Resumen
Opportunities are a core construct in the field of entrepreneurship. Despite recent advances suggesting the separation of ideas from opportunities, the field still suffers from conceptual deficiencies. This article builds on this distinction and leverages insights from creativity and innovation management literature to propose a framework that allows tracing the evolution of a venture from first insight to exploitation. It discusses real–time/longitudinal and retrospective measurement techniques from the fields of entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation management to empirically capture the framework. Several research questions for future studies are provided, concluding with a discussion of implications for research and practice.

Resumen
Within the context of opportunity development as a learning process, this paper explores the intentionality that drives the early stages of this process, from the initial occurrence of an idea to its further exploration and elaboration by a potential entrepreneur. It establishes that the specific situations that induce opportunity insights also affect the roles that individuals’ prior knowledge and learning approaches play for the formation of opportunity intentions. The likelihood of acting on their initial opportunity insights depends not only on how much prior knowledge individuals have of the opportunity domain, but also on whether their learning style matches the situation at hand. The results from an experiment show that domain–specific knowledge enables action when there is a person–situation match and impedes it when such a match is lacking.

Resumen
Gerrymandering is known best as a tool to manipulate boundaries for voting districts, but school districts have long used the same tool to manipulate school boundaries. The author used geospatial techniques — mapping various kinds of demographic data onto school boundaries — to examine public school attendance zones and their effect on students. The author’s research yielded several key insights. Like congressional districts, school zones are highly gerrymandered; the gerrymandering of school zones serves to worsen the already severe racial segregation of public schools, but affirmative gerrymandering can effectively increase diversity and reduce racial segregation.

Resumen
Abstract Follicular lymphoma (FL) is a heterogeneous disease, both clinically and biologically. The biological behavior and development of FL is a culmination of complex multistep processes underpinned by genetic and nongenetic determinants. Epigenetic deregulation through recurrent genetic alterations is now a recognized major biological hallmark of FL, alongside the t(14;18) translocation. In parallel, there is a strong interplay between the lymphoma B cells and the immune microenvironment, with the microenvironment serving as a critical enabler by creating a tumor-supportive niche and modulating the immune response to favor survival of the malignant B cells. A further layer of complexity arises from the biological heterogeneity that occurs between patients and within an individual, both over the course of the disease and at different sites of disease involvement. Altogether, taking the first steps to bridge the understanding of these various biological components and how to evaluate these clinically may aid and inform future strategies, including logical therapeutic interventions, risk stratification, therapy selection, and disease monitoring.

Mirror-image symmetry in limbs is normal in the vertebrate phenotype. Genetic and epigenetic factors regulate the differentiation, patterning, and development of the embryo and foetus. Growth after birth is influenced by hormonal and environmental factors such as nutrition. Limb size asymmetry in a child should trigger a search for associated pathology that may include neoplastic conditions, sequelae of injury, vascular, and neurogenic factors. Macrodactyly, part of the PIK3CA Related Overgrowth Spectrum, offers the physician a clinical challenge, while at the same time an opportunity to study morphology, histology, and more recently the molecular mechanisms from which the conditions arise. Collaboration between clinicians and basic scientists offers an exceptional opportunity for coordinated study and the potential for improved patient outcomes.

Resumen
Opportunity is a central concept within the entrepreneurship field, and there is now a critical mass of literature centered on the concept. The authors seek to make two main contributions to this literature. First, we provide a detailed review of research on the opportunity concept and the processes surrounding it, highlighting extant insights and future needs. Second, we describe ways that the entrepreneurship literature’s insights about the opportunity concept could be enhanced by research in other fields, both inside and outside business-related domains.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to describe how discovery and creation opportunities transition from one to the other and thereby clarify the relationship between opportunity types. This theoretical work will offer insight for studying opportunities and clarify the different practical implications of different opportunity types. Design/methodology/approach – To further the understanding of opportunity types, the paper employs Dubin’s (1978) theory building methodology focussing specifically on the concepts of system states. Approaching opportunity types as system states clarifies the relationship between discovery and creation opportunities. Findings – This research argues that opportunities transition from creation opportunities to discovery opportunities. Furthermore, understanding the opportunity state can clarify the practical implications for entrepreneurs. In particular, entrepreneurs in discovery states employ different processes regarding human resources, strategy, financing, planning, leadership, and potential competitive advantage than entrepreneurs pursuing creation states. Originality/value – This paper offers value to researchers by clarifying the differences between opportunity types. To date, there has been little to no investigation into how opportunity types change from one type to another. This research offers to clarify the debate about the existence of different opportunity types and move the discussion forward theoretically. Additionally, this manuscript offers practical insights for entrepreneurs pursuing different types of opportunities.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to provide insights toward the potential of lean healthcare organization for environment sustainability and develop propositions for future studies.Design/methodology/approachThis is a conceptual paper to study the inbuilt capacity of lean healthcare organization to mitigate environmental footprint. As a result, lean compatibility with environmental sustainability (ES) has been explored in areas like manufacturing, supply chain, aviation, construction, etc. The lean philosophy, lean culture and lean tools were analyzed to identify their contribution to ES in the context of healthcare organizations.FindingsBased on the analysis of lean philosophy, culture and tool, this paper theorizes that lean healthcare organizations have huge potential to mitigate environmental footprints. Lean healthcare organizations need not to do any extra effort for ES albeit it is inbuilt in it. Lean philosophy provides a vision to the healthcare organization for ES whereas lean culture bestow healthcare with an epistemology for the same.Research limitations/implicationsThis paper provides insight that ES is embedded in lean healthcare organizations. Lean healthcare organizational culture is ideal for application for constructivism theory where employees construct a new knowledge from their experiences to minimize the waste that eventually help in ES.Originality/valueMajor contributions of the study include a new approach for mitigating the environmental footprints by adopting lean in healthcare organization.

