Resumen
Indigenous orality represents an important part in the everyday life of the Ameriandian communities from the Ecuadorian Amazon region. It is important to see a symptom of serious threats in this phenomenon that can lead to the extinction of these indigenous languages. According to recent research, several languages spoken in the communities of Ecuador are considered to be in danger of extinction. Effective prevention can be promoted by academic projects focused on encouraging indigenous speakers of all generations to use the language regularly in ordinary situations. In this way, indigenous languages can become the language of instruction used in official educational institutions.

Resumen
The purpose of this work is to analyse the work of Mzwakhe Mbuli. He has been playing a significant part in South Africa’s struggle against apartheid and social issues, employing the power of his words. This dissertation will begin with an introductory chapter on the historical context concerning the years in which Mzwakhe has lived and that have influenced his career, highlighting the situation brought into being by apartheid until the 1990s and the first free South African elections. A brief look at the present days will also be provided. Being Mzwakhe Mbuli an oral poet, the second chapter will cover an overview on the tradition of oral poetry, both in South Africa and in other African countries, considering, furthermore, the cases in which oral poetry is accompanied by music. A third chapter will present Mzwakhe Mbuli’s biography, firstly focusing on the most significant historical events that have characterised his life, and secondly, taking into consideration the different literary and musical traditions that might have influenced the poet’s work. Specific examples of the poetic and performative activity of Mzwakhe will be more thoroughly analysed in the fourth chapter. Here, the focus will be given on how Mzwakhe brings forth the oral tradition in South Africa, providing a chronological outline and evolution of his work. Significant poems, lyrics, and performances will be analysed as milestones of his production, centring on both formal and thematic aspects, such as rhetorical strategies and social impact. This dissertation will end with a chapter that will draw some considerations about what Mzwakhe Mbuli has been meaning for the world of poetry and oral performance and for the social and cultural advancement of South Africa.

Brinton, Ruth M. "The southern French child at play : aspects of his traditional oral lore". Thesis, University of Bath, 1985. https://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.370457.

Texto completo
Resumen
This study concerns an investigation of the oral traditions of the contemporary child in southern France, and sets out to disprove the widely held belief that such traditions have disappeared as a result of the levelling influence of the media upon today's children. Attention is focused upon the child of eight to ten years of age, investigating that part of his world normally ignored, even denied, by adults: that is, those games and rhymes passed down by word of mouth from the older child to the younger, generation after generation. Unlike any previous detailed study of juvenile lore in twentieth-century France, this thesis considers the entire spectrum of traditional play in the context of the 'child-to-child complex'. The study has involved extensive fieldwork in the Midi, recording and transcribing the language and lore of children at play. This practical work has been backed up by detailed historical research into the documentation of child lore in France from the thirteenth century until the present day. Account has been taken both of literary references to children's games, which provide important data for historical and comparative analysis, and of the various manuals and collections of games which exist in France. From the vast range of materials amassed, common characteristics and clear divisions between the various play activities recorded have been identified, enabling a detailed classification to be made of the data collected. Such a classification has not hitherto been achieved in France. Through an investigation of the closed and mysterious world of the playground, a world where children gather among themselves, this study aims to present an autonomous society, regulated by the jurisdictions of its own code, where rhymes and games are communicated from one child to the next, away from the restrictive eye of the adult.

Thesis, The University of Arizona, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/625695.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis looks at the impact of migration and place on the traditional healing knowledge and practices of a Mexican immigrant mother from Guanajuato, Mexico: Sofia Perez. Through the use of oral history methodology and the application of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Wisdom (TEKW) model and the Social Ecological Model (SEM) to analyze the narratives, this study looks at the origin of Sofia's healing knowledge and practices and at how she has managed to keep these traditions alive despite migrating to the United States and living in a society that may not believe in the efficacy of these healing traditions. The application of the Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Wisdom (TEKW) model provided insight into the healing traditions of Sofia's home community and the ways in which these were learned, practiced, and preserved and proved useful in looking at how this was done by Sofia before and after migrating. Next, the Social Ecological Model (SEM) proved useful in looking at how place and its various social, cultural, and ecological aspects have influenced Sofia's use of traditional medicine since she migrated. Overall, Sofia's knowledge and practices have been impacted by migration and place; however, she continues to practice these traditions as best as she can.

