dr Mary O’Malley (now at the University of Worcester) were successful in securing funding from the Wellcome Trust Public Engagement Fund. The central aims of the DEfIN-YD project were to share knowledge about young onset dementia (YOD) research; create a younger onset dementia public and patient involvement (PPI) network; develop ideas for future YOD research; and provide a reference group to support researchers developing YOD projects. Currently, 21 people have been recruited into one of three regional groups. Prof Parkes leads the Midlands group, Dr Cole from University of West London hosts the Southern group, and Bradford University supports the Northern group. The members were recruited via the Young Dementia Network (YDN), Dementia UK, Alzheimer’s Society, the DEEP network, and local NHS Services. They come from urban and rural settings across the UK. Some attend the meetings alone and others are supported by advocates (usually carers). They have a variety of diagnoses and are at different stages of their dementia journey. The groups include members from different cultural backgrounds. They are able to share their personal experiences and are keen to do so in order to improve the care experiences of others. Due to COVID, members effectively completed all 5 regional workshop sessions from August 2021-March 2022 via Microsoft Teams. They are now fully prepared to engage in designing and developing YOD research projects. The top priority they identified for future research was for professionals to be more specifically trained in YOD. Once the workshops were designed and delivered, the first phase of the project was complete. Phase 2 (from April-October 2022) has sort to capture the experiences of participating in the workshops from the group members, facilitators, and project team; as well as developing a sustainable model for the future of the regional groups. The project comes to an end on the 31st March 2023.In this presentation we would like to explore the following objectives: Why we need specific YOD PPI research groups.How we run the workshops and meetings.How we hope to sustain the groups.