AbstractX-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) is a technique which can obtain three-dimensional images of a sample, including its internal structure, without the need for destructive sectioning. Here, we review the capability of the technique and examine its potential to provide novel insights into the lifestyles of parasites embedded within host tissue. The current capabilities and limitations of the technology in producing contrast in soft tissues are discussed, as well as the potential solutions for parasitologists looking to apply this technique. We present example images of the mouse whipworm Trichuris muris and discuss the application of μCT to provide unique insights into parasite behaviour and pathology, which are inaccessible to other imaging modalities.

Resumen
Abstract This article addresses a number of issues regarding impairment evaluation and the use of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides). First, impairment is not synonymous with disability, and, as noted in the sixth and previous editions of the AMA Guides, no direct correlation exists between impairment and work restrictions or loss of earning capacity. An impairment rating does not directly equate to a permanent disability rating and does not solely determine compensation. The AMA Guides creates the opportunity for consistency of impairment ratings among physicians, but impairment ratings must be performed according to standards defined in the AMA Guides. Impairment rating values and methods in the AMA Guides can change between editions based on medical reasons. It is too early to determine the effects of changes in the sixth edition of the AMA Guides pending the accumulation of adequate experience using this edition, until impairment ratings associated with specific diagnoses can be compared, and until an adequate sample of cases can be evaluated and compared using the fifth and sixth editions. Use of the sixth edition may result in some lower impairment ratings, but this edition also expands the number of ratable conditions compared to previous versions. Finally, impairment determination is a medical issue, and more reasonable approaches should be developed to translate impairment into financial rewards.

Resumen
The Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, as reflected in ethnohistoric documents underwriting the beliefs and practices of contemporary neo-kabbalists, practitioners of shamanic Judaism, Jewitchery, and other para-Judaic spiritualities (including Hermetic Qabalah and Christian Cabala) illustrate a cosmological theory of “kabbalistic perspectivism” analogous to the Amazonian perspectivism reported by Eduardo Viveiros de Castro (1998). Consideration of kabbalistic perspectivism provides Messianic Jewish, gentile Christian, and other religiously committed anthropologists opportunity for practicing comparative theology. It also may serve as a model for developing “methodological possibilianism,” an ontologically-oriented complement to the epistemological model of critical realism popularized by Christian anthropologists Paul Hiebert and Charles Kraft.

Resumen
To study the decision bias in newsvendor behavior, this paper introduces an opportunity loss minimization criterion into the newsvendor model with backordering. We apply the Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) measure to hedge against the potential risks from newsvendor’s order decision. We obtain the optimal order quantities for a newsvendor to minimize the expected opportunity loss and CVaR of opportunity loss. It is proven that the newsvendor’s optimal order quantity is related to the density function of market demand when the newsvendor exhibits risk-averse preference, which is inconsistent with the results in Schweitzer and Cachon (2000). The numerical example shows that the optimal order quantity that minimizes CVaR of opportunity loss is bigger than expected profit maximization (EPM) order quantity for high-profit products and smaller than EPM order quantity for low-profit products, which is different from the experimental results in Schweitzer and Cachon (2000). A sensitivity analysis of changing the operation parameters of the two optimal order quantities is discussed. Our results confirm that high return implies high risk, while low risk comes with low return. Based on the results, some managerial insights are suggested for the risk management of the newsvendor model with backordering.