Abdul, Hadi Nurul Ikhlas. "Mothers, lovers others : an evolutionary analysis of womanhood in Western Malayo-Polynesian oral traditions". Thesis, University of Leeds, 2016. http://etheses.whiterose.ac.uk/16876/.

Texto completo
Resumen
This thesis is the first to study female characters from Western Malayo-Polynesian oral tradition. It is also the first to apply an evolutionary literary analysis to these stories. The aim was to analyse the life history cycle of women as portrayed in oral stories from the Western Malayo-Polynesian language group, which includes languages spoken across southern Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, the island states of western Micronesia, and Madagascar. The general principle behind evolutionary literary theory is that any knowledge (including stories) generated by the mind is a biological phenomenon and worthy of scientific study. This tenet is then compounded with an evolutionary understanding of life whereby all animals, including humans, are driven to ensure somatic success through the preservation of life, and reproductive success through the proliferation of genes. It is argued that oral stories contain implicit evolutionary ‘lessons’ that may assist humans in obtaining somatic and reproductive success. The most recurring evolutionary theme in female-led Western Malayo-Polynesian oral stories revolves around reproductive success, with approximately 90% of stories in this thesis focusing either on family life or the search for a partner. In the section ‘Tales of Family Life’, stories portray the complexity of family dynamics, showing how family members must sacrifice their selfish interests for the sake of their kin in order to maximize the propagation of their genes. In ‘Tales of Searching for a Partner’, heroines take part in complex mate attraction and retention strategies, showing that the search for a ‘Happily Ever After’ (or evolutionary fitness) is not always a straightforward journey. Unsurprisingly, themes without direct correlations with evolutionary fitness form only 10% of the entire corpus. ‘Tales Beyond Family and Partners’ attempt to explore stories of evolutionary anomalies through the phenomenon of childfree and heroic women. Evolutionary studies, however, have yet to provide a satisfactory theory on women whose behaviour seems to hold little or no reproductive advantages, and analysis of these types of stories would benefit from further research. As a multidisciplinary study, this thesis is able to impact future research in three different ways. Firstly, it is hoped that it will bring attention to and increase knowledge of the lesser known and under-studied Western Malayo-Polynesian oral traditions. Secondly, the thesis can also serve as a model for the application of evolutionary theory to the folkloric study of oral stories. Finally, it shows the potential of applying evolutionary literary theory to non-Western cultures. It is hoped that future research will be able to expand the findings of this thesis either through larger or more concentrated pools of data, with the aim of emphasizing the universal drives that underlie our common humanity.

En Ethnology Symposium "Ethnic traditions and processes", Edition II. Institute of Cultural Heritage, Republic of Moldova, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.52603/9789975333788.16.

Texto completo
Resumen
The article presents some research approaches to the fairy-tale folklore of Bulgarians from the Republic of Moldova. According to the author, the fairy-tales texts of Bulgarians from the Republic of Moldova, their semantic, symbolic, and structural features should be researched as a local (regional) variant of Bulgarian folklore. Identification of ethnocultural markers in the fairy-tales of local Bulgarians on some different levels (such as on the subject, ethno-social and spiritual (church-religious) level) will allow to identify some peculiarities in the adaptation process of Bulgarians that migrated to a new ethnocultural zone, as well as to identify the level of preservation of basic ethnic mentality under the conditions of new “mental environment”. Thus, the study of regional ethnic culture is an interdisciplinary research, which allows discovering how localization in time and space affects ethnic culture, in general, and oral folk art, in particular.