Texto completo
Resumen
Sialylation is an enzymatic process that covalently attaches sialic acids to glycoproteins and glycolipids and terminates them by creating sialic acid-containing glycans (sialoglycans). Sialoglycans, usually located in the outmost layers of cells, play crucial biological roles, notably in tumor transformation, growth, metastasis, and immune evasion. Thus, a deeper comprehension of sialylation in cancer will help to facilitate the development of innovative cancer therapies. Cancer sialylation-related articles have consistently increased over the last four years. The primary subjects of these studies are sialylation, cancer, immunotherapy, and metastasis. Tumor cells activate endothelial cells and metastasize to distant organs in part by the interactions of abnormally sialylated integrins with selectins. Furthermore, cancer sialylation masks tumor antigenic epitopes and induces an immunosuppressive environment, allowing cancer cells to escape immune monitoring. Cytotoxic T lymphocytes develop different recognition epitopes for glycosylated and nonglycosylated peptides. Therefore, targeting tumor-derived sialoglycans is a promising approach to cancer treatments for limiting the dissemination of tumor cells, revealing immunogenic tumor antigens, and boosting anti-cancer immunity. Exploring the exact tumor sialoglycans may facilitate the identification of new glycan targets, paving the way for the development of customized cancer treatments.

Resumen
Approximately 1 in 9 teenagers and young adults aged 16-24 in the United States is currently disconnected from school and employment. These disconnected young people (ie, opportunity youth) are not only at high risk for long-term emotional, behavioral, and health problems, but they also represent a loss of human capital, with high social and economic costs. In this article, we offer a public health perspective on opportunity youth by describing their distribution in the population and consequences of their disconnection; proposing a conceptual model of the issue based on epidemiological principles, life course development concepts, and ecological theory; and recommending multisector strategies for preventing disconnection of young people and reengaging opportunity youth. A public health approach to the problem of opportunity youth would involve developing and investing in youth monitoring data systems that can be coordinated across multiple sectors, consolidating both the delivery and funding of services for opportunity youth, developing policies and programs that encourage engagement of young people, and fostering systematic approaches to the testing and scaling up of preventive and reengagement interventions.

Resumen
Mobile shopping is the new attraction among the customers and retailers. High tech life, smart connectivity, advanced mobile phones and busy lifestyles have paved the way of mobile shopping adoption. Mobile commerce is progression of e-commerce and mobile shopping is considered as a subset of m-commerce. Mobile shopping has created opportunity for retailers as well customers and has developed new means of marketing. In a past few decades’ mobile commerce industry has seen tremendous growth and mobile shopping is most desired applications of m-commerce. Though there is huge potential of mobile shopping but yet a long way is to be travelled in the emerging economies. Mobile shopping is at infancy stage in many developing nations and hence researchers can contribute more towards the literature of mobile shopping. This paper is an attempt to throw some light on mobile shopping adoption studies.

Resumen
This article highlights an experience of “failing” within a qualitative research study. Specifically, the authors speak to the failure of recruiting participants in conducting synchronous video and telephone interviews. Drawing from literature in business and examples from research method texts to demonstrate the cross-disciplinary concerns and insights of failure within one’s work, the authors discuss how failure can be reframed as opportunity through the lens of “rigid flexibility” and the innovative steps they implemented. Providing additional insight into the process of framing and reframing failure in research, the authors integrate poetic inquiry as a tool for reflection to highlight their process and suggested steps for new researchers. The authors argue that researchers can approach studies with the idea that failures in the planning and/or execution can lead to opportunities and new insights.

Resumen
To investigate the boundaries between the different phases of opportunity processes, we adopted an empirical phenomenology and used documentary videography with an editing method as well as a critical incidents and events technique. The analysis of cases led to three kinds of opportunity process approaches. Each had a different rationale for the actions taken and set of moderators, which are represented by the different interplay of phases. The interplay between alertness, insights and creativity was characteristic to all of the approaches, although each of these concepts present different form in the identified three approaches.

Resumen
Using insights from Peter Drucker’s Theory of the Business framework, the authors show that global challenges such as pandemics and climate change are contributing to a critical misalignment between businesses and their increasingly complex external environments, leading to a growing malaise in many organizations. Central to this misalignment are seven legacy assumptions which no longer serve businesses effectively. Seven new assumptions better reflect today’s external environment and point to how businesses can thrive (“Do Well”) by making a positive difference in society (“Do Good.”) The authors propose a set of change management methods and tools along with specific steps that leaders and organizations can take to transform their businesses into what they define as Positive Institutions.

Resumen
_ This article, written by JPT Technology Editor Chris Carpenter, contains highlights of paper SPE 207946, “Intelligent Waterflood Optimization Advisory System: A Step Change Toward Digital Transformation,” by Samat Ramatullayev, SPE, Muzahidin M. Salim, and Muhammad Ibrahim, SPE, Schlumberger, et al. The paper has not been peer reviewed. _ In the complete paper, the authors discuss the development of an end-to-end waterflooding-optimization system that provides monitoring and surveillance dashboards with artificial-intelligence (AI) and machine-learning (ML) components to generate and assess insights into operational efficiency in an automated manner. The system allows for fast screening of waterflooding performance at diverse levels, enabling prompt identification of opportunities for immediate uptake into an opportunity-management process and for evaluation in an AI-driven production forecast or a reservoir simulator. Monitoring and Surveillance Dashboards The system consists of a series of dashboards covering both subsurface and surface elements. The production data foundation, the data-management platform, can connect to multiple data sources, simplifying data-preparation and -ingestion processes. The intelligent monitoring and surveillance section consists of monitoring and surveillance dashboards focusing on six key indicators: production scorecard, injection scorecard, injection efficiency, voidage replacement ratio, injection-water quality, advanced analytics, and opportunity management. The system consists of different modules such as Field, Reservoir, Sector, Pattern, Offset Wells, Surface Facilities, and Advanced Analytics. Although each module contains some automation aspects, the Advanced Analytics module houses most of the automation and ML. The modules are detailed in the complete paper.

Resumen
Purpose This paper aims to integrate existing thinking and provide new insights into the complexity of behaviours to improve understanding of the nature of these behaviours. This paper expands social marketing theory by introducing the Motivation–Opportunity–Ability–Behaviour (MOAB) framework to assist in understanding the nature of social marketing behaviours by extending the Motivation–Opportunity–Ability (MOA) framework. Design/methodology/approach This is a conceptual paper that proposes the MOAB framework to understand the complexity of behaviours. Findings This new tool will provide social marketers with an improved understanding of the differences between behaviours targeted by social marketers. Specifically, it provides a definition and application of complexity in social marketing that will facilitate the development of consumer insights and subsequent social marketing programs that more sufficiently account for the complexity of target behaviours. Research limitations/implications This proposed MOAB framework offers a foundation for future research to expand upon. Further research is recommended to empirically test the proposed framework. Originality/value This paper seeks to advance the theoretical base of social marketing by providing new insights to understand the nature of the behaviour in social marketing to assist social marketers to move beyond attempts to treat all behaviours as if they are the same.

This article helps develop the creativity perspective within entrepreneurship in two ways. First, it elaborates on the nature of opportunity as a creative product. Rather than viewing opportunities as single insights, it suggests that they are emerging through the continuous shaping and development of (raw) ideas that are acted upon. Second, rather than attributing them to a particular individual, it highlights the contextual and social influences that affect the generation and shaping of ideas. This helps move entrepreneurship research beyond the single–person, single–insight attribution that currently permeates it.

Resumen
The aim of this study was to use data available to a Canadian health professions regulator (Ontario College of Pharmacists) to identify areas of opportunity where practitioners (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) could benefit from further development, in order to optimize practice and improve the quality of care. Four de-identified datasets were used to extract themes from areas of jurisprudence (1969 exam records), member practice assessments (2610 records), pharmacy assessments (2024 records) and conduct (640 case records). Outcome measures included performance in examinations and assessments and competency gaps identified in conduct investigations. Thematic analysis of outcomes was done in two stages. First, the four outcomes were derived independently for each dataset. Second, the top five issues were extracted for each dataset. It was hypothesized that common themes in competency gaps across all four datasets would emerge from this top five selection. We found three main common areas of opportunity where practitioners could benefit from further development: patient assessment and safety; documentation; and ethical, legal and professional responsibilities.

Resumen
We highlight the important role that time plays in conceptualizations of opportunity in entrepreneurship research. Through two longitudinal case studies, we introduce a more dynamic understanding of opportunities than portrayed by current theorizing, which tends to emphasize “opportunity discovery.” By adopting a dynamic temporal perspective, we integrate Kirzner’s and Mises’s approaches to entrepreneurial action to generate novel insights about how entrepreneurs view opportunities as initial opportunity beliefs, how these beliefs change over time, and how these changes help inform scholarly research of opportunities. We argue that taking the role of time into consideration opens up new questions related to opportunity and the dynamics of its development.

Resumen
AbstractOur research on non-religion supports the proposed shift toward more interactive models of prejudice. Being nonreligious is easily hideable and, increasingly, of low salience, leading to experiences not easily understood via traditional or contemporary frameworks for studying prejudice and prejudice reduction. This context affords new opportunity to observe reverse forms of interactive prejudice, which can interfere with prejudice reduction.