Resumen
Folklore encompasses the knowledge, experiences, and creative thinking passed down from ancestors through generations via word of mouth. It serves as a means of preserving cultural traditions and expressing socio-cultural aspects of a society. One such folklore narrative deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of Sri Lanka is the story of Kuweni. Kuweni, the unacknowledged queen who aided King Vijaya in his conquest of the island, holds historical, literal, geographical, and cultural significance. This narrative highlights the anthropological value inherent in folk traditions. Moreover, the story has been documented in ancient literature, lending factual credibility to the character of Kuweni. It has also served as an inspiration for dramatic performances, films, songs, and paintings exploring Kuweni's emotional dilemmas. However, there is a lack of comprehensive academic study on transforming folklore characters into creative disciplines. This research employs a qualitative approach to study the literature and folk narratives surrounding Kuweni, utilizing folklore categorization techniques such as the scientific and social scientific approaches with thematic analysis to identify the main themes. As a result of that, Thematic Metaphorical Approach (TMA) helps to identify and explore the central themes associated with folklore characters. This conceptual framework is applicable to in-depth exploration of any significant folklore character, providing a solid foundation for creative industries to delve into their themes without encountering pitfalls.

Resumen
Within the Croatian intangible cultural heritage, traditions and customs, due to their specific functions, occupy a unique place in tourism. The oral transmission of tradition, the culture of memory is manifested in the contemporary application of traditional customs as the most vital model of duration, regardless of the new way of life in which traditional customs have lost their significance. This paper aims to highlight women’s role in tradition’s transference – a practice that belongs to women within the framework of intangible cultural heritage, but also female creativity which is closely related to sustainable tourism. Protected cultural goods of intangible heritage represent forms of cultural expression of particular importance in a certain area. Their historical roots testify to their exceptional value from a historical, artistic, ethnographic, sociological, anthropological, linguistic, or literary point of view. Intangible cultural heritage, which is passed down from generation to generation, provides a sense of identity and continuity and thus promotes respect for cultural diversity and human creativity. The paper aims to point out the role of intangible cultural heritage as a generator of destination development and the active role of women.

Resumen
The paper examines the perception of time in the Old Icelandic ‘chronicle’ Hungrvaka ‘Awakening hunger’ (13th century) in the aspect of the correlation of local and foreign traditions of time counting and time markers. The paper discusses the specifics of usage of natural temporal names (winter and summer, day and night, etc.), indications of the time of power and death of foreign and Icelandic leaders, the role of genealogies and chronology ‘from the Birth of Christ’, as well as that of church holidays. The author comes to the conclusion about the combination in this work of the old local tradition, dating back to oral literary activity, and a new foreign tradition that came from Latin sources along with the introduction of Christianity. It is argued that the temporal characteristic of Hungrvaka is not reducible to a chronical list of years. A significant place is occupied in it by the ‘natural’ (often specific) and ‘genealogical’ perception of time (characteristic of the tribal community, which did not know the state and royal power), which brings this work closer to the family sagas. At the same time, the correlation of the time of power and death of the Icelandic bishops (and also that of the secular leaders of Iceland) with the time of the power and death of foreign leaders, as well as with the chronology ‘from the Birth of Christ’ serves to elevate Icelanders and Iceland in a world-historical perspective.

Texto completo
Resumen
North-eastern Neo-Aramaic (also known as NENA) languages and literature are a prosperous and encouraging field of research. They abound with oral traditions and expressions that incorporate various spoken forms including everyday language, tales, songs, chants, prayers, proverbs, and more. These are used to transfer culture, knowledge, and community values. Some types of oral forms are idioms and fixed expressions. Idioms are extremely problematic to translate for a number of reasons, including: cultural and linguistic differences between languages; their specific connection to cultural practices and interpretations, and the difficulty of transferring the same meanings and connotations into another language with accuracy. This paper explores how to define and classify idioms, and suggests specific strategies and procedures to translate idioms from the NENA dialect Bartella (a local Aramaic dialect in Nineveh Plain) into English – as proposed by Baker (1992: 63–78). Data collection is based on 15 idioms in Bartella dialect taken from the heritage play Khlola d baretle teqta (Wedding in the old Bartella). The findings revealed that only three strategies are helpful to transfer particular cultural conceptualisations: using an idiom of similar meaning and form; using an idiom of similar meaning but different form, and translation by paraphrasing. Based on the findings, the author provides individuals and institutions with suggestions on how to save endangered languages and dialects, particularly with regard to the religious minorities’ heritage. Key among these recommendations is encouraging researchers and scholars to direct translation projects and activities towards preserving minority languages with their oral heritage and cultural expressions, which are susceptible to extinction.

Resumen
The survival of Pacific societies is partly attributed to the ability of Pacific ancestors to transmit stories from generation to generation through myths and legends, stories of creation, songs, oratory, art and natural environments. This paper explores the importance of the practice of Talanoa as a concept and a research tool in promoting Pacific knowledge systems and practices in tertiary education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Talanoa was utilised as the primary research method to gather narratives about how Talanoa is incorporated, from Pacific staff in various roles in tertiary education in a culturally safe and relevant way, both face to face and online. The author also conducted an online survey to gather information about how or whether Talanoa is used widely by Pacific staff in an Aotearoa New Zealand tertiary institution, Unitec New Zealand Limited, before it transitioned fully into the national institute, Te Pūkenga. The research analysed existing literature to ensure that it adds value to this repertoire of knowledge and research. The significance of recognising and acknowledging Pacific oral traditions will add value to and enhance Pacific ways of knowing and engagement in any context. The outcome of this study supports the inclusion of Talanoa as a tool that can be used successfully in tertiary education.

Resumen
Review question / Objective: The type of study was clinical randomized controlled trial (RCT). The object of study is the patients with HFMD. There is no limit to gender and race. In the case of clear diagnosis standard, curative effect judgment standard and consistent baseline treatment, the experimental group was treated with pure oral liquid of traditional Chinese medicine(A: Fuganlin oral liquid, B: huangzhihua oral liquid, C: Lanqin oral liquid, D: antiviral oral liquid, E: Huangqin oral liquid, F: Pudilan oral liquid, G: Shuanghuanglian oral liquid.)and the control group was treated with ribavirin or any oral liquid of traditional Chinese medicine. The data were extracted by two researchers independently, cross checked and reviewed according to the pre-determined tables. The data extraction content is (1) Basic information (including the first author, published journal and year, research topic). (2) Relevant information (including number of cases, total number of cases, gender, age, intervention measures, course of treatment of the experimental group and the control group in the literature). (3) Design type and quality evaluation information of the included literature. (4) Outcome measures (effective rate, healing time of oral ulcer, regression time of hand and foot rash, regression time of fever, adverse reactions.). The seven traditional Chinese medicine oral liquids are comparable in clinical practice, but their actual clinical efficacy is lack of evidence-based basis. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to use the network meta-analysis method to integrate the clinical relevant evidence of direct and indirect comparative relationship, to make quantitative comprehensive statistical analysis and sequencing of different oral liquid of traditional Chinese medicine with the same evidence body for the treatment of the disease, and then to explore the advantages and disadvantages of the efficacy and safety of different oral liquid of traditional Chinese medicine to get the best treatment plan, so as to provide reference value and evidence-based medicine evidence for clinical optimization of drug selection. Condition being studied: Hand foot mouth disease (HFMD) is a common infectious disease in pediatrics caused by a variety of enteroviruses. Its clinical manifestations are mainly characterized by persistent fever, hand foot rash, oral herpes, ulcers, etc. Because it is often found in preschool children, its immune system development is not perfect, so it is very vulnerable to infection by pathogens and epidemic diseases, resulting in rapid progress of the disease. A few patients will also have neurogenic pulmonary edema Meningitis, myocarditis and other serious complications even lead to death, so effectively improve the cure rate, shorten the course of disease, prevent the deterioration of the disease as the focus of the study. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicine has played an important role in the research of antiviral treatment. Many clinical practices have confirmed that oral liquid of traditional Chinese medicine can effectively play the role of antiviral and improve the body's immunity.
